Unlike most arrangements from the Guild, this one is being discreetly handled beside a storehouse in the commerce district. Just off the main road, in front of a side entrance where wagons come to unload their wares, is where you’ve been asked to meet. It’s only an hour after supper, and most of the businesses are shut down or about to do so. The contact you meet is a middle-aged dwarf, slender and tall for his kind, but no less solid and grim in his appearance. His black hair is well-kept, along with a shortly-trimmed moustache and goatee in lieu of a full beard. Dressed like a successful merchant, his ornate cane bears all the marks of being an elaborate scabbard for a slender sword, and it seems no pains have been made to conceal that. Neither does he seem to need it, aside from the presentation and practically of it. Also no effort was made to hide the expensive Dragonspitter holstered at his belt. He introduces himself only as Dmilov, his deep voice kept to a restrained volume, yet you are sure he could bellow quite loudly if he wished to. He gives all of you an appraising look, though if you meet with approval or disdain is something he keeps to himself. Two other dwarves are standing behind him, though their eyes are more on the surroundings than on you. Their hands rest on their scabbards as they warily keep watch, not saying a word while their boss speaks. “This is an uncomfortable and awkward arrangement; discretion is highly desired, but I am willing to pay a handsome price for both your service and keeping your mouths shut.” he begins, his tone walking that fine line between polite and commanding. “I find myself needing someone to watch over... someone... for the night. The details will be clear soon enough, once you’ve been brought to where they are. I cannot spare any of my employees for the task, nor do I trust common mercenaries, and I was not expecting... well... again, you will know that soon.” he says, obviously looking annoyed that he has to hold himself back. He gestures to a covered wagon drawn by two horses, that is parked behind him. “I would ask if you have questions, but I know you do, and none of them I can answer. If you want the job, the wagon-driver will take you there. Payment will be forth-coming in the morning. Otherwise, depart.”

Melon blinks a moment at the gruff and commanding dwarf's words, and the half-elf rubs the back of her neck. "Well...job's a job," she offers uncertainly, looking at the other adventurers gathered in the dimness. The mysterious circumstances of this escort job caught the attention of the young Elf Ranger known simply as Wren, and so she is found in the commerce district, her svelt form keeping to the shadows as she observes the dwarf, not saying a word as she regards him with sea green eyes, her bow in one hand, the other resting upon the flights of her arrows in their quiver.

The party that approaches (bristling with weapons and possibly the oddest group of comrades this part of the city has seen in a while) may not be the best for discretion. But hey, you get what you pay for. Eleria hangs near the back of the group, idly fingering the string of her longbow strung over her shoulder. Her mouth opens as the dwarf gives that puzzling job offer, and she glances from him to the cart and back again. Then she shrugs and takes a few steps towards the wagon, glancing back at her comrades. "Well, it's not the sketchiest thing I've done since I got here. Shall we, friends?"

Jeor arrives with his armor polished to a high sheen and wearing his customary sunburst tabbard. He presents himself to the dwarf with his helmet under his arm and a polite smile, nodding along to the instructions. "Before I depart, I will warn you. If I find evil I will destroy it." he says meeting the dwarves gaze. "Otherwise it doesnt sound like a problem."

Yaakrr stands at ease while listening to the dwarf, both hands clasped and resting on the end of the light mace at his side. He nods at the end of the briefing, only a ruffling of some feathers showing that he may not be too happy with the no questions part of things. "I do not mind protecting those that need it, and I do have some skill at keeping people alive." A slight caw after this is meant to be a chuckle. Looking around at the others gathered he nods to those gathered, whether he has met them before or not.

Wren looks to the others, before she approaches the carraige, "Well, let's get going, shall we?" her voice is soft, quiet in the night. "If you can't answer our questions, better that we get on our way. "

<OOC> Wren realises that in Chargen she missed out on setting one of her abilities and Whirlpool didn't ask her about it.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Which one was that?"

<OOC> Wren says, "Voice of The wood"

<OOC> Wren says, "Get to pick 2 level 0 druid spells that I can use once per day."

<OOC> Eleria says, "Same. I'm just keeping track of which abilities I have available, and when they're used."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Where is that ability from?"

<OOC> Wren says, "Racial Wild Elf ability."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, choose two spells and we'll assume you have them available."

Eleria pages: Create Water and Spark, for me.

<OOC> Eleria prepares the rest of her spells, assuming she'd prepare them before going to find the dwarf.

<OOC> Wren says, "Light and Flare"

Doloril was amused the job was with a dwarf, which of course meant that everything said was going to be a stretch of the truth. However, This dwarf wanted money and it doesn't take long for him to climb into the wagon and settle near the far corner. A pipe is withdrawn from a satchel and lit, smoke rising steadily into the air. <OOC> Eleria says, "That's...odd. I refreshed earlier, and now don't have all my spells available." Dmilov's eyes narrow on the paladin after he makes his statement. "You are welcome to it; this is not my town, just save your crusade for the morning." he remarks with a slightly gruff tone. The wagon-driver also appears to be a dwarf, though older and unarmed, and seemingly uninterested in his passengers as he solely waits for Dmilov's signal.

<OOC> Melon had spells from yesterday's PrP, but can't refresh now cause it's been less than 24 hours :B

<OOC> Colrick says, "If you need those slots, we'll handwave it."

Melon lets out a soft breath, and shoulders her artificery gear, climbing onto the wagon after Doloril. "Hello, friend," she offers, rather chipperly, before looking back at the others. "Ready?"

