EVENTS: Guf's Ma's Fin is scheduled to start RIGHT NOW!

The prestigious and well known Goblin merchant Guf, also known as Guf the Gregarious, and Grinning Guf, has offers a small part of his prestigious fortune to return to his ancestral home and locate the dear keepsake that his mother gave him, and preserved shark fin that was apparently of some value to him for some reason. The important thing is, he's offering money to get it. The party has been given a map that has led them into the Redridge Mountains not too far from Alexandria. The path looks relatively unused, and is a little too far off the beaten path to make for a good position to launch raiding parties from, thus not even the banditry seem to bother with it.

GAME: Arkun refreshes spells.

Celeste pages: Any posing rules I should be aware of?

<OOC> Bahken says, "Free pose for now"

You paged Celeste with 'I usually go 3pr for free pose'

"Why is it always some sort of mountain or hideaway or some place irredeemably remote that we end up getting sent to? Why can't bandits or monsters do the smart thing and just set up shop someplace nearby where we can easily just walk up, kill everything, and then head back home..." Arkun mutters, "But, money is money!" He states, cheering up at the prospect of the sweet allure of gold. He rubs his soft palms together as he treks along, his robes occasionally kicking up a little with the breeze around his ankles. "And I need money in order to produce those wands. They're ridiculously expensive. The cost of materials is simply through the roof."

Tiasa shakes her head, "Better to be in wild, less people hurt than if they near city." she says and shrugs a bit. The large sith moves along her tail swishing back and forth as she walks. She looks around a bit, eyeing the path for signs of anything that might ahve come along.

The stoic half-oruch that has joined the party quirks an eyebrow at Arkun's comments. She glances at the man, then shakes her head and rolls her eyes. "If you want to have people and monsters simply brought before you for you to kill, you are in the wrong line of work," she suggests. "travel to Charn, and sell yourself to the arena. As a gladiator, you will have foes to kill every day. In front of an audience, no less; and no great amount of walking to find them."

<OOC> Celeste says, "The half-oruch being me, since I apparently forgot to put my name in."

"Because then they would have to tolerate us as well as us tolerating them," Iuitl tells Arkun, not really understanding the purpose of his complaint by the way she answered it. She looks aside in vague interest when Arkun mentions wands, and nods in quiet thought afterwards. "Ahh, you could also live in Am'shere," she offers, helpfully, and fairly cheerfully. "You only need to step outside, there, somedays."

GAME: Iuitl refreshes spells.

Cheerful, off-key, reckless...

Ah yes. Blackjack.

Taking pretty much any job for the right amount of coin, the pirate lass has no issues meandering her way through the lands to reach the Redridge Mountains; however, it's rather likely that anyone travelling with her after the first hour or so is pretty tired of hearing about Whiskey Johnny in the form of badly sung shanty.

Over and over.

"O, whiskey is the life of man,"

"Whiskey, Johnny!"

"I drink whiskey when I can!"

"Whiskey for my Johnny!"

"Whiskey from an old tin can, Whisk--huh?" She's interrupted by Arkun's flappy-mouth-noises. How dare he. It was her turn!

It's always her turn.

She huffs out a disgruntled sigh in the witch's direction, then turns her gaze to the path she's been walking on, kicking a rock along with her skipping step. A brow quirks when Celeste speaks of Charn, "That aren't very sportin'. I mean... I'd win." She states, "E'erythin'. All th'time." She continues, without question. "They wouldnae e'en have th'chance t'get their knickers up."

It is a few hours of hiking, but the map steers you true and you find a crevace that leads to an area where vines and shrubs have grown rather wild. The map says there should be a cave behind those shrubs. The crevace area is a little thinner than 10' wide and about 20' long

<OOC> Blackjack ...raises hand, probably.

<OOC> Arkun says, "Blackjack."

<OOC> Iuitl says, "The Raven can speak Trade supernaturally, so it could call out to the whole party"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ahh, well then you haven't rolled YOUR perception check have you?"

