There is a local village in trouble. The village itself is up in the mountains not too far from Alexandria, something about big wolves stealing all their livestock. They haven't been able to see much sign of them, its only those watching the flocks of mountain sheep that have seen them and those are usually the youth, though the evidence is there, missing sheep. THey have decided to hire people to look into it, and that is where you come in. You have been hired to look into the missing sheep.

The trip into the mountains is uneventful as is the arrival at the village. They feed you, tell you what little they know and give you directions to the pastures, and that is where you find yourself now, at the edge of the closest pasture to the village.

Mel is a city boy, and this pasture thing is a bit past his skillset. He's otherwise eager and alert, though, and looks around to the others. "Does anyone know how to track and such?" That seems like the best way to start.

MAC-B1G does not require sustenance, and possess very little data on rearing livestock. The construct has become, howveer, passingly familiar with the mysterious disappearances of livestock. "Causes with highest probablities: predators and poachers," the unit shares its conclusions with the rest of the task force as they enter the pasture.

This sort of thing is right up Jessamy's alley. She's more than happy to sign up and help out, the lance, shield and gladius of Serriel hanging prominently from her neck over otherwise minimally adorned if high-quality armor. She listens carefully while she eats, but not until she finds herself at the edge of the pastures. "I am not a trained tracker." The wargolem, however, gets a look. "Yes, and it may be either in this place." She studies the fence to see if it has been breached or shows signs of a struggle.

Belladona has had to explain to Samafa a couple of times not to eat the sheep. She doesn't exactly agree with blaming wolves for the missing sheep. Wolves have to eat too. "I and Samafa can do some tracking, but if these are wolves I would ask that you let me try to deal with them at first. Perhaps an understanding can be come to. We could move the wolves away to less populated grounds."

Belladona moves around a bit with Samafa and she kneels down as she spots some prints. "Well good news it's probably not wolves." She says as she waves other over. "I can't tell exactly what kind of animal, but bigger than a wolf."

"Yes ... although if it were wolves or another predator ... would they not simply shatter the fence and slay them here?" Jessamy looks around the pasture, and unconsciously unslings the bow from her back. "I see no signs of that."

Mel sqiunts at Belladona. "Negotiate with wolves?" he asks incredulously. "Won't they come back here if they get hungry again?" He's still looking around, but he doesn't know how to track, so it's not much use.

Belladona looks over at Mel, "Not if we move them somewhere where they can live. It's not really there fault, the wolves are often here first and people move in."

<OOC> Tiasa says, "I see that if people can catch him up with the few poses missed on channel. and couple more poses then I will continue from there"

Mel nods to Belladona. "I guess if you know of a place they can go that they'll stay, that's fine." He sounds skeptical, but willing to go along with it. He shifts the shield on his arm uncomfortably.

"Predators," the construct refines its conclusions based on the discover of tracks. It turns and begins to follow said tracks, or, more accurately, those following said tracks.

There is little else to find at the pasture so the group starts off after the tracks which lead further up into the mountains, snow starts to litter the ground now, easier to track a little.

Mel pulls his coat closer around him as we get up into the snow. "Damned weather," he grumbles. His boots are thick enough. He's just ... complaining. "Though we got a meal out of it, so it wasn't bad."

Belladona hmms as she starts to follow the tracks. She waves, "Come on this way." She says as Samafa follows behind her and she doesn't seem to be surprised by the snow.

Jessamy shivers a little, armor and all, as the snow starts even so early in the season this high. She pulls her own cloak a little closer around her. "Mistress Modara is a fine cook, is she not? My ...." She stops, and leaves that one alone, taking up the back of the party in silence.

MAC-B1G may now be able to perceive the predator's tracks in the snow. Regardless, it continues to plod along with the others, receptors looking ahead for more direct sign.

Mel nods to Jessamy. "She is, yeah. I could learn a thing or two, that's for sure." He follows Belladona, looking left and right to make sure we're not getting ambushed. He's got out a javelin and his shield, just in case.

Mel sits up straight, suddenly, and nearly falls from the horse. He's not a natural rider, so he stays on his feet. "There's something out there, getting closer. Not sure what. But from both sides." He readies his weapons.

Belladona hmms as she looks around and she raises her hand, "There is something coming at us from both sides. Everyone get ready."

Large White wolves emerge from either side of you having blended in with the snow. They have deep red eyes and growls. Two of you are ready for them.

Mel is ready for them, when he sees them, and he casts the javelin as quickly as he can, but it sails over the wolf and sinks into the snow a little past it.

