PRP: Unbearable

In the misty fading light of sunset, the Adventuring Guild has another Great Opportunity for intrepid adventurers. The meeting room appears to be headed by a gangly little gobber who has introduced himself as Seward Hobbins, representative of the Fleaworth Brewmaster Artistry Extraordinaire (The Best) Company(tm). Seward sniffs, waiting for the group to get settled as he shuffles his papers and scratches behind his rather oversized ears.

Jibbom does not 'get settled'. He makes grand entrances! He bounds into the meeting room with his usual energy, grinning lopsidedly at the gangly gobber before taking his seat. "Hey there! You're the booze fellow, right? Pleased to meetcha."'

Dante moving to hold open the door for others is the armored half-elf, holding his helm in one other hand. For now the warrior has something of a half-smile, looking at those coming through the door.

Leisel wonders into the room. She looks over the folks within, checks her packs pulling forth some odd things, a rock, a leaf, and a peice of poop. "Got everything..." She looks over the armored half-elf and smiles. "This looks like the place.. " blinking a moment as Jibbom talks of booze, "Or... wait." she glances towards the door, looking a bit confused. Then counting on her fingers... "No, day three is rock walking day, day four is bring a vine to work day..." she looks to the gobber. "Oh, well I guess, whatever this is I'm sure it will be fine."

Oh, hey! There's another Gobber here, actually. Nadara is leaning against the wall with a big old grin on her face. "Fleaworth. Got some of their brews back in Trashraan." She misstates 'Tashraan', but its close enough.

Quint nods at Dante as his own hand takes the weight of the door, holding it open with the flat of his palm as he steps through and then letting it fall closed -- apparently, there's no one else behind him. His short hair is pressed against his scalp and damp with sweat -- a bead of which he rubs from his nose with a gloved thumb. He smells of old books, votive candles, incense, and the like. His armor rattles while his skirts and surcoats swush.

Constantin ducks in, a little late, glancing over towards Nadara. He frowns, but says in an affable enough tone, "What? You don't love the beautiful slums of Taashraan?" Then he settles back, looking for a place to sit.

"Yes, yes, the booze fellow," Seward sniffs, looking like he's not quite sure how to take that moniker. Yay? No? Hm. He watches the party filter in and squints at the strange druid with her ... excrement ... Lovely. The presence of the other gobber gets a smile though, and he nods his head, his oversized ears flapping and flopping all over as he does. "Tashraan is a great customer of ours, oh yes."

With another sniff, he looks over the group. "Okay, I see you all have arrived, then. Yes, yes. You'll fit the bill. Now. As I'm sure you're aware, the Fleaworth Brewmaster Artistry Extraordinaire (The Best) Company -- TM -- is a leader in fine and exotic brews. Our newest...endeavor was en route to Alexandria when, according to reports, something terrible happened to our caravan. We need you to go recover any of our property that remains in tact, destroy the rest before less /savory/ types gets a hold of our trade secrets, and take care of whatever villains may have absconded with our brews. Any questions?"

Jibbom always seems to wind up in adventures involving excrement these days. It doesn't phase him in the least. All of his apparent new adventuring companions are given exuberant smiles and waves. "Hey hey." He's quiet long enough to listen. When time comes for questions, his hand shoots up. "What do the reports say this 'something terrible' was? Is it something that could happen to us?"

Constantin's smile broadens. "Save the ales! Drink a lager!" He bites his lip, then keeps smiling. "Yes, do please tell us that." Dante steps in allowing Quint to bring up the rear, which relaxes him somewhat. The young warrior is listening intently to whats being stated, and occasionally glancing around the room. Though the question of what draws his gaze back on the person hiring the group.

"Well, we had a small adventuring party there as guards, but ah... I do believe they looked weaker than you /fine/, upstanding folks. The lone survivor reported about half a word before he died on the spot. Too much blood loss, one would think. But it sounded like the word 'diiiieeee' to me, so it's sadly not much of a clue to go on." Shuffling the papers in his hands, he starts handing out what appears to be contractual waivers. "Now, if you could just sign and return these waivers, they're all standard things. We, Fleaworth Brewmaster Artistry Extraordinaire (The Best) Company TM, will not be funding any resurrections, reincarnations, raise deads, nor ameliorating any damages that may occur in the span of this adventure should you be unsuccessful -- and therefore, dead. Yadda yadda, you get the drift."

"Almost certain death, you guys don't take the blame for any of it. Standard stuff, no problems." Jibbom says with a happy smile and a dismissive wave. Of course, he doesn't hesitate to sign the waiver and return it.

