The message went out. The wife of Miner Norty Finer was in a panic. Her husband was supposed to check in over a week ago and there has been no word. He was last known to be heading towards his ice mine and was planning on being their a few days. Now Norty's mine is supposed to be one of the best ice mines around. There are natural springs within that generate some pure clean ice without any of those extra minerals that some get. Well Norty normally would have checked in by now and didn't. His wife sent someone to check on the mine and said person came back scared reportedly hearing menacing sounds from within the entrance to the mine. His wife is worried that something has happened to Norty, either he is trapped or worse.

She was happy when you all showed up to her call and gave you a map to the mine and promised prompt payment for the return of her husband or at least knowledge of what happened to him. The mine is about half a day's journey from her home. Half on well-traveled road, the rest by mountain trail. It is an uneventful trip along the road, but the path gets harder as the trail is reached.

GAME: Tim casts Endure Elements. Caster Level: 4 DC: 17

The awesome master of magic, and winner of seven eating competitions, TIM, has come along for the job. Learning new spells costs money, and he sort of eats half his profits in many things. He rode here on a mount, and sighs as they spot the harder path, likely having to dismount and walk. Which is a walk filled with grunting and sweating from the portly elf.

Kira is happy to help, especially a wife looking for her husband. She hopes for nothing worse than him being stuck or delayed. Kira has no problems with a walk. She travels light and enjoys it.

Ice mines... Of course, it would have to be holes under a mountain where people dig up frozen water to sell. Wetlanders... By the time the party has reached the mountain trail, the masked Veyshanti is once more swaddled in a shaggy bearskin cloak, obscuring all but her mask in her bid to keep warm. And being rather less than acclimated to cold temperatures, Alba has been grumbling under her breath the entire way... when she hasn't been arguing with a small green scorpion that seems to like her well enough to travel with her, at least.

Rakim is in his adventuring clothes again, very slightly less fancy than his normal. Also wih an added breastplate. This seems a little new however, ratgher fancier and even more well made than his last one "Perhaps we can find a lovely Otugyr for Kira to hug" the foppish Tsuran drawls in his curious accent.

Vodrick Follows along at a leisurely pace along side the others. He didn't know anyone in their group, but then there were few He had actually met since leaving his home. He would occationally jog to match pace with the others as well as to keep his blood pumping in the cooler climate. He had a thicker cloak then he was used to and a scarf beneath that besides. His feet were even wrapped in cloth though little else protected his soles. Occationally he seems to glance around his surroundings, just taking in the scenery. Though it wasn't his favored climate so far, he had to admit the new experiance was rather enjoyable. All the same, dispite his warmer clothing, he still shivers from time to time between jogs

"Everyone can use a hug sometimes," Kira offers with a smile, "or at least a smile and a kind word." Today, it seems it might be a rescue that someone needs, but she hopes not.

The trail itself is less travelled than the road but there are signs of passage, just not a lot. There is a fresh dusting of snow over the trail, but the map shows that the mine is one of the few things on the trail, so shouldn't be that hard to find, hopefully.

"Rakim by the way kind sir. A humble servant of Eluna" he say by way of introduction to Vodrick, offering the smaller humanoid a bright smile, one that turns decidedly sardonic as he glances across to Kira "Just be careful about stepping in the way of my crossbow no?" he drawls then turns his faintly cold dark eyes to the path beyond, scanning carefully.

Tim has used a spell to protect himself from the harsher climes, it doesn't mean he didn't come dressed for the weather, its that he is more than comfortable with that. The whole sorta walking uphill thing, he still hasn't found the magical solution to avoiding that. Maybe he needs some boots of levitate and a harness and a dog to pull him....ohh, that might work. These are thoughts the elf has as he moves up, looking around for signs of anything.

"I'll try not to, but it'd be even easier if you didn't point it at anyone," Kira does have a point, or so she thinks. "I'm Kira, " she looks to Vodrick and introduces herself, too. Could be for Rakim, also, since she can't remember if they ever did the last time they met. "Has anyone been to an ice mine before?"

Vodrick stumbles a bit mid jog as the person he was traveling beside suddenly speaks up. He looks up at the man a moment and offers a smile in return. "Vodrick, Or Vodds perhaps if a simpler term is required. You shouldn't worry too much with me getting in the way, I take up very little space to begin with, and if I am out in the open I am simply not trying hard enough." he glances at his crossbow and smiles. "I have a similar passion, though I can't say I rely as much on levers and pullies to find my mark. Too slow and bulky for my tastes."

"It is unlikely we should be so fortunate," the voice behind the mask says in reply to Kira's hope. "Still I do not understand why more water must be dug from the earth to satisfy wetlander needs." While introductions are traded around, she doesn't seem inclined to add her name to the pile.

Tim snorts "Its not about the water, its about the cold. Magic can do it, but this is still more convienent for many. Food stays good longer when its frozen, and everyone enjoys a nice chilled ale or wine sometimes. Thats why you mine ice."

<OOC> Tiasa says, "perception checks, survival for those that have it"

"Then I would scarcly be doing my sworn duty. Eluna is more forgiving than many, but I am not -usualy- a fan of breaking sacred oaths. Gives one a bad reputation" Rakim drawls before glancing down to Vodrick "A pleasure I am sure. I find crossbows rather more elegant no..." he shrugs faintly then glances to Tim "Indeed, a waste of magic to use it to chill drinks.."

There almost seems to be a bit more traffic as you get closer to where the mine is supposed to be, the ground more disturbed, though hard to make out too many tracks, mostly just signs of passing.

You paged Rakim with 'you see large tracks heading in the way of the mine. knowledge/nature' GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature: (16)+8: 24

Tim glances at Vod and nods, "I'm Tim." He then looks around, grunting. "Somethings been by here, more than one old miner." He reaches into a pouch and pulls out a bit of beef jerky, taking a few bites and chewing.

