Alice: A young woman with long black hair.

Lothos: Human male, dark hair, regular clothing, no armor.

Taro: Large and wild looking Oruch.

Tsunetomo: An Egalrin Chord in simple grey attire

The day was promising to be a slow one until a message arrived from the Adventurer's organization that there was a client needing help, and urgently. On responding you are all conducted into a back room where sits an elderly but clearly well-off Dwarven woman. She stands to her full height, such as it is, and addresses your guide. "These are all you can reach? Well, I suppose we can't be picky what with the urgency." As the guide closes the door she turns to the group of you. "I'm Mistress Rekah, master merchant. I represent the Wards of the Invisible Path, we guard the portal to Amshere. Are you all aware of it and us?"

Taro's features screw up in concentration. "The portal to Amshere? I heard about it...but I didn't believe it. You're saying it's real?"

Lothos shrugs a bit, "Not really too familiar, just what folks say about it honestly." He looks around at the others gathered here.

Alice gives a slight nod of her head as she listens, "I have heard about it before. What sort of issues are you having?"

"I don't think so..." the egalrin answered, bending the neck a bit and having the wing folded in a slightly awkward way to fit the room height.

The woman nods. "Indeed it's real, a stable portal that many trade caravans travel through. Including mine. The Wards of the Invisible Path guard it to make sure that it doesn't disrupt the wildlife on either end among other concerns, and we take our charge very seriously. Periodically we get concerted raids from the local Troglodyte tribes on the far side, they'd love to be able to control it, and it was during one such raid that we failed in our primary charge." She looks over all of you to make sure you understand the seriousness of her words. "The Trogs drove a number of local creatures at the gate and several broke through, including one Thunderherder. That's an extremely large creature, much larger than anything native to this size, but not actually dangerous as long as you don't spook it. Unfortunately several wild Swiftclaws also came through, and, well, we're looking at disaster if they can't be captured."

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "And if anyone has Knowledge/Nature you can roll it."

Lothos nods, "I see, well that is a rather serious issue to deal with. I'll be happy to help of course."

GAME: Lothos rolls knowledge/Nature: (4)+11: 15

GAME: Alice rolls knowledge/nature: (10)+14: 24

You paged (Lothos, Alice) with 'Thunderherder: Gargantuan plant-eater, grows to 80' long and 32 tons. Can strip large areas of forest very quickly.'

You paged Alice with 'That's a Brachiosaurus.'

Alice considers that for a moment, "That isn't very good. We will need to find it quickly. Luckily, they are so large that it shouldn't be that difficult to find it."

Lothos chuckles, "Finding it won't be hard, but we have to keep it happy. Something that size goes nuts, well, it will be one heck of a mess."

"Wild swiftclaws..." Taro says. He runs a finger over the string of teeth he wears like a necklace. Many seem different - from different animals, possibly. "And if they can't be captured - then what?"

GAME: Taro rolls knowledge/nature: (2)+5: 7

"I take it that your personal is stretched thin from the duties so you need us to aid in... retreiving the herd or guarding the gate." Tsunetomo pulled together from what had been told up to now. "Most likely the former..."

GAME: Tsunetomo rolls sense motive: (15)+9: 24

<OOC> Tsunetomo says, "but I do THAT"

You paged Taro with 'You've heard legends of giant beasts in Amshere, that's it.'

You paged Tsunetomo with 'She appears to be on the up-and-up. Maybe hurrying a bit but not trying to lie or anything.'

Mistress Rekah nods in agreement. "It wouldn't be such a trouble if it wasn't for the swiftclaws. We don't know how many made it through, but they'll either attack it or something else most likely, and either result is bad. Many of our usual trackers and guards are injured or holding the portal currently, we can't spare anyone. We need you to get the creatures back, alive if possible, or kill them if not."

Taro grins eagerly. "Well, let's get too it. Which way to this portal? And where were the Swiftclaws last seen? Which way were they going?"

Alice nods in agreement, "We should head right out before they start causing too much trouble here."

