  • Summary: Aryia and Violet are studying up on some lore and language work respectively within the Quill's Repose. The mute bemoans the fact that most works require reading between the lines that are already read between and Violet surprises Aryia with some fluency in her native tongue. They contemplate inviting a sibling over for dinner as well.

Quill's Repose, Library

A scattering of papers and books are strewn about the table while a light rain drizzles against the windows outside. A mul'neissian woman in a green jacket rubs at her face and chews on a pen after pushing some papers around. She huffs, looking over her pile of things to glance to her table partner.

"I fucking swear, one thing I hate reading more than anything is stupid prophecies and their vagueness." <Handspeech>

"I thought you liked reading?" the purple streaked brunette signs in rejoinder over her crennelated wall of supplemental tomes.<handspeech>

An obsidian eye closes in a cheeky wink over the peppering of freckles, even as her artfully plumped lips draw up at a corner in subdued playfulness.

The human shifts some to scribble more notes into her already volumous collection of same, then her attention returns to her companion, "Specificity would certainly take all the guesswork out of things, but I think they do it on purpose for some reason." <sildanyari>

Aryia snorts and shakes her head. Moon hair swaying about as it was all let down to rest, framing her face and grazing her shoulders. "I like reading when its funny stories or shitty smut. This is like.. reading between the lines that you have to already have read between."

She scratches her scarred cheek. "Yes. Probably some dumb reason or another. Look, this thing here just says something about Eluna trying to help some mul'neissa from Taara. But like, this other thing doesn't say a damn thing about /how/. It just repeats it but with completely different words." <Handspeech>

Violet nods knowingly as Aryia begins her rebuttal, her lips baring a brief flash of white for her tiny grin, then she sets her pen aside once more.

"Elvish writings tend to be more densely stacked with subtext and double entendre's, I've noticed. Adding the required level of secrecy of hiding critiques of Taara in Mul'niessan literature takes it to a new level of cyphercraft." <sildanyari>

There is a little sigh, then, "I think the secret may be in the flourishes, and word selection, but I'm still cracking the nuances." <Undercommon>

Aryia chuckles silently. "Yes, lots of subtext. Especially when some of it is in Mysandraal. I swear, sometimes I forget how much we talk around in circl-"

The mute blinks. Then a broad grin plasters across her face as her ears do a little 'flick-flick'. "Hey! When did you pick that one up?" she gestures enthusiastically with both hands. "It /is/ a lot in the flourishes and selection, lots of triple meanings! Though that tongue is more towards just us mul'neissa. As well as beings of shadow." <Handspeech>

Hee! There's a subtle glitter of innocent delight in the play of the Mul'niessa's ears that never fails to brighten the human's expression a little.

"I told you I learned them fast, Beloved." Violet replies with a tiny proud smile that tickles the tootsies of smug before it is subsumed in her effected demeanor once more.

She gestures to one of the tomes, bound in blackened bronze, "I had a little experience with the script from trying to help Vaera with some of the runework of her original weapon. The alphabet is close enough to Sildanyari that I could put bits and pieces together." <Undercommon>

Her hand, fingers stained here and there with ink as befits one of her 'profession', reaches out to gently curl over one of her paramour's, then, "Plus, you've used some words, that helped with the sentence structure." <Sildanyari>

Aryia giggles silently, her brushing back some of her hair to affix Violet with a warm and happy gaze. "Damn you're a smart one," she gestures in a compliment, grinning.

Glowing gaze flicks to the bronze clad books. "It's close, yes. Though, uh-" She pauses to gladly take the hand in hers, threading her fingers through Violet's. "... careful using my words. If I'm talking in that, usually means I'm cursing something."

A beat. She colors a bit. "... but you'd know what I'm cursing due to this... thing about people understanding me. Did you know that people are figuring out my Handspeech now without them knowing a lick of sign?" <Handspeech>

There is a little squeeze as the fingers entwine, accompanied by a soft sigh, "That thing is part of why I picked it up so fast. Because I'm learning based on your, I'll likely sound much like I came from Charn." There is a little shrug, then, "Which could be situationally useful." <Undercommon>

As to the handspeech, Violet purses her lips, some, then, "Have you looked into anyone else with that... talent? Maybe there's a way to disable it when you want to be discrete?"

Aryia gives the hand a squeeze in return, her leaning over to rest her head on Violet's shoulder for a moment as she listens. Still, she can't help but have the grin plastered on her face at hearing her native tongue spoken by her love. "Glad I could help. Probably would impress the hell out of my parents, too."

She rubs her face with her free hand. "I... don't know. I know anyone that can do it. Maybe... I should ask my sister? Probably should... she'd know for certain. It's alright though, it's been really helpful as of late." <Handspeech>

The human smiles and leans her head against Aryia's for a light nuzzle, then, a little snerk, "I bet it would, at that." she concedes.

Violet kisses the ivory pate, then whispers, "It would probably raise some questions." <sildanyari>

The brunette lifts her free hand to gently comb the Mul'niessa's hair, and, "She might at that." Her expression dims thoughtfully, eyes scanning along Aryia's features for signs of her mental state on the matter. Aya is very important to her North Star, after all, and the retrieval wasn't all rainbows and mead.

"How is she? I ran into her in the market a few days ago, but she didn't stay long." she inquires softly.

Aryia softly sighs and returns the nuzzle, but she shrugs lightly. "I just tell them I taught you some."

She pulls back a bit, staring a bit at her studying with a frown. Though, question poised, it makes her expression perk right back up. "Oh, she's doing a lot better now!" she gestures fluidly, smiling even.

Seems like everything was doing quite well on that regard. The topic doesn't even make her flinch. "You did? Well, I'm glad she's getting out and about rather than holing herself up." <Handspeech>

A nod, then, as the return seems to meet with some approval of the repurposed information gatherer.

Violet smiles, stroking the ivory locks further and nods anew, "I imagine we'll have dinner plans, soon." The spicy jacks will likely raise questions, so, best to be forewarned.

The mute's eyes flutter closed at the gesture, her lulling her head into the hand as the mere touch evaporated all worries and woes. She nods subtle, felt more in the hand in her hair than seen. "I'll see about dinner plans. That'd be nice to have her over."

A soft sigh leaves her, and she rests against Violet. Studying abandoned for now. <Handspeech>
