Charn Embassy Part 2

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Thanks to it being winter, the nights are long and you've only really just started. You dug around, got information, Shym'r even found out that there's a drug addict at the embassy (as well as where to get some of the drug if she wanted) and Reva uncovered it as being Tabatha - the lady who works in the North West office of Shipping & Receiving.

Thanks to Kaelyn you have a map of the building, and there was even some uncovering that the guards are on 4-hour rotations. This is just the information you've dug up trying to get in - now it's time to actually do the deed.

The obvious way might be the main entrance to the east - right through the front doors of the Embassy. There's also where Tabatha works to the North West - possibly easier but you have to get passed her. Of course any of this might be made easier with distractions, and you now have enough people that you can actually do two things at once - in fact you probably are going to have to if you plan to get through this without the Charnese knowing what happened.

Reva will get prepared to bust the druggie clerk person. That just means standing by right now. So she'll help out the others as much as she can.

Chay puts the kit away, once the work is done. "Ssa, you look convincing," he is saying. The sith-makar stows the kit in a hovel, of sorts, then places some bricks and muck over it where they might come back to get it later on. He looks to the others, then. "This iss as thiss one undersstands it. Pleasse correct thiss one if he iss wrong. Firsst, I am to deliver ssome drugss to our new friend. Ssecond, at the next opportunity, our invissibile and sstealthy friendss enter the builting. Third, after ten or sso minutess, I approach the building, and am 'accossted' by our other friendss. Having been invised... Whysper waits quietly for her part to kick in...

Shym'r is staying back with Whysper for the time being...

Chay has a bone in his nose. He also has a grass skirt. "Perhapss I am overdoing it," he says beneath his breath as he waits to meet Tabitha, their known addict. He scratches at his scales as he waits, then glances at his friends in the shadows, the ones ascribed to the distraction. The others he has to assume, have already moved on and into the building, or are close. He is ...he wants to be nervous. Still, in some way it feels good to strike back at the Charneth.

His kin is going to kill him.

Taleth has somehow managed to get caught up in this plot. She's disguised. Somehow the party got her out of all her furs to make her play the part of some authority. Her hair is tied back to give the additional air of superiority. Letting others take the lead here, she's planning to fill a support role while the craftier folk find the prize.

Whysper is invised, but she takes a glance around the place as she is about to make for the entrance. Hoping everyone remembers their timing... (we planned timing, sure we did), so everything goes off without a hitch. Her eyes narrow upwards, taking much of the building and peoples in. Knowing no one can see her.. not her party, not anyone else, she moves slowly towards the doors, so she can get into position.

Shym'r is right behind Whysper....with a hand on her shoulder, at least for now. SO Whysper knows that Shym'r is with her, at least until they get inside....

Kore is crouching. It's a very effective crouch because she is very small. She waits patiently for her allies to survey the location while she stands utterly still. A bird mistakes her for a statue. As it happens she is allergic to their feathers but she manages to suppress the urge to sneeze. For now.

GAME: ChayNotChay rolls diplomacy: (9)+7: 16

Chay slips inside via help from Tabatha, though it's only for a moment. He has to deliver the drugs and then get caught, after all, on his way out. "Ssa, ssa," he says. He nods, softskin-style to the addict. Before she can say a word, he lifts the drug from his coat sleeve, holding it out just to focus her attention on him, and not his face. He says not a word more then, just glances towards the hall, or wherever the guards might be. Let's hurry, that states. He knows his allies are on the watch, and are well-prepared to move. Hunter, let this work!

"Wait... did someone see you come in? Please tell me you paid off the guys upstairs before you came in?" She looks around, and then toward Chay, her eyebrows shooting upward. "A Sith in here? With Drugs? In a Grass Skirt? I mean... it's so cliche! Oh gods. Please just tell me you paid off the ones upstairs." And she starts pulling out gold quickly.

The sith-makar taps the side of his head, near his eyes, then shakes his head with confidence. Of course he wasn't seen. Of course not! He holds out his claws for the coin--which he'll take, and quickly.

