The Gargoyle's Nest CTD Part 7

From Tenebrae
Jump to navigation Jump to search

After defeating the initial moss gargoyles, the adventurers proceeded through the remains of the aerie carefully... even taking care so as to not here the 'innocent plant life' on behalf of Leisel. Kira probably liked this too! She was able to succesfully secure one of the mossgoyle's to large boulder. Chances are it's not getting away.

With care, you aavoidewd healthy doses of poison ivy andf moved up a staircase, coming up around on one end of a great hall, where even more moss gargoyles are at, apparently tending to what can only be descr ibed as the 'heart' of the plantlife here, a great pulsing growth of plant-matter covered and wrapped in vines. It does not appear natural, and vines are spread like veins from it, sinking into the walls and the floor and the ceiling, spreading, growing like some kind of awful, planty tumor.

Hun'rar looks to Leisel and Kisa "Well? Looks like the possible source of the issues here. We good to cut this out and remove it?" he asks in hushed tones while he grips his sword.

Raethon shruggs on his cloak and looks about. he points towards the vines growing all over. However, he waits for Leisel's word, rather than roast them all.

Garak reaches for the symbol of Serriel. Then he turns to look at Kira speculatively. "The way you fight," he muses. "Restraining enemies rather than striking them down." He turns hus gaze back towards the heart. "I could try something similar here."

Having never come across anything like it, Leisel's mouth drops open at the sight of it. She first beings to answer, then decides to closes her eyes, trying to sense the plant life that is within the area.. using her bond to nature, and her clear affinity with the plants, trying to gain insight into this giant plant thing. "I have never.." she begins and tries to settle herself. "The Green Word.... does not... accept this. It is not... natural. But it does not act against it either.." she frowns.

Kira's lips purse at the size and ..strangeness of the plant... thing. "What is it? Why is it here? What is it doing?" She's not very skilled as an herbalist, but this doesn't look like anything she's remotely heard of. Garak's words strengthen her smile as she looks to him. "What did you have in mind?"

GAME: Leisel rolls Knowledge/nature: (5)+14: 19

Leisel shivers opening her eyes. "This... should not be here. It should not be at all." She sounds very depressed about what she is saying. She looks to Raethon first, then to the others. "This is not claimed by the natural world." Her voice chokes on the next words, as if fighting to get them out. "It can not reacy the outside.. it would taint all other plant life." Her expression is disheartening.

Garak kneels and reaches a hand down to touch the floor. "This is good Khazad stonework underneath all this vegetation. Serriel's power will let me reshape stone. A cage trapping it, or a giant pair of arms holding it in place..."

GAME: Raethon rolls knowledge/nature: (13)+19: 32

Hun'rar nods to Leisel and turns to Garak "Doesn't sound like capture is an option here. If it is indeed an unnatural abomination is needs to be burned completely down to the roots. No Warden would accept this things existance. Are you all ready for a fight? This will likely not be easy."

Leisel's frown deepens, "This... this is purposeful." Her expression shifts to angry... "SOMEONE has put this here... trail run.." She loosk at the others. "This.. is not the end of this. We are only... at a plot, a farm. Something yet still is behind this. This has been /created/."

The moss gargoyles amble around, apparently not sensing your presence yet. Then again, they didn't exactly seem taht samrt in the firwt place.

They're plants, okay?

"It sounds like someone is messing with the natural order of things." Rae's staff speaks the truth, as Leisel just said. "Indeed. I think we're going to have to get to the heart and crush it....as well as it's guards." He then looks to Leisel. "Am I accurate?"

Kira nods to Garak and likes that idea, then blinks at Leisel. "This is only part of it?" Not the best news. "Can you tell where it's coming from?"

Garak listens to the others, then nods. "Fire it is then," he doesn't seem too unhappy at the thought. Then he looks around at the others. "I can offer minor enchantments to protect, or make your weapons more effective. And additional blessings during the fighting."

Hun'rar nods to Leisel Raethon "Right, burn it out and then investigate. If you have spells to prepare this is a good time."

Leisel shakes her head at Kira, "This whole place is alive with plant life... it should not be here." she frowns more, "No sun... no rain. It shouldn't thrive... it shouldn't grow... I can not tell where this is coming from." she nods at Raethon, "Correct.. it must be... killed." This last word is whispered.

The good news is that despite your obvious preperations, they STILL don't seem to be paying you any heed. Chances are they won't do that until you, you know, attack them.

Hun'rar waits for Garak to finish his spells and when he gets the confirmation moves out to take on the plant, striding confidently with sword and shield in hand. "Time for some gardening." he says as he strides with flowing wyvern skin cloak following him in his path.

Garak casts his spells. His form bulges and grows, and he seems to practically glow with divine might. His gleaming lance appears in his hands. Ready, he turns and follows Hun'rar.

As soon as Raethon sees that everyone is ready, he lifts a bead out of his pocket and tosses it in between all of the plant monsters and the heart. The resulting flame-filled explosion sears all in the area. "Go. I'll support you from back here....."

The heart is roiling, pulsing. SOmething is going on there...

Garak stomps forward to take up a place in front of Raethon and the rest of the party. His footsteps thud with every step. "Serriel," he beseeches, even his voice larger. "Grant us a portion of your might in battle and we will show the glory and honor of civilized peoples."

The Mossgoyles are shrieking, of course. These strange, wooden and mossy creations are rushing towrds you. Several of them go straight for Raethon. Apparently, his fireball commanded their attention. He is slashed. Two more rush at HUn'rar and manage to fail to really land a good blow on him, while another two have found their way to Kisa, who scythers one like, well... someone harvesting plants.

Deflecting strikes off of the steel of his shield he drives the point of his sword deep in the chest of one of the creature, a mad dance to keep the limbs from hurting him while swinging with his sword and even trying to bite it.

GAME: Leisel casts Barkskin. Caster Level: 6 DC: 17

Leisel watches the fireball cast, winces as it hits the heart and hears all of the mossgargoyls shreaking. She puts her hands over her ears, hardly able to handle the cries of pain and anger. She doesn't notice much else, but as things start in motion, including the feeling of moving faster comes over her, she glances out seeing the mossgargoyles in motion. Her skin darkens and builds a rough texture..

The Mossgoyle is CATAPAULTED across the room from him and smashed into the far wall. He then yells out something in Ancient sildanyari that, from the tone....sounds a lot like an insult.

After Magnus' arrows strike it, the heart roils further and proceeds to stretch, grow with cracking and popping sounds. Wooden branches emerge from its ssides, taking the shape of spider legs because it's ALWAYS spider legs. What else were you expecting?

Now arms begin to emerge from it as well.

Uh oh...

Kisa slices another gargoyle, though badly wounded it manages to attack her. Its claws glance off her armor.

Kira manages to restrain one even further.

A third rushes in from where it was tjhrown by Raethon, soundlessly windmilling its arms.

Two others attack Hun'rar and Garak, trying to slice them wide open to no avail. The defenses of the adventureres are simply too strong.
