Alright, you were all called together for a mission. There have been reports of a group of raiders attacking caravans passing through a certain patch of hills. The cityguard and such still has their hands full with the demon problems plaguing the city so additional forces are needed to look into it. That is where the three of you come in. You have been given a wagon with empty crates pulled by a couple oxen. The idea is to head into the area and draw the culprits out.

So you find yourselves outside of Alexandria, heading along one of the lesser travelled trade routes.

Terewin lounges in the back of the cart, watching the sky. "You think can convince them just to surrender? Without bloodshed?" the well dressed swordsman sort of asks out loud "Would be nice right?"

"It would be nice, but I fear most of my influence is not with most humanoids. Mostly Sith-Makar." Durrankar says softly. "But yes, it would be very nice if they surrendered." he says to Terewin.

At the rear of the wagon, Alba drifts lazily, her shaggy-fur wrap pulled loosely around her. The upper part is left to hang behind her, leaving the back of her head open to view, but only the inch of empty air between her and the road can be seen beneath. For the most part, the Witch has been silent during the trip, mask turning to regard their surroundings... but as Terewin speaks up, the smooth, polished oval of bone turns toward him. "....I could," she says, her voice low and amused. "They would not enjoy the convincing."

Durrankar hrfs at Alba. "Current lower body wear for most humanoid tend to add an additional barrier when facing that sort of convincing Alba."

Terewin shrugs "Would be better than running them through with a sword. We should try and talk them into surrender first at the very least, it would only be fair." the swordsman says with a firm nod. "Afterall if we just ambush and kill them it doesn't make us much better, not enough anyhow."

It seems fairly quiet for the moment, not much really in sight. The tree line rests about 50 feet on either side of the road and there are still signs of once upon a time when trees were cut down to make the road. You are getting deeper into the hills and its harder to see around each next been due to the levelness of the terrain.

Durrankar's wit earns the Sith a dry, amused snort, and the witch swoops up onto the back of the cart, 'sitting' on its edge. "If they seek to kill and take, then to die is what they have earned. But, it is more fun to make them regret every step that led them to draw weapons upon such as we. So, and so... If they surrender, then all to the good."

Durrankar says, "I'm in agreement with ALba." The staff suddenly speaks up. "Nobody asked you." 'Yes they did'. "No they didn't." 'Yes they did.' "Shut up." 'No.' "Butt scratcher." 'Shutting up.' Durrankar eyes the staff for a second before looking back to Alba and Terewin. "I'm in agreement with Tyrannix though." 'I knew it!' And durrankar looks at the staff. 'Oh, right...right.' Durrankar shakes his head. "If they attack us, they will meet the Death Singing Dragon. If they surrender, we shall try and make them change their ways.""

Terewin sits up and starts watching the tree-line "Nah, if it comes to blows better to make it quick. I would really rather not bring more suffering into this world." he notes with a grimace. "Quick and clean should be plan B I think."

"....Hn," Alba grunts. "...Suddenly I do not enjoy what this one plans." Kicking off the cart, she drifts toward the horses, clucking at the beasts. "Worry not," she murmurs, soothingly. "If it is that you should fall from this plan, feed us well, you will..."

It is still rather quiet, nothing out of the ordinary, or is there.

Durrankar Nods to Alba.....before he sniffs once....and turns his head to look among the trees. he then looks to Alba and points to one of his eyes, then points up.......

Terewin eyes Durrankar and then looks at Alba "What? Something to see up there?" he looks up at the sky as if to make something out.

Alba's mask tilts to one side, a dull-gray adamantine razor peeking from beneath her cloak, bobbing once in lieu of a nod. Once again, she plays at sitting on the edge of the cart, humming a tune devoid of rhythm, or indeed pleasant musicality. "Nothing to my eye, swordsman, or yours," she says. "But to the shaman's nose, there is much. 'Ware above, for soon we shall be set upon."

Durrankar says, "There are many things in the forest....some that are naturally disguised, some that try to draw attention, and some that are deliberately trying to disguise. The last is what I smell...plus I saw something in the trees. Someone doesn't know how to sit still.""

There is definitely something in the trees, and looking close they are large, something in the tree line on either side of the road. The exact details can't be seen, but you know there is something there.

Terewin doesn't seem all that concerned, still leaning causally on the side of the cart "Well it looks like company, think they will make this good? That they might have any good swordsman?"

"It is likely," Alba mutters, shucking off her hide and tossing it into the cart. The witch whispers a series of low, spidery words that crawl all about the ear to listen to... and then, wherever there is exposed skin, slitted red eyes open, turning this way and that entirely independent of each other. "And I will be ready to meet them."

Durrankar says, "Well....we're definitely being followed, or we're riding into a trap.""

