  • Title: Forgotten Blood V - Warped Dance
  • Place: Am'Shere
  • Summary: With Adventurers aware that the Charn are trying to cause a problem in the Sith-makar teritories, they are on the lookout for unusual behavior. There are three dangerous 'vats' of a magical disease being spread throughout the land, and one of those vats may have been spotted approaching the The Great Field of Am'shere - where so much of its trade and open games are run. There's rumor of Nar-Sektoth - Sahuagin - involvement.

Last we left our intrepid adventurers, they were warned a green vat had been moving into the ruined temples to the south-west of the encampment. But thanks to a most curious Goblin, they ended up checking up on the eastern excavation first. There, Fidget found herself ambushed by a group of Nar-Sektoth. After defeating them, an investigation revealed a path into the depths below. Now, they arrive into the damp caves beneath. It's dark, and they can feel a strange warmth coming up from the south. There's the occassional sound of Nar-Sektoth all around them. Due to the echoes in the caves, it is impossible to tell where they all are. But they know... They are not alone.

Descending into the darkness, Rune steps just slightly away to give room for the others, but it's obvious by thew ay that she reaches out to look for a wall or other sign of structure, that the half-sil can't see much in the pitch black down here. She may be at home in the shadows, but where there is no light, she has a distinct disadvantage. "Anyone happen to have a light?" Rune asks, but she keeps her voice to as low a whisper as she can manage. However, that feeling of not being alone... well, that's the reason that Rune draws her weapons, though she keeps them close to her body so none of her allies run into them.

<OOC> Fidget says, "Mind if I have a Continual Flame rock on me? I've made several for the TarRaCe, but haven't made them as items since it's just RP-flavour. I can buy this one later."
<OOC> Harkashan says, "That is fine by me"

With all due regret of having dropped down into the caves and having affixed a mask over his face, Aelwyn rumbles behind his leather mask. "Only a sunrod." He replies, "And plenty of flame." One could hear the grin on his face. Glaive held at a tilting point, the draconian then starts to wander forth, orange eyes flitting in the dark. "We should move before they come looking for the dead ones."

"I'd better stay towards the back for a bit, those lizards were nasty. Not the surprise party I ask for." Fidget quips, limping a little as they delve deeper, and she checks her protection magic is still in place. Hearing the sounds of their ambushers' friends, she weaves a spell of understanding, drawing intricate symbols with a finger in a script that forms a light band and then fades away. "Maybe I can overhear something as we creep forward." she says in a low voice. Then at Rune's question, she giggles a little, "I forget that not everyone can see down here. Here you go." she says and fetches something from a little bag on her back, a small sanded smooth oval rock wrapped in a cloth, with a tiny ray of vivid purple light seeping out the seams of the cloth wrapping.

Schara blinks and shakes head once. "No, I have no light, I usually rely on magic someone else has when it is completely dark." Schara answers. "Such as that. They must have prepared that path to the temple for a reason, so it equally stands to reason they may be found further down here."

Aelwyn looks towards Rune, "If she is able, perhaps she should go first. This one can stay near her in case we get ambushed." Another glance is given towards the rear. "And Brass is brazen enough to blast anyone trying to sneak up on us." Obvious grin behind his leather mask.

The moment that light illuminates the area around them, Rune squints and then blinks as her eyes adjust. "Thanks." There is a glance over towrads Schara, with the rogue seemingly in agreement with her. Usually, she tends to depend on someone else to provide the magical sources of light. Oh, she's got a torch in her pack soemwhere, but that's hardly an ideal thing for her to carry around with her. "I can lead the way, but... I'll need Fidget and that rock to stay relatively close behind. I don't have the vision to see far without it." She explains, beginning to move through the cramped spaces of the tunnel they find themselves in. "Let's move out." The rogue is still keeping her voice down, even as she starts down the tunnel.

"Oh, I might have a solution for that...well, sort of. It'll help." Fidget says with vagueness and a smile, then summons something to aid. After her casting, you see a slight shimmering form that fades away into invisibility appear near Fidget, and she tosses the rock to the Unseen Servant, "Catch!" she instructs it, just in time and the rock halts in mid-air. "Follow Rune closely, but don't move out of the spell range from me." and the rock floats through the air to right behind Rune.

"Good idea, just make sure the servant is not damaged. I will stay behind and keep an eye on it as we progress." The Artificer notes as she slowly moves along behind the servant, having to pull each step a bit harder up than normal due to the spell remaining active. "Do any of you still see signs of life passing through here, like the two we already found?" Aelwyn nods his head towards the rest and then starts to move with the rest; hand holding his glaive at the ready, he slowly makes his way along. "This one has not, Brass." The draconian replies to Schara, bowing his head a touch. His glaive was still held at an angle above his shoulder, making sure not to accidentally stab anyone.