Leisel takes in the information, and just when it looks like she is about to ask a question she opens her side pouch taking out the rock. "No, I'm sure he won't mind meeting you but they are asking questions right now. I'll introduce you later." she pushes the rock back into her pouch. She glances up at the gobber, "Do you know basically where the caravan was attacked? Woods? Moutains.. I've already done mountains this week. I don't really want to do another mountain. Maybe a swamp or something? Swamps would be very interesting." she mutters on to herself, "Lots of plants in a swamp, I could get samples.."

Constantin takes the waiver. "Fantastic." He looks it over, then scrawls on it. He exhales. "Do we at least get some product along with the fee?"

"Ehm, forest. Road going through the forest, yes." Mister Hobbins purses his lips in a small smile. "No mountains." Still, the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. Sheesh. /Druids/. "If you all survive this," he adds to Constantin, "we will award you with a small sample of product, yes."

"Are there any of your employees unaccounted for? Drivers? Porters?" Quint isn't one for flippancy -- especially where mortal danger is concerned. One of his hands rests against the top of his wide belt, ther other grips loosely at his armored neckguard. "Were all of your employees goblinkin? How many mercenaries were hired to guard the caravan?"

Jibbom pouts. "Wait a minute. So if only some of us survive, we /don't/ get any booze? That seems so unfair. After all, if we've lost valuable adventuring companions and friends, we'll be in even /more/ need of booze."

Dante goes to first read the waiver, then sign it.

Leisel finally takes the contract and takes the peice of poop out and uses it to make a fancy mark. She hands the contract back, "I don't need any samples of ... what you make. But I would like an opportunity to visit your vines. They are probably very very tired from growning, but I can help with that." She smiles waiting for the gobber to take the poop signed contract. "They would produce better.. and I come highly recommended. Many farmers in the area allow me to visit."

"Five mercenaries. All but one employee was accounted for, all of them goblinkin, yes." Hobbins pauses and regards Jibbom. "Allow me to amend. Provided you carry out your assignment, you will be awarded with a small sample of the product. Better?" He starts accepting waivers, tucking them away into a pristine accordion folder... though he pauses once more at the druid's. He sighs, accepts it, and puts it in a /separate/ folder. "I will discuss that with Count Fleaworth but I'm not authorized to make that arrangement today. Now, are we ready?"

Jibbom smiles, entirely placated by the goblin's amendment. "Much better. I'd hate to think that if we lost someone, we'd have to cope with the grief sober." Jibbom has his priorities! "Well, I'm good to go! Everybody ready?"

Constantin nods curtly. "I'm ready." He taps his finger on a dagger hilt. "At least as I'll get today."

Leisel nods at the gobber and looks around. "All ready..." She even looks excited. "Forests.. forests are very good.." she mutters.

Dante seems ready to go, offering a silent nod that he is.

Nadara, of course, signs on the dotted line as well. She seems pretty happy to be involved with this.

The trip out to the spot the caravan was attacked is fairly easy, just a couple hours worth of a jaunt out of town. The caravan itself seems to be gone or recovered, but the blood splatters on the leaves and loam are fairly easy indicators. It's at this point that Hobbins stops the cart you've all loaded into and eyes the road uneasily. "I'm going to park a mile back, nearer to the main road. Join me when you're done."

Jibbom gives Hobbins a little salute as he hops down from the cart. "Righto, booze man." The blood spatters have his immediate attention, and he peers curiously at them. "Hmmm. Well, definitely looks to be of the 'nasty things attacking' variety of bad thing."

Constantin hops down in a crouch, pulling out his crossbow. Blood spatters cut away his early flippancy. Now he nocks a bolt and looks outwards. "Hey, druid, can you talk to the plants about what happened here?"

Leisel climbs down from the wagon, and moves towards the plants with blood splattered on them. Her brows furrow as she looks quite sad at the display. She talks quietly, her fingers moving gently over the leaves, "Tell me friends.. what has saddened you? Can you tell me what you rememeber?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Leisel, go ahead and roll me either survival or knowledge nature, wouldja?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Anyone else can roll perception to get a better idea of what's going on here."

Making more room for everyone else, Quint rides from the city alongside the wagon atop Brannigan. The draught horse has an intelligent spark in its dark eyes and the paladin speaks to it in a low, private murmur. Straight-backed and quite confident in the saddle, the Acanian looks out from his helm at the flatlands and rolling hills, the heavily-trod trade routes and thin game trails, as well as the mountains and heavens above. He points once or twice -- perhaps finding trails to take later when they're out for a run.

