  • Emitter: Tiasa
  • Characters: Taidan 4, Kirran 5, Miruan 2, MAC-B1G 3, Durrankar 4, Radek 3
  • Place: Dwarf Mountains
  • Time: Aug 20, 2015
  • Summary: Mine in the Dwarf Mountains needs assistance
  • APL: 4
  • Encounter 1: 4 Monitor Lizards (CR 2) CR 6 Total

It is just another day at the Summit though some miners have run into a problem and asked for help. The irregulars were assigned to see what they can find out. You are given the directions to the particular mine that is running into trouble. The entrance of the mine is pretty quiet, just someone to unlock the gate, "We aren't sure what it was, just something in the dark injured a couple of the miners. If you can help, thanks." and then the miner is heading off to let you to it.

Radek is a lithe looking hobgoblin carrying a thunderbelcher resting on his shoulder. He nods as the job is described, then looks ahead into the cave, using his darkvision to see. He doesn't offer any comments though.

MAC-B1G was directed to this location by the movements of others. It followed one or more denizens as there seemed some urgency.

Miruan looks like she could either be a thug or a martial artist. Given her clothing, probably more a martial artist. She seems quietly concerned. "I see. Thank you," She offers to the man, moving easily with the others.

"Sounds like we're going on a hunt," Kirran comments as he makes sure his bow is properly strung. He smirks a bit. "Don't know the underground very well, but if you can point me in the right direction, I can track it."

Taidan arrives at the mouth of the mining facility, ready to do the deed that is expected of him.

Durrankar heard of the mine needing help and rather than ignoring it, the Sith-makar volunteered to help. His staff tapping along the ground as he walks his way with the rest of them. He looks to Kirran and his tail thumps a couple of times. "Peace on your nest." He says to Kirran, before he starts to sniff the air. "mmmm....if someone is in trouble, they tend to sweat a lot....and stink. It shouldn't be hard to find them."

"Situational update acknowledged." The large drab construct notes before approaching the mouth of the mine. It observes briefly before announcing loudly into the tunnel, "Directive: Unknown mine occupants, identify unti designations and exit the tunnels immediately."

The mine sits. It is dark inside, but considering the miners are dwarves they don't often need much light. Its quiet as well, just waiting for you all to walk in.

Radek takes point, "I'll move ahead a bit, I'm somewhat quiet, and if this goes off." he pats his rifle, "Then you know something happened. I also see in the dark, so there is that." He starts ahead of the group.

Miruan is quiet. She smiles politely to the others. "Sure thing. I cannot track things so well, so I will trust you. Should I abstain from lighting a torch, then?" Miruan does not have the ability to see in the dark, not really. She nods at Kirran, and will start to follow the others. She can at least keep a hand on the wall and take careful steps if a torch is a bad idea.

GAME: Radek rolls survival: (17)+8: 25 <OOC> Radek looks for clues <OOC> Taidan says, "I think most of us here need light to see?"

The golem follows the gobber into the tunnel. It followed the gobber from the city, so this is next logical option. The unit was informed that the gobbers were a source of difficulties due to adhesive phalanges, and the unit was directed to report any observed larceny.

<OOC> Taidan will cast dancing lights if there is no objection. <OOC> MAC-B1G has darkvision. <OOC> Durrankar also has darkvision....and low light vision GAME: Durrankar rolls survival: (3)+12: 15 <OOC> Durrankar says, "to get the scent." You paged Durrankar with 'radek you do find some tracks, lizard like' From afar, Durrankar is not Radek. <OOC> Radek has darkvision, folks can use light, but best to keep it at the back of the group so the darkvision folks can still see ahead You paged Durrankar with 'yep' You paged Radek with 'you do find some tracks, lizard like' Taidan has reconnected. You paged Durrankar with 'something lizard scent' <OOC> Taidan nods, "Casting it and setting it to follow behind the group." <OOC> Tiasa says, "ok" GAME: Taidan casts Dancing Lights. Caster Level: 3 DC: 14

Sniffing a couple of times, Durrankar looks to Kirran. "Thissss way." he says sniffing a couple more times. "Look for tracks of a lizard." he then blinks, then looks to Kirran. 'other than mine."