You paged Rakim with 'ogre tracks, there might have been something else too but the ogre tracks are covering the others up.'

Vodrick glances about and shrugs at the comment. "I can't say I have a whole lot of experiance mining. But, wouldn't it be easier to have more people doing it rather then a single person? If needs be, I could perhaps take a quick peek ahead of things if you are worried about someone else being here. For all we know it could also be others out to try and help. Family or friends maybe? I know when my brother's 6th son went missing for most of the day, he had no less then half the family out searching for his whereabouts all night long! Turns out he was just hiding out in one of the grain storage sheds and had just fallen asleep. He got scolded pretty good for that one!" He adds with a chuckle,

Being somewhat near the head of the group Rakim holds up a gloved hand in a stopping motion, then squats down by the tracks. All trace of his foppish langour has gone, eyes are hard and intent "Ogres" he says as he shifts along beside them "Perhaps something else, but Ogres make a mess of wherever they are. Horrible things" he adds with a sniff whilst arising. As he does he pulls out a rather intrictaely decorated length of machinery. Silver and blue it is in the shape of a stock of some kind. Pressing a recessed button two arms and a lever spring out, pulling on the lever the arms racthet back and a heavy bolt drops down "Shall we?"

"Again?" Alba says in answer to Rakim's estimation, a deep sigh pushed around the edges of the mask. "Faugh... Why have none devised a way to keep such great vermin away from people?" Her mask turns toward Tim, as though using the fat elf as a proxy to accuse all wizards of impractical research.

"They aren't all horrible," Kira offers up, "any more than all khazad are angry or all Lucht are happy. They could work in the mine, or live around here. It looks like a busy path..."

Tim raises his hands, "What? It ain't me. My goals are to be fed and pampered for life. Unfortunately, it takes a bit of money to get to that point first....so, here I am. Also, I prefer golems, except flesh. I prefer something clean."

As you get closer to where the mine is supposed to be there are bones, not all are fully cleaned of meat, and they are all over the place. They lead up to the mine, like they have just been thrown out of mine entrance, which looks like a cave mouth, which is just visible. There are deep rumbles inside, maybe voices.

Vodrick blinks and careully avoids the limbs "Ok, Ruling out family. Whelp! I guess we can return and let the poor woman know her husband was eaten then right? Case closed!" He offers with a nervous chuckle

Rakim pages: Humanoid bones? You paged Rakim with 'roll knowledge nature' GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature: (11)+8: 19 You paged Rakim with 'they aren't really all together but you think they look more like bear, or mountain goat, rather than humanoid.'

"And how many pleasant, civilised and sociable ogres have you met?" Rakim counters quietly "As opposed to the usual filthy, canabalistic, incestuous and otherwise appalling..." he trails off as the stench reaches him. His face screws up in disgust, then fading to a hard blankness as he spies the bones. One hand stays on his crossbow as the other absently strokes his sharp goatee "No obvious humanoid bones. We could sneak in but I would prefer a fight with room to manuever"

Tim reaches into a pouch, pulling out two vials. "What say anyone who thinks they are sneaky enough, go in, throw this alchemists fire around and then we all wait out here to ambush whatever runs out? If the guy who sneaks in doesn't see like, eight or more that is. Might be a tad many."

Kira frowns some at all the bones. "Well, if it is an ogre, they were hungry?" She's relieved when Rakim assures none are humanoid. "Well, the only ogre I met was already dead. It was only its body that hurt people, and wasn't his fault... We can't just set fire to the mine! The miner could be in there. I can go try and look, if you want."

Alba's mask turns to regard the Lucht in stony silence for a moment, then to Tim. The wizard, after all, was present the last time the question as asked in her presence. "We do not return," she says, turning her head back to Vodrick, "until we have a truth to tell. Not before. ....Yes I remember, and those who sleep shall not be murdered this time." This last, said to apparently-empty air, her attention more on the bones and the cave mouth than on the conversation.

Vodrick glances around at the others and then at the mouth of the cave. "It looks pretty dark inside, would anyone even be able to see without the air of a torch? I could probably get in there, but I can't guarentee I would see too very much. if the plan is to lure them out anyway though, maybe we could leave a nice surprise for them to stumble into in the meen time? I could use those vials to whip up something perhaps." he offers to tim

There are the grumbles from within the entrance. It looks narrow, but like it opens up into a cavern inside. The voices might be echoing. There is a rumbling, ground shaking a little, then bones come flying out the entrance. And some kind if white rock or something, hard to tell from a distance. They bounce and hit the ground, coming your way, but nothing from within seems to see you yet.

Tim chuckles "I think they heard us discussing how best to deal with them. Shall we just invite them outside?"

From afar, Rakim is going to check what they just threw out Alba pages: What would I need to roll to recognize the rock? You paged Alba with 'knowledge nature' You paged Rakim with 'knowledge nature' GAME: Alba rolls knowledge/nature: (17)+10: 27 GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature: (11)+8: 19 You paged (Alba, Rakim) with 'it isn't a rock. its eggshell, hard, large. the egg probably was at least as big as one of you.'

Vodrick glances around the area to try and find a decent place to find cover and stay hidden if need be.

Rakim's sharp eyes fall upon the latest batch of whatever to come out of the cavern. He considers what was thrown out then moves to a position of ambush "Lure them out into a trap, they might be stupid enough to fall for it" he suggests before seeking cover.

Tim scratches his head, "I could summon something and send it inside to aggrivate them? Might get them outside, have it run away?"

Kira has no idea what they just threw out, but doesn't want to get rolled over by it. She moves to the side.... then starts moving for the move of the cave. "We need to get the miner out," she whispers before she gets too far away. She tries to move quick, but quiet, and she can definitely move quick.

