Dr. Fizzlefuse's last surviving assistant has sent word to the explorer's guild discreetly of a potential problem onboard a newly created airship, The Tempest. The Tempest made headlines for having a revolutionary new engine. The discreet nature of the assignment suggests that all might not be running as smoothly as initially anticipated The Tempest's maiden voyage which is scheduled 3 days from now. The Explorer's were requested to come aboard and proceed to the engine room.

<OOC> Rhar prepares Hit With Stick.

Fizzlefuse? Ohh, this can't be that good. Lothos throws down some tarot cards, getting himself a reading, and it says he should go, so he does. He signs up at the guild, and prepares to make the maiden voyage, and going to the engine room.

<OOC> Rhar says, "Is it the ame last assistant or a different one?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Same actually, though he does't go by Dr. Iceyesthatsit. Now he goes by Joooooohhhnnnn?"

Kiroth doesn't know much about airship as he heads down towards the engine room. He looks around and he wonders what they are here form most likely guard duty.

Margaret is on an airship! The blue-clad Althean priestess - having introduced herself as Margaret MacNeill to the other Adventurer's Guild representatives - keeps glancing towards the railings and studiously staying within reach of something solid to hold on to, clearly not terribly comfortable with standing on things that fly through the air. "Oh blessed mother, please don't let me fall off," she mumbles, keeping a white-knuckle deathgrip on her staff. Yep, she's looking decidedly green around the gills already. Promising!

<OOC> Bahken says, "I THINK. I got him out of the Random Hook Generator, so I don't know that much about him, other than my version is... crazy :P"

Airship! Engines. Rhar knows what one of those are, and she gets to look at the other one. Fun! More exciting than the engine? Looking out over the side! Then she can look down on everything!

The ship is... BIG, this was to be one of those impressive marvels. The crew moves about the ship always in a rush, never in a hurry, but as you walk closer to where they direct that the Engine room is, you see fewer and fewer crew.. And many of them seem unsure of exactly what goes on there, which is a bit odd for an airship.

Lothos frowns as he approaches, curiuos why there are not many folks down here. Top secret engine plans? New design? Something else? He hoes to find out soon enough.

GAME: Kiroth refreshes spells.

The crew being uncertain does not bode well for someone who's already clearly pretty nervous about the whole deal with "flying" and "ships somehow not in water". Still, the diminutive woman manages to make her way toward the section of the airship meant to house the engine; having tried and failed to get any of the crew to answer questions about who's supposedly in charge around here, Margaret settles for the more direct approach. "Uh. I suppose someone should go in there and see what's up." She glances around at her ostensible adventuring companions... and suddenly brightens up. She recognises at least two of them! Rhar and Lothos are given a little wave each.

Rhar would rather have the wind in her face. But there are things to hunt. Or protect. She's not sure what they're doing about the engine creature yet. So she follows along. Gurr, too... if he can fit throught he passageways. "Where engine? What engine?"

As you go down a set of stairs, a long passage and another set of stairs things feel slightly claustrophobic. It's not hard to see persay, but it's not bright either. Still, a ways off you can make out an obstruction between you and a brightly lit room beyond.

You paged Benthus with 'Np!'

Lothos lets Rhar go first, knowing she is a bit sturdier than he is. As they move forward he strains to see what the problem is ahead.

Kiroth follos the others down and he hmms as he hears the creak of the wood under the weight of his armor. He looks around, "I wonder what's up?"

"Rhar find light!" That's something! She points, in case others hadn't found it. Then she speeds up. Going towards the light.

Margaret is not a frontline combatant. She's wearing a robe that might as well be a dress! So the short redhead stays back with Lothos, letting the heavier armoured and armed people take point. "Careful," she cautions, probably unnecessarily. "Could be trouble ahead."

You paged Rhar with 'As you draw near the obstruction you can see its a pile of the planks from the wall and ceiling which appear to have collapsed. There's a pipe with a little bit of steam coming of it just over the pile and a hand (still attached from the looks of it) dangles out of the pile of debris.'