Staying in the saddle -- at least for now -- the Elunite slows the horse to a pace easily met by those on two legs. He balances a tall polearm like a bannerman in one hand.

So Nadara is looking around. hey, look. Plants. There are PLANTS here. Nadara picks up a flower, twirls it between her fingers, and sniffs it once. "Ugh," she says. "Well. There's blood splatters. THat indicates, you know, some bad stuff. Yeah." She's still sniffing the flower anyways, though.

You paged Leisel with 'The plants are telling you that something makes their home there, and that something was very unhappy to have an intrusion. But it's a natural something. Something that belongs. A friend, even, as far as the plants are concerned.'

From afar, Leisel grins "Awesome!

From afar, Leisel as extra info, has plant domain.. :D

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Everyone 10 and above can smell...booooooze. And lots of it, through the bushes and away from the trail."

Hoping out of the wagon, Dante dons his helm, then looks around a bit more carefully. It seems that it was quite a battle out. Making note of the other Elunite on his mount, reminds him of his own, though he seldoms ever rides it.

You paged Leisel with 'Awesome. :D'

GAME: Jibbom rolls perception: (15)+4: 19

<OOC> Mudslide says, "You also smell the boooooze!"

Jibbom sniffs the air, a little smile appearing on his face. "Ooh. Smells like a tavern I used to visit. Or a brewery. A good sign either way. Let's track it down!"

Leisel's face lightens a bit. She glances upwards to the canopy of trees. "Friend?" she looks about as if trying to sense what is there. "They are sad for the deaths.." she now looks back to her companions. "But.. they don't want to tell me. Its a friend.." she glances about, looking to the ground. She lays her hands upon the ground.. "What is a tree-friend, that does not like visitors?" She holds out her hand to stay the others. "This should be approached carefully. We may be able to.. communicate. Do not anger it.. please."

The surrounding bushes that hedge the trail are all quite overgrown and wild, and blood-spattered. There's smears in the dirt underfoot, of more blood and lots of activity. A skirmish, probably. Through the bushes is a stretch of forest and the tangy, spicy scent of a good (if strange) ale that leads the party ever onward.

"This... friend attacked and slaughtered men traveling along a trade route?" Quint turns to consider Leisel, his constant frown just where you'd expect to find it. His tone is mild -- even. "Are you suggesting that it provoked somehow?" Constantin takes a while to clue in, crossbow shouldered. "No promises -- look at the blood, after all."

Somehow, Nadara has managed to miss the boozey smell. Probably becasue her nose is in a flower. "Mmn?" she says, looking at Jibbom. "I don't smell anything." And then she starts to sneeze. And curse between sneezings in goblin.

Jibbom looks somewhat confused. "A... tree-friend? What kind of tree-friend kills people and gets drunk?" He looks over at Constantin and shrugs his shoulders. "I figure we find whatever it is, and if it looks like it wants to do us harm, we blast it. Sound fair?" The goblin's sneezings just earn an amused smile.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Everyone roll perception!"

GAME: Constantin rolls perception: (6)+5: 11

GAME: Nadara rolls PErception: (14)+5: 19

GAME: Quint rolls Perception: (9)+1: 10

Leisel doesn't take her gaze from the surrounding forest. "I am saying, this is its home. The trees.. they hold no fear of this thing. If someone were to come crashing through your home uninvited, would you not do something?" she turns her gaze towards the men, "I have seen humans do worse for less of a reason." She takes a deep breath. "I'm encouraging a gentle hand in this. We may possibly be able to help it understand, no harm is meant to its home. If that is indeed, if it was not provoked." Her voice moves to a near whisper, "If provoked.. we have a problem."

GAME: Leisel rolls perception: (9)+12: 21

GAME: Dante rolls perception: (16)+5: 21

GAME: Jibbom rolls perception: (6)+4: 10

"What do you propose then, if it feels provoked and you wish a gentle hand still?" Dante asks, looking at what he considers too be the druid speaking, shaking his head a bit.."Hopefully you will be able to deal or negotiate with it, can you tell us what we are facing?"

The trail leads them through the forest -- or at least it leads a few of them, who are able to urge the rest to follow. It's not long before everyone smells it, and it's quite overwhelmingly pungent. Mouth-watering, even, if you're a fan of ale! A break in the trees, however, brings them to a clearing.

