  • Summary: A mission gone bad, or a an overly excited Adventurer? Whatever the case may be: in the attempt to free a Phoenix from demonic capture, one of their own was taken. Now, Adventurers move upon the abandoned mines at the edge of Alexandros and the Myrrish Kingdoms in order to free not one, but two beings of good.

Deep within the mines, beyond the darkness of night, another day has passed. Days and nights only discernable for Thurid by the subtle signs of light gracing the Phoenix being held down here. Once again, the Succubus would come and visit her, trying to sweeten her with words and promises of power beyond her imagination. Drained by the succubus' kiss, and fed just enough to keep her alive, the strong willed woman can only last so much longer...

The Guild, together with the Order Paramount, has put in the work for a rescue. The city of Alexandria suddenly seeing an uptick in purchases of Cold Iron weaponry. A group of volunteers traveling with the current crew, promising to surround the entrances and exits of this place to ensure no demons will escape their wrath.

Archivists at the Explorers' guild managed to find old maps to the mines they found at the edges of the borders, and tracked down an old Gnome who used to work the location. There's an alternative entrance they can take to sneak past the dangerous mineshaft.

It has been a good two hours of painstakingly following a map through the old mines, having infiltrated through a hole that got them mighty wet - a shared lake area down far below. There's been a few errors on the way where the map was out of date, places where earth needed moving, but they finally are starting to see the light. The sound of chanting in the distance by demonic beings. The chittering of Imps and the deep crowing rumbling of a Phoenix.

There's a sense of dread in the air. Of loss and corruption. A cloying darkness that reaches out and seeks to sink into everything here.

The trek down through the mines gets Slixvah all antsy from the lack of sky. The egalrin quietly fussing as they leave the lake sopping wet. Still so after she cleans herself off and everyone else with a simple bit of magic. But they draw closer, the sound of some kind of ritual apparent to the witch. Slix closes her eyes, and deeply exhales. "Okay loves."

She cracks her knuckles. Unto each person, she tugs at something invisible, places a knife on something, then gives it a little twist and ties it off. There is a sensation of anticipation, the good kind. Like watching an arrow on its way to a bullseye. "Strike hard and fast. It won't last long. Whatever ya'll decide ta do, do it wit' gusto."

What follow is a plethora magic spells that seems to enhance Slix's capabilities and vitality. Subtle cyan runes flutter off of her as she has a scroll tube popped and in hand. "Ok. Let's free bird this."

Delving nito caves like these almost feels like old times for Rune. She had made her way in the world, from time to time, hiring herself out as an Adventurer, aiding various groups and that went dungeon delving. This, however, has far more tension to it. One of their own was in peril and that meant not lingering for long.

Moving through the caves, Rune blends in with her surroundings in an almost eerie way. The shadows seem to cling to her, giving the impression of only faint movement where the light doesn't quite reach. Her usual weapons are sheathed across her back in exchange for a pair of cold-iron blades which are distinctly dull compared to her usual enchanted weaponry.

"My thoughts, exactly." The rogue whispers, her voice seeming to come almost out of nowhere.

GAME: Thurid rolls perception: (17)+10: 27

Aelwyn had seen worse than this cave. He has been gutted, beaten, battered and driven to nightmares. Yet, to someone who dances with fire, there was a near-religious aspect to this delve. To free their companion, to free the phoenix.

To see the fires soar in the sky. If he could, the ruddy sith-makar, clad in his suspiciously open chain shirt and leather straps, would raise to the sky with them.

Yet, this was the dungeon, and these were cold walls and cold iron weapons. He had a very plain looking glaive in his hands - and it only carried one single red ribbon on it. There were no fancy engravings, there were no sign of love from a craft. Simply, one, large, single ribbon carefully tied around it in an intricate pattern. And so he moved in quiet with the rest, bright orange eyes staring into the darkness.

GAME: Fidget rolls 0: (10)+0: 10
<OOC> Fidget will take the 10+3=13.