Taidan has partially disconnected. <OOC> Tiasa says, "still free poses"

Radek leans down for a moment, looking at a bit of dust and rubble. He grunts a bit then looks back to durr and nods. "Something lizardlike, but thats all I'm able to tell for now." He then gets back up and starts to follow the direction the trail leads.

Miruan seems good at moving quietly when she wishes. For her part, though, she seems content to keep an eye out, looking about and moving with the others. "Something like... um..." She's not entirely familiar with dungeoneering yet, but she seems eager and willing to help.

Taidan notes the absence of light near the mouth of the cave onwards. He begins to transfer his scimitar towards his other hand as he say, "I won't be of any good to this team if I don't have adequate light to see things. I will cast it behind us so that it would not impair those who can see in the dark". He casts a spell and four globes of light materialize, bobbing in the air. Maintaining a small degree of concentration on the four orbs, he set the to follow behind the group.

MAC-B1G pauses near a spot where tracks and scent were noted. It stoops, grasping a small pebble between large manipulators to study it. It then stoops further to put faceplate near the ground and ...moves its faceplate. Both motions are rough imitation of actions recently observed, but provide no new data. It rises and resumes its heavy steps. "Threats detected: Zero. Non-combatants detected: Zero."

It still rather quiet, other than normal mine tunnel sounds, distant drip of water, but the signs go deeper into the mine.

GAME: Taidan refreshes spells. GAME: Kirran rolls perception: (1)+11: 12 (EPIC FAIL) <OOC> Kirran says, "Just seeing what I can spot." <OOC> Tiasa says, "you see walls and tunnel" <OOC> Durrankar says, "oh yeah, Kirran." <OOC> Durrankar says, "I think I gave you a +2 on your tracking....." <OOC> Durrankar isn't sure...since I was trying to aid you.

Radek will still follow whatever tracks he saw, trying to keep an eye ahead, not wanting to follow tracks and end up bumping his head into whatever made them.

Miruan is looking about, but she has to rely on the light, keeping a hand on the wall just to be safe. The monk seems a bit wide-eyed at all of this. Still, she watches - mostly for things that might bother those checking the tracks.

From afar, Taidan has some injuries from his previous scene. "I'll remind you when we go into inits." <OOC> Tiasa says, "once everyone has gotten something in, will continue"

Kirran tilts his head at Durrankar, "Lizard? I don't think we know quite what it was. We will have to do a lot of sorting of things out. Did they say where the attacks or disappearances were happening? We should start there."

"That's all I smell, Kirran." Durrankar says pointing in front of him. "Go ahead of me, and I'll say something if the direction changes."

MAC-B1G continues behind the hobgobber, cyan-glowing optical receptors monitoring the path ahead. "Query: Availability of mine construction schematics? Data will improve efficiency of current task ."

Taidan falls into the old routine of guarding the group's rear, keeping the four glowing orbs from getting their illumination to interfere with others' dark vision.

<OOC> Taidan says, "Is there a decent sized foot-print of the lizard that I can examine? And what knowledge is required to get an idea of what it is?" <OOC> Taidan says, "Not Durrankar's footprint, but the non-allied lizard footprint." <OOC> Durrankar is trying to help out. Druid with Keen Scent. <OOC> Tiasa says, "perception and know/dungeoneering if anyone has it" GAME: Durrankar rolls perception: (17)+10: 27 GAME: Radek rolls perception: (7)+2: 9 GAME: Miruan rolls Perception: (14)+8: 22 <OOC> Taidan will assist others on perception as his is not good. GAME: Taidan rolls perception: (8)+0: 8 <OOC> Taidan failed in the aid thing. <OOC> Tiasa says, "mac, kirran?" <OOC> Taidan says, "But I think someone found a footprint? I'll roll Knowledge/Dungeoneering and see what I can gather." GAME: Taidan rolls Knowledge/Dungeoneering: (4)+8: 12 GAME: MAC-B1G rolls perception: (9)+7: 16 <OOC> Taidan shakes his head. "A bad day to be adventuring." MAC-B1G has partially disconnected. You paged Durrankar with 'the scents are getting stronger' You paged Taidan with 'from sounds, ther eis a chamber of some kind coming up'

There is faint growling sounds though they echo heavily.