She wants him out of here, right?

GAME: Whysper rolls perception: (4)+10: 14

The lady practically throws the two gold toward the Ebon Syndicate disguised Chay as she scrambles her hand after the drug, "Yeeesssss!"

Taleth glances to Reva and then pivots her gaze upwards towards the stars - as if attempting to tell how much time has passed. "I believe it is time for that distraction, don't you?" Tucking her hands in her pockets, she begins to head down infront of the building towards the parked cart; stopping to only pick a torch off the wall and dropping it into the back of the wagon. She continues to walk by whistling.

Whysper's invisible self slowly moves towards the door they need to get into. Her slender and senstive fingers feeling along the door frame for any traps that might be laid. Who knows how paranoid they may be... hoping with Shym'r with his hand on her shoulder, he can guess what she is doing.

GAME: Taleth rolls dex: (15)+3: 18

Chay nods, and slips out, with the gold. He doesn't waste his time...he pauses long enough to make sure the guards aren't in sight, and then goes. Goes, as quickly and as well as he can. He'd bribe the guards, but you know--his friends are going to catch him. Better they have witnesses, you know?

Reva eyes Chay making his exit, and looks confused at Taleth's sudden disappearance because she thought they were going to bust him as he left the embassy from that back door. Now they'll have to get her to open in again. When Taleth gets back from starting the fire. She'll grab Chay by the arm and drag him out of sight for the moment and stand by.

GAME: Shym'r rolls perception: (3)+10: 13

"Aa--" Chay grunts as he's yanked aside by Reva. It doesn't take too long to register that plans seem to have changed. Mid-plan. This isn't good. "Ssa, ssa?" he asks, low-voiced. "Iss everything alright?" His tail moves, flicks at its end nervously, and he tries to contain it.

"Where iss Taleth?" the reptilian asks, worriedly. "Did ssomeone get arressted? One learned, the guardss upsstairs are the oness to bribe. Our addict apparently doess thiss regularly. ...you may can claim they sshould be witnesses to the crime," he says. He twists around to try to see. Reva of course, has him pulled out of sight.

As the torch is dropped in... no one seems to notice. Seriously, not a single person looks toward Taleth. Seems she's got herself a little burdgeoning pyromaniac streak in her...! Or maybe just a criminal mind? EITHER WAY! There's a little smoldering, and right about the time she gets back to Chay and Reva... WHOOSH! The cart catches.

In the distance you hear, "...MY CABBAGES!"

Reva says to Chay, "She went off to start the distraction. But I think we need to go now?" She shrugs, and ... well, Chay's probably the one person in this group she can't frogmarch around, but she's got a solid grip on his arm and she'll head for that door back to the druggie, to do the fake bust.

Taleth circles back around to return to Reva and Chay - though there happens to be a distant glow behind her that is not a sunset. Emerald eyes blink innocently at the two whilst fixing her pony tail, "Ready to extend the long arm of the law?" This is fun. "Nobody like a cabbage fire."

Chay looks to Reva. His brow furrows. "Ssa, ssa. Perhapss sshe will be back ssoo--ahh, there sshe is. We can ssay that the guardss upsstairss sshould come down to add witness? It may get ssome heat off our friendss," he asks. He lets his arm be taken behind him. He'll start swearing and snarling as soon as he's marched out! "...there iss jusst the matter of getting me out of thiss," he says underneath his breath. He looks over. "I will probably run."

Reva makes a face at cabbage fires and nods to Taleth, then leads Chay up to the door, agreeing, "If guards show up, I'll tell them to go fight the fire, or guard the firefighters." She pulls it open marches in, and says, "Don't move. Secret Police!" Glaring at the clerk, she says, "You're busted. And it looks like we've got you for dereliction of duty on top of the drugs." She glowers. "You were right," she says to Taleth, not explaining the remark.

