  • Title: Karen's Aftermath
  • Emitter: Dolan
  • Place: A10 - Temple of Daeus
  • Summary: Auranar goes to find Dolan to make sure he's not in trouble for what he did to the not-so-nice lady. Andelena is also there and is a bit bemused to find out what happened, offering her own input and opinion on the woman and what happened to Auranar. The conversation goes until Auranar leaves and the Daeusites depart to pursue extracurricular activities.

The temple of the Sun Lord glitters golden beneath the same. Rather than walls, the majority of the temple is composed of what appears at first blush to be a raised round platform made of one of the largest slabs of marble likely in existence. Columns rise into the air as if to hold some massive ceiling, though instead of a normal ceiling, one finds the deep blue sky, studded by a disconcertingly close canopy of bright stars. One should not worry, however, as the rain never falls, and the wind never blows on this particular temple, but for a gentle breeze, whatever the weather outside may be.

Despite the austerity of the columns, warmth suffuses the grounds. A grand, marble statue of the Shining Knight stands a the center, a hand outstretched in benediction. Beside Him, the statue of Althea, their hands clasped in love. The central position of the temple to the others gives view to all of their children, and the two look upon one another with the solemnity of love that has been the center of so many tales and legends.

Masterfully designed mana lamps provide further soft, golden lightning where needed, their pedestals carved in the form of the Dragons of Light, over which Daeus is said to have dominion in His form of Draco Solis. Majesty, justice, and welcome suffuse the temple grounds. Around the central temple are a series of smaller buildings, each with a simple function and form. One houses the sacred book depicting some of the earliest known translations of the Laws of Light, which pilgrims from near and far come to visit. Another houses the well-appointed quarters of the Sunguards, and among all the ground bristle the Sunblades.

The temple district is still crowded, especially near the temple of Eluna, given all of the spellcasters struggling with nasty dreams of late. Dolan has been no exception to this, but had been assigned to guard duty that morning at the temple, an effort to help out the beleaguered sister temple. He stands now in the middle of the courtyard in front of Sunblade Zein, attired in a white mantle over his breastplate, pinned with both a sunburst and a crescent and sphere. He stands straight and tall, and wears a very slightly sheepish smile.

"Yes, I did tell her she was behaving like an unruly mare," he is saying, "but never did I call her one, sir. If I wanted to call her something, it would have been the dog, and that was before she tried to punch me and got the other lady."

A familiar Sunguard arrives, her own white cloak waving a little from the cold wind that blows in from the west. She looks almost incandescent in the sun--

If you were being romantic about it, that is. The armor's doing almost all of the work for her in that regard.

Andelena catches Dolan's words and explanation. Her eyebrow perks up in curiosity as she walks a little closer and within Dolan's field of vision, crossing her arms and offering him a little bit of a grin.

It's a silent question that her expression asks: 'what the fuck did you get yourself into?'

Walking into the temple of Daeus with a tired on her face, is an elvish woman of dark complexion and black hair that fades to pink at the ends. Her red coat and her red dress make her stand out. She spies immediately the man she is looking for, and heads toward him. Though she notes a woman heading toward him as well and this - almost - stimies her. Still, she steels herself and heads toward Dolan.

Dolan, too, looks tired, dark circles underneath his one eye, shadows amid the scarring on the other side, and he stands at a in a relaxed parade-rest which is as close as he ever gets to anything formal. Zein, meanwhile, simply snorts laughter at Dolan's choice of language. "Yeah, you probably hadn't ought to have said that, but we talked to a few other petitioners who saw the whole thing. There's no denying she was more than a little wild, and if she was threatening to harass the Seers, I'd say you did the right thing, in the end. Is the other-"

That's when Auranar walks up, and he nods immediately, turning to her. "Are you all right, miss? I am sorry about the fracas earlier."

Dolan turns to look at Andelena, catching her look and turning that sheepish grin on her. "One of the petitioners was up past her bedtime and threw quite the tantrum," he explains. "I hope she spends a night in the cells for punching Miss Auranar." His eyes don't flick towards Auranar, but he does jerk his chin at her, apparently he did see her.

"Damn," Andelena remarks. Honestly, she herself has the slight look of tiredness, but she seems to refuse to show it. Her face carries as much of her usual liveliness as ever, and the look of concern she gives the wild elf woman. Her voice takes on a friendly and approachable sense of compassion as she asks, "How hard did she clock you? You feeling alright? I don't care how tired you are, that doesn't give you a free pass to go around giving people an excuse to get golden teeth."

Andelena shakes her head. "We have order and laws for a reason, damn it. People oughta remember that from time to time."

Auranar offers a curtsy to the guard whom she remembers. "I appreciate your help Sir Zein. I am alright." She glances toward Andelena and has the grace to look embarrassed by the questioning. "She hit me pretty hard all things considered, but I'm alright like I said. Really it more surprised me than anything. She wasn't aiming for me." She glances at Dolan here, noticing that he'd found her just fine in spite of her being more on his blind side.

"I came more to make sure that Dolan didn't get in trouble for anything. Things would have been much worse if he hadn't been around." This is said with some small certainty. She is sporting a rather red cheek after all, and that alone is proof enough of how bad things had gotten in the first place.

"No, no. We don't ask perfect diplomacy of people like Dolan," Zein explains with a shake of the head. "That woman tried to hit me in the ribs, I've got no sympathy for her. It's exactly like the Sunguard says," and he nods to Andelena. "We have law and order for a reason, and there is no excuse for behavior like that. I'm glad she didn't get him," he adds with a small frown. "If you're sure you're all right - Auranar, is that your name? I can ease that for you, you need only ask."

