Welp.

Sinking an arrow in a mess of soft tar isn't the hardest thing to do and Sarcis does it well enough. The tar seems to take the hit relatively well, unfortuantely for her.

The tar elemental creatures seem to be fully emerged now, having drawn the lake of tar much up into themselveas they seperate and begin to move with great schlorpign sounds. One of them reaches out and smashes its fist into DUncan's side while another attempts to grab hold of Ilmig. The force of its blow is hard, but it doesn't manage to get a hold of him.

Duncan's feet lift from the ground a few inches as the fist this slams into his side. Flecks of tar fly from him like a dog shaking off water as he's smacked. Duncan grits his teeth and clutches his hammer's handle with both hands. His eyes glow briefly, and then tiny arcs of electricity crackle and arc up the handle. They reach the hammer's head, just as he slams it into the tar monster's side in almost the same place it hit Duncan.


GAME: Ilmig RAGES!, gaining +2 to melee attack/damage/Will saves and 14 temporary HP

"That allyagot ye overgrown snotball!" Ilmig asks the tar thing. Then he axes it. Neither lands on point.

Yelrona , for reasons that are not entirely clear, fires three arrows into the wall, then swears colorfully. It's not as satisfying as when she used to do it in Mysandraal.

ANother arrow from Sarcis zips into the tar creature Duncan has so far injured!

Duncan draws back and then slams the hammer back into the tar creature once again. This time he hits it in the broadest part of it's chest. It's a massive hit, landing the hammer squarely. But this time when Duncan tries to pull away, his hammer sticks. Cursing he stumbles back, empty-handed. "Does anybody have another weapon? Anything!"

Immediately after losing his weapon to it, the tar elemental lashes out and slams its fist into Duncan, lifting him up with the force of the blow. Ack!

"Aye! 'Ere ye go, lad!" Ilmig always has his fair share of axes, and his fair share is more than one. He tugs one from his belt and passes the battle axe to Duncan. Not his favorite, current one, but it's still an axe.

Yelrona adds another arrow to the collection sticking in the Tar Baby, and delivers two stinging attacks to the wall, which apparently killed her family in a previous life or something because she sure does have it in for that wall tonight!

Sarcis puts an arrow in the same one Duncan is shooting expertly! She looks pleased with herself.

Duncan twists to accept the axe from Ilmig with a look of gratitude. It quickly turns to one of glee as he pivots back, gripling the axe with both hands and bringing it around in a heavy two-handed blow.

The tar monster lashes out at Duncan once more, st rriking him powerfully and leaving him wounded. It's second fist, a grab attempt to pull him into its mass, is not so succesful.

This is a good thing.

Ilmig too is nearly grabbed as Sasha's healing energies fill the area but, all the same he's able to avoid it and the woudns aren't as sever as they ogu ht to be. The Khazadi is made of tough stuff!

Yelrona changes strategies and tries to hit the wall, instead. Perhaps predictably, two of her shafts fly true and strike the Tar Baby, killing it... or, well, whatever the corresponding condition is for a Tar Elemental, which isn't exactly alive to begin with.

Kore ifnally loses her temper. She charges through the cavern , feet thumping lightly against the ground, and takes a flying leap kick that seems to hurt one of the tar creatures. She also sinks three quarters of the way into it like it's made of quick sand. Ilmig quickly moves over to help but despite his tugging he only manages to free a single hand. With this she pulls a vial from her belt and quickly pours some of it over the tar creature. She's free , all at once, the solventeating whatever bonds made her stick to the creature. Kore falls unceremoniously to the ground.

Yelrona switches her attention to a new target, adding to its arrow collection.

Another arrow from Sarcis joins the others, sticking in the tar monster.

Duncan tugs at his hammer. When it doesn't budge his race flushes. His eye twitches. His beard begins to bristle. He suddenly turn, grips the borrowed axe until his knuckles turn white. Then he launches himself at the remaining tar creature. He brings the axe crashing into it's midsection as he approaches.

The tar beast lashes out at Duncan in response to his pressing in but it doesn't connect. An arrow from Constantin zips in and strikes it, burying inside the tarry bulk of the creature.

Duncan hews away at the creature, doing his best to cut it down as he would a tree. Bits of tar fly off his arms, the last remnants of his dip earlier under the surface, although the rest of his body is still covered.

Constantin keeps shooting at the tar-beast, aiming high, above the heads of his compatriots. He errs high, too, but one of the shots sinks into a lump that's proximal to a shoulder.

GAME: Whirlpool removes the timestop.


Kore lands on the ground beside the tar creature. Underneath it, really. SHe's viewing the world through a dark, ichorous haze that she can vaguely identify as tarred ooze flesh. "Well, this is revolting," the girl half-mutters to herself. She studies the thing for a moment then takes a deep breath and drives ahand deep int othe ooze, fingers used like stabbing implements os that she can drive her hand deeper. Then Kore twists and pulls, tearing into the creature before it's finally slain. It leaves Kore covered in smelly tar, her gray face slightly pale. "Well. That's that, I suppose..."


Duncan pants to catch his breath. He returns to the corpse of the first creature. He grasps the handle of his axe with one hand. Then he uses the axe in the other to cut it free. Holding bith weapons he uses them to scrape tar off of each other. Then finally he hands the hammer back to Ilmig.


It'll take a while to get the tar off.

BUt that doesn't expplain what they're doing here or why the Xorns are missing.

Or why they're /here/ in thisd place now.

Still, you hafve a burtrowed tunnel to start heading down, and as you do, you begin to hear distant rumbling, like boulders down a hill.


Constantin lowers his bow cautiously, and considers the creatures. "That's unpleasant. Decidedly unpleasant." He slings his bow and draws out shield and sword. "Uh-oh."