GAME: Reva rolls intimidate: (14)+11: 25

Chay bares his teeth, hissing at Reva and Taleth. He jerks his arm, as though he'd get away. "It wass a fair deal!" he snarls, loud enough to be heard. "NOW LET ME GO!" he shouts. It takes everything in him. Everything. To make that sort of noise outside the Charneth Embassy.

GAME: Kore rolls stealth: (15)+11: 26

As soon as people come out, the door manages to nudge open again. With an invisible elf making her way through. Keeping back from the door as well, Shym'r uses a spell to hold the door open for the other two as she moves her way down the hall....only letting go once she's through the far door, which she also opens with a spell....

The three shuffle into the room and the guards up top seem to be distracted by a sudden cabbage cart fire - a good thing two since no one really spotted them prior in their shadowy windows. Tabatha stares as the people come in side and then starts opening her mouth and closing it over and over, "Wait, but... what?! You have got to be kidding me! I didn't.. I WOULD NEVER WORK WITH A SITH! They're-they're barely better than animals! Slaves! I wouldn't dream of... and with a grass skirt! I mean - c'mon! He looks half way to a cabanna boy or something with those rippling muscles and... and... how do you do that." She stares at Chay's chest.

"They're like really rippling. Like the ocean. A vast sea of rust-orange ocean." Tabatha stares.

Kore can't see her companions so she doesn't try. instead the elf waits for a few beats and watches the door. When it seem sto open of its own accord she nods once, then waits a few beats before following herself. Emerging into the hall on the far side she starts quietly across the room, keepng close to a wall in case someone doeshappen by. She is soon through the next door in close pursuit of her allies. It helps when one knows where they intend to be.

Whysper moves also into the building, slipping in right as doors are opening, looking for the records room, following the planned examination of the rooms within. There is a grin that flashes across her face, as she smells smoke from outside, but as no one can see her.. They all follow their prescribed routes, so no one bumps into the other.

Flicker. The magic fades, the 'witch doctor' outfit fades to show an Ebon Syndicate symbol etched on more operative-style clothing. Chay hisses, "It wass a fair trade! You wanted drugss, we provide, vetch!" he snaps. But of course, he's caught and confined, isn't he? Reva and Taleth, the 'Charneth Operatives' hold him in a death grip!

"We got it on good word that you're drugging in the office. So you're tellin' me that if we search this office we're not going to find any contraband?" As for the talk of the Sith Muscle, Taleth furrows her brows and looks between Chay and Tabatha with a mix of disgust, shock and interest. Kinky.

As the other team moves into the room they guessed they find... it looks like a clerical room of some sort, the lamps off and much of it hard to see - or would be except you all have the ability to see in the low light. It doesn't look like a records room - but you might be able to find what you want if you spend some time searching through. This would be where you would find the latest communications (in coming and out going).

Reva growls, "Shut it, Sith." But she lets him go to put a hand on our culprit's shoulder. That'll keep her in her seat short of a major struggle, which in turn will give her and Taleth, standing, a psychological advantage. "But you," she says to our Charnese clerk, "Are going down. Depending on whether the rest of your mess is in order will be the difference between prison or a short smoke in the sun." A metaphor for execution, though that might not be the right Charnese idiom. "Shut up your protests," she tells Tabatha. "We've already wrung a confession out of this filth already. And he implicated you, so your confession really isn't necessary, though we'll beat it out of you later." She nods to what Tabatha says, though she suggests, "I think she's taken it already. Not to worry," she says, barking a laugh at the woman's stoned comments. When the guards get back, she'll bark at them to get with the firefighting. This isn't so different than being warmande back home, organizing things as seg saw proper and chivvying people to get them doing what she wanted. A little more brusque in this case, but that's Charn for you.

Chay hisses as Reva snarls at him. He looks worried, then. That? That doesn't take a lot of acting, given where they are. He begins to shake, to look around furtively. Shaking, shaking. He has a hunter's build, and it tightens, whipcord, with terror. The Ebon Syndicate's mark, drawn onto his scales stands out starkly, there in the sun. No acting required. It's everything to this point that's required otherwise.

