-=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--<* A04: Theatre District *>=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=-

While the area contains more than theatre, it is most known for its dueling play houses and established, theatrical families. Competition for talent, especially known actors and playwrights, is fierce. An example of these long-standing, yet well-entrenched feuds are the Flightwright and Flame's Hope--two theatres built within a hundred years of one another yet separated by more than ideology. Owned by opposing families, the various troupes have been unofficially "at war" for over a hundred years.

Ribbons in Ceinara's vibrant colors grace the streets, attesting to the District's colorful and creative background. The buildings possess no single style. Though not the quality in Upper Alexandria, this District rivals even the homes of nobility for spirit and style amid its contrasting bohemian and marble landscapes.

Aside from several well-known theatres, artists and crafters of all sorts make their homes here, as much for company as cheap rent. Callers-out stand on street corners, announcing the latest play, with what's in production reflecting the tone of the times and often, current politics. Street musicians abound, playing instruments or, for more visual artists, offering portraits for a few coppers to silver. Present, too, are Muses and their ilk, whose blessings the houses and various artists compete for.

The very center of the district is home to an open stage, an area raised a few feet from street level and paved flat. Anyone may perform here, and many do, though it's often an area for musician's gatherings and general lounging.

Mikilos has pie! Slightly burned, lopsided pie. And a fork. And a big smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. This may all have something to do with small collection of young ladies behind a nearby Fundraising booth for the Theater Repairs, who watch eagerly. "...delicious. Thank you very much ladies, I wish you the best of luck in your efforts."

Sonja tilts her head as she walks up and sees the slightly burned pies. "Uh.....new to making pies?" She then looks to Mikilos. "Or should I be asking you?" She says putting her hands on her hips.....

Mikilos grins. Big grin. Very big. With a quiet voice toned not to carry too far. "They tried very hard. Lots of effort and good intentions."

The Fundraisers look on with big eyes filled with hope. Not too much intelligence, but plenty of hope. They offer Sonja a perfectly-good-if-you-close-your-eyes pie for a very reasonble fundraiseing donation. It's for a good cause.

Sonja smiles to Mikilos and offers to try a slice of pie herself, placing a few coppers down for them before getting the slice herself. She then eats it and.....doesn't find it half bad......

Mikilos perhaps was not so fortunate. But the big smile remains as the elf places his now empty plate on the small return cart. "Thank you very much ladies. Very filling. If I happen across anyone, I'll be sure to send them your way."

Sonja finishes her slice of pie rather quickly. big mouth after all. "Mmhmm. Wonderful pie. I'll be sure to send them your way, ma'am." She then turns and starts to walk away. "What'd you relaly think of the pie?" She says quietly.

Mikilos coughs softly, smiles, waves, joins the walking away. "Made with more enthusiam than skill. Not -bad-, but not what I'd have chosen for myself. I'm not a great fan of pie to start with."

Sonja says, "It was decent, but not quite my favorite. Still, it's for a good cause." She keeps walking and chuckles. "What've you been up to, Mikilos? other than pie?""

Mikilos shrugs lightly. "Nothing of massive intrest. A few comissions of assorted magical items, a few field trips to gather components for the general Academy populous. For a while there I was busy crafting weapons for the Arena, but they're pretty flush now."

Sonja says, "I heard about the merciful weapons you created. Considering what's been going on, I don't blame you. Now it's a lot harder to.....die.....in the arena."

Mikilos nods, and shrugs lightly. "It seemed senceable. I was vaugely susprised when I learned they didn't already use such enchantments. Padded weapons are certainly less expensive, and better suited for novice, but for trained warriors to practice... well, they have the supplies now. And while I was happy to help, I admit I was somewhat happier with the extra busniess from those who'd had a chance to try my work and liked the quality."

Sonja chuckles to Mikilos. "agreed." She says continuing to walk down the street. "You DO make some good work, Mikilos. I'll admit though, I don't go to the arena. It's not......fair to me."

Mikilos quirks a brow, curious. "How do you mean?"

Sonja says, "Well.....I have to admit that I'm not very good with my martial skill. I may be trained, but I'm not a warrior. I simply......hit as hard as I can." She then sighs a bit. "If they're evil, I invoke the power of Daeus, and call upon the power of my weapon to hit them even harder. But, as an arena fighter? I'm not much of a showman.""