Kiroth hmms, "Why don't you let me go first...if anything happens I have a suit of metal between me and any bad guys."

Rhar points again when she gets closer and speeds up more. "Come! Need help! Rhar find hand!" But first she has to move big fallen sticks off of the hand. So she starts working on that.

<OOC> Rhar guesses Gurr can't fit down here?

<OOC> Bahken says, "How big is gurr?"

<OOC> Rhar says, "Large long. 8-9 feet long and a half ton."

<OOC> Margaret says, "That is a big Gurr."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yeah.. large would be a bit of a problem.. The room with the light is BIG, but those stairs to get their are narrow"

<OOC> Kiroth says, "Dats a big Gurr."

<OOC> Rhar says, "He's a growing wolf!"

<OOC> Margaret says, "You mean he's going to get even bigger? D:"

<OOC> Rhar hopes so!

<OOC> Lothos says, "So someone is trapped under debris?"

You paged Kiroth with 'As you draw near the obstruction you can see its a pile of the planks from the wall and ceiling which appear to have collapsed. There's a pipe with a little bit of steam coming of it just over the pile and a hand (still attached from the looks of it) dangles out of the pile of debris that Rhar works to uncover'

GAME: Kiroth rolls strength: (3)+5: 8

Kiroth reaches down to start to help Rhar with the pile of plants. He is trying to more carefully so that he doesn't bring more debris down, "I hope whoever it is is all right."

<OOC> Margaret says, "So uh... what's the obstruction, exactly? I don't see any description of it."

<OOC> Bahken says, "That's cause you and Lothos are still far far away, neither posed moving closer :P"

Lothos spots the other two move ahead, so he follows after them. He will keep by them unless told differntly, no point letting your fighters wander off too far.

You paged Lothos with 'As you draw near the obstruction you can see its a pile of the planks from the wall and ceiling which appear to have collapsed. There's a pipe with a little bit of steam coming of it just over the pile and a hand (still attached from the looks of it) dangles out of the pile of debris as Kiroth and Rhar work to clear it.'

<OOC> Margaret says, "I, uh, assumed we were indeed moving closer, just behind Rhar and Kiroth. :P"

You paged (Lothos, Kiroth, Rhar) with 'Any of you have k/engineering.'

Lothos pages: No, but human feat lets me roll untrained on anything with +2

To (Lothos, Kiroth, Bahken), Rhar pages: Knowledge? What's that?

You paged Margaret with 'As you draw near the obstruction you can see its a pile of the planks from the wall and ceiling which appear to have collapsed. There's a pipe with a little bit of steam coming of it just over the pile and a hand (still attached from the looks of it) dangles out of the pile of debris as Kiroth and Rhar work to clear it.'

GAME: Lothos rolls 5+2: (20)+5+2: 27

Lothos pages: Human improvisation

You paged Lothos with 'You see how to move the planks safely and can share that knowledge. We still need a successful strength check though.'

GAME: Lothos rolls intelligence: (1)+6: 7 (EPIC FAIL)

<OOC> Lothos says, "SOB"

GAME: Kiroth rolls intelligence: (7)+1: 8

Lothos starts to point to various planks, his hair extending from his body to start moving them, though strangely not doing very well. "Keep these over here still, move those first. Or more could collapse and hurt him."

<OOC> Lothos says, "The int roll was for creepyhair strength :)"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ahhh, I was wondering."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Just needs a successful strength check now"

<OOC> Rhar says, "Oh. You never asked."

GAME: Rhar rolls strength: (15)+4: 19

<OOC> Bahken says, "Way to make kiroth look bad ;)"

<OOC> Rhar flexes! "Rhar is strong. Gurr is strong."