Eleria climbs into the wagon as well, finding a comfy seat somewhere, keeping her bow awkwardly adjusted over her shoulder. The older elf smiles at Yaakrr, gesturing him over to sit beside her.

Jeor nods to the dwarf and takes his seat in the wagon, causing it to groan a little under his weight. He smiles and nods to his fellow adventurers on this mission but otherwise occupies his time polishing his helmet with a cloth.

Wren looks to Yaakrr with a faint, knowing smile, sitting herself in a suitable position, readying her bow though as she does so. The young Elf Ranger is perhaps a little paranoid, it might seem.. But better to be safe than dead or worse.

Yaakrr hops up into the wagon and looks about to find a perch. At the elf's gesture he finds a spot near her. "Wind's Blessings to you," he offers before adding a "Ready." in reply to the wagon driver.

Eleria squeaks a little as the wagon jerks under her, and she gives a worried look to Jeor, hoping the wagon doesn't tip over if they take a corner too fast. When Yaakrr sits beside her, she turns to him. "Earth Mother's Blessings to you as well," Eleria says, a wide smile on her face as she offers a thin hand out Yaakrr. "Eleria, keeper of the grove."

Yaakrr clasps hands with Eleria and bows his head. "Call me Yaakrr. I am a Hunter of Gilead. Your grove is quite lovely. It is my pleasure to finally meet you."

"You're too kind!" Eleria gives Yaakrr's hand a squeeze. "I do not consider it my grove yet, as I've just recently arrived in Alexandria. But it is beautifully kept, isn't it? The druids here are quite talented. And you?" She glances from Yaakrr to Wren, including her in the question. "Where do you hail from?"

The driver silently begins the journey, the sound of hooves clip-clopping on cobblestone accompanying you as the wagon winds its way down small streets through the Commerce district. The distance traveled doesn't seem that far, but you're quite sure a few unnecessary turns were added to the route, so it takes nearly half an hour to arrive. Warehouses, stores, abandoned buildings, working-class tenements, and the occasional guild house can be seen as you pass by. When the wagon comes to a slow halt, you're in front of a three-storey home that's tucked between a cobbler's shop and some storehouse. A few lights are lit inside, issuing a warm glow from the windows looking out onto the street, and one armed dwarf stands in front of the door. "Inside, quick." is all he says, opening the door for you, before climbing up beside the wagon-driver. Through the open door youe can see the figure of a short woman, likely a dwarf given the circumstances, silhouetted by the light of the fireplace.

Melon stays remarkably quiet throughout the whole journey. Mostly she fiddles with her various contraptions, out of nervousness more than anything else. When at last they reach their destination, she hops up, nerves frayed, and climbs out of the wagon, uttering polite thanks in Khazdul.

Wren half turns to Eleria, smiling faintly to the elder elf before she responds, "Up until fairly recently I lived near elvengate, in the forests. I serve the earth mother. " as the carraige continues on it's journey, the young ranger turns back to keeping an eye around, caution taking over. "We'd better be careful. " when the carraige pulls to a halt, she looks over for a short moment, before hopping out, to enter the building as swiftly as she can.

Yaakrr mentions how he came from some Aerie in the Sky Curtain mountains and now resides in the Temple of Daeus, but doesn't say much more than that. When the carriage comes to a halt, he is happy enough to get out and head to the house. Good, stable, comfortable seats for one of the eaglefolk on a wagon can be hard to find. He takes a quick look around the street before ducking into the building.

Eleria beams at Wren when she speaks up, and introduces herself as hailing from Llyranost. The three of them fall into polite small talk about the grove, their respective dieties.

When they arrive at the house, Eleria peeks out of wagon...and frowns. "Not quite what I expected," she murmurs. Though she joins her companions in hurrying towards the house, nodding thanks to the guard as they enter. "Hello, ma'am," the older elf says politely once they're inside, "Are you the one we've come to see?" Jeor follows the instructions given and ducks through the doorway, carefull not to bang his head as he does so often. When he steps off the wagon it groans again now that his weight is off of it. "Indeed, some questions could do with answering."

Doloril stands and moves over to hop down off the wagon and make his way into the home, pipe still steadily pumping smoke into the air as the dwarf puffs silently on it. The others can ask questions, all he wants to know is the enemy, but he trusts no dwarf to give an honest answer.

She's not as old as Dmilov, and with softer features and bright red hair that marks as probably coming from a different clan than him. The woman looks a bit worried at first as you step inside, but the sight of Jeor's emblazoned symbol, as well as another Dwarf, seems to calm her at least a little bit. "Six... six is enough." she mutters to herself quietly, to reassure herself. "My name is Irna, you've met my husband Dmilov. And..." she introduces, before casting a look around the room with a mixture of worry and annoyance. "Kursko!" she shouts, which prompts a young dwarven boy to emerge from behind a dining table. "Stay in sight!" she admonishes him, the little boy appearing to be the equivalent of a ten year old human. "Yes, mother."

Melon pokes inside, and looks around, before nodding to the dwarven woman. "Pleased to meet you all." She smiles brightly at the young child, and waves enthusiastically at him.

Wren smiles quietly, positioning herself near to the door, and she nods to Irna, "So, lady Irna, it's good to meet you. I do not suppose that you would be willing and able to explain just what's going on that you need our help for?" The younger elf cricks her neck for a moment, observing the dwarfs with her deep green eyes.

Yaakrr nods politely to Irna and smiles at the boy when he runs in. Since others are already doing the questioning, Yaakrr remains quiet and contents himself with looking around the room.