<OOC> Harkashan says, "Water ahead is deeper than whence you came. The water ahead is also moving, and you think you see a Fin."

Magic is one of the things that will always amuse Rune in one way or another. It is well beyond her understanding in most cases. However, there is a look of appreciation from the rogue as she inclines her head. "Clever magic, my friend." The floating rock is eyed briefly, but she has to give some trust to the Goblin's abilities. As they continue southward, towards the source of the warmth, Rune continues to squeeze through the tight confines of the caves. She hesitates as Schara asks about signs of life. Her eyes sweep the reaches where Fidget's light touches the darkness. "The water up ahead is rough... and I think I see a fin." She warns. "Be ready."

As the group moves forward, their dredging of the water with each step through the knee-high (or in Fidget's case, waist high) waters creates a constant slurry of soft sounds. Then, suddenly, another slithering of sound. Water quickly swaying and rushing, as a bit of deeper water in front of them suddenly gets disturbed. And before they know it, a Nar-Sektoth leaps from the waters, jumping over Rune, and lands right behind Schara. It lets out a hissing draconic sound, wielding a spear. "Ssssiiillllll." It hisses violently, and immediately tries to lance for her head! Rune spots at least another fin coming towards them!

Aelwyn's eyes track the sudden assailant, his head whipping around. "Brass, duck!" He calls out as he spins his blade in his hand, flames suddenly filling the corridor. He takes a swaying motion to the right, leaning against the wall, before lunging himself beside Schara into the creature. He attempts to follow up the strike with a swipe, but the creature manages to just barely dodge it.

Sticking close by Rune and in the middle of the group, Fidget spots the fin coming in for the attack, and she hops back a little, though slowed by all this water up to her waist, then starts weaving a hastening spell to help her companions deal with these ambushers. "Slice and dice 'em!" the goblin instructs to the fight-y types, while making certain she is not herself in range to be sliced, nor diced.

"Duck what?" The artificer asks, tilting their head to one side, and only further when she realizes that something is trying to stab her through it. "I didn't do anything!" They shout, ducking behind Aelwyn and activating their armor again, which whirrs to life.

A second Nar-Sektoth rapidly approaches from within the waters, diving up to try and stab at Rune. But she's just too fast for it, even within these difficult to maneuver in waters.

That hint of warning, the flash of scales, that is all the time Rune has to warn the others before they are attacked by the creatures in question. Thankfully, there is light enough to see the one coming straight at her. "Fidget, stay near me if you can. I'll try to keep them off you." Feeling the flood of magic, Rune turns to focus on the one heading towards her, slashing her blade against the attack and sending it into the stone wall beside her. Then, she follows up with a series of quick stabs, causing the fish-person to burble in pain before falling limply into the water.

"Tch, this water." The Dragoon rumbles as he attempts to maneuver in the tight space with his glaive. Schara retreating behind him, the draconian does the same - seemingly stumbling back, his opponent swipes at him, but misses the mark. The failed attempt is met with a glaive from above, slicing into the creature and dropping it. "Looks like we are on a right track." Aelwyn says, "Wherever that is." He glances towards Schara. "Brass is fine?"

"Let's push forward a bit and find any others nearby while you're Haste-y?" Fidget suggests, though isn't sure how they navigate the water if it gets much deeper. This gobbo is not a shark, she can only swim-ish.

"That is both of them, yes? But there might be more of them." Schara notes as she takes a look around. "I am fine thanks to your warning and everyone else's work. Thank you, Aelwyn." She adds, taking out a small box that unfolds onto a portion of their breastplate and covers the metal briefly in a glowing net of magical energy that dissipates just as quickly. "They seem to be going after me in particular, but they will likely still attack if given the chance."

It doesn't take long for the fishmen to fall, but that doesn't give them much further to go on. "Shit. Looks like we've got no choice but to head into the water." Looking back over her shoulder, she speaks to the others, "If you have trouble with swimming, this might be rough. I'll scout ahead, but if that's trouble for folks, we may have to fnid another way around." Rune, however, doesn't seem to have any problems with swimming across to the other side of the pool. She treads water at the edge of it, "No more fish in my line of sight, but... it's warmer down here."

<OOC> Fidget says, "I'll fly out of spear range if possible. 10ft above the water."

