Soldier's Defense, Morning

Most folks do not wish to be in the Defense, even if it is refuge from the sweltering, oppressive heat outside. A hospital is a hospital, and it doesn't help that all the refugees coming in with keeping the stifling heat down.

There is a figure that makes their way from bed to bed, a human woman in a white apron with a matching pair of brown shorts and shirt. She smooths back her black hair and croons, "Now now, sugar, it's just a little ol' cut, it ain't gonna be bad."

"... Ma'am, this is a stab wound," the Alethean nurse off to the side squints at her.

The human winks, puts a finger near their lips, and passes a hand over the patient's arm. The injury all but gone, only evidence that it was there was the bloody bandage.

"Next~!" she chirps, humming as she heads over to the next patient to see if they could lend a hand.

It had been several days since they had taken their job at the Adventurer's guild, and while most seemed to be in good shape, Eztli was only looking worse that day. She had been set up in one of the single rooms reserved for those that either were or uncertain to be contagious, or perhaps simply for the peace of mind of the others there.

She was still allowed to wander the halls however, and the small makari peeked out of her room for a moment, before half stumbling out of it, and bracing one hand against the wall so she could slowly walk and find her way down to the kitchens and cafeteria area, in search of something to eat. It certainly looked like they needed it, as they were thinner than usual, and their eyes had taken on a slightly sunken look.

Aelwyn had taken his little odd courier jobs again. Take a box of this, vials of these, laundry that, seriously don't touch those - whichever gives a coin. No questions asked. Less trouble that way. Along the way, he had dropped by the hospital - biting on the end of a chewing stick, the ruddy sith-makar paid no attention to things like don't disturb the patients as he walked along with his glaive.

Which is how the draconian winds up meeting Eztli. "Spell... reader?" Aelwyn begins, then pauses and tilts his head, hands folding around his spear. "She does not look like she should be walking." Then another tilt of his head. "Sneaking away?"

The human woman posing as a nurse-for-hire stops short as Eztli all but stumbles out in the distance. She cocks her to the side in a brisk motion, then squints, lips pursed. "Eyyy shug, ya wanna take a seat? What'cha need?" she calls out, striding on up. She slows on the approach. "Man, Ez, hate ta break it ta ya, but ya look terrible," the human mentions in observation.

She turns her attention to Aelwyn, head tilting up slightly to read him. "See, even he agrees," she gestures towards him. "Yo."

Eztli stops her movement and looks around, until she finds two familiar faces. Or, one familiar face, and one semi-obvious disguise, based on the voice. She shrugs one arm, while the other keeps her propped up on the wall. "I'm still able to walk around just fine." The small makari huffs. "And of course I look like crap, that's why I'm here I guess. I appreciate the offer, but if I take a seat now, I'm not going to want to keep going to get something to eat."

Aelwyn turns his head towards the nurse. It was obvious the sith-makar was confused - turning his head this way and that. "'Even he agrees'?" The Dragoon with narrowed eyes and a questioning tilt. He takes a few steps closer and with his tongue partly out, begins sniffing the air. "... though there is agreement." He finally concedes on the taking a seat part.

With a roll of his shoulders, Aelwyn places the polearm besides Eztli; offering it as a support. "A movement that is in flight cannot be stopped without consequences," He says, then throws a nod over his shoulder. "Carry on back?"

"Oh you sweet summer child," the totally-not-Slixvah tuts. "Able to walk around, tsh. Yeah right. And I'm human."

A glance to Aelwyn, sky blues resting on him for a moment before she gives a nod. "Yes, the big guy can give ya a hand. Loo' get ya'self sitiated and I'll get something for you to nibble on. Then I'm takin' a look at ya like I said I would."

The human slips off to find a snack.

"Better than not moving around at all, that's how things get worse." Eztli huffs, but whatever front she attempted to put on was summarily ruined by a hacking cough. "Yeah, alright Slix, maybe a seat down somewhere would be best." She relents, reaching to hold onto the offered polearm. "Thanks, Aelwyn, I'll be alright though. But if you help me walk for a bit, I can at least find a spot to sit with the chairs not directly against the wall."

