It takes a day or two of relatively vigorous travel to make it to the spot. The owner of the 'Whistle While You Work' mining company was quite beside himself when this particular mine went dark with no word of trouble before hand. It could be giants, or some other savage race, but usually at least one Khazad would make it back to tell the tale.. not this time. So, explorers were sent to explore. Things seem quiet on your approach, nothing really standing out on the winding path till you're presented with the cave mouth to the mine with the claim sign next to it. Everything still in order.

"Odd that none of them would come back." The egalrin descends along with the rest of them, towards the entryway. "They're usually more careful about that sort of thing."

Yngvild is cheerful company, if not exactly quiet. She has a booming laugh, a repertoire of awful but amusing jokes. The less said about her singing however the better. And she doesn't snore at least. Despite her full armor and back she marches along steadily at the hard pace set, then when they reach the mine she falls silent from her hymn and unslings her hammer, just in case "Nothing obvious" the towering Aesir rumbles as she takes a better look around.

Kroth enjoys the traveling part of adventures, good exercise, fresh air. When they get to the mine, the oruch grows cautious, looking around for any signs of what might have happened. "We shall just have to go inside and find out whats going on."

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Do we have a rough map of some type?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Nope, as it was a new mine the paths were still being dug and discovered."

Daromu seems to be surprisingly speedy for a Khazad in plate mail, able to keep up but sometimes even ranging ahead.

<OOC> Bahken says, "If you mean the system... I uhh.. I'm not sure how to use it here :P"

"Which would mean," notes the bespectacles blond Vardaman, typically cheerful voice tinged with sadness, "that either none of the workers survived, or are simply too terrified to stop running and report back. Either way..." Her hand falls to her hip, drawing out a long-barreled, steel pistol with the Lady's scales burned into the grip. "We had best be cautious."

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Nah, just general map. And s'good. It just seemed something Jah would ask about. ^^;"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Likely one of the things that would have come back with a shipment had the mine not gone dark."

You paged Yngvild with 'Since you're looking around, give me a perception check?'

Having spent most of the trip peering intently at birds, squirrels, and various other sorts of wildlife while muttering to herself about taxonomy and trapping methods, Morasha is just as happy to arrive at their destination. "I think that caution would be well-advised," she agrees, and that's hardly a surprising sentiment coming from a diviner.

GAME: Yngvild rolls preception: (3)+preception: 3

GAME: Yngvild rolls perception: (19)+5: 24

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Nice!"

<OOC> Yngvild says, "More like it"

Jahnavi nods, and pokes her head in. ...then looks towards the Aesir, "Do you have a light, please?" she asks. She walks over, and if she finds something usable as a long staff, she'll pick it up, before nodding to Morasha. It's a quick, bird-like movement.

You paged Yngvild with 'Things seem VERY quiet. No animal tracks. No disturbance in the dirt in front of the cave mouth for days at least, perhaps longer.'

Daromu grins "How much light did you need?"

There is currently no light in the mine, which is unusual only in that if there are any human workers, there would usually be at least a few lamps lit.

From afar, Jahnavi's just looking for a long stick to wave ahead--say, in case of a dropoff. She doesn't have darkvision.

Kroth remains quiet while the others talk, mostly looking around. He slips his brass knuckles on his right hand, apparently expecting something to attack them sooner or later, likely whatever ate the miners.

Daromu reaches into a pouch and pulls out a flaming rock. She tosses it over her shoulder but instead of it flying, it starts orbitting around her helmetted head. She then readies her morningstar and will take point unless someone stops her.

Long distance to Jahnavi: Bahken nods, "There really isn't much in the way of wood growth of any kind in this area. the Khazad likely used coal for their fires. The sign with the claim on it is a wooden plank affixed to a thick stick but might be a bit cumbersome."

From afar, Jahnavi will take it. You can pry it in two, anyway. ^^;

"Enough for the rest of us to see by, I'd expect," Silmeria says with a mild, amused smile, and as the dwarf extracts a glowing bit of magical ember, she nods, apparently satisfied.

You paged Jahnavi with 'With rope and a light spell though, you could probably light up a rock tied to the rope and be able to toss it out.'

With a clatter of metal Yngvild bends down and run some dirty through her fingers "Hmm" she rumbles whilst getting back up and looking around "I am no scout or ranger...." she begins as she looks around "But it looks like we are the first creature of any kind here in days." With that she looks to Jahnavi, then as her fellow Cleric produces light she nods down to the smaller woman and readies her hammer "Well not going to solve it out here" she declares on her way to the entrance.

Jahnavi pages: Ok. :)

<OOC> Daromu says, "I guess I'm the only one who came with lights? :)"

<OOC> Yngvild has an orison for that :P

<OOC> Bahken says, "You've got multiple casters and odds are at least one can cast 'light' as many times as wont"

"...like that. Thanks to Angoron," Jahnavi gives a friendly click to punctuate it. She hasn't found a stick, but manages a rock and rope...and begins winding the two as they move. "Our khazad always spoke of dropoffs and pits, just past where you could see. If it is a new mine--they may not have marked everything yet."

<OOC> Bahken says, "But as near as I can tell you're the only person to produce said light. If someone lights up her rock, Jahnavi will have a light on a rope."

Morasha's /quite/ content to let someone else take point. Just about anyone else would do, really. She eyes the mine entrance and momentarily fingers the composite bow slung over her shoulder before, instead, taking the ornate sword from her hip and following along with the group. Her expression suggests she's hoping she doesn't need to use it.

"Oh, I expect there's light in plenty," Silmeria answers, slipping to one side and dropping back; the better to cover Morasha, should trouble decide to drop in from behind. "But best to have only what we need for the moment; one light may tell others we're coming, half a dozen surely will." Adjusting her spectacles, the Vardamen keeps careful watch over her side of the party, as they enter the mine.

Kroth grunts, "I can see in the dark just fine, if you wish I can take the front, to see beyond the light." He looks at the others, trying to figure who else might be good up front.

As Yngvild enters the mine, it's difficult to see much beyond the edge of the light. The mine begins with an opening leading into a tunnel some ten feet wide and an indeterminent distance long. The tunnel slopes down and is rather silent, creating a contrast to the sound of the wind outside which wasn't even blowing hard. The smell is musty, but smells largely of dirt and dust.

Yngvild was almost point by virtue of boldness. As Kroth semi volunteers she seems quiet happy to let him past her and take up position a few paces behind "Best perhaps I am not at the front. The Iron Mountain made me big and brave. Not observant" she says with a wide smile spreading under her helm.

Daromu continues forward at point, shield and morningstar readied. Eyes are peeled for any problems, but wearing platemail doesn't exactly make her stealthy.

You paged (Kroth, Daromu) with 'Your view is largely the same, there's just more of it. Things are hard to make out for Daromu at a distance though.'

The path is not straight as the miners worked with the mountain's natural veins to maintain stability and save on work time. Quickly the light from the above world vanishes.

The egalrin finishes winding the rope, before holding it up to Yng. "Would you mind? I grew up near these. They're deadlier than they look." She nods to the oruch, then back. "Thank you."

You paged (Daromu, Kroth) with 'Please roll me perception checks.'

To (Bahken, Kroth), Daromu pages: I have Low-Light Vision... :)

GAME: Daromu rolls Perception: (16)+3: 19

You paged (Daromu, Kroth) with 'That's why things are hard for you to make out at a distance.'

Silmeria pages: Roll perc as well?

You paged Silmeria with 'Not unless you have low-light or darksight'

From afar, Silmeria nod.

GAME: Kroth rolls perception: (13)+7: 20

You paged (Daromu, Kroth) with 'You think you can make out an opening ahead in the distance, what looks like a path and beyond it blackness, but not a wall'

Kroth raises a hand, stopping the group. He points ahead, "Somethings odd, there is...darkness up ahead, I can't see through it. One of you magicky people take a look will ya?"

Of course, Morasha's happy to have company. And particularly someone she already knows! She smiles across at Silmeria, but remains quiet for the nonce; her attention's easily captured by any insects, rats, or scuttling vermin of any sort they happen to run across.

