  • Title: Arcane Signets and Snapdragon Fireworks
  • Characters: Cryosanthia, Mikilos, Rumbo
  • Place: A15: Mithralla Merchandise
  • Time: Saturday, November 28, 2020, 11:30 AM
  • Summary: Rumbo visited Mithralla Merchandise to commission a ring of Arcane Signets from one of the first people he met after arriving in Alexandria - Mikilos. It was also a time to speak again with Cryosanthia and meet Lily the Kobold. As a confirmed firebug Rumbo was delighted to share his passion with the Kobold through Spark cantrips and shooting Snapdragon Fireworks from his Arcane Bonded Dragonspitter. There was also a discussion about the firearm and Rumbo's plans for an upcoming Thunderbelcher project.

Here, a large wooden structure has been built. Its somewhat eccentric yet elegant design suggests its owner may be of the arcane persuasion. To the side of the main structure is a small corral to for horses or wagons. Before the central building, a massive sword emerges from the earth. A sign upon it reads: "MITHRALA MERCHANDISE."

Inside is a small seating area with several comfortable chairs. To the back, an unobtrusive but businesslike sales counter, and two large signs. One asks patrons to please wait here and not disrupt those inside the lab. The other offers a lab rental at a very reasonable rate.

To the left and right are a large set of doors. The doors on the right lead to a large room which takes up most of the building. Several long tables are scattered about, many with small tool racks. A small forge sits off to the side. Unlike the average workshop, maps of celestial bodies and guides to the elemental planes line the walls. Large frameworks of brass, silver, and crystal occupy space between the tables. A large shelf dominates the far wall, the containers upon it sporting such labels as "wyvern bile," "sulfur," "tiger's tears," and other exotic items. A glass-covered hole in the roof, set with mirrors, offers direct sunlight, or moonlight, to shine upon various projects.

The doors to the left lead towards the direction of the mountains and what is reported to be a sildanyari-style ball room. Wizards.

During regular store hours, a young Llyranesi man, Belhan Mithralla, keeps an eye on the shop and the lab. When not cleaning or helping a customer, he can usually be found reading some book from the library.

Mikilos lounges back near the counter, enjoying the blazing sunlight. Not from the windows or door, those are closed, but from a small ball or brilliant fire, hovering near the ceiling. Little hard to miss. The low buzzing isn't helping either, but it -is- bright and warm, so there's that.

Cryosanthia is also present, along with her foundling Lily, and both of them are demonstrating how to bask in the sun the way only lizards can. The whitescale sith'makar has on a short skirt, and the carnation-scale is wearing a small leather dress. The little one lies on the larger one, and Cryo is stretched out on a chair she's found that reclines.

Both are making a sort of trilling noise that harmonizes with the buzzing.

Rumbo makes his way in from the Mountain Road with a dragonspitter in his hand and a wide gobber smile on his face. "Oooo," He hums out cheerfully as he moves through the store to bask at the glowing ball casting sunlight within the store.

Mikilos blinks sleeply and sits up as the door opens, stretching a moment before sitting up, waving to Rumbo. The low hum rises sharply and fades away, moments before the ball of light winks out. The store is still lit, but seems dark in the exchange. Frowning mildly, Mikilos checks an hour glass. "Only nine minutes. I have no idea why it keeps cutting out like that. Should last for at least fifteen." The wizard frowns thoughtfully for a few moments, then shrugs, turning his focus over to Rumbo. "Anyway, hello, how may I be of assistance today?"

Cryosanthia sits up. She sets Lily on the floor, who immediately runs up to Rumbo and stops a meter or so in front of him and says, "Peassss."

The whitescale herself stands. A moment of concentration and the skirt changes to a set of layered wizard robes that are loose and look comfortable. Her eyes are glowing, "The magic looked normal Mikilos. I was looking for a little negative energy dot that might have been draining it away, but I didn't see one."

She also faces Rumbo, "Peace on your Nest, also."

Rumbo twirls the dragonspitter in his hand around his trigger finger as he smiles broadly at the approaching Lily. As he fancifully twirls the firearm into it's holster on his gun-belt the Gobber says, "Peace on your Nest. Did you conjure up that lovely little indoor sun?" <draconic>

Rumbo looks up towards the others and switches to the common Tradespeak as he adds, "Hello. I thought it was about time to make an important purchase." Mikilos smiles, and nods. "Well you've come to the right place." He considers a moment. "Well, depending on what exactly you have in mind. Some things I simply don't have in stock."

"Nooo. I made a catapault." The little pink Kobold says, "Missos casstss."