Aelwyn was just licking the air, not figuring out who's the real you behind the nurse outfit. The sith-makar visibly straightens more when he get's called the 'big guy', even if he tried to be subtle about it. "Long as one does not tear oneself along the way." He rumbles with a tail nudge at Eztli, when she starts coughing like that. Dutifully, he helps her walk towards the more comfortably not against the wall chairs.

"She is still recovering from that... 'spoon' mission?" The ruddy scaled sith asks.

It takes a minute or so for not-Slix nurse to come back, a tray in hand with a loaf of bread and a bowl of soup, her having not caught Aelwyn's responses. "Trust me," she starts, putting the tray down on a nearby endtable. "I know how hard it is ta drink soups when ya got a mouth like that. Dunk the bread, makes it easy peasy."

She pulls on some familiar looking white gloves, them making an uncharacteristic >wa-pah!< sound as the gloves snaps into place. "Ready for some of Slix's mojo?" she asks, rubbing her hands together.

"I'll be fine, it's just a short walk." Eztli sighs, before she's able to half walk, half stumble her way to one of the chairs set up like a lounge area for those working, and those stuck here. many were occupied with the influx of people, but it was possible to find a few open spots still. In fact, the hacking cough had scared away some of the people nearby.

Eztli slumps into the chair, sitting a bit awkwardly out to leave space for her tail. when Slixvah returns, she nods thankfully for the tray. "Yes, the spoon mission for that spoony thief." Eztli grumbles. "Turns out being near exploding zombies, and taking multiple trips into the sewers isn't good for someone's health. Who would have thought?"

"That's, depends on what it entails, Slix. but you're welcome to take a look if you want, I suppose."

"Should not trust spoons. They always bend the truth. Yet she is alive and will be doing well." Aelwyn puts his hand on Eztli's shoulders and gives her a brief comforting pat, before he moves to stand aside, letting Slixvah do her magic. His orange eyes turn towards the smacking gloves though, eyeing them. "... why not use them to remove the sewage the next time, Gloves?"

Nurse fictioner gives a laugh. "She did that on the way out, Flutter. Just 'cause gloves clean the outside don't mean stuff didn't up on the inside.

Human Slix gives a light smirk, her tightening the gloves up. "Ain't gonna cast anything on ya, jus' gonna poke and prod ya a bit to inspect. On myself though..."

She places a palm on her forehead, then chuckles in a twittering incantation, "Pone uory hridt eey." The hand slides away to reveal a glowing white silhouette of a vertical eye, little arcane tendril and runes spiraling around the forehead to trail off.

She rolls a shoulder, reaches down, and cups Eztli's face, gently pushing the small makari's head to and fro to see what's going on.

"I am alive, and hopefully I'll be doing well. They've been so busy, and the temples are kind of overloaded, so there hasn't been time for any clerics to stop by and do anything." The small makari sighs, before she reaches for the bread and tears a chunk off to try on its own. "At least you're doing alright, both of you.

She's stuck however chewing on the bread when Slixvah was taking a look, so she holds her breath, which was a bad idea leading to more coughing. "Yeah, think I inhaled something nasty when that zombie exploded, or when I fell into some of those spots in the sewers."

"No more sewers." Aelwyn states with a grin on his face. "Naturally right. Though perhaps the next time for the spelunking, a breathing device should be arranged. Spending all the time in the river to drown the smell is not good for the coin." He tilts his hip, eyeing down at Eztli. "And she still has books to read and performances to watch."

He gives a longer look at the eye that formed on Slixvah's forehead, fingers already curling around the polearm, just in case there is a need to suddenly dispatch a beyond from Slixvah. "Is she... alright?"

Slix chuckles, sliding a hand down to check Eztli's pulse on her neck. "And that's why ya dunk it so ya don' choke on it."

She glances to Aelwyn, the silhouette on her forehead shifting too with the motion. "Oh chill your scaly rear," she sassily tuts. "It ain't gonna bite. Or turn ya ta stone or anything."