Daromu pauses for a moment as she makes a small prayer while picking up a medium sized rock. The rock lights up and she throws it hard ahead of her to illuminate the path.

You paged Morasha with 'Oddly... there is no fauna'

Morasha pages: Intriguing!

The party can see the rock and the tunnel illumined by the torch light it gives off. It sales out 60' and then disappears beyond the edge of a path beyond an opening ahead. There's a soft, dull 'thuck' and a very faint glow coming from beyond the pathway.

You paged Kroth with 'The blackness was apparently a pit'

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Can we let folks get poses in >.<"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Sorry :P"

<OOC> Yngvild meant more other players "Yng can do light too :P"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Well Daromu saw the same thing Kroth saw"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Lighting things up was my response to my perception check, not his comment. :)"

<OOC> Bahken nods

<OOC> Bahken says, "And the rock sale accompanied her pose"

<OOC> Yngvild was waiting on her turn to pose

<OOC> Bahken says, "But I could have waited longer on calling for it."

Yngvild lifts a hand from her hammer to her holy symbol to cast the spell as requested by the birdy woman. Then Kroth speaks and she looks to the patch of darkness. About to cast herself it seems she is gazumped and peers down the corridor to look for trouble.

<OOC> Bahken admits, he's trying to balance between everyone posing every round and keeping things moving at a decent pace since there are six people. If I go too fast, feel free to let me know

Silmeria pages: Spellcraft or K/Arcana to see if there's a way to counteract the spell?

Jahnavi pages: Is K/dungeoneering for the sound and glow reasonable?

You paged Silmeria with 'The flying rock suggests the darkness isn't a spell, but a pit seen from far off'

You paged Jahnavi with 'Yes, I believe that would be the perfect roll'

GAME: Jahnavi rolls knowledge/dungeoneering: (3)+8: 11

<OOC> Jahnavi hah. XD

Silmeria pages: Ah, okay. First couple reads had it looing like a splat of magic darness.

You paged Jahnavi with 'Yeah.. little tricky to describe, it vanished as it 'fell' past the pathway beyond the opening'

You paged Jahnavi with 'mav'

You paged Silmeria with 'Yeah.. little tricky to describe, it vanished as it 'fell' past the pathway beyond the opening'

You paged Jahnavi with 'Seems to be a pit, with a bottom that's not ridiculously (like fathoms) deep'

"Sister Yngvild," Silmeria says as the great cleric hangs back, smiling to the woman, then Morasha. Eyes tracking the path of the lit pebble, she raises her eyebrows a bit. "So... pits are indeed a hazard, and might we have any way of crossing them?"

Jahnavi clicks her beak in thanks, and then looks down the corridor as directed. She takes a step forward, apparently curious about the sound and glow. She stands there for a moment, then shakes her head. "Could be a pit ahead. I can glide--but depends on what's there."

"Well my pack wouldn't quite fit a ladder" Yngvild replies, her low rumbling voice a little dry "I have some rope that maybe could be flown across...." with a clatter she shrugs her armored shoulders "Any carpenters about?" she asks with a wry snort.

Kroth nods, "Lets just get up closer and see what we are dealing with. I am surprised by a pit, though it could be for defense or something." He starts moving ahead to get a better look at this pit.

Daromu regrabs her morningstar and heads forward steadily, keeping her eyes peeled for problems.

Jahnavi nods, and if it seems prudent, will make use of the weighted light-on-a-rope. One foot after the other, as it were, and the aesir's comment about ladders gets a snort.

"How odd," Morasha remarks, and only then does she wake up to the realization that other people are commenting on things that she isn't. She explains: "I can't help noticing that there aren't any /rats/. There aren't any insects. There doesn't seem to be any sort of life here at all, which seems unusual even for subterranean areas."

As Kroth and Daromu near the opening they see it opens out into a wide chamber that doesn't seem to fit a 'new mine'. The opening they stepped through certainly does though. The path their own looks worn away where it would go higher and descends around the the pit down further to what appears to be a haphazard wooden floor build at the 'bottom' of the pit where the stone landed and glows quietly. There's crates, ropes and tools lying about above and below.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Perception checks and I'll wait on Yngvild to return"

<OOC> Silmeria spectacle-gleeeem.

<OOC> Daromu grins.

<OOC> Morasha distracted!

GAME: Kroth rolls perception: (15)+7: 22

Jahnavi looks quickly at Morasha. She looks to be taking the woman's comments very, very seriously--and then looks out ahead of them with a keen, worried look.

You paged (Silmeria, Jahnavi) with 'Not far from the rock at the bottom of the pit is what appears to be a giant spider..'

You paged Silmeria with 'It looks rather dead'

GAME: Yngvild rolls perception: (1)+5: 6 (EPIC FAIL)

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Oops"

<OOC> Bahken says, "There's a PIT?!"

<OOC> Bahken says, "aaaaahhhhhh"

<OOC> Bahken says, "j/k ;)"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "GUYS THERE'S A HOLE IN THE GROUND RIGHT HERE."

<OOC> Yngvild says, "AFK for foods, BBS"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Yngwild falls to her death?"

"That," says Silmeria, glancing toward the wizard, "is indeed distressing. ...Oh," she says, leaning over the rim and peering down into the pit. "Is that...? ...Huh. That is a very large spider, down there..." Dropping onto her haunches, she continues to stare about the edge of the rock's glow, lips pursing. "It's already dead, at least, so... that's something?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "No.. she just doesn't see what some others see"

Jahnavi lifts her wings, just enough, as she drops next to Silmeria. "Dead. ...something killed it. ...the khazad would have made it back, otherwise. Their diggers..." The eyes narrow and she looks down again. "Can anyone make out the kill marks?"

Daromu keeps guard while people examine the pit and contents. It would suck if everyone focused on the dead spider and whatever killed the spider snuck up to add bodies to the pit.

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Back, ssorry meds have to be taken with food or it is all bad"

"Spider?" mutters Ygnvild a little vaguely. She glances around and luckily at least she notices the pit, and she would make quite a mess with that fall and her size.

<OOC> Silmeria says, "S'cool."

Kroth didnt see the spider apparently, likely he spots it once its pointed out though. He shrugs faintly, unable to see why its dead, and looks around at the area. "Should we go down then?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Tis fine :)"

"If we want to learn what killed it," Silmeria says, rising to her feet and brushing off her skirts. "Or at the least, how it died. Probably best to go down, yes..."

Morasha actually sounds disappointed: "Dead? That's too bad. Can you see if it's a Mygalomorphae or an Araneomorphae?" She peers down into the pit herself, to see if she can answer the question just in case no one else does.

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "The spider is near the crates too, on the wooden floor?"

<OOC> Bahken nods

The path leads down, down, down into the pit. If the air above was dusty and stale, the air here is practically stagnant.. You reach the bottom of the pit and can see beyond the supplies and containers an tunnel leading elsewhere. Next to the tunnel is a torn two by four sticking up out of the ground. The spider is currently on its back with its feet in the air.

After having it carefully pointed out Yngvild can indeed see the spider "A what?" she asks Morasha, looking a little blank. She shrugs and marches down, evidently not too concerned about meeting whatever can kill a giant spider.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Oh yeah, one more thing."

"Sorry, I don't know the difference," Jahnavi replies to Morasha, and draws a polearm. She'll use it to tap along the pathway--just in case something gives. It looks haphazard.

About fifteen feet over the tunnel is another small tunnel with rails and a cart stop for unloading ore.

You paged Morasha with 'You'd need to get closer, you can barely make out that it IS a spider from up there.'

You paged Morasha with 'You'd need to get closer, you can barely make out that it IS a spider from up there.'

You paged Morasha with 'sorry about the double page'

Kroth moves down, looking around when they reach the bottom. As he spots the mine cart he heads over to look inside it, perhaps there is something of value still in it?

Silmeria pages: Check to see how the spider might have died?

Morasha grimaces. "Well, there's nothing much to be done about it but to go and look, I suppose," she says, and follows those who're on their way down toward the ex-spider. She doesn't look any too happy about this, and who can blame her? At the museum the spiders were all already pinned down!