'Important purchases are. Little Fang, come over here so Mikilos can help his customer.' Cryosanthia moves towards her younglign. <draconic>

<OOC> Rumbo wonders how upset Mikilos would be if Rumbo fired off a Snapdragon Fireworks inside Mithralla Merchandise? :D

Rumbo maintains his Gobber-grin as he hisses out "Spectacular!" Then after murmuring in eldritch and snapping his fingers together a spark flares up momentarily on his fingertip as he waves to the little pink Kobold. <draconic>

Rumbo looks back to the elf as he says, "I am in need of something Master Gerge instructed every proper arcanist should have. Certainly something I think all dapper adventurers need. Since he is no longer available though I've been a little lax but I really should put it to right and purchase a ring."

Mikilos glances at the Spark, having had far larger bursts, well, moments ago, really. "Rings I can make. Most of them at least, that I'm familiar with. I tend to think everyone could use a Protective Ring, very handy, but what sort of ring did Master Gerge reccomend?"

Lily claps, her mouth wide open and showing her tiny teeth, including the little fang that she is named for. She dances in a circle, pumping her fists in the air and barking, 'bang', 'bang', 'bang'.

It seems she understands Dragonspitters too.

"No Lily, no Dragonspitters!" As does Cryo, who moves to pick her up. "Oh, rings! ... This one will hold off ordering. I have asked enough for now."

Rumbo frowns for a moment as he considers the recommendation but then gives a little shake of his head. "I probably should think about that as I'm sure he wore one too, but no not a protective ring." The Gobber gestures to his left pinky finger by pointing with his other hand as he explain. "I mean to order an Arcane Signet ring. I believe his was enchanted with a little something extra but the Signet is what's important as an apprentice."

Mikilos considers a moment and nods. "Arcane Signet, the one that makes a magical mark where you press it? I've never made such a ring, but I am familiar with them. Will run about 600 gold, and take around 24 hours to craft it."

Cryosanthia rubs at the back of her left hand. It's covered by a white, scaled glove, so it takes a second look to realize it isn't her skin, "That's just an Arcane Mark? Those are nice. People know you've been around."

Lily, meanwhile, bounds over to Cryo and ducks around her tail to stand under it.

Rumbo nods agreeably with Cryosanthia and smiles, "Quite so." Then looking to Mikilos he asks, "No? Between the Society for Progressive Arcanists, the Shining Chalice and the Dapper Dagger Dames and Gobber Adventurers I would have expected at least a few. There is even a Skyguild here in Alexandria, how do Arcanists sign their reports and essays and bar tabs?" He gives a little gobber shrug as he retrieves a purse from his coat pocket and begins to spill out coins. "Six hundred gold you say? Thank you!"

GAME: You give Mikilos 600 gold.

Mikilos shrugs. "I assume they either use mundane seals, or cast the magics themselves. Or they might have rings crafted for their offices a while ago. Aren't many ring crafters around, but are a few."

Cryo removes the glove on her right hand and holds it out. It's very scaley. She has big knuckles, and nails that are just shy of being claws. It's oddly too large, yet feminine, and looks strong. There's also a very visible 'notch' in the ring finger as if one was there for a very long time.

"I do need a replacement for this one. It was the Mindshield ring, that Ezil and I got from the Iron Book to hide our thoughts from demons. I'm not sure it really worked. It didn't seem to stop Her."

The whitescale looks over at Mikilos, "I was thinking spell-storing, for a couple spells, and something protective too. We can talk about it later."

Rumbo hand drops to rest on the handle of his holstered dragonspitter after tucking the coin purse away and peers at the hand that Cryosanthia presents as his fingers tap against the wooden pistol-grip. "So it is possible for a ring to have more than one enchantment and I was right in suspecting Master Gerge's arcane signet to be more than just that?" As the Gobber speaks his question he nods as if his suspicions have already been confirmed.

Mikilos nods. "Most items can have several enchantments upon them. But layering magics gets harder the more you try to add. And are a few that just don't work out very well. Are weapons that are ice cold, freezing a foe, yet still burn with magical flame. It works, but is a pain to get the two working properly together, freezing and burning a foe at the same time."

"I prefer just the freezing," Cryo says, putting her glove back on. She smiles, "Little Fang is lightish red, I think she'll favour burning."

Rumbo nods solemnly as he asks, "Will it cost extra to prepare the Arcane Signet for extra enchantments in the future? For obvious reasons I think it would be most suitable as a ring of wizardry."

Rumbo offers in addition, "As do I. If you wouldn't mind I have something that might delight Little Fang?" <draconic>

Mikilos shakes his head. "The additional enchanments themselves are harder to get to 'stick' properly, the core item doesn't change. So no, it's the same ring if you want to add to it later or not."

