Demons What pt 1

IT IS A NORMDAL DAY IN ALEXANDRIA.

HOORAY.

Wait, no. There's no such thing as a normal day in Alexandria. It's, like, worse than Blar in some ways. The lot of you had been summoned to the Guild of Explorers building for contracting and then told that your mission, should you choose to accept it, was to hop on the airship heading to the Desolation.

To the lands that border the dark, demon infested realm known as Skald.

Skald, where the great Daemon Wars that burned the world started. Skald, the land said to be in thrall to, as of these days, the malignant sorcerer known as Asumit the Binder.

Apparently, a group of demons has seized a magical item of some import. You, and the military squad about this airship, are to go and stop them from delivering it back to Asumit.

Celeste is here, of course. Because where else would the half-orc gladiatrix be? For her, life is generally about fighting, doing the things that make her ready for fighting (like eating or sleeping), or really just being bored. Despite the grim set to her jaw and the fierce glower she maintains about herself, there's a palpable air of happiness about her, somehow; she's never fought demons before. This is going to be a good day.

"Whot dis den?" Baz intones. "We 'ave got ta go and get somfin som fink stole away?" He brushes a caloused thumb along one of his steel capped tusks. "I'm nawt sure dis be the work for Kor. Whut glorious battle and proof of strength is getting back some toy?" He snorts and then looks down at his belt, his other hand rattling a pouch there. "D'hou, ave ta say me pockets get'in a bit light o'late. Maybe Kor won't mind if I get some pig 'n beah money."

Malorn is sitting on the ground with his legs crossed in a meditative pose. He has his hood draw over his head and pulled down low. His breathing is slow and regular as he prepares himself for the coming conflict.

Lucy boards the airship with a determined expression. She's dressed for travelling, complete with a small pack conisisting of bedroll and a few other odds and ends. The telltale clunk of a pan sounds once in a while. In one hand Lucy holds a short spear which she taps against the deck like a walking stick, the other her sheathed rapier which she holds balanced against a shoulder rather than worn around her waist as normal.

"Come on, Fi. We're gonna miss the airship." Felicia calls behind her as she makes her own way into the Airship. In her case, she's also carrying a bedroll, a few other odd and ends, as well as a walking staff.

Wilma doesn't recognize any of those she was called to meet with - but then, she'd only returned to the city after a long absence - absences that seem to be getting longer and longer. However, she accepts the mission easily enough, and once on board, finds a place to get comfortable with the practice of someone who's travelled to battle before. "Well, generally speakin', demons don't like to be lettin' go of their toys so easy, so bashin' in those heads should be a test of somethin'," she grunts, using a whetstone along the edge of a very long sword.

There's a bit of a run and Serraphine catchs up with Felicia as she jogs in the fullplate, a bit of a grumble. Thankfully, they made the airship, even if it would be a bit of a haul before they arrived.

"Why are we going on this, Felicia? I thought we had to handle business in Alexandria?"

Felicia says, "This counts Fi. If we don't do it, it impacts Alexandria." She says as she sets her pack down. "I made sure I brought your pack too." She says setting a second pack down."

Today's trophy is an: Owlbear skull, with dead vegitation growing all over it. Proudly displayed on the spike of Baz's helmet. The spike itself thrust through an eye hole on the old skull. The flag fluttering over the top as he turns his head or moves. Looking over the edge of the ship. "Dis is true." Baz turns his tusk filled grin towards Wilma. "Dat is true. Asides looks like I'm already back on my way to Skald. Land 'o Shite. Shite people, beer, and even trees. Gonna kill mo' demons." With a loud -whump- the heavily armored and armored Ork flops down on the deck and begins to tend to his own equipment. Viciously bladed claws, a massive curved and serrated sword and other implements that probaly are used loudly at night on himself if he doesn't get enough fiber. He pulls out a dagger and begins digging a thorn out of his flesh. "Need ta make room for the fresh trophies, hah!"

Dressed in their naval uniforms, the crew of the Airship, the Glorious Rendition, is busily running around and doing their business. Time passes and, well... it's rpetty boring in here! You know you're in the Desoaltion now, though, by the fact that the sky has some pretty interesting and unnatural colors to it and the landscape below looks more like a 'hellscape' than a 'landscape'.

You must be nearing Skald.

An older woman, perhaps forty years of age, has approached your little gathering.

"We're going to engage the demonic caravan. From there, we'lll be sending you down to snatch the object. My orders describe it as 'an otherworld crystalline rod with an array of swirling colors at the tip'. ASsure that you either get it or Asumit /doesn't/ get it."

Felicia says, "So....we get it or deny it to Asumit. Got it." She then looks to Serraphine. "You got that, right?""

Lucy mouths the words 'demonic caravan', eyes wide as saucers. She glances at the other party members out of the corner of her eye. "You can count on us," she tries to project surety and responsibility in her voice. But it might be more effective if her voice wasn't as high-pitched and shrill as that of a teenage girl's.