"It would seem they are feasting," Alba says, nodding Rakim's way. "Thus, likely they are not well aware of our approach--" The Witch trails off, as Kira begins to move. "...Though I think not that it shall remain so." Blowing out a breath, she sweeps behind the paladin, picking her way up the trail as silently as she can manage.

"Or we could just head on in" Rakim murmers quietly. Not one much for stealth he watches the other two move in and waits patiently. For the moment anyway.

Vodrick waves at the others and moves up to them "If the idea is to draw them out, let me set up something they wont like first. Allow me?" he asks the 2 ahead of him before motioning for the mouth of the cave

You paged Rakim with 'you hear deep voice near the entrance, "Fine fine, I go hunt, next time you do it." in giant, "Wait. Hear someting I do."'

Tim waves a hand at the others, "Fine fine, you all plan some trap and I'll just get ready. I think most of you know what I can do, I summon stuff too, so there is that." He casts a quick spell.

GAME: Tim casts Mage Armor. Caster Level: 4 DC: 18

There is a deep voice sounding closer to the entrance with a bit of rumbling and then it suddenly stops, eerily silent.

GAME: Vodrick rolls stealth: (12)+13: 25

"They have heard us, pull back..." Rakim says in a hissed whisper, hoping it reaches the two heading in and not the ogres. Either way he aims at the cave mouth and waits for something ogreish to emerge.

Tim backs up of course, he is artillery.

Vodrick pages: is there a bush or some other shadowy area near the cave entrance I could use to get close?

Them being heard might have had something to do with Kira smiling to Alba... and stepping on a dry, thin bone in the process, that makes a loud, sharp SNAP! She looks very apologetic, then looks to the cave, stopping. Though she doesn't back up yet.

You paged Vodrick with 'not if you want to get back under cover. The entrance is on a clear ledge, and it looks like it was cleared away to make room for a staging area persay.'

Alba's hand falls onto Kira's shoulder, as the Althean's footsteps manage to embody the very opposite of silence. "Heed our allies," the Witch murmurs. "If trouble comes to meet us, then it is trouble that shall not menace the man. Be not foolish, and see with both eyes." Pushing the paladin gently to one side of the path, Alba moves in the opposite direction, lifting what appears to be a dried scarab to the mouth behind the mask. There's a thin, horrible crunching noise, and the air ripples around the witch, plates of force that vaguely resemble chitin surrounding her.

GAME: Alba casts Mage Armor. Caster Level: 5 DC: 14

Vodrick looks at the 2 trying to be sneaky, and then back at Rahkim and his warning. He grumbles something under his breath and reaches for his bow on his back. In a quick motion he flips his hood up and dashes into the underbrush surrounding the clearing. Even though he seemed to be moving fairly quickly, nary a leafe seemed to twitch as he hid from sight.

<OOC> Rakim will cast bless then wait for ogre emergence GAME: Rakim casts Bless. Caster Level: 4 DC: 15

The area around the entrance is cleared, probably to use as a staging area. There is cover, shrugs and bushes, but they are 20' out. The ogres know this, but they know someone is out there. One leaps out of the entrance, with a javelin in one hand and a club in the other. There is rumbles from within and another emerges, and a third in the entrance. They roar and get ready to attack.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "pose it up....Kira" <OOC> Kira says, "Sorry. Had a knock at the door." <OOC> Tiasa says, "its okay." <OOC> Kira is going to... pose. Because she has to try.

From her place on the side of the trail, Alba pushes her mask up, revealing too-small pupils in a sullen, resting-angry dark face. As she tilts her head back, her throat begins to... distend, as though a lump of something had begun to grow in the depths of her throat. Rearing back, the witch looses an explosive noise somewhere between cough and retch, and a slimy ball of tightly-packed, fibrous matter sails from her mouth in a lazy arc. No sooner does it touch the ground at the hindmost ogre's feet, than it explodes into a tangled skein of spiderwebs, each strand as thick as a slender rope and twice as strong. The lead ogre, for the moment, now fights alone.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "aye. any action or just the pose?"

Kira isn't about to sneak attack them. She's not even keen on attacking them. The ogres haven't even done anything yet, except come out cranky. She steps from the side of the cave mouth and into the path of it, holding her hands out towards them. Well, the one, now. "Stop! We didn't come here to fight you, or anyone else. We just came to check on the miner who works here. If he's in there, let him out, and we'll leave you be." Not that she knows if they can understand her, but she tries to be as non-threatening as possible. Which is really not that hard for her.

Vodrick pops out from a spot in the bushes and readies an arrow to fire. Unfortunately, As he stood, he misjudged one of the branches, and it swung back and smacked him in the face. His shot went high and off into the woods harmlessly. Thinking quickly, he trys to duck back into the brush, and beans his head on the side of a tree. Not only did this make an actual "Thunk" from the impact, his loud curring that followed did not seem to help his hiding efforts in the slightest. He spoke in no less then 3 languages at once in a variety of colorful cursing that potentially could make even the ogres blush

<OOC> Alba says, "Evil Eye Hex on the free ogre, targeting his attack roll."

"They don't speak tradespeak, and they were yelling about eating us" Rakim calls out to Kira, his voice faintly irritated. That done he squeezes the trigger of his bow and the string twangs again, manging to score a flesh wound on the other arm this time.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "okay...how does that hex work?" <OOC> Alba says, "Will DC 15. <OOC> Tiasa says, "kira"

Two ogres bound, and the paladin's attempt at diplomacy a resounding failure, Alba's gaze turns toward the lead, sparkling, infuriated ogre. And remains there, a baleful crimson glow flickering behind her pinprick pupils. A slow grin spreads over her face, as she senses her magic take root in the ogre's mind, and slowly pulls the mask back down, blood-colored light still burning through the sly eyeholes of the mask.