In the back of the clearing is an enormous cave that stretches into not a mountain but perhaps a rocky hill. The remains of two enormous kegs are split all over the clearing, and there's a small puddle of ale still slowly (very slowly) soaking into the ground.

But that's probably not the main attraction. The main attraction is the /enormous/ bear thumped on his butt, claws and teeth scrabbling at the remaining keg. There's a tiny human-sized aviator's cap set haphazardly on one ear that nonetheless seems to be staying on with some surprising tenacity. The ursine's back is to the party, as it works on its barrel with low grunts and scraping teeth.

Constantin swings his crossbow around, swinging it back across his back. "Awwww, shit." He, instead, grabs his bastard sword, pulling it out. He just feels better about life like that.

Jibbom reacts with barely contained horror, screeching in a tone which is just quiet enough to avoid deliberately antagonizing the bear. "The kegs! Slaughtered and left to waste! The monster who did this has no soul!" The halfling pouts heavily. "Also, it looks like it ate some dudes. So, that isn't good, either."

Leisel stops as they come into view of the bear. She whispers quietly. "I think he has more in common with you all than you think.. " as she watches the bear try and get into the kegs. She takes a deep sigh. "I can try my best.." she glances at Constantin draw a sword. "But if you provoke him... to where he will not respond, you are on your own. I will bring no harm, he is under the Word's protection. He is part of the same fold as us."

Constantin nods, pointing with his chin, "So go talk. If he's done what he seems to have done, I'll be here behind my sword."

"Oh good," says Nadara, drawing her dragonspitter. "A cave. Why si it always a cave?" she asks with an obvious look of frustration on her face. A very obvious look.

The bear grunts, chews at the edge, and tosses it down in frustration. Grunt! Growwrrr! It totters and tries to roll to its feet, only to fall over onto its side and flail a few rather gargantuan paws. Raahhgh!

Constantin exhales, and grins. "Please. I can hold my drink better than that." He points. "Into the cave, then."

Jibbom eyes the stumbling bear for a moment. "... Huh. Well, it looks like not /all/ of the drink went to waste. Perhaps the bear can be forgiven." He decides with a nod, before looking at Leisel. "So... you're one of those crazy nature ladies that dances in mud and kisses trees, right? Can you get some answers out of this fellow?"

<OOC> Leisel says, "Where exactly is the bear in relation to the cave? within... without?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Outside of it, probably about forty feet away from it."

Dante sighs "Another very large creature, and it possibly has killed or eaten someone?" Shaking his head once more, the now helmed warrior doesn't draw his weapon just yet. Awaiting the actions of the druid.

<OOC> Quint says, "So, I'm unclear. Did the caravan cut through the forest off the beaten path and was attacked by the bear, or were they on a road and attacked by the bear?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "On the road, attacked by the bear."

<OOC> Leisel says, "forty feat infront of the cave? And we are how close?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Probably 120 feet out."

"I imagine the creature would not fit in a burrow." Quint observes for Nadara's benefit, idly. There's little chance that it was a joke -- perhaps he thinks goblins have no talent for the obvious and was trying to help. He lifts the three-pointed spear from its rest and lets the tip fall, the shaft swinging up into the crook of his arm at a casual-ready. "This was not a new path being used. Either the beast is new to the area and hostile or something drew it out and provoked it. Can you determine which?" He asks this of Leisel, naturally.

<OOC> Constantin says, "So, lots of room to go around? :)"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Yep~ but you'll have to roll stealth."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Well, that is if you don't want the bear's attention. XD"

"...and why does it always have to be bears?" continues Nadara's grumblings. "Bears that can swallow me whole in a single bite. I don't like bears either." She looks at Quint, then back at the cave and the bear and then She veeeery casually backs up behind Leisel. Leisel pages: Normal bear or dire? And if its dire bear, does taking bear shape still allow me to communicate with him?

You paged Leisel with 'Dire! And...sure you can give it a go. XD'

Leisel sighs and stands contemplating the situation for a moment longer. She gazes out towards the bear, then turns to look at the group. "I am going to try and talk to it... " she pulls out the rock from her pouch and holds it out to Jibbom. "This is Rauel, he wanted to meet you. But incase I don't come back to do the introductions, can you take him back to the sacred grove?" She doesn't wait for a reply and dakes a deep breath. "Word's bond, Green's glory.." she blinks now brown bear eyes at Quint, "Think carefully, before attacking. I will not think less of him, if he does not accept my words. Bears are.. traditionally territorial. But I am female.. and if he is male.. I may have a chance."