GAME: Iuitl rolls Perception: (20)+1: 21

<OOC> Iuitl laughs.

You paged (Tiasa, Iuitl) with 'You both notice something.. a little patch of grass ahead, looks more like composte than the green grass that surrounds it. Blackjack seems likely to step on it.'

<OOC> Bahken says, "back to poses please, info has been paged."

Tiasa cocksher head to the side for a moment eyes narrowing, "Careful, that looks off." she calls out, though who she is talking to is uncertain.

"Do not step there," Iuitl speaks up as well to Blackjack, and even her Raven is about to speak, cocking its head to peer at the same spot. But it remains otherwise silent. "Suspiciousss," Iuitl speaks up quickly, hissing in a rare moment for her.

"Everything looks 'off' around here." Arkun states, having seen nothing. "And why would I want to go be a Gladiator? That'd be slavery. I simply wish for an easier path to profit." He waves his hand once before raising both of the hands up to tug at his hair, fussing with the long locks of hair as he tries to get it back under control.

Thankfully, he's still a bit behind Blackjack anyway.

The half-Oruch snorts loudly at Blackjack's comments. "Certainly," Celeste rumbles. "I've heard a lot of people say that. Frequently, just before I killed them." She quriks an eyebrow upwards as the warnings are being given; she doesn't see what the problem is, but she knows well enough to stop, anyway. Her shield is pulled off her back, and swiftly affixes it to her forearm, before drawing her trident. "What's the problem?"

"Aye, aye, I'm bein' careful!" Blackjack waves off the warning, but freezes in her step; one foot up, paused, even expression frozen. Casually, her eyes move to the side, and then down to whatever it is that's being gestured at.

"Awrigh', sae... now what?"

...An albino crocodile also waddles his way up the path, pausing in his step in mirror of Blackjack's movements.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Blackjack what's your Perception when you take a 20?"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "29"

You paged Blackjack with 'You see in a spot surrounded by lush green grass a spot that looks like composte. perhaps they just didn't want you to step in shit, but a closer look reveals a hole, just big enough for a booted leg with spikes inside.'

<OOC> Bahken says, "Info paged."

"Ah. Righ'. I see." Blackjack's upper lip twists in distaste as she sees the spike pit just the right size for her booted leg. She clears her throat, "Many grand thanks, m'friends!" She fires off a lazy salute even as she, and Chub Chub alike, take a careful step backward and reroute their path.

Tiasa shakes her head a bit, "They hunting, they lay traps like catching large prey, careful where step." she says as she watches closer now.

You paged Blackjack with 'It's a small trap, you can just step over it :P'

Blackjack pages: PSH. Dramatic side step and cartwheel to safety!

You paged Blackjack with 'As you wish :P'

From afar, Blackjack throws in backflips of dodging.

You paged Blackjack with 'I thought your acrobatics SUCKED'

Blackjack pages: WELL THAT'S NICE!

Iuitl takes care to step around the spike pit, her Raven craning his head from where he is on her shoulder as she walks by it to get a better look at it, fascinated by the hazard. The Sith woman doesn't spare more than the needed attention to it, minding only the pace she needs to keep up with the rest of the party.

From afar, Blackjack quietly cries.

Arkun gives a slow, lazy circle around where Blackjack was walking around, peeking over for a moment. He still doesn't see anything, so he instead simply shrugs and keeps up the pace, tutting to himself as he notices a speck of mud on the bottom of his robes. Oh, what a harsh life indeed. He exhales in a slow sigh as he finishes tucking his hair into the back of his robes, keeping it at least a bit out of the way.

<OOC> Bahken reminds you that there's still the shrubbery at the end of the crevace to be moved.

<OOC> Blackjack .. moves... it? :P

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ah ha! You just set off my trap card! j/k, but seriously, pose it :P"

The pirate, now away from peg-leg-making trap, sets about clearing the shrubbery from the end of the crevace. Blackjack is skilled in clearing brush, it appears, drawing her sword and reaping the poor greenery with wild abandon.