Jeor bows to the lady and smiles, "Daeus stands with us, do not worry. How can we help you?" he offers the kids a bright smile too, "My name is Jeor Baeler, Sunblade."

Eleria steps to the side to let her companions come in, and her eyes wander curiously around the room. All the important questions are being asked, already... When the child comes out, she smiles and waves to him. The short elf is possibly not much taller than his mom.

Kursko shrinks a bit at the stranges, especially the sight of Yaakrr, but Irna steps over and tugs the boy over. "Go upstairs now." she directs sternly, pointing at the staircase in the back left corner of the room. The room itself appears to be a mix of living room and dining room, and occupies half the floor. The back room seems to be a kitchen, with an entrance out into an alley. As Kursko stomps up the stairs with a pout, Irna turns back to the rest of you. "Right... I don't imagine my husband spoke of anything, so..." she begins, before gesturing to the chairs situated around the fireplace, before taking one herself. "My husband's business dragged us into this town, and while he's off attending to a meeting, you will be guarding us. Normally I wouldn't be asking for a guard, but..." she explains, pausing to cast a glance at the stairs to make sure her boy isn't in earshot. "... two business associates both lost a child; murdered. I don't think we're in danger..." she says, though visibly not entirely convinced of that last statement. "... but it would do wonders to ease my worry to be protected nonetheless."

"Mother's Grace," Eleria murmurs, looking down to Kursko in shock. "Murdered?? Wh...why? Certainly don't know who, but... Is it a business deal gone bad?" Wren hmms, "I see. Well, we'll make sure of it, don't you worry about that. " Now the young elf flashes Irna a brilliant smile. "You're going to be safe. All of you. " then she looks over to Eleria "Hey, Eleria, could you head upstairs, keep an eye on him, ok?"

Doloril puts a hand over the pipe to extinguish it before storing it in the pouch once more. "Dun' much like kid kil'as. If its Dwarven bus'ness, ya bet'r believe its makin' someone mad."

Eleria nods to Wren, and heads towards the stairs, the less-than-imposing taking the steps two at a time. "Kursko?" she calls softly as she goes, her voice fading as she gets farther away from the group, "Don't be afraid..."

Jeor frowns "How vile." realizing he wont be expecting any combat soon he hangs his helmet on his belt. "Well I think the best thing would be to set up a watch. How many of your own guards do you have?" he asks with a polite smile.

Irna shakes her head at Eleria's question, her hands wringing in her lap as she speaks. "Gods' know my husband has enemies, but no. This was... monstrous. They were written all over with knife cuts; they think it was in Celestial. Who carves up boys and girls in the tongue of angels?" she blurts out, a bit too noisily, prompting her to cringe and hush up again.

Yaakrr tilts his head at Kursko's reaction to him and watches him go upstairs before turning his attention to the female dwarf. He bristles at mention of child killing, literally. It takes him a second once realizing that to smooth his feathers back down. "I understand your worry and hope we can help ease it with our presence. And should anyone try anything, I will gladly stand in the way to protect you and your young one."

Melon's eyes widen at this newest information, arms crossing in a little self-comforting hug. "Oh, Reos, that's awful! Well-- not to worry, we'll protect him tonight. No big deal." She smiles brightly, reassuringly -- but she looks pretty nervous and un-reassured, herself.

Yaakrr bristles again at mention of the profane use of Celestial.

Irna looks to Jeor with a little frown. "My husband took them all. He doesn't believe we're in any danger, since we're only passing through, and will be gone tomorrow." she replies, sounding a little bitter over that. "It's just the six of you."

Wren hmms, listening, and she frowns softly. "Disgusting. Still, don't worry, we'll see to it you and your family are protected. And if whoever is responsible does come here, we'll stop them for good."

You paged Eleria with 'You're now upstairs. It's a dimly lit hallway that connects a few rooms, with just a couple candles on one table providing the light. There's a second staircase at the far end that looks like it goes to an attic, and the opposite end of the hallway goes to a window that opens into an alley. There's four rooms in total, one of them is open with light coming from it, and you can hear the boy playing inside.'

From afar, Eleria creeps down the hallway, pausing outside the door to the boy's room and listening for a moment. She knocks lightly. "Kursko? May I come in for a moment?"

"Six shall be enough," comments Yaakrr. "We may not be those familiar to you like your husbands guards, but we take this seriously and I know that I for one will do everything in my power to protect a mother and child."

You paged Eleria with 'That room is open, so you can peek inside, and you see him with a few wooden toys shaped like soldiers. He seems a bit shy at your presence, though timidly replies "Hi" regardless. His window is shuttered and locked from the inside with a little metal hook. He has a bed and a dresser, but otherwise the room is unfurnished.'

<OOC> Colrick says, "When you want to fast-forward, after asking any questions, just let me know. I can describe the various rooms and floors of the house for you in a quick pose, assuming that you've explored around a bit, for the sake of time."

From afar, Eleria smiles and says 'Hi' back, leaving the door open as she comes to sit on his bed. She starts small talk with him, asking what he's playing with, maybe asking if she can play as well. (So we can just let this fade for a bit until something interesting happens)

<OOC> Colrick says, "Also if you have a plan or any arrangements you've agreed upon, you can describe it to me in OOC."

<OOC> Wren says, "ok, how many ways into the building are there?"

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "I think we'll take a bit to explore the house, check out all the points of entry on each floor, etc... yes, what Wren said."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Not counting windows, there is the front door and a back door in the kitchen. There are two windows in front, on each floor, facing the street you came from. One window on the second floor at the end of the hallway, facing the cobbler's shop which you can almost touch if you leaned out. There are no windows facing the back."

