It's not clear who exactly has hired you three, but you've been brought to a vacant shop in a busy part of town. Given the key, you're able to get inside with no problem. Sitting on a table is a map, beside a letter, which reads:

Good morning adventurers,

This is the Laughing Shadow, a hideout for a new gang in Alexandria, led by a Gnoll named Renginar. This gang has acquired a new magic invention that one of our associates is working on, a microphiltre which has the potential of healing a person in a small, easier to carry package. This package is a small vial of red glass in the shape of a 6 pointed star, on a string.

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to go to the Laughing Shadow, recover the microphiltre, and bring it back to this location for retrieval.

If you or any member of your team are caught, or killed, the secretary of the association will disavow any knowledge of your existence. This map and letter will self-destruct in five minutes. Good luck.

The little goblin woman carrying a small clockwork dog under her arm known as Zinth for those who asked seems to not have any problem going right up to snatch the letter. Only after tugging over a chair and climbing up on it so she can actually see what's there. A glance to the others and she states, "This will take a great deal of concentration and skill. Are you two up to this task?" She seems far more serious than she looks given the way that little clockwork dog is wagging it's tail and it's oddly irregularly glowing eyes make it seem like it isn't exactly fully functioning.

Clunk. Clunk. Clunk. Zenia's arriving in full power armor, death ray attached to her back as she enters the building. "What's our plan of attack?" she asks, "...I mean assuming we have one, I can wing it too."

Rishi in in her usual swathes of cloth as she follows in with the other two. Her arms crossing as she looks over the Gobber's shoulder to read the letter. "Eh? Whatever. Let's just go in there and hit a few things." She punches one hand into the palm of the other and grins. "Or something like that? I mean -- c'mon! All that bit about plans and first meeting and all that, right?" She looks back toward the door, anxious to get started.

Looking back over at Rishi and then Zenia, Zinth furrows her brow a bit. "I...you want to try and take them on?" She's a confident Gobber, but she looks worried. "What about Nuts? What if he gets hurt in the commotion?" She asks as she hands the letter to Rishi, not wanting to hold it when it self destructs. She values her hands!

Even so, the little Gobber crouches down and drops the bag she brough with her, tugging out a rather lithe looking mechanical contraption that she slips on around her shoulders and back. There's a strap on the front she attaches to a d-ring on the dog's back so he can just hang there while the arcanist finishes strapping into her armor. "But if you want to hit stuff...well, I'm not liable for anything that catches on fire."

Rishi shrugs, "I'm game if you have a better idea." Another smile and she looks between Zenia and Zinth, "Or - ya know - just go with the 'hit stuff' approach. Either or!"

"Woo! OK." Zenia says, vaulting over the edge of a window and charging towards the warehouse. "KNOCK KNOCK YOU CLOWNS!" she calls out, death ray deatched from her armor as she shoulder-barges at the door of the warehouse itself.

To the side, Zinth looks at Rishi and notes, "I like her enthusiasm, but I'm afraid that I think we're gonna die." She sighs and starts after, sort of petting Nuts as she goes, but also apparently flipping some tiny switches on the clockwork dog's back. "And I don't have any insurance to take care of Nuts when I'm gone." She muses as she flips a final switch on the dog, causing his mouth to open and an ominous glow to start radiating from a hole where his throat would be if he were a real dog. "Alright, Nuts. You ready to go to work?"

Having talked themselves into doing it, the team leaves the shop, locking up behind them as instructed, and making thier way across the river toward the Laughing shadow. Once they get into the right neighborhood, the map's instructions are clear enough, and it's visible.

The building is accessible at the end of an alley, sandwiched between a blacksmith and a stable. Noise and smells, all day long, covering for whatever happens in the literally shadowed alley here.

The building being surrounded by other buildings, it seems that the sliding barn door (it was formerly a barn, it appears) at the end of the alley is the only way in or out of the place.

Pausing at the entrance of the alley, Zinth looks back at the others and shrugs. "How bad could it be? I mean, it's a barn, right? They're made of wood. Wood burns. So, in all likelihood this place is going to end up burning down and there will be tons of collateral damage." There is a look given to the stable and the blacksmith, "They're probably owned by the gang. So they're bad shops anyway...right?"

"We're here for the gang members, not for the shops." Zenia calls back, "Keep it as focused as you can."

"Actually we're here for the microphiltre, not the gang." Zinth replies, rolling her eyes. "I'm concerned about collateral damage to innocent people's livelihoods." She remarks as she starts to follow after Zenia.

"Yeah, pretty sure Zinth is right." Rishi nods toward the Gobber, giving a shrug, "We're here for the micro filler or whatever it was. The red, cure potion, thing." she starts moving her shoulder around in a circle one way and then the other, getting a little warmed up before pulling the staff free from her back.... just in case.

The party makes their way down the alley. Zenia and Zinth are quiet, making their way to the door without incident. But poor Rishi: Rishi has an unfortunate loss of footing while trying to be careful, tripping, and bursting right into the barn.

The barn roughly appears as it did in the map: Three long tables going from front to back, with a long table in the rear of the barn, with chests of treasture stashed in the corner. The recent acquisition, the microphiltre, is visible there, right on top.