Dolan, meanwhile, turns more fully towardds Auranar. He had, apparently, seen her or at least recognized her, but the green gem glints in the eyesocket, in its ring. "Thank you. I'm all right, nothing more than pulled a little. Andie, it's a mess over there, and everyone being short of sleep doesn't help. We should see if there's anything we can do."

"That woman put a hand on you too?" Andelena asks, her steel-gray gaze earning its metallic moniker as it turns into a glare as she turns her head to address Dolan's story. "She better be thankful that I wasn't there, else I might have returned the favor."

But then her glare subsides and she gives Auranar a nod and a small smile. "Don't worry about him," she says. "Sweet of you to, but I've had his back since we were teenagers. He couldn't get rid of me if he tried."

There's a knowing note in her voice as she smirks. Then she looks to Dolan and nods. "Yeah, agreed. Least we can do is be a wall if anyone starts throwing fists again."

Auranar seems to seriously consider the sunguards question then after a moment nods. "Alright. I didn't want to bother the Eluna's with it, but if it doesn't cost you anything I'll accept." She turns her attention on the pair beside her. "I'm glad he has such a stalwart woman to keep an eye on him."

Here she grins at Dolan a little and lightly laughs. "In truth I think I wasn't very much help at all today. The Eluna's sent me off with the impression that they already knew everything I had to say..." She trails off with a sigh and looks at them. "I really appreciate the work you are doing, both of you. Keeping the peace in times like this isn't easy."

Something about the joke Andelena cracks makes Dolan duck his head, his cheeks coloring without warning, and when he laughs, it's just a little uncomfortable. "She went for me. Auranar stepped in and got punched," he explains. "I had to restrain her until she could be turned over. I'm fine."

Zein nods and removes a gauntlet, holding it with his other hand while he lays the bared one across Auranar's face, just barely touching her. A swift prayer, and the area under the hand glows with golden light, warming her and removing all trace of the welt. "His mercy follow you," he tells her as the hand lowers.

"We'll do whatever we can to help," Dolan looks over, and up, at Andelena, and again, there's that warmth, that melting, a look of adoration that is almost puppyish.

Upon hearing that, Andelena looks to Auranar and says, "Thank you for taking a punch for Bry--although I'm very sorry you had to endure getting slugged on his behalf," she says. "Seriously."

Is it possible for Andelena to look bashful at getting praised? Andelena just straightens her back out a tad more. She's tall anyway, but it does put a slight emphasis on how she's taller than Dolan. "We're just doing what we were sworn to do. Frankly, I'd take one itty-bitty little lady slugging me in the face about ten-thousand times and have to limp back to the clerics to have them rearrange my nose before I let a citizen get hurt, but that's just my style."

Finally, Andelena looks down at Dolan gives him a little smile and a pat on his cheek. The puppy gets a pat today. "We'll take care of it all together. Just let me take the hits this time, damn it."

Once the sunguard has backed away Auranar touches her own cheek as if to make sure that the injury is gone before nodding to herself. Indeed, she will not suffer a bruise later which is probably for the best. She smiles broadly at Andeleana. "Some of us civilains feel the same way. Wouldn't want to see you guys get too beat up protecting us. Who'd do the job then?"

Her eyes flicker momentarily to Dolan, and she seems reminded of something. "Well, if he's not in trouble I should probably be on my way so that the pair of you can get back to what you were doing." She nods her head low to the three servants of Daeus and turns.

"When I take the hits, they get looked at, Andie." Dolan bristles at something said, but Zein shakes his head. "No, he's not. His light follow you, and thank you again." Zein, too, politely excuses himself as well, leaving the two of them to stand there. "She was going to hit me from behind, Andie," he explains when the both of them have left. "I don't like that she got hurt. You know I hate when people hit women."

Andelena nods to Auranar as she departs. "Walk in the light," she says in farewell to the elf and to the Sunblade as well, a little smile on her face.

Then she turns back to Dolan. She puts her hand on Dolan's shoulder. "I didn't mean to imply you liked it or that you let her get hit, Bry. Just trying to keep my cool in front of the Sunblade," she says. "/Damn/ is it hard to keep from swearing when all you want to do is go right the fuck off. Seriously, though, Bry--if I'd been there..."

She sighs. "I've been saying that shit too much lately. 'If I'd been there'. I feel like I oughta glue myself to you at the hip or something."

"Andie..." Dolan looks up, one hand reaching up to twirl itself in her hair. "As much as I'd like to have you with me every hour or every day, that's not possible, and we both know it. I'm a big boy. I can take care of myself, too, and ... I've promised I won't leave again. And I won't. If I get in over my head, I swear I'll warn you, and we'll figure it out. All right?"

Andelena just grins at Dolan. "It was a raunchy joke, farmboy," she says, and she reaches up to ruffle his hair playfully as she's always done. "Maybe you'll get them one day."

She leans in and kisses him on the forehead. "I know you won't leave again. Kinda did that whole dramatic kill-all-demons pact-swearing thing in the hospital and all."

The Sunguard pats his hair down smooth again. At least she has the kindness to fix his hair. "And yes. I do know you're a big boy." She winks, and she breaks off from him. "Should we go head over to the Temple now?"

"Sounds as if maybe we should head somewhere else." Dolan colors only a little, but his grin at her is at least a mile wide. "That is, if you've the time, and you're up for it...." The raunchy jokes - both of them - tell him all he needs to know about her mind on the matter, his tone is - inviting. "I've a few hours free."

"I always have time. Especially when you wear the eyepatch," Andelena says, taking his hand with a grin wide enough to match his. "C'mon. We gotta do something with all this sleep we're missing, after all."

The Daeusites go elsewhere for a little light.