It looks like a few years of natural growth. As Blackjack keeps hacking though an opening becomes obvious and then two posts that were hidden under the foliage. They look... less pleasant.. like totem poles of skulls and bones.. possibly humanoid on either side of the cave entrance.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Perception checks again!"

GAME: Tiasa rolls perception: (3)+7: 10

You paged Arkun with 'Those poles look mechanical.. are those blades inside?'

GAME: Celeste rolls perception: (5)+5: 10

The cave itself seems quite dark, the 10' wide path stretching deeper into the cliff face beyond the poles.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Info has been paged."

You paged (Tiasa, Iuitl, Celeste) with 'Deeper in the cave looks pretty standard for a cave.'

Arkun pages: Do I see a trigger mechanism?

Tiasa cocks her head to the side, and seeing how dark it is inside she tries to focus her darkvision and use it to see further inside. She moves closer.

From afar, Celeste has dark vision, if that helps!

"I wouldn't, if I were you," Arkun states as he hangs back a bit, raising a hand to idly pet a small furred head that pops out from his robes, large ears pricking up before the creature nestles back in once more. "Those poles are for more than just decoration, I think there's some sort of trap involved in their construction. They've got blades inside of them."

You paged Tiasa with 'do you move past the poles?'

Tiasa pages: not yet, just up to them.

You paged Arkun with 'A careful examination looks like sizable pressure plates between the poles might be the trigger.'

Similarly to Tiasa, Iuitl tries to focus in the dimness of the cavern. Her Raven protests a little at them walking deeper into an enclosed space with a soft raven call, but Iuitl tries not to make noise while she follows the others into there, holding her longspear so it doesn't clatter against anything. However, she halts when Arkun speaks, hesitating and looking at the poles with widened eyes. "Ssss..." she hisses in minor frustration.

Arkun pages: Is there space to get around them?

You paged Arkun with 'Not around no'

Celeste is *just* about to walk into the caves, when there's a warning given about trapped totem poles. Trapped totem poles? Who does that? The half-oruch grinds to a halt, and grumbles in frustration. "Stop, go, no wait stop again." She gesticulates with her trident, pointing the weapon at the totem poles. "Don't suppose anyone here knows how to deal with that? Otherwise we're just walking through."

You paged Arkun with 'A jump over them is possible, but the cave roof might complicate things.'

"Well, whaddaya think's gunnae trigger 'em? Mayhaps we jus' roll some heavy rocks? Throw small children? ... Roll... heavy children?" Blackjack muses aloud.

Arkun pages: As Blackjack suggested, any heavy-enough looking rocks we could roll onto them?

You paged Arkun with 'Yep! It takes a bit to locate heavy enough rocks, but once you do, you can roll them onto the plates.'

"...Roll you?" Celeste suggests to Blackjack. So helpful.

"I aren't heavy." Blackjack frowns, exaggeratedly. "Ye'd dae."

"That's a grand idea, Blackjack." Arkun states, with a smile. "How about some heavy rocks?" He raises a hand and gestures towards Celeste, "You look strong and capable. You can roll them onto the panel from a safe-enough distance and set this thing off, and we can continue. How's that sound?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "All who's looking for rocks roll me a perception check to find big enough rocks."

GAME: Arkun rolls Perception: (20)+5: 25

<OOC> Bahken says, "Chubchub sits on a nice hot rock in the sun, and Arkun finds another that will do quite well"

GAME: Celeste rolls perception: (20)+5: 25

<OOC> Bahken says, "Two rocks is all you really need."

<OOC> Bahken says, "pose rolling them :)"

<OOC> Celeste says, "We all just rolled 20s to find rocks. When we actually *need* a 20 for something, we're all going to roll, like, 2. Maybe 3."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Quite possibly."

