Attack of the Daeodon Starring:

Mara Eligar Gareth Rakim Nuanna Eligar

GM's Note: Nuanna was having connectivity difficulties during this scene; please grant her full XP, even though she was not participating in the combat, because it was due to the technical difficulties and not due to the player's will. Thanks.

A hunter has been savaged. He was hunting what he was led to believe was a wild boar, but what he found was much larger and nastier than that. Ripped open from groin to navel, he barely escaped with his life, and now lies in his hut, tended to by his wife. Wound fever has set in, and he is desperately ill. His eldest son has come to the guild for help...

When the redheaded youth came pounding on the door of the guildhall, out of breath and perspiring heavily despite the chill in the air, it took him precious minutes to gather his words and to gasp out, "please... someone... it's my da - there's a - a boar. An enormous boar... It..." he leans heavily against the wall, panting as if he's run with the demons of hell chasing after him. "Da's hurt, bad... we need help... our farm... it's..." The look in the lad's bright green eyes is one of pure desperation, as he looks around the room. "Will someone help, please?" he asks, swallowing hard. There are tears threatening those green eyes, and the lad's freckled cheeks are red from running and from the cold, and behind it all, there is a layer of fear. This lad is positively terrified, and trying very hard not to show it.

<OOC> Oliver says, "Please join channel RP1 for chatter. :)" <OOC> Mara is gonna be here now, honest. <OOC> Oliver says, "OK. :)" <OOC> Oliver says, "Free RP."

Eligar was sitting having a glass of wine and he hears the youth's plea for help. He stands up and picks up his shield, "I'll help you. I am Sir Eligar, Knight of Peace." He looks around for anyone else that will help, "I'll be outside getting my horse ready.

Rakim has been hanging around the guildhall, asking questions of some other adventurers about an elderly Lly he describes as his master. Also looking around perhaps for some work to cover his tavern bills. As the youth comes in he arches an eyebrow elegantly and glances over "And just where is this farm?" he drawls, his oddly accented voice soothing as he slowly and calmly approaches the agitated farm boy.

Nuanna is always eager to help but then she is trying to improve the outlook on her people, it is one of the things that Reos has her doing, and so she nods, "I will help." says the goblin, holstering her dragonspitter which she had been cleaning.

"UH'LL HHULP THU!" Gareth announces boldly from his chair, a mouthful of mutton garbling his speech. This seemed like good a place as any to wolf his dinner down, especially since he got kicked out of temple for getting grease on one of the tapestries (IT WAS AN ACCIDENT). Mutton leg in one hand, and his newly seized staff in the other, he rises. He doesn't have most of his kit, but luckily he travels light!

An enormous boar, huh? That sounds like a job for... well, someone who hangs around in the woods all the time. Which sounds suspiciously like Mara, the elf with the bow that's currently hanging out near the entrance, nursing a cup of hot broth. At the boy's gasping, desperate explanation, the white-haired woman pushes the cup aside and rises to her feet, joining the general throng of people drifting towards what looks like a setup for Adventure. She doesn't say anything yet, as the lad is likely already being pressed for information.

Audax cocks their head to the side and nods "I will help. Boars can be vicious and dangerous. It is like they're born mad." The Egalrin starts checking equipment and heads over to the door to see if anyone else is coming.

His eyes fill just a bit at all the help being offered, but the lad sniffs and rubs a hand over his eyes and through that unruly thatch of red hair. "I'll take you to our farm," he says, finally getting ahold of his breathing after some minutes. "It's about three miles west of town..." He looks at the assembling group with gratitude, and quite a bit of relief, tinged with worry.

"I will have to take a moment to pick up my kit. But I dare say I can catch up" Rakim says, although he looks rather less than athletically capable. Let alone capable of tracking. Either way he saunters out at a little faster than his usual languor.

Gareth pushes toward the door, "Let's go, Althea's grace will see to your father!" He actually sounds Paladin-ish for once, even going so far as to abandon his mutton chop (just one more bite). No pack for Gareth, but he at least remembered to put on his armor today!

The lad shakes his head, "Mum will worry... she almost didn't let me come, but da's getting worse... he's got a fever now..." he swallows. "She said I was to come straight here, get help, and come straight home... are..." another swallow, "are any of you healers? I don't want da to die..." twelve or fourteen years old, the lad looks, but at the mention of Althea, he nods again. "I'll take you there," he says, turning towards the door.

