  • Emitter: Arynel
  • Characters: Devola (Art2) Sora (Ftr3) Astaren (Clr1/Wiz3) Erakirak (Rgr2) Eilrie (Dru5)
  • Place: Rune
  • Time: Nov 1 2016
  • Summary: Here we go again. Dran is invading, and who's surprised. Apparently a Temple of Althea is surprised, so WHO'S A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO DEFEND THE TEMPLE.....BROTHER!?

Just as everyone thought all fronts were quiet in Rune, another assault begins again. This one happens to be on a direct road towards the temple of Althea that many of the injured defenders of Rune are being patched up.

With many of them in the Temple or not in Rune, Arynel, who happened to be in there on an errand, mobilizes what defenders there are. Arynel herself, however, stays near the temple itself, mostly to guide what defenders there are towards the Dranei coming through the gates.

Eilrie looks a bit lost, having only been in Rune purely to return a book that she had borrowed from someone. She is standing nearby looking at all the chaos, leaning back against a very odd looking tree... that anyone who happened to go past the area earlier, wasn't there before.

When you're under attack, one of the best people to have around is a siege engineer. That particular person is Devola. She doesn't look like much. Young, scrawny, and unassuming in many ways, Devola is far from ideal, but she seems to have a good head on her shoulders and that should probably count for something. Right? Right!?

Astaren is traveling through Rune, having found a secret and quick way back and forth. He stops at the call and tilts his head to Arynel, "Choke point?" He hmms thoughtfully and moves over to watch the inbound way, considering options it appears. "Oh I think I have a few things for this ready." Pullingup his spell book.

Sora has been lending her own arm to the defenses of various temples and her rotation just happen to put her in the right place at the right time. The lass with the artifice arm is looking around and smiles, "Should be a good fight." she says and while she is in armor, she has no apparent weapons other than a bow, which she doesn't have ready at all.

Erakirak has been assured that ranging is part of his job description, so he's been exploring the human lands pretty widely of late. Right now that apparently brings him to Rune, along with some familiar and not-so-familiar faces, in time to lend his bow to the defense of the city. He finds the highest spot he can -- a tree, a rooftop, a wall, a tower, whatever -- that gives him command of the aforementioned chokepoint and readies his bow.

Eilrie climbs up in the tree she's standing next to and starts muttering a prayer with her hands braced on the tree. GAME: Eilrie casts Longstrider. Caster Level: 5 DC: 15 The tree suddenly starts striding towards the indicated gate, carrying Eilrie along with it.

The Dranei are pouring through the gates.....they are definitely much more aggressive than before. They're either reckless, grossly overconfident, or they have a reason to be charging through so quickly.

And....that would be it...in the form of a rather large fire giant on the other side of the gate.

In a town or village or city or whatever, there are things to hide behind. That is Devola's priority. To get behind something so that she doesn't get shot by something, and so that she can safely fire at them in return. "Soo... I can fire a smoke grenade or two out there to blind them on their way in. Anyone for it?"

Eilrie calls back "Do whatever you have to slow them down."

Astaren moves his way up closer to the gate and grins, he actually grins. "Oh this is what this spell was made for." He drops his book back to his side as he rubs his hands together and starts to chant. His hands start to drip with something, "OH I can slow them down, your going to love this!" He calls over to Eilrie, then points his hands towards the gate, "Anybody got anything to light this up? Otherwise I can shortly." Snapping his fingers as the area in front of the gate gets coated in grease.

Sora pulls her belt from her waist and with a command it changes morphing into a shiny greatsword, which she grips with both hands, her artificial one and other. She moves forward and stands there, like she is beckoning the dranei to come closer.

Erakirak lines up a shot carefully and fires, an arrow plunging into an attacker's neck. His target falls to the ground, tripping a second attacker who falls on his own weapon, beheading himself instantly. The severed head bounces, spraying blood everywhere, temporarily blinding a third attacker, whose blind swing kills a fourth.