You paged Silmeria with 'Heal would work or knowledge/nature.'

From afar, Silmeria has neither, so straight Wisdom check?

You paged Silmeria with 'Sure'

And down they go. Jahnavi goes with the others. Now and then, her wings clamp to her sides, and shudder, or look about the walls. But it's dropoffs she's worried for...so tap. Tap. ...and watch the light. The khazad back home had enough tales, it seems.

You paged Silmeria with 'I'll make it perception, it's kinda obvious'

GAME: Silmeria rolls perception: (16)+15: 31

You paged Silmeria with 'If you roll the spider onto its side you can make out the other part of the two-by-four that was ripped away and an attached sign buried into the back of the spider like a battleaxe. It's been left there with the dead spider.'

You paged Kroth with 'In the carts and crates that litter the bottom of the pit there are some dregs of metal, but despite being dregs they look darned impressive, silvery sheens that look almost magical. Metal that looks about as giving as skinflint Khazad.. but just scraps here.'

You paged Jahnavi with 'The path SEEMS safe.. and everyone gets to the bottom of the pit'

Daromu continues to take the lead, even if the direction is by concensus. She feels confident in her ability to take a hit with all her armor and dwarven skull.

Silmeria makes her way down the passage next to Morasha, eyeing the spider carefully. Peering at a glint of metal underneath the creature, and apparently entirely unaffected by either spiders, dead things, or dead spiders, she places her hands on the thing's abdomen and heaves up, revealing a sign, buried into the thing like a battleaxe. "...Well," she says after a moment, "someone was here, and put up a fight... but where'd they go?"

"And a curious weapon to use" Yngvild opines as she bends a little to glance at the wound Silmeria reveals. She hmms and rests her hammer on the ground "You would think if nothing more they would use their picks. But...." she trails off and shrugs "...if it was the miners anyway"

At the bottom--the only place to look--is up. Jahnavi does, circling slowly once they're there. Gazing at the walls. Now and again, she shudders. "They'd tell stories. The miners." She doesn't repeat the stories, just shudders again, once. Karve, a grisly visage leftover from a cave-in. The dark feylings who went around, loosening axles. She clamps her beak shut over the tales.

Daromu grins brightly at Jahnavi "What sorts of stories did these Khazad tell? I'd love to meet some someday... they sound like interesting people. Especially the Khazad-Mornir. Could you introduce me?"

Long distance to Jahnavi: Bahken corrects you, there's actually two tunnels also. one at the floor your on and the other a rail cart emptying station 15' above that. Up though is lost in the darkness.

Of course Morasha couldn't care less about who killed the spider and how, but she's completely absorbed in examining the thing once she gets a chance. She even puts her sword away so she can take notes, and may be trying to draw sketches. She'll pester someone else in the group to stand next to it so she can give it proper scale. "Perhaps it was thrown down here after it was dead?" she suggests absently. "Or does it not look as though it's sustained that much impact?"

Jahnavi pages: Ok. Sorry about that. ':)

You paged Morasha with 'Got the heal skill?'

Silmeria pages: Aight, can I see if I can figure out where the spider, or just the fight, came from? That'll give us a direction to head in, methinks.

You paged Silmeria with 'There's a tunnel on the bottom level and a tunnel 15' above it for emptying rail cars.'

"Just stories. Miner-tales." If the words or short, it's probably because she's remembering more of them. Again with the shudder. She looks towards the two tunnels, too. One is on the floor they're on, and the other's at a rail cart emptying station 15' up. Further beyond is lost to darkness. At length, "The rail cart entrance, or the one here?" she asks.

From afar, Morasha does not! Only Knowledge: Nature.

To (Bahken, Boshter), Daromu pages: Staff alt, coming in to peek and see if anyone needed help. Useful person and friendly. :)

You paged Morasha with 'Psh, your forensic science knowledge is lacking.'

From afar, Morasha nodnods. :D

You paged Morasha with 'Go ahead and roll the knowledge/nature'

GAME: Morasha rolls Knowledge/Nature: (6)+10: 16

Silmeria , already standing by the spider, frowning in thought and probably acting as decent fodder for Morasha's sketchings. "The one here, I think," she says. "...If only because we'll likely be glad for the room, and less danger of stray carts coming in quickly to say hello."

<OOC> Daromu says, "Now that Deadpool is here, we're all doomed I tells ya, DOOMED!"

Kroth picks up a small bit of metal from the mining cart, "Looks like they did some mining before things happened, but I don't see any large quantities. Do you think someone robbed the miners?"

Yngvild considers, then nodding in agreement with Silmeria starts clattering that way "I may need to borrow those glasses" she deadpans on her way past the smaller woman, her face carefully blank under her helm although her ice blue eyes twinkle.

You paged Morasha with 'More or less intact other than the 'axe wound' likely killed down here.. Possibly came up through the floor boards or down from the darkness above.'

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Considering my dice so far the arrival of whielpool makes me worry :("

<OOC> Jahnavi ;_;

<OOC> Daromu says, "So we came into the cavern from the mine tunnel and we're still there, right?"

Jahnavi looks up to Kroth as he speaks, and then nods in that quick, avian-like fashion, before turning to Silmeria. "Alright. If there's no objections, let's head that way." Morasha's sketches are bound to be interesting--the woman knows all sorts of odd names for spiders, after all--and she glances at them before looking towards the tunnel.

<OOC> Bahken says, "You're at the bottom of the pit which does NOT look like part of a new mine."

<OOC> Bahken says, "the Original tunnel and entrance into the pit DID"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Does the pit go anywhere?"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "We're at the bottom. Seems that 15ft above us, the miners broke into a cavern that probably seemed like a good spot for storage."

<OOC> Silmeria is guessing, at least. :3

<OOC> Bahken says, "It's been described a few times now, but it goes down to a wooden floor (you're standing on) and there's a tunnel at that level, there's also a tunnel 15' above it with rails and a rail car stop for unloading."

The tunnel at your level leads off from the wooden floor has a thick rope tied to a large beam at the top of the entrance, the rope leads further into the tunnel which is relatively short, not taller than six feet. The rope dangles not more than six inches from the ceiling at its lowest and appears to be secured regularly. From the rope hang lanterns, all out, all old looking.. really old looking. Along the floor is wooden planks similar to the 'floor' of the pit.

"Hm," Morasha says, after studying the thing for a while; "it doesn't look as though it was damaged by a fall. It might have come up from below, I suppose -- this floor doesn't look entirely solid. Thank you," she adds, to Silmeria, now that she's done sketching. Away goes the notebook and out comes the ornate sword.

<OOC> Bahken says, "It's alright, I've been redescribing it in pages so your not the only one that missed it. I think the spider got everyone's attention :)"

<OOC> Bahken says, "short being height not depthy"

Kroth grunts, "Lets just keep moving, no point standing around unless we find something worthwhile." He takes the lead again, apparently not scared, or maybe trying to act tough.

Yngvild does not approve of six foot heigh tunnels. Having to bend over she mutters curses under her breath, the ex-mercenary having a fair few to call upon as she leans on her hammer for balance and follows in the wake of Kroth.

Daromu chuckles "Anyone need a shot of rum to steady their nerves before we move on?" She looks fairly relaxed, apparently the dead bug not bothering her at all. Either she's very wise, not too bright or seen weird things in mines before.

<OOC> Bahken says, "The tunnel is also only 5' wide. so... marching order please :)"

The sword gets a keenly interested look--and then it's down the tunnel they go. Jahnavi takes place second or third, hand secured along the rope as they go. The lanterns--interesting, too, but she doesn't know much about any of that. It just...looks odd, you know? Maybe interesting.

<OOC> Daromu says, "I'll go first... I have light and rum. :)"

<OOC> Yngvild Posed being behind Kroth

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Kroth also posed taking the lead, so."

<OOC> Silmeria will take the rear, and keep our squishy closer to the middle.

Daromu looks over at Kroth "Let me go in front... I can take a hit better."

<OOC> Morasha <-- squishy

<OOC> Bahken says, "So, Daromu, Kroth, Yngvild, Jahnavi, Morasha, and Silmeria?"