Tabatha snaps her eyes up and looks at Taleth, a little wobble on her feet as she looks about, her eyes widening and then not for a moment as she clears her throat. "I, uh, no! You won't find anything-" And then a stare at his chest before he drops it and the witch doctor turns into an Ebon Syndicate. She pouts.

"Wait what?" She looks up at Reva, stunned at seeing this person who's not got a hand on her shoulder.

Two guards come barreling down the hallways, "What's this all about? Hey! Who let the slave in? Oh... Come on, they Syndicate just takes /anyone/ these days." They slow up, having apparently not seen the door open and close or Shym'r hiding outside of it. And now they're slowly walking up on Chay (The Ebon Syndicate drug dealer), Reva, and Taleth. A long drawn out sigh as one looks to Tabatha and the other two look at the very official looking Charnese. A pause and the one looking over Reva and Taleth narrows his eyes.

Kore goes through a more standard soort of searching process. A dimunituve dark-skinned elf pulling open drawersand boxes, rifling through papers. She checks behind cabinets and under desks, peeling back rugs and otherwise is sure to make as much of a careful nuisance of herself as she is able the whole while she is investigating the room.

Shym'r is staying out in the hallway, but across the hallway from the door. Why? She's not going to hit the door with her fist...no. She'll use a spell to do that....

Reva glares at the guards and says, "We've got things under control here, you fools. Get out there and help get that fire out before this whole place burns down, or you two will join this one on the gallows. ... Well, move!" she snarls at them.

Chay looks at the guards. Looks at them, realizing--Then, the Syndicate suddenly elbows Reva and makes a run for it. He tries to make run for it--jerking around and heading full-tilt back into the city, straight into the crowds if he can. He knows he'll probably take an arrow to the knee, but he really, truly doesn't want that guard paying too much attention. And arrow is such a damn small price to pay.

As Kore and Whysper start digging through the files they seem to just come up empty. The search is fast, trying to leave extra time in case they need to go through different rooms. Whysper begins to go through the papers one at a time, a quick skim and then moving onto the next. It's fruitless unfortunately, the search for her coming up empty.

Kore yanks open cabinets, checking through the more obscure places, and it's during one of those checks through the drawers in a desk that's set toward the back that a heading catches her eye.

SHIP REPORTED MISSING!

A couple weeks back a Charnese Navy ship XXXXXXXXXX was captured. Send word if seen.

Ship Spotted, Alexandria.

The date lines up right to be the Revenant, but the name of the ship is blacked out. Good evidence, but not enough to prove it.

Kore snatches up the document in question and holds it up for the other person in the room to see. She takes a deep breath and then quietly makes her way tio the door, sliding it open. There's still more time to continue their search. she indicates the hall to the north as she'd intended,, and prepares to inobtrusively make her way in that direction. While this happens the documens will be tucked into a pouch on the elf's belt. No reason to risk losing them. Presumably she'll pick up her allies as she travels.

"Get him!" The disguised Druid calls out after Chay makes a run for it. She then looks between Reva and Tabatha before moving to begin searching the office, "Mind her, will you?" She asks Reva, "I heard that the stolen ship... Revenant, was it? Is being used to smuggle this drug in. I wonder... Do you have something to do with that, hm?" Taleth asks of Tabatha.

As Chay turns and starts running, the one who was watching Reva and Taleth more closely points and shouts, "STOP THE SLAVE!" And then Chay is out the door and running. The two guards above watching are quick on the uptake, they snap up arrows in a hurry - draw-loose draw-loose in a very rapid fashion. Two of the arrows find their marks, sticking into the Sith but they otherwise don't pursue. The one that was taking notice of the two others in the distraction team - we'll call him Harry - Harry runs out after Chay trying to chase him down while Chaaaa...rr... lie, yes, Charlie (the other guard) is still looking disapprovingly at Tabatha before turning back to look at the others. "Woh! Woh! Hold up, Harry's got 'im. You stay here let's make sure we got all the evidence. Don't want Tabatha getting off the hook again."