Her attention returns back to Eztli. More poking and nudging. Thumb under an eye to pull it down slightly to check the sclera. Another pulse check.

In her human guise, it's easy to see her visage pinch and frown as she pulls away.

She doesn't answer immediately, her stepping away to get into a supply closet. A moment later, a handful of herbs is in one hand, the other a mortar and pestle. Both are placed onto the end table with a >thunk<. She gets to grinding. "Elevated heart rate but low blood pressure. Have you been finding it hard to see? Shortness of breath? Can't walk long distances?" she inquires as she works, her seriousness an odd discombobulation with the absence of her whimsy and carefree attitude.

"And yet I feel like they'll send us back there for some reason or another." Eztli sighs once she finishes coughing, and with Slixvah taking off for a moment, she's able to take some more bread, soaking it this time. "Well, that's not a look I want to see on someone looking me over. Either means I'm ugly, or that there's something of concern."

"Sounds like falling head over heels for someone in a moment, but, I don't think that's what's happeneing." The small makari chuckles weakly. "Yeah, been pretty exhausted these last few days, a bit worse every day. My eyesight is fine, though, or at least I think so."

"The chill is not necessary, Gloves." The Dragoon says with a grump, then leans back away with his spear and adds with a brief flash of teeth. "A hot rear goes a long way." Aelwyn returns his attention on Eztli, tilting his head. "There are plenty of lookers around; perhaps the diagnosis of the heart will not be fatal for the Spellreader." With another grin on his face, he taps the smaller sith-makar's shoulder. "Perhaps Gloves requires their space; I shall return the rest of my work. May she be well, Spellreader." He nods towards Eztli, and then towards Slixvah. "Gloves, peace on her sky."

Slixvah tsks, sounding like beak clacks that is unfitting of her softskin lips. "They need ta learn they're gonna wear their people down sendin' ta places like that ova and ova." She does, at least, give a short huff of a laugh. "I know I'm cute, but dinner first," she teases.

The 'nurse' looks over to Aelwyn, her stifling a snicker. "Yes, yes it does. I know that well. Lotta cuties in here, on that I agree wit' ya. Later Flutter."

A sigh leaves her, the fortune teller reaching into her apron and pulling out an empty vial. The ground herbs are dumped into it, and she grabs a pitcher of water to finish filling the rest of the empty space. A wave of the hand, and the concoction starts to steam. A thumb rests over the top of it, and she mixes it up by shaking it vigorously. "I /told/ y'all them goobers were plague zombies. 'Grats. Ya caught their rot."

She holds the vial out toward Eztli. "Down this, one go. It's bitter as sin but it should help."

"Yes, I know that for certain." Eztli chuckles weakly, chasing the amusement away with another cough. "Ah, thanks for helping me here Aelwyn. I'm sure I'll be fine, and I'll see you around, hopefully when I'm feeling better."

The small makari huffs and looks away. "Sort of, but I know it's a disguise." Eztli mutters. "You look better as an Egalrin anyways, and you're a lot fluffier to hug."

It was a joke that let her not look at the vcial too much until she was offered the vial. "Ah, was hoping that was something topical, but, if it'll help me feel better, then I'll try anything." She grumbles, before downing the vial and wincing. "Shit, all the stuff I've been to, and catch some plague of undeath from a random zombie in a basement? You were telling me that, but Nemori was telling me to go in and do something about it. Better than her getting mauled to death, or Kepri too, I guess."

Slixvah watches Eztli for a moment, her arms crossed but a light smile on her face. "Thanks, I know I'm rockin' as a bird. I'm jus' like this ta not give people a lotta worries. People find comfort in the familiar, ya know?"

She thumbs in front of her nose, probably where her beak would be. "... still can give fluffy hugs like this. Ya want one?"

The nurse snaps her fingers, cleaning off the vial and mortar with a bit of magic. "Well, better than like, something worse, like a wight. At least this ain't super hard to fix. You just have to /rest/." A pointed stare. "And take medicine."

She gives a sigh. "Yeah, Momo was yellin' at us ta get in there. But like, c'mon, got my fuckin' ribs cracked. Sorry it was rough for ya, but ya did good in there."