Vaera was feeling a bit more comfortable this time, at least with the knowledge that they were properly equipped to deal with what they might find. Physically, at least, as the whole business does have her on edge. Perhaps it was simply the thought of someone being imprisoned down here that made the hunter move particularly quickly, yet quietly. The red makari already had their firearm at the ready.

Lamenting to herself about having few spells that are very effective against creatures made of fire, Fidget spends a moment as they approach wreathing herself in a few layers of protective magic. If you look closely, you'd see both the faint aura just above her skin, and a nearly invisible current of protection that swirls around her. And then several other effects from her companions on top of those. She creeps forward with the group, occasionally spotting moving forms in the distance.

Creeping deeper in, the sounds of movement become clearer. The flapping of wings. The chirping in some kind of demonic language. The sounds of a sweet feminine voice, talking to someone. That rumble and cloying darkness in the air gets heavier the closer and closer they get...

The figure of Thurid is near the middle of the large expanse of the cave, wrists shackled behind her back, head bowed and on her knees. Her unkempt hair is matted, braids frayed, hanging over her face. She is dirty, gaunt and pale, dark veins visible beneath the skin. The wounds she sustained in their last encounter are still caked with dried blood, healed but roughly. Her eyes are raw, and dark bags surround her eyes.

As the seductress whispers to her once more, she flinches away. Jaw clenched, lips pressed into a thin line even as she trembles.

She gives a shudder, the strength going out of her as she slumps forwards, exhaling a slow breath. She swallows hard, twice, and then slowly rises to her feet. She lifts her head and finally opens her eyes- bloodshot, and the steel grey irises shot through with flecks of sickly yellow and blood red.

"With Angoron's might... I serve." she swears to the Succubus. With a swell of the muscles of her shoulders and back, she wrenches against the manacles, and with an almighty effort, the chain coupling them breaks at a link, leaving the remains hanging from her wrists. She reaches for the haft of her hammer, nearby.

The Goblin trails along near the rear, looking nervously about at every shadow. A pale glow surrounds Simony, with pale, feathered wings stretching from her shoulders. Her pupils have dilated to maximum extent as she peers deep into the darkness, squinting to make out finer details.

"Hard to imagine this place full of activity, isn't it? Dwarves or men, toiling at the rock to extract its riches. So much decay, of ... Time having moved on."

She nods when Slixvah begins her spells, and the Gobbo adds a few of her own prayers. "... guide my companions' weapons, protect their minds from harm, and bolster their courage. ... And mine."

<OOC> Thurid uses Jotun racial ability to take 20 on a strength check, plus one use of Touch of Strength gives me 34 to burst the shackles.

"Excellent, my Champion." The succubus whispers to Thurid, touching her arm with her golden eyes. Leaning in to kiss her on the cheek, before stepping back. "Protect us while we finish our task. It won't be but a few minutes from now. Though I doubt your hammer will be used this day. Adventurers are oft so slow..." Before stepping away from the Cleric.

GAME: Vaera rolls survival: (9)+13: 22
<OOC> Vaera says, "+4 for looking for tracks
GAME: Thurid rolls perception: (6)+10: 16

Thurid begins to walk towards the cavern entrance, the hammer dragging along the ground behind her, kicking up sparks as adamantium gouges much softer stone. Her eyes, without their usual brightness and face without its usual smile look alien. Even her movements are different- hulking and brutish, but without the easy nobility with which she typically carries herself.

GAME: Simony rolls sense motive: (7)+3: 10

Vaera stops and takes a look at the ground. The ridges of their brow furrow slightly, and the larger red makari chuffs quietly. "Not leaving any tracks here, guess they're flying around, I shouldn't be surprised. But they've lit the torches here, so we might find where they came from if we follow where they lit the torches back. Of course, that might make us easier to spot, too."

GAME: Fidget rolls sense motive+1: (7)+1+1: 9

Simony moves up to Slixvah's side, her voice low. "Is that her, is that Thurid? We might have an easier time than we expected, yes?" The Gobbo peers up at the Egalrin a moment, before stepping forward.