Fidget hesitates at the edge of the deeper water, frowning because while she's pretty sure she wouldn't drown, she would definitely struggle and she couldn't be much use if she's barely able to float. But then she taps herself on the head in a 'you dumb' gesture, and says "Why am I even thinking about this, I'm a wizard, damnit!" and with a gesture and an arcane chant, her petticoats flutter as she lifts off of the ground and floats into the air. Then she floats after Rune, keeping a bit of distance between herself and any spears that might be hiding in the water.

With no other sign of enemy forces, Rune continues to swim forward, down the damp tunnels. Her hair clings to her face and she hsa to stop now and again to make sure that the unseen servant and Fidget can keep up with her and that she doesn't lose track of where she is going. Schara clings to the wall with ease, and after some time getting used to it, almost begins walking against the wall, bracing with one hand and surprising ease as the armor makes such flexible movements even easier than usual. "If there is any, I can not see it yet." She answers.

Aelwyn was regretting this route. He was not hugely against water - but he was pretty against the water in these circumstances. "Tch. At least the water is getting warmer." He rumbles as he swims through the water with his glaive held in one hand - he had to keep a wider breath due to it, but it was not the first time he had to get wet on a job before. "Any solid land ahead?" He calls out.

Suddenly, from the dusky dark, two Deep Racers suddenly rush her position. Swimming through the deep waters and stabbing at her with their spears, trying to stab her from the walls in order to make her fall from it!

<OOC> Rune says, "Use move to get closer to Schara and see what is going on."
<OOC> Rune says, "Okay, now that I can see them, I'll swim up next to Schara and try to take some of the attention off her."

"I'll be right there with the light. Wait up a se--" And that is when Rune hears the monsters moving in the water even before she can see them. With a curse, she swims forward and moves to try to back up Schara, so that she isn't alone against enemy forces. "Come on, fish-breath. Take me on." She taunts, even if they can't understand her. She waggles one of her weapons in their direction, but is unable to quite reach them.

Fidget flits around the corner cautiously, and sees the two deep racers attacking her friends, and she grins maniacally! "I've been waiting for a chance to try this!" she says, floating above Rune and flicking a silver dragon's scale into her mouth from a pouch and crunching down on it, then belches out a huge blast of cold air, frost and ice fragments that engulf the two enemies and send waves of frost across the top of the water as it begins to freeze solid, though the fish slip out of the ice as it's still forming and aren't trapped.

More fish? Seeing the rest of the party rush ahead, Aelwyn takes in a deep breath and starts sliding across the water. Just after Fidget freezes the water, he dives onto it with unneeded handstand. "This one's gratitude, Tophat!" He calls out - just as his flaiming glaive pierces into one of the attacker's head and slices it open, drowning the creature.

Schara stops at the edge of the cavern's light, peering forward and finding nothing. It's not until they suddenly get a spear to their side that more foes reveal themselves to her. "More of them!" She shouts back a bit late, as the others are already rushing in and promptly dealing with them. The artificer steadies against the wall, and a bolt of electricity jumps out of the end of the death ray on their arm, directly to one of the remaining foes. When Aelwyn spears one of the two Deep Racers they are facing off against, and Schara soon carves away the second one's fishscales with her death-ray, the latter of the two quickly races away through the water and can be heard jumping up onto land not too far north. Speaking to another creature of its own species.

It seems that the fish creatues continue to run further into the depths of the underground labyrinth of tunnels. So, Rune continues to swim after them, now that her allies aer out of the range of their immediate threat. "Continuing to follow." She murmurs, diving forward, avoiding the ice, and moving to chase the fleeing fishmen.

Hovering behind Rune as the rogue moves forward, Fidget spots the Sahaugin ahead thanks to her height advantage, and calls out "Three more!" and shoves another dragon scale into her maw, crunching audibly, this time it was a black dragon scale and she purses her lips to spray out a line of acid that arcs over the wooden barricade and rains down on the lizards below, one of them collapsing in spray of green steam and hissing. "Make that two more!" Fidget announces.

Suddenly, from behind the wooden barrier that is in the way of them, a spark of magic. Suddenly, Fidget's body stiffens and is held in place within the air!

