  • Title: Creating No Fun In The Woods Part 2
  • GM: Whirlpool
  • Place: Felwood, Elunan Spires
  • Summary: Two groups of adventurers fight over who has the legitimate job to be there. Conflict ensues.

Eztli stopped near the top of the stairs, and the small makari shakes their head. "That's, oh, gods damn it all, that's why they came here unannounced." They grumble out loud, glancing to the others. "They're going to ruin this forest out of greed, and who knows what might happen if it's destroyed. Think we can reason with them? Even if they're greedy, I really don't want to just kill a bunch of people over something like this."

Victor nods quickly. "It would only be proper to warn them first." He glances around to make sure everyone seems ready.

Aelwyn pauses near Eztli, peering over her towards the adventurers. "Hmmh. She is not wrong." The draconian agrees, pulling back. "Yet this one agrees, it would be difficult to explain why we have corpses instead of fellow adventurers returning to the guild." He leans the spear against his neck, watching the goblins go at it. "... though why this cursed place specifically?"

"I mean, we can *hope,*" Magpie says to Eztli, shrugging. Tottering up the stairs to stand next to Eztli, the blond gnome cups her hands around her mouth, and does her best impression of an annoyed Proctor catching students painting rude pictures on the school's statuary.

"Oi! You down there! You know when they say 'no job too small,' that don't mean 'too shady' too! Or did you not find out if you had Mythwood's backing on this little lark?"

Stepping just a bit forward, she clears her throat, then looses another shout. "Point is, if you stop *now,* you'll probably not have to find out what happens when an entire forest is pissed off at *you, specifically!*"

Thoth follows with the rest of the group, trying to hurry with them. It doesn't know what would bring Veterans of such a place to simple 'looting'. But then, Adventurers do come in all sorts, and some of them are known to be on the more... negative side of things. There's a reason people eye Adventurers with some wariness.

Once Magpie begins to step forward, Thoth stands next to Magpie in its small stature, hands at its hips, trying to reinforce her shout by giving them a /mean look/.

It's trying its very best.

Victor walks up next to Magpie on the other side, a strange contrast as his armor unfolds and snaps into place, granting him a few more inches in height.

There's a startled yelp and something starts falling from the top of the spire down towards you. Looks like a wrench.

Aelwyn steps out as well, casually walking with his glaive held relaxed across his shoulder. "Yeah, beat it." He languidly tells the would-be looters with a upward motion of his hand, following up with a sharp, macabre looking grin. "Before something worse than us wakes up and eats you all."

"And we are very ba-" The wrench clatters down, and the Dragoon stops to stare at it, slowly stepping out of its way. "... they are dismantling, really?" He hisses to the rest of the party.

"...Less than they were a second ago," Magpie says to Aelwyn, eyeing the wrench. "Okay y'know what that's a *great start!* How about now you just, like, come on down already, okay? Last thing anyone wants is a contract-off!"

Eztli blinks a few times, and stares up the stairs, catching up behind Magpie and the others, and not really adding much more in the way of additional threatening height. "You do realize that these towers are part of making sure this place will recover from the curse on it, and are important to the goddess Eluna?" The small makari huffs. "Are you really going to piss off a god, potentially doom this land permanently, and ruin relations with the Mythwood, all for a bit of gold? Who put you up to this thinking it was a good idea, anyways?"

Whirlpool, does anything about what they've done seem like it would have damaged this place's function? From an Artifice or Arcane point of view? (Or Spellcraft, Religion...)"

GAME: Thoth rolls Craft/Artifice+2+2: (10)+15+2+2: 29

Thoth tilts its head about, considering the situation at hand. The technology present. It's a wonderous bit of artifice, but... also very fussy. "This one believes this facility is made for Mana Harvesting. However, it is also easy to break. If they continued for any longer, this facility may have broken down permanently." It notes. Considering things for a moment, it adds; "The Elven skill at Artifice has advanced much since this one's Master's time."

"Not a step closer," calls a voiice form above, a woman's voice.

"As you can clearly see, we have the high ground. I wouldn't reccomend trying anything funny or fancy on that narrow staircase up. In fact, I'd stop coming up together, and let us finish what we came here to do. Could get ugly othjerwise."

The goblin you saw is pulled back onto the platform well above you.

"Oh no," Magpie says faintly, the eyeroll evident in her voice, "they have the high ground, it's like magic doesn't exist, we're doomed..." Blowing out a breath, she glances back at the group. "Welp. Guess it's the hard way. Want me to go ahead and let you know what they've got to work with?"

Thoth warns Magpie; "Do be careful. These are veterans. This one calculates at least a 30 higher likelihood for them to snap bones or hurt their backs, as their average age is well over thirty."

"...What part of doom the felwood, sour relationships with the mythwood, and ruin a shrine of Eluna wasn't clear?" Eztli grumbles a bit more loudly this time. "Not to mention the fact that you're hear supposedly on behalf of one of the guilds, and you're intent on ruining future work for yourselves and others over this."

"I'm not sure if they'll just attack the moment you go forward." Eztli sighs. "This would be much simpler if a group of people came down here to talk before they irreparably damage this tower, and we don't have to forcibly capture, injure or kill you to let people know we dealt with the problem here."

Aelwyn tilts his head. "And what is the use for high when one is about to get flattened?" The Dragoon calls out. "Let us be nice, share a drink! Then fight." Tail sways behind him, "Winner pays for the drinks."

The ruddy sith-makar looks at Magpie and nods his head. "That is a good idea. Try to wait for us before the fight starts."

"We'll be crying all the way to Vandalheim into our sacks of gold coins, I promise you," replies the woman from above. The aforementioned leader of the group, no doubt. "And I said stop. Not a nother move forward." She means it. Theose steps make a silent approach awfully difficult anyway.