GAME: Kirran rolls perception: (17)+11: 28 GAME: Kirran rolls k/dungeoneering: (18)+k/dungeoneering: 18 <OOC> Kirran says, "Wrong thing" GAME: Kirran rolls knowledge/dungeoneering: (9)+4: 13 <OOC> Kirran says, "There it is, sorry"

"I think we're going in the right direction. The scents are getting stronger." Durrankar says to Kirran....and sniffs a couple more times to be sure.

Taidan listens in to the conversation and then has his pacing slow down slightly. The sound that is echoing within the tunnels seem to have changed in its quality. He ponders over this things and then extends a hand out to the lead group, urging to stop for a moment. "Careful. Large open cavern ahead. It could also be a pitfall so get your lengthy poles ready to poke about. That is if you carried any on the way here."

You paged Kirran with 'growling a head. multiple sounds, and there is a cavern from the way it echoes.'

Radek nods to the others, lowering his thunderbelcher and loading it rapidly without even looking at it. "Well, I heard something, so I expect we are going to get bit soon enough."

Kirran studies the ground, his ears somewhat twitching a bit, as he seems to pick something. "Shhhh... Stop moving." He tries to get the others quiet. "There is growling... and... something else, nearby.... Sounds like it could be a cavern..."

THose that can see in the dark can see the opening ahead now.

Miruan listens, nodding. She slows a bit. She furrows her brows, watching and trying to catch the sounds of what they're talking about. Maybe is that -...? She'll just have to take their word for it for now.

<OOC> Miruan says, "Whoops, sorry." <OOC> Tiasa says, "you are fine"

MAC-B1G also detected the noise. Now is the most logical opportunity to repeat its prior directive. If they can detect the unknown occupant, it is reasonable that it can detect them. "Directive: Unknown occupant, identify designation and purpose," it emits in its bass vocalizations.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "how are we proceeding into the cavern?" <OOC> Durrankar is going to. <OOC> Taidan says, "Danger, Will Robinson!" <OOC> Radek says, "I'll move ahead" <OOC> Kirran says, "I'll take toward the rear being an archer" <OOC> Taidan would suggest sending his dancing light to make a sweep of the area. If anything is attracted to light, it might come out and pursue the light, providing us with an advantage. <OOC> Miruan will move towards the front, but she can't see in the dark. <OOC> Taidan can move the light up to 130 feet away from him. <OOC> Tiasa says, "afk a moment and then we will go from there" <OOC> Taidan says, "Any objections to my plan?" <OOC> Durrankar doesn't have any. <OOC> Radek says, "Thats fine, light away" <OOC> Kirran says, "None from me." <OOC> Radek says, "Magic fishing lure" <OOC> Durrankar says, "Also Taidan....hop on the channel." <OOC> Kirran says, "It will keep the OOC chatter for Tiasa to a minimum"

Taidan notes that the forward group has gathered at the edge of the cavern. He cast a spell (message) and points it at the lead group, making them hear him without the light getting near them. "I have a suggestion. I'm going to send my four globes of light out into the cavern and illuminate the area for us. If there is anything there that would be attracted to the light, it might make a move and allow us to see it for what it is. But I have to move to your location to optimize the reach of my spell... You can talk back to me where you are, my magic will allow me to hear what you are saying."

As you move into the Cavern the light for those that need it and for those that don't you see its fairly good sized with a large opening on the far side, but the big thing is there are four lizards the size of small horses in the cavern and all focused on you, they are on the other side. Looks like the growling was them arguing over some kind of food.

Miruan will move up towards the lizards. She's got to help the squishies, so there's that. For now, stealth is somewhat forgone given the light. She moves quietly, quickly and easily. Her stride is fast and she's quietly hoping not to get a face full of lizard.

Taidan was not expecting to encounter anything so soon. The light of his glowing orbs can't extend that far, but the reaction of his team mates indicate that there is something ahead. He immediately casts a spell on himself which causes him to begin to enlarge, including his weapons and gears. With a stray thought to spare, he directs the four glowing orbs behind him to shoot off into the direction of the cavern and illuminate that which has been veiled by darkness.