<OOC> Tim says, "Hrm..." <OOC> Tiasa says, "prepare action time. I will do a situational pose with mine. after kira poses."

Kira could be called a passivist, naive, or many other things, but she simply reveres life, in all its forms. With two trapped by Alba's web and the one in front both hurt and looking to cause harm, she darts forward. A leap, tuck and roll bring her up to it from lower than it expected before she straighten up quick to grab one arm when it lowers it to try and maybe hit her. She temporarily wedges the club and arm awkwardly between its own legs and holds it there. For now.

The grappled ogre tries to break free and comes close but it just doesn't manage to and it can't get its club around to swing. The other ogre, the blinded, webbed, glittery one, breaks free of the web but doesn't move still blinded and glittery.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "tim" <OOC> Tim says, "Cast enlarge on Kira. Its a full round cast" <OOC> Tiasa says, "alright cast, and pose casting. it goes off on your next turn right?" GAME: Tim casts Enlarge Person. Caster Level: 4 DC: 17 <OOC> Tim says, "yes" GAME: Tiasa advances the initiative order.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "vodrick"

Tim looks around, studying his options, then sighs. "Fine fine, I'll help the girl who doesn't want to hurt anything." He begins to incant a spell, and magic begins to fold around Kira, who likely will feel herself slowly getting stronger and larger. Slowly though.

<OOC> Vodrick says, "gonna try just a strait up attack and then move to get closer to tim" <OOC> Tiasa says, "which one? kira is wrapped around one. there is another blind but an easy target" <OOC> Vodrick says, "I don't suppose I can get a sneak attack on the blind one since he can't see me? There is a large wounded grappled ogre with an Alba wrapped around it. There is also a glittery blind ogre behind it.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "rakim" <OOC> Alba says, "Kira, not Alba. Vodrick me continues grumbling to himself but pulls back another arrow to fire; this time at the blind one. Taking a breath to steady his aim he fires, catching the creature in the side. He smiles at this and then quickly turns to make his way closser to tim in hopes he could get a little distance between himself and the now rather angry large things

It is now Alba's turn! Kira is next!

<OOC> Alba says, "Creep closer, cast Touch of Fatigue and use my Prehensile Hair to deliver it from reach." <OOC> Alba says, "On the ogre Kira has."

Rather at odds with his usual elegant languor Rakim lets out a string of curses in several languages as Kira ignores what he said earlier and grapples with his target "Foolish child" the Tsurani finishes in Tradespeak. He seems to give serious thought to shooting anyway, gloved finger tightening on the trigger before at the last moment he turns it to the one that just broke free. The crossbow sings again and the bolt sinks deep into the glittering monster's chest. Calmly he ratchets down another bolt, a faint hint of cold satisfaction in his gaze.

<OOC> Alba nod.

Creeping out of the scant cover afforded by the bushes, Alba draws nearer to Kira and the ogre she struggles against. A thick, ropy length of hair slithers its way out from under her fur wrap, its tip pulsing with an unhealthy, black-green aura as it brushes against the ogre's nose. The ogre blinks at the unexpected contact, but doesn't seem and more hurt or subdued than Kira had already managed, and the witch mutters dire imprecations under her breath.

     Round Three - Init 18.
It is now Ogre1's turn! Ogre2 is next!

Vodrick pages: I checked with tim, and he said that it was cool for me to swipe something from him, but I wanted to run the idea by you so I knew how to actually do it. I was gonna go past him close enough to swipe an alchemist fire from his belt (watched where he pulled it away and put it back to earlier) and then run off into stealth again. I wasn't sure if I could do that in one turn (basicly a bump into pickpocket thing) or if I should wait on that. You paged Vodrick with 'you can do that. on your turn'

Kira ignores Rakim for no. Foolish is one of the things some probably call her, too. She walks under the ogre to behind him, ducking, but keeping hold of his large arm. She's just helping him into a stretching exercise... that leaves him contorted and completely off-balance. Without the need for concussing, decapitating, eviscerating, or any of those other nasting -ings.

<OOC> Tim says, "I wanted to hit the one not grappled, you got that right?" <OOC> Tim says, "Entangled sure :)" <OOC> Vodrick says, "gonna pull a run by pick pocket on mr. <OOC> Tiasa says, "alba, kira has one pinned. Other still not visible, one dead"

Vodrick Makes his way towards Tim and gets an idea, he uses the shadows of the trees, and the fact he was busy with his spell work to get close to the caster and nimbly swipes a small vial from where he saw him place the alchemist fire from earlier. He then turns and leaps back into the bushes and scurries his way into cover to make use of his newly pilfered item.

<OOC> Alba says, "Cast Vampiric Touch, move on to the blind ogre, and STEAL HIS BLOOD FOR MY OWN. With my hair." <OOC> Alba says, "...Well, move, cast and touch really, but." GAME: Alba casts Vampiric Touch. Caster Level: 5 DC: 16 <OOC> Alba says, "Which is a melee touch attack, so..."

Rakim keeps his gaze focused on the upright and glittering one. His crossbow sings again and this time it sinks deep into the creatures chest. The blind and glittering ogre slumps to the ground, fingers plucking dumbly at the heavy bolt in it's chest before it falls to one side, dead. Rakim simply ratchets down another bolt, gaze shifting around for another target.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "does that work on the dead?" <OOC> Alba says, "...Good point. With her sole attempt at rendering nonviolent aid to Kira's grappling a bust, Alba seems to elect to try... less cuddly methods. The snakelike rope of hair writhing from her hood splits into two, the ends fanning just enough to be noticeable, and stabs outward once again, this time with each individual hair piercing the creature's flesh. Dark red light begins to travel along the tentacle and back up under the hood, a few tiny drops of blood pattering down in the intervening space, before the hair retracts again.