Belladona looks at Samafa, "Defend." She asks her companion as she takes out some herbs from her pouch and she starts to rub them between her hands. She starts to chant as she casts a spell and above her there is a crackle of thunder.

One of the wolves the one that Mel through the Javelin at moves forward and bites Mel pretty good, frost steaming around its mouth as it does. As if that wasn't enough it knocks Mel to the ground as well.

Mel cries out, "Ow, ow, get it off me!" as he frantically tries to avoid the wolf's counter attack. "I -hate- nature," he says over his shoulder to Belladonna. He tries to get to his feet, and then hits the dirt to avoid more biting. Instead, he kicks at the wolf from where he is. Sadly, his boots fail to kick wolf. He kicks a lot of snow, though. That snow has definitely been kicked.

When the predators emerge and one begins to predate upon a task member, the construct acts. "Threats detected. Combat systems engaged." A heavy step bring it near the creature holding Mel. Near enough that it raises and lowers two reinforced and armor forearms into the creature; metal upon flesh. "Release taskforce unit."

"What on Ea ... that's no ordinary wolf!" With a quick glance at MAC as he moves to help MAC, Jessamy unslings the bow and takes several steps forward, taking a bead on the other one approaching fast. Maybe she can draw it away from her companions... Her shot is true, but not in a spot that would truly hurt it, sinking into the shoulder. She has its attention, at least.

The wolf that bite Mel and was hit by MAC-B1G opens it mouth and spews a cold breath that hits the two of them, Mel manages to roll out of the way, MAC-B1G takes the brunt of it.

Belladona finishes casting as her eyes glow a bright green as she brings up her hands. The heavens crackle with thunder and Belladona brings down her hands. A bolt of lightning cracks though the air and hits the winter wolf although it's able to avoid some of the damage. "Winter Wolves!" She calls out, "Watch out for their cold breath, they don't like fire. Attack Samafa!" The lioness runs up and she bites at one of the wolves grazing it as Belladona takes out more herbs and she rubs them on her hands as she casts another spell on herself to ward off the cold.

Mel tries to get up now that the wolf is distracted, but it seems it's not sufficently distracted. "Ow, damn!" he shouts, pulling back his bloody arm and giving the wolf a swift kick. He is kind of half-assed about faking it out, so ... the kick connects, but not in a way that the wolf can't pretty much ignore. But at least he's standing! And bloody.

MAC-B1G catches the brunt of the cold full force, armor plates icing over and internal fluid flow slowing to sluggishness. The frost crackles as it pummels the white lupine again with its armored forearms.

Seeing the companion close with the wolf, Jessamy murmurs something. The shorbow clatters to the dirt as the paladin launches herself into a run, pulling the longsword from her belt. With a cry of "For the Guardian!", she strikes at the creature, using the momentum of her run to aid her swing. The strike is true, slicing into the creature.

Belladona raises her hands again as her eyes continue to glow and she brings down another bolt of lightning on the winter wolf. She takes out more herbs and she rubs it in one of her hands. Green fire sprouts from her hand and she throws it at the winter wolf. The green fire splashes across it's back as Samafa goes to bite and claw at the wolf. Her bite misses, but her claws dig in deep.

The wolf fighting Samafa and Jessamy looks pretty bad from the lightning and flames. It breathes icy cold on Samafa and Jessamy hurting them both and then turns to flee, but is ripped into by Samafa keeping it from running and the blade of Jessamy cuts deep, leaving it unmoving.

Mel wrestles his shortsword out of his belt now that he's got his wits about him, and he strikes with it, waiting until the war golem has its attention before hacking it down from behind, his blade doing deep into it's furry body. "Take that!" he growls roughly, yanking the blade out, followed by a gush of red blood over the white wolf pelt. He flicks his blade at the snow, a line of blood running off the steel.

Mel looks around for any more wolves, but doesn't see any. Limping noticably, he cleans off and sheaths his shortsword, then walks over to retrieve his javelin, sitting harmlessly in the snow where he threw it earlier. "So ... were those the wolves that took the sheep?" he asks Belladona.

The creature lets loose its frozen breath across Jessamy, catching her full in the face with a blast that freezes and cracks her skin, but that puts it in a vulnerable position, and her blade answers, slamming into the creature's neck and sinking deep. When the creature drops to the snow, bleeding, she takes a deep breath and turns away, looking for the state of her companions. "She has once again shielded me and mine, and for that I am grateful," she murmurs, lowering the blade and moving to help those who need it. Her own skin is cracked and bleeding in places from the frost, but she seems functional still. "We should ensure that there were no more."