Mara speaks up. She's soft-spoken; typical elf in that regard. "We can help your father," she says, sounding all reassuring. It's an unfamiliar sound from anyone who's even passingly familiar with the standoffish Sylvanori. "Tell us about the animal while we're going?" A hand is placed on the boy's shoulder. Look at her go, she's being all nurturing! Too bad about the face; she's about as expressive as a block of wood.

"It's a boar... we thought it was one of our neighbor's boars gone feral, but... it's huge. Big as a horse, or maybe even a little bigger than a riding horse... like a knight's horse..." the lad explains, starting off in the direction of the farm. "It's mean - well, boars are when they go wild... but this one's meaner than any we've seen... it gored da - I don't know how he got to the farm, he was hit so hard. He said it felt like six wagons coming down on him," the boy looks up at Mara as he walks.

The hike from the city out to the farm takes the better part of an hour, with the wind whistling down, hard and fast. On the way to town, the lad had it to his back, but now it's a good strong headwind, slowing things down just a bit. Three miles might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but there at the top of a rise is the farmhouse, with a wisp of smoke rising from the chimney.

Nuanna nods, "Well shouldn't be too hard to track down." she murmurs and then they are travelling, she works her best to keep up one way or another.

Outwardly Rakim does not look that different, but under his coat is now a rather shiny breastplate and there are a few more lumps and bumps under his well-tailored azure leather coat. He also has a very fancy looking mechanical repeating crossbow to hand. Ebony with silver filigree patterns and some crescent moon decoration.

<OOC> Nuanna says, "back and may I try as well?" <OOC> Oliver says, "Sure" GAME: Nuanna rolls knowledge/nature+3: (12)+10+3: 25 You paged Nuanna with 'This is a dire boar.'

Eligar hmms a little bit, "Sounds like quite a hunt. If left alone it might hurt someone else." He says as he mounts up on his horse and he gets his lance out. He unfurls his banner, which is a peace of knight symbol, as well that sticks up from the back of saddle so that everyone can see.

Gareth packed light, so the jog isn't quite as taxing, though he pauses for a moment to catch his breath before he lurches forward to the cabin, breaking into a full sprint this time. No time for taxonomy, it's healin' time!

Mara does not look entirely pleased at the description of the boar. "Even dire boars do not usually grow that large," she muses. "We had best talk with your father, if he is well enough." She manages, somehow, to crack a small smile. "It will be all right. We can take care of both your father's wounds and--" and then Gareth is dashing towards the cabin, and she's left blinking. Well. Full points for enthusiasm.

GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature: (11)+7: 18 You paged Rakim with 'Dire boar' GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature+3: (17)+7+3: 27 <OOC> Rakim says, "Second is to IOD any weaknesses" <OOC> Rakim says, "er ID"

You paged Rakim with 'They often come in pairs, sometimes in herds, sometimes alone. Be wary. No particular weakness, but they are ferocious monsters, and very tough.'

Nuanna nods her head, "Sounds like a Dire Boar by the size and all, and we will want to be careful, rarely is there just one."

Audax swaps out the glaive for the bow, getting ready for any problems.

"And here I thought I was unsubtle" drawls the rather foppish Rakim as the Cavalier unfurls his banner. A faintly wicked smile crosses his delicate face as he adds "But who doesn't love a knight with a large...banner" he adds, keeping his face deadpan. He pauses here to nod town to Nuana "I believe our goblin companion to be correct, they often come in mated pairs, or packs. No real weaknesses, aside from the usual to sharp lengths of metal and magic" he adds whilst cranking a rather hefty bolt into position, the mechanisms moving surely and silently aside from the small click as the catch engages to hold it in position.

As Gareth takes off running, the lad follows after him, getting to the door just behind him and opening it, "Mum! I've got them," he calls out, and an equally redheaded woman, her hair piled in a bun on top of her head steps out of a second room. "Gilead be praised, Iain," she breathes as she sees what assistance the lad has brought, drawing the boy into a hug. "My husband is in our rooms... I've done what I can," she explains, "but without aid, it won't be enough... he's lost so much blood," she closes her eyes, presses her lips to the boy's head.

