  • Summary: Farmers get people from the Adventurer's guild to find out what has happened to missing livestock.

       A couple farmers from a local community that feeds the city approached the Adventurer's Guild for some help. Apparently they have been losing livestock to an unknown source. They fear wolves or something but they are uncertain for sure the cause. They have contracted the guild for assistance. This leads to the three of you.
       The guild has hired you to find out what is taking the livestock and take care of the problem by any means that you see fit. They aren't that picky of the details only that the farmers can return to normal business as soon as possible.
       To this end you were given directions to the last Farm hit. The farm has been temporarily evacuated the livestock moved elsewhere, though there was a fire left burning in the hearth to allow you to all warm yourselves as you get started.


Belladona walks along with Samafa as they are headed to the farm. "They always blame wolves for missing live stock, perhaps they shouldn't build their farms so close to the forest. You can't blame wolves for going for an easy meal."

"Hnnn," the masked Veyshanti grumbles, "how these wetlanders expect to keep the lands they grow upon, if they cannot fight simple predators..." Snorting behind her faceless mask, she crouches next to the fire, to better warm up.

Dain follows in after the other two, a small tiger next to him as he thumbs his pipe and lights it up, puffing quietly, "Is it really that suspicious?" he asks quietly.

<OOC> Aurala says, "yes its an animal howl and at this distance, it is canine of somekind, for some reason it is a little hard to identify exactly, but it is canine."

Dain coughs of the smoke, "...more than wolves out there..." he says waving away the pipe smoke, gasping a bit as he turns towards the door and pushes his pipe away, "Screams..." he coughs. He then pulls out his warhammer..

Belladona hears the howl and Samafa's ears become alert. "Hmm sounds like a canine, but it's hard to tell what kind." She gets out her shield and her claws, "Let's go see what it is."

Alba rises from her place at the fire, tugging her shaggy cloak more tightly around her shoulders. From the pouch at her hip, a scorpion's tail emerges, flexing fitfully. "Nn," she grunts in assent. "And bring its skin back to the villagers."

There are more howls, same distance, but they come from the same direction and its not that hard to figure out which way they are coming from.

Dain opens the door and exits the building as he draws out his shield slowly. He marches out in his slow plod with the cat by his side.

Belladona hurries along with Samafa by her side and she heads outside once the door is open.

Alba lopes after the druids, a length of barbed silver chain chiming softly as it uncoils in her hands.

You travel some distance and then spy a copse of trees ahead. You can all hear the screaming now, well it sounds more like someone yelling for help now. Its coming from the trees, there are no howls.

Dain seems to relax a little as he approaches the copse, "Sounds like someone got treed by the wolves. HAIL!" he calls out. He wasn't exactly being stealthy to begin with.

<OOC> Alba says, "Any way I can pinpoint where in the trees the voice is coming from?" <OOC> Aurala nods...from the direction you are heading. You can guess its in about the center of the copse.

Belladona looks around as she hears the screaming and yelling. She looks around to see if she can see the source of the yelling and what's causing it.

Alba lowers her upper body and charges forward, reaching out to slap a hand against the rough bark of one of the trees. Almost immediately, the tree begins to shimmer with a bright yellow luminescence, as though the bark and leaves had become forge-heated steel. "Hoi!" she calls ahead of her, "Call again, that we may find you!"

And as the light emerges and they get closer there is a small clearing in the center of the trees and standing in it is a massive wolf. It stands 3 ft at the shoulder and probably is over 300 lbs. Its fur is dark grey almost black. It looks at you, "Help, oh help me." comes from its mouth and its obvious that it is the one that was doing the screaming. Its red eyes flare as it looks at you all.

Belladona frowns as she gets close enough to see what it really is, "Worg..." She growls, "Samafa attack!" She rushes forward to slash at the Worg as well.

Belladona slashes at the wolf with her claws as Samafa moves in for a bite, both hit wounding the worg.

The worg gets swarmed and tries to take a bite out of Belladona but just snaps on air.

Dain touches the tiger as he whispers something, a magic glow entering the beast before he raises his voice, "Are you sure it's a trap? If it is.. shouldn't there be more?" he asks his companions as the Tiger stays by his side.

As if on cue of Dain's words two more worgs emerge from leap into the fray. The first comes up behind Dain and tries to bite him but misses, the second moves up behind Samafa and flanks with its companion, but it fails to hit too.

Belladona fends off attack with her shield and she slashes at the Worg with her claws. She rakes the claws across the worg's belly as it's looking pretty bad. Samafa's metal armor protects her from the bit and she goes to bite back at the Worg as well as rake with her claws. The claws miss, but she bites down hard on the Worg. As the trap is identified, then immediately sprung, Alba risks a moment to glance over her shoulder at the new attackers. "This one I shall finish," she says, whipping a hand out to rap the warg directly between the eyes, a brief ripple of sickly green light spreading out from the point of impact, and setting the warg to recoiling.

Dain pages: So one behind me and two up in front with Bella, Sam and Alba?