<OOC> Leisel will use wildshape to take bear form.. to try and go talk to him.

Constantin grounds on his sword, leaning on the quillons has he watches. "Holy Mother go with you."

Jibbom eyes the rock as he takes it, tossing it from hand to hand. "Hey there, Rauel. The name's Steel. Steel Von Ironblood. I'd shake your hand, but you don't seem to have any." He pauses for a moment, as if expecting a reply. "Not much of a talker, are we, Rauel?"

<OOC> Nadara says, "ahahahaha"

<OOC> Nadara says, "Go Leisel."

"I do not shed the blood of the living lightly. Goddess' blessing." Quint responds with a nod, still sitting atop Brannigan. The horse offers a disgruntled noise from the back of its throat and kicks once at the loose woodland earth beneath it.

The big ol' dang bear with the aviator cap manages to get up to all fours with minimal stumbling and starts pushing at the keg irritably. But after a moment it snurffs and turns around bleary eyed to catch the scent of a lady-bear nearby. "Ra-- RAAARHHGHH," it roars, stumbling to its feet and turning to charge with GREAT FURY -- only to stumble, slide in alcoholic mud, and fall flat on his bear face. THUMP

Jibbom eyes the drunken, stumbling bear with a mix of worry and confusion. Rather than seeking advice from any of his adventuring compatriots, he instead looks at the rock in his hand. "I can't tell if this is going well or not. Is this how bears usually have sexytimes?"

Leisel grows fur and her body shape changes into a rather... blondish looking bear, with all its bear smells, (and is that dragon poop one would smell?) She moves forward and stops the moment the big bear tries to lunge and fails. The bear head bends down as if to giggle at the antics of the big drunk bear, but moves ahead again to just within 30 feet. Lifting her great muzzled bear face up, she sniffs the air as most bears do, then gives a rather mellow but definite femalish roar to the bear in an attempt to communicate.

"I.. don't know. And never thought I'd be in a psoition to find out." And then Liesel is also a bear and Nadara takes extra steps back. Just in case. "Why did it have to be a drunk bear? *Why*?" she demands.

Now it's practically scooting and clawing at the ground to get at Leisel, and it doesn't look very friendly. Or open to ~suggestion~. Its aviator cap wobbles jauntily on its big ol' shaggy head.

There's no sorceress here to challenge the bear into seeing reason with hellfire and cast iron crockery, so the Elunite looses a bundle from a hook on the saddle and sends Brannigan surging through the low foliage. A knotted rope in one hand, the Acanian thrusts a square bundle forward over the bear and snaps back with his other hand to snare the trap closed. <OOC> Quint says, "Oh, OK. I wasn't sure which you wanted. :)"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Yeah, sorry I was just reading up on it. Failed burst check. :3"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Leisel!"

Following suite, Dante decides to run up and hit it with the flat of his blade. As killing doesn't seem too be the only option today. Watching another handle the situation and follow his lead, figures this has too be helpful right so it doesn't accidently kill the druid in the process.

From afar, Constantin goes before Leisel? ;(

<OOC> Mudslide says, "ER"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "CONSTANTIN"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Sorry!"

<OOC> Nadara says, "I'll go after Ms. Leisel, Muddy."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay!"

The bear flails and roars frantically, flailing and writhing on the ground as it tries to claw at the net. It's not managing it too well. So it just snarls and roars and claws and, well, generally fails to do anything of import.

<OOC> Constantin says, "Pile on, help it sleep it off (subdual)"

<OOC> Leisel says, "Am I able to try my wildempathy again?"

<OOC> Leisel says, "May I re-try my wild empathy? But.. with them hitting and doing all sorts of things, he may not be very happy with that."

"Bar! Sleep it off!" Constantin hustles forwards, holding his sword on high, clutched in both hands. He brings the pommel down on the base of its skull with a meaty thwock.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Nope! It's ineffective to use in combat against creatures that intend to harm you/your allies."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Or you /can/ if you /want/, but you'd probably know it wouldn't work. :3"

<OOC> Leisel says, "Ok, then I will release bear form."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay! Want to do a move at all?"

<OOC> Leisel says, "I'll just move into range of the others.. no other moves."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Nadara!"

GAME: Nadara's inititave total changed to '3'.

<OOC> Nadara says, "Okay!"

Nadara pages: How far from me is it now?

