Seldan goes running towards Rhain Padaryn, and the dragon roars in response, black wings fanning out. Zeke's pleas to offer something in exchange for its attention go unnoticed.

"I DO NOT WANT MEAT. I DESIRE DEATH." The dragon's stance is clear.

"Scawy!" wails the little Mariana, her little voice, thankfully, not carrying very far as she cries.

"Very well," Telamon Lupecyll-Atlon says, and his voice is rimed with ice, a tone no sane person would take with a creature as powerful as a dragon. Unless... one carries power as well. Swiftly, the sorcerer intones, "Lukas, sa-i'iz!", quickening the movements and speed of his party as he levitates into the air.

And then he begins to chant, his voice echoing. "Behold, the unquenchable fire of the stars. Mulan, ki-la geshe... namgilima ganzer dib!" A crackle of white hot energy seethes around him, and suddenly four spheres appear circling him. With a quick gesture, he sends them rocketing into the dragon, and the entire ridgeline seems to explode in a fiery inferno, a sight to please any goblin. Soaring backwards from the blast towards the cave, Telamon shouts, "Get clear! I don't think I killed him!"

It seems diplomacy is not in the cards today.

Telamon, indeed, did not kill the dragon.

Batting its wings, the dragon roars as it emerges from Telamon's onslaught, bloodied and enraged. "YOU MUST DO MORE THAN THAT TO END THIS, SOFTSKIN." The bellow is that of a creature intent on onslaught, a prideful thing that is affronted by the blows done to it by the creature so much smaller than itself.

It opens its mouth.

Verna and Zeke receive the brunt of its assault, a spray of acid that jets out in a line and scorches the very earth. It appears to have chosen to repay Zeke's kind offerings of meat with violence.

"Then so shall it be," Seldan intones, once he's gotten over the startlement of fire and acid beginning to fly, and the sharp shock of seeing his friends hit so hard. "You wish for death? Then by Her holy path through the night sky, I shall see your wish granted. Let Her light by my hand strike you to your heart!"

As he finishes, he draws the cackling and cheering cacophony known as Reunion from its sheath, led by the inimitably querulous Kanian, and mighty white, feathered wings burst from his armored back, unfurling and supporting him as he jumps into the air, pounding hard to propel him with impossible speed into the sky, right where the dragon perches.

A dragon. Chromatic: black, to be more precise. Affinity with the element of acid and the elemental archetype of earth. This fact is made painfully (very painfully) clear as Verna is doused in a spray of it. It may be mildly helpful that cloak, robes, and gloves cover 95 of her person... or it may simply cause the dissolving to linger whilst obscuring the wounds. Perhaps she can make use of this affinity to earth?

Still-sizzling gloves move as fingers articulate and utterances are hissed from somewhat clenched teeth against the pain as she manipulates the mana around the creature - nay within - the creature. Black scales begin to alter on the surface, paling to a less lustrous basalt sheen... but only for a moment before the draconic essence pushes her attempt back and away.

It seems the affinity was not enough, after all.

Zeke is covered in acid. His raiment burns away to reveal his armor and his scales beneath. Many of which are destroyed instantly by the fact that the acid has seared his flesh and melted it to ruin. The pain is intense enough that he has to close his eyes to it - a good thing considering that he might well have lost his eyes to the onslaught - and he prays to the Dragonfather for healing. "Let your light ssshine on thisss one." He murmurs, and the pain recedes.

He is not yet done however, clasping a hand to the armor he wears it lifts him into the air and carries him to Seldan's side. He may respect the black dragon, but he can not, will not fear it. "At your ssside kin!" He informs Seldan, knowing that his presence and his touch can give the other an advantage against the beast that his kin fights now.

As had been warned before, another dragon enters the field of vision. It gives a mighty roar to see its mate engaged in combat. "THE MORTALS WILL NOT BE SUFFERED TO LIVE!" it bellows in an infernal match to its mate's attitude.

Telamon's wings, six flaring vanes of light that extend out from his back like insect pinions, flare and flex as he brakes and comes around for a second pass. Seeing another dragon show up, he curses softly, incanting a quick spell to ward off acidic damage before he comes rocketing back.

"If this is how you want it, then by Ni'essa, I will oblige you!" he thunders. Chanting again as he soars back into the fray, energies building up around him as a circle of arcing light whirls around him. Suddenly four more blazing spheres of starfire pop into existence, and slam into the newer dragon with thunderous explosions. "Now -back off or I will END YOU-."

The dragon in front of Seldan rages, whirling in a hail of teeth, wings, claws, and tail. It only manages to get a bite and one claw in on Seldan, but Zeke fares worse, the dragon scoring a particularly nasty claw-rake in Zeke's armor.

"I WILL KILL YOU FIRST, SERVANT OF DAEUS," it promises to Zeke in a venomous, hateful bellow.

The dragon's mate, in the meantime, seems content to focus fire on the one who assaulted it: in this case, one Telamon Lupecyll-Atlon. It opens its mouth and bellows:

"YOUR PALTRY FIRE WILL NOT SAVE YOU FROM MY MAW."