<OOC> Colrick says, "As for the second floor, the stairs lead to a hallway that runs perpendicular to the staircase, with two rooms on other side. The left end of the hallway goes to a window that faces the cobbler's shop, and the right side goes to a tiny staircase that heads up to the attic. A tiny table holds a few candles that provide a bubble of illumination that just barely reaches each of the doors, and Kursko's room is open and lit. The other rooms are dark right now, and locked, seemingly in use by Dmilov and his men."

<OOC> Colrick says, "The attic is one large room, dusty and cobwebbed, with nothing but wooden junk and old drapes. These two windows are much larger, and unlike the others, do not come with shutters that can be locked from the inside."

<OOC> Wren says, "Are mother and child willing to sleep in a room of our choosing?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "With only one room unlocked, the two are pretty much assuming they'll sleep in the unlocked room. That room faces the street, so it has a window, which is presently shuttered and locked from the inside."

<OOC> Wren says, "we were thinking of them sleeping in the ground floor front room."

<OOC> Wren says, "On principle of it being both defensible and escapable should the need arise."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Irna's a bit against that at first, since it's just chairs and tables down there. But she comes around eventually. She gets you to collect extra blankets, so that they can get more comfortable on the floor."

<OOC> Wren says, "we also clear a path to be able to easiluy get to the back door if we need to after opening the door to the room we are in."

<OOC> Doloril says, "is the home stone?"

<OOC> Jeor says, "I can make a path to anywhere in this house provided it doesnt have stone walls that are several feet thick."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Stone foundation, but the rest is wood. No cellar to speak of."

<OOC> Doloril says, "so nothing hidden in the stone outside as we walked in?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "None, it's solid quarried stone, hewn into shape. The walls are supported by pretty thick timbers. Overall sturdy construction."

<OOC> Jeor is glad to hear it, is a walking door to any part of this house.

<OOC> Eleria says, "I think the final watch setup is Eleria/Melon for first watch, then Wren/Jeor, then Yaakrr/Doloril. At the beginning of first watch, I want to make a quick patrol around all the rooms in the house and outdoors with Detect Magic, checking to see how many magic items we have around."

<OOC> Eleria says, "Or any magic effects at all."

<OOC> Wren nods about the watch setup.

<OOC> Yaakrr agrees with it.

<OOC> Jeor says, "Sounds good!"

<OOC> Colrick says, "No traces of magic inside, not outside."

<OOC> Colrick says, "*nor"

<OOC> Eleria says, "Good news."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, now for the next pose :)"

First watch went by without a problem, and now it's Wren and Jeor's turn. Irna and Kursko are bundled up in blankets and anything else they could find, and currently sleeping soundly by the dying embers of the fireplace. A few candles have been lit to bring more illumination to the room, to address the drop in light. It's been quiet outside, with only the faint sounds of passing wagons and drunkards to interrupt the stillness, but not loud enough to wake your charges. That comes to an abrupt end when you hear a loud thud against the back door, that shakes it quite thoroughly, as if someone hit it with a lot more force than just their fist. "Help..." comes a faint voice from behind it, just barely audible into the main room, accompanied by a few scratches at the wooden door.

<OOC> Eleria says, "Do we need to make rolls to wake up?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Roll Perception if you wish to wake up. If Wren and Jeor don't wake you themselves." Wren frowns at the noise, moving to awaken the others quietly, "Get up. Now. I don't know exactly what's coming, but best to be prepared for a fight."

<OOC> Wren says, "yes, i am waking them up"

Yaakrr's head is hidden behind a wing, which he moves aside when Wren nudges him. Looking up and around he stands and stretches, making sure not to make a silhouette in front of a window. That done he unlimbers his mace and small shield and readies them.

Eleria snorts awake, lifting her head up at the shaking and looking around blearily. "Whuzzah...whozat?" The scratches the whimpered call has her quickly and completely awake though, and she sits up quickly, fumbling for glaive. She nudges Irna and Kursko awake as well, whispering to them, "We need you two to get into the far corner of the room, alright? I'll cover you both."

Jeor nods to Wren, "Stay here, I will check it out." with greatsword drawn he heads for the back door. Doning his helm he carefully approaches the door, doing his best to occupy the hallway to make it difficult to pass him. Reaching out he opens the door.

Melon blinks sleepily awake, rubbing her eyes. "What...what's going on?" The half-elf yawns widely, sitting up. As she sees Jeor head to the door with weapon drawn, she pulls herself to her feet and draws her own ray gun, just in case.

A bloodied body slumps inwards as Jeor opens the door. A human man, his clothing torn and his chest bare, looking like a beggar who just got into a fight. On his back are shallow cuts, and though the blood is everywhere, you can still make out that it's writing of some kind. Aside from a groan of pain to indicate he's still alive, he does not move. Beyond him are the shadows of a back alley.

You paged Jeor with 'The writing is celestial, that much you can recognize, but you can't read it.'

Wren frowns at the things she can hear, taking up position behind Jeor, her longbow readied for any sign of an enemy. "What can you see, Jeor? "

Jeor catches the body and looks down the alley, raising his hand to detect anyone with evil intentions. "Show yourself coward, the light of Daeus will make itself known." he calmly tells the darkness as he helps the body to the ground, seeing to the wounds after he closes the door (Assuming he doesnt detect evil)

Doloril wakes up slowly, making his way to standing height, which by his age is a serious endeavor. Once awake and standing, the door is opened and a man falls in. The elder dwarf simply pulls his pipe out once more, lighting it and puffing slowly. "Well, Sum'dy read it?"