     Round Four - Init 10.
It is now Tim's turn! Vodrick is next!

Vodrick pages: I would say a regular arrow, but I can't think of any way the impact would be enough to break the glass. with the blunt arrow, it would at least smack into something. So, would I be able to secure it and fire? I don't think I would be able to restealth after that, but if it works I should only need one shot >.>

Kira may be too preoccupied to notice hair stabbing. between suddenly growing to ogre size and still having the ogre to deal with. "Thank you..." for whomever helped her. This doesn't stop her from pulling the ogre up by the arm, which flips him forward onto his face, and unravelling parts of her rough robe as rope to bind the creature. There. It can't hurt anyone, and no one has a reason to hurt it. Everyone wins.

<OOC> Tim says, "So all thats left is the tied up one?"

The ogre is tied up, but still struggling, but for the moment, doesn't look like it is going to escape. There are flames at the mouth of the mine. The webs are burning and heading towards Kira and the tied up ogre.

Vodrick hunkers down over an arrow, and the vial. He pulls out a bit of string and begins lashing the vial to the end of one of his arrows and securing it down. finishing with his task he calms himself and peers from his hiding spot and waits for just the right moment.

With the lead ogre good and felled, Alba turns to the smoking mouth of the cave. Spitting a series of harsh, brain-twisting syllables, the witch conjures a shimmering, semi-transparent blade, all curves and sinister points, and begins to walk toward the mouth of the cave... which point she steps on webs, rooting her to the spot and getting further tangled up as she stumbles. Raising her head to see the onrushing flames, the witch says a single word in a guttural language, its meaning easily inferable.

Vodrick stands from his spot in hiding and fires his doctored bow into the cave towards the creature within. he pulls his aim ever so slightly however, and the arrow wizzes by harmlessly. He slumps his shoulders feeling a little let down with himself and his aim and simply waits to see if it will come out further.

GAME: Tiasa removes the timestop. Timestop by Tiasa has left. GAME: You remove the timestop. <OOC> Tiasa says, "I will pose afer Rakim does and we will move to free poses." You paged Kira with 'you do know that you could coup-de-grace and knock the ogre out if you want won't do permanent harm' From afar, Kira nods and may do that if she needs to.

Rakim's eyes focus down on the remaining visible Ogre, well that isn't currently being tied up. The silver light flares in his eyes and his crossbow sings again. There is a meaty and rather horrible crunch as he nails it right between the eyes, the beast falling over dead as the Tsurani calmly begins the somewhat laborious task of reloading.

<OOC> Kira warns that she doesn't have much longer. :( "It's very late here." Two ogres are dead, one is tied up, struggling but secure, though he looks to be getting stronger. No sign yet of Norty. <OOC> Tiasa nods...how is everyone else on time?

As the flames rush past, they reveal a smoking, slightly singed mound of fur bearing a sly-eyed mask... but the witch doesn't seem worse the wear for her mishap, save perhaps her dignity. Peering beyond the cave mouth at the dead ogre, then back over her shoulder, Alba sighs, waving the knife back into nonexistence. "...Hunter," she says, turning to face Rakim. "You spoke as you know the creature's tongue. Tell it that it wishes to tell us of the miner's fate, and that it wishes very much for the miner to yet live."

<OOC> Alba is still good. <OOC> Rakim is good <OOC> Tiasa says, "tim, vodrick?" <OOC> Tim says, "I have about an hour" <OOC> Vodrick says, "I am good all night honestly" <OOC> Vodrick says, "though I have a feeling on my own as things are going I would be likely to get eaten by something nasty XD" <OOC> Tiasa says, "okay. free poses. I think I can modify my second encounter for Alba Rakim and Vodrick, with Tim and Kira taking Ogre off to incarceration or something. since they are going to have to go."

Vodrick makes his way out from the treeline and grumbles to himself for his poor aim. He still had much to learn. He passes by tim and pats him on the should... leg and sighs "Well, I tired. My aim just seemed to be a little off today for some reason. Sorry for wasting your alchemist fire though. I thought for sure I would have hit him." He says as he wanders over to the others.

Tim looks around and sighs, "Ok, yet another captured hostage. I still don't get why be bother, its more work, and we don't even get paid more." he shakes his head.

"Hunter?" Rakim drawls to Alba as he languidly straightens, his crossbow now fully loaded once more "You do me too much credit. I am simply a humble servant of Eluna" he protests with a dry smile but his eyes are a touch wary as they look upon the witch. He heads over to Kira and the Ogre and clears his throat "I am fluent in a half score of languages. I will need a soothing brandy or two for my throat however. Giant is not made for throats such as mine" he says as he levels the crossbow down and switches to the language in question <<Where is the miner? For your sake I hope he is alive, or we may have to get...creative>>

"I cam here to help, not for coin," Kira explains. Is that so surprising? She nods to Alba. "That's a good idea." If any would know about the miner, one of the ogres might. Though the pointing of pointy things dims her smile. That and she has no idea what's being said.

The bound and tied up ogre looks up at Rakim and that crossbow, <<What miner?>> it asks in Giant, <<Just me and brothers, we find cave with lots of eggs, we eat eggs and things we hunt, till food hunt us back>>.

<OOC> Alba says, "OH JOY. XD"

Tim doesn't speak giant, he speaks a few other languages, but not that one. He waits to hear what the plan is.