In the second room, there is a man with strawberry-blond hair, matted with perspiration. His eyes are closed, and dark rings shadow them like a raccoon. The man is bare-chested, and covered in blankets, and he is unconscious, his breathing very shallow. The woman steps over to the bed, and raises the blanket to reveal the wound, a messy gore that by some miracle missed the large artery in the man's leg, or he would be worse than unconscious. Still, it is nasty for all of that.

Gareth starts to open his mouth to correct the wife, but now's not the time for religious semantics or conversion. He fishes a talisman on a fine silver chain from a belt pouch and dangles it above the wound, chanting a short prayer in Celestial that causes the blue rose medallion at the end of the chain to glow a warm, radiating light.

GAME: Gareth used a Wand of Cure Light Wounds.

Eligar hmms as he starts to look around on top of Kindroth, his stallion. He looks around as he has his shield and lance ready as he waits to hear about the man's fate.

You paged (Audax, Rakim) with 'In fact, Audax has the eagle eyes for it. There are two sets of tracks.' GAME: Gareth rolls 1d8+1: (4)+1: 5 <OOC> Oliver says, "He'll stabilize with that." <OOC> Gareth says, "If that seems to help, I'll just keep going until he's healed." Rakim certainly doesn't look like a woodsman but his elegant motions reveal a certain professionalism when tracking as he squats down and runs gloves hands along some tracks "One -very- large porcine creature" he says, more of a snap in his curiously accented voice than a drawl as he frowns a little and looks over "Another set here I think. Opinions gentleman?" he asks, glancing up at the others.

As Gareth disappears into the cabin, the white-haired elf pauses outside, looking like she's waiting for something, staring into the underbrush beside the road. At one point - it's hard to tell what sets her off - she stamps her foot against the road twice, as if for a signal. At that signal, an animal creeps out of hiding. It's a snake! (Aaah, it's a snaaaake!) It's an -enormous- snake, easily the mass of a horse, and the elf simply steps up to it and lays a hand on its head. A series of movements with a finger atop its head serves as instruction, and then the animal is slithering right back into the underbrush. While Gareth is busy healing the man inside, the Sylvanori sets about hunting around for tracks, signs of animals' passage, and so on.

Audax says carefully "Definitely two..."

GAME: Mara rolls survival: (5)+13: 18 GAME: Mara rolls perception: (14)+13: 27 GAME: Rakim rolls perception: (9)+11: 20

Nuanna pulls her pistol and keeps an eye up outside while taking her own look around the place.

As Gareth prays, the man's wound begins to close; prayer after prayer, and eventually, his grey-green eyes open. "Kira? Iain?" he asks, looking around, vaguely confused. The woman moves over and takes his hand in hers, "Iain's brought us help, Marc," she tells him softly. "From the guild in Alexandria..." Marc looks at Gareth, and nods, "many thank yous," he tells him, clearing his throat. "Thirsty..." and Kira moves off to bring water.

Outside, there are definitely the tracks of two rather large (OK, enormous) porcines. They lead off into the woods, where the trees are thicker and the light dimmer...

Rakim nods his head to Audax with a faint smile "As I thought good sir, but always nice to be certain of the number of guests to these types of soirees" he says as he lifts one side of his hat and pins it to the crown with the Eluanite crescent moon. At the sound of the snake he spins rather quickly, crossbow coming up by habit. He stops short of the trigger as it seems to be some kind of companion animal "Rakim by the way, I work with the Temple of Eluna, in case one missed the blindingly obvious" he adds wryly. With that and a matching smile he looks about "If someone more stealthy would care to lead the way, or someone more armored than I at least" Audax nods to Rakim and keeps their eyes peeled. With a longbow in hand and an arrow resting lightly in ready, Audax appears to be quite ready for anything that should arrive suddenly. The Egalrin scans the area, looking for any high ground that might be of use.

GAME: Eligar rolls perception: (19)+12: 31

"Bar the door behind me. I'm sure we'll find this beast, but best not to take chances. And Uh...can I borrow a lantern? I forgot to bring one in the hurry." The Althean paladin says rather sheepishly as he pockets the relic and looks outside to catch up with the others.

Mara gives Rakim the sort of look reserved for someone who was just about to do violence to a cherished pet... but doesn't comment, instead stepping towards the edge of the woods. "I could scout from above," she offers. "That way we can cover a larger area." No mention of -how- she would get "above" to scout; surely she has an idea.