And the worg is dazed. It paws at its face a bit, like trying to clear its head.

Dain sways to the side of the wolf, swinging his warhammer haplessly. Magic teeth flash through the air, but miss, claws tear into flesh though leaving the Worg wounded.

THe worg attacking Dain moves to Thrud as it was wounded by the tiger and manages to take a bite out though fails to trip it. The other after getting hurt by Samafa attacks again and takes a chunk out but fails to trip there as well.

Belladona slashes at the dazed one and she misses. Samafa attacks as well, but she misses as well with her claws and bite.

As her allies hurl themselves to the attack and miss, a bubbling, catlike snarl emerges from behind the Veyshanti's mask. "ENOUGH!" she shriek, spiked silver links hissing as they tear at the very air, the chain wrapping around the warg's neck. "SKIN YOU ALL ALIVE, WEAR YOUR HEADS AS BOOTS!" Cords stand out on her skinny arms, and with a mighty heave she pulls the chain free, taking most of the warg's hide and a good deal of its flesh with it. Its throat torn away, the warg staggers, falling onto its side and thrashing until death finally claims it.

Dain moves opposite the Worg from Thrud and between the two of them... Thrud barely manages to catch it with an errant claw. Perhaps the flailing claws and teeth will distract the Worg from poor Thrud.

The remaining worgs try to step up their attacks, but they fail to bite their targets. They growl at each other.

Belladona misses as she tries to slash at the worg. Samafa's bite misses, but her claws badly hurt the worg.

Her own quarry disposed of, Alba turns to aid Dain and his companion... but her swing is just too wild, and thumps to earth next to the warg, rather than around it.

Dain loves it when a plan comes together. BANG! Hammer to the face, Mrowl! Teeth in the flank with a magic sting. Slash! Slash1 And the claws cut deep. The blood spills out as the wolfen form falls to the earth.

The last remaining worg fails to take a bite out of Samafa maybe cause it is hurt so much.

Belladona misses as she claws at the worg, but Samafa's claws are much more effective as she finishes off the worg. Belladona looks around for any more.

There doesn't seem to be any other worgs around. There are tracks that lead off into the hills, but these appear to have been just a group of three.

Dain takes a moment to check around before putting away his shield and hammer. He pulls out his pipe and lights it with his finger, waving it out before he takes a deep suck from the pipe. Holding it in a moment, he lets it out with a frown as he looks over poor Thrud. He shakes his head at the wound but pats her head, "It'll be ok.." he tells her.

"Your animal," Alba rasps, apparently releasing her bloodlust and fury in a single, long, shuddery breath. "Is it well to continue? There are more, yet, and poorly would it serve these foolish wetlanders if we allowed such creatures to return, still hungry."

Belladona moves over to Samafa to examine her wounds and she takes out some herbs to chew them up and put on the lioness' wounds. "Yes Samafa and I are ready."

Dain sighs, "I would heal her if I could.. She can still fight and tomorrow I'll be able to help her more directly.. Until then though we seem to be hunting Worgs.." He doesn't voice the thoughts his special pipeweed gives him, that maybe that first Worg really WAS looking for help.

Alba nods once, face turning up to the treetops. "Ho, wetlander!" she calls, "the creatures attacking you are dead! If you can, come down and get to safety!"

Dain laughs, "You won't find anyone up there I think. Worg's are magic beasts.. they can talk.. they can scream and they can lay traps..." he says. He picks up a pebble and it explodes into light (a dwarf needing a light? Strange...) he uses the light to look over the tracks as he nods to Thrud. He glances at Bella, "Essence? Do you think we should wait till morning?" he asks curiously, "Or track now while the scent is fresh?"

There doesn't appear to be anyone in the trees, it was the one worg luring you in.

Belladona hmms, "Well I think we shoudl follow it while it's fresh. Best to track them back to their lair, they might have just been sent here."

At the news that she seems to have just fallen for a creature's trick, Alba crouches low, growling deep in her throat. "...Yes," she says after a moment, "let us find them and end them."

The tracks lead into the hills, towards rocky terrain, maybe they have den up here somewhere.

Dain follows Bella, especially as his legs are so much shorter than her's. Thus he brings up the rear, letting Alba claim the middle of the group.

Alba points out the trail on the rare occasion Belladonna loses it, mask concealing her face, casting her eyes into shadow. As the trio follow after the wargs, the green-and-brown scorpion in her pouch crawls out, crawling up her chain-armored side, then moving into her hair to come to rest atop her head. "Yes," Alba says, answering an unheard question, "all of them we shall kill. No, not because they made fool of me. ...No, I do not lie."

You can see the opening of a cave. As you approach, you hear a voice from within, "What snacks have you brought me? More cattle? SOmething sweeter?"


Belladona doesn't seem to be too bothered by the rocky terrain and she hears the voice. She frowns a bit and she looks to the others. She holds her finger up to her lip and she starts to sneak. Samafa follows after her.