Whysper catches Kore's movements, and signal. Moves to make her way out of the room as well, planning for the next room to try and inspect. She glances back to the room they just searched, giving it a good once over before leaving.

Reva pointedly ignores the running Sith, explaining to Taleth, "He's Alexandrian. Forget him." So it's more complicated to make him disappear, she implies. Tabatha, however, and these guards, have no such defense. "Forget him, let him crawl back to his lair and die," she tells the two guards. "Now get that fire put out, or I'll stick you on a spit myself and roast you alive!"

The Syndicate takes not one, but two arrows to the knee! Chay stumbles, but continues to run. And run. Once he's out of sight enough, his form blurs, and he takes on another disguise, altering his form again. His breath burns in his lungs; not just from the exertion. It's memory.

Goddamn Charneth.

He looks for some place--some place, he can yank these arrows out. Adventurer's tavern, maybe? Gobber dance hall?

Chay feels two arrows whistle by him as he continues to run, and then as he takes that moment to blur his form and shift his disguise... well it looks like Harry has totally lost Chay. He pauses, whipping his head one way, and then the other. Quite... well quite lost, he just doesn't see Chay. Probably because Chay tossed that blanket quickly around him, changing his outline and a hump, making him look seasons older as he walks right by.

Of course he might spot the blood trail, but for now it seems that Chay has lost his tail.

Reva's attempt at intimidating Charlie gets a chuckle at first then he pauses and looks at Reva and Taleth, a nod of his head. "Err, right." Charlie looks to Tabatha again, then back to Reva and Taleth, "Just make sure you get all the paperwork in right okay? That damn druggy has been killing us with all her mistakes." And he heads out the door, hanging a right toward the cart that's on fire.

"Aww... Muscle-y Sith left." Tabatha pouts.

Shym'r, Whysper, and Kore all start working through the Embassy and back toward the the stairs. It takes them near a minute, but Whyper and Shym'r help Kore get through completely unseen, avoiding the random movement of people as they head toward one disturbance or the other. As they come up to the top of the stairs, they see a building layout much like the downstairs - except that room in the north west doesn't have a door to the outside obviously.

Reva' lacklusater intimidation seems to have been good enough. Or else they're playing it safe. But she'll continue to play these cards for a few more minutes anyhow. Our parters' invisibility was going to last how long? Well, she needs to keep this part of things stirred up that long, at least, so she turns on Tabatha, and says, "Yes. The Revenant records. Show us them, and we'll see how good your filing system is, or if it's as bad as they say?"

"Look. Tabatha, was it? If you could provide some documentation that would prove the Revenant is not being used to run drugs - We'll let you off with a warning." Exhaling in a loud sigh. "We honestly don't have time for this small time drug stuff. We are after the big fish. Get us the documentation and we'll call it quits, yes?"

The old woman stumbles into an alley. Then, she--that is, Chay--reaches down to rip the arrows out. He tucks the fired weapons and the blood attached to them into his coat, and begins to wrap, and staunch the blood. Then, it's time to change disguise again. After that, he'll head to von Ironbrew's. The pub is near the Colosseum, in that district. There should be enough Angoron and Tarienite chaos there--and blood and fighting--to cover him. He hopes.

Chay hears his tracker just outside the alley as he yanks out the arrows and tucks them away and... apparently Harry is having an off night. Like really off. He just wanders right by the alley and doesn't even look into it - in fact he starts running off after someone two streets down that he thinks is Chay.

Unfortuantely for Chay, the wounds just aren't wrapped very tight and soon he feels the stick as blood still runs down his legs. He'll probably have to redo those bandages if he wants to stop from being tracked.