<OOC> Audax says, "What's the lay of the land? Any hills? High ground? Terrain that would be good for dealing with these beasties? Better to use what we got, instead of just wandering out to meet them on their own turf."

<OOC> Mara says, "I can Wildshape into a bird and cover a lot of ground scouting."

Kira nods to Iain, who dashes off to grab a lantern, while Kira sits next to Marc, and helps him to sip some water. At the mention of barring the door, she nods again, "Iain, see to it," she tells the lad, who brings Gareth the lantern, and a flint and steel to light it with. "Thank you again, sir," he says quietly, handing the items over.

The farm gives way to a forested area, not perhaps as thick as some woods, but thick enough. It is rolling hills and countryside, but well-covered in - thankfully winter-bared - trees.

It is into these woods that the boars' tracks lead, in a not quite straight path towards the west.

GAME: Oliver rolls 1d20+12: (8)+12: 20 {Perception for the Piggies}

Audax gestures towards one of the higher hills "We should take the high ground, so from there we can spot the boars and hopefully draw them into coming towards us. Charging up the hill will take away their speed and advantage. If they are as hostile as they appear, if we make enough noise once we are ready, they will come to investigate."

<OOC> Audax says, "Yeah, I'm gonna make Oliver look up the terrain rules for moving up hills and over uneven ground. :)" <OOC> Oliver says, "Heh." <OOC> Oliver pulls up the Core Rulebook. <OOC> Oliver has it and all the other books in .pdf format, thankfully! :) <OOC> Rakim waits on something from Eligar before posing? <OOC> Oliver says, "OK, trackless hills takes movement to half speed. :)"

Gareth catches up with his borrowed lantern in one hand, shepherd's crook in the other, huffing and puffing until he finally falls in line with the rear guard. "How are we all gonna sneak up on this giant hog? Can't we just leave some slop out and wait for it show up?"

As the group begins to move into the forest, Mara lingers for a moment. "Try not to shoot me when I come back," she says dryly. "I'd make a poor meal." And then she... turns into a bird. Yep, that's right: one moment a white-haired elf, the next... a largish hawk with a pattern of white feathers down from its head across its back, taking off with a distinctive call and winging its way into the woods in the direction of the tracks. Druids. No sense of staying in one shape.

<OOC> Oliver says, "Perception or survival checks, please."

Audax says simply "A good hunter waits for the prey to come to them..."

Eligar rides into the woods and he continues to look around for the dire boar it shouldn't be that hard to find if it's that big. He has his shield and lance ready as he guides his mount through the woods.

GAME: Rakim rolls perception: (15)+11: 26

You paged Mara with 'You see them. They're roughly 1/4 mile due west of your position, chowing down on... something that is pretty vile looking, you're not quite sure what, but it's probably carrion of some sort. There are two, and they are the BIGGEST boars you've ever seen in your life.'

You paged Rakim with 'You see their tracks, and as you come over a rise, you see them, down in a valley. They appear to be dining on something, and they are disgusting. And HUGE.'

Rakim casts his slightly cold eyes around the others at the various suggestions, at Audax's a wry smile crosses his scarred face "Rather sounds like my kind of plan. Hopefully we can get enough arrows and bolts in them that we can discourage further attentions" he ventures hopefully as he makes his way cautiously up to the chosen position. He blinks as the cavalier just heads off by himself "Well, dibs on his purse. Armor looks a little small" he drawls then when he comes over the rise he holds up a gloved hand to pause, and dropping into a firing position becomes others forward.

The hawk-that-was-Mara takes off like a shot, flying rapidly above the treeline and getting an excellent overview of the situation. Anyone heard the distinctive noise that's usually overlaid over pictures of eagles in movies? Yeah, that's a hawk's call. It's heard overhead as the druid returns, and then she's an elf again, and she simply points west. "Two. Unnatural-looking."

Audax moves towards a good hill to take position, for defense and for the view. Gesturing everyone else to follow, the Egalrin says "Let's take up positions here... we can even put sharpened stakes up to hide in the snow and grass, so when they charge they'll be slowed down even more.

GAME: Audax rolls initiative: Roll: 18 + Bonus: 4 = Total: 22 Rakim duck walks forward into maximum range for his rather fancy crossbow and nods to Mara on the way through "Eating something, or someone" he says quietly as he takes aim, letting others do the work for the moment.