As you watch, there is a bit of a roar, and an echoing roar and then two massive muscled humanoids step from the tree line on either side. One might think they were just giantborn except for the fact that they have the heads of bulls, and large sharp looking horns on their heads. They all are carrying greataxes.

Durrankar sniffs the air again and huffs quietly. He places his hand on Terewin. "They are Minotaurs. Their charges are nasty, so be careful." he then looks to Alba. "Can you two keep them away while I set up my next spell?"

The minotaurs almost as one lower their heads and charge forward intending to gore them with their horns. They roar a bit with rage as they charge and tear up the ground to get to them. Two charge Durrankar but neither manages to hit. One charges Terewin and does manage to Gore with his powerful horns though it was almost deflected. The last one charges Alba and fails to gore her as well.

The Witch's boots glow as she dances skyward, a trail of fire briefly outlining her sudden twist as she gains height enough that the minotaur is assured to be unable to reach her. Sweeping one hand in Durrankar's direction, Alba looses a trio of sharp, echoing words, and the sheer spite that laces them seems to rip the ground asunder. A multitude of rubbery, black tentacles burst from the ground beneath the minotaurs, writhing and flailing in search of berserker beef to crush.

Terewin doesn't apreciate getting gored, the blood stains terribly and even if he can find a dry cleaner that can get it out, its going to cost a fortune. With a flick of his wrist and a flash of steel his sword darts forward twice and runs the minotaur through, causing it to fall backwards, stone dead. "You see? Its very rude. You others care to surrender yet?" he says to the other minotaurs.

Stepping back from the two charging minotaurs, Durrankar abandons his initial plan and takes a deep breath.....before unleashing a gout of fire at both of the Minotaurs near the flailing tentacles. "Back away if you know what's good for you." Which they don't.

<OOC> Alba says, "This time, Summon Monster III. Happily in midair, it's hard to reach me!" <OOC> Alba says, "Also, CMD 21?" Both of the Minotaurs slash at him with their massive greataxes, though only one of them manages to hit Durrankar.

Alba cackles madly as the tentacles find purchase on Durrankar's attackers and begin to squeeze the life from them, turning a celebratory loop in midair. "Stupid creatures! See what comes of your folly!" Twisting to one side, she raises one hand to the sky, her hair writhing and lashing up and out, plunging into a white-rimmed hole into the sky. "COME TO ME, BRIGHT SOLDIER, AND MAKE THESE FOOLS BLEED!"

Terewin strikes the axe away that comes sailing his way, his sword flashing in the sunlight as he strikes thrice, the last running the minotaur through the heart. "They are not very good at surrendering are they? Pity."

Durrankar's scales take most of the damage, but it still cuts a bit into his chest. Durrankar looks at the two minotaurs and it's.....really obvious he's ticked. "You have violated the safety of this road in these woods. We had initially intended to try and talk to you.....but you have forsaken even that." That last word, he stamps Tyrannix on the ground. "NOW! YOU WILL BURN!!!"

That last word brings down a roaring column of fire on them both, slamming into the ground with a great deal of force.

THe Minotaur tries to break free so it can go after someone and does break free.

THe Witch's hair spasms once, twice, and yanks free, bringing with it an ant the size of a small pony, its carapace gleaming white-marble and gold and glowing silvery eyes. Onto the final minotaur it falls, stabbing it repeatedly with the needle-like stinger hidden on its abdomen. One has fallen to fire, two to the sword, but Alba laughs with savage joy, as the final one succumbs to vastly less gentle forms of death.

With the death of that Minotaur, things are quiet again. It seems to have just been the four, though it can see how unprepared caravan's might have had trouble with these guys.

Durrankar snorts at the Minotaurs as the Large ant makes an appearance. "Well done my friends." He then looks up to Alba. "by the way, Alba. I owe you a 'treat' if you can come out to Mictlan....after this mission." he then looks to Terewin. "Are you hurt?"

<OOC> Durrankar says, "Don't take down the Timestop yet."

Durrankar walks over, and tugs out a rather....worn, and odd looking little stick....that he brushes over Terewin's chest wound, which closes up after a few seconds. He does the same for himself, which closes up the chest gash. "Strange that there were Minotaurs out here though." He says putting the wand away. "Search them."

Drifting down to the pile of corpses, Alba tilts her head. Her hair snakes down, creeping over clothing and diving into pouches and pockets. After a long moment, one tendril snakes back out, a piece of paper clenches in its grip. Her feet finally touch the ground, as she gives the paper a swift glance, and shakes her head, holding it out. "It is a tongue I cannot read," she says. "Perhaps one of you may?"

Terewin walks over and tries to read the paper that Alba is holding "Good question. I am sure someone is putting them up to it, not exactly the most intelligent foes I have faced."