"I've been taught the basics of tracking should no one else be able to do it, but we should definatly find the swiftclaws. I think the tracks for their larger friend will be quite easy to follow." This is said by Lothos.

A short time passe, then the egalrin nods, the yellow eyes peering through the room. "You seem honest and I will assist. But keep in mind, to guard the portal better next time."

The Dwarven woman frowns at the Egalrin. "Several of my friends died defending the portal today, it is only because of us the didaster is not much greater. In any case, the swiftclaws were last seen following the track of the Thunderherder and that's easy enough to follow. I suggest you start out right away if there are no more questions?"

Lothos looks over at the Elgarin and smiles, "Try not to be rude to the person paying, when you die, its part of thier money thats spent to bring you back...unless of course....your not interested in coming back."

Taro pauses to collect the giant two-handed axe he's left leaning against a wall. "I'm ready!" He puts the axe over a shoulder and then heads for the door. "Thunderherder?" he asks in a quieter voice, glancing at the other party members to see if they show any signs of knowing who or what that is?

Lothos looks over to Taro and whispers "A lizard the size of a house that eats plants. Seriously, big big house."

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Once you are all ready we can fast-forward, yes?"

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "And can I get Survival checks from anyone who might be looking at the tracks as you go along."

"If you die I hope you have your will with you so I know how you want to be buried." Tsunetomo answer to Lothos, patting the stick in his hand.

GAME: Alice rolls survival: (17)+16: 33

Lothos grins at the Elgarin, "If I die, I have arrangements to be brought back and raised, so try to just keep my body in one piece if you don't mind. Its sort of a guild thing, we all look out for each other, even if we are not fond of all of the members."

GAME: Lothos rolls survival: (4)+6: 10

GAME: Taro rolls survival: (2)+8: 10

GAME: Tsunetomo rolls survival: (8)+4: 12

Taro shoots at Lothos and Tsunetomo a twitch-eyed glare. "If either of you die it had better be AFTER we catch all these runaway Swiftclaws."

The beak of the egalrin makes a cracking sound as it closes harsh, then the young monk just follows silently, talons trailing along the quarterstaff in the hand, as if reading notches in it.

The slog through the forest is pretty typical aside from the wide track of knocked-down trees and crushed undergrowth. You'd estimate that whatever you are following must approach 20 feet wide, and the deep footprints speak to a massively heavy creature lumbering quickly. Alice spots the signs of two swiftclaws in the turned-over dirt, but after a little they leave the path of devastation. After some time you notice up in the distance a crash as another tree is uprooted and then see the great beast, much larger than an elephant, with a long neck and tail. Truly impressive.

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachiosaurus"

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Please, determine what you want to do. I'm pretty open-ended here."

Lothos holds a finger up to his lips, then whispers quietly. "Do we just try to guard it, or hunt down the swift claws? The danger is this thing honestly."

Alice points out the other tracks, "The swiftclaws went that way..." She then looks up ahead. "Though we better deal with this big thing first. It is going to cause lots of problems."

GAME: Tsunetomo rolls sense motive: (3)+9: 12

Taro moves closer to the giant creature. He has his axe resting over his shoulder, with one hand on the long handle to balance it. But he turns it slightly. "And just how do you propose that we 'deal' with it...?" he asks mildly.

Lothos shrugs, "Sing it a lullaby?"

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "From here it's hard to see,but it is eating branches off one tree so probably reasonably calm. It ha mostly stopped moving."

"We let it walk it' path for now, so we can handle the swiftclaws? It seems to like that tree. Why should we drag it away now if we can llure it home later?" the Monk answers.

The massive beast turns to look at the group of you and inspects you, the long neck swinging around. Then it appears to dismiss you and strips a large branch off a tree with one bite and starts chewing it.

Alice shakes her head slightly, "Well if we leave it until later, half the forest might be gone. Maybe we can get it to follow us though."

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Can I get Perception from everyone?"

GAME: Tsunetomo rolls perception: (16)+13: 29

Taro says, "Or...maybe we can use it as bait!" he starts speaking slowly, but it speeds up as the idea forms in his head. "Maybe the Swiftclaws will come to it."

