Mictlan, Midday

After some traveling, a night at Wayfarer's, and an arrival at just before the hottest part of the day, the time has come. The sky is clear, the sun brilliant. And the hot stones that reside in Mictlan have several makari, young and old, flopped over and sprawled out.

However, there's a purpose today. A personal spa day. And what better for cold blooded folks than what lays before them.

Dropping off a small satchel to the side is that of a red scaled makari, white scales smattered across their throat and front. They're in nothing more than silk cyan pants, their long and feather tipped tail swaying happily from side to side, as they slough back a mane of quills atop their head. "Ez, dah-ling, we're here!" the woman sibilantly declares.

Rather amusingly, the witch looked much less out of place than the actual sith-makar. Eztli still had on their large robes which obscured a lot of them, and she didn't look entirely at ease in the area as she wandered in a bit behind the transmogrified egalrin.

"Yeah, we are! It's around where I remembered it being." The small makari chuckles. "Still kind of surprised you wanted to do something like this, really."

The duo gets several looks from others. With how small Eztli is, and how outlandish Makari-Slix is. But they slowly go back to relaxing. After the festival, the weirdness of outlanders has been a more commonplace, especially on this side of the portal.

"What do ya mean, ssugar?" she grins, pulling a blanket out of her bag and fanning it open. "I love relaxin' and learnin' 'bout stuff. C'mon! Take a rock! Dress down! Do a flop!"

The transmogrified egalrin does exactly that. The blanket gets thrown over a heat stone, and soon after, the red/white scaled makari lands on it with arms outstretched. There's a hiss of air sucked in, and she melts into the stone. "... oh my Ceiwen, I get it..." she blissfully murmurs.

"Well, I don't know. Took me a while to get used to it, I guess?" The small makari shrugs, taking a look at one of the rocks and doffing their robes, gently, as they still had a certain rattle to them with whatever was stowed in the pockets. The small makari flops onto their back and stretches out wide on the stone, anchoring in place with their claws. "Kind of like a sauna, but, I think I like this better." Eztli laughs.

Slix hums. "Mind you, th' first time I tried bein' something else, I did a smoothskin human woman. So I can understand the discombobulation. But I uh, did so very willingly, and with an academic mind. I also love otha' cultures, so, what better way ta learn?"

She rolls over on her back, tufted tail swaying back and forth, sweeping dirt as a happy churr rumbles in her chest. "Oh it's great when ya ain't got self-regulating body heat. Man... I feel it seeping into everything..."

"That what you look like at those bars, or a different human?" The small makari asks, craning their neck over from their comfortable position, and sticking their tongue out. "Completely academic process and reasoning, I'm sure." Eztli teases, the small makari closing her eyes. "Well, it's not like you're going to collapse in the snow or anything, but, yeah, weird how it makes you feel exhausted, yet full of energy. Maybe more energy to lounge in place, I guess."

Makari slix sticks their tongue out at Eztli in retaliation. "Look hon, I had ta go fo' the most different physically ta get used ta all the shiftin'." A pause. "... aaaaand I wanted ta look super cute." She giggles. "Different human. The one at the TarRaCe is just for the TarRaCe."

"Yeah. It's great," she hums. "Like a... midday nap. Shoo'. I wanna get up and join ya ova there, but I don't even have the energy ta peel off of this."

"Well, what was it like, going from an egalrin to a human?" The small makari wonders out loud. "Must have been odd the first time."

Eztli tilts their head, and sticks their tongue out again in Slixvah's direction. "What, am I not worth working up the energy for getting up?" They chuckle. "Could flop over there in a moment if that's the case."

Slix squints across the way, quills bristling up. "Is that a challenge?" she chuffs. With great effort, she grunts, arms wobbling. But the quills animate, shoving herself up and to her feet. Legs wobble as she takes a few steps over to Eztli's rock.

And she flops down beside the mixed scale. "There!"

She exhales languidly. "Well, ta answer ya question, it was really, really weird. Missin' two limbs since I ain't got no wings. One voice box. No talons! Lips are weird! And you have these... things! In the way!" she elaborates, waving at her front. "I mean I was cute as hell, but still! I couldn't walk, and couldn't talk fo' nothin'."

