  • Title: Fortuitous Goblintown Meeting
  • Characters: Culix, Merek, Rumbo
  • Place: A02: Goblintown
  • Time: Friday, December 4th, 2020, 11:00 AM
  • Summary: Rumbo emerged from Ma Rosie's Gambling Hall for some fresh evening air (if such could be found in Goblintown) and after protecting himself to endure the elemnets bumped into two people he is interested in for different reasons. Culix to discuss the merits of Alexandria's Order of the Sunset and Sage Merek to deliver the letter of introduction Cryosanthia had kindly written him several days past. When Culix discovered that Merek is a human who is fluent in Gobber-talk she decided that discretion might be the better course concerning the Ebon Syndicate but Rumbo and his big mouth blurted it out openly and again called the Ebon Syndicate assholes! Merek displayed his artificial arm and offered to help Rumbo design a suitable prosthetic leg of magitech to replace the simple wooden peg. Merek also gave some advice about Alexandrian culture after Rumbo expressed his difficulty understanding the local nuances.

'Goblintown' consists of a dead-end street where a number of poor (and, as the name suggests, goblinoid) residents of the city live. Many of the buildings here have been cobbled together with whatever material was available at the time, often bits of metal and stone stolen from the factories to the north rather than wood. That said, in recent days, many of these temporary structures have been converted to more permanent fixtures, giving the area a less 'shanty' and more 'conventional' appearance, interspersed with the previously impoverished look the place was known for.

The occasional shrine to Reos seems to represent the only 'official' presence in the area, with the City Watch seeming all but invisible here. In their place, there appear to be numerous Arvek and Gobber groups that form a makeshift community watch, giving the sense of wary eyes on every street. From time to time, the symbol of Serriel may be seen as well, though mainly among the Arvek, who oft bear it with pride. Oruch shops sit alongside gobber ones, though the latter far outnumber the former; gobbos' nimble minds make them the natural crafters of the goblinoid world.

At one point there were few shops here, but now the entire area bristles with brisk trade of things ranging from basic necessities to the more esoteric magical and bits of artificery. It is said that one can find everything they need in Goblintown without having to step foot in another section of the city, and this statement, judging by the activity in this area night and day, may very well hold true.

Rumbo has just stepped out onto the dead-end street known as Goblintown, emerging from that well known gambling hall with his dragonspitter out in hand spinning idly around his trigger finger. He is muttering to himself as he glances up at the dark sky and if one listens closely enough they might be able to pick out Eldritch words. The Gobber grips the dragonspitter tightly as he ends the incantation, holding it in both hands and it flashes briefly.

Culix is out and about today, and she sadly has no such magic to help with the weather. She does, however, have a cloak which is drawn up close under her chin, with a voluminous hood to protect her head as she makes her way down the street of the district. She is keeping her hands to herself, for a change, though that might just be because of the chill.

Rumbo resumes the twirling of his dragonspitter after the brief glowing subsides and he stands out in the road looking up at the dark sky with a wide gobber-smile while the hustle and bustle of Goblintown continues around him.

Merek is walking about in the place to look around and see what folk are doing, taking the time to adjust the beltcape which he wears while he picks up trinkets for artifice.

Culix continues making her way along the street, keeping her hands to herself and her eyes down. But she spies Rumbo, and she looks as though she is going to duck away to avoid him, for a moment. But eventually, she makes her way closer to the firearm brandishing, peg-legged goblin.

Rumbo twirls the dragonspitter directly into the holster on his gunbelt with a flourish as he looks back down from the sky and turns his attention to those on the road. Between the goblinoid and orcish people it isn't too difficult to spot the other races and Rumbo catches himself staring at the dusky human man walking through Goblintown. So much so that it is quite obvious Rumbo is staring and at who!

Merek looks then to Rumbo when the man looks that way, and nods a bit to him, "Ah, greetings," the man notes, while he looks to people he sees about, along Culix and anyone else. Less of note, seeing that he's not met her or a lot of people in the place, though he does seem familiar with a few shop keepers as well.

Culix sidles up to Rumbo, finally, "Hey." she says to him, "Kind of surprised to see you still only have the one peg leg." she tells him then, glancing about on the street. "Talking shit about the syndicate like that." she adds after a moment. <goblin-talk>

Rumbo tugs a letter out of a pocket of his coat and waves it in the air as he calls out in the common Tradespeak, "Sage Merek?! I've been looking for you to deliver this. Didn't think to find you in my home." He flashes that wide gobber-grin of his before he looks to the side and winks across to Culix.