GAME: Taro rolls perception: (6)+7: 13

GAME: Lothos rolls perception: (18)+6: 24

You paged (Tsunetomo, Lothos) with 'You thing you see rippling in the undergrowth a ways off, there is something else out here with you. Not sure what. At least human-sized.'

GAME: Alice rolls perception: (18)+16: 34

You paged Alice with 'You thing you see rippling in the undergrowth a ways off, there is something else out here with you. Not sure what. At least human-sized and two of them.'

Lothos turns to the side, whispering, "Something else is here, humanoid I think. We should check it out before something happens."

"Your Swiftclaw might be closer than you expect." Tsunetomo responds to Taro, the yellow eyes fixing a couple trees.

You paged Taro with 'What a nice day! :)'

Alice nods as she watches closely, "I can see them, something up ahead over there. At least two of them."

Lothos reacts fairly quickly, avoiding being attacked. He looks over towards the swiftclaws, and points at the one on Taro, "Fate does not favor you this day, you will be going home." He moves over near a tree laying on its side, hoping to keep from being surprised from behind. He giggles slightly as he moves, a silly grin on his face.

Taro is a little slow to react to the Swiftclaws emerging from the trees. He doesn't even see Alice get mauled, because by that time Taro himself is being bit by a second Swiftclaw. The Oruch drops the axe to one side, leaving his hands free. Then he pulls out a sap that looks comically small in his hands. He never thought he'd get a chance to use this again. But use it he does, smacking the Swiftclaw in the side of the head.

Lothos slowly stops giggling, but still grins, "Ahh, fate has such wonderful excitement for us sometimes. Now, about our big friend..." He looks over at the large dino. "I have an ability to turn the ground to swamp, perhaps I could sort of guide it? Give it only one clear path to move along?"

Taro examines the fallen reptile for a few moments, then arranges it's legs and hands so that he can get a better grip, to drag it back to where the other is. He's panting heavily by the time he reaches there. Then he goes to collect his axe. "We never asked that lady how we were supposed to get these things back once we caught them..."

Alice looks around as she considers their options. "Well we can just carry them back, but I don't think we can carry that big one back." She nods to Lothos, "That is one option, but lets see if we can just get him to follow us first."

Tsunetomo clacks the beak once he finished tying up the swiftclaw, pushing his quarterstaff undr the sling that hold the leg to carry it easyer, nodding at Taro as he hurls the other in and ties it in the same way. "It has leg as tall as tree trunks and a neck which might be long enough to breath in a deep lake... you think it will work? If you place a mountain in the path of a bird, it flies over it."

Lothos shrugs "Most animals choose the path of least resistance, the bird doesnt fly over the mountain if there is a valley right next to it. As far as leading it.....usuallly you drag bait....I'm not sure we can drag a tree that this thing would fire appetizing."

<OOC> Alice says, "I will try to do wild empthay on the big thing to make it friendly and maybe follow us"

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Hmm, technically it doesn't much like either of you now, you failed by 5+."

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Which moves it up to Unfriendly."

Alice lifts her hands up and waves them back and forth as she tries to get it's attention.

Taro moves over to the big creature and cups his hands around his mouth. "Follow us!" he insists. "Come on, follow! GRAH!" the last is exclaimed when the creature doesn't seem to respond.

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Not Hostile... yet."

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "You can try again at DC 20 if you like...... :)"

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Well, you didn't make it worse."

Lothos shakes his head, "Ok, stop, stop.."

Lothos says, "Someone run back to town, the rest of us follow this thing. Tell them we have contained the swiftclaws, that was our primary job. They should have someone who can handle this beast."

The giant beast looks at the small annoying creatures and whuffles in annoyance, then turns and starts to move off through the forest, massacring a small grove of trees.

Lothos tries his swamp idea, seeing if the creature at least slightly turns aside. He can create 4 blocks of 10x10 foot swamp, so its not huge, but it is inconvienent.