<OOC> Kroth says, "Sounds fine"

<OOC> Jahnavi can take rear guard, too.

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Since plenty folks want front. Makes sense to have a guard at the back."

<OOC> Bahken switches Jahnavi and Morasha then

<OOC> Silmeria says, "And a reach weapon works great for hitting past folk. :D"

"I'll do better," Silmeria says to Yngvild as they file into the tunnel, "I'll show you where I got mine. Lovely little place," she murmurs, swinging toward the rear of the line and keeping her eyes largely to the entrance behind them.

<OOC> Jahnavi thumbs-up. :3

<OOC> Bahken waits on Morasha's pose then.

<OOC> Bahken says, "In the meantime, Perception Check!"

<OOC> Morasha is fine with her last one, go ahead. :)

<OOC> Daromu winks.

<OOC> Silmeria snrk.

You paged Jahnavi with 'You feel the wood squeak and tremble under the feet of those moving ahead.'

Jahnavi pages: Oh boy. X)

You paged Silmeria with 'You feel the wood squeak and tremble under the feet of those moving ahead.'

Jahnavi grabs the person in front of her. "Stop!"

You paged Daromu with 'quite a few level 5s actually'

The moment Jahnavi grabs Morasha, Silmeria's head snaps up. "The wood's not safe," she says. "Move very carefully."

Morasha, acutely aware of her own inexperience, snaps to a halt as soon as she hears Jahnavi's warning. "Ah," she says, a moment later, after Silmeria clarifies the situation. "Excellent advice. We may want to, ah, spread out a little further?" She's not /too/ worried on her own behalf, since she's lightweight and has no armor, but ... "Do you mean it's rotted, or is there a trap?"

"She's right." Jahnavi moves only enough to reach up, and grab firm hold of the rope overhead. The other hand lets go of the panic'd grip of poor Morasha's shirt. "It's shaking. ...I don't know how old this is," she answers. She'll stay put to follow the suggestion, and place some distance between her and the others. To hopefully ease the burden on the floor.

Kroth moves carefully, now in second place. He uses the rope or walls or whatever he can to keep his weight light on the wood, and avoids areas he thinks look weak.

Yngvild being huge, heavy, overly armed and armoured stops dead still at the first call and joins the others in spreading out. She also changes the grip on her hammer so she can carefully probe before her, then gingerly move ahead. She makes sure she doesn't put her full weight down until being as sure as she can it will bear her weight.

Daromu carefully moves ahead, asking "Anyone wanna give me the end of a rope? If I go through... you can pull me back."

<OOC> Bahken says, "For those 'carefully moving ahead' I'm assuming you're taking a 20 on your perception. Tell me what that is."

<OOC> Silmeria says, "35, total."

<OOC> Daromu says, "23?"

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "29."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Specifically the people at the front of the line :P"

Silmeria looses a quiet breath as the party's advance shifts, her own movements largely echoing Kroth's, just to be certain. "Jahnavi's got it," she confirms, "whether it's rotten or just loose..." Trailing off, she nods at Daromu's question, unslinging her travelling pack, and digging out a coil of rope. Holding onto one end, she passes the coil up toward the front.

<OOC> Kroth says, "My perception would be 27 with a 20."

Daromu ties the rope to her belt securely, knowing how to tie some gnarly knots as a sailor. Once secure, she continues ahead carefully.

<OOC> Jahnavi facepalms. XD

<OOC> Daromu says, "Well, that fairly well fucks me up... but I'm still conscious. Hit me with it."

Jahnavi pages: How long is this tunnel we're in? I mean more, if we managed to get to the end--could we reasonably throw a rope down from a more secure area?

Creak, crack, CRASH! Daromu just disappeared through the floor. The rope quickly goes taunt and Silmeria flies forward with her. After forty feet, Daromu splats into something gooey that isn't nearly deep enough to take the impact out of that fall. Silmeria ends up on her face, still holding the rope on the boards up above.

You paged Jahnavi with 'At this point, I think you guys should just pull the rope you're already using.. Sil was 50' back with the rope.. the pit is only 40', she's still up and so is the rope end.'

From afar, Jahnavi ok. I was just worried about the floor taking the pull. ^^;

You paged Jahnavi with 'Understood, if you want, use the over head rope to help secure it.'

<OOC> Daromu says, "I'm gonna have to burn a bunch of stuff to heal this. 6 hps left. Yay."

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Not the only Cleric :P"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yeah... wait till you figure out what you fell in..."

Jahnavi clamps her wings to her sides--there isn't a lot of room to begin with--and goes stock still as the two party members fall. Crap. Crap crap cra-- "Is everyone else okay?" Is the first question.

<OOC> Daromu says, "Considering I'm at 6hp, anything bigger than a rat can kill me at will. So healing is... pretty damned important."

Yngvild moves as fast as she can to take a hold of Silmeria, hoping she can get to the samller woman before she joins the dwarf down below "Fine" she rumbles whilst reaching for the rope itself.

Daromu stands up and quickly mutters a prayer to Rada for healing...

"...Thank you," she says as Yngvild bodily picks her up, and passes the rope to the much larger priestess. "Sister Daromu?" she calls ahead, "are you all right?"

<OOC> Yngvild says, "FFS CLERIC HERE"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Did I lose the con before I cast my spell?"

Meanwhile, Morasha edges back from where Daromu disappeared -- no sense adding more weight to the area when someone's already fallen though, however tempting it might be to go and have a look. "What's down there?" she calls up ahead to Silmeria. Always focused on what's important, she is.

<OOC> Bahken says, "No after, cause you took a move and this thing hits you once per round."

Kroth is surpised when Daromu falls through the floor, he moves to help the others, seeing if they need to pull Daromu back up. "What do we do, bring him up?"

"Can we secure their rope to this one, so they can climb up?" ...is the second, tense question. Jahnavi is tense. Especially tense with all of the TALES OF HORROR suddenly coming to life. There's probably a dead khazadi down there. Haunting the place. PROBABLY.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Oh, if your glowy rock is still around, you know it's some sort of green slime stuff"

Morasha pages: I do!

You paged Morasha with 'Please roll it :)'

Kroth wraps his arms around the rope, taking a few deep breaths and then jerks hard, moving back quickly to pull with his whole body. This of course pulls Daromu out rather quickly and brings him up to the top within seconds.

GAME: Morasha rolls Knowledge/Dungeoneering: (10)+10: 20 to Bahken

<OOC> Daromu says, "Kroth, you're the only male in this party. :)"

You paged Morasha with 'You recognize the slime as 'green slime TM!' it eats people, organics, and metal.. especially metal. It starts out soft but almost immediately hardens, so you have to move quickly. You can scrape it off with a sharp object but it destroys the object.'

<OOC> Kroth says, "Huh"

Morasha pages: Can I speak up to convey this to people? :>

You paged Morasha with 'It is your turn, so you may, you may also use your sword, or drop the sword, draw a dagger and scrape it off right now if you want'

When she catches sight of Daromu, Morasha's eyes widen, and she breathes a curse in some obscure language. Dropping the sword, she grabs a dagger from her belt and rushes forward -- a sight that might draw unfortunately reactions. Fortunately, she's quick to /not/ stab, but instead try to scrape the green stuff /off/ -- and then immediately drop the dagger down into the hole.

GAME: You clear initiatives.

GAME: Bahken has cleared initiatives.

<OOC> Yngvild says, "How much damage has Daromu taken?"

<OOC> Daromu says, "How many more times does it hit me before it's gone and how much damage do I take from having it cut/scrapped off?"

The Dagger drops away from a now mostly clean Daromu, the blade looking like swiss cheese as it sizzles and hisses.

Jahnavi holds still as it gets sorted. No need to threaten the flooring further.

<OOC> Bahken says, "It doesn't. 0 damage."

Silmeria pages: Yeesh...

<OOC> Bahken nods, "then yeah the code is wrong, but I'm oke with you keeping 16/16 The excess you had over 16 disappears

Daromu desperately tries to scrape all the slime off of herself as well, peeling off armor to reveal the spots where it leaked under the armor. She does not look good at all.

