As the gas disperses around the laughing Iron King, Illiria scoots rapidly backwards, though she was far enough back to avoid the worst of it already -- aside from getting a faceful of a hideous smell. "That is vile!" she gasps, before looking up to see the state the rest of the party are in; and quickly, she touches her hand to her heart and then points towards Elyanna, the closest. "Be pure of blood and body, my Champion!" she declares, as a warming light washes over the Keeper and makes her ills... fade away.

Sirri, for her part, turns quite green after getting the gas full in the face; she drops to her knees and vomits, ejecting the contents of her stomach onto the stone in front of her. "You... you ruined my butter tarts," she gasps, before dry-retching again.

The Displacers, it seems, have also avoided the worst of it; and Rakketh is not about to let his prey off the hook just because of a little gas poisoning. He seizes the moment, and seizes Ashes as well, biting down hard on the Mourner's leg and leaving a deep, bloody wound.

Ashes gasps and clutches at her stomach. Her bile rises, her insides twisting into knots. She's lost her concentration. She's still angry, and glaring, but her plans have gone out the window.

With a >GAK< and a lurch, she dry heaves. She didn't eat before coming out, being wise in the ways of adventuring, but her tortured guts still want to empty themselves. She tries to cough out the void.

A step, or two, away from the gas, and she feels the teeth as the male displacer leaves a mark. She makes a small cry of pain which turns into more retching.

The revolting emmanation from the fetid construct prompted the highborn halfbreed to issue forth her body's revolutionary manifesto as an immersive multimedia event, coughs wetly as the blessed touch of Illiria quells the unrest within her.

She barely has time to draw in a relieved breath when she stiffens at Ashes' cry of pain.

"Ashlee!" The Keeper turns, seeing her situation, as well as the fact that the retchful miasma wasn't a sign of the construct's destruction so much as some sort of defensive measure. Sandwiched between it and the female beast as she is, she can't displace to support her comrade without compromising everything, nor rely on what little magics she can still muster.

Instead, she yellow-knuckles her falchion, less familiar in many subtle ways from her former issue, and brings it around with a cry in a horizontal slash across the Iron King's back, with a sharp clang and some denting.

She soaks the rebound through her trailing leg, then rolls her wrists to invert the stroke, coming up under his arm at a diagonal, and this is met with a more acute ring of breaching steel, promising rolled and chipped edges that will take days to sharpen out of her weapon.

As Elyanna's weapon lays into the Iron King, the construct leans back its head and howls, an ear-splitting sound of rage, that leaves Alvin clapping his hands over his ears and screaming in his cage.

"SAVAGES!" bellows the King, "KNAVES! VILLAINS! I SHALL HAVE YOUR HEADS ON PIKES!" As the gas surrounding him dissipates, he hurls his sword across the room. "My servants!" he shouts, "Bring forth my armor!" Materializing in the air, a series of silver-etched metal plates appear and snap into place around his body and limbs. The gas escaping him ignites into searing green flame, as he holds out his hand before him, "Bring forth my hammer! Bring forth Skullcrash, the Death of Heroes!" Materializing in his hand there appears a massive gold hammer, double-headed, with a number of crown-wearing skulls hanging off the handle by means of leather cords.

"And now you WILL ALL PERISH!"

Kessa stalks in for the kill on Elyanna -- or at least, a little more pain. The Displacer crouches low, shifting from place to place (or at least, appearing to!) as it gets close before lashing out with both tentacles, one after the other. And, one after the other, they slap the Keeper's armor and rattle her a little bit without doing any particular injury. Well, all things considered, that part wasn't so bad.

<OOC> Donna says, "Can I do a Spellcraft check to see if that armor has any particular upgrades?"
GAME: Donna rolls spellcraft: (19)+10: 29

The armor upgraded his damage resistance, it will negate the next incoming debuff, it healed him, and physical strikes against him that miss have a chance to cause fire damage to the attacker.

That is some *foulness* that man-monster is giving off.