"Psst!" She gestures a hand at Thurid, beckoning her to hurry. "We're here to get you out. Come quickly.", she says, her voice just above a whisper.

Aelwyn's not the most perceptive - most trees look like trees - but he glances around the party with a questioning glance. "This one will move forward. It sounds as if what lies beyond, has to be stopped." He then quietly says, before picking up his glaive and moving at a slow run behind some of the pillars. He leans against one their stony surfaces and pulls the dark glaive against his body, trying to peek around the corner.

GAME: Rune rolls sense motive: (9)+8: 17
<OOC> Harkashan says, "Correction - Rune, you notice something odd about Thurid. The way they are slumped and the look in their eyes... you've seen that look before. You've experienced this yourself before."

The fact that others have seen Thurid has Rune's cautious nature rearing up. This seems too easy. Staying to the shadows, the rogue creeps forward so she can get a better look, but there are large stones that block her vision. Inwardly, she curses the fact that visibility is not quite as easy in places like this.

However, she does spot Thurid. The problem is... the posture, the expression, and the overall way that she is holding herself says that while this may be Thurid, they are not exactly themselves. "Be careful. I'm pretty sure that Thurid is being controlled. Likely by a succubus or incubus. She's not on our side right now."

Vaera slinks forward with the others once some idea of a path is determined, slowed down a bit as she finishes her investigation. Now with Thurid found and suddenly moving much more quickly, she jogs forward past Aelwyn, keeping her thunderbelcher at the ready. Xg"Thurid's there. Incubus Next to her. Around eighty feet. Going to attack once they're in range." <Handspeech> she gestures quickly back.

Slix looks over at the others as they slink forward, her eyes widening at Rune's heads up. "Oh. Shoot. Okay. Okay. Ya'll go to the phoenix, I'll get Thurid! I'll be a distraction!" She gives a thumbs up.

Just as she steps out, Fidget's haste kicks in as she zips past Vaera and slides to a stop, large wings flared out. Feathers extend outwards, animating, and she flips her knife in the air. "Raticyl!" she shouts, pulling on a knotted ethereal string. The wavy knife hovers in the air briefly before cutting straight through the knot.

The hold on Thurid is severed.

<OOC> Fidget might figure out what Slixvah did, and not need to fireball Thurid :)

As the counterspell washes over her, Thurid halts, and then cries out in agony. The black veins running under her skin throb, and oily black corruption seeps from her eyes and ears as the fiendish influence is driven out by force. She collapses to a knee, holding the haft of her hammer to keep her upright. She coughs, and wipes some of the Ichor from her mouth. "Took your time." she croaks to the adventurers she had been staring at with murderous intent moments ago.

Teeth gritted, she forces herself back up to her feet and one hand clutches her holy symbol. She turns about, looking back the way she came. "My mind is not your plaything, whore of the hells!" she barks back towards the Succubus at the far side of the cavern. "I will break you as I broke your sister! And I will break you each and every time you foul this world with your presence. I will remember you, and you will never be safe from my fury." she swears. As she makes this promise, her body begins to increase in size- muscles swell, her height expands until she looms tall in the cavern. Her hammer is held in both hands.

"Did it work?", Simony wonders of Slixvah, but Thurid's actions immediately after answers the question soon enough.

"Try to stick close by, if you can!", the Goblin calls out to everyone, as her holy symbol begins to glow brightly. "Holy Navos, Raven that sees all things. Impart to me the power to protect from, and drive out, the machinations of evil." A pale blue light begins to radiate from Simony, those nearby may feel something covering them, like a protective blanket.

<OOC> Harkashan says, "Aelwyn, Will against 23"
GAME: Aelwyn rolls will+1: (4)+3+1: 8

Aelwyn keeps his head down as he keeps running forward, feeling the haste in his limbs propel him forward. Barely breathing, he attempts to keep his head low while the rest of the party - mainly Thurid - causes the ruckus.

