  • Summary: Ravenstongue and Telamon are caught in a heavy downpour of icy rain, and they catch their breath under an umbrella when Schara invites them to come buy a temperature regulating amulet. The half-elves politely decline as Aya comes up. They exchange a brief word about Aya's troubles and arrange a later date at their home to discuss it, and Aya performs an act of charity by purchasing amulets for the needy with a platinum coin given to Schara.

University District, evening.

The stuff that's been falling from the sky all day, somewhere between snow and rain, has been coming and going in spits and spurts in the odd way that weather can occasionally resemble a cat that cannot decide if it's staying indoors or outdoors. Unfortunately for a certain half-elf couple on their way home, the icy rain's decided to start its bombardment again, resulting in Cor'lana Lúpecyll-Atlon diving under the cover of a large umbrella-shielded table at a cafe.

"Awful, just awful," Cor'lana murmurs as she takes a seat. "I'm glad we left Pothy at home with Jyndei with the weather this bad."

The canvas umbrella keeps the worst of it off, but Telamon Lúpecyll-Atlon is already fishing in his haversack for his gyroparasol. "Can't agree with you more, love. If the ward wasn't in place I'd say to hells with it and teleport us home." He pulls out the parasol, but doesn't open it. "We can wait a bit though, see if it lets up."

Standing next to his wife, Tel reaches out with his free hand to take hers, smiling at her and tilting his head ever so slightly, eyes sparkling.

What would leave someone out in this miserable weather? Why, a chance to make a profit on the miserable weather, of course. Unfortunately, it also had an effect of making less people get outside to be potential customers, but Schara would not be dissuaded so easily. off to the side of the plaza and out of the way of most of the businesses was a simple folded table, with an equally simple, small jewelry rack set on top of it, accompanied by a sign reading:

TEMPERATURE REGULATING AMULETS
GUARANTEED TO PROTECT YOU FROM THE COLD FOR TWENTY FOUR HOURS MAXIMUM. ONE GOLD EACH

Behind the sign was a brown haired elf looking completely unprepared for and unbothered by the cold, in a purple sun dress that looked more at home in the middle of summer than the freezing winter rain. They look over, blink once, and attempt to smile. "You both seem to not be enjoying the weather currently, could I interest either of you in an amulet to protect from it? It will not do much for the rain, but at least you will not be uncomfortably cold." They offer quietly.

Rain, sleet, snow, glaciers... Most any form of water falling from the sky can be uncomfortable. The wind and cold tend to only make it that much moreso. Despite this, Aya descends from the path up the mountain, minimal fur wrappings seeming to keep her less-uncomfortable enough to remain surefooted as she moves.

Cor'lana's eyes similarly sparkle as she looks up at Telamon, her hand in his. She gives his hand a soft squeeze before she looks in the direction of the brown-haired elf, curious. "Oh!" she says, her violet eyes scanning the table and the jewelry. "Ahh, well, it's not particularly the cold that's bothering me--I can't actually feel it that much--it's just the dampness of the rain and how hard it's coming down?"

She looks back up at Telamon. "But... Maybe you'd like the look of the jewelry? You have a better head for fashion than I do, at any rate." She doesn't yet seem to notice Aya.

Telamon smiles back at Cor'lana, before turning his gaze to Schara as well. Deftly, he flips up the gyroparasol, opening it into a canopy for the half-elven couple. The two walk over to where Schara is set up, the parasol broad enough to shield the elf from the rain as well.

"Only one gold?" Telamon arches an eyebrow. "Are they expendable amulets, like a potion? I'm not presuming anything, it just seems unusually inexpensive." He grins. "I can think of a few people I wouldn't mind offering them too. You never know who's going to wind up in a snow drift."

The elf blinks once, and tilts their head. "Are you sure? It's awfully cold out, and wetness can make it even worse, not being able to feel the cold is a common sign of hypothermia. Are you sure you don't need one? You don't need to worry about the price if that's the case." They answer before turning to face Telamon. "Well, they don't cost a whole lot to make, I just can only make so many in a day. And one gold is a lot, it's more than most people make in a day." They answer. "And they only work if you use them here, so they can't be saved for later. I'm sorry, that's not something I've worked out, or if I can even do."

Aya notices the parasols, the sign, then the conversation as she approaches. In that order. "That is a fair price compared to others," she opines from behind the Lúpecyll-Atlons. "Possibly a steal, even, for some." Only after does she step around the parasoled pair of souls to look to the vendor and her wares. "I don't suppose that you offer any wards against fiends? Or step-mothers?"

"I'm really sure," Cor'lana replies with a small, slightly bashful smile. "Sorry. Tel and I are more resistant to the cold than the average person happens to be. Comes with magic in the blood." The last sentence is said as smoothly as the rest. "The talent, you know."

Then comes Aya's voice. "Stepmothers?" Cor'lana asks with a raised brow, turning to face Aya. "I knew about the fiends, but... Stepmothers? I can commiserate, although mine's recently deceased." She sounds hardly any troubled about that last bit.

"But if it helps," Telamon picks up the thread where Lana left off, "I'll be happy to spread the word, miss. An inexpensive charm against the chill -- or one that protects against the heat, during the summer months -- could be a godsend to those who have to go out in the weather." He smiles broadly at Schara. "And yes, while one gold is expensive, so is having to recover from illness or worse."