Oh, indeed there are two. Two nasty-looking boars, with bristly backs and flanks. Flies swarm about them both, and the /stench/ they raise - or maybe that is what they are dining on that smells so horrid - but whatever it is, these are nasty, foul-looking creatures, every bit as big as the lad described. One flicks an ear, but for the second, they are both intent on whatever it is they are eating.

"Soo-eee! Oink Oink! Come on in, bacon for breakfast sounds good!" Gareth calls out a bit arrogantly, smacking his staff against a tree to make a little racket. Of course, once the boars come into sight, he shuts up real quick and slowly puts his lantern down to free up both hands for crook swinging.

Rakim keeps his aim carefully on the nearest boar and murmurs a soft prayer to the crescent moon. A deep breath. Hold it. Squeeze and the heavy bolt flies out, twisting in the air and leaving a large gouge down one side of the boar's flank. Calmly and automatically he cranks the lever, bringing another bolt down and moves to the back of the crest to take aim again.

An arrow flies past its head, and a second thunks into its thick hide. In a flash of tusks and fury, the daeodon turns and charges up the hill, a ton of bacon and ham on the hoof, red eyes roiling with fury. It won't get to the party this round; the hill makes its movements slower than they might have been.

As the party opens fire, Mara doesn't nock an arrow to her bow. Instead, she squats down, placing both hands on the grassy forest floor, and closes her eyes. Murmuring soft, encouraging words in a language that seems to consist of the whistle of air and rustling of leaves, the druid sends impulses through the underbrush, encouraging energies... and leaves, vines, grasses and roots break out of the snow, coil around the boars' legs and trap them securely. The area around them has suddenly tuned incredibly lush and verdant.

An angry squeal as the forest flooring rises up to entangle the second monstrous boar, and with a mighty wrench, she breaks free, charging up the hill after her mate. She will not reach the party this time, but she tramples the lush, verdant landscape in her fury.

Eligar sighs inwardly as the plants sprout up and try to trap the boars. He looks at Mara, "If the other one breaks out can you please dismiss that spell so I am not caught in it." He says as he wheels about, "I'll be setting up for a charge." He says as he moves his mount into position.

<OOC> Oliver says, "Audax! You're up."

Gareth's face scrunches up when the vines and trees go haywire and cautiously approaches, brandishing his staff as nears one of the entangled primordial boars. "Porkchop! Over here!"

<OOC> Oliver laughs! <OOC> Audax says, "Shooting at the entangled boar for the extra chance to hit, since it loses Dex and such."

Audax takes a deep breath and aims carefully, taking a shot at the boar that is still having problems with the entangled plants. Carefully releasing, the arrow flies towards the walking hotdog.

In contrast to his usual languor in combat Rakim has a deadly kind of focus. His deep dark eyes are cold and hard, his every motion made with a minimum of effort. Again he aims, draws breath, holds and squeezes. With the softest of sounds the bolt flies out and THUDS in the mobile bacon buffet solidly. With that he allows himself a small smile and a comment "I wonder if gravy or apple sauce is the best accompaniment to Dire Boar" he ventures as his gloved hands crank down the next bolt.

Angry grunts and a squeal of pain as the boar struggles with the vines that have wrapped around him... tossing his mighty head, he lets out a bellow, and at the mention of apple sauce, his beady eyes turn straight to Rakim and he rips himself free of the greenery, powering off in that direction... he won't get there yet, but he has his target now... and there is blood in his nasty red eyes!

GAME: Oliver advances the initiative order. Round Two - Init 12. It is now Daeodon 2 's turn! Eligar is next!

As the second boar tears free of the grasping vines and roots, Mara lifts her hands off the patch of grass she's been touching, and rises to her feet. Immediately, the tall grasses and leaves of the verdant area she called up retract, slipping back into their dormant states and leaving the huge area of effect as untouched as if the little miracle of nature had never occurred.

The fury of the bacon. The female daeodon is rolling now, moving swiftly up the hill. Still undamaged, her eyes are focused on the blurs at the top - she has yet to choose which one she will target, but up the hill she comes, with surprising speed for something so huge.

GAME: Oliver advances the initiative order. Round Two - Init 10. It is now Eligar's turn! Gareth is next!