<OOC> Kiroth says, "I loosened it for her"

With a mighty HEAVE Rhar lifts as Lothos directs and a gangly looking man tumbles out of the wreckage covered in dirt and soot. He looks around, blinking at you, "Oh thank god you're here.. I'm.. Jooohn, yeah.. I sent the request? You see, I helped install this engine.. helped design it actually, but it's a lot of work so I asked a friend if they could help and she offered me these little creatures.. well they

<OOC> Bahken says, "sorry not done"

"Well, they're VERY mechanically adept, but they're not very helpful, and.. and then they dismantled their cage, and now.. he looks back at the collapse then up at the steam pipe gently puffing out steam. "Oh.. oh no ohnonononono!" he looks back at the room with a light on, "OH NO!" And then there's a loud CRASH as if from an explosion. "IT'S LOOSE!" the man says and breaks away trying to run as fast as he can in the opposite direction.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Reactions please and we'll go to inits :)"

Lothos glances at the others and shrugs, then runs after the man to help him however he can. "Ohh well, better than letting the place crash."

Kiroth hmms as he sets aside the board nd he takes up his sword and shield, "What is loose?" He asks as he lets the man run by him. He moves towards the front to get in the way of whatever it is that's coming at them.

Rhar proves there's a man attached to the hand! She's good with sticks! She uses them everyday. So lifting and moving the big big fallen stick isn't so hard. "They? Cage?" And then the man is running away. "What loose?" She didn't see anything loose the way they came, so now she looks through the hold where the man was trapped, to find loose things.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Lothos? The guy is not running towards the explosion but away from it."

<OOC> Lothos says, "Ohh"

<OOC> Lothos says, "Then I run wherever Rhar runs :)"

<OOC> Lothos says, "I follow pack"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Hence, opposite direction ;)"

<OOC> Rhar says, "Pack is strong!"

<OOC> Bahken waits on Margaret for the timestop

<OOC> Bahken says, "Or... not..."

From the room with the light on a sudden sense of 'heat' follows the explosion and looking into the room you can see what looks like fire moving from left to right and stopping infront of something that looks like a kind of Huge stove.. and then the fire punches it, leaving a noticable dent. Then, illuminated by the firelight, the sillouettes of tiny creatures pass infront of the door, going from the left side of the room to the right side of the room.

GAME: Bahken advances the initiative order.

<OOC> Kiroth says, "Okay"

Kiroth is moving carefully picking his way through the debris. He can see the creature and he tries to get close enough to see the little creatures.

<OOC> Kiroth says, "Am I close enough to detect evil"

You paged Kiroth with 'As you get closer you can make out more of the room, it's about 50' x 50' with 20' ceilings..'

You paged Kiroth with 'Detect evil is a spelllike ability requiring a standard action.. let me number crunch though real quick'

Kiroth pages: At will for paladin.

You paged Kiroth with 'At will is the number of times per day you can use it'

Kiroth pages: All right no detect evil then

You paged Kiroth with 'you can use it though if you don't take a second move. so 15' then use it on the fire thing and the little ones'

You paged Kiroth with 'You won't be able to focus it this round though (the move action special)'

<OOC> Bahken says, "So Rhar, double move? What's your movement?"

You paged Lothos with 'Oh, and they have DR 5 and are immune to fire but you probably already guessed that'

<OOC> Lothos says, "Whats the range to the fire?"

You paged Margaret with 'Alright... Sorry to hear that.'

<OOC> Lothos says, "Ok, using my fly power I move up 60, and will Cast Wall of Ice to protect whatever I can."

GAME: Kiroth rolls diplomacy: (6)+18: 24

Lothos lifts off the ground and zips forward, as he does he speaks a few arcane words and gestures, trying to form a magical wall of ice, but the fire puts it out quickly. "Awww, come on!!"

Kiroth hmms as he sees the elemental attacking the stove. He casts a spell of protection on myself to help resist the fire elemental. "Please stop this destruction. If there is something in the stove that you want we can help you. Please let us help you instead of destroying this ship." He says as he moves forward towards the elemental.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ok, you just entered his reach (didn't pass through it). Are you speaking in Ignan?"