Then he leans against the wall again, looking around the corner... before he looks around for the rest of his party, gesturing with his hand. Whatever it is, has got him pointing agitatedly.

There's a loud hiss from across the rocks when Slixvah's spell takes affect on Thurid! There's a struggle there, as Slixvah tries to dispel the magics, only for the bird to come out on top. A sudden scree of anger, followed by the Succubus crying out; "Intruders! Kill them! Protect the ritual!"

Spotting Aelwyn approaching, she is quick to step towards Aelwyn, transforming herself into the vision of someone he adores while demanding; "Go! Protect us!" As she transforms into a more demonic version of Rune. Horned, the markings on her skin with a deep wine-red color. "Protect the ritual from harm, attack the Adventurers!"

<OOC> Rune says, "Okay, moved. Will charge/stab the incubus near Thurid with flanking. And apparently I'm stabbing it between rocks so I'm at a penalty."

There is a moment of hesitation as Rune waits in the shadows, knowing that their ally has turned enemy. Once the spell has been broken, the rogue darts forward, abandoning her previous stealth in order to try to aid Thurid. There is no knowing exactly what state she is in after her capture and Rune isn't about to leave her fighting alone.

Racing forward, she catches glimpse of the succubus from out of the corner of her eye. "Oh come on. Rude. It's trying to look like me."

Then, she focuses on the fight, moving to position herself between some rocks in order to fight against one of the incubus closest to Thurid. "Got your back." She slashes with her blade, the weapon digging in deep with the heavy impact of cold iron.

Fidget says and grins at the pale gobbo next to her. Then things start to go rapidly awry - Fidget dances forward to get a good view on the enemies she'd glimpsed before, all these rocky protrusions getting in the way. Then she utters a short, powerful bark of magical language and throws an orb of fire down the middle of the cavern, with one hand on a rod at her hip, the orb rapidly oscilates between colours and elements, one moment fire, another lightning, and lastly ice, before it explodes between two demons in a burst of cold and icicle shrapnel, barely missing real-Rune.

Called by the Succubus, the flapping gets louder. Imps rushing through. Though this is rather odd. So far, all they have faced are demons. But clearly, these are devils! Her eyes widen. "Two vats! Gotta get rid of 'em!" Once more, her knife comes up to try and cut out a knot of magic on one of the vats, but its too taut! And the spell fizzles. "Ceiwen damn it!" she seethes.

Thurid's eyes flit from the Succubus for a moment to the IMp coming her way, and she swings the hammer around- choking her grip up to the hilt to precisely control the blow sending the IMp reaaling- but not before it manages to prick her with it's stinger. "Tch." she complains, "I suppose we'll deal with the small fry first." she says, and then clutches her holy symbol again as she looks towards the groups of Imps. "Angoron, strike down these fiends and cast them back to the hells from whence they came." she beseeches.

A shaft of light bursts through the rock above, no cavern hidden from The Mountain's sight, and washes over the imps and Brimorak's guarding the Phoenix in chains. The imps stand no chance- they are instantly disintegrated, skin, then flesh, then bones turning to ash. The Brimorak's are made of sturdier stuff, but stumble blindly away from the holy radiance that has left them scorched and smoking.

The Gobbo murmurs a quiet prayer, a hand grasping her holy symbol. Above her head, the ghostly image of a large fist begins to coalesce. As the spell completes, her eyes flash a pale white light, and the fist ZIPS across the battlefield, to bap the incubus on the nose, drawing a trickle of blood. "Your salvation begins... NOW!"

"Sssh! Stop!" The Dragoon picks up his iron glaive, and runs towards his party instead - or in this case, Slixvah. There was not an effort wasted in his body as he brings the glaive above him to bear, slamming it down into the soft mushroom. "This wanton murder shall not net us anything, Ribbon!"

One of Rune's ears twitch, hearing Aelwyn's voice talking about her hair color. "Shiiit." She doesn't have time to deal with that particular problem at the moment, however.

