  • Summary: In the vast, the battle continues. Paenitia draws the vrocks down to the ground after Jinks uses a spell to send one there. Sir Faranmidahn dispatches the fallen demon-bird, and when the Vrock falls for Sister Paenitia's Broken Wing Gambit, everyone gets a strike in. Farland summons Azatas, who heal the group and disrupt the Vrocks casting a lightning ritual. Although, the celestials don't do it quickly enough, soon enough, and some strikes hit the ground. A Vrock flies by with a massive screech as an immense eye looks in on the scene, and then reaches in. A gold dragon battles the entity beyond the hole in the sky, as Faran and Edinaz are injured so badly they go down, despite the healing efforts of the celestials.

Previously

Farland, Av-de and the adventurers take cover in the nearby hill. This is only so effective, as the fliers above have a good view of them. Rather than wait, Paenitia leads the attack on the Vrocks, taking one out. Jinks manages to cast a spell that knocks another out of the sky, dropping it in the midst of the others. Lysos and Farland take cover, and Faran, Edinaz and Av-de get ready.

Farland dives to one side as the vrock falls to the ground with a wet thud and then proceeds to start a spell. He's summoning something.

Given the Celestial interspersed into it, he's probably going for 'angels'. One can hope, anyway, right?

Three of the creatures, seeing the attack from Paenitia and others, quickly join together in an elaborate dance. Lightning begins to gather around them, arcing between their personages. Others spread out, flying individually and calling out to the others in their native, demonic tongues. It's painful to hear, to listen to. Others yet still flutter through the veil and others depart, unconcerned with this matter. It's almost like they've seen it before.

And then a great, baleful eye peers down upon you from above, as if a mammoth demon was staring down through the gap onto you.

It's... very large, yes. Worrying.

"...uh..," says Farland, "That's ... very ... large."

In the meantime, three others zip towards Paenitia's present form, raking her with their claws, biting at her with their beaks. Her armor does serve to protect her excellently, but the harm done is real.

Now

"...WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" says Av-De, eyes wide.

He's frozen in place. Frozen in fear.

"Hola!" The Red Knight calls. 'Ruaaaaah!' Her ivory steed echoes. They wing over and turn and she brings up her lance, spearing one of the Vrocks as they go into a dive.

"Oh! I am hurt! I am hurt! Do not strike me, the pain, she is too great." Paenitia shouts.

She and brave Ramirez land amidst her friends, close enough they can back her up, near the melee fighters and away from the casters. She whispers quickly, "I do the dance so that one comes for me. Be ready to strike if I am hit."

Her message delivered, she continues to wave her shield around temptingly while Ramirez hops and helps play up the ruse.

Seeing Paen's gambit, the eldritch Knight nods, though her attention turns toward the foe felled by the talented master Jinks.

Not willing to chance the creature coming to while the group is otherwise engaged, Faran uses her code of knocks, tugs and kicks to wheel Torrent to a new angle, slips her lance into the cradle and the duo charge with her fierce war chirp!

Along the way, even as she's aligning the tip of the lance, she focuses her mystical energies into the weapon in time for the ensorcelled shaft to soundly pierce the outsider's fel hide.

GAME: Lysos spends ONE use of TOUCH OF DESTINY.

With some deep breathing... and the protective veil of her invisibility.. Lysos manages to come down from her near panic attack, engaging the more rational part of her brain once again. She peeks around her cover, looking around at the situation.. and almost wishes she didn't. But before she can think any better of it, the tsuran hikes up her skirts, then moves with magically enhanced speed TOWARDS the fighting. In particular, where Ramirez has dropped from the skies. Thankfully, the invisibility reduces her chances of getting horse kicked by the feathered charger, and she reaches forth to briefly touch Jinks's knee just long enough to impart some magical clarity into the immediate future before pulling back.

Farland's summon finishes, of course. Several angelic servitors appear, yes. With long silver hair, these elven warriors with their bows and arrows are the manifestation of *some* celestial order, that's for sure.

They command the very wind themselves as they seek to buffet the flying Vrocks above and disrupt their efforts to bring down the ruin upon you. It seems to be working, at least.

Ramirez is well trained, he knows this dance, yes. An enemy will come for his mistress and the great ivory peacock-stallion will strike. It happens, he does, snapping his beak on the demonic avian and raking open a wound.

Some of the creatures chase after the 'falling' Paenitia. One of them slices into her, but then the gambit is revealed and after that Vrock is injured, the others divert into Faran and Edinaz.

They encounter some success.