Yngvild shoulders her way fowards to check on the fallen dwarf, making sure mind you not to knock anyone into acid thing pit "Unexpected, but doesn't explain what happened to the miners" she rumbles as she kneels down by her fellow cleric. She hmms softly in thought as she carefully examines her, then reaches down into her belt and pulls out a small carved tablet. Laying it carefully on Daromu and the runes flare into a bright blue light as the stone itself crumbles to dust.

<OOC> Bahken says, "I don't count damage as a separate magical thing. it's a loss of hitpoints.. I may revisit that, but not during this plot."

Kroth looks down into the slime, "Unless the miners were disolved, but there would likely be more holes in the flooring here. I suggest we all link ropes with only fifteen foot between us at most. Just while we are on bad footing here."

<OOC> Daromu says, "Damage is temp and heals with time, Drain is permanent and only healed by magic."

<OOC> Bahken says, "you sure you don't need a roll on Lesser restor Yng?"

<OOC> Daromu says, "So you'll still need to roll..."

<OOC> Yngvild may have read the wrong entry >.<

GAME: Yngvild rolls 1d4: (3): 3

<OOC> Bahken says, "A good roll! She's only down two. We'll take care of that in a bit"

"It may, some," Silmeria offers, leaning to one side to mark Yngvild's aid, beaming at the large cleric as the runes restore Daromu's health. "Wonderful thinking, Sister..." Turning her gaze to the monk, she bobs her head. "I do agree, that's very good thinking. Does anyone else have rope enough to finish securing us to each other?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Keep posing :)"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Back to 14 Con."

<OOC> Kroth says, "I have a goblin army knife, it includes 50 foot rope"

<OOC> Silmeria loves that; it's a backpack full of adventuring gear, in a handy backpack-sized case!

"Does anyone have any fire?" Yngvild says as she dusts her hands off of the rock dust and straightens as much as she can "We should try to get rid of that, whatever it is" she adds with a blaeful glance down at the slime pit.

Looking mournfully down into the pit where the dagger that belonged to her great-great-great-grandfather is now dissolving into another chunk of green slime, Morasha's attention is snapped back to the present by this question: "I have some spidersilk on hand," she says, "though I'd rather keep it for use with a spell unless we haven't any more." Meanwhile, she crosses back over to retrieve her dropped sword. "But I didn't think to bring any fire."

"If we start a fire--we'll be trapped in smoke." Jahnavi grips the rope over head. If it's loose enough, she'll twist it once around her hand, as she goes. "Everyone ready?"

Long distance to Jahnavi: Bahken so appreciates that, FROM THE START, you noticed and used the rope :P

Kroth works on securing himself with the rope, making sure he can remove the knot if need be, or he could cut it perhaps. He will wait for everyone to be ready before trying to move ahead.

From afar, Jahnavi hah. ^^;

Daromu quickly pulls a torch out of her pack and lights it up with a flint and steel. She runs the torch over her platemail, to make sure it's clean before getting armed up again. After about five minutes, she's ready to keep going.

Daromu pauses "Before we move on, shouldn't we burn out this patch? Just in case we have to come back in a hurry and someone else falls in?"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Actually question, Bahken."

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Would, say, ten to twenty gallons worth of water do any harm to the thing?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yes"

"Underground tunnels act like chimneys," Jahnavi replies, shortly, "And we're above it."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Dilute it, but it's more or less a mold.. it would replicate eventually and take over the body and just be a bigger pool of green slime"

<OOC> Silmeria nod.

<OOC> Bahken says, "If you had someplace to flush it too.. but... no Interestingly, it might have started as a little puddle and just kept eating its way down little by little.. until.. 40' later :P"

Yngvild considers Jahnavi's reply for a moment then looks down "Depends how much smoke it makes..." she says with a shrug of her heavy shoulders "...not that I know muich about mining. Ain't built for it" she admits with a bark of laugher as she ropes herself with the others "Best hope I ain't the one to fall" she says with a pat to her stomach, although like the dwarf outweighhs her.

"Best to let it lie for now," Silmeria agrees. If we need to, we can burn it on our way out. In the meantime, we should probably press on. Carefully."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Plans for crossing the 10' pit?"

<OOC> Kroth says, "Whos lightest?"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Ain't me."

<OOC> Bahken says, "the mage"

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Is the secured rope overhead the pit sturdy enough to hand-past-hand it?"

<OOC> Daromu says, "Since we're in a mine, where did they store the wooding bracings?"

"I've read that some species can generate toxic smoke when burned," Morasha points out helpfully. "So it's probably for the best that we don't try anything. Just in case."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yes, that rope IS sturdy enough to pass hand over hand.."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Not where you've seen so far"

Kroth grunts "I have plan. I will jump across with rope. Then, we can use this.." he points up to the rope cieling, "For the rest of you, smallest first, when we have more on other side, even heaviest will not fall in."

You paged Kroth with 'Can you make that jump in a 6' tunnel?'

Kroth pages: Not sure....Diving leap?

Kroth pages: Tuck and roll?

Long distance to Kroth: Bahken thinks you bang your head...

Kroth pages: Diving leap!

Kroth pages: But if you say it wont work, I defer to your judgement as GM

You paged Kroth with 'You can hold onto the rope and put your feet one what's left of the boards at the side for an easy climb check.'

You paged Kroth with 'And from there, you can aid another to everyone else coming across.'

Daromu shrugs "We can also use planks, so pure strength isn't needed to get across the hole..."

From afar, Kroth nods

You paged Kroth with 'Finding more planks and building something is also an option'

Jahnavi glances at Morasha. It's that look, you know. The: I endanger my life regularly, and am going to file that away, along with: Why. Why do I now know these things? She lets go a steady hiss of breath, and looks across. What Kroth says slowly sinks in. "Careful how you land."

Long distance to Kroth: Bahken note, "The tunnel is short, not to prevent jumping.. it's short because how else would dwarves reach the rope they used to get past the bad spot :P

"We could also ponder checking the other route?" Offers Yngvild quietly. Well quietly for her which is probably normal conversation level for most people.

You paged Kroth with 'That is another possibility'

"...That is actually probably the wiser choice," Silmeria muses. "Only, how tall was that tunnel, does anyone recall?"

Jahnavi looks over head, "There's a secured rope overhead, and it is ten feet. Either route should work. Either way, I will do my best." The wings flick one, then pin. Serious egalrin is serious. When she can get the horrible stories Morasha is sharing out of her mind...

"I don't recall, at the moment," Morasha admits. "But it seems to me that even if it turns out to be inadequate to our purposes, we can always return here and be none the worse except for a few minutes of wasted time." Easy for her to say, she's got centuries.

Kroth looks up at the cieling, looks across the way. He seems to think for a moment, then shrugs, "Perhaps it would be difficult. We can build something to help cross with the rope. But how would the dwarves have crossed?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Knowledge/engineering?"

<OOC> Jahnavi does not have it.

<OOC> Bahken does his best to keep you all moving, but you are at a decision point.. So, it's based on what you decide.

"After the floor you want to trust the ropes?" Yngvild points out with a shake of her head "I say we go back, unless there is a pressing hurry worth the risk?" she asks as her eyes glance about.

<OOC> Daromu says, "Would it be simple and straight forward to go back, find their bracings and wood to tie together to make a bridge over the empty spot so nobody needs to make dex or strength checks to get across?"

<OOC> Daromu says, "I'm a sailor, so making a plank ain't that hard. :)"

<OOC> Bahken says, "There'd still be checks just cause if there was enough wood to fix the planking the dwarves would have done it"

The egalrin lifts her wings, and lets them drop. "They've worked so far. ...I think the khazad may have secured it later. It hasn't creaked as much." Humor. "You're bigger than I am, though. ...perhaps we should regroup, and come back later?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "It would just improve your chance of success.. which right now isn't that bad, based on the rope and the strong monk crossing first."

<OOC> Bahken says, "The other way is an option, but you have to climb up to it.. more checks but the failure isn't nearly as bad"

From afar, Morasha has a sudden inspiration: can she use Animate Rope to make the rope go across and secure itself?