Long distance to Jeor: Colrick takes a few rounds to properly detect evil. But initially you can tell there is an evil presence, it will take a moment longer to tell where its coming from.

You paged Yaakrr with 'You can tell the writing is celestial, but that's as far as you can determine.'

Jeor pages: Alright, try to narrow down the source.

Yaakrr watches as the body slumps inside and aproaches. "I can look after him, keep an eye on the darkness," he tells Jeor while dragging the body out of the way.

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "Can I use Heal to figure out if he is dying? Or barring that I'll use first aid to keep him from losing any more hitpoints."

Jeor lets Yaakrr take the body while his hand remains raised to the back alley, "I feel evil... be carefull" he mutters as he concetrates on his shadows, trying to pinpoint the source.

Eleria keeps vigil over the party's wards, looking curiously towards the back door with her glaive drawn. She gasps when she sees him being pulled in, and she lowers her glaive, hurrying over to help Yaakrr pull the man fully inside, away from the door.

<OOC> Eleria says, "Same."

<OOC> Jeor assumes the body is pulled past him, outside his cone of detection.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Roll Heal, Yaakrr."

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Yaakrr rolls Heal: (8)+7: 15

You paged Yaakrr with 'The cuts are very shallow, just enough to draw blood, but otherwise he'd only need attention for keeping the cuts clean.'

Yaakrr tends to the wounded man and comments, "It does look like Celestial, but I can't make anything out of it. Sadly it is not a language I have learned..." He speaks idly while he inspects the injured person. "And it doesn't look like he is hurt too badly, just... marked..."

You paged Jeor with 'The oily sensation of wickedness becomes more clear... there's two presences in the shadows, directly in front of you, where your eyesight cannot pierce.'

Yaakrr pages: So non-letah damage?

Melon stays near the kid and his mom while others do their thing, gripping her ray apparatus tightly. "Well this is a fun turn of events," she offers shakily.

You paged Yaakrr with 'It's lethal, just not a big deal. He's in no danger of dying, save possibly for an infection if he's really unlucky.'

From afar, Yaakrr had to check. I've an ability to heal non-lethal damage.

Jeor pages: Do I know like the exact square they would occupy? Like I have a good target to charge? (hoping I would see the target as I get closer)

Wren remains stuiously quiet, looking and listening around to make sure of nothing else coming, say for instance from the street side.

<OOC> Wren says, "I take it that my looking may require a perception roll?"

Eleria steps back to let Yaakrr attend to the wounds. She glances over to Melon, down at that shaking death ray. She nudges the barrel a liiiiittle farther away from her and the others. "Yaakrr, I have a healer's kit in my things. How bad does he look?"

<OOC> Doloril says, "is it a language I could read?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Nope, you can't read Celestial."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Perfect"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, just give me a couple more moments."

Two men emerge from the darkness of the alleyway, clad in rags and ripped clothes, and seemingly unarmed. "Blessed are those that dirty their hands, so that others need not dirty them!" one of them exclaims with a reverent tone, before they both charge Jeor. In the main room, the stairs creak as several men descend them, similarly dressed like beggars, but clutching swords in their hands. "And the gods that weep will see our work and quietly rejoice!" they declare. Irna screams at the sight of the intruders, clutching Kursko to her as she scrambles closer to the fireplace.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Sorry for not being clear yet :) We'll be going through the init order, and I'll be calling out who goes next in the order. Just finishing up the opening state :)"

<OOC> Eleria nods.

Both of the Tattered Men rush at Jeor, seeking to strike with their fists upon him, but fail to connect solidly upon him. They're now both at the doorway, obstructing it.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Give me your actions in OOC first. Poses come after, once you know the results, to speed things up."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Eleria's up :)"

<OOC> Eleria says, "How many men can I see on the stairs?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "3, they're halfway down the stairs."

<OOC> Eleria says, "I move 10 feet away from the closest one, and try and hit him with my Glaive."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Attack roll."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Oh, that makes sense. Anyways, you hit solidly, for 4"

<OOC> Colrick says, "No need to re-roll this time."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Doloril is next."

Yaakrr pages: Roughly how big are the rooms? And the wounded guy is in the kitchen, yes?

<OOC> Doloril says, "so you said men coming down the stairs?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Kitchen is reasonably spacious, about 20' deep and 50' wide. The main room is 50' x 50'. The wounded man is lying by Yaakrr."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Yes, 3 swordsmen, dressed like beggars, they're about halfway down now, one of them injured by Eleria."

<OOC> Doloril says, "I'm probably close to them. Can I reach striking range?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "You are in the kitchen, I assume, since you commented on the wounded man. So it will take a move action to step out into the main room, but you can make an attack then this round"

When the men come down the stairs, Eleria is ready with wide eyes and shaking hands. Still, she moves to the foot of the stairs, glaive swinging at the closest man with the sword and slicing open the skin of his chest. "Turn around, demons! These people are under our protection, and you'll die before we'll let you take them!"

<OOC> Doloril says, "alright. I'll do that to get between them and eleria"

<OOC> Eleria says, "Does that effectively block them from coming down the stairs?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "You would have to stand at the base of the stairs, and even then they can just jump over the railing if they have to."

<OOC> Doloril says, "I'm only trying to attack, distract and cover ele."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Ah, wait, one sec"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, it's still possible for them to get around Eleria at the base of the stairs; they're wide enough. Since Eleria is at the base of the stairs, for Doloril to get between them he would have to go up the stairs a little bit. Is that what you want to do? Or just stand beside her?"