Acid rains down from the dragon's open mouth and attempts to coat Telamon, but the half-sil sorcerer seems entirely unfazed. The dragon gives a huff of outrage and swoops down from the sky, landing in front of Telamon with a massive thud on the ground. Orange eyes glitter with desire to simply end the half-sil's life by eating him where he stands.

Vicious claws and teeth find their mark, even in an impossibly fast paladin, but of far greater concern to Seldan is Zeke. "Zeke, get out of reach!" he shouts, even as crimson flies from his own wounds. The crimson, though, is mingled with something - viscous and inky black, sparkling with silver glitter. The blackness pours from the deep rents in his skin where the claws found purchase beneath armor, and boils forth from the fair skin, coating it and the wounds.

Then, he turns his attention to the dragon itself, icy blue eyes narrowed in hate. "Only two beings shall be murdered this day, and one is the filth that flies before me. The other is his accursed mate." The icily furious statement is not a threat, it is the gravest of promises, and even as he speaks it, one hand reaches to the breast of his armor, laying there as silver light forms beneath it for a split second. It vanishes, and Reunion lashes out in a cry of glee and singing steel, opening up multiple grievous wounds from which ichor flies. "Come, then. Turn upon me if you dare."

Verna is concerned for Zeke and Seldan... well, admittedly moreso Zeke... as the two leap into range of tooth and claw. Yet, she is well aware that few would guard the other moreso than those two. There is also the matter of the other dragon that just alighted upon Telamon (and very near herself). "No!"

She turns to them and, after a mental note to inquire of Telamon about his corrosion-resistant parasol, begins to gesture and incant.. and beseech. "Your time is nigh for judgement by The Harpist!" She even does so in Draconic before sliding more easily into to Mysandraal for the remaining words. Negative energies are conjured to each hand: differing sources, for slightly differing intent, yet both are directed to the nearer blackscale. There, both wrack at its essence: one tugging at its breath whilst the other attacks its very being.

GAME: Zeke casts Heal. Caster Level: 18 DC: 24

Zeke is breathing heavy from that blow, but he refuses to bow to the dragon. "Sssa!" He says to the dragon. "You are NOTHING before the Dragonfather!" He lets the warmth pulse through him and into Seldan as he steps back and lets that same warmth restore his body to its natural state. Every scale perfect. Every bit of blood only a splash of color. "BEHOLD!"

It might not be wise to mock a dragon, certainly isn't, but he would rather it waste its efforts on him than on his kin. Let it try to reach him.

Telamon whirls aside as the black dragon's corrosive breath blasts past him, only the barest edges catching him and sizzling off the protective ward he cast. As he completes his pirouette in midair, he meets the dragon eye to eye, and deliberately brushes some dust off his shoulder. "Performance issues, dear?" he says with a faint grin. Then Verna unleashes magical wrath, and Tel can't help but wince as the spells slam into the wyrm, staggering it.

"Alright, I think you need some time in the box to consider your sins," he points a ring at the dragon, and growls, "Now, get in the box!" The sphere starts to form around the dragon, but it doesn't capture it, and Telamon just shakes his head. "Well, hell. Hold on, I'll be right back." And with that, he quickly chants another spell, vanishing from sight.

The dragon that Seldan and Zeke are facing down has no intention of letting Zeke's challenge go without an answer. "YOU FLEE, COWARD, DESPITE DECLARING YOUR GOD'S SUPERIORITY!" it bellows.

Once again, its attacks are spread out between Seldan and Zeke. The bite and claws don't sink into the Elunan paladin's flesh, protected by his goddess's light, but even as Verna from below petitions her goddess for divine interference, the wings and tail of the dragon lash into Zeke's scales.

Rattled by Verna's spellwork, the other dragon staggers forward, reeling visibly. "I WILL FEAST ON YOUR FLESH YET, INVISIBLE ONE," it bellows, before turning glittering orange eyes onto Verna.

A Mourner will do just fine to sate the hunger, too.

"It is not him you need worry for." Dragon claws scrape with sparks across armor, but none find purchase thanks to the silver light that surrounds Seldan, and he replies in kind, with multiple vicious blows, the last of which stabs through the dragon's eye and into its brain, leaving it to tumble to the crags below with a dying scream.

The paladin is left behind, black-crimson-blue ichor coating fair hair, gleaming armor, and spattering feathery white wings, near-coating gauntleted hand and gleaming, gleeful sword that lets out a many-voiced cheer as its foe falls. Seldan, however, is quieter, and watches his foe tumble lifelessly to the crags far beneath them, its broken body splaying on the rocks. "May the blessings of the Draco Solis go with you."

After receiving far too strong a miasma from the one dragon's breath, alone, Verna is not keen that the other now moves to stand before her. She reacts promptly with gestures anew, though these are far more careful: not due to the precision required for the manipulation, but now to avoid having any of her fingers (or hand, or arm) placed at a convenient biting height for said dragon. "Any harm upon myself shall be visited upon yourself!" It would be much more reassuring were she able to add 'ten-fold' or other significant multiplier to that statement.

It would prove even more comforting had the resulting magic taken hold of the creature.

Perhaps it might be convinced all the same?