Malorn opens his eyes as the older woman approaches and he gets up slowly. He nods his head, "I understand. Are we getting down by ropes or using feather fall rings?"

Serraphine looks to Felicia, then back to those who are giving the briefing. "Always." She says in a flat voice.

Wilma huhs, "Makes sense enough; gonna have any kinda backlash we need to be knowin' about?" she asks, getting to her feet and putting away stone and sword. "Not that'll stop it, just wantin' to know if duckin' will work."

"Break shiney rod, or steal it." Baz repeats as well, then motions with his right hand. "Get in closer so I's can drop down on someone and crush'em good. Nice start ta the festi-fun. See what kind of bag of puke I can spray all ovah myself, wot?" He laughs a deep booming tone. "So ows we get out of here? This ship going to stay by or we gotta stomp back out of shite-land back home?"

Felicia blows a bit of air out of her nose. "hmm..."

"Take it or smash it," Celeste observes, "Break or kill everyone and everything that stands in our way. Ideally, leave no survivors. Feast upon the dead and take trophies from their corpses. Got it." Did she mean that... literally? One never can be entirely certain with Celeste; right now, she seems to have plucked a rat that was scurrying boldly across the deck and is holding the creature wriggling in hand. Wriggling, that is, until she bites its head clean off, which she shows. Loudly. "Mmm," she rumbles. "Crunchy."

Lucy covers the top of her face with a hand. She turns the motion into rubbing her forehead, then moves over to the railing to look over at the ground below. She buckles her swordbelt around her waist and picks up her spear from where it was leaned against the railing.

"You'll ahve feather tokens! They'll kick in when you're just far enough above the ground that you won't splatter on the demons! While that might be an intereting form of attack I suspect they might secretly enjoy it!"

She yells as she leads you up onto the deck.

Immediately, the smell of sulfure hits your nostrils and the big guns on the Glorious Rendition is opening fire on a variety of flying creatures that are swirling in the sky above you. Odd, vulture like daemons, to be sure.

"We've got the skies under control," and explosions on the ground, "and we're taking care of some of the dmeons on the ground for you! NOW JUMP!"

She means it. Jump over the side. Each of you has been given a single feather.

It is apparently magic.

"AND DON'T DROP THE FEATHERS!"

“YOIKTH! AND AWAY!" Felicia yells as she jumps off the airship....

Malorn takes the feather and he nods his thanks. "Thank you." He says before he runs and leaps off the edge of the ship down into the battle. He looks around to spot the closest demon and he tries to aim for it.

Lucy takes a deep breath, whispers something and then leaps off of the airship, feather clutched tightly in hand.

Celeste has been quietly devouring her recently captured rat, heedless to the blood tricking down her chin. As the moment to disembark approaches she stuffs the hindquarters in her mouth, slurping up the tail like it were a noodle before accepting her feather and approaching the side of the ship. "When we fight," she shouts to those others who will be jumping, "If you're not wearing metal, stay behind those of us who are." She turns her head and spits beside her, before she makes her leap off the side, clutching tightly to her feather.

There's no pause, Baz takes his feather and leaps over the side. "WAAAAGGH!" Roars the Ork as he plumets in magical slowness. Trying to aim himself at something squishy on the ground. Spreading his arms he aims his feet at an excellent target and intones a prayer to his God: Kor. "Great Kor, it's time ta crush and kill again! Give me the size ta smash and bash!" As he feels the energy of the spell roll through himself and his flesh and equipment growing and growing an incredible rate. He also lets go of the feather and with a sudden acceleration the now massive Ork sails through the sky directly down upon his enemy. "AVE YE GOT A BAD DAY YET? AHAHAA!!!!"

Serraphine kneels, looking up toward the skies and says a short prayer. "Serriel, may your guidance take my blade. May your wisdom guide my actions. I am your lance in this den of evil, your herald in this land of demons." She stands, kisses the back of her gauntlet which holds a symbol of Serriel, clacks it to her chest and literally steps right off the edge of the airship to dive down at the horrors that may lay below.

"... why do I do this shit again?" the dwarf asks... no one in particular - even as she's jumping over board. "Shiiiiiiiiiit," however, is loudly shared with everyone.

Down below you can see... a lot of small shapes, actually. Their numbers are getting thinned out by the CANNON FIRE that's erupting all around you in thick clouds of black smoke. It's actually protecting you from being spotted too early.

About forty feet above the ground, from the central point of the convoy of /hgorribly monstrous fiends/, of crawling chaos terrors and squallid beings from the depths of the pits, you begin to slow down in your descent.

They knew right where to put you so that the staff would be ion plain view. There, a six armed scaled mosntrous being with multiple swords, appears to be holding the rod over his shoulder, hurrying forward with the rest of his convoy. The demonic host does not look thoroughly pleased to see you. In fact, they're definitely enraged.

