  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Dirk, Slixvah, Zofija, Shilde, Robert, Aavhash
  • Place: North of Alexandria
  • Time: May 2nd, 2022
  • Summary: The party finishes off the wights without any further issues on their vitality, only to learn the undead seem to have come from Dragonier. Zofija looks at the creatures still surrounding her, and grunts, hefting the hammer she had and smacking one of them soundly with her hammer, while the griffon she was atop of continued to ineffectually prod at the wights. "Just two left, don't let them surround you, focus each one down!" The Arvek-nar barks.

Only two of them are left, with one striking at Zofija's steed but only striking armor due to the cavalier's skillful positioning. It's already wounded, as well, beset by titan fist and blade.

Only the two of them left, yes, out of the five that ambushed you in their tattered clothing.

<OOC> Dirk says, "Full round action to reload my gun."

Dirk breaks the action on his thunderbelcher, hurriedly scooping a fresh round out of his hip satchel and slapping it into the breech. With a practiced twitch of his wrist, he snaps the action back into place and racks the slide. "Eenie meenie miney mo," he mutters, flicking his gaze between the two wights as he narrows down which target to fire on.

<OOC> Slixvah says, "standard to use Hex: Fortune on Zofija! move action to shove wand away"

Slixvah is looking a bit haggard from that touch of wight blight, her stowing away the wand she used that kept her from losing more life force. The dagger in her hand twirls through her fingers, and flips it through it air, then jabs it reverse grip into the air. An L-shape on her hand sticks out towards Zofija, Slix's tongue dangling out the side of her mouth as she focuses.

"I pull the strings here, not you, fate," she murmurs to herself, before sucking in a breath. "Zofi! I'm doing the thing! Do the thing!"

And... pull.

>Twang!<

Something unseen snaps.

Rocky, in the thick of it with most of the others, growls and snaps at the most ragged looking of the remaining undead while Shilde, arms still out to the side, continues to call upon the storm. Another bolt of lightning crashes into a wight, the thunder for all intents and purposes instantaneous.

As more undead begin to fall and get blasted by lightning in very close proximity to her, the latter makes Aavhash jump a bit. She can't help it. Every one of those lightning strikes is close enough she can feel a little charge on her scales and armor. Smell the ozone on the air. Taste it even. "Foul things that should not be. The Deathdancer called you once, you should have stayed by her side." Her gleaming silver blade is lifted and then brought down in another arc to cut into the badly damaged Wight and cutting it down completely, one arm going this way, a leg going the other. Aavhash rips her blade back up and to the ready while trying to keep an eye on the other Wight. They're so close to ending this particular menace now. So close.

Trizia and her goblin friend are staying where they are, on their donkey, backed up. Two more magical missiles impact the remaining wight, sending it faltering back a couple of steps from the blast.

Another wight falls, and that leaves only one more, as Zofija drives her mount to hop out of the way of one of the swings from the creature. And this time, the Arvek-nar was prepared to make the most of the situation. The cavalier hefts the hammer, and brings it down hard, leaving a sickening crack of bone as it impacts the remaining wight's head, sending it toppling to the ground.

And immediately she brings Screech away from the bodies, in case of any lingering magic. "That was the last one here, yeah? Everyone alright?" Zofi asks. "What even were those things, and why were they here?"

Slixvah gasps for air as she falls a knee, a hand over her chest. "... heavens... felt like it... sucked the life right outta me..." she pants. "Undead... some kind... dunno, I don't study that heebie jeebie stuff..."

Trizia takes a momoment to calm down herself. She's looking shaken. She dismounts her donkey, casting a glance back to her goblin companion, who nods towards her and looks onwards, on his guard.

She moves closer toone of the fallen wights and kneels down, fingering their rags they wear.

"Any of you know much about fabrics?" she asks, haltingly.

Dirk lowers his rifle as the last of the wights falls. "By me father's beard," he says, his face as pale as his whiskers. "I... I've never actually -fought- a deader afore." He looks over to Slix, eyes widening a bit. He trundlers over, hunkering down onto a knee and reaching out a hand to her shoulder. "Are you all right, lass?" he asks worriedly. "Do we need tae get ye back to Alex?" He looks up and around, looking over to Trizia. "Och, yer a paladin, aren't ye missus? Can ye do anything tae help 'er?"

Shilde lets the storm go.. Well, more accurately, she lets her grip on that portion of it go. The rain is still there. It's possible it's even worse. As she does so, the glow in her eyes fades, and the hair standing out gets pattered flat with the rain drops. Without saying anything, she trundles on down to Rocky who is busy sniffing at the fallen undead. Not eating, though. He has some standards. As she approaches, she pulls the twig wand from her belt.

"I had heard about a pack of undead from a nearby village I was passing through." Aavhash hisses in disgust at the things, cleaning her gleaming silver blade before sheathing it, "They are brought back by unholy magics or situations." She shudders, "I followed a trail of death and dessication to here. I do not know what made them. Or who. Or why they were heading this direction but I am glad they are destroyed."