The Fire giant roars to life and......so do the Rune defenses.

Did the dranei forget about those things?

Yup. They sure did, Barney.

As the Fire Giant roars it's presence, one tower swivels around and the *CRACKBOOM* of lightning can be heard from the center of the city, hitting the giant in the chest. Only a second later, a rather large boulder smacks the giant on the side of the head.....and it falls out of sight.

Anyone that knows the city would know about Rune's defense turrets.....and the city defense golems.

GAME: Eilrie casts Aspect of the Bear. Caster Level: 5 DC: 16 GAME: Eilrie rolls 1d20+10: (15)+10: 25

With Eilrie directing her Tree Friend while adding more protections to him, she readies her shield and mutters another prayer. Meanwhile, Galadh steps into the front line and looks to be windmilling its arms randomly until keen observers notice that the branches are covered in blood and there are a lot less of the enemy around them.

the Dranei continue to pour through the gate, but the giant tree sweeps quite a few of them away, killing them, followed by the electric shot of Devola and the sweeping cleave of Sora. They begin to gang up on Sora, but her armor protects her from all bu one of the Dranei's blows.

Devola is quick on the reload with her death ray, and soon another electrically charged shot burst forth from her weapon and slams into the approaching enemies. There are a few, so it'd take more than her death ray to take them all down. Hopefully a combined effort will do it!

Sora watches as she gets ganged up, she slashed through one and avoided most the blows but gets hit still. She doesn't like that and dancing with her greatsword she swirls around, slashing down at one and cutting the dran down, following through with the motion to slash into a second and drop that one too.

Astaren moves his way back from the approaching hoard and keeping himself out of easy range of their blades. He turns around and rubs his hands together, and puffs of smoke form around his hands, then suddenly they are started on fire. He does not seem concerned. Then holding above his head a sphere of fire forms spreading from his hands. With a toss he throws the flaming sphere right into the middle of the hoard. He does not appear to take pleasure from the screams of pain as the sphere rolls over and burns.

Erakirak is feeling pretty awesome after his earlier multiple-target strike, and kind of phones this one in. The arrow bounces harmlessly off of the soldier's boot, inspiring pointing and laughing from the Dranei, who suddenly falls over dead.

Many of the dranei that make it past Astaren's grese trap fall dead from the combined efforts of the defenders of Rune. 'RETR-URK!' is the sound of the one Erak manages to kill with a wayward arrow. And the dranei slide out of the gate.....cuz they can't run.

VICTORY!

Newp. One more obstacle. And this one happens to be a hill giant. Too small for the golems and the cannons to lock onto....but still a rather large threat...as it steps over the wall.

Eilrie continues muttering prayers to the forces of Nature to enhance Galadh's already formidable fighting skills. The Tree Friend lurches forward and suddenly snaps out with its powerful and blood splattered branches to wrap the hill giant up in a grapple to keep it pinned for everyone else to be able to fight it more easily and keeping it from advancing. That should be a nice morale killer for the enemy to see their big gun suddenly stopped cold.

The Hill giant is a little busy against a moving tree, so.....attacking isn't really an option. He's too stupid.

Sora is a bit off this time around her her try to slash into the foe with her sword misses, leaving a bit off balance as she moves to recover.

Devola's death ray. Not the most deathly of rays, but still deathly enough, fires again! It impacts the silly giant that thought it could fight a tree and win, and it hurts! Probably.

Astaren frowns as he see's the giant. With a motion of his hand he rolls the flaming sphere away from the wrestling giants and towards more of the Draeni. He shakes his head and holds up his hand and blows a bubble into it. He then flicks it towards the giant, "Here we go." And watches the missile hit the giant and blinks, "Well that was some missile." Watching the giant stop to move.

The giant, after getting hit with the magic missle, just....drops to it's knees and goes limp in the tree's branches. "Seems you were the right people for the job." Arynel says. "Come....the Temple of Althea will bring you food as a way of saying thanks for their defense." She says as she starts to stride back towards the temple herself.