Instead, Rune focuses on the two incubus that are within the range of herself and Thurid. First, a blade slashes through between the rocks, stabbing through the chest of the nearest one. Then the rogue hops up where Simony's spiritual weapon is already threatening the enemy.

"Excuse me." She says to it, as if it had some kind of consciousness. Then, she continues to give the remaining incubus a taste of cold iron blades, slashing through flesh until it joins the other on the floor.

With a laugh that echoes in the cave in the moments between the weapons clashing, the explosive spells, and the sounds of imps dying, Fidget says "Do you now? And how did a chaste nun like you learn about that stuff?" in a teasing voice. She rushes forwards to get close enough to those vats that Slixvah had been trying to dispel, furrowing her brows for a moment before realizing why. "Oh, yeah. That's probably a good idea!" the goblin says, and with a swoosh of her hands an arcane diagram drawn in light appears in front of her, the diagram fuzzing with the effort of keeping it in place, Fidget tries to dissassemble the spell, but it slips out of her grasp and the disagram fuzzes and fades away entirely, "Damnit! The Succubus in the meantime, has cast a spell that pulls it from the material plane, its Ethereal Jaunt allowing it to become invisible.

Voices. Teeth exposed, as Thurid approaches - and his glaive scrapes forward. Hand laid on him, he attempts to slide free from it; struggling backwards. "You do not understand, you are the corrupt-" And then a moment of clarity strikes him as Simony approaches him, his orange eyes widening in surprise. Ah.

"Tch." The ruddy sith-makar then spits to the ground. "This one thinks horns do not work for Twin, anyway." He rumbles and unsteadily pulls the cold iron glaive towards himself. With a solemn nod to the others - he holds his glaive against his chest and rushes towards one of the Brimoarks.

The cold iron glaive sways, and sways as the draconian attempts to get into the rhythm of footsteps - but due to the unfamiliar weapon, it nacks into the uneven ground, sending him tumbling.

Enough for the succubus to kiss him. "Tch, and this one thought there would be heat in that kiss." He throws back at her, out of breath. "Growing cold?"

The problem, however, is that her movements around the stones are a bit erratic, trying to adjust from the sudden loss of magical energy and speed. In fact, she nearly trips on the way.

So, by the time she joins Aelwyn against her doppelganger, all Rune can do is lash out with one of the cold iron blades, barely scratching flesh. "I wear it better." She scowls.

Perhaps it is because Rune has fallen prey to these sort of creatures before, or perhaps it is because the succubus is wearing her own face, but with a quick shake of her head, the rogue dismisses the enchantment. She looks over to Aelwyn, offering him a wink before she settles her gaze back on ... herself.

"You see, I take particular offense to a monster wearing my face and trying to seduce my friends. It's /my/ job to seduce my friends, damn it." She curses. Stepping forward, the two cold iron blades are brandished in the direction of the succubus.

She shrinks back down to her normal size, casting a glance back over her shoulder towards the Brimorak that dispelled her blessing. "Tch. Would a Puny human be able to do this?" she asks, and rears back the hammer striking the dented vat again. It rings like a gong, the liquid inside once more splashing.

The force of the strike reverberates back through the hammer, and she is knocked backwards half a step, but with a twist of the heel she arrests the movement, and then stomps her forward foot back down again as she reverses it- the muscles on her arms and back swelling with strain as the massive earthbreaker is brought crashing ino steel once more, shearing it open with a resounding crash.

The foul liquid within washes over her, soaking her from head to toe-n but the wings of light on her back flare out, casting off some of the goo, as she whirls about, eyes set now on the Phoenix.

The succubus slain, the heavy darkness in the air begins to subside. The divine presence through what Slixvah has done, in combination with the vat being broken...

With the immediate threats no longer in her vincinity, Rune focuses on the phoenix. She does a quick sweep to spot where it is being held by and races towards them, readying herself. As she moves, one of the blades is dropped and her hand is already reaching for the rolled up set of tools she might need to be able to undo the locks.