Aavhash looks over at Trizia and then the others, "Fabrics are not a thing I am knowing." She admits with a little shrug. "I am glad that none were killed. I do not know if these are the kind that create more of themselves or not but, it was not our time to dance with Vardama." Turning her attention to Slixvah she asks, "Are you alright?" Taking a few steps closer but not enough to block any healers path.

"Outta my grasp, sorry," is Trizia's response. This isn't a thing she can do, she seems to be saying to Randolf. Pretty much that. She's looking onwards, worried, shaking her head.

"no," she says, "These are old. These fabrics, they're Dragonier. These wights are from dragonier. Here."

She looks pale. Very pale.

"Dead creatures, yeah, brought back from magic usually." Zofija grunts, cleaning off her hammer. Which stops, when she listens.

"Dragonier? Too much of a coincidence for them to all be wearing clothes from that place. Which means, probably nothing good. Either someone or something rounded them up and brought them here, or the undead from that place are wandering further afield than people thought."

The Arvek-nar grunts, and pulls a woodsman's axe out of a pack on the saddle on her mounts side. "We can't burn the bodies, and we don't have time to wait for the rain to clear safely. We need to hack these up into unusable parts, and be on our way. Trizia, what do we do now? Weren't we supposed to meet someone here?"

Slixvah shakes her head, a wing waving people off. "Don't think... don't think this can get fixed with a lil' booboo-byebye mojo. Prolly gonna need a 'two shots of bourbon and a prayer' in the morrow dealio. I'll be good, lovvies, don't... don't worry 'bout me. Just might be limpin' a little bit is all. 'preciate the concern though. Robert also took a lick too."

She gets to her feet slowly, shivering as the rain hits her. It should be refreshing. Really it just sapped the heat from her bones. A glance to Trizia. "... wait. Dragonier? That mean.... they ambled all tha' way ova' here? That mean..." Her throat bobs. "... there's more of them around here?"

"Could be, or more could be arriving soon. That means the mission is changing: we need to locate my contact and extract him. Then we need to identify if this was just an advance group of wioghts, or if there are more in the immediate area, and then we need to report back to the city. They need to be alerted."

She clanks as she rises. "Now, I'm not much of a warrior but even I can tell you that we're not going to last long against an even bigger group of these, so we need to be ... careful. You're hired, by the way," she tells Aavhash.

Dirk rises to his feet as Slixvah waves him off, resting the buttstock of his thunderbelcher on the ground and leaning on it. He looks over to Trizia as she explains the origin of the wights, reaching up to tip back the brim of his tricorne. His eyes get wide and his face pales again, and he swallows hard. "Missus, I... I'm just a woodsman. An' only a passin' decent one at that." He looks to the rotting meat laying on the ground. He squares up his shoulders and clears his throat, taking up his rifle and slinging it over his shoulder. "But I can track someone down in the wilds easy 'nough. Let's go an' find yer friend."

Shilde spends a few moments treating Rocky with her wands, listening but not contributing to the speculation while she inspects the dog's wounds. He, of course, does everything he can to make that impossible by trying to lick her face. Finally the dwarf woman grumbles somthing, pushes Rocky's head away, and straightens back out.. holding out her wand as an offering. "Got any hurts, best t'treat 'em now. 'Specially if there's risk've more've the undead around, aye? Can't 'ave anyone distracted from pain... or other things," she adds, looking at Dirk. "Buck up, rifleman. We'll be fine."

Aavhash listens to what everyone has to say, looking blankly at the name of the place the Wights are from. A jungle girl like herself has no knowledge of much outside the jungle but she listens. When she is 'hired' she hisses a soft sibilant chuckle, "As you wish." She looks around, "If there are more, we should move quickly." She hardly notices the rain at all as it drips off her scales and armor. She nods to the others and helps make sure there's no usable pieces of Wight left alongside Zofija while the others collect and gather themselves.

"Gonna be honest," says Trizia as she moves to her donkey, "I don't like this coincidence. At all." CLank rattle. "A contact of mine is here, out here, and now there are wights. It smells as bad as these folks do." A gesture at teh bodies.

"Let's be on our guard."

The goblin beside her nods.

"Yeah, if there's more, it's not safe to stay here." Zofija grunts, punctuating several of the words with hacking at the bodies, decapitating and otherwise dismembering them. A grisly, unpleasant, but possibly necessary task. "Wish we could offer some proper rites, but there's no time. All we can do is make sure they aren't coming back again, or being used against us."

"Lets see if we can find your contact, get them out of here, and get out of here ourselves. I don't want to be around for more of them, we got lucky enough as it is."

Slixvah rubs her beak and slowly ambles over to Zofija, her clambering back on to ride in the back saddle. "Right... lets... get your boo outta there. Can't take a lot more of somethin' like that though."