"He did not eat the miner, however this monster that you so wish to hug and whisper sweet nothings too thinks of us as nothing but food" Rakim says to Kira a cold anger burning in his dark eyes as they flick up to her "Give me one good reason why I should not pull the trigger now?" he adds, moving close to try to put the bolt between the large creatures eyes, an elegantly arched eyebrow arising slightly. The wary look is returned... blandly, given that Alba's face is obscured by a nearly featureless oval of carved, polished bone. Silent and impassive, she waits for the ogre's answer to be translated.

Vodrick wanders over to the other ogres, not able to understand the one that is being spoken to, and busy's himself looking them, and the area within the imidiate opening of the cave over for anything useful or worthwhile.

Tim is still standing around, well, he has now pulled out a bit of bread from a pouch and is starting eating on it.

<OOC> Alba says, "Derp, sorry Rakim, missed your pose."

Kira nods as she listens to the news, then blinks at Rakim. Her smile fades to a frown. "If you don't value others' lives, is your own a good enough reason. I cannot allow you to murder a helpless being. If I can't prevent it, then I will see that you receive the maximum puunishment for your crime, up to life imprisonment. This ogre kills for food, why do you? Which one of you is the more despicable?" The ogre understands the tone of Rakim's words, it babbles something in Giant to him.

You paged Rakim with 'It starts begging for its life, promissing to run. It knows you are stronger, that it should run and never come back.'

Vodrick pages: basicly, loot the bodies, and looking for any sort of clues, items, or anything that would stand out as somthing that could either be useful, or would lead to some answers as to what was going on or what did go on. Not going too far into the mouth of the cave though so as not to be seperated.

Tim blinks, "Um....I dont think there is a law in alexandria about killin ogres, in fact....I think the guild endorses it. Sooooo, you cant really threaten us with a crime, if its not a crime."

You paged Vodrick with 'not much really on them. loot is normally handed out later, but you can pose going over the bodies and such.'

If her rolling eyes could only be seen... Alba makes do with turning her face skyward for a moment, and heaving a gusty sigh. "Wetlanders," she spits, the word a strange sort of curse. Striding forward, she drops a hand onto Rakim's shoulder. "Enough. There is yet a life to be rescued. Let her take this back to..." Pausing a moment, she tilts her head, as though to hear something unheard, speaking. "...the mag-i-strate," she resumes, sounding out the unfamiliar word. "If law she wishes for it, law it shall have. Greater concerns, have we."

Rakim looks at Kira some like disbelief softening his face before he bursts into incredulous laughter "I am more likely to be awarded by both state and temple for killing an ogre. Helpless or not. I kill for my sacred duty, and I do eat intelligent beings...oh do shut up" he says to the Ogre then he does pull the trigger, only the bolt is aimed to just miss it's head. He draws himself up to his full height as the full weight of the office he mostly avoids suffices his face. In giant he says <<The one who bound you is vouching for you life. Cause her any problems and I will hunt you to the ends of the earth>> he growls out in the gravelly language as he bends and smears his gloved fingers with the creatures blood and swipes a crescent moon on it's forehead <<You are marked now. Do not forget it>>

<OOC> Rakim says, "I don't have brand so that was just a bit of theatre :)" <OOC> Alba says, "Yay theater. XD"

The ogre listens to the words and nods, looking to Kira as if expecting her to do something.

Tim nods, and keeps munchign on his food. He really doesn't have much to add here.

Vodrick me after looking over the bodies and retrieveing whatever arrows he could, He returns to the group empty handed not having found anything of use without actually entering the cave. "Couldn't find much out here. Doesn't look like we will be getting any more answers until we press forward. Though, If I may, I would rather opt out of taking the lead on that one.

Kira startles and reacts at the shot, taking a two-meter step to Rakim before realizing it was fired into the dirt. She relaxes some, but isn't smiling yet. "I'll stay with him. The rest of you, please find the Miner."

<OOC> Kira hands out noms and thinks she'll have to leave with that pose. "Thank you for the scene, Tiasa, and for the RP, all." <OOC> Alba says, "You too!" <OOC> Tiasa says, "thank you" <OOC> Tim says, "I'm out too now. Thanks! Sorry I cant stay longer, but I cant be up late tonight...again. :)" <OOC> Alba says, "Sleep well!" <OOC> Tiasa says, "no pronblem you two take care" Kira has disconnected.

"One day your misplaced sense of mercy will get someone killed. There is absolute evil in this world. Regretable but true" Rakim says as with that turns towards teh cavern "Well as the Silver Lady has not granted me darksight..." with that he trails off and looks to the heavens. Her prays quietly and the symbol on his hat starts to glow with a silvery light.

"One day your misplaced sense of mercy will get someone killed. There is absolute evil in this world. GAME: Rakim casts Light. Caster Level: 4 DC: 14

The entrance to the cavern is actually lit a bit, one of the walls is burning thanks to the alchemists fire and there seems to be a fire of some kind burning in further.

Tim grunts "Well, I'll keep an eye on her and the ogre. If you end up needing more help, come back running."

<OOC> Tim says, "Bye all" Tim has left.

"It would have been simpler," Alba points out, "had they not sought bloodshed." Apparently satisfied with this argument in Kira's favor, she falls into place behind the inquisitor.

Vodrick seems indifferent to the decission of the ogre, without knowing what was said, it was hard to really have feelings either way. He instead flips his hood back down and stretches his shoulders before falling into pace behind the others. He kept his bow in his hand just in case though.

With a light glowing from his hat and not really dressed for stealth Rakim doesn't bother to try to be sneaky. He does however move cautiously, crossbow levelled and ready and his gaze searching ahead, occasionaly flicking down to check for tracks as well.

Inside the cavern you find a wide open space, it looks like the Ogres hadn't been here long maybe just a meal or two. There are the remains of six eggs, each as big as Rakim maybe larger, whatever was inside was ogremeal. There is an opening on the far side, too small for the ogres, or probably for whatever left the eggs.