Also visible are four gnolls: one in back behind the head table, one guarding the treasure, andtwo flanking the door. All are armed with spears, and have been alerted to the presence of the party.

Seeing Rishi bumble into the barn doors, Zinth lets out a little shriek when the gnolls start to advance. One might think she's never seen combat before! Especially with the way she starts to run! But instead of away, the little Gobber dashes inside and under one of the tables on the right clutching her little clockwork dog to her as she goes.

And then, Zenia actually seems to find a shred of common sense and ducks off to the side past the door peeking out at the gnolls. The ray's chamber rotates and shows not a light blue, but a reddish-orange as a line of burning energy flies out towards the one that appears to be the largest!

Seeing the small one running at his treature, Renginar breaks out into a sprint to guard it! He's now standing between the gob and the goodies!

"I think we can do this nice and quiet." Rishi is whispering, and nodding her he-ACK! She feels her pant leg catch on something making her jerk her leg which ends up kicking the back of her left calf and that's how she shoulder tackles the barn doors open while dropping her staff with a clatter. "Euuuhhh... Special delivery? Sticks?" She gives an arch of her brows and the gnolls are already coming toward her. "Woh! Ack!" She ducks one way putting her hands up, "Hey now!" And another step to the side, stumbling back and putting her in front of one of the Gnolls.

"Stop that!" She steps in with a fast jab that's meant to disrupt him, the next was a swift pivot of her foot and a slam of an elbow into his jaw that was quickly followed by a cross punch and a dodge backward. "Fine! We aren't here to deliver sticks!"

The Gnolls are on the move. Green sashed Gnoll swings at Rishi, whiffs AGAIN at the tricky monk, and then takes a step back. His black-hatted comrade sprints over to stand side by side with him to assist.

Darting between the table legs and the chairs under the table, Zinth pauses at the sight of the large gnoll up ahead. Narrowing her eyes the little Gobber lifts up Nuts and points the clockwork dog's mouth at the gnoll and growls through grit teeth, "Bow-wow motherwuffer!" And she pulls on Nuts' tail, causing a bright flash as a greenish blue beam shoots out of the dog's mouth and burns into Renginar!

Seeing the other gnolls close in on Zinth, Zenia swivels around and fires on the gnoll in the black hat. "Ohhhh no you don't." she says, flaming death slamming into the gnoll.

Rishi slips to the side as green swings, misses, and steps back. She takes a half step forward to follow after him when the one to her right comes in. "Woh!" She slips backward, sliding around the attacks and timing it - as soon as the gnoll finished a cut Rishi's leg kicked out and connected with a knee. Using the brief pain she caused she stepped in to deliver a sharp jab to his throat and with her other hand suck a couple fingers down into the gap created by the beast-person's clavical. Swinging him around by it she crashed him into the wall where the gnoll collapsed to the floor.

"Look! We don't have to keep this up you know." Rishi was already turning to look toward the other two gnolls near her. "You can always just, I dunno, drop your weapons? Give up?"

The Gnolls surrounding Rishi, having been startled by an armed gang busting in on their place, don't really believe that cry for surrender, and take swings. Unsuccessfully.

"Hey! Get away from me!" Zinth screams as the larger gnoll comes by and stabs at her with a spear. The little gobber scampers back under the table and tugs on Nuts' tail again, sending a blazing hot beam of energy scorching across the gnoll's shins. "Eat it!" She shouts, "Run away or I'll set your fur on fire!"

Green sash takes a step to make room for his co-conspirator to move in on Rishi before attacking. He manages, at long last, to stab at her and make it hurt! But Black hat, despite every advantage, just can't get the job done.

"Nononono! Cut it out you oaf! You're just delaying the inevitable!" Zinth yells at the gnoll as she rumbles around beneath the table. Unfortunately, she slips on a spilled bowl of stew beneath the table and her shot goes wide, missing the target. "No! Dang it! That wasn't what was supposed to happen!"

Rishi takes a quick step away, trying to gain a bit of distance when - unfortunately - she stepped right into the attack from one of the gnolls. A quick wince as she laid into the gnoll with a could quick jabs - connecting with one of them. "Seriously! There's the door! Just go if you want. You don't need to keep attacking!"

And then another swivel back at the black hat wearing gnoll. "I apologize for the, 'Yeena' comment." Zenia says, as the death ray charges up. "Not for this, though!" she says as it fires and strikes the gnoll.

Rishi, stumbling after the hit, tucks and pushes off with her right foot into a roll passed the Gnoll. Finishing it and giving a rising strike into the solarplexus with an elbow which drops the gnoll forward onto their knees as they collapse. "Seriously! We're just here to get the red vial thing!"

Black Hat,seeing the other two are down, takes one last deseprate THROW with his spear, which isn't particularly close. He then grabs his wounded friends and drags them out the front door. Leaving Renginar, who made one more attempt at getting the gob under the table, and fails AGAIN. So he sighs, seeing his people leaving, and backs up. Grabbing the microphilter, he throws it to Zinth, and sighs "Take it and get out of here then."

When the party leaves it back at the abandoned shop, it looks like there was a small fire while they were gone. Looks like the self-destructing stuff self-destructed a bit too well.