"Go get rocks, Chub Chub." Blackjack commands.

Chub Chub stares at her with one pink eye for long moments.

"GAE. GE'. ROCKS." She tries again, gesturing wildly.

The croc starts off, stops, looks back at Blackjack questioningly, takes another cautious step, and then fires off like the scaley waddling rocket that he is. It's a few moments, but he comes back pushing a rock with his rounded snout, grumbling out a noise that vibrates into the ground. He stops once he reaches a properly sunny area, hesitates, and crawls on top of the rock to lay himself down on it lazily.

"... Bloody useless lizard..." The pirate mutters under her breath before starting off to retrieve and roll the rock away from the pasty thing, even as he's snapping at her gloved hands and hissing out his disapproval.

"Oy! Yer last warnin', boyo. I'm in need'a some new boots."

Tiasa is too busy watching the cave itself to look for rocks.

Celeste chuckles softly at Blackjack's suggestion, and shakes her head. "I doubt you could lift me." She returns her trident and shield to her back, as she nods to Arkun's suggestion. "As you wish." She steps off the path, and promptly bumps her foot into one. The stone is ripped from the ground; the half-oruch pivtos, and from where she is standing, rolls it like a bowling ball into the mouth of the cave.

GAME: Bahken rolls 10: (6)+10: 16

Arkun has also found himself a rock. Sadly in a much less humourous method than Blackjack, as he pushes the thing along with soft grunts of effort, using his heel to move the thing along until he comes to a stop, somewhat near the start of the cave. He then takes a few steps back, raising up a hand to fan himself. "That's enough exhertion for right now. Oof."

GAME: Bahken rolls 1d8+1: (1)+1: 2

CLING! The sound of blades hitting rock and the sight of sparks as steels hits stone is Celeste's reward. One of the poles now has it's blades bare and a rock blocking the lower part of the entrance.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Going to roll the other rock?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "either one :P"

<OOC> Blackjack rolls it?

A similar CLING strikes the rock again causing sparks to fly. On the plus side, the traps have been triggered, on the minus side there are not naked blades and stones blocking the way...

<OOC> Bahken says, "err NOW naked blades.."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Sorry about that"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Feel free to ask questions"

"And there we go. Free access. Onwards, I do suppose." Arkun states, although he doesn't walk forwards first. Instead, he just turns his head to look at Blackjack, as if this is the most obvious thing in the world. He wouldn't dare to take the 'I'm first in the cave' thing from her. That'd just be rude.

<OOC> Blackjack says, "Um. ... since the rocks are infront of the blades, having stopped them, can I crawl over the rocks?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yeah.. it's tricky to do so, at least without cutting yourself on the blades (need an acrobatics check or an escape artist check"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "But, the blades are behind the rock? Couldn't I just climb on top of the rock and jump off?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Mulitple blades and the lowest is on the rock as the rock stopped the blade. You might be able to move the rocks with a sufficient strength check, but the blades would still be there. There would be more room to maneuver though"

<OOC> Bahken says, "<it's part of the trap :P>"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "I guess I'll try to move the rocks."

<OOC> Blackjack says, "And so will Chub Chub."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Roll strength checks :)"

GAME: Blackjack rolls 1d20+4: (14)+4: 18

<OOC> Bahken says, "But chubchub would risk damage btw"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "I won't risk that. So, I'll just try to do it myself."

<OOC> Bahken says, "You move the rock! :)"

<OOC> Celeste says, "Could I get a good hold on one of the totem poles and just try to snap it off at the base?"

Tiasa cocks her head to the side, "need any help with that?"

<OOC> Bahken will allow the attempt! It's a much higher strength DC though

Heroics!

Blackjack considers what is before her with a breath given as pause. ... then she bodychecks the rock she'd just rolled into the trap, grunting with strain, her boots shuffling about in the dirt. "Mmnnghnope! I'mnnnghh...RRRGHHNNGHHFINE!"