Taro turns his head to peer at the Swiftclaws, then at the big lizard again. "I wonder if it knows the scent of it's enemies? Those that it knows would do it harm?" He puts an ever so slight emphasis on the 'it knows' part. "Maybe if it thought there was danger ahead, that would turn it to the path we want."

Well, its not perfect, but it does slow it down....so Lothos keeps it up, new patches of swamp, now a bit scattered, to cover more area, you know, like a chessboard, black squares swamp, white ok. He just wants it to slow down for now. "Someone go get help, I'll keep it slowed down....we arent trained enough for this aparently!"

"What does such a thing eat at all? Any tree or only specifics?" the egalrin ponders as he shoulders the taff carrying both swiftclaws, one left, one right.

Lothos keeps moving with the beast, using his swamp to slow it to a crawl...hopefully. "Look, its going to stop and eat....one of you run back to town and get the people that hired us. They likely have a plan they just didnt tell us. Our job was just to keep it from stampeding due to swift claws. Hells, they could be on the way now!!!"

Alice looks around at the group, "Well we can try giving it a little poke to force it back the way it came. Hopefully it takes the quickest escape path, which is the path it made getting here."

Tsunetomo shake the head slowly on Alice's tell, but he wasn't argue and moved with the swiftclaw-packages dangling from the quarterstaff like buhmeat. "Do these have a good taste after all?"

Lothos blinks, and sighs, just giving up on the swamp. "You know, I blame all of you if this goes bad, I tried to tell you no. We don't want it scared or hostile, but...." he shrugs "Fate does what fate does."

<OOC> Tsunetomo says, "ouch, heavy load... uhm... someone pick the other side?"

<OOC> Alice says, "I cast ant haul on him, so he can carry 3 times as much."

Taro stares at Lothos. "When did you tell us that?!"

Lothos says, "Just a little while ago!!"

Lothos says, "I said our job was just to keep it from stampeding....THIS is likely to stampede it!"

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "It'll be awkward but you can carry them with Ant Haul."

Taro grimaces and looks away from Lothos, but douesn't say anything.

Alice chants softly and then reaches out to touch Tsunetomo so that he gains the power of the ant, letting him carry three times as much and normal. "Okay, everyone get out of the way." She then stretches her arms out and feathers spread over her body as she becomes an eagle and takes off into the air. She circles around high above the creature and begins to chant another spell to summon a flaming sphere next to the creature, in front of it's path so it heads back the direction it came.

GAME: Alice casts Ant Haul. Caster Level: 5 DC: 17

GAME: Alice casts Flaming Sphere. Caster Level: 5 DC: 18

At the sight of a ball of flame the gargantuan creature turns and starts galloping. It's not hard to herd it back onto the path it came along, but after a little while it slows and stops, the fire having run its course. You've gained some ground at leastand it is now going the right direction. If you can get it moving again.

Lothos sighs, "Thank goodness that spell only lasts less than a minute..."

Tsunetomo chuffs as he hauls the two beast close to the rim of the cleared path, the green bodies bruhing against some scrubbs as he makes the way on foot - slowly towards the origin of the path the gargantum animal made.

Lothos frowns, "I'm not sure this is going to get us very far at this rate." He walks along in the wake of destruction from the creature, well behind it.

Alice makes another sphere and chases it along it's path and when that fire goes out she creatures another one and continues it along.

After the jogging the creature has just done it's apparently time for another snack. A small tree starts vanishing into that hungry mouth.

GAME: Alice casts Call Lightning. Caster Level: 5 DC: 19

GAME: Alice casts Call Lightning. Caster Level: 5 DC: 19

Alice is making some progress now, as she calls forth lightning and strikes a large bolt down from the sky to hit behind it. Then another, and another, and another. For a moment the sky seems to clear but then she chants and the air fills with eletricity and then more zaps rain down. Zap, Zap.

The massive creature appears to be getting cranky. It's too cold and dry here, all the leaves taste funny, and fire and lightning keep appearing behind it. Regardless, it keeps browsing from the treetops it passes and then stops at a particularly fine fruit tree.