<OOC> Doloril says, "no, stand beside"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, did you want to attack as well? You have a standard action left after the move"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, that's a full round action, so it will appear at the beginning your next turn."

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "Yep"

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "Will last only 2 turns, but it'll be a nice distraction."

Wren remaining behind Jeor, takes aim with her bow, firing upon the approaching figure, the arrow slicing through flesh, albeit merely a grazing shot.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Two of the Ragged Swordsman, the one that was injured among them, press forward to attack Eleria and Doloril respectively."

Doloril puffs a final time on his pipe and drops it on the floor, pulling the massive warhammer from his back and rushing towards the stairs, swinging it up at the nearest enemy.

Yaakrr straightens up and reaches up to grasp the holy symbol at his neck. He speaks in Auran as he starts to cast a spell.

The injured swordsman snarls out something that sounds like a prayer to Daeus, as he mentions the Sun Lord guiding his hands, but it doesn't do him much good as Eleria's polearm keeps him at bay. His compatriot has less trouble approaching, but uneven footing on the stairs causes his blade to miss Doloril. The third, seeing the way blocked, hops over the railing and heads for Irna and Kursko by the fireplace, blade drawn.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Melon is up."

<OOC> Melon is going to make sure she's in the way of the two people we're protecting, use her free action to activate her Titan Armor for +4 Dexterity, and then fire at the nearest swordguy.

Melon places herself between the two huddled wards and their potential attackers. She fumbles into her leathers, hitting a few switches to get her Titan Armor to slide and click into place, and with her renewed accuracy, she takes a shot...and hits the wall, nowhere near the guys. "Shoot," she hisses.

Jeor raises his sword to strike down one of the thieves but hears the prayer to Daeus at the very last moment and turns his blade as he strikes, hitting the man with the flat side instead of the edge. Still getting whacked about the head by a man of Jeor's strength will certainly stagger a man. "Capture them, dont kill if you can!" he calls out to the others.

Struck so soundly by Jeor, the man barely manages to stay upright, but launches himself into one furious punch that solidly hits the paladin's shoulder, before collapsing from the exertion. The other ferverent man cries out "For Daeus' tears!" as he feverishly tries to claw and strike at the armoured man, to little effect. "For Daeus' tears!" comes another shout from beside Yaakrr, as the injured man rises to his feet and brings his elbow on on the eaglefolk who tended to him earlier.

<OOC> Colrick says, "He's knocked prone."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, now Doloril's turn"

<OOC> Doloril says, "I'm going to attack my same target"

From afar, Yaakrr has already looked up concentration and what roll I need to make against what DC, just making sure I have to make it.

You paged Yaakrr with 'Yup. And that's true, forgot about the check. DC 18, it looks like.'

Yaakrr pages: Yep.

From afar, Yaakrr will make it come his turn.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, roll it."

Eleria's eyes go wide when the other swordsman leaps down, and she lets out some loud, unintelligible curse. The short elf darts away, just barely ahead of the swords of the other two swordsmen who swing at her unguarded back, and she shimmies around the one approaching Irna and her kid. "Stay back!" she yells, voice wavering a little, even as she shoves her glaive between his legs and twists, knocking him to the floor.

Doloril sees the man jump the rail, but he isn't going to go chasing that one, choosing instead to focus his attention on those still on the stairs. The elder dwarf hefts his warhammer high and brings it down upon the nearest stair climber.

<OOC> Eleria says, "Imagine dropping prone on the battlefield to avoid gunfire."

<OOC> Wren says, "I am keeping my bow in hand, but KICKING him in the bollocks."

<OOC> Wren nods.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Do you have improved unarmed attack?"

<OOC> Wren says, "No."

<OOC> Colrick says, "He'll get an attack of opportunity on you, since this crazed fellow somehow appears to have that feat."

Doloril is cut, some of his beard falling out, rings clanging against the floor, robes torn and then blood. The dwarf picks himself up, grabs at the warhammer and speaks, "Noaw I know ye didn' jus' trim tha beard. BY REOS' ASS HAIRS YA GUNNA DIE!" Swing and a hit!

<OOC> Colrick says, "Another arrow sticking out of him, he doesn't look so good now"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Yaakrr, your turn. And your pet's last turn."

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "My pet and I will go up to the guy who just attacked Wren, and whack him."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Okay, the rat should have no trouble getting past Jeor at the door, so he can charge if you like. As can you, you got a straight line on him."

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "Sure, we'll both charge. +2 attack, right, and -2 AC til next turn"

Yaakrr hrms softly and blinks a time or two at the words the attacker says but that doesn't stop him from commanding his rat to charge the man and then a moment later the Eaglrin himself charges the man. "Do not profane the holy with your actions!" he shouts and glances a blow off of the man in the doorway.

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Colrick rolls 1d6+1: (2)+1: 3

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Colrick damaged Doloril for 3 points. 11 remaining.

"N-no... Daeus... preserve us..." rambles the badly injured swordsman, as he quickly backs up the staircase away from the enraged Dwarf. His compatriot keeps his nerve, inflicting another gash on Doloril. By the fireplace, Eleria's attempts to thwart the other swordsman haven't stopped him from grabbing hold of the boy, and now he has him firmly in his grip despite his kicking and screaming. Along with his sword held near his throat. "Back away! He's not yours anymore!" he shouts. "No! S-stop!" Irna shouts.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Melon, you're up"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Jeor, you're up. Wren, Ratty McRattersons, and Yaakrr are fighting one of these fanatics. There's one swordsman still dueling with Doloril at the staircase."