The blades shift a little further down, but there's some space to move. Still it would require some careful movement to avoid those blades as you pass through.

Celeste pages: Roll or pose first?

You paged Celeste with 'Roll first always'

You paged Celeste with 'That way you can pose your success instead of having to pose twice'

From afar, Celeste Nods. What am I rolling? Strength?

You paged Celeste with 'To snap the pole, yes'

GAME: Celeste rolls strength: (2)+4: 6

<OOC> Celeste says, "SEE WHAT DID I TELL YOU."

<OOC> Blackjack says, "Wah Waaah."

<OOC> Bahken grins

You paged Celeste with 'It seems ridiculously sturdy to you (who totally didn't apply proper leverage at all), no way ANYONE could ever break that.'

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ok, unless someone has a 'clever idea' TM, I'm instigating the 'move it along' policy. +roll escape artist OR Acrobatics, whichever you prefer to see if you bypass the trap!"

<OOC> Arkun says, "I have neither."

<OOC> Blackjack says, "I don't understand why we have to roll that when we already had clever ideas to 'disarm' the trap. :P"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "But, alright."

GAME: Blackjack rolls acrobatic: (19)+acrobatic: 19

<OOC> Bahken says, "No, you had a clever idea to TRIGGER the trap"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "s. +1."

<OOC> Blackjack says, "So, 20."

Celeste arches an eyebrow upwards, observing Blackjack's antics. She sighs, and shakes her head. Grumbling something in her native language, the half-orc walks up to one of the totem poles, and grabs it. She strains her muscles, grunting and snarling. The damn thing doesn't budge. "...Much sturdier than I thought it was," she comments, once she's finished trying.

Celeste pages: I'm guessing I can't try again?

You paged Celeste with 'Your character believes it would be futile'

Iuitl has some trouble working with her robes to get past it, but she doesn't get hurt in the process of bypassing the trap. She breathes a sigh of relief afterwards.

Tiasa cocks her head to the side and looks around at the others, as she hops over it, "Holler if needs help."

Arkun attempts to clamber over one of the boulders, bust manages to slip and cut himself along the side a bit as he gets himself over. He curses harder than a sailor for a moment, before recovering himself and tugging at his robes a few times. "Lets.. Just keep going."

You paged Celeste with 'So roll Acrobatics or Escape artist.'

You paged (Arkun, Blackjack) with 'So, yeah. the cave is f-ing dark!'

GAME: Bahken rolls 1d4: (3): 3

You paged Celeste with '3 damage for if and when there's a timestop.'

From afar, Celeste Nodnods.

You paged (Arkun, Blackjack) with 'Ooo, so, this area just past the blades appears to be a trap as well. The flying leap that might have taken you right onto this.. floor which is made to collapse.. It looks like folks at 5' further ahead would truly set it off, but.. where you are right now is not a good place to be, especially as your compatriots join you on the floor.'

You paged (Arkun, Blackjack) with 'In fact.. you each have one action you can do before it collapses'

You paged (Arkun, Blackjack) with 'What do you do?!!'

Celeste tries to make her way through the wall of blades; of course, being a half-orc, she's bigger than everyone else, and it doesn't entirely work out. She grits her teeth, and emerges bleeding from a cut on her arm, and another on her leg. "...Next time, let's find a way to get around traps that doesn't involve springing them," she suggests.

To (Bahken, Blackjack), Arkun pages: I drink my potion of jump and leap forwards.

To (Bahken, Arkun), Blackjack pages: Ditto.

You paged (Arkun, Blackjack) with 'That's a lot of actions, but I'll allow it. Don't forget the everburning torch though'

Long distance to Arkun: Bahken nods, "That's all I needed"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "You got a 20 to find rocks. :D"

<OOC> Bahken thinks we need Iuitl

GAME: Bahken rolls 1d6: (1): 1

<OOC> Bahken will let Blackjack and Arkun pose, then I'll go, then the poor poor saps left behind.