The voice calls out, "Well you are not my...servants. But maybe you can still wete by appetite, come forth dinner."

Dain tries to sneak behind Belladona.. in thick, tricky hides.. His shield is away so that's a plus, but he does draw his warhammer. " Alba is coated in metal chain, and carrying a loop of heavier chain on one hand for a weapon. Sneakiness was never really an option, given how irritated the Veyshanti seems to be. "Bloated, legless, cowers in caves, bids its meal to walk into its gullet... tchah, weak and useless, come out and scream for your supper!"

Belladona frowns as she crunches on some loose stone and she swears as she hears the voice, "Well you'll have to come out and earn your meal."

"Because it is weak and craven," Alba hisses, the scorpion raising its claws, barbed tail quivering atop her head. Stretching out an arm she curls one finger to point at the tremendous creature, and a coruscating ray of sickly green light springs from her finger to strike the great wolf's chest, shriveling its muscles and drawing its skin tight over its bones. "See, how its size is but a mask to hide its coward heart!"

The wolf did not like to be attacked like that, even though it didn't do much to it. It leaps and lands in front of Alba and bites at her, latching on with its teeth and getting her a bit with frosty breath as well before knocking her to the ground.

Dain moves around the large beast and feels the sting of its teeth as it snaps at him while he draws close. But even as it bites into him, he brings the hammer down on its head, giving it a ringing blow as Thrud moves in to attack while it's distracted, missing.

Belladona takes out some herbs from her pouch and gently rubs them on Samafa as she casts a spell on her. "Attack Samafa." The lioness moves with enhanced strength as she bites onto the larger wolf.

The wolf turns on Samafa and bites into her despite the armor and freezes her a bit.

Scrambling to her feet, Alba's breathing grows rough and ragged, interspersed with low, half-mad cackling, despite the grievous, frostbitten chunk of flesh torn out of her side. "Think you fang and ice suffices to frighten me? Hehhhh... Claw out your eyes, bloated tick of a wolf... clean my teeth with your claws..." For all her bluster, however, her wounds are serious, doing a great deal to keep her from being *terribly* scary.

Dain grits his teeth and swings his hammer at the Wolf but misses. Thrud is more lucky, missing on the bite but landing two claws in its flesh. "You should give up... We might be able to find a way for the farmers and you to live peacefully.." he tries, suspecting it will be in vain.

Belladona takes out some leaves and she crunches them up in her hand as she casts a spell to produce flame. Samafa fulls attacks ripping into the wolf with both fangs and claws.

Alba's chain licks out, but whether due to the unbalancing effect of her fury, or loss of blood, her swing is wild and just misses the great wolf's flesh.

The winter wolf is managled by Samafa's attacks and doesn't like it so keeps focusing on her. The wolf rips another chunk with her teeth and knocks her prone, but Samafa doesn't appear to be moving, breathing still but not moving.

Dain using Alba's distraction, Dain smashes the winterwolf's rear with his hammer, allowing Thrud to get in the last claw swipe at the creatures throat, staining the thick white fur a shade of crimson. He huffs and puffs a bit. Looking over at Thrud and smiling at her.. it's almost like he was worried.

Belladona dismisses the produce flame so she can start to work on Samafa who was horribly hurt even with the mithral chain barding she had on.

The Winter wolf falls, "My masters will make you pay." it gurgles its last breath. By the time that Belladona gets over there, Samafa is starting to move and stir, the bleeding stopped as she is stable but not doing too hot.

Slowly settling down, Alba places a hand to her head, visibly sagging thanks to the crash from her fury, coupled with the shock of blood loss from the winter wolf's icy bite. Shaking her head, she loops the chain, returning it to the loop on her belt and drawing a thin, curved dagger from one of the four scabbards near her back. "Your masters," she says, beginning the first cut from the wolf's throat, sawing down toward its tail, "if they are wise shall know better than to raise our ire. If they are not... They shall join you upon the wall of my hut."

Dain steps away from the large wolf, and looks towards the cave, glancing inside with the shield and hammer ready just in case anything else is waiting for them. Then he returns, holstering the warhammer, and patting Thrud. "Somebody is getting extra meat.." he tells her as he moves towards Samafa, "Is your lion alright?" he asks.

Belladona shakes her head, 'Not really she'll need some healing, but for the moment she isn't going to die. If it gets any worse I'll use the scroll of healing I have, but i've got some herbs to help her sleep when we get back.

Dain nods, "I can help carry her, if you want.. It's not like I get any slower..." he points out with a smile as he pulls out his pipe and mashes in a bit of his rank smelling pipeweed.

"Help I would be, but I have not the strength to carry your animal," Alba says, sawing away at the winter wolf's flesh. "I shall return to the village, and speak of what had threatened them. Best that they know what they shall need to defend against, come the future."

You all manage to get the proof of the deed to the villagers and the guild and get your payments as well as thanks. THe farmers through in a sack of meat for each of you as well, dried and smoked to preserve it.