The only problem being, that the phoenix is quite hot to be near, and it's obvious from the way that Rune grits her teeth that it is quite painful to be close to. "Fuck. Any chance you could temper the heat a little bit? We're trying to help."

Vaera dashes to chase down the remaining demons, but without a good chance to fell them, she turns to aim at the already damaged chains, firing off a shot that cracks some of the metal further. "I do not know what they plan, so we should end this before they try anything else." The hunter warns, turning back to see the falcons return. "It seems we may have some more time, your aid is welcome!"

As Rune and Fidget get close to the Phoenix, the fierce heat of its presence radiates against them. Burning them. It squawks. It doesn't wish to harm them at all. But it can't be any less Phoenix than it is, even with this corruption running through it! The reason the Brimoraks were the ones overseeing it, was because they are immune to its fire.

The Brimoraks, on the retreat, hold up their hands to be hoisted up by a set of Incubi, only for there to be a loud squawk suddenly, as Soot and Sheen come rushing down the mineshaft. Summoned by Her Majesty's calls, they intervene with the Incubi, stopping them from hoisting the Brimoraks!

She throws out a hand, a spider's web gumming up the entire shaft!

Which then a fireball comes back in reply. Slix gasps, throwing a hand out as a storm cloud briefly manifests to blunt the flames.

Thurid steps out of the goop that spilled all over her and towards the others, wading into the heat washing over her from the Phoenix's fire. "You may as well ask the sun not to shine, or the tide not to surge." she calls over to Rune's way, ignoring the reddening of her skin and the smell of fine hairs curling and burning away on her arms as she steps closer. She puts a hand on Fidget's shoulder, urging her to step back. "Nicely done, I'll finish this side off." she offers.

She hefts her hammer in both hands, lifting it high, high over her head. "I am Thurid Freeborn. My hammer is the Chainbreaker. And I will countenance no creature enslaved."

The mighty earhtbreaker is brought down on the damaged section of chain, and the links shatter violently under the crushing blow.

Once more, she calls upon Navos the Raven, to heed her call and grant those around her relief and succor.

Staying close to the phoenix is a difficult task, but there are times when you endure the pain in order to achieve a greater good. "Yeah, I know. But our little Sun-falcon friends were able to, so it was worth a shot." A bit of Simony's healing magic does help to dampen the burnt flesh on her cheek.

Crouching, Rune breaks out her tools and begins to work on the lock on the chains, some of the leather of her gloves burning in the process. However, there is a resounding *click* once the lock is disabled, causing Rune to grab for her things, ready to roll backwards out of the way should the phoenix decide it wants to flare even brighter.

As its last wing is freed, the Phoenix suddenly lets out a loud squawk...

Before a beautiful corona of flames burst over them. For a moment, it might seem like they are all about to be absorbed in a massive sphere of flames. But as the flames grow, and the light expands, instead... they feel their wounds being knitted closed. Slixvah being awoken by the light of the Phoenix in that moment.

It then looks at the group below it. It doesn't speak, but there is a grateful gaze in its eyes. Taking each and every-one of them in. Their reflections within its large eyes for but a moment...

Before it flaps its wings and turns, flying out of the Mineshaft! Screetching into the skies - grabbing the Brimoraks with its claws and tearing them apart on its flight up...

About a few seconds later, the corpses of the two Brimoraks land at the bottom of the mindshaft and SPLATTER into bones and fire and corrupted blood.

<OOC> Harkashan says, "(Mass cure critical wounds)"

Thurid hollers- her face breaking into a smile, a more natural look than the anger and consternation that had darkened her features since the party arrived. She hefts her hammer up into the air, laughing as the Phoenix flies free. "Soar, you magnificant bastard!" she calls after the phoenix. She shields herself from a splatter of gore as the bodies fall nearby, and then turn to her allies.