<OOC> MAC-B1G nods and stays with the wounded one. <OOC> Tiasa says, "okay." <OOC> Tiasa says, "so 60'"

"Threats detected. Initiating response." The ovaloid cylinder on MAC-B1G's back plate articulates upwards over its shoulder plate and telescopes. The forward portion is caught and supported with its right manipulator while the left is lifted to lock palm port into the rearward portion. This provides power and the tip glows blue as it charges before unleashing the energy to burn a hole through the wounded lizard.

Taidan completes the casting of his enlarge person spell on himself and towers over most people in the cavern. His voice takes on a lower pass as his vocal cords have increased in thickness as well, making him speak in bass tone as he cast another magic spell. This time, the result is four puffs of smoke producing four enlarged Taidans. It seems strange to have all five enlarge images fit inside the narrow corridor, but it did. Magic warps the surrounding most likely. Or warps people's perception. "Alright, where do you want me to be?" He (all five images) says as he moves forward to the front, his scimitar and buckler at the ready.

Well, no time like the present. Miruan has to help! And so she moves quickly and smoothly to try to punch a lizard. It's sort of funny to watch as she stands on her toes for a moment, then rears back to ... totally whiff. Punching lizards is harder than she thought.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "miruan you are being held by a lizard." <OOC> Miruan says, "So I think my action this round is breaking free?" <OOC> Tiasa says, "okay make the attempt"

MAC-B1G pans to one target, only to find Miruan and Kirran in the line of fire. It stomps towards the other mobile threat, cannon flipping up and over to stow en route. The construct raises one armored and reinforced forarm to strike the reptillian skull, shattering it and neutralizing the threat.

Miruan is grateful for the help. "Ow! Thank you! BAD LIZARD! YOU ARE A VERY BAD LIZARD!" She shakes her arm, even bracing her foot against the lizard's jaw. "C'mon. LET GO!" Naughty lizard. It's an alarming grapple of monk v. lizard. Miruan is duly annoyed. Her first adventure and she's already got something latched onto her.

GAME: Radek rolls ranged: (17)+7: 24 GAME: Radek rolls 1d12: (4): 4 <OOC> Tiasa says, "hurts it" GAME: Tiasa advances the initiative order.

It is now Taidan's turn! Durrankar is next!

Radek simply nods to Mac as the one in front of him is taken out, and the Hobgob turns calmly to fire at another one, managing a small wound. He grimaces slightly while loading another round.

<OOC> Taidan says, "Okay, with my luck I am likely to miss. Power attack the one grappling Miruan." <OOC> Tiasa says, "ok" Taidan pages: AC lowered to 18 due to enlarge spell. Strength boosted by +2 due to size. Another strength boost due to enhancement (+4 bulls strength). Strength overall bonus is +6. +1 from MW scimitar. BAB is a paltry +2. I will be power attacking so that reduces my BAB bonus to +1. So my overall bonus to attacks is +8. Taidan strides forward to engage the lizard that has Miruan in a vise grip. His footsteps causes the ground to shake as he plods his way towards his target. Raising his sword, he drops it down at an arc over the grappling lizard, trying to avoid hitting Miruan. His calculations were not at par with the current moves being executed by both grapplers, and he misses his swing by a wide margin. "Pick on someone your own size." He booms at the lizard, not really expecting it to understand what he is saying.

<OOC> Durrankar thinks Flaming Sphere just attacks the one it's in the same space with. <OOC> Durrankar keeps thinking it's the 4e one too....but it's not. <OOC> Durrankar says, "the entangled one it is." <OOC> Durrankar says, "DC15 reflex save." <OOC> Durrankar says, "all righty." <OOC> Durrankar says, "reflex save for the flaming sphere" GAME: Durrankar rolls 3d6: (16): 16 <OOC> Taidan says, "I think I made a mistake, Tiasa." <OOC> Taidan says, "range, instead of ranged." Sighing in relief that Miruan's free, Durrankar turns his attention to his flaming sphere, where it's still hovering near the lizard. Ironically, the lizard is way too close to the fire, and it burns to a crisp on the spot. Durrankar then waves his hand to have the vines withdraw. "Are you all right, Miruan?"