GAME: Oliver advances the initiative order. Round Three - Init 20. It is now Rakim's turn! Daeodon 1 is next!

<OOC> Oliver says, "Which one are you going after?"

Eligar sets his lance and his mount charges at the boar. Thundering across the hill the caviler and his mount slam into the boar and the lance tears through the female boar. He rides on by and the boar can't even touch them. He'll rein in his mount to turn it around to set up a second charge.

<OOC> Audax says, "The one I have been tagging. The one trapped. #1?" <OOC> Oliver says, "OK. Pose it; it will still be up after your crit, but it's damaged." <OOC> Oliver says, "Badly." <OOC> Rakim says, "Okay are either of them NOT in melee atm?" <OOC> Oliver says, "The male is not in melee."

Audax takes aim and focuses as the weapon master had taught. Taking a deep breath, the moment of Zen falls upon Audax and the arrow flies true, sliding into the creature's open mouth to lodge itself deep within its body...

<OOC> Rakim says, "Shoot it, well at it :P" <OOC> Oliver says, "Roll'em." <OOC> Audax says, "Good pose? :)"

Gareth blinks as he is not attacked and the porcine pair speed around him. "You stupid ham hocks, me! Not the dirt worshipper or the gob!" And then the lovely carpet keeping the pork on the hoof is gone. Still it lets the Cavalier do his rather impressive thing, and the cleric charge in like a barbarian. And leaves a clear path for Rakim to take a shot. A soft prayer. A held breath. A squeeze and the heavy quarrel slams into the boar. A small smile spreads across his rather too pretty face as he calmly cranks down the next one.

Stupid? Who you callin' stupid? OK, the ham hock isn't so very bright - and it doesn't turn very well. It bellows up the hill, and would run straight over Rakim, except... it completely misses! Overrunning its target, it turns on its heels and bellows again, looking between Gareth and Rakim.

<OOC> Oliver says, "FUUUUUUUUUUUU#^@&!*^$!k."

A lot of things happen at once, now: dropping to a knee, Mara extends a hand to the side as if waiting for something. At the precise same moment, there's a blur of green and black scales as the huge snake that was accompanying the white-haired elf -springs- into action, quite literally. As it slips past the elven druid, she touches the hand to its flank, and as it goes, those scales grow visibly larger and thicker. Never pausing in its coiled-up charge, the snake impacts the male boar teeth-first, smacking meatily into the large animal's face. Immediately, it begins to coil itself around the boar. Horrible crunching noises ensue, as well as desperate squeals of panic and agony, which terminate in a sickening *CRACK!*.

<OOC> Mara says, "... ensue." <OOC> Oliver says, "*boingy-boingy-boingy-SPLAT!*" <OOC> Gareth says, "Standard horses have a better AC than that, I think. :(" <OOC> Mara says, "Anyone seen the movie "Anaconda"?" <OOC> Oliver says, "Standard horses have AC 11 with no armor" <OOC> Gareth says, "a classic Voight/Cube vehicle." <OOC> Gareth says, "Do they?" <OOC> Gareth says, "stupid horses" <OOC> Oliver says, "Page 177, Bestiary 1" <OOC> Gareth says, "Ah. Big thing hits hard! The female boar, oblivious to her mate's death throes, turns on her heels to charge downhill after the horse and its rider. Anger, eyes wheeling, furious snorts - and no aim! She blunders past, doing no harm to either of her targets.

Eligar keeps his seat as his mount dodges the boar. "Kiroth Attack." The horse reaches out to snap at the boar's thick hide ripping off a chunk before it rears up and it's hooves flash to kick at it. The kicks miss, but Eligar is able to bring down his lance and stab the boar.

Well now despite the size of the boar it is rather surrounded by people trying to smite it. Which leaves Rakim very little room if he cares about hitting his companions. Which does not tend to endear yourself to other people. So his rather careful aim manages to miss completely. With a soft sigh he cranks down another bolt and reaims.

<OOC> Oliver says, "/so/ close."

Twang! A white-fletched arrow buzzes through the air, fired by the silvery longbow the white-haired druidess carries. It smacks solidly into the boar's skull, inches from one of its beady little eyes, getting stuck in the thick bone and jutting out like a grisly ornamentation. Mara says nothing, merely draws another arrow from her quiver. Meanwhile, that rather terrifying green anaconda of hers is cusily disentangling itself from the corpse of the other boar, and looks about to coil itself up for another spring.