You paged Kroth with 'Another rope? so you'll have a rope above and below?'

You paged Kroth with 'mav'

You paged Morasha with 'Another rope? so you'll have a rope above and below?'

Daromu says "We could just make a quick bridge to cover the hole and we'd be safe to cross."

<OOC> Jahnavi has skill climbing.

<OOC> Kroth has climbing +8

<OOC> Bahken says, "So climbing IS an option"

Morasha pages: And we might have confidence in it if it was one of /our/ ropes. :>

You paged Morasha with 'Yeah.. the rope above you is thicker and stronger than your ropes'

You paged Morasha with 'Also more heavily secured.. I'm trying to figure out the roll for the two ropes though cause that is easier than just hand over hand or tight rope walking by a good deal'

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "If we're not sure on a plan to cross, we should try the other entrance, I think, just to keep things moving. We can always come back, you know? ^^;"

<OOC> Bahken nods, "All for the other entrance, say aye!

"I am no expert" Yngvild rumbles as she tenses a bit, having to crouch not doing wonders for her temper "But if a party of dwarves came down this way recently I will eat my helm. Look at what one did" she adds with a glance down to the broken wood and acid pit thing "Lets check out the other way before we actually lose someone to a horrible death"

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Aye"

<OOC> Morasha says, "Sounds good to me. :)"

Kroth nods, "Yes, we can try another path first, this can be only when we find nothing else."

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Aye, then. :3"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Who's climbing first?"

<OOC> Jahnavi has a +6. If I fall, I glide, though.

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "So long as we're not in a 5' passage like we were before. <.<"

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Highest climb folk who can secure a rope :P"

<OOC> Bahken says, "... well it IS a 5' path"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Jahnavi give me a climb roll"

<OOC> Bahken says, "It is.. but you would not succeed with one. You WOULD succeed with that though"

And so the party made there way back to the pit and looked up at the railway tunnel.

<OOC> Bahken says, "pose climbing it :)"

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Up to the railway tunnel itself? Sorry, I'm not meaning to be obtuse. It's just there's a lot gone on. ^^;"

You paged Morasha with 'Inside the tunnel, the lighted rock attached to your rope shows the tunnel going further into the mountain.'

You paged Morasha with 'mav'

Morasha pages: np :>

You paged Jahnavi with 'Yep, Inside the tunnel, the lighted rock attached to your rope shows the tunnel going further into the mountain.'

<OOC> Bahken says, "One good climb check would do it"

Jahnavi pages: Kk.

<OOC> Bahken says, "And you did that :)"

<OOC> Yngvild is going to wait until last "Just in case"

She pauses for breath for a moment, and then takes the Angoron-blessed rock and tosses it into the entryway. "...tunnel goes deeper into the mountain. ...just a moment, and I'll throw down a rope." Which she does, and secures it several times around a secure piece of track (if she can find one), and grips the end of it around her arm.

<OOC> Kroth says, "Heh" <OOC> Bahken says, "Everyone feel free to pose making the climb, Daromu roll again, or tie the rope around you and have Kroth pull you up :P"

Kroth makes his way up the rope, he is rather slow this time, maybe being careful more than anything.

GAME: Daromu rolls Climb: (7)+-2: 5

<OOC> Bahken says, "You're up!"

Yngvild waits until the area beneath her is clear before making her attempt. She may be strong, but she is bearing a lot of weight and armor and inexperience and she does struggle a bit, even with the rope and wall. Still she makes it up and rolls over, puffing "Need. To. Practice. More" she says, resting for a bit.

Daromu is having issues and after falling, yet again, climbs up silently. Apparently the morale of the priestess has dropped badly.

By contrast, the sharp-eyed Vardaman shimmies up, sheer agility apparently doing some to compensate for lack of physical power. "I think I sympathize," she says to Yngvild, pressing against the tunnel wall and peering down to monitor the rest make their way up.

Whatever they teach at elf academy must include optional physical education classes: Morasha goes up the rope like some sort of pointy-eared squirrel. Any more nimble and you could call her a ferret.

The rail tunnel is MUCH better taken care of.. Still uncomfortably SHORT (damn dwarves) but other than that the walls and flooring all seem quite solid. Following the rail eventually leads to a fork in the tunnels. one leads down. The rope attached to the tunnel ceiling and the plank floor suggests that the first tunnel on the right leads to your original path out of the pit. The rails lead down a path straight ahead. and there's another path on the left where it looks like railing was starting to be set.

You paged Silmeria with 'You notice the sound of wind... Really notice it because there hasn't been ANY wind or sound there of since you entered this god forsaken mine. And on that wind from straight ahead you barely hear a hissing, 'hiiiiigh hooooo' along with a truly acrid smell, just the faintest whiff of which you can detect.'

Well, the tracks are secure. At least the ones so far. Jahnavi makes her way down them, and takes up the rear guard again.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yeah free pose :) info has been passed"

Kroth moves towards the front, seeing as he is a tad healthier than the one that fell in the slime. He moves at point, using his darkvision to see ahead of them.

"Hsst!" Silmeria says, holding up a hand. "Does anyone else hear that? Wind... And is tha--Kroth! Stay close."

Yngvild grumbling about short arsed dwarves continues along a few spots down from the front "Next time I go into a mine it will be giantborn" the tall aesir promises herself. As the sharper sensed Sil speaks up she pauses and juggles her hammer as best she can, other hand reaching for her holy symbol.

Morasha /doesn't/ hear it, whatever it is -- but she's smart enough to pay attention when someone else does, and she quietly takes the sword from its scabbard, trying to minimize the scrape of metal on metal. She slows slightly, eyes peering ahead.

The egalrin tilts her head to the side as she listens. A flick of tailfeathers. A negative. ...a drawing out the polearm, anyway. She'll have to jab with it.

As you all stop and listen you can just barely hear the hiss of the 'wind'? and on it.. "Hiiiii hoooo hiiiii hooo hi" which sounds like a whet stone dragged over steel.

Kroth pauses to listen, then frowns when he hears the sound. He looks to the others, seeing if they have any ideas what might be making that sound.

Daromu doesn't notice a thing, apparently distracted by the various aches and pains. She pauses to take a long pull on a flask.

Jahnavi pages: Would k/dungeoneering come into play?

You paged Jahnavi with 'Not here... except perhaps to give you an idea of how far off the sound is coming from'

From afar, Jahnavi doesn't want to set off dice paranoia. I'll forego. <.<

Yngvild winces slightly as she picks up some of the sound "And I thought my singing voice was bad" she mutters, trying to shift around to give herself some more room.

The egalrin gives her head a shake--not that anyone can see it. She focuses on the move forward, though, determined at least, to find out what it may be.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Moving forward?"

<OOC> Silmeria nod.

<OOC> Yngvild nod nods

<OOC> Bahken says, "Anyone going to try and scout ahead?"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Hee."

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Well, you'll get the chance at invisibility one day, too. :3"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Feel free to pose sneaking forward Kroth.."

The oruch raises a hand, signaling for the group to wait, then he slowly starts to creep forward into the darkness, trying not to make any sounds while he peers ahead with his darkvision.

Leaving the party to stay back aways, Kroth moves forward alone. The tunnel widens out to 10' wide. And ahead the Oruch can see it opens out a wide and blessedly tall cavern. The hissing singing stops suddenly and Kroth can clearly hear a voice speaking in Khazad, but it sounds unnatural and unpleasant.

You paged Kroth with 'Speak khazad?'

Kroth pages: Nope

You paged Kroth with 'Kay, you have choices. journy forward to look, journey back to report, or stay there'

Kroth pages: Move back to report

<OOC> Bahken nods to Kroth, "Kay do that, free pose for a little bit longer.

Kroth pauses up ahead, listening, and then slowly creeps back towards the group to report.

Yngvild waits in silence as the orc directs, trying to shift and stretch cramping muscles without making too much noise, and cutting out the swearing about dwarves.