Rumbo adds quietly, "Plenty of people say similar here. Gang of cultists, mostly, who keep the Goblinoid races low down. Goblintown is protected by the Sunset Order. The merchants here know what's what." <goblin-talk>

Merek nods a bit to Rumbo, "Thank you," he notes, with almost perfect Goblin-Talk, even with a little bit of the accent to make it understandable. He takes that letter while he opens it with a gloved hand if offered to him, "Ah, I appreciate it." <goblin-talk>

Culix eyeballs the human when he speaks in the goblin tongue, and she clams up about whatever she had intended to speak to Rumbo about, "Not always." he all she offers, ominous as it might seem, about his last statement. She takes a step away from him and glances about again. "But let's talk more about that, some time." she adds. <goblin-talk>

Rumbo smiles as he nods and says, openly and plainly, "Always happy to talk about the Sunset Order." <goblin-talk>

Rumbo smiles also up to Merek having handed over the letter and speaks again in the common Tradespeak, his accent and grammar much improved from when he first arrived in Alexandria. "I've finally learnt to speak so people don't assume I'm a simpleton!" He says proudly before tapping his wooden peg-leg on the ground, "It's time to fix what I came here for but the artificer who wrote that essay in the Clockwork and Steamfitters Journal can't help. I was told you might be able to offer some advice?"

GAME: Merek rolls craft/artifice: (5)+13: 18

Merek nods a bit to Rumbo, while he takes a moment to adjust his sleeve, then he shows an arm to the goblin, taking away a little of the magic while he doesn't seem to even try noticing the conversation between the other goblin, politely. He doesn't want to get involved in private things, "Apologies," then he shimmers a little bit of magic which shows that arm might look pretty real, except the subtle lines of mana. "With assistance of the Guild, I was able to make my own, I might not be the best at building it, but the design work I would be able to assist with, and assist whoever would make it." There's a nod, "No charge."

Culix eyeballs the magitech arm as it's displayed for a few long moments, but then she tears her eye away from it after a few moments. She tugs down her hood a bit over her head, "I'll catch you around." she tells Rumbo as he talks shop with Merek, and then makes her way towards the busier space outside of a nearby shop, attempting to slip away into it.

Rumbo waves just a little to Culix as his attention is focused on the display of a magical arm. "Very interesting. Cryosanthia did say you had a special arm with a magical touch." His eyes are firmly fixed upon the lines of mana as he speaks, "The drawings in the journal had a lot more gears and pistons for the magitech to power. I've secured funding for the project so help with design would be most welcome. Thank you indeed!"

"Alright! My own is fairly complicated within, I just added a covering that's basically well, so that it looks like an arm," Merek notes, while he looks to Culix, "I didn't want to be a bother, if you want to catch up with your friend, you can."

Rumbo manages to tear his attention away from the magical arm to gaze around the area before he asks, "My friend?" Then offers a cheery smile as he says, "Oh her. Ebon Syndicate I believe but when I met her a few days ago she was talking about how hard it is to leave them. I remember I also called them assholes." He gestures around vaguely with a sweep of his hand and suggests, "I recommended the Sunset Order might help someone looking to reform from that zealous gang."

Merek looks then to Rumbo while he places a hand to his face, "You probably shouldn't mention that openly," he notes, while he sighs, then nods a bit. "If your friend needs any assistance, they can ask as well, I'm often free." The man smiles.

Culix goes Lower Market <O>. Culix has left.

Rumbo frowns as he replies openly, "That's what Acedia said too. Gave me some falsity about odds and risk. When I tried to explain the conservation of the circle I think it put her to sleep though so I couldn't get to the bottom of it." Then after a tiny shrug of his tiny shoulders he asks, "And I thought honesty was encouraged in Alexandria?"

"Well it is, though... I would try to think about who you're speaking with. With me, that would be fine, it depends," Merek notes, while he nods a bit.

Rumbo sighs softly. "Alexandrian society can be difficult to understand." The gobber says as he shakes his head. "It represents as open and friendly, honest and earnest." There is a wave of his hand as he then states, "But it's also nuanced, and restrictive and complex. Don't wave a loaded dragonspitter around but then next time it's don't wave a dragonspitter it doesn't matter that it's unloaded! Don't lie Rumbo. Then it's don't say that. Now it's consider who you're talking with if you speak openly or lie!" There is another gentle shake of his head as he says, "Blod was simpler. Everyone who wanted to kill you was very open with their intentions."

"Well, you might have a point in all of that," Merek notes, while he seems to think about. The man nods, "Anyway, I should be about, if you need anything, you feel free to ask of me," he notes, smiling a bit while he yawns as well.

Rumbo flashes that wide gobber-grin of his and lifts his hand to tip his tricorne hat in reply, "And if there is anything I can assist with, in any way Sage Merek, then you can always call on Cogz Rumbo." The Gobber bows politely, but with such a slight frame it's a gentle bend forward at best.

Rumbo cheers, "I'm getting a new leg!" and draws the dragonspitter from his holster to twirl it festively around his trigger finger. <goblin-talk>

"Of course, you take care," Merek offers, waving a little bit to Rumbo, then he well he doesn't even seem that bothered by the dragonspitter, he does keep his own!