While the summoned Celestials, all too eager to fight the demons, have disrupted the odd dance above that was drawing the lightning into it, not enough of it could be disrupted. Weakened, yes, but not broken. The lightning rains down. The vrocks, of course, are immune to it ... but the rest of you are not. While some of you evade the worst of it, others are almost knocked off their feet by the force of the blasts which leaves small scorched craters in the earth where it strikes.

The song still spilling out of his tiny form as the vrocks descend, Jinks can't help but get a little wide-eyed. He glances down at Lysos when he feels the Tsura woman's touch, smiling his thanks as his lips continue to move. Then the demons are all around.

Squeezing his thighs, the gnome slides back to give himself a bit of room, sets two arrows onto the string, and plucks the bow to singing in counterpoint to his mouth's melody. The barrage is rapid and the arrows tiny, making it quite difficult to follow the missiles through the air. One vrock crumples, choking on its own blood and holding the needle's fletching sticking from its throat. A second reels, trying to grab the missile that's disappeared entirely into its chest.

Demonic claws snatch in, grabbing and clawing, but the buffeting of noble Ramirez's wings keeps the attacks at bay.

Av-de's arrows pepper one of the vrocks but to little impact. It seems his aim was not true enough this go around.

Well, except for one, anyway.

Meanwhile, the great eye above you vanishes from view. A moment later, a hand reaches through the rift. Then another. It's grabbing both ends of it and tearing it open. Tearing reality open with its bare hands.

NOTHING WILL ESCAPE.

You don't exactly hear it. You absolutely *feel* the words.

"I have the injury. See these weak strikes." The woman in the smiling man's mask laughs as she stabs at the Vrock. Can demon birds interpret context from emotion, understand that she's more amused than afraid. Her laughter might sound like panic, after all.

The little knight stabs, stabs, and stabs again. Each hit meeting great resistance, but still poking into the beast.

Her brave steed, not to be outdone, caws and claws, one hitting, one missing. He snaps his beak, catching the Vrock's head in it's pincer-like grip, and he chews. It's a tough nut to crack, however, too tough, and his efforts do not draw blood.

The events transpiring above do not escape her notice. "They eye is gone but the hands remain. Give the word, I will poke the giant!"

She has found her windmill.

Edinaz unleashes a flurry of cut-thrust-cut combinations at one of the vulture-demons, opening up it's hide in a number of places. Teeth bared, he keeps poking, cutting, poking, cutting.

The rake of claws draws less a cry from the Eldritch Knight of Spiders, than does the bolt of fearsome lightning that follows, leaving her scorched and arcing astride the twitching form of her smouldering partner.

Shaking her head, the albino regains her clarity of intent, focusing her will, her magic, into the tip of her lance, knowing the risks, she dares...

...because she must...

She plunges the shaft deep into the heart of the hellspawn, slipping between neck and clavicle to cleave through the fel heart within.

The gamble comes with another fel blow from one of the infernal travellers that tears the lucht from the saddle, her armour shorn through as the flesh beneath.

Unmoving, caked in gore, Sir Faranmidahn Waywalker, Knight of the Purple Rose has felled her last, with her voluminous hair settling like a death shroud over her form.

The Azatas have work to do. The three of them, still relatively sized to the lot of you, move over you. Lysos is missed since she's invisible, but Paenitia, Edinaz and Faran are all healed. Farland seemed to weather the lightning well enough, and Av-de was hit by a bolt that seemed to do nothing to him.

Perhaps he's got a bit of resistance to it himself? Could be one of the magical items he's wearing, too.

In any event, some of the worst of the harm inflicted by the claws and beaks of the creatures and their lightning is reversed.

In the meantime, Farland has cast another spell, himself, and he reaches out with his hand towards one of the flying demons in attempt to do ... something. Whatever it was didn't work and he makes a frustrated sound.

Things take a turn for the worst quickly. One of them lets out a screech as it wings by. It's painful. That sound, unholy and abominable, is powerful and blasphemous enough to make most anyone stop what they're doing and clutch their head and ears. It's what happens to Av-de and Farland both, as well as Paenitia, Jinks, and Faran.

Another wings by as well, expelling some kind of horrible, thick green vapor that sets spores to growing in their skin, vines starting to erupt through them in tiny bristles.

A last one slams into Edinaz, tail and claws and beak ripping into the warrior.

You've made progress, but the tide may be turning...

... the hole in the sky is getting bigger, too, as a great, hand reaches through before .. *something* seems to slam into it. You catch a glimpse of gold scale and a roar. A familiar roar, in some ways, perhaps. A dragon.

A massive gold dragon. The battle on the other side of that hole has a dragon in it, and it seems to now be in the mix against the great demon.

Edinaz reels from the vrock's assault, bleeding hard from multiple wounds. He yells, and his tattoos glow silver, even as he swings wild to ward it too.