Taidan shifts his scimitar to his other hand and extends his hand out at the entangled lizard. His eyes narrow into slits as he brows knot in concentration. Energy begins to solidify in the palm of his outstretched hand, a ball of compact wind energy coalesced. With a thought, he projects the balls to go into a straight line towards his intended target. But his thought were not focus enough and the ball of compact wind energy disentegrated harmlessly on impact. "Well, this is a day for many short comings." He sighs as he ends the spell that keeps him in an enlarged form, but holding on to his four duplicates a little bit longer. "At least we are all alive to see another day."

MAC-B1G recovers its stance following the powerful blow that shattered another of the threats. It scans the immediate vicinity. "Threats detected: 0. Combat mode disengaged." Its cyan optical receptors dim significantly as the power overcharge is ended, leaving its systems lagging in the wake of the fluctuation.

Radek takes a few moments to take a small rag to wipe down his barrel, then leans his rifle back on his shoulder as he looks around. "Is this it?"

Kirran sighs as the last one falls and lowers his bow, having been ready for his next shots. "Let's make sure that there aren't more things, or other threats around here before we tell them that the mine is clear..."

Miruan is also relieved as she's free, though her arm is fairly bloody. She looks a bit hurt. Watching the lizard finally get blasted was nice. She nods to the others. "Thank you. I'm - okay. Ish." She'll live, she's not bloodied. "I am grateful for your assistance."

A look around shows the opening at the back to be where this lizards apparently tunneled in, and there doesn't seem to be sign of anymore.

GAME: Kirran rolls perception: (5)+11: 16 <OOC> Kirran says, "For any tracks indicating anything more" GAME: Durrankar rolls survival: (18)+12: 30 GAME: Durrankar rolls perception: (17)+10: 27 <OOC> Durrankar says, "to see if I smell or see anything." Huh? (Type "help" for help.) <OOC> Tiasa says, "nope no signs of anymore, this seems like it was it"

Radek stands ready, mostly like a sentry waiting for something else that might jump out at them. When nothing does, he starts to relax a bit more.

Taidan shakes his head as he looks at the tunnel through which the lizards have burrowed through to get into this cavern. "A lot of chance encounter happening these past few days. Two black drakes coming upon some farm sheep for food. These four large lizards..." He does not add the first encounter he had since he arrived in Alexandria, the memories to horrible to dwell on for even a moment. "I bet the soothsayers are getting rich right now."

"I am glad you're okay too." Durrankar says touching a wand to Miruan. He then looks to Taidan. "if they are making money on this, they are not true seers."

Miruan is looking about, but she's not an experienced tracker. She blinks. "Two black drakes?" Her eyes widen. Yikes. "I'm glad the lizards are gone, at least." They shan't bother the dwarves anymore. "Thank you," She says to Durrankar as he touches a wand to her. She can likely figure out what's going on after a moment.

"Do not listen to omens, or else you shall see them everywhere. One problem at a time." Durrankar says softly to them all. "Come." he thumps his tail twice. "Let us go back and tell the dwarves the cave is clear.

Taidan looks forlornly at Durrankar and states something he heard from someone else, "Desperation breeds opportunist. It's the way of the world." He resheaths his scimitar and places his buckler behind his back. "I don't blame them." He gazes back at the dead lizards that litter the cavern. "It's just the way of the world." He repeats his previous thoughts, and makes his way back to the group, "So, a round of drinks at the local tavern to liven up our sour mood? I'm buying!" He grins, falling back to his Aesirian upbringing.

Kirran nods a bit as he surveys the area with the others. "That seems to be it. I don't see evidence of more than four of them. I think we can tell them that this is all clear, and they may want to cover this up unless they want to mine it." He puts his bow away for now and walks back with the others. He blinks at the mention of drinks. "I will take you up on that offer," he smiles. "Probability of additional threats: low. Task complete." The construct deems the current result acceptable and turns to face back along their path.

Radek looks over at the mention of drinks, and he manages a small chuckle. "A valid way to finish off a mission." He wraps up his rifle in some cloth he uses when he doesn't plan to need it soon.

<OOC> Radek says, "all good."

Miruan nods at Durrankar. She will follow the others. "May I have some tea? Well, I guess one drink couldn't hurt..." The monk seems quietly amiable to the idea. Moderation in all things.

The miners return and thank you for your work, and compensate you, letting you all go on your own way again.