Mikilos nods, and shrugs. "So? Practice is to take where you are, and help you become better. Be that master bladesman or rank novice. Sure, the compititions are, well, competitive, but you needn't let yourself get pressured into showing off for a crowd. Martial battle is hardly my forte, but I go in now and again to hone what few skills I have."

Sonja chuckles. "I still don't feel the arena is a good place for my skills." She then shrugs. "But that's just me. It's like making sure to practice with your most dangerous spell so it hits."

Mikilos nods. "They do have straw targets that burn just fine, but I think I understand your meaning. But I'm not sure what sort of place would suit better for your practice. Does the Temple not hav some sort of excersize yard, where you might spar surrounded by those of similar skills?"

Sonja chuckles lightly. "They do, but it's not quite for someone of my size."

Mikilos grins, and waggles his fingers, the tips sparkeling in the light. "Certainly ways to alter that. Could be intresting to suddenly find everyone head and shoulders taller than you."

Sonja pokes Mikilos on the forehead. "DOn't even think about it, Elf."

Mikilos grins. "Too late. Though I wouldn't without permission. Could also make others bigger, if you'd prefer."

Sonja smirks at Mikilos. "No." She then playfully poke him on the forehead.

Mikilos ponders. "Suppose could practice against summoned demons or something, but that sort of thing is rather frowned upon, even with a good reason for it all. The summoning, I mean, not the fighting of demons."

Sonja chuckles. "Like the demon in the library. he really hated those books, didn't he?"

Mikilos frowns, and shrugs. "I still don't know what the deal with that was. Maybe just book hate, maybe something more specific. I suppose we'll never know for certain. Though I think I'd be better suited should it ever return when I'm present."

Sonja chuckles a bit. "If I'm there with you, I'll cover you, of course."

Mikilos smiles, and ponders. "Did you ever find what you were seeking that day? I fail to recall just what it was. The demon tends to overshadow the other details."

Sonja chuckles. 'believe it or not, I was looking for you to imbue my armor, Mikilos." She then pounds the stomach of her full plate. "And then we have a demon stampede in, and......I get the armor magically imbued and armor spikes too."

Mikilos nods. "Wasn't certain. Have a vauge recolection of someone looking for ancestorial documents, and I'm not remembering who it was."

Sonja says, "It wasn't me. Twas strange though. Perhaps it was the demon looking for someone's ancestral documents, and we defeated it quickly.""

Mikilos shrugs, and waves vaugely. "I suppose it doesn't matter. Have assisted people find something or another numerous times in the library. Suppose I should sme day find out the requirements to become an offical librarian."

Sonja chuckles. "you, an official Librarian? you're out too often to be one, Mik."

Mikilos shrugs. "Still spend more time in the Library than many. But yes, suppose I do have a few too many other duties. And goals that wouldn't really compliment, I suppose."

Sonja says, "Well....." She then thinks. "You could be an official Librarian, and use your off hours to make things.""

Mikilos nods, and smiles. "Though honestly the main reason I'd be intrested is to access the more restricted volumes. Always something more to be found and understood. But I think I'd have trouble holding the mindset of caretaker for the books of others, and not view them as my own."

Sonja chuckles. "That's the only reason why you want to be a librarian?"

Mikilos grins, and shakes his head. "No, not the only one. But a large one."

Sonja says, "well......you'd have to want to help the city, instead of making the books your own."

Mikilos nods. "Likely I'll be better off just finishing my own library. I think I've finally got the Council talked into allowing me to start building."

Sonja snickers. "Right. Just be careful, Mikilos. Making your own library also means you'll have more thieves."

Mikilos snorts softly. "Few theives are stupid enough to steal a wizard's books. And those that are that dumb are too stupid to make it past basic security. Though I admit, I'd like to smeday have advanced security options."

Sonja says, "I can't really help you there, Mik."

Mikilos grins. "Oh, don't sell youself short. Bit of direction and I'm sure you can build a sturdy wall just fine. Simple, but effective."

Sonja says, "aaaand you can make it a lot faster." She then chuckles and lightly whaps him on the shoulder. "See you later Mik. Hopefully your plans work out.....eventually.""

Mikilos grins and nods. "Suppose we'll see. Fare well."

Sonja has left.