Eztli screws up her face somewhat as the rest of the taste of the medicine makes itself apparent, and she quickly reaches to stuff her face with more of the soup soaked bread in an attempt to taste it off. "Yeah, I guess I can understand that." Eztli sighs. "... I could probably really use a hug, to be honest Slix. I know I'll probably get better but, still a lot to take in."

"You got beat up pretty hard, I saw you heading back to the stairs. So, guess I kind of worried what was happening to Khepri and Nemori down there." She sighs. "I don't know what I'd have done if something happened to Nemori down there, I guess I worry about her."

"Yeah, Momo puts on a brave face, but she's not used to having to trust people. I wonder what she's been through, ya dig?" Slix hums, stacking the supplies into a small stack. "She fixed me up good though. Should help 'er with somethin'. Or buy somethin' fancy from her as a thanks."

She watches Eztli for a moment, her stifling a chuckle behind a hand as the makari attempts to ward off the taste.

Her eyes soften. "C'mere, sugar," she croons, stooping down on a knee to pull the mixed scale into a hug. Despite the way she looks, there's nothing but floofy feathers undernearth. And unseen, wings wrap around Eztli to give an all encompassing embrace. "... ya been goin' through a lot, girlie. But ya gonna be okay..." she coos, rocking her to and fro gently.

"She has trust issues, yeah. Wonder too, but I don't want to press her on it. It's okay, trying to be her friend at least, maybe she'll feel comfortable enough to share with you or me at some point. Things are easier to deal with when you've got someone supportive." Eztli nods. "It's still hard to see them being so callous about people though, but I do kind of get it. Maybe you could ask her to make some clips or something some of your ribbons, or a dagger? It's always handy to have one, even if not for actually hurting people."

The small makari sets down her meal when she sees Slixvah stepping down, and she hugs the egalrin back. The illness was even more evident, with scales and skin feeling loose underneath the robes.

"I'm going to get better, I promise. It wouldn't be fair to you or Aelwyn or Skielstregar or anyone not to." She mumbles.

Slix gives a little shrug. "Maybe she might, maybe she might not," she mentions. "Still should give her a fun night out to chillax a bit. Prolly would get a dagger from her."

The 'human' can't help but hold Eztli a little closer as she can quietly literally feel the sickness that sapped her. "Ya jus' gotta take care of y'self. Or, let others take care of ya. Aight...?"

"When I'm feeling better, that'll be nice. Maybe can actually convince her to go out and do something fun." Eztli chuckles. ""I hope so, at least."

The small makari sniffs once, and weakly squeezes the egalrin. "It's just a bit, much, how quickly things have gotten worse. But It should get better in a few days, I think. The healers that did come by said that, and if not, they'll bring a cleric in to deal with it."

"But they're busy here, that's why I was going out to get something to eat for myself. So, I just hope things won't be too busy, you know?"

Slixvah chuckles. "Yeah. Sounds like fun. Prolly can convince her."

The human gives a gentle hum, a hand stroking the back of Eztli's head. "It is a bit much. And that's okay to admit. Since its so much, it's ok to not do much to make up for it. Yeah, they busy. But there's bound ta be someone who ain't. C'mon, let's get you back to your room so you can lay back down. I'll take care of ya."

She helps Eztli up.

Eztli stands back up, and stretches one arm over her head with a wince. "This took a bit more out of me than I expected. You need to get back to healing the other people here, too. So that's okay, I'm probably just going to go sleep or something. Thanks for bringing me some food, and for all the help. I really do appreciate it."

She blinks, and looks back to where her room was. She really hadn't gotten that far from it.

Slixvah smiles as she pulls away, her assembling the dishes together to pick up later. "I'll swoop in to check on ya. Learned some mojo that lets me patch up a lotta folk without really takin' it outta me. And you're very welcome sugar, anytime. When you feel better, we should grab Momo and get drinks."

She looks back with Eztli, chuckles, and loops an arm under the small scale's shoulder. "C'mon cutie, lets make sure you get some beauty sleep."