"Thank you, all. I didn't doubt for a minute that you would come for me." she says, and then steps up to Slixvah, reaching down to clasp her forearm and pull her back to her feet. "And thank you, most of all." she says, her tone becoming quieter, more somber. "That fiend dug her claws deep into me. It shames me that I succumbed, but it would have shamed me further had you not stopped me from harming my friends."

The albino Goblin watches in awe as the Phoenix is freed from her chains, entranced by the sudden engulfment of flames, ones that do no harm, but heal. She cheers as the natural, living embodiment of flame skreees and roars through the mineshaft, scorching and rending those who one would think were relatively unharmed by fire.

In a sobering moment, Simony watches Slixvah get helped to her feet.

A moment later, the Gobbo is jumping into the Egalrin, her little face wet with tears.

Vaera braces for the flames, expecting some sort of firestorm like last time, but with no harmful effects, the hunter lets out a puff of head and shakes her head as the remaining devils are no more.

"Just don't put yourself in a situation to need rescuing again without reason." The red makari chuffs. "There is a line between righteous vengeance and foolish actions which you do not ever wish to cross. Trust me on that." They add gravely. "That being said, I am glad you are alright."

The Dragoon stumbles back as the Phoenix finally is free and flies; eyes looking up towards the skies. "Ah." He then says, quietly by himself. "To be finally free." His lips twist into a grin - a sombre moment that is ended by the splatter of gore nearby.

Walking over towards Thurid and Slixvah, he then bows his head in deep. Deep enough for his horns to nearly touch the ground; fully exposing his neck. "This one apologizes; for he rose the blade against one's own. It is a debt to this one's glaive."

Slixvah staggers as she is engulfed in flames. And nearly falls over into a heap as she catches herself on a knee. And then fire blooms behind her. She closes her eyes. Damn, this was going to... hurt?

She blinks, looking as her wounds are gone and burned away. Eyes widen as she sees the Phoenix blast on out of the mineshaft. It's... so beautiful.

Splat. "Hah!"

Half her ribbons burned, she turns to the group, grinning as she tackled by Simony. "I'm fine! Ya'll did great!" she cheers, patting Simony on the back, wincing with each brush.

She gets helped back up to her feet, grinning at Thurid. "Don' sweat it hon, we all goof from time ta time, but th' most important thing is trustin' others ta pull ya out!"

She watches Aelwyn's apology, a soft sigh escaping her as she pats his head. "Apology accepted. Now. Let's get out of this madness, yeah?"

With the phoenix freed, Rune stares at the brightness of it, leaving motes in her eyes before it takes leave into passageway that leads towards escape. Pushing herself to her feet, she stows her tools and walks back to collect her discarded blade. "I hope this was enough for our Sun-falcon friends." She sheaths the weapons, then brushes at the burnt spots on her armor.

"The question is, what exactly were they trying to do and who sent them?" Her brow furrows. "Since I don't think these were the actual kidnappers. Soot talked about men with sticks." It seems they are left with lingering questions.

Taking a staggering step back as the flames burst out from the Pheonix, Fidget trips and falls as the flames wash over her, and is surprised when it doesn't cause her to black out entirely. After a moment of dazed shock, she mumbles, "Ohhh, phoenix." and then she flops back on the ground, and lays there, exhausted, though no longer sore. "No, that's terrible advice. Foolish actions are way more interesting. The trick is to usually not do the foolish things that get you and your friends killed. So it looks like this one was fine." After a bit, she takes a deep breath, and then hops back to her feet, the moment of rest over. She grabs a small vial from inside her dress somewhere, and carefully puts some of that evil liquid in it for later study. And some of the other one too, mixed with the holy water.

"Right, the cultists." Thurid says and nods her head over towards Rune. "I saw them, but they refused to speak with me. They couldn't face the evil in their hearts no matter how often I called out to them offering them redemption. Eventually they left the demons to my captivity, and I've not seen them since." she says then.

She offer Vaera a sheepish shrug, "I saw someone in chains, in pain. I had no choice but to act. You may as well ask the sun not to shine, or the tide not to surge." she offers, repeating her line about the phoenix's fire.