<OOC> Alba says, "Knowledge/Nature to maybe figure out what might have left the eggs?" <OOC> Tiasa says, "roll" GAME: Alba rolls knowledge/nature: (12)+10: 22 GAME: Rakim rolls knowledge/nature: (3)+8: 11 <OOC> Rakim eyes dice You paged Alba with 'you could be wrong but you think they were drake eggs'

"Saah," Alba breathes, resting a hand on the thick eggshell, leaning forward to sniff briefly. "There will be a furious mother ere long, I expect... wyrmkin, perhaps." Straightening, she looks to Lucht and human, nodding once. "We must hurry, to ensure the truth we tell remains a pleasing one."

Rakim's eyes fall upon the more human sized opening. He pauses then with a small shrug lifts his shoulders "If there is anyone in there the proverbial cavalry has arrived. I suggest you hurry out so we can get away before mommy comes home" he drawls with a glance back behind them.

Vodrick looks around the cave, he glances at the small entrance and peers inside curiously "So, where exactly would these miners mine the Ice from in here any way? and also, how would they get it out of here unless they were all hulking brutes and could just carry the blocks out?" He asks. Obviously more curious then frightened. He looks back at Alba and blinks not sure what she was talking about, but he understood the urgency all the same. "so then, what's the plan?"

<OOC> Tiasa says, "perception checks" GAME: Vodrick rolls perception: (15)+9: 24 GAME: Alba rolls perception: (15)+7: 22 GAME: Rakim rolls perception: (17)+13: 30 <OOC> Rakim can see through TIME <OOC> Tiasa says, "you hear a piercing roar/scream from outside" <OOC> Alba XD <OOC> Alba says, "But I don't *have* the prophecy hex, dammit!" <OOC> Rakim says, "Still in freepose Tiasa?"

There is piercing feral scream/roar from outside of the cavern. From the opening comes, "Yeah and if I had come out, that thing outside would have gotten me. First it nests in my mine, then goes hunting and ogres... Why my mine?" it is a voice that echoes and sounds like it is getting farther away. Norty is hiding deeper in the mine.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "yep" GAME: Rakim casts Bless. Caster Level: 4 DC: 15

"And who says fate does not have an amusing sense of timing" Rakim drawls. As Norry pipes up his lips quirk into a faint smile "Any luck it will be busy polishing off the Ogre and the Monk..." he drawls then lifts his hand up and prays in what sounds vaguely like Elvish, then makes his way carefully towards the mouth of the cavern, crossbow held ready.

"...This is a very good question," Alba mutters, drawing in a slow, deep breath. "...One that will likely not be answered. Feh... remain, miner. It is good the woman is now occupied, I mislike what argument she may have made to spare its life." Shifting toward one of the opened and hollowed-out eggshells, Alba draws one of the javelins from a bundle on her back standing inside the egg and waiting. Because standing in the remains of a creature's baby is the best idea ever.

Vodrick looks back towards the entrance of the cave and the source of the loud sound and blinks "Right, Gonna go ahead and put 3 gold on that NOT being a rescue party." He looks back towards the small opening and yells into it "Might wanna make your way out now, mate. Whatever is comin back is not likely in a good mood, if we make our way quickly, I could possibly get you to safty while it is busy with things that hurt it."

<OOC> Rakim says, "Just to let you know, I have a shade under 2 hours. Sorry but then it is dinner time and we are having ribs so :P"

Vodrick quickly unfurls a torch and begins to light it

And the scream is louder as the large drake comes inside. It is easily huge, massive, over 15' tall and probaly weighing in the tons. Its scales are white, pure white and it looks upset. Especially as it sees...eggshells, not eggs. It looks like a wingless dragon.

<OOC> Rakim says, "Rgr" <OOC> Tiasa says, "alba" <OOC> Alba says, "And now the *fun* spell." <OOC> Alba gonna barf spiders *all over* this drake.

Vodrick spots the dragon fairly easily as it stops in to chat and, thinking quickly he slides a smoke stick from one of his pouches and slides it into a patch of fire in front of him "Now would be nice Mr. Miner" he says as the stick ignites and creates a large wall of smoke obscuring the view of himself and the hole in the wall

It is now Drake's turn! Rakim is next!

Pushing up the mask, and the hood of her wrap with it, Alba leans on the point of her javelin. Once more her throat begins to bulge, but instead of a single explosive cough... what passes her lips does so a bit a time, at first. A single, coin-sized spider, stippled in broun and gray. Then another, and another, until eight-legged horrors fall from her mouth like rabies foam, crawling over and around itself until the pile of spiders reaches knee-height. Once the last bug has been conjured, the swarm flows into action, skittering up, over, and around the drake, tiny mouthparts chewing and tearing at draconic flesh.

<OOC> Rakim says, "Needs to idle for 10 very soon"

The drake is distracted for the moment trying to get the spiders off, but some might notice it doing a deep breath.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "vodrick" <OOC> Vodrick says, "what is the miner doing?"

Rakim shifts a little to try to get a better bead on this drake, but it rather seems in vein as his crossbow bolt goes very wide, striking sparks off the rock roof.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "you heard him going deeper in wherever he is, so he is no where near the combat" <OOC> Vodrick says, "well fuck." <OOC> Tiasa hmm? <OOC> Vodrick says, "is there a path past the dragon to the outside by chance?" <OOC> Tiasa says, "nope" <OOC> Vodrick says, "lovely." <OOC> Tiasa says, "it is 15' wide, takes up all the opening and what it doesn't it could get an aoo if you tried to go by" <OOC> Vodrick says, "right then, comin from behind the smoke, I am gonna try and take a shot into it's mouth. if it is inhaling, that usually means bad things." <OOC> Vodrick says, "if that isn't a thing then, just shooting in general X3" <OOC> Tiasa says, "okay, roll to hit" GAME: Vodrick rolls weapon1+1: (16)+6+1: 23 <OOC> Tiasa says, "roll damage" GAME: Vodrick rolls 1D4: (1): 1 <OOC> Vodrick says, "wasn't sure if I got sneak or not, didn't roll that die" <OOC> Vodrick says, "but the plan was to mostly try and stop it from inhaling more >.>" <OOC> Tiasa says, "it wasn't/...pose hitting it though not in the mouth" GAME: Tiasa advances the initiative order.