"WAAAAAAAAGH!" Roars Baz as he grows from Ork to Ogre sized. The feather fluttering away from his grip as he aims himself at the largest target, whom just happens to have the rod they're searching for. -THOOM- The massive armored Ogre-k plows into the demon. "FOR KOR! GET UP YA GIT AND LET ME SEE WHERE I CAN SHOVE THAT ROD!" Raising his hands over his head the Ogre-K brings his great curved blade, having grown to giant sized with him. Crashing down across the creature's body. The serrated blade cutting deep.

Wilma doesn't bother trying to aim for max damage - and in doing so, ends up aiming for max failure. While aiming for one of the surrounding villians, the dwarf gives a mighty cry. A mighty cry that ends in an unfortunate landing. For her.

Serraphine falls from the sky like an angel of Serriel. Headfirst she goes with her eyes closed for the first half of it. She opens them back up, her hair whipping passed her head as she goes, pulling the swath of it straight back behind her. She angles herself, trying to land on the one in front of the one holding the scepter, but it was a bad angle. She called off the maneuver at the last moment, rotating over to be feet first, and fell instead to land in front of that lead one. She landed crouched, with one hand on her sword and eyes on the one in front of her.

"You will die." She says with a conviction as she stood, drawing the sword out with one hand, only to have another join it mid-swing. The cut rises, catching the demon in the lower part of the chest and cleaving him in two. A flick of her sword to the side to clear away the demon blood.

Immediatelly, several of the fat, pale, squallid and naked demons turn and lunge at Baz, Serraphine and WIlma. T hey're being dog-piled, more or less, by them.

Some of them even find their way through their armor, with Baz and Serraphine both taking nasty looking scratch wounds.

Celeste aims herself for one of the demons upon landing; not for the big one, as would ordinarily have been her choice, since Baz is currently occupying it. Instead she opts for one of the smaller ones; a worthy foe on its own, no doubt. "RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!" she screams on ehr way down, her eyes ablaze with howling rage, as she lands... not on it, not even a little bit. Still, that turns out to be close enough as she swings her sword, never ending her battle-yell, and plunging the blade deep into the foe.

GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE! You have descended from the sky into a hode of demons! Foul smelling, mouthless creatures lunge at you, striking at Cleeste, Malorn, though only the heaviuly armored forms of Wilma and Serraphine are bloodied by them.

The six armed, reptilian, red scalked creature draws multiple daggers, striking at Baz repeatedly and leaving the oruch badly bloodied in the process. It twirls the staff in its hand, hissing.

There is a reason Wilma's armor is dented and beat to hell and back - that is because she depends on it to block all the hits she doesn't avoid. Also, eventually, blood stains. Much like the blood currently leaking from shallow rents and scratches. That isn't her focus though. Her focus is the demons in front of her, and the greatsword held in her hands. The ground is her favored battleground, however, and even as a weak wash of healing speeds some healing, she's moved into position, and sent the greatsword flying. Flying through the air, and into the demons, all she can get into reach of, before the blade strikes poorly, and leaves no damage behind, "What a piss poor buncha devils these be! Barely enough to get the blood pumpin'!" she taunts, perhaps to bring attention on herself instead of Ba.... nah.

Serraphine takes her step in toward the demon and lets out a growl as she points the longer sword toward it, "By Serriel's guidance, I will fight you!" Serraphine takes a step to the side in order to flank this six armed demon thing with Baz, the Arvek keeping herself in control as she drops herself into a low guard, a bit of a defensive stand with the creature as she calls out, "You, creature from the abyss." And she switches to Infernal then, calling out to it in what she hopes is a tongue it knows, "You are nothing, you will die by Serriel's might. Face me if you want a challenge!" And she switches to a high guard before chopping down with the sword in a deft stroke that cuts deep.

Malorn continues to use panther style as he moves away from one demon to go after another. He gets hit as he moves and then he retaliates with punch. The next two strikes miss as he gets to far away. He goes to flying kick the next demon. It misses, but he hits iwth his follow up kick and he swings around for a punch only to miss with it.

Moving her way through the demons, Felicia puts a hand on Baz and tries to heal his wound. But her blessing fade before too much damage can be healed.

"THIS IS TAKING TOO LONG!!" Celeste snarls, before the gladiatrix turns and shoulders her way past a couple of demons in order to get at the big one with the big crystal rod. That one, apparently, is the one that really matters, and the half-orc aims to get it dealt with. Thankfully, this time, she even manages to get her sword to bite, pulling it back bloody! Definitely a tangible improvement. Celeste edges closer to her happy place.

This time, her sword bites; and oh boy, does it bite, as she plunges the blade deep into the creature's chest, cleaving a beating heart in two. The half-orc growls menacingly, pulling hard on her sword and using it like a handle to force the creature to its knees; her hand claps on the top of its head and she pulls the blade free, driving it into the neck, sawing it back and forth until she gets right through it. A fine trophy indeed.

Indeed.

It coillapses to the ground and the rod hits the earth as well. Immediatle,y the smaller demons are scrambling towrads it to grab it, but thankfully, one of you is closer.
