It's Eliday, Quintoos 20 21:26:37 1018. The full moon is up. The tide is high and slack. Icy rain pours from grey-black clouds driven by a howling northeast wind.

A02: Ma Rosie's Goblintown Gambling Hall

Heinrich comes walking into Ma Rosie's wearing his knight-in-armor get up. He shivers from the icy rain and heads straight for the craps table.

There's a new face in the crowd at Ma Rosie's tonight... an orange-skinned Arvek woman, sitting at the craps table, throwing dice, drinking ale, and apparently having a great time of it. She's dressed in a shirt of mail over more typical clothing, and has an array of weapons on her person. "Ho! Server!", she calls out. "Another ale!", she adds once she's gotten someone's attention, holding up her mug. As Heinrich approaches the craps table, it'd become obvious that, although this Arvek woman's muscular in a wiry sort of way, she's also -small-... in terms of height -- she's far shorter than the average Arvek woman.

When the server responds to Kai's summons, Hank says, "A coffee, black please." Then he nods to the new lady and says, "Hi. I'm Hank. Haven't seen you around before." He smiles, and puts a gold piece forward as he takes a pair of dice. <goblin-talk>

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (6)+(4): 10

Looking over at Heinrich, the Arvek woman nods. "Ain't been around before. Just blew into town a couple nights ago, and finally found this town's gambling house", she says, then purses her lips at the roll of the dice. "Two on the line, one on a hard ten", she says, setting out chips. She's not making big, heavy bets, just enough to actually play the game. <goblin-talk>

Heinrich smirks and says in a completely Alexandrian accent, "Blew in, huh? From where?" He rolls again.

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (4)+(5): 9

"Blar, originally. Where else?", says Kai, though she hasn't yet introduced herself by name. "Was in that final battle at Rune, too, before ending up here. She watches the dice roll, and then takes a pull from her mug of ale. "Make that two fives this time, willya?", she comments.

Heinrich smirks, "We'll see. I was born in Bludgun, myself, but came to Alexandria as a child and political refugee. I totally support Blar, though." He sips the coffee then tosses the dice again.

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (4)+(1): 5

"Well... that's half right", Kai says, with a gesture at the dice, and laughter in her voice. Then, as Heinrich's about to throw again, she waves a hand to interrupt. "Wait! Wait! You need a -drink- if you're going to be throwing dice!", she declares, then lifts a hand and calls out, "An ale for the shooter!"

Heinrich calls out, "A dark, please." Then to Kai, he says, "And whom should I thank for this drink, then?" Again he rolls...

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (1)+(3): 4

"Kai", is the Arvek woman's reply as she drinks from her own mug, again... then, and just narrowly, manages to not spit out a mouthful of ale. "That's even worse!", she laughingly complains with a gesture at the dice with her mug. "Who taught you to throw dice?"

Heinrich says, "Nice to meet you, Kai." As his ale comes he takes a deep swallow of it before it ever touches the table. He says, "Sometimes it's good, sometimes not. But it ain't over yet." Another roll.

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (2)+(6): 8

Kai chuckles, puts her mug down and leans over the table, elbows on its edge, hands folded atop each other. "You're all dressed up as a knight...?", she says after the dice have been thrown, her tone of voice making it a question.

Heinrich says, "I guess so. This was my father's coat-of-arms. I wear it to honor him. See, my family name is Stürmlanze, so the sparks represent the storm part and the lance is obvious." He rolls again.

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (3)+(2): 5

One of Kai's eyebrows arches up. "Noble?", she questions, simply, eyes watching the dice bounce along. Then she adds another chip to her bet on the line.

Heinrich replies, "Not exactly, but he was a gentleman and an officer in the cavalry."

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (3)+(3): 6

"You ride, too, like your da?", Kai asks. "I can ride... ain't trained cavalry style, but I can ride", she adds, taking another gulp of her ale.

Heinrich takes another drink of his ale and says, "That's right. Jousting is my specialty. I'm saving up for an adamantine lance and mithral full plate armor.

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (5)+(3): 8

Kai doesn't watch the dice roll, this time, again almost spitting her drink. "Adamantine? Mithral? Rich as fuck, ain't ya?", she says.. then looks around. "You slumming, or you ain't welcome in other, fancier places?", she wonders, not looking as if she's upset... but she does look very curious.

Heinrich almost sprays the table with ale as Kai accuses him of being rich. He says, "No richer than any other adventurer, and poorer than most, I'll warrant. Adventuring gear ain't cheap, you know. That why I'm saving up. Or maybe I'll win the gold." He winks and tosses the dice again.

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (2)+(4): 6

Kai actually laughs some at Heinrich's near spittake. "That's gonna be a LOT of saving up! ... and no way you're winning that much off me. I ain't rich, neither!", she says. "And rolling like that, you ain't winning that kinda cash any time soon."

Heinrich says, "Well, that's for sure. Most of my income comes from adventures, to be sure."

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (5)+(5): 10

Kai's eyes widen and she jumps to her feet and whoops loudly, both fists raised in victory when the hard ten comes up, winning both of her bets for her. "Keep rolling, you!", she then says, pointing at Heinrich, before lifting her mug as if in a toast to him. Her chips collected, she places a two chip bet on the line, once again.

Heinrich chuckles at Kai's excitement and adds his winnings to his bet. He rolls again. "Double or nothing."

GAME: Heinrich rolls 1d6+1d6: (3)+(4): 7

Again, Kai cheers the win. Still, instead of double or nothing, she bets small -- only a two-chip bet on the line. She does celebrate the perfect seven roll with the downing of what's left of her ale before loudly ordering herself another. It's clear this wasn't her first... or even her second... drink. She's not quite sober, while still far from falling-down drunk.

Heinrich downs the rest of his ale, then chases it with his now lukewarm coffee. Standing from the table with his winnings. "The secret of getting ahead here is to know when to leave the table." He winks. "I really should be getting along, anyhow. Nice to meet you, Kai. See you around.

"Booo! You're butter! You're on a roll! Don't quit now!", Kai says, although she doesn't leave the table to chase down Heinrich... or refuse the dice when they're passed her way.