As the large and drunken bear gets hit and slapped and trapped and singed, Leisel roars forward but quickly looses her bear form. "Wait... what are you doing?!!" She stops short of the thrashing claws that are trying to tear into the net. "Don't hurt him!! He didn't know he did bad.. don't hurt him!" She seems completely upset by the reactions of the group, even if they were trying to help her from getting mauled.

You paged Nadara with '60 feet.'

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Aha, found it."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay make a ranged touch attack, at a +4."

From afar, Nadara did. -4. xD

Nadara pages: Because of the range increment.

From afar, Nadara got a 14.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "OH. Nevermind. It hits!"

<OOC> Mudslide is scrambling, sorry. XD

So Nadara rushes forward! She rushes forward and *hurls* a bag at it. The bag hits the bear, splattering all over it and glueing to it and matting its fur. "Yeah! Take that," the goblin shrilly yells at the bear.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "It manages to not get glued to the ground, but it's sure covered in gross sticky stuff."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "JIBBOM"

<OOC> Jibbom says, "Hrm. Well, I don't want to kill the bear. It hasn't been very seriously injured yet, has it?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "It's taken 40 subdual, and 10 regular."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "So not very seriously, no."

<OOC> Jibbom will try to soften it up a little more, then. Magic missile.

Jibbom frowns a little, considering his actions. "Well... I don't want to kill the big drunk bear. But... well, they have pretty thick skulls, right? Eh, it'll be fine." He shrugs and fires off a trio of glittery magical bolts into the beast.

<OOC> Quint says, "I'll just maintain my hold on the rope."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Roll to maintain, I think? Or is that just grappling?"

<OOC> Quint says, "It just means it still needs a Strength check to get away from me. The net stays in place until it makes the break check or escape artists."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Fall flat on his face, roll, and hit a rock, stunning it for a round."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "While I am posing...Constantin!"

"Calm down Ms. Druid lady, we aren 't trying to kill the bear but subdue it, or knock it unconcious, well at least most of us anyway" Dante says and peers over at Jibbom, as he once again whacks the bear with the flat of his sword.

<OOC> Constantin says, "Give it another subdual pop."

GAME: Constantin rolls 1d20+9: (18)+9: 27

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay! Leisel!"

The bear in the net howls and sneezes as the tanglefoot bag explodes in its face, and it writhes and flails and claws and tries to burst through the net. Unfortunately, he's not managing it. Nope.

Meanwhile, from out of the cave comes an answering roar, and another bear lopes out of the cave. Apparently he was nosing around a body, because a big red shirt is wedged over his head and eyes, and its trying to shake it free while it runs. This, combined with the staggering, swaying drunkenness makes the bear slip in place rather comically before tripping, rolling, and whomping its big head on a rock with a frantic roar.

<OOC> Leisel doesn't do anything.. particular at the moment.

<OOC> Leisel says, "Besides scream at people for hurting the bear.... :("

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay XD"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Pose it! Nadara!"

Constantin knocks the bear on the head again, grunting. "The genie is out of the bottle now."

<OOC> Nadara misses!

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Yeah that's a miss. XD"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Jibs!"

"...dammit. Why can't I just shoot the bear?" and then the answer to that question given is that the druid is already yelling at them. "Oh, I see. That's why." So she runs up to the drunk bear and tries to bonk it on the side of of its oversized bearface. This fails. Miserably.

<OOC> Jibbom considers his options here.

<OOC> Jibbom says, "It seems like it might be a good idea to get something to distract the bears, so they don't maul us. Summon Monster II to bring a small earth elemental into existance near the unentangled bear."

Leisel wails as more magic bolts and even blunt blades are heaped upon the bear, she holds her hands towards the dire bear's goo covered form. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry.." she doesn't have the slightest idea how to get them to stop. "How can I tell him we won't hurt him if we keep hurting him?!!" She looks completely distraught over the whole affair. When the second bear comes charging out of the cave, she starts to cheer. But as it falls on its head, stunning itself the cheer dies on her lips. "Wait!!" She looks to the cave.. "Two bears... someone check if there are baby bears in there!!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay, go for it!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "You will have an elemental at the beginning of your next turn."

GAME: Jibbom casts Summon Monster II.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Quint!"

Jibbom looks rather saddened by Leisel's reaction. "He /was/ trying to eat you. It's just a little burnt fur, he'll be fine... ah... oh." Then the new bear charges in. "There, you see? He's taken. She probably thinks you're some skank bear who came to steal her man. No wonder they're angry. But okay, no more fire." Magic begins again, something a little more complex this time. <OOC> Nadara dies.