Silmeria rests a hand on Daromu's shoulder, furrowing her brow in a silent display of concern. Glancing up after Kroth, she bites her bottom lip, waiting with only so much patience, for the monk to return.

Jahnavi finds a place to wait. The sounds are unnerving enough as it is, and she listens intently. Wonders what they are.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ok so for a 10' wide tunnel marching order is... Yng Kroth, then Marosha Daruma, then Jahnavi and Sil?"

Morasha waits quietly; luckily the tunnel's height is a little less of an inconvenience for her than for the taller folk, though she'd still make a tall dwarf. She tilts her head to listen, but, hearing nothing, soon resorts to reciting something under her breath. Poetry, perhaps.

<OOC> Jahnavi is at the rear, yeah. Kroth had wanted to be near the front.

<OOC> Morasha may not be the /ideal/ person to have in the #3 spot, but it's okay with me. Someone has to! :)

<OOC> Silmeria says, "The #3 spot is where the squishies are best protected. But, yus. :3"

Kroth returns to the group, moving up to them quickly and whispering, "It opens up into a larger room, but I think they may have heard me. They sound....not right."

Daromu just stands there quietly and patiently, following the rest without a word.

Yngvild cheers at mention of a larger room, but she focuses her attention on the group "Alright, only one way to be sure" she says as she starts to intone a prayer. She doesn't bellow it to the heavens but as it looks like they have been spotted anyway she doesn't bother to make it silent as the blue glow spreads from her over the group.

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Nice!"

<OOC> Daromu says, "So I'm probably the fastest person in the party currently..."

<OOC> Kroth moves at 40

As the party approaches, Kroth and then Daromu notice that the entrance is now guarded.. They look -like- dwarf, but something is very wrong with them.. Their clothing and especially their beards are unkempt and ratty. They wear no gloves and their nails look long and jagged. They seem to notice the party at the same time and hiss, but a voice from behind says, "Noooooo.. let them through.. We've waited so long to have guests for dinner..." and (unseen by the rest of the party) the two step to the side.

Yngvild's ice blue eyes scan the 'battlefield', such as it is. Her lips purse as she looks to the heavens and simply commands "LIGHT!" and as she does the bright blue light of her patron glows from her holy symbol and she moves forward to try to put herself as close to as many of the dwarves as possible.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Kroth, please roll 3 fort saves"

Silmeria does not charge forward, even though the creatures that once were dwarves are very, very obviously the risen, hungry dead. Instead, she tilts her head to one side for a moment, eyes flicking among all the dwarves that she can see, and nods to herself. "Perhaps once there was a time for diplomacy, she says, striding forward. "But that time passed when you did. My Lady dislikes the unquiet dead, ye sorry, blood-spattered filth." Her pistol rises, gleaming silver-white in the light of the floating ember, and with a small, tight smile on her face, she fires, blasting the ghast next to the door completely off his feet, to crumple to the ground. "One," is all she says in the stillness that follows.

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Actually hang on, how many can I get from by his side? With a channel"

<OOC> Bahken says, "You couldn't if you wanted to.. Kroth moves faster and charged to get to his spot. With casting light, you can move 20' your about 30' from the doorway and the action."

You paged Silmeria with 'While we wait for Jahnavi's response.. what's your plan?'

The enlarged Oruch seems to be doing a lot of hitting, punching with his magical brass knuckles, but due to his size, and likely threat, he is also the target. He gets hit multiple times by the creatures and finally he seems to just stop moving.

Silmeria pages: Well, I'm hoping I can elbow Kroth out of the way so I can take his place, being that I have a domain bonus vs. level drain.

<OOC> Daromu says, "Did the 10 I took also include the -5hp for losing a level?"

Things are not exactly going according to plan. It's unclear what the plan was, but Morasha has deduced that this was not it. Since her initial enlargement target is no longer in motion, she opts for a second, the golden ring on her left index finger glimmering momentarily as Morasha weaves the spell of size-increase once more, this time making Jahnavi the lucky winner.

You paged Silmeria with 'I'll let you pull him, but I think you'll provoke an AoO from the other Wight, Kroth will end up behind you and you'll be next to Jahn.'

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yes"

GAME: Bahken advances the initiative order.

     Round Three - Init 14.
It is now Jahnavi's turn! Daromu is next!

You paged Jahnavi with 'Minus, you have a wight right next to you, plus you have hella reach! 15

You paged Jahnavi with 'The only one you can't reach is the wight by Daromu'

And as if on cue a nice gap opens up for the huge Cleric to step into. Yngvild does so and hoists her hammer high "PATRON OF HEROES. IRON MOUNTAIN. SMITE THESE UNNATURAL CREATURES" she commands with a stomp of her booted foot that sends a burst of bright light out. It scorches the undead severely, one falling to the ground, although the leader seems less damaged than the others.

From afar, Jahnavi needs to 5' back and strike, I think. I should threaten 20', I think. But there are a lot of rules. :3

Jahnavi pages: Looooots of rules. XD

<OOC> Silmeria says, "That's how many down, now?"

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "5' back and strike. I should still threaten all of them (large + reach weapon). ...but. My recall may be off."

You paged Jahnavi with 'Seriously, I think it's 15 but that still puts two in your baliwick and one outside'

<OOC> Bahken says, "All but the furthest one with Daromu"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Roll it!"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Striking the closest one to you or the big bad infront of Yng?"

It is now Morasha's turn! Silmeria is next!

<OOC> Bahken thinks Morasha might be done.. checking though

<OOC> Daromu shrugs and didn't expect to survive this encounter. The only thing saving me is the PRP rule of no death.

<OOC> Daromu says, "Page me when it's over."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Not true actually.. you're only dying.."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Dying isn't dead"

Eyes on the enemy, Jahnavi maneuvers sideways--then brings the weapon to bear against the matted khazad threatening Yngvild. Shove, and twist--the blade slices through the ragged shoulder and down...dropping the creature.

<OOC> Bahken says, "You also killed a ghoul and did good damage to a wight so it's not like you didn't help"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Also Daromu, you're still not the only cleric."

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Or the only one that can stabilise"

<OOC> Bahken noddles..

One of the fetid dwarves swings at Yngvild but she's able to rebuff him. The one alone with Daromu though slams again into her and grows stronger as she grows weaker.

GAME: Bahken advances the initiative order.

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Wight: Corporeal, or incorporeal?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Energy absorbers, but the one with the sword went down"

<OOC> Bahken says, "corporeal, they bridge the gap between ghoul and specter"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Awesome. So."

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Swift action: Beneficial Bandolier, reload. Full attack action, TWF Khopesh + Pistol."

<OOC> Bahken says, "on the one next to you? Roll it!"

You paged Silmeria with 'Beneficial bandolier prevents the AoO for ranged? or just reloads?'

Silmeria pages: Just reloads.

<OOC> Silmeria will eat the AoO for shooting into melee.

GAME: Bahken rolls 4: (4)+4: 8

It is now Yngvild's turn! Jahnavi is next!

<OOC> Silmeria says, "BaneDPS, baby."

You paged Yngvild with 'the wight 10' from you just dropped Daromu'

Yngvild pages: 5 foot step if safe, then smack it

You paged Yngvild with 'very safe, roll it'

GAME: Yngvild rolls 1d20+6+2+1: (18)+6+2+1: 27

Having taken Kroth's place when it was clear the monk was in dire straits, and willing to suffer the pain of their enemy's foul touch, Silmeria turns, dipping one shoulder low to bring her hook-baded sword up in a cruel, stem-to-sternum slash, finishing the rotation with the mussle of her pistol tucked under the ghoul's chin. "Six," she says, and pulls the trigger. The resulting explosion of bone and gore is messy, but very certainly effective.

GAME: Yngvild rolls 2d6+4+1+1: (5)+4+1+1: 11

Long distance to Yngvild: Bahken assumes that's not a threat range, Roll it!

You paged Yngvild with 'Not down (due to drain)'

     Round Four - Init 14.
It is now Jahnavi's turn! Daromu is next!

<OOC> Jahnavi'll go after that one, then. ...and hah. :)

<OOC> Bahken says, "HIT!"