"I don't mind," Cryo smiles at Rumbo, "I'm sure Lily would love anything you show her. It's up to Mikilos really. I can prop the front door open if you want to aim that way.

She does so with a wedge, then gets out of the way.

Rumbo grins broadly as he draws the dragonspitter from it's holster with a twirling motion and says cheerfully, "Who likes Snapdragons?!" The Gobber then winks and murmurs in Eldritch as he aims the dragonspitter towards the door that is propped open and squeezes the trigger.

There is a bang but rather than smoke and a lead pellet firing out of the barrel a tiny dragon of sparking red and orange flashes squeezes out and streaks in a zig-zag through the store before it exits through the door and explodes in a pop of firework brillance. A moment later, after another pull of the trigger, another shiny red and orange dragon chases the first out to also explode! <draconic>

"Yaaaaay!" Lily runs out the door, chasing the fireworks which obviously get away from her. There are happy squeals as the snapdragons explode.

Cryo smiles, watching them, "We like Snapdragons a lot. That may wake up the Mourners." She leans against one of the counters, stretching out her legs and letting her tail coil back and forth between the space between them and the counter.

Mikilos snorts and smiles in amusement, watching the display. Fireworks in a lab isn't the safest, but this section of the store is pretty much clear of reagents. "Fancy. Is your weapon enchanted, or do you just use it as a medium?"

Rumbo twirls the dragonspitter about his trigger finger as he answers cheerfully, "Some wizards have a wand or toad or a dagger or a pig. I've got this Dragonspitter." There is a wide gobber-grin displayed as he looks down lovingly at the weapon in his hand and asks, "I mean what else would you expect a Gobber Feuerwerker.. that's a Bludguni gunsmith.. to have bonded with?"

Mikilos laughs and shakes his head. "Many possibilities, but when you put it like that, does seem the obvious choice."

"A lathe?" Cryosanthia suggests, "They're not very portable though."

Rumbo twirls the dragonspitter one way around his trigger fingers, then reverses the spin to twirl it the opposite direction before he holsters the firearm. "I have been planning a Thunderbelcher. I'll need to find a supply of Mithril and draw up a new mechanism... but that's for the future. I still need to find someone to work with on Artifice first." Then smiling up to Cryosanthia adds, "I've not yet spoken with Stirling or Merek but they've been told I'm sure. Thank you again for the letters."

Mikilos nods. "I work with mithril, but have yet to secure a steady supply. Are a few mines that have sold ingots before, but can never be certain they'll be willing to part with any. Adamantine is even harder to secure." Cryosanthia nods, "I hope the letters will help, and Mithril is rather hard to come by. This one was lucky, my armour was a present from the Silver Empress."

Lily wanders back in, and then clings to Rumbo's leg. She chirps up at him, "Morrrre."

Cryo looks at Mikilos, "Hmm... the Scorpion I was telling you about, attacked some miners bringing copper ore. Maybe it's worth checking on the mines too."

Rumbo sighs softly as he nods, then glances to Cryosanthia at mention of a Scoprion attacking miners, before he smiles at the Kobold. "I had considered Cold Iron but my time in Khazad Duin showed me how hard that is to work. I was considering an oversized Thunderbelcher would be assisted with the lesser weight of Mithril." He lifts a hand to wave and says, "Thank you again, both. If there is anything I can assist with you know where to find me in Goblintown."

Rumbo gives a wide gobber-grin and says, "Alright, another barrage of snapdragons before I head home. Let's step outside and I'll shoot them up into the air above Alexandria!" <draconic>

"Yesss! More dragonss!" Lily follows Rumbo, hopping when he says he'll shoot off more fireworks. Cryo follows also, to watch her youngling. <draconic>

"This one has found Cold Iron to be very useful, though a mithril Thunderbelcher would catch the sun nicely."

She looks over her shoulder at Mikilos, "Shall we try watching that spell again? This isn't a side-effect of the Wee Queen's visit is it? That was weeks ago. This one will be back in a moment."

Hips and tail swaying slowly in counterpoint, she follows the two small ones out to the courtyard.

Rumbo grins as he pulls the dragonspitter as they leave the door and slips a cloth bundle into the barrel as he murmurs in Eldritch. The spell is cast when he lifts the dragonspitter high over his head and calls out "YEEHAW!" while squeezing the trigger to shoot out two orange and red firework dragons that flash and sparkle as they chase each other in zigzags up into the sky before exploding in bright flashes. With that the Gobber is gone, having slipped away before the end of the firework show!