MAC-B1G observes as one threat, then the other, are neutralized. When no more threats are immediately present, it redirects processing and power to damage control. One manipulator turns and presses a crystal attached to its cuirass. "Self-repair initiated."

Belladona whews as she looks around for any more winter wolves and she shakes her head, "Evil things give all wolves a bad name." She moves over and kneels down near Samafa to check her wounds. She winces a bit, "Cold damage is the worse to heal." She takes out some herbs and chews them up before she spits them into her hand and rubs it along where Samafa was injured.

Belladona looks over her shoulder at Mac, "I'll know in a few minutes. I just have to check it out." She stands up and starts to look around.

Mel meanwhile keeps lookout, returning to stand close to the party, but his eyes roaming, searching for more shapes in the distance. He's gripping the javelin tightly, ready to cast it again, as little good as it did last time.

JEssamy pauses, and sword still in hand, comes up beside the cook. "That looks nasty. May I?" Her eyes are on the bloodied bite that Mel sports.

It is quiet now, if they were alone, it does look like there are none others laying in waiting right now.

MAC-B1G begins to scan their surroundings as parts of its shell are automatically repaired from within. "No further threats detected. No indication of missing livestock detected." It reports upon what could be obvious.

Mel nods to Jessamy and lets her work on him. He's not going to refuse healing; that's probably the second best thing about working for the guild rather than as a soldier. "It feels nasty, too," he says with a bit of a pained chuckle, then holds still for her.

Jessamy isn't worrying about that right now. She plants the bloodied blade in the ground firmly at her feet and grasps at her holy symbol, placing it between her hands and murmuring a paean to the goddess Serriel. A wave of pale gold energy washes over those closest to her, and she smiles, her head remaining bowed until it is done. Only then does she look up at Mel. "That better?"

Mel breathes a little easier after the healing. "Ah, thanks," he says. "Yeah, that's better." He pulls a contrite face and says, "Though not meaning to sound ungrateful or anything, but if you can do it again, it'd be appreciated."

Belladona looks around and it's Samafa that spots the tracks. Belladona studies them and looks up, 'IF we are ready to go I believe that we can track them Or continue to track them."

The request draws only a smile from Jessamy. "I'm told I'm a terrible healer. Thankfully, my Lady Serriel has a few more gifts that way. She is only stuck with me for a medium." With that, she repeats the paean, and the process, curly hair shrounding her face as she prays once again.

Mel takes a deep breath after the second blessing from Jessamy, and he smiles, "Thank you so much, yes, that's much better." With a smile, he nods to Belladonna and gets back into gear, so to speak, ready now to continue on.

With the aid of Belladona you track them back to a cave, or den. There are remains of sheep here, obviously where they have been living.

"Thank my Lady Guardian," is Jessamy's smiling answer as she pulls her blade from the ground, cleans it with a cloth in her pack, and picks up her bow, preparing to join the others as they travel. When she spots the sheep, her face falls. "It is as I feared."

You paged Belladona with 'from the signs around the cave, they have only been here a week or so, and probably is just the pair of them. mating pair getting ready to stake a claim.'

Mel sighs heavily at the sheep remains. "Not even enough left for mutton," he says dejectedly. "On the other hand, it solves the riddle of who took the sheep, so there's that."

Belladona moves forward and she shakes her head a little bit as she looks over the cave, "Seems like it was just them, probably a mated pair looking to start a pack here. It's a good thing we stopped them." She says as she takes out her claws and she flexes them as she looks into the den to see if there are any pups. There is nothing else in the den, looking like they were sort of nesting up, making the place homey, at least for them.

"Remains located," MAC-B1G advises upon reaching the cave entrance. It is ever helpful. It crouches to peer into the cave. "Enemy stronghold abandoned." It turns its faceplate and focus to its fellow taskforce member units. "Query: Enemy force is neutralized?"

Mel nods to the golem and looks relieved to find out it's just these two wolves and not a whole pack. "Then we're done here?" he asks Belladona. He'll look around to see if there're any shinies the wolves might have collected. Or is that magpies that collect shiny things? Well, he can hope.

Belladona ughs as she comes back out and she rolls herself in the snow before brushing it off, "Yes I think so."

"We are fortunate," Jessamy observes. "This could have been worse. We should head back and deliver the news."

Having found that you seem to have taken care of it, you all make your way back to the village and let them know. They give you your payment and feed you again before letting you head back.