Taleth and Reva start playing back and forth off eachother. They look between one and the next, blinking as Tabatha stares between them. She just looks between one and the next and her mouth opens and closes. Between the two of them and the drugs they seem to break her down. She starts crying, putting her head down into her arms as she croons out, "The Revenant? It was he-e-e-e-ere. We sent wo-o-o-o-ord. I just. I just. I don't kno-o-o-ow. I'd check the records room but they don't let me in there any more! Ever since Fred and I were caught in the room they said I have to stay down he-e-e-e-re. I'm so lo-o-o-onely. I just want to go ho-o-o-o-ome." She's sobbing now.

Chay looks down and swears. Swears. He glances where Harry is running, and then drops into a fast crouch. He...gods, and the Hunter take it! Choking back a keening sound, he rips part of his beloved coat. The one his kin had given him, when they'd found freedom. He tries to bind the wound a second time.

Taleth slaps her hand down on the desk and rolls her emerald eyes dramatically, "I don't need excuses! I need results. I just need proof. Any proof that the Revenant is not running drugs. You can't get that?" Looking back to Reva, "Looks like we got to take her down town."

Reva nods to Taleth, and rolls her eyes at the weepy woman, and barks, "Keep yourself together or we've no further use for you." Implying that no use equals being thrown to the sharks or taken downtown, neither of which is any good for Tabatha. "Take us to the room where these records are. You can go in if /we/ are with you. Now -move-!"

As the three start to inch forward into the shadows, the guards upstairs begin to move about. The three of you cover for eachother though. Each person moving as the next watches. Several times there's a pause to hold Whysper in place as there's a near miss with a guard stepping right out in front of her. There's more movement, another pause, but slowly you do work your way through the upstairs. The soft sounds, the dark shadows, Kore is your guide with the surest of steps and Shym'r manages to just barely skate by through them.

It's a team effort as the three of you slip into the north west room and then pause to look around - a moment for your eyes to adjust. It looks like a storage room of some sort. There could be records in here, it's hard to say until you start looking through boxes.

The man tracking after Chay finally picks up the scent again, he spots the blood trail and quickly running after it. Thankfully, Chay had spotted that he was bleeding again and his next bandaging was perfect - perfect. The pull of the cowl up, the blur of illusion, and he turns into the old woman.

It's still a labor for Chay, it's hard to really move with those wounds but at least now it's not nearly as difficult. He skirts his way through the people at this hour, and eventually makes his way to a safe haven. The tracker getting no closer and finally losing him in the twists of crowds with a yelled curse and a return back to his post.

Tabatha is still crying as Taleth and Reva start to grill her, first one, then the other, and Reva really applies the screws now. She's sobbing, "Okay. Okay. If you promise? Just send me back ho-o-o-o-ome." She slowly stands up to her feet and starts off toward the door behind her desk, taking the two on a direct route to the upstairs.

Kore, Whysper, and Shym'r start going through the upstairs room in the north west corner. It's clearly a storage room and it looks like it's going to be an absolute loss. There's nothing in here that looks like records no matter how hard you check. And then... Then Kore pulls down a box, opens it and - huh.

Right there, in front of Kore, is a model ship. Clearly one that was kept in a place of being honored as a pride of Charnese Naval power. And written along the side of it - THE REVENANT. That right there? That could prove to be definitive proof, especially since there's some paper work in the bottom of it talking about the year it was brought into service, the armaments and capabilities. Well, that definitely places the Revenant in the employment of the Charnese Navy.

Taleth and Reva are brought up stairs and taken to a room in the west-north west corner (just south of where Shym'r, Whysper and Kore are). As they walk in, they know this is the right room. It takes only a minute or so to find the right cabinet, opening it up they see papers that talk directly of the Revenant's mission. It's still employed in the Charnese Navy and ordered to commense covert operations to destroy trade between Alexandria and Veyshan.

Smoking thunderbelcher anyone?

Reva looks to Taleth, nods, and then says to Tabatha, "All right. Go /now/ pack your things, take the next ship home, and tell -no one-." That should confuse things pretty heavily. And when Tabatha is gone, Reva will grab all the documentation and stuff it into her coat, then just walk out bold as brass.