<OOC> Nadara says, "I love you, Jibbom."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "XD"

<OOC> Jibbom beams.

<OOC> Quint says, "I'll drop the rope, attempt a Fast Dismount to make the dismount a (Free) action, Ride DC20. Failure means I spend a move dismounting as normal. I will then move (as much as I'm able) to engage the other bear."

GAME: Mudslide rolls 1d20+11-2-2: (3)+11+-2+-2: 10

"Stay, friend." Quint speaks, patting Brannigan's flank with one hand even as he kicks his leg over the saddle. A spinning mass of leather and heavy surcoats flare like a dancer's skirts twirling as he spins down and lands mid-stride. He leaves the others to manage the first drunken bear as he's putting his shield into place. Long, confident strides put him right into the face of the second dazed animal and he slams the edge of his shield against his breastplate. "Here!" He challenges, turning then to Leisel. "Inspect the cave, miss. I will attend this bear and do my very best not to hurt it, I give you my Oath." The Acanian has not drawn his sword, even.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Miss!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Pooh will be dazed and confused."

[WhirlChan] Quint says, "I've got the second bear in melee with me, Leis. Hopefully that gives you enough room to check and see if there are cubs. I think you're better off trying to make friends than Quint is. :)"

Balloo gives up trying to break this Most Accursed Rope, and instead turns his slurry swaying attention on the Guy with The Sword. Well -- there are two guys with swords, or maybe four. Eight? Hard to tell. But either way, he lunges, flails, swings, falls flat. "Wrrhuuhhh!!" he wails in bruised frustration.

Pooh, meanwhile is flat on the ground, and he starts to, of all things, whimper. "Wrrhuhh," he echoes Balloo. "Wrrhuhhhh!" This is not the bears' day.

<OOC> Mudslide XD XD

<OOC> Nadara says, "Oh hey."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Jibmeister!"

"Rada... please protect these drunk bears by letting us put them down swiftly, okay? Because I really don't want to owe you more gold after tonight." Nadara says this, murmured, having stepped back to invoke Rada's name from her failure with her mace.

In Leisel's dispare, Quint does come in good and doesn't draw a sword, giving her the time to check the cave. "Green's glory, light of guidance!" she raises her staff and casts light on the end. "I will check... the Enclave can relocate them.. if it is indeed a family!" She shouts back at the others, as they all seem intent on not doing any more harm than they have to. She looks tremendously relieved as she heads towards the cave.

<OOC> Jibbom says, "The earth elemental is going to try to do a subdual hit on Pooh. Jibbom will hang back and cast Mage Armor, since he doesn't have many useful nonlethal options himself."

The boulder-creature rolls in the bear's direction, but fails to make contact. Jibbom stays at a distance, muttering some magic words to give himself a little extra protection.

Managing to just hit the bear without trying to kill it, makes the helmed Dante shake his head, remembering when he almost killed someone, trying not too hurt them then too. Still he moves around just enough to once again give a good whack to the first bear, while keeping an eye on the second, things could turn deadly at any second, especially with the bears swing back.

<OOC> Constantin says, "Eesh. PA, Subdual."

Balloo keeps flailing, this time in the Other Sword Guy's direction, clawing frantically and winding up rolling onto his face with a surprised bear-wail.

Pooh is apparently more adept at this, as he carefully rolls himself to all-fours, swaying even then, and flails his be-shirted head and swipe a claw at Quint. It woulda hit, too, if the paladin weren't so light on his feet!

<OOC> Mudslide says, "On Balloo or Pooh?"

Inside the cave, meanwhile!

It's dark, but it's a pretty shallow cave. As near as Leisel can tell, there's no bear cubs. Just a couple of sleeping areas for a couple of big ol' gay bears (or something). But there's another smaller barrel, clawed and scratched but unopened; and a dead gobber, mostly eaten.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "OKAY NADARA."

<OOC> Nadara says, "I'ma hurry up to help Leisel!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "RUN, GOBBER."

<OOC> Nadara says, "I DO."

Leisel rushes into the cave, but slows at the entrance. She holds up her staff to light her way, but as she looks around her face falls. She looks to the remains, and the barrel. She turns back towards the group, settling her expression. "No cubs..." her voice isn't loud. She hears one bear snoring, and the other being subdued. "We can still relocate them. I'm sure of it... away where they will do no harm. The cave looks newly moved into." She looks at Nadara, "They only know their stomachs. I'm sure the ale smelled of food, and so did the gobbers." She poses this last question, "Why do we eat? Because we are hungry..."