Spurred on to panic, Melon grabs a little gadget from her pocket and throws it on the ground in front of the swordsman. "Sorry!" she cries, as the brightly colored sand inside ignites and explodes into dazzling color in the swordsman's -- and the boy's -- eyes.

<OOC> Jeor says, "I wlill go for the one on Doloril"

<OOC> Jeor says, "Walk up and power attack his butt."

<OOC> Colrick says, "You won't be able to charge, since there's no straight line route, but you can take a move action to get there"

Now on the second floor, the assailant that Doloril severely injured is currently hobbling away. You can hear him hurriedly jogging as fast as he can, knocking over the mini-table upstairs which had the candles, and a few other odds and ends as he clumsily tries to escape.

Jeor turns with a swirl of his cape towards the man fighting the dwarf. "HERETICS! You blaspheme you dirty craven! I am Sunblade and will strike you down for the sins against the Shining one! Repent or feel my blade." he says striking down the assailant with his sword.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Round 4. The rat vanishes back to whence it came."

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Colrick rolls 1d20+3: (5)+3: 8

Not even making any sense anymore, the crazed man flails at Wren without striking her. Injured from the rat's bite, the grazing blow from Yaakrr's mace, and two arrows, all he can do is maddeningly advance on her. "Daeus weeps for us and we can do nothing why can't we do anything?!" he cries out.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Eleria, your turn"

<OOC> Eleria says, "How's Irna faring with her son knocked out?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Someone doesn't abide child-killers. Okay, unless someone intervenes this round, he dies at the end of the round."

<OOC> Colrick says, "Doloril, you're up."

<OOC> Doloril says, "whats left?"

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "The one I can't hurt :D"

<OOC> Colrick says, "One guy that ran away, he's upstairs. And one guy still standing, but barely, trying to beat up Wren."

<OOC> Doloril says, "do I have unobstructed LoS?"

<OOC> Doloril says, "to wren's"

<OOC> Colrick says, "You can move action into reach, and then attack, but not charge since you have to step around the base of the stairs first"

<OOC> Colrick says, "Unless you have precise shot"

Wren hops back again, raising her bow one last time.. "I've had enough of you." she snarls, loosing the arrow into his chest. "Die!"

<OOC> Wren says, "as he goes down then I put my bow away and draw my longsword, to slit his throat. We don't need them all alive."

<OOC> Wren says, "Unless of course somebody stops me."

<OOC> Yaakrr will put a hand on your shoulder afterwards, but probably not stop you. He did whack me after all.

GAME: You clear initiatives. GAME: Colrick has cleared initiatives.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Free RP resumes."

<OOC> Jeor says, "Hrm, Jeor will say something."

As the man who was attacking her falls, Wren narrows her eyes, shouldering her bow, and in a smooth motion she draws her longsword, standing over him. Snarling she raises the blade, "Scum. You're worse than even the undead, attacking children. You don't deserve to live." with that, she prepares to drive the blade through the man's throat and spine.

Melon lets out her held breath in a rush, and puts a hand on her head. "Good Reos." Allowing herself to take a moment to breathe in the new stillness in the room -- at least, compared to the frantic skirmish just moments before -- she finally turns to the boy and the mother to make sure they're okay. "Everyone in one piece?"

SPLUT! Eleria's glaive buries itself in the man's neck, ending his life quickly and easily. She wipes the blade on his chest, looking to the two dwarves worriedly. "Are you alright, Irna? How is Krusko? Is he hurt?" Her words tumble together with Melon's.

Irna doesn't even care that a man just died in front her, she's holding her boy tight to her, crying. "Wake up, wake up!" she murmurs to him, not entirely sure what just happened.

Jeor looks around at the people and sighs, sheathing his sword. "We need them alive to explain themselves. They invoked the name of Daeus in vain and I will know the source of these lies." He takes his helmet off and looks about. "We need to bind them."

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Eleria rolls heal: (18)+9: 27

Yaakrr moves over to Wren and lays a hand upon her shoulder. If she looks at him all he does is nod. "They are misguided and we should see why they invoked Daeus name like this." Taking his arm off of Wren's shoulder he heads towards the ones in the alleyway and comments over his shoulder, "Though we do have these other ones already..." Aside from the one Eleria slew, one is only unconscious, three are bleeding out but can be saved, and the sixth was last seen jogging upstairs.

Eleria's heart stops for a moment, and she drops to a knee beside Irna. Gently, she takes Krusko's head, lifting his eyelid up with her thumb. She breathes, patting Irna's shoulder comfortingly. "He's fine. Just overwhelmed. I think he'll come around eventually..." She looks back at Melon worriedly. "He will, yes? What was that spell you used?"

Jeor's command gets a blink from Eleria, and she glances down at the man bleeding out beside her. Um...oops?

<OOC> Yaakrr goes to Stabilize the one not sub-dualed in the alleyway. It will keep him from dying.

Wren pauses a long moment, her eyes narrowed, and she sighs, lowering the sword, "I suppose you are right. I shouldn't lower myself to their level. Bt I don't have to save his life. "

<OOC> Yaakrr will come back to that guy afterwards.

Melon kneels beside Irna as well, sparing a few glances at the other party members. "Well, we have a few alive enough, right? I have a healing kit, if nothing else..." She looks back to Irna and Eleria. "It was just a Color Spray contraption. He'll be alright in a bit, doesn't do any harm. Just had to get the big guy from taking him."

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "Provided said guy is still alive."

Yaakrr pages: Are both the guys in the alleyway alive?

You paged Yaakrr with 'Yup.'

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Yaakrr casts Stabilize.

