  • Summary: A caravan has been waylaid, and the well-organized bandits captured one of the wagons and a few of the merchants! Recover the wagon & goods, rescue the merchants, and give those bandits what for!

<OOC> Kojot says, "Excellent! And now, going somewhat In Media Res..."

A caravan of merchants arrived in Alexandria, looking a bit worse for the wear. They said that they were attacked by a group of bandits, led by a handful of skilled spearmen. While most of the caravan was able to get away, one of the wagons (and the merchants on said wagon) was captured. The Guild dispatched a group to recover the wagon & goods and rescue the captured merchants.

The directions to the location of the attack are clear, as are the wagon tracks leading away from the road and through the muddy ground, making a set of churned lines that are easy enough to follow. The tracks crest a small ridge--

And there before you is over half a dozen bandits around a pair of campfires. There's a shout as they see you about the time you see them, and they start drawing their swords. The only sign of the wagon is the continued tracks leading across the clearing and deeper into the woods.

The Oruch moves quickly to intercept one of the approaching bandits, throwing a brass knuckled fist at him, but unfortunately he is unable to connect with the fellow. At least he will keep him from getting away at least.

Yngvild is never the most stealthy of people, let alone in her full plate adventuring armour. She is also not the fastest and so a bandit manages to get through and stab her before the huge Aesir is quite ready. She bellows out a curse that echoes around the bandit camp and hefts her huge hammer, but still not quite set her swing is wild, missing him by a huge margin.

Thankfully far in the back, Azariah uses her experience to take her time. She draws back on the string and mutters a minor prayer to Serriel. Her prayer is answered with a glow on her arrow as she lets it go, hitting the guy in the shoulder, dangerously close to his neck.

Brianna doesn't like how close they are coming, "Would you mind standin back some more, not too close please." she says as she lifts her pistol and aims at one of the bandits. She hooks some kind of tube to her pistol from her deathray which is still on her back, as she activates her armor and seems to be moving a bit faster. There is an electrical pulse that runs to the pistol and then she fires with deadly aim at one of the bandits, the bullet sparking as it flies and hits with much more force, an explosion happening as it hits and releases an electrical pulse as well. THe bandit falls.

Vroole watches as the bandits advance towards the party, his armor coming to life, the gears under the plates beginning to spin and configure his armor for better firing. Silly bandit near Yngvild takes a full blast of his freeze death ray raking across his body and is frozen in place, eyes glassing over and ceasing to live.

The bandits close on the party, with Yngvild and Brianna being stabbed at ineffectively. Kroth finds himself flanked between a pair, and they stab to great and grevious effect.

Kroth is apparently having a tough time today, perhaps its the wounds he just recieved, or maybe he is just cursed with bad luck. He tries to attack one of the bandits, but seems unable to land a solid blow.

The staggering bandit fishes out a vial and swigs the contents, looking somewhat better afterwards, while another one circles around and tries to (and fails at) catching Brianna off-guard.

Azariah sees the others are in deep trouble and tries to support Yngvild. She fires an arrow, but unfortunately, the arrow goes wide....barely. "Blast." She mutters.

A low growl escapes Yngvild as she hoists her hammer up to the sky "IRON MOUNTAIN" she bellows in loud voiced prayer "HEAL THY HEROES" she commands as a bright blue glow emanates from her huge earthbreaker and casts out along her and Kroth. It doesn't look like he prayer is all that sucesful, just a few surface cuts closing slightly which adds to the anger in her gaze.

Brianna growls as hey start to gang up on her, "No that just is not fair, take turns." She pulls out a small tube with a few attachments, "Now this, keep away from heat, do not shake, do not drop, fragile." she says and then points it and pushes a button, flames shoot out in a cone, hitting two of the bandits, charring and dropping one while just crisping the other a little.

Jaunting forward to place more of the bandits in range for better precision shots, Vroole blasts his icey death towards the bandit harrassing Yngvild. Hopefully to free the healer for what she needs to do. The ray catches this one across the body and another bandit is out cold.... heh, heh... yes intentional as the bandit literally freezes up and falls to the ground a stiff.

A swift stab drops Kroth, then the two that were on him close in on Yngvild. The other makes a stab at the cleric, but doesn't get past the armor.

One thing people should remember, never assume an Oruch is down for the count. As he starts to stagger and fall, one of the cutpurses turns to run and Kroth grabs a bag from his belt and hurls it at him. The tanglefoot bag explodes and covers him in goo, though it doesnt stick him to the ground.

Yngvild seemingly pissed off beyond words, the huge Aesir's form spinning around, wielding her hammer almost as if it were weightless. She raises it to the heavens and screams "ANGORON!!!!!" the warcry echoing around as the hammer comes down. There is a sickening CRUNCH as the blunt head comes down atop the bandit's blund head. It explodes in a shower of blood and brains, coating all those around as his body is driven into the dirt by the force of the blow.

Brianna frowns a bit as they are ganging up on her still, "I said one at a time." She moves back as Yngvild takes down one and pulls out another device. This one almost looks like a telescope, though its got attachments. She holds it out at one of them and a beam of fire strikes and sets one of the bandits on fire, dropping it.

Taking aim at the nearest bandit as most are going down quickly, his freeze ray passes right by and he is half cursing under his breath for such a simple shot that missed.

Worried more about Kroth and him falling unconcious, Azariah keeps making her way around the battle, and places her hand on Kroth's shoulder. "maiden of Battle, please heal this one's wounds." She sas as the touch seems to knit the oruch's wounds.