She path's Zofi on the shoulder. "Warn me next time 'fore you do that, Muscles, so I can get off."

"Aye. Time t'get this boulder movin' then," Shilde says, patting Rocky before gesturing forward... the large dog pads off ahead a little ways, ready to range.

Dirk trundles forward to take his place at the front of the group, once again hunkering himself down so he can scan the ground for tracks. He sweeps his shaggy white head back and forth, not unlike Rocky on the scent, as he studies the muddy ground for signs of Trizia's friend. "Right then, friend, where've you gotten' off to?" he mutters as rain drips from his tricorne.

With the bodies dealt with as much as can really be done in short order and people ready to get a move on, Aavhash checks on Slixvah again with some concern but then looks towards Trizia, "As you say." She moves to leave with the rest, keeping an eye out as best she can.

Reorienting yourself once the adrenaline wears off and you can get back om the map isn't too terribly difficult. Between Shilde and Drik, especialyl, you're soon able to get back en route, moving forward and leaving the bodies of the wights behind you. It's still quiet, animals having taken shelkter from the rain storm in the ways they can, to say nothing of those drivem away by the presence of the undead no doubt. A few small animals are located as well... well... their bodies, in any event. Consumed by the wights. Life force drained.

Soon, you're approachign a particularly tall and dead oak. The meeting place in question.

Slixvah is hiding underneath her gyroparasol once more, though this time to ward herself from the rain and hide her dragging expression. The sight of the dead animals making her throat tighten and her wings jitter with a nervousness.

And then they approach the oak: the meeting place. A shudder leaves her. "... so... they aren't here...?" she mentions, looking around from her seat. Taking a mote of wisdom from last time, she dismounts, talons slurching in the mud.

Zofija was taking things slowly and carefully, and she wasn't in a rush to charge forward while the others were tracking after apologizing to the witch she was with. She was focused on watching the woods, more than a bit on edge until they finally reached the meeting spot. She was still on edge, but at least there was something to focus on again.

"This is the place, yeah? Did they mention how they would be here, or how to contact them?"

Dirk's eyes get wider and wider as he finds those poor beasts, drained of life and left to rot in the mud. "Dana be merciful," he whispers hoarsely. "They just... drink the life right out of ye. It's monstrous!" Eventually, they reach that great, dead oak. The old snowbeard straightens from his hunch, his eyes widening once again. "What a dreadful place," he mutters, unable to keep himself from shivering. He grips his thunderbelcher in both hands, knuckles white around the stock and slide. He looks over to Trizia, gulping hard. "They... they're nae here, are they?"

"I don't smell anything," replies Trizia, glancing towards her goblin friend who shakes his head.

"Maybe they're nearby but I don't know."

She marches up to the tree. "He told me to knock four times on the tree to trigger a signal that'd reach him. I assume some sort of magical alerting system to tell him we're here." She glances over her shoulder towards the lot of the party, indicating her readyness.

Aavhash is /really/ unfamiliar with these types of trees, their layout, and everything else about this land in the cold, wet, dark, and muddy situation they are in. She even loses her entire sense of direction especially when the dead wildlife is noticed! Fortunately, she is able to follow along with everyone else behind those who are leading them.

When the dead tree is approached, and noticed, Aavhash's nostrils flare a touch and she hisses to herself, "What is the fascination with dead things all about?" But she attempts to continue on until the whole party comes to a stop. "Perhaps they are hiding?" She asks of the others.

Shilde's expression is.. frozen. Which is probably good. The anger she is holding back wouldn't do much good here. Not yet. So she focusses on helping Dirk find the way, Rocky lending his schnozz to the task as well. When the reach the tree with no one there, she immediately sets to continuing to look for tracks. This time, ones that lead away. Failing that, for signs of a struggle.

Slixvah gives a soft sigh at Trizia's explanation, her pulling out her wand once more, followed by a dagger. "Yeah... sounds good, sugar..." she mentions to their charge. "Give it the big hola while we take a gander 'round."

She does not take part in the gandering. Instead her focus is on Trizia, standing nearby her within ribbon-feather grabbing range.

Dirk gingerly approaches the tree, holding onto his rifle for dear life. "Go on, missus," he says to Trizia, his head on a swivel as he looks hither and yon for signs of danger. "We've got ye covered."

GAME: Slixvah used a Wand of Mage Armor.

Slixvah twirls her wand and gives a small, tired sigh. "Ant'c oucht.. htsi. I guess..." she murmurs. The girding winds are halfhearted in their vigor before she stows her wand away.

A moment later, once everyone has made themsleves ready, Trizia knocks four times on the oak tree, firmly, gaunlted knuckles tap-tap-tap-tap.

A momenmt passes and nothing seems to happen, but then the trunk of the tree lights up. That's the signal, you know, A tree. Lighting up. With a light spell. *DONG* goes the tree, once. Loud enough to alert anyone in the immediate area that 'someone is at the door'. So to speak.

"...oh *balls*," groans Triziia.