From the kitchen comes the Yaakrr's call. "Can I get a hand bringing these two inside?" After making sure the one will not die on him, Yaakrr grabs him and starts dragging him into the main room. Wren sighs, moving to help Yaakrr, "Sure. We need to find out from these beasts what the hell's going on anyway. "

Eleria goes to help Yaakrr with the hauling...but stops, and glances up the stairs. "Didn't one escape up here? Jeor, would you like to come and help me check it out?"

Doloril moves over to his pipe and grabs it, relighting the pipe and puffing on it slowly. The warhammer is left near the stairs for now as he approaches the dwarven woman and speaks Khazdul.

Doloril says "<something you don't understand in khazdul>"

Jeor helps pull people in the main room and tying them up. Of course the bodies are no trouble for him to lift. "LEts tie them up and question them."

Yaakrr nods at Jeor and once the others are in the hands of the rest of the group he heads over to the downed man full of Wren's arrows. Perhaps the cleric holds a grudge over those who attacked him. If the man is still alive he tends to his wounds to keep him from dying.

<OOC> Wren says, "do any of you mind if I call it a night?"

<OOC> Melon doesn't mind. :)

<OOC> Yaakrr doesn't mind. I'll need to bow out in a few too.

<OOC> Melon has about a half hour left herself before she needs to go.

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Yaakrr rolls Heal: (14)+7: 21

<OOC> Eleria says, "Go for it. I'm gonna take off soon, too."

<OOC> Colrick also was hoping to wrap up shortly.

<OOC> Wren says, "am I needed for what is left?"

<OOC> Colrick says, "If you want to bow out now, you can. All that's left is a little bit of RP to close things."

<OOC> Wren says, "I don't want to cause you difficulty, Colrick with your plans for the plotline."

Seeing that Doloril has the dwarves well in hand, Melon straightens to go make sure that the threat is entirely past. That is, she goes to check if the other getaway is still around.

<OOC> Wren shall bow out then.

<OOC> Wren says, "good night folks."

<OOC> Yaakrr will throw out another Channel heal or two to make sure everyone is fully healed.

<OOC> Colrick says, "Thanks for coming, Wren :)"

<OOC> Wren says, "and thanks for the RP, it was fun!"

Eleria goes with Melon up the stairs, Glaive out and pointed forward cautiously.

<OOC> Eleria says, "See ya, Wren!"

Wren has disconnected.

<OOC> Yaakrr says, "Take care, Wren."

<OOC> Yaakrr missed.

The one that tried to escape seems to have exerted himself too much in his attempt. You find him unconscious and bleeding in the attic, not far from the window. It also seems that the attic window is how they entered, as it shows signs of being forced open, and was not fully closed.

Eleria frowns and kneels by the man up in the attic, working to dress his wounds. "Melon, could you please see to barring up the window?"

GAME: {TENEBRAE} Eleria rolls heal: (2)+9: 11

Melon nods, and goes over to the window, fetching things around the attic that will make do for barring it up and stoppin further entry.

You paged Doloril with 'Can you page that speech to me? It doesn't translate for plot runners'

Yaakrr waits for the others to return from upstairs. He goes over to Irna and Kursko and makes sure they are well. He will help out securing the prisoners as well if need be.

After some time, Melon and Eleria return from upstairs, hauling the body of the unconscious runner with them. He gets dumped unmercifully in the kitchen with the other bodies, to get tied up with them. "Ahhh...have any of them woken up yet," Eleria asks, wiping her hands on her tunic.

Doloril pages: I ask what she meant by not theirs any more

You paged Doloril with 'She tells you that she doesn't know why the man said that.'

<OOC> Eleria says, "Ah, no prob. :-) I thought you were waiting for us to start interrogating or something."

A minute later the effects of the color spray wear off, and Kursko regains his vision not longer after waking up. With that out of the way, his mother calms down to the point of being rational and able to speak, though still mostly keeping to herself and only really speaking to Doloril in Khazdul. Eventually one of them awakens, and tries in vain for minutes to try and burst free from his bonds. Afterwards his tongue begins to loosen, and his ramblings help put together a picture of what is going on. Though his train of thought is rather disjointed, and prone to him breaking out into spontaenous prayers to Daeus, he does talk about their leader who was lost in the Veyshanti desert, and had a vision of Daeus crying. He spoke to Daeus, and Daeus told him that he was incapable of cleansing the world of evil, because to do so would sully his hands with sin. And this man became enlightened and knew what had to be done; he would pull out evil at its roots. By roots, and the other things he says, it seems he means children. Ending the cycle of corrupt men and women by eliminating their offspring, so that they die without sin and dwell in heaven, before being corrupted themselves and perpetuate evil. Further interrogation doesn't yield much else, other than that their leader is still out there, and did not join them in their attack this night. No one really gets any sleep in what remains of the evening, but fortunately Dmilov and his men return only a couple hours later. To say he's surprised that anything happened is in an understatement, as he goes from shock and concern when rushing over to his wife and son, and then rage as he storms over to one of the bound-up, unconscious assailants; his men have to pull him off, lest he kill the man and make an even bigger mess to explain to the Watch. After he calms down, true to his word, he has one of his men pay you as promised. There's even a word of thanks, which from his gruff demeanour seems like quite the accomplishment.

<OOC> Melon says, "Niiice."

<OOC> Eleria says, "That is wonderfully creepy."

<OOC> Jeor says, "Ah no worries then, will try and get in on it if I can."

<OOC> Eleria says, "Sounds good! I'd like to be in on this. :-)"