Eztli looks up lazily from her rock, and the small makari grins up to her friend, scooting over on the rock to make space. The muddy scaled makari claps for a moment, and pats the other makari's shoulder. "It was a challenge, and it worked!" They chuckle. "Hey, they don't get in the way if you're careful!"

"I don't know how you would use two voice boxes, but I guess it makes up for no lips? Gods, it took a while to get used to talking."

Slixvah sprawls out next to Eztli, the pat on the shoulder is met with a a tail swinging around to lazily curl around Eztli's. "Yuh, I learned that after a while. It's nice, learned to like it after a while." She blinks, then gives a raspy laugh. "I mean all of it, not just the tits. I learned that no matter what end up being, it's still /me./"

She closes her eyes. ".. but, I have a fat ego, so that kinda helps."

There's a snicker. "Yeah, ain't got no lips. Bein'a makari is like... half the words come from ya chest. Very growly. I like it. What was hard for ya ta get used ta?"

Eztli chuckles, her tail swaying along and taking Slixvah's with it. "Well, you know, they are enjoyable!" The small makari laughs, though it trails into a sigh. "I, yeah, that, kind of, but I'm still getting used to being me again. I might miss things, but I don't mind being this, and well, me."

"You do have a fat ego, but you have reason for it to be bigger than average to begin with, so it isn't that bad."

"Well, no lips, tongue is a different shape, you have to mind how you're holding your mouth open. Can't brace your tongue against your teeth for any noises, either, but you're used to that, aren't you?"

Slix hums warmly, scooting next to her friend to lay right beside her as tails swoop together. From her scent, and her positively melted stature on the rock, she looks like she's truly relaxed. "Oh yes. Yes they are," she giggles. The red and whitescale reaches over lazily, patting Eztli's head. "It's okay hon. We all have parts of us tha' we miss. And in time, you'll find parts of yaself tha' you'll like loads. Like-- look at that face! And those colors!" She smiles. Then mildly sighs. "But-- don't force ya'self. It's grieving in its own way, you know?"

She snickers. "Yeah! And th' reason is I'm th' coolest bird around!"

Some makari look over.

"Err. Kin!"

They go back to laying down.

Not Slix phews. "Yuh. No lips and different mouth shape. I am used ta that. And, well, I don't really use my tongue a ton. Th' double voice boxes pretty much do all the work. So, ugh, I was being really slobbery with a lotta sounds!" she giggles.

The small makari squints as their head is pat, and Eztli tries to stick their tongue out again, but it's half hearted, and followed by a sigh. "Yeah, lot of things to be happy about with myself. You know, I'm still cute to some people, just different. Having a tail isn't so bad, and you're right, I'm no walking lava floe, but I'm pretty colorful." The sorceress chuckles.

"Figure of speech, like calling someone a cool cat." She giggles again as some folks look over. "Yeah, I could see that. Some sounds still suck, like trying to say that and not come off with a horrible lisp."

Makari Slix snickers, looking quite happy. "Good. I remember befo' ya hated th' way th' colors go. I'm glad ya see how colorful ya are. Lava boy is hot in his own way," she laughs.

"Mmm. Ye ye. I getcha." The red and white scale rolls her blue eyes. "For real. Like. The 's' sounds are hard, and as a bird, honestly, 'th' sounds are hard. Can do it if I focus."

"Well, not entirely sure." The small makari shrugs, letting herself just lounge on the rock and splay out. "I guess I was just too focused on what I thought was wrong with me. Don't look muddy, at least."

"Yeah, you were saying, Slix." The small makari chuckles, seeming a lot more relaxed. "I'd say you're good at talking, you could manage it. It's a bit of a struggle for me, you know? Maybe I'm just trying too hard to think how I'm talking should be a different way. Hey, you're happy, right?" She asks abruptly, giving the not egalrin another look. "You smell happy, least I'm pretty sure."

Slixvah continues the metronome of tails. "Lots wrong with everyone. Everyone's got flaws. But that's what makes people beautiful, yeah?"

"Oh, yes. I am /very/ good at talkin'," Slix grins, closing her eyes. "It's what I did fo' my Aerie fo' my left. Diplomacy."