"Its home invaded and its children eaten," the witch murmurs, leaving the javelin behind to slip to one side. "It will not be sated until we fill its belly, now." Bringing both hands up to the 'mouth' of her mask, Alba throws her arms wide, producing a sheet of smokeless, orange-yellow flames that lash out and singe the creature... though when it jerks its head away, it manages to avoid the worst of the singing.

Pushing the mask down, she smears the resulting blood across the forehead of her mask, the stain glimmering greenish-red. Vodrick peeks up from his spot in the shells and takes aim again while the dragon is focused on the witch. He pulls back his string and fires true, his arrow streaking right for his neck. He pumps his fist at the shot....and then watches as it harmlessly glances off of one of his scales and sticks into the roof of the cave. He fumes and stamps his foot, barely missing one of the shells at his feet and yells, "Oh Come on!"

GAME: Tiasa rolls 2d6+3: (9)+3: 12

As the drake seems to take personal offense to her, Alba seems quite happy to respond in kind. Drawing a curved silver blade from beneath her cloak, the witch lashes out, her writhing pigtails slapping ineffectually at its scales while her knife draws a shallow line.

The drake is focused on Alba at the moment and while the swarm hurts it, it does vanish. She bites and slashes but only the bite finds its mark, luckily she still had temporary life support.

"Eluna grant me your grace" Rakim prays softly as he squeezes the trigger again. The bolt flies out and barely manages to hit it, scoring a line along the drake's scaled hide. He frowns slight and looks up to the heavens with a mutter of something but his fingers work to pull down another bolt as the arms move back.

Vodrick takes a breath and calms his nerves to try and steady himself a bit. "Alright, you can do this. Focus" he mutters. He then stands from his position behind the shells and draws back another shaft and takes aim, this time for something a bit softer. He lines up his shot, and with a steady breath he releases the arrow. It flew true, and with a sickening "Schnick!" it pierced the dragons eye, the feathers the only thing still visible as it was lodged in the socket. He blinks and jumps up with the shot finding his mark "Alright!"

While the teeth and claws are a problem to her, the scales seem a difficult barrier for everyone else. Thus, Alba takes a moment to meet the creature's eyes, the sly eyeholes of her mask glowing a dull crimson. Shaken by the power behind the witch's stare, the drake's reflexes slow, just a bit. Maybe enough?

About to shoot again Rakim sees the yucky witch of nope go down in a welter of blood and gore. He pauses for an instant in thought then duckwalks over to her, staying as far from the drake as possible. He prays in an ancient elvish language, one hand glowing a silvery light that suffices Alba's form when he lays it upon her. It sooths her wounds but she is not yet up.

Vodrick takes aim and fires another shot at the dragon. He was able to land a solid hit, but it didn't seem to bother it much. Looking to his companions, he frowned and grabed a bit of shell and held it above his head "HEY! you Great frosty Lizard. What would you name this one perhaps?!"

"Eluna grant thy servant a fucking break" Rakim mutters in a rather impious prayer. His hand glows a bright silvery glow as he lays it upon the unholy form of Alba, flaring out and healing more of her wounds. With that he moves away and takes aim with his crossbow.

Vodrick blinks as he is quickly bathed in a breath of sudden cold. His skin aches, his eyes water, and his knees very nearly buckle. As the cone dies down, the shell drops from his hand and he coughs a plume of snow and cold breath. He shivers from head to toe and reaches for another arrow. "Right, Touchy subject." He lines up the shot with it's still open maw and with a focused glare, he releases the shaft, sending it strait into it's throat, and lodging into the creatures spine from the inside. As the creature twitches and flails before falling still on the cave floor, he sighs "If it's any consolation, you get to see them now." and with another full body shiver he slumps to his knees and drops his bow, moving his arms to try and warm himself up "c...c...can we make a fire before we leave maybe?"

With its death the drake lets out a cry and then collapses. There is sounds from the distance and then a dwarf comes out of the small tunnel, leading a pony with ice shoes and a sled loaded with ice. "Well thank ye, did the wife send ya? I would have been home in a week. Well lets get back to my home and get you all warmed up." If any look outside, it seems the wizard, monk and ogre had left before the drake showed up.

Alba stirs, just in time to see the halfling put the final arrow into the drake, killing it dead. Coughing, pressing her pelt against the remaining wounds, she nods to Rakim in thanks, and begins to lever herself to her feet. Weaving her way toward the javelin left in the eggshell, she leans on it like a staff, surveying the carnage inside the minehead. At Vodrick's desire for a fire, the witch nods agreement... but then the dwarf offers his hearth, and that decides her. "...Before we return, I wish to see to the body of this beast. Its skull shall see much use, I think. I shall need a bigger jar for the pickling of its eye..." Still muttering semi-horrific and vaguely arcane plans for the drake's various pieces, she trudges after the miner and his home.

Rakim brushes down some frost from his coat and armor, and carefully reloads his crossbow before doing anything else "Well that was entirely unpleasant for all concerned" he drawls with a glance around the area. That done he slings the crossbow and takes small samples of the drake and the eggs, tucking them away in packets then into the capacious pockets of his coat.