<OOC> Quint says, "I'll total defense it up again."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Awesome!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Dante!"

Jibbom looks somewhat at a loss for what to do now. He decides in favor of giving his magic stone friend moral support. "Yeah! Go Rocky! Eye of the tiger, rock!" He pauses, then shakes his head. "I mean, eye of the bear. Why did I say tiger? Hit the bear in the eye is what I mean. Or around the eye. Something." The stone thunks solidly into the bear. "Yeah, like that!"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Well, he does get about 10 feet. So that does provoke... three attacks of opportunity. Unless full defense doesn't allow for AoO."

Quint continues to hold the bear's attention as best he can, armored plates scraping as he steps, ducks, and maneuvers his shield. His opposite hand remains empty. Gloved fingers flex and stay out wide for balance -- elbow bending when he half-turns to provide the flat of his moon-shaped shield to ward off the ursine lunges.

The worst result now seems to be the bear running only to return and maul another caravan. Those are deaths Quint would rather not have on his conscience. One down, one to go Dante thinks, as he was able to whack the bear kinda good. Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, making a Strength or Escape Artist check. The DC for this check is equal to the DC of the spell. The entire area of effect is considered difficult terrain while the effect lasts."

<OOC> Leisel says, "40 ft/lvl and I'm lvl 4."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay so he made his save this time and will have to roll again at the end of Lei's next turn."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Nadaraaaa"

Leisel watches as the bear begins to run off, and Constantin encouraging it to go. "No!! We must subdue.. we must relocate them! Or he will come back, and then another party will come and be forced to kill him..." she holds her hand out, leaf in her fingers. "Green's word, life grow.. " the plants in the area dance and grow rapidly trying to grasp at the bear as it moves.

<OOC> Jibbom says, "How far did the bear get?"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Wait, command? XD"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "10'"

"We'll, uh... yeah. Whatever the crazy poop druid says," says Nadara, gesturing at Liesel. Then he walks over to Constantin and adds, "Pour some ale out into the sea -- trust me. Rada'll say thank you and you'll be in the clear." His wounds are healed!

<OOC> Jibbom says, "The elemental follows and attempts another subdual hit. Jibbom uses Divine Fire to give Constantin a little extra healing boost."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Okay, go for it :3"

<OOC> Jibbom says, "First the elemental."

GAME: Jibbom rolls 1d20+2: (2)+2: 4

Jibbom goes wide-eyed when he sees what happens to his compatriot. "Fear not! The holy power of laughter shall soothe your wounds!" This is more effective than one might expect. Jibbom points, and a white glowing holy energy flies out to take away the worst of Constantin's injuries. The stone, meanwhile, continues rolling after the bear.

<OOC> Quint says, "I will... *sigh*. I'll attempt to grapple the bear."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Instead he falls flat on his face."

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Dante!"

<OOC> Dante says, "Same thing for me"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Trying to grapple the bear? XD"

Quint lifts his gaze to consider Leisel, looking up and over the stumbling bear. He drops his shield and makes to go after the bear -- only to become tangled up in the writhing undergrowth brought to life by the druidess' spell. His reaching hands fall short and his lips press into a thin line.

<OOC> Dante says, "No beaT it with the flat of my blade, using pa"

<OOC> Mudslide says, "Gotcha."

GAME: Dante rolls 1d20+12: (16)+12: 28

GAME: Dante rolls 2d6+9: (11)+9: 20

<OOC> Mudslide says, "You knock it out!"

Sure its fine trying to grab stupid large drunk bears, however Dante sticks to the status quo of using the flat of his blade, until finally it collaspses from the combined efforts of everyone, and well he quickly and smoothly sheaths his weapon. extending a gauntleted hand towards Quint to help him up.

Pooh scrambles along the ground, scooting amongst the vines and undergrowth with surprising speed, as he avoids Quint and gets a right smackdown from Dante. With a CLONK, the bear WHURFFLERRGHHGs and passes right the heck out.

<OOC> Mudslide says, "We can, for sake of the hour, say you guys rigged up something or sent out for help, or something, and hauled the bears out, if you'd like. XD"

And then, within a couple of hours, they managed to flag down the wagon again, and haul the bears into it -- much to Hobbins' dismay, because what the hell are dire bears doing in his wagon? But the remaining booze was saved, and so was the day, the end. I am very tired.

<OOC> Mudslide's got a lot of integrity.