A final desperate toss of its head, as Mara's weapon strikes true. With its last gasp of breath, and the last of its strength, it rams its tusks into the biggest target it can find - and collapses in death, shuddering once before breathing its last.

<OOC> Mara says, "A heroic last stand!"

Gareth, having spent the last hour and a half jogging, praying the stabs away, running to catch up, and running around to beat on giant murder hogs, slumps down on the side of the hill and takes several deep breaths, "We're gonna need a mule team to haul all this meat!"

<OOC> Gareth says, "now let's hunt down some a giant wheel of cheese and loaf of bread and make a huge panini press." <OOC> Oliver says, "The horse is wounded. :) Hopefully not very badly... :)" <OOC> Eligar says, "Gie me a second" <OOC>Oliver says, "k" GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature: (20)+7: 27 <OOC> Rakim says, "Are these actually edible?" <OOC> Audax says, "Like any pork, if you cook 'em enough. :)" <OOC> Audax says, "Wait, are you jewish or muslim?" <OOC> Oliver says, "They're really big pigs. Mara simply replaces the arrow in her quiver and slings the bow over a shoulder, wandering over to the largest of the boars, the one that perished last. Leaning down next to it, the druid does something odd -- she presses her forehead against the boar's own forehead, murmuring softly in an oddly sibilant language. Meanwhile, the huge snake that accompanies her coils itself in a loose circle around the fallen male, almost as if claiming it. What, it can't honestly expect to eat the whole thing?

<OOC> Oliver says, "About 2000 pounds of bacon." <OOC> Oliver says, "4,000 pounds if you count both of them." Mara says <<Be at rest. May your spirit fly free.>> in Sylvan

Long distance to Mara: Oliver requests translation for the log? Mara pages: 'Be at rest. May your spirit fly free.'

Rakim calmly gets up to his feet and reloads the magazine. Slinging the fancy crossbow over his shoulder he saunters down to the others and offers a faint smile "Anyone have several tons of apples?" he offers to the group as he looks down to the two giant porcine carcasses "Perhaps some sage and onion?" he adds then turns his glance to Gareth "The farmer survived?"

<OOC> Mara says, "Actually... what were the boars eating?" <OOC> Oliver says, "Good question. :-p" <OOC> Oliver says, "Whatever it used to be, it's not recognizable anymore. Audax draws another arrow and moves back to the top of the hill, scanning the area to make sure the pair of boars were alone.

Mara then, as the next point of order, walks over to Eligar and his wounded horse. "May I?" she asks, pulling out a selection of herbs and bandages from a kit stowed in a pouch at her side. "These kinds of wounds should be seen to immediately. Boar tusks can cause infections." She moves to inspect the tear in the horse's skin.

<OOC> Rakim says, "IIRC they go to attacker" <OOC> Oliver nods. Eligar puts his lance into the boar's brain to make sure it's staying dead. He immediately dismounts and he gets out some bandages from his pack. He nods to Mari as he looks at the wound, "Of course go ahead." He says as he starts to bandage wound top the loss of blood.

Mara is clearly quite good with poultices and wound staunching; between her and Eligar's ministrations, the horse is quickly tended to. The white-haired wild elf gives her fellow Sildanyari one of her rare, brief smiles. "He will recover quickly."

Rakim is not really all that useful when it comes to doctoring horses so he lets those better trained deal with it as he scans around with a deceptive kind of idleness, but his eyes are keen under the bring of his cavalier hat, even if he seems to be paying more attention to the lace at his sleeve.

The horse isn't badly injured - just gored enough to let it know it was attacking something as big as it is. He whinnies and nuzzles Eligar's black hair, as Mara and Eligar tend to the wound. The recovery won't be long, but riding back is probably not the best notion. Still - the porcines are dead, and nobody else is. This is a victory.

Audax sees nothing, in their scan of the area; apparently two was the number of these beasts. These very large beasts. All that meat... the only question that remains is one: applesauce, or gravy?

Eligar nods, "Yes Kindroth is hearty and he has carried me through plenty of battles, I'm sure by tomorrow he'll be as right and rain. If not I'll mix in a cure wounds potion in with his feed."