Schara climbs up the wall, and swings to the other side, continuing to half run forward with the others, until she is next to the barrier. The artificer shoves their left arm against the barricade, and the arm glows red hot, searing a large hole through the wood. Schara pauses, and on their side of the barrier, she waves one hand urgently. "Big barrel like the one in the laboratory in there! We need to stop them putting it in!" They sign urgently. <Handspeech>

Rune's ear twitches, catching Schara's warning that one of the vats is present. "Shit. Gotta move." She clambers out of the water, races forward, and then takes a flying leap right into the midst of two of the Sahuagin. It's not exactly the best positioning, but it is enough to maybe keep them occupied for a moment or two while the others manage to get through. Slashing out with her blade, she threatens the two before her, making it uncertain which one she might target, and backing them up against a fall in the lava.

Aelwyn doesn't particularly needed to be told what to do - he was clambering out of the water instant the wooden wall had a hole in it. Following on after the others around the corner, he hisses as he suddenly takes a blow onto his armor from the side. "Tch, this is this one's kind of fighting." He flashes his teeth, running to a stop near the edge of the lava. Spinning in place, he swipes his glaive across the stream, cutting deep into one of the creatures on the opposite side.

With Rune jumping in the midst of a gathering of Sahuagin Priestesses, she comes face to face with them. She can tell that this heat is not good for the Sahuagin. A group of them are trying to halt the team while the Lieutenant is in the water, 'fishing for Fidget', slowly poking her into a bleeding mess! The one closest to Rune tries to shatter the ground benath Aelwyn, but Rune interupts their assault. But in that moment, Rune spots something within the eyes of the Sahuagin themselves...

Schara Looks at the foes in front of them, and back to the group behind them, as Aelwyn rushes forward. The artificer barely spies the sahuagin that was near Fidget, and again she takes aim, striking them with another bolt of electricity.

As one of the Sahuagin starts to cast a spell, Rune stabs forward, distracting it and drawing out a creel of pain. "I don't think so." However, there is something that catches her attention. Something ni the look of the creature's eyes. "Shit... these things are being controlled. There's someone else pulling the strings." She warns the others, even though she can't see anyone that might fit that description in her line of sight. A line of sight that is extinguished by darkness all too soon. "Fuck. I can't see shit." She swipes her daggers out, managing to catch /something/ which she has to hope is the Sahaugin that was nearest to her.

Aelwyn was about to charge the darkness, before he sees the light going out. Then he notices Fidget falling into the water. His head whips back towards the ball of dark, and he calls out, "Hang on, Twin! Trouble in the back!" Taking his glaive to one hand, he inhales deeply - before he begins to run towards the lieutenant at full speed, swaying his glaive from side to side. The glaive slices into the creature and Aelwyn hoists the body above, before slamming it back into the depths it came from.

"Hang on, Fidget!" The artificer shouts, firing off one last shot into the literal dark, but not connecting with anything before light fizzles out. Schara spins around, and immediately dives to the water nearby, bracing on one wall and looking for where the gobber went. "Aelwyn, I've got her, you go help Rune!" She shouts before going beneath the water.

Another flurry of her blades follows and Rune can feel a body go down in front of her. "I got one! I think..." She doesn't sound certain about that. It does feel like a squishy fish-body and not that of one of her allies, thankfully. However, she doesn't have time to really confirm it as the body tips forward into the lava below. Her hand feels forward, but there doesn't seem to be anything else than the dead fishman and rock all around her. "Shit... until this darkness is taken care of, I'm kind of fucked here, guys."

The Priestesses continue casting their spells, even as the Lieutenant dies to Aelwyn's superior spear. One of the Priestesses ends up slain by Rune within the darkness, and soon she can hear the sizzle of lava as it gets 'eaten' by the heat. The remaining two try to prepare better for combat, but things are clearly not going their way, even if the Adventurers can't see within this magical darkness.

Aelwyn bows his head towards Schara. "Quick." Then he is off running the other direction again, glaive held over his shoulder. "Twin, don't move!" The draconian calls out, before he takes a running jump over the lava. He lands solidly in front of her, peering into the darkness. "This one apologizes, but this is not a beautiful fight." His glaive lits up again, flames dancing around the blade.

Schara continues down into the water, and drops to find where Fidget is in the dark water. The artificer pulls one brass cylinder out of a pocket, flipping off the cap to a rather concerningly large needle that is jabbed into the gobber's thigh, where it glows a bright green, stitching shut the worst of the wounds. She continues treading water, ready to drag the gobber out if need be.

At the call from Aelwyn, Rune rises to her feet and draws her weapons in closer to her body as to not accidentally harm the Makari. Then, the sound of someone landing near her has Rune tensing, even if it is followed by the familiar bump of the dancer's body. "We need to get them away from the vat. That's the highest priority." She explains, still unable to see anything in the magical darkness. "Lead me if you can, otherwise, use your sight and take out the ones closest to the vat." She explains to him.