His eyes shift to Aya, and he winces. "Family troubles. Never much fun. Even if you're not related, you get involved when it's someone you care about."

"I don't know what talent you're talking about, but magic is broad, so at least it makes sense." Schara nods once. "If you're certain you don't need it, that's alright, I can sell it to someone else, probably. You can spread the word, but I don't do this every day, and I usually change locations to see where is best anyways, so it might cause more trouble to tell people about me than not."

And there was another potential customer, and Schara turned her attention mul-ward. "I do try to make sure the prices are as reasonable as I can, while still leaving room for people to lower the price if needed. I can probably go as low as one gold piece, honestly." The master businesswoman responds, before tilting their head. "I could maybe do something to keep extraplanar creatures away if I thought about it, but I wouldn't be comfortable offering such a service, since I have no guarantee it would work. And, step mother? I don't know why you would want to keep them away, or if I'd feel comfortable selling such a thing. And, oh, I'm sorry to hear about your loss, miss Ravenstongue."

"Quite alright," Aya offers the vending elf a casually dismissive wave. "I didn't expect to find either, and I no long know which might be worse. I will take as many as you deem fit," she offers up a purchase, placing a platinum upon the stand, "for those in need of them. I do not, but I do know of homelessness."

She then nods to Telamon before looking to Cor'lana. "He... they, have left the city, though I have a strong idea of where they go. I yet need your aid."

"It's fine," Cor'lana says, although there's a flicker of something dark in her eyes. "I didn't know her very long, and she wasn't exactly a good person."

The remark that Aya makes about the needy causes Cor'lana to nod emphatically. "That's a good idea," she says. "This is no season to be out with no home." Her eyes latch onto Aya's, giving her another nod and a look that says without saying, 'I will aid you.' "We can discuss that matter at our home, where it's safer."

Telamon nods in unison with Cor'lana. "Absolutely. We can plan there." He smiles at Aya reassuringly. "Things may seem bleak, but we can find a way, Aya. Don't fear." His expression is warm and confident. A little too confident? Perhaps, but then again, he's not known for ignoring the call of a friend.

"In any case, please, accept our hospitality." His eyes twinkle. "It may seem odd in places, but I assure you our home is a haven for those in need."

Schara blinks in surprise at the platinum piece, and picks it up, before putting it away in a small pocket in the dress. "Are you sure? This is a lot of money, I can give you nine gold pieces back, or nine gold pieces and nine silver if you need." The elf answers. "You don't need to worry, I don't have a home, but I can sleep in the artificer's guild or rent a room if I need to, so I'm not without shelter usually."

"Oh, and of course, the necklace, right." They continue, trying to make sense of the other conversation going on, and deciding it was best to not butt into for the time being. She pulls a brass chain with a small flame shaped pendant on it, and hands it to Aya, where the pendant glows for a few seconds, leaving the monk pleasantly warm in spite of the weather.

Aya nods to her fellow browsers before turning back to Schara. "I am certain. I-" She pauses as the other mentions she has a place to stay and frowns, then is handed the pendant. Aya begins to open her mouth and yet the item is activated, causing her to pause again. ".. Thank you. I meant that I did not have need of it, but there are surely others in the city who do and could not afford it. The purchase was for them, as many as you might find or deem fair for the amount." She exhales a breath. "Charity is not my strongest talent, it seems."

Cor'lana smiles brightly at the gesture that Aya has provided. "Well," she says, "I think it was a good gesture, anyway."

As she says that, the icy rain lightens up a little--apparently the sky has decided to relent a little, or maybe it's just briefly running a tissue across its eyes before more 'tears' come down. She looks up at Telamon. "I think that might be a good sign to go home," she says. "Get in and out of the rain while we still can." She tilts her head a little, her violet eyes twinkling.

Telamon nods, his eyes gentle. As the rain begins to subside somewhat, he tilts his head to peer out from under the parasol. "Indeed. Remember that no good deed is missed in the eyes of the gods." He grins. "And sometimes they make a point to reward such."

He reaches out to lightly touch Schara's arm. "If you have need of work," he says quietly, "I understand that there are some newly blooded adventurers making their name here. They may be in need of something more substantial -- and costly." With that, he takes Lana's hand, and the two begin to move away, intent on evading the rain.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you wanted one for yourself, since, I guess you said you weren't in need of one after, but it seemed like you wanted one." The elf sighs. "I think I recognize you, and it doesn't mean that you need your money any less, but I imagine a legendary hero like yourself has a lot of gold. So, If it's alright, It's my mistake, but could I charge you one for the amulet I gave you? And if it was two silver per amulet, since I wouldn't be able to sell them for the days I made them for more, I could make forty five amulets, giving away five a day for that time being. Is that alright?"

"I don't make too many substantial things, but I'll help out where I can, maybe on some more jobs." The elf nods as they are pat on one of their wooden arms. "But I've kept you long enough and you should get going while the rain is gone."

That causes Aya's lips to curl up on one side in slender, if lopsided, smile. "No need to apologize and that is more than acceptable. Do not exhaust yourself in the process, of course." Her expression then turns further wry. "I doubt legendary is anything close to the proper term. If anything, infamous would be more applicable." The mirth bleeds away with that and she nods. "I should be off, yes. Thank you for your time." It's only then that she recalls to offer Telamon and Cor'lana a belated gesture of farewell.