Standing tall and proud with hammer, helm and armor covered in blood and brains Yngvild presents a somewhat impressive image of a war Cleric "WITNESS OUR COURAGE AND LEND US YOUR STRENGTH PATRON OF HEROES" she calls to the heavens. Again her patron doesn't seem terribly impressed from the amount of heaing felt by the party and she seems a little non-plussed as she lowers her hammer down with a thud.

Brianna doesn't like being chased at all. "Hey now...Enough is enough." and she moves back just a bit more and raises her pistol again. A spark courses from her deathray to the pistol and the pistol seems to glow for a moment and then she aims with deadly accuracy at the singed bandit that has been chasing her. She takes her time and looses the shot. The sparking bullet flies and hits the bandits gut, exploding within. For a moment one can almost think they can see lighting coming out of his pores as the deathray charge explodes within the bandit, dropping him almost instantly probably a bit charred on this inside now too.

<OOC> Kojot says, "Go ahead and RP for a bit. How is everyone for time?"

<OOC> Yngvild is good for a little bit

<OOC> Azariah is good for a little bit too.

Kroth coughs a few times and struggles to get to his feet, "Graaahhh.." He shakes his head, "Sometimes I feel my life exists solely for the gods amusement." He nods to the one that healed him, "Thank you."

Vroole almost feels sorry for the last bandit as he is tangled up in vines, but it was only for a few seconds as his freezing death ray takes to travel the short distance and the bandit freezes up and passes on to the cold depths of death.

<OOC> Azariah also has 3 hours.

Yngvild casts a quick glance around to make sure no-one is close to death or there is any imminent danger, then perhaps does something unexpected. She wraps her hands around the haft of her hammer and sinks to the ground on one knee in a silent prayer, without her usual bellowing.

<OOC> Kojot says, "Should be able to get the second encounter in, then."

<OOC> Yngvild has maybe an hour if that

<OOC> Brianna says, "only has about an hour herself."

Kroth looks around a bit, and gestures towards the tracks. "There are likely more ahead, we should be prepared for another battle." He draws his bow....perhaps not looking forward to a close up fight again.

Azariah smiles a bit as Kroth stands. "it seems we have more in ranged firepower than in melee." She then shrugs. "Now....shall we go and finish this?"

The trail winds around some bushes and trees, and leads to another clearing. There's a campfire, plus the captured wagon as well as three bound and gagged figures sitting at the base of the wagon. The figures appear to be awake, as they are struggling against their bindings. To the side of the clearing, a team of horses grazes.

The clearing otherwise appears unoccupied.

Yngvild gets to her feet with a clatter of armor, her broad face still troubled more than her usual carefree manner as she clutters over in an uncharacteristic silence. For a few moments anyway. She reaches out to lay a guantleted hand on Kroth's shoulder, the metal covered in streaks of drying out...stuff. Still a healing warmth floods through him before she takes her hand away and steps back.

Kroth keeps the bow at the ready, even though he is healed, he isn't taking any chances. When they find the captured folks and wagon he thinks its a trap, and waits to make sure nothings going to suprise them.

Vroole was a little weary after the last battle, but as time passed so did that and the path continued. The clearing looked like a trap though for all intent and purposes... Where had the bandits that captured the wagon gone. He doesn't even want to speak only shrugs and makes a wondering type of motion with his hands and consciously begins to ready a few of his own devices as well as this doesn't seem like it will turn out to well. A few more gestures and h tries to get across someone scouting who might be more stealthy, sneak, sneak to see what is around.

Vroole is keeping his eye sockets open, though they never really close. There is something though that nags at him, pointing out some empty vials, and the scraps of fabric with the emblem of two spears crossing through a knot work briar. As quietly as he can he speaks of them, "See those, does that mean anything to anyone?" He also drops down his Artificer Goggles and activates them, casting his Detect Magic for one minute in them.

Kroth frowns, looking at whats pointed out, but he knows nothing about nothing. "I am not sure." He is still worried about someone coming back, there could have been more bandits afterall.

The bound figures wriggle forward, flopping onto their stomachs as they try to inch towards the party, still trying to get out of the ropes that they are tied in.

Kroth frowns, "I guess I'll go untie them, the rest of you can still watch for trouble." He shoulders his bow and moves down towards the captives, going to release them.

Yngvild nods briefly in agreement with Kroth's plan "I will stay in range" she rumbles, as quietly as giant Aesir cleric's can. Of course they have likely been well spotted anyway. Still she hefts her hammer and moves at a distance with him.

Looking about, Azariah doesn't see anything abnormal, so she nods for Kroth to go ahead. She has heal spells.

"Thank the gods you're here," one of the merchants gasps once freed by Kroth. "The leaders of these bandits heard the fight break out, so they grabbed as much of the cargo as each of them could, then drank potions and vanished!"

"Last we heard, they were running away as fast as they could manage," a second merchant adds as he tries to rub some feeling back into his wrists. "I think they were more interested in getting away with some of the goods than in fighting for all of them."

The third nods in agreement. "I think one of them said something about returning to the rest of the Briarthorns with the supplies...?" he comments.

Kroth nods at the information, looking to the others, "If there are more of them, I think it best we report this to the guild. I have fallen once today, I do not believe I can push my luck a second time."

Yngvild considers Kroth's words and then nods in agreement "We have the prisoners..." she rumbles as she breaks out her healing kit and starts to move amongst them "...we can come back fresh for the bandits"

Azariah nods quietly. "As long as the prisoners are safe. Come on...let's head back."

The trip back is pretty uneventful, especially with the horses hitched back up to the wagon. The injuries of the merchants aren't too severe, and seem to be more from saps than bladed weapons. The Guild promises to look into the information about 'Briarthorns', and might have jobs later to deal with them.