GAME: Jahnavi rolls 1d10+14: (5)+14: 19

As her fellow cleric is dropped Yngvild lets loose a booming warcry "ANGORON!" which echoes through the chamber. She steps foward as she raises her hammer to the sky, as if the massive hunk of oak and steel were weightless. It comes down heavily with a nasty sound but the creature stays up.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Dead!"

<OOC> Jahnavi would like to try squeezing through just inside of the door then, I guess.

<OOC> Bahken already assumed you'd move as much as needed to strike :P

<OOC> Jahnavi oh. I meant into the next room. If not, that is ok. :3

<OOC> Silmeria says, "FE FI FO FUM, I SMELL A WIGHT WHO BETTER COME GET SOME."

<OOC> Jahnavi > 'Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares'

<OOC> Bahken says, "Gah, You're not threatened, you're fine"

<OOC> Bahken says, "And the room itself has a better ceiling"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Plus you have a ridiculous reach so, you can move and strike, I promise. It's dead"

<OOC> Jahnavi nodnods.

GAME: Bahken advances the initiative order.

     Round Four - Init 13.
It is now Daromu's turn! Doc is next!

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "I was thinking there was something in the other room (that'd been doing the talking). That's all. So I was going to hit, then move through the door."

You paged Daromu with 'Give me one stabalize roll please'

<OOC> Bahken says, "There WAS... You uh... killed him last turn"

GAME: Daromu rolls Constitution-5: (18)+2+-5: 15

<OOC> Daromu says, "Stablized."

GAME: Yngvild rolls 3d6: (9): 9

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Have some more :P"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "And on your feet!"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Free pose! I'm keeping the inits to heal"

GAME: You damaged Daromu for -9 points. 4 remaining.

GAME: You damaged Kroth for -9 points. 17 remaining.

GAME: You damaged Silmeria for -9 points. 29 remaining.

<OOC> Daromu says, "I was at -5... so it made the DC higher or my pool lower. Same diff."

<OOC> Bahken says, "Ahh you're right"

As the last one goes down Yngvild offers a tight but fierce grin behind her helm "PRAISE BE" she bellows out then turns her gaze around. She looks to the heavens and "HEAL US" she demands as bright blue light washes over all those around, soothing their wounds.

Another bullet disappears from Silmeria's bandolier, as she holsters her pistol and turns her sword to rest the point against the ground, leaning on it and breathing hard. "That.... I really hope that we've found everything that cleared the mine out..." Pressing her forearm to her head to dab the sweat away, she looks to her fellow adventurers, smiling just a bit as Angoron's blessing shakes the tunnels. "Everyone... call out if you can?"

Daromu slowly rolls over from where she had collapsed "Did I survive? Are they gone?"

"...what the hell happened to them?" Jahnavi pokes at one of the khazad with the bardiche...and then ducks as her head brushes the ceiling. ...and stills as Yng's prayer bursts over them. "Thanks be to Angoron," she replies.

<OOC> Kroth says, "How long does the paralysis last?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Two rounds you should be coming out of it this round, so pose rousing"

<OOC> Bahken says, "1d4+1, rolled two"

Kroth starts making a few noises and then his body starts to move slowly, finally he seems to come out of what held him. He winces a few times, and shivers. "I really dislike the undead."

Yngvild pulling off her helm does her best horrible leer down at Daromu "If this is your afterlife I would make it a point not to die" she says as she offers the dwarf a hand up, her booming laugh filling the chamber.

<OOC> Bahken says, "PERCEPTION CHECKS!"

GAME: Kroth rolls perception: (12)+7: 19

GAME: Silmeria rolls perception: (1)+15: 16 (EPIC FAIL)

GAME: Jahnavi rolls perception: (12)+9: 21

GAME: Yngvild rolls perception: (8)+5: 13

GAME: Daromu rolls Perception-1: (16)+3+-1: 18

<OOC> Bahken says, "Very impressive epic fail btw"

<OOC> Silmeria n_n Perk of Inq.

<OOC> Silmeria says, "(The glasses don't hurt either)"

<OOC> Whirlpool says, "Don't you mean 'Perc'?"

<OOC> Whirlpool says, "HO HO HO."

<OOC> Silmeria says, "I will cut you like I cut that wight."

<OOC> Whirlpool says, "That wouldn't be the wight move."

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Hey, if it's wrong, I don't *wanna* be wight."

You can all hear it, a soft, dry whistling possibly in response to the order for people to call out.. It comes from further in the cavern.

<OOC> Whirlpool says, "Can I get that in wighting?"

<OOC> Daromu kills you all, burns the bodies and makes s'mores.

<OOC> Whirlpool says, "What kind of smores? Wight ones?"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Weft."

<OOC> Daromu says, "Yeah, killing and burning... yeah."

<OOC> Yngvild says, "With your dice Daromu I feel safe"

<OOC> Daromu says, "We're done, right?"

"...And that would be a 'we didn't get them all, not yet,'" Silmeria says, sighing and looking about. "...Do we have enough left in us for one more fight?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Not quite. :points to the whistling"

<OOC> Daromu says, "One more fight? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

<OOC> Bahken pushes you all to keep posing :P

<OOC> Bahken says, "Almost done..."

Jahnavi looks over, and offers a whistle of her own. Then, calls out, "Who's there? Are you alive?" she asks in khazdul. ...and stands frozen, waiting for the answer.

<OOC> Silmeria understood that! *smartie*

Inside the cavern there's several loaded carts and it looks like the creatures were digging with their bare hands for the most part. On the right side of the room in the middle of the wall there's a dead thing.. It's not clear what it was exactly as it's head is gone and its body is mostly eaten but infront of it there's a small hole with a minor cave in. The whistling seems to be coming from there. "Is is anyone out there?" a non-creepy voice replies in Khazdul.

<OOC> Jahnavi :D

Daromu just sits there looking in really bad shape. She pulls out a flask and takes a minute to just drain it in one long pull.

Kroth frowns, looking around and then peering into the hole. "Hello? Yes, someone is out here." Yes, thats wise, stick your face in front of a hole...

Jahnavi shares a look with the others and then calls out again, in the same language. "Your boss hired us to find you when you didn't come back. Is anyone alive down there? How many?"

The only words Yngvild knows in Khazdul are not ones you say in front of your mother. Well her mother perhaps. Either way she has no idea what is being said "That sounds more normal" she says a little hopefully.

"It is," Silmeria says, breathing a deep sigh of relief. "I think we've found the rest of the miners, and it sems they're alive yet. Trapped behind a cave-in, by the look of it."

Kroth looks directly into the barrel of a rather horrifyingly large gun. But hears, "Oh THANK THE GODS!" In short order the collapse is forced open and seven short, stocky... no actually they look rather lean, malnurished.. starving even, dwarves crawl out. They don't even bother to dust themselves off before falling at your feet, "Oh thank the gods. We thought we were going to starve in there.. They like that you know.. when you starve enough to start eating your own.." he shakes his head, "It started with one that we found down here.. that one!" he points at the one with the sword, "he turned two of the others.. and then they blocked the exits.. We managed to get into the store room, but others didn't.. and without food they.. they..." he shakes his head and around the area you can see bones of other dwarves.. Then turning to you, "Thank you again.. we all have ladies we'd like to see again." One nods, "With lips red as the rose," and another, "Hair black as ebony," and a third, "Skin white as snow." All seven look at each other for a long moment then shake their heads, "NAAAAAAHHHH!"

<OOC> Jahnavi sobs. XD

<OOC> Silmeria XD

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "Nice. :3"

<OOC> Silmeria says, "Hey, if you're gonna go for the ripoff, don't settle for just the trim. XD"

Between the 'new' foreman's tale of heroics, and the bosses shocked surprise as the amount of what appears at first glance to be raw Mithril and even adamantium down the other path, it appears that a discount on those materials may be negotiated (I believe you still need to pay RPP though).

<OOC> Jahnavi bwah. :)

Daromu helps escort the dwarves out of the mine and to safety, but her confidence is definitely shaken. She trudges along in defeat, not saying a word or responding to anything said to her. Once the dwarves are back, she slips away.