There's a pause. The happy scent mixed with surprise. "Yeah! I am. Why do you- ooooh, the smells! Right? It's right hard ta figure out, still even fo' me."

"Well, maybe. I like to not focus on people's flaws when I like them, maybe I'm not understanding that's a part of them, too. Not saying anything bad about you or anyone with that, though." The small makari chuckles, letting her tail sway back and forth with Slixvah's. "You are good at talking, I'm real lucky I had a friend like you building me back up even if you had to drag me kicking and screaming sometimes."

The small makari sniffs at the air one more time, and grins. "Yeah! Well, happy? Relaxed? They smell different, but it's hard to tell." She answers, sounding a bit uncertain. It's, complicated, but I'm getting a bit used to it, kind of thing like telling a guy from a gal that takes time. Maybe since I've been spending more time around makari? Hard to say."

Makari Slix rumbles. "Gotta accept th' whole person, all the bads and the goods. Oh no, there's some bad 'bout me, I ain't gonna lie 'bout that." She opens her eyes, crinkling in a smile. "I'm glad! And I will absolutely drag your cute rear to make sure you see the greatness in ya."

"Mmmm. Spend mo' time wit' th' makari. Took me a long while to figure out. Still muss it up from time to time. It's very subtle fo' sure. But jus' trust ya gut, it works better," Slix explains. "Ri' now, I'm pickin' up a base of relaxation, a layer of happy, and a frosting of confusion."

"Well, maybe, but I guess it's inconsequential." Eztli shrugs. "Thanks Slix, appreciate having someone to hang out with and try new things with, I've been feeling down lately, but it's better, and better about myself every day."

"Well, I'm not sure really, not sure how much of it is learning, and just understanding what I already should? Like, it's weird. You're right, but I didn't even realize that was going on at first."

"Least it's nice, being able to understand others. And it's easier to tell if someone is in to you, too." Eztli laughs.

Slixvah nods, lazily turning over to give Eztli a hug. "You are oh so very welcome, anytime ya feelin' down, hit me up, I'll prop ya up," she rumbles.

The redscale hums. "It's mo' a gut feelin' and askin' if ya feelin' is right." She blinks. Then laughs. "Oh yes. Very, very easy. It's different, but it makes things both more difficult and easier."

Eztli returns the hug and pulls her fellow makari in close, before she rolls back onto her back. "Noted, and the same, you know? What kind of friend am I if you can't rely on me if you need sometimes, too?" Eztli chuckles quietly to herself. "Well, gut feeling is tricky sometimes, but I should trust in myself more." She agrees. "Complicated and not, you're right. Still, it's a bit of a morale boost regardless sometimes, you know?"

Not Slixvah hums. "Yuh. I'll keep tha' in mind when I'm feelin blue. Thankfully, had some other friends pick me up. Next time tho', I'll flop inta ya arms," she giggles.

The sun reaches its apex, and Slix's limbs become rubber as she's half bent backwards against the rock, stuck to it. "Oh totally. I love it when I get hit on, makes me feel right pretty."

"Just give me a shout, I'll be there to catch you and pick you back up." Eztli grind, letting herself join Slixvah in melting against the rock. "It's something I haven't really felt enough for a long while, so it is nice." She agrees. "Course you should feel that way since you are right pretty, I think I just realized I need to feel better about myself before I could accept other people saying the same."

Slix gives a small thumbs up against the rock, a scent of appreciation wafting on by. "Thanks, hon," she rumbles. The emotion of joy drifts by, followed by mild smugness. "Why that is much appreciated, Ezzie. But that is right true; gotta love yaself. And believe me, took me a right while ta get that locked my in skull."

She faces the sky, closing her eyes as a free hand snakes over to find Eztli's and hold onto it. The redscale is firmly stuck in relaxation. "... mmm... I... think a nap is... is in order..." she yawns.

"You know, it's hard to imagine a time where you weren't so put together, Slix. But you do live a real long time." The small makari muses, taking the hand and holding onto it gently, and humming quietly to herself. "Nap sounds good, might be the best part of coming out to these stones." Eztli chuckles quietly, stifling a contagious yawn. "Why not, pleasant dreams, Slix." She adds, closing her eyes and slowly dozing off.