  • Creak*.

Arkun hauls up a torch, which sparks up into light as it's raised. With a frown, the man takes a tiny phial from his belt and slurps it down. He then leans and bends his knees and.. *Sproing*. He's suddenly leaping through the air like a grasshopper, knee's bent. "Whoops."

"... AYABASTARYEGETYERARSEAWEE!" Blackjack shouts as she feels something beneath her feet grow unsteady. She, like Arkun, quaffs a vial of some foul liquid, and bounces away forward into the cave. Wheee!

<OOC> Bahken says, "How'd Iuitl's reflex roll come out?"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "failed"

The floor just beyond the blades shifts and shudders as the two humans spring off of it, and then it collapses down 10' bringing the rest of party to a thudding presence at the bottom of the pit. All in all they could have landed much worse, still, there's a bruise or two that they can show to their springy friends and say 'see what you did!?'

<OOC> Bahken says, "free pose again."

You paged (Iuitl, Tiasa, Celeste) with 'Only 1 damage, so could have been much worse'

Tiasa shakes her head, "This seem lot of work for hideout." she says as she moves to work on climbing out.

"Th'hell's'wi'aw'this?!" The pirate dusts herself off, looking more than vaguely annoyed, staring across the pit at Chub Chub, then down at the others. Blackjack grunts softly, spitting out some dusty grit she's inhaled along the way on her epic adventures of trapdodging. "Startin' tae no' be worth m'time! That potion were expensive!"

Arkun looks behind himself as the pitfall opens and sends the others descending into it. His head turns to regard Blackjack for a moment, before he gives a sudden snort of laughter. "And people think that potions of jump are a waste of time, eh? Sure, taste like goats piss, /but/.. We aren't down there." He states this loud enough to hear, obviously. Buy Arkun's potions. He then leans over, "I agree. That potion /was/ expensive.. You lot want some rope?!"

Tiasa shakes her head, and just does a lot of grumbling. She can climb out easily, but she is willing to try and help others out.

GAME: Celeste rolls climb: (2)+4: 6

<OOC> Celeste says, "Seriously?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "It's good enough :P"

Iuitl tumbles down with everyone else with a great big squawk and howl, and hits the ground... she's got some scuffs and bruises, but the fall didn't do much else to her, besides make her seem grumpy. Her Raven gracefully floats down to land back on her shoulder, giggling at her smuggly.

The half-orc eyes up the wall, after picking herself up off the floor. She glowers at it, while listening to the various blah blah blah of the people who are not, down here, in the pit. She briefly considers the merits of raven stew. After a moment, she grunts, and shakes her head. Celeste digs her fingers and toes into the wall, and climbs up to the top, slipping a few times but managing it. "No rope neded."

<OOC> Celeste says, "needed."

Further within the cave is a nice little shanty built into the wall. A desicated corpse of a female goblin seems mummified there and in her hands is a preserved shark's fin with a face drawn on it in coal.. It's a rather sad excuse for a doll but apparently that's what it was. There's something more than a little sad about the son going off to become a successful merchant as his mother remains behind to die here in a cave, alone.. But such is life. Maybe it's just the way the skin's pulled back from her teeth but it almost looks like she's smiling.

<OOC> Blackjack says, "... so.. we done?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Pretty much unless you want to pose actually grabbing the fin from the cold dead hands"

<OOC> Blackjack says, "Sure. I'll do it."

<OOC> Bahken says, "The traps qualify as an encounter."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Would have been two if SOMEBODY hadn't kept making their perception checks..."

"... Aye, yer mine, ye are..." Blackjack turns, eyeing the fin in the mummymommy's hands. She gives her usual second of consideration, before pacing forward with grabby-hands at the fore. She snatches it from the goblin, like Indy snatches idols, and recoils with a hop back in preparation. "AH'LL STAB YE!" She yells at nothing in particular.
