Introduction to Plotrunning

Participating in plots and scenes, and running them, is at the heart of Tenebrae although isn't intended to replace day-to-day RP. You can find a sort of "getting started guide" here, as well as resources for Tenebrae's specific setting and policies. Tenebrae awards XP and gold to its plotrunners depending on the type of plot they run, also, and that information is here as well.

Getting Started with Plotrunning

Step One: Step into the Theme

First, you should familiarize yourself with our setting. Tenebrae writes its setting with an ease of learning in mind, so you may recognize familiar concepts and ideals. In some ways, it should feel like "coming home," and this is our intent. However, there are no ninjas, so be sure and read ahead. If you are just starting out, it is a good idea to start in Alexandria as your setting. If you'd like to run plots in areas beyond Alexandria, see below on this page.

Step Two: Read the PrP Policy

We ask that players treat one another fairly, be patient with new runners, and be supportive members of their community. We also ask that +rolls be made public, and that Sundays be declared Otyugh Day. Our website includes more indepth explanation of PrP Policies as well as what types of PrPs are available: we have three different types! There are a variety of PrPs available on Tenebrae; be sure to check out the entire page. For instance, we've recently added "Dramatic Scene" plots in addition to Standard. Check out the link, below.

Step Three: Run Your Plot

Plots are generally announced through +bbread 3, so feel free to make use of it. Note that your character will automatically do a +bbscan on connect, to tell you if any new posts have arrived. Some plotrunners prefer to just do an announcement in the OOC Room, and both are okay. Posting ahead of time can give more people time to participate, while an announcement can be better for more spur-of-the-moment runners. Step Four: Submit the Plot to Staff

Send in a +request with a summary of your plot and who was involved. Be sure to include:

• Quick summary of the PrP
• Characters and levels at the time of scene (This is best done by doing a +pdmscan)
• Type of PrP (Standard, Dramatic, or Death-Consent)
• CRs of encounters
• Purchases and costs (These must be listed at the beginning of the log)
• For Death Consent encounters, any lasting effects, such as drains
• For a Dramatic PrP, note anyone who was there, but who did not participate ("idled")

Once a staffer takes the +request, you can email him or her a copy of the log, which should include any +rolls and important ooc chatter. Alternately, you can share the log on the wiki and provide a link in your +request. Logs submitted must be on the wiki or in plain text--due to security concerns, we can no longer accept DOC, Google Doc, and similar formats.

Running Plots in Areas Beyond the Core Setting

...is certainly encouraged. Check our our Locations section. Some locations will have a "Plot Information" portion that's usable by plotrunners and GMs alike, and contains things like quickly usable descriptions or likely encounters. If there's no Plot Information portion, it doesn't mean the area can't be used; it just means we may not have gotten to it, yet. You should never feel constrained to just what is in one of these portions, either: they're provided as a helpful aid. Our theme is structured around familiar concepts and ideals, and should feel alot like "coming home" in some senses.