"You just hang back there and we'll finish what we came here to do."

Thoth clicks its beak a few times. It normally isn't one to act rashly, or even to act without following orders. It's listening to these 'Adventurers' though, their greed, and for some reason, it's... irritating it. The War Golem bird flicks its head for a moment, tilting its head towards its feathers, pulling off a feather, before looking back again. Clicking the metalic feather within its beak and then suddenly begins to move.

"This behavior is unacceptable. Starting protocol: 'Disciplining Unruly Children'." As it begins to move towards the stairs without fear, trying to get a proper angle on the ones above. Its eyes focused rather intensely.

The moment it's stepped onto the stairs, it puts its small little birdy foot down, and huffs for a moment. It then taps its beak on that feather a few more times, until it suddenly begins to glow. After which it grabs it into its hand, and 'crushes' it into a little red bead...

And blows it towards the 'Veterans'.

"...Vandalheim," Magpie repeats, sighting. "Well *that* explains the dumb. Welp. Be right back."

With a short incantation, Magpie lifts off the ground, feet and hands sheathed in softly humming, light-distorting energies. With another, her entire body dissolves into a yellow-purple mist, that rockets up to the ceiling and crawls rapidly up the tower stairs to the 'veterans.'

It's a good thing she can't speak like this... Because the moment the fireball follows up the stairway, she'd give get position away with a rolling barrage of 'OH SHIT NO NO NO NO NO OKAY I GUESS WE'RE DOING THIS THEN.'

...Maybe some of them will charge down, and she can take advantage of the chaos?

The moment the fireball starts to form and travel towards them, the woman yells 'get down!' and they hit the ground like the well disciplined, well oiled adventurers they are. They know what they're doing, knew what to expect, to some extent. They're singed, some are certainly hurt, others less so. Clearly, they have some resistances. That said, it wasn't exactly like they had a lot of cover even with hitting the metal stairs with a musical clang.

"Remember what we talked about," she tells the goblins, and then she's back on her feet.

"Talk a big game about the damage we coiuld be doing and then try to blow the place up? Typical Alexandrians," she spits.

And just like that, the mist flows back down the staircase, Magpie's physical form resolving into existing with a cartoonish *pop!* of displaced air. "So good job you kept the little ones from working more on the thing, but as *stupid and greedy as they are,*" she calls upstairs, "they've got a point. Maybe don't break the building that seems to affect the temperament of the Felwood? But the heavy hitters are, obviously, occupying the choke point before the landing. I've got some ideas to get them to not, but they're crazy and loud as hell."

Magpie - to be fair, I checked first if it was possible to set up a Fireball without damaging anything about the building."

So saying, Magpie reaches up her sleeve, and there's the crunch-crinkle of paper-mache being pressed down on. The gnome speaks a few ear-twisting syllables, and drops down to rest a hand on Eztli's shoulder.

<< You got this, >> she says, and her words have the timbre of Cosmic Knowledge, providing a surge of confidence and hope.

It is now Warrior Lady's turn! Wizardly Power is next!

Thoth stares at the people who are talking about blowing things up and the damage they could be doing. It then slowly points to the edges of the walls. The gears. The crystals. There's this mathematical beauty about the fact that the only singes and dust and ash covers the places near where they are standing - but avoiding the areas that would harm the tower.

"This one wishes for you to know, that was a 'Warning Shot'. Unlike yourselves, this one knows what it is doing."

As the detonation clears, that red emberous feather is still there, in the air. It looks towards Magpie for a moment. "This one is currently channeling most of its capabilities to ensure that the structural integrity of this building's components are in no way hampered, damaged, or infirmed by this spell."

Followed by that emberous feather floating in the air detonating and engulfing the Veterans in flames once more.

"These foes appear to be particularly resistant to flames. Please note there is a caster." As it backs off a bit so that it is outside of the range of larger area effects.

It is now Wizardly Power's turn! Aelwyn is next!

"A caster? No shit. Try a couple of them," says the commander with a big old smile. She reaches into her pouch, then, and pulls an item from it. Too big for that to be anything but a magical pouch. The item? A vial that she drinks down, leaving her to grow in size. She now dwarfs everyone present. The metal stairs groan ominously.

"Now," she says, "let's get this party started."

One of the goblins winks out of sight after a quickly uttered word.

Aelwyn leans on his toes, watching Magpie go off. "What is Vandalheim-" He begins to - before Thoth just goes off and there's the fireball in the tight cramped spaces. "Hmh, a construct after this one's heart." Towards Magpie, the draconian turns his head. "This one thinks crazy and loud are par for the course here now." He flashes his teeth.

The Dragoon then moves up in front of the party, baring his teeth as he scrapes the end of his glaive along the floor. "Come then! See if one can make it past this one's glaive." He drops down into his combat stance, holding the glaive by his side.

"Gods damn it, I am _trying_ to give you a chance to stand down since I don't have much in the way of non lethal magic." The small makari growls loudly, watching as the fireballs fly through the air. "Most people have a limit to their fire resistance, and it seems they really want to test it." They note to thoth, already conjuring a pair of flaming spears that streak through the air, and slam hard into the large figure in front. "We can stabilize them after the fact if the others stand down at least."

"Yeah, you look REAL interested in standing down when you attacked first," remarks one of the goblins, who casually throws a bomb over the side of the staircase towards Eztli.

Yes, a bomb.

Victor chants a few words in Eldritch. An angry red glow appears in front of him and then coalesces into another fiery spear that streaks off towards the gigantic figure. "Things have escalated regrettably!" he admits. "But there's more at stake here than just gold and riches!" His own ray goes wide and disappears out of sight.