The human of the group follows along, sighing. "This is a really weird way to do this....I hope they don't get mad we constnatly burned the ass of this creature."

GAME: Alice casts Burning Hands. Caster Level: 0 DC: -95

Tsunetomo hurls swiftclaw and Swiftclawette, because one of them must obviously be a female that lead the good boy astray.

The creature takes a few steps on seeing a spray of flames behind it but not much more. It appears that it's getting tired of runing away from fire and something more lasting might be needed.

Tsunetomo sighs and eyes the fruittree the beat eyed "Can you cut and haul that tree?" he asks the Oroch

The great beast looks round the forest and gives a loud honking noise which echoes among the trees. There is no answer.

Lothos sighs, "Well closer I suppose....anyone else have a new idea? I'm not sure how to get this thing to move, especially in a forest full of food."

Taro hefts his axe. "No tree can withstand my might!" He seems to realize how ridiculous that is. But he's already made the boast.

GAME: Tsunetomo rolls sense motive: (9)+9: 18

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "It's lonely. It's a herd animal."

"It calls it's Mate... Or children... Can someone honk and don't sound like a bird?" the egalrin answers. "Otherwise we have to try the tree-on-a-leash.

Lothos shakes his head, "I'm not dragging a tree, I'm not built for it." He is rather scrawny. "Best I can do is make things light up, I do not know any spells that would work here."

Alice circles around in the air as she soars about the creature and looks it over, waiting to see if the others come up with a plan before she has to resort to plan B.

Taro listens to the sound. His expression sours, and he shouts back at the beast, mockingly.

GAME: Taro rolls bluff: (7)+1: 8

The great creature looks around quizzically, seemingly confused by the sound of Taro. It really didn't sound much like it though.

GAME: Lothos rolls bluff: (17)+3: 20

Tsunetomo eyes the human. "You can try that too?" he asks as he hauls the Swiftclawette and Swiftclawette - both must be females that run astray how heavy they are.

A heavy sigh, and then Lothos shrugs and tries to do what he thinks the mating call would sound like, its not like he did much more than read books about these animals. Who runs into a dino outside Amshere!

Perhaps though, the human is just damned lucky, cause the beast starts moving towards him. He yelps a bit and starts rushing ahead, stopping to make noises again....is it a mating call, is it the sound of a dying or young.....Lothos has no real idea, its just making the thing move, thats all.

The massive beast follows the sound further along the path. After a bit it raises its head and sniffs the air. You are quite close to the portal now and apparently it can smell the jungles of home. It disregards the human now and bulls forward, guards jumping out of the way, and plunges back into the portal, vanishing completely.

"Whatever he's telling it, it must be really interesting. Probably he is asking it out for dinner or he compliments about her scale color..." Tsunetomo crackles as he hurls the two runaways...

The human bends over after leaping out of the way, gasping for breath. "I....did....not....like..that." He coughs a bit, then stands up straight, holding his side. "Uhhh, I need to remember to bring a horse..."

Mistress Rekah comes over to you after a couple of minutes and the two swiftclaws are taken off your hands with thanks. "We've mostly repelled the attacks, but a Thunderherder bursting out of the portal ended the fighting on the other side completely. I'll be commending all of you to the Yggdrasil Union, it appears you didn't hurt the big one at all! Well done."

Lothos will refrain from talking about the lightning strikes on its ass....guild membership and all that.

Alice flies back down and as she lands on the ground her shape shifts back to her human form. "Over all that wasn't too bad. It was a little difficult to get him moving but in the end it all worked out."

Tsunetomo just crackes and stretches the neck and wings "The swiftclaws do look rather tasty now though... Almost like Gecko on a stick..."

The Dwarven Ward frowns again at the Egalrin. "Swiftclaws, while tasty, aren't on the menu for today. We'll be releasing on the other side of the portal as planned. If you want to try eating one you'll have to go on a hunting trip in Am'shere yourself."

Tsunetomo chitters with ruffling neck feathers as he listens "And they say Dwarves have no humor..."