<OOC> Kiroth says, "Nope just plain old common"

You paged Kiroth with 'To your right, in a corner of the room you see another 15x15' stove, this one with little creatures pulling at the hinges and knobs. To your left is.. what looks like the remains of one of those stoves, blown apart.'

<OOC> Bahken says, "It is unclear if the fire is able to understand Kiroth's pleas."

GAME: Bahken advances the initiative order.

     Round Two - Init 5.
It is now Rhar's turn! F is next!

It is unclear if the fire is able to understand Kiroth's pleas.

<OOC> Rhar will move more and look for the screwy noises.

You paged Rhar with 'Question, do you want to risk an AoO from the fire elemental?'

Rhar pages: Not if I don't have to. Looking to the right and the other noises.

Long distance to Rhar: Bahken nods, "I'm putting you in the square by Kiroth then, inside. You're in range of the fire elemental's attack but no AoO. To your right, in a corner of the room you see another 15x15' stove, this one with little creatures pulling at the hinges and knobs. To your left is.. what looks like the remains of one of those stoves, blown apart.

You paged Rhar with 'That took a double move though to get there.'

Rhar pages: Ok. Are you using the map or something?

Long distance to Rhar: Bahken is for distances, you're 15' from the fire elemental to your northwest, (it's 15x15), 30' from the north stove and 10' from the east stove.

You paged Rhar with 'Since the elemental threatens 15

You paged Rhar with 'If you had chanced the AoO I would have put you right next to the East Stove..'

"Why open fire box?" Rhar sees the one exploded open, and moves close to ones not open. But not too close to the fire. Fire burns.

The Fire Elemental ignores Kiroth's plea for peace.. probably not understanding it, and again slams into the far stove, damaging it further, but only slightly.

The small creatures on the other stove though seem to be successfully dismanteling every safeguard rather directly, and with extreme efficiency.

GAME: Bahken advances the initiative order.

     Round Three - Init 11.
It is now Lothos' turn! Kiroth is next!

<OOC> Lothos says, "Can I identify the other creatures wih a free roll?"

Lothos looks around at the chaos, shaking his head, "Ok, this is just out of hand, never bring gremlins to a party." He speaks a few words, pulling out a small dried tentacle and tossing it at them. Suddenly black rubbery tentacles rise out of the ground, grabbing gremlins left and right and starting to squeeze.

The fire elemental again lashes at the little man, the first flying over it's head, the second slamming into his chest. The old flames have died away and no new ones have sprouted.. Despite the blunt trauma, it's pretty impressive going toe to toe with a fire elemental and not getting burned.

Kiroth slashes his sword twice and he takes out the huge water elemental. He frowns, "Artificers..." He grumbles, "Come on let's go tell them the ship isn't falling."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Free pose!"

The alarm is pretty obvious now, little tin tubes with wide mouths carrying the order, "ABANDON SHIP! ABANDON SHIP! ELEMENTALS IN THE ENGINE ROOM! ABANDON SHIP!!!" The one remaining kiln stays sturdy and strong, and if it wasn't for the little gremlins, all three probably would have kept this ship running on ample steam and air power.. Now though, it's likely The tempest will remain in dry dock until she can be retrofitted with a more customary engine.

Lothos stops giggling, coughing a few times and getting a seriuos look on his face. "Yes, yes. They are going to definatly need some repairs, and likely a new power source."

Kiroth moves up towards the top of the ship, "It's all right we've got the elements under control."

Lothos waves his hands around, "Yes, calm down, sorry about earlier. Just suprised me thats all. Its all fine now, well, the elementals are gone, but the engines going to need work."

The commanding officer seems quiet glad to hear that. It takes a few moments and a flurry of activity as men go down and verify the Paladin's report (as if he'd lie). The man seems not thrilled about the report of the two blown reactors, but he smiles at the adventurers who prevented a much greater catastrophy, "We'll make sure you're well paid..." he explains.