Fidget bursts to awareness under the water, her lungs burning, she feels the lightness of her flight still with her, and throws herself up into the air, rising with a spray of water and surging towards the remaining Sahaugin, her hands already waving in preperation for her retribution, "Eat fireball, assholes!" she yells out as the ball of scorching heat forms in one of her hands, but just at the edge of her vision, she spies the green vat and recalls that it's activated by heat. She hastily snatches at the rod at her waist and as the ball of fire slips from her grasp and flies towards the enemy, she clutches the rod and transforms it into a swirling ice bomb, which explodes in the middle of the enemy, frosting over the vat, the lava, and the priests, even if only briefly.

He tells the rogue, before takes a step forward and slices into the darkness. A bloody thump follows. "One more across the gaps." He flashes his teeth at her, swiping his blade down towards the ground.

With Fidget concious and immediately taking off, Schara is left to clamber up the rock face, where they hesitate for a moment, before much more carefully climbing around the side of the cavern with the lava waiting below. "That was the only healing I had ready, I can't do anything further if something goes wrong." The artificer warns.

Magically enhanced, the Sahuagin Underpriestesses try to suppress the approach of the Adventurers. But they are outnumbered, and outskilled. Even with their magics ensuring their bow shots hit with unerring accuracy! They hiss as they try to warn off the Adventurers, only for Aelwyn to strike one down!

Between the description from Aelwyn and the additional light brought by Fidget's servant, Rune is able to squint through the darkness. "I think... I think I can see a spot I can get to." She crouches, then leaps off, the smaller platform, over to the larger one, clambering up before narrowing a blade towrads the enemy. One slash of her weapon catches the creature, but it's obvious that Rune is panting. This is not easy terrain for her to deal with.

Aelwyn watches the last priestess get battered by the rest of his party - and with a rumbling hiss, he also jumps after Rune towards the last of the folk. Climbing rapidly out of the lava, he lets out a loud roar and spins his blade down the creature's torso, leaving it dead. "... this is what we were in search for, yes?" The Dragoon asks, straightening with a triumpanth grin on his face.

GAME: Harkashan removes the timestop.

Clambering over the rest of the way as the darkness dissipates, Schara reaches solid ground where they can doubleover for a moment as their armor shuts down to it's passive state. The artificer braces on one wall, and sighs. "We need to get this vat taken care of now. What do you think is the best course for it? And also, Fidget, are you alright?"

With the last of the Sahuagin felled, Rune looks at the vat with worry written on her features. At least, for now, it is frosted over. "We need to get this out of here, away from the heat. The illness within spreads by air when it is exposed to heat." She explains, offering a shake of her head. "There's magic to it, but I'm no expert in trying to destroy it that way." Sheathing her two blades, Rune seems uncertain, "Whatever the case, I think we should try moving it /away/ from the lava before we do anything that could damage the containment."

Floating down to the ground by the vat, Fidget is breathing heavily and looks a bit...out of it. She casts one spell without explaining, a soft orange glow emanating from her, then casts another spell that she directs with both hands, surging almost-transparent magic into the vat which glows brighter and brighter, and then suddenly the glow fades away entirely, the magic inside destroyed and dispersed. "I'm...fine." the little Goblin says with a little monotone sound to her tone. "Should be safe to move now, and it can't hurt anyone anymore."

Aelwyn walks around their spot to make sure there are no more creatures lurking within; but then he nods towards Rune and Schara. "This one agrees." He tilts his head as Fidget does his magic thing, looking a bit puzzled. "... is Tophat certain?" The draconian asks, before he glances towards the vat. Then at himself. "Hmmh. One way to find out, this one supposes." He flashes his teeth, before moving towards the vat. "How will we get it out of here?"

With Fidget proving her arcane mettle, pulling the nature that held the magical disease as one, the vat becomes dull in color. Losing that creeping green light. Things within the cave become quiet. With the Underpriestesses defeated, the rest of this holy place gets evacuated by the remaining Sahuagin, as if they had 'felt' the passing of the priestesses. Upon retreating to check out the rest of the cave, they find signs of many more Sahuagin they managed to avoid by taking the excavation entrance they'd taken. The temple up above to the south-west within the lake showing markings of recent Sahuagin presence, and Rune might spot some fins swimming off down the lake still. But there are no obvious signs of the one who had controlled the Sahuagin into desecrating their own temple like this. But it's certain the Charn were behind this. But where the mastermind to all of this is now... goes unknown.