Fortunately, Donna agrees wholeheartedly with Illira's efforts to cure the most-afflicted by the gas. Choking down a dry-heave, she changes tack as the Iron King changes out his gear. Freshly-donned plating is struck at joints, straps, buckles, and the brawler is very clearly trying to ruin the Iron King's iron. To no effect, but still.

"I can do that once more," Illiria gasps, as she scootches across the floor to get a little closer to Ashes. "My assistance to you, Champion! Breath clean, and be relieved of the ravages of this most vile monster!" She touches hand to heart again, and now it is the Mourner's turn to feel the warm light bathing her, and relieving her of her ills.

Sirri it seems, is rather... upset, about the manner in which she has been treated. That and the fact that being surrounded by poison gas has certainly ruined her remaining butter tarts. "YAAAAAAAAAAH!" the gnome yells, as she rushes forwards and jabs her sword into the Iron King's knee; she gets it right in between a couple of the plates, drawing the sharp, wrenching sound of something breaking.

Rakketh leans back, and his tentacles lash out at Ashes. One of them connects, drawing blood once again, adding to the blood already decorating the cat's face and dripping on the floor. The beast snarls, baring bloodied teeth and snapping menacingly.

With the thumps and whiffs of the fortuitously futile felinoid fustigation, Elyanna is reminded that the King isn't the only meat in sandwich.

As he calls them villains, she huffs a short bark of bitter mirth, "Says the-"

"Hraaaagh!" she breaks off to turn for a forceful swing at the displacer flanking her, though the damnable shimmer about the creature thwarts her aim.

"Coward holding a-Hrmph!" Another swing fails to part flesh, and the red woman spits, "Child hostage!"

<OOC> Delilah says, "You're all good. For the next 10 minutes you and Elyanna both have +4 on saves vs the same thing."

The Mourner feels Illiria's panacea taking affect. The nauseated feeling vanishes, her stomach settles, her ears stop itching. She can breath. She can feel the teeth of the displacer beast rip open another wound.

All in good time, and not enough time.

She steps back, curling and turning her side towards the beast's supposed position as she works her spell. She touches her holy symbol and prays. "Feiu of the Tears, make him hear my words."

"DROP IT!" Ashlee's voice is powerful and clear, the monotone inflection full of iron order for the iron king. He hears her words.

He does not heed them. Nothing falls.

"AND NOW YOU WILL DIE FOR YOUR INSOLENCE." The Iron King weathers Donna's blows, and doesn't seem overly interested in doing as Ashes' says. He is, afterall, the King. His hammer, something an ogre might have trouble with, is lifted with one hand and then as he spins, he brings it crashing down on the brawler and leaves her broken on the cold stone floor, the impact echoing throughout the room, before he turns and tries to do the same to Ashes -- whom he manages to miss, smashing a crater into the floor beside her. 'FEAR NOT PEASANT, YOUR TIME COMES!"

Elyanna, luckily, must endure something that must seem far less dangerous -- the teeth of the Displacer. Which, this time, don't find the Keeper's flesh.

GAME: Donna rolls 1d20+1: (6)+1: 7 (Roll to stabilize, vs DC11 - Fail)

Pancaked to the floor, Donna is closer to the Grey Halls than ever she has been before, but the fight does not leave her. Bones are crushed, blood runs, and drawing breath is an impossibility, but the fight does not leave her. Consciousness is a fever dream, but her fingers still twitch as if to form fists. The fight has not left her. She still has a job to do, and after all the trio have weathered, she will be damned if she dies this close to mission's end.

The panicked wail that escapes Illiria's lips as Donna is smashed into the stone floor is palpable. "No!" she cries, "No, she must live!" She holds her hand up in the air and gathers up a fistful of light, releasing it in a burst that touches all of her allies, Donna included; and all will feel their wounds knit and the troubles eased. Donna will get to open her eyes, feeling her bones put back like they were before (more or less, at least), her bleeding reduced to a manageable level, and her kidney returned to its previous shape. And, she has a really great view of the Iron King's ankles from here. "Arise, Champion!" calls out Illiria. "You shall not fall here!"

Sirri's eyes go wide as Donna falls, and for a moment it looks like the gnome might make a run for it. But then Illiria's healing energy bathes her as well, and her own wound knits; and she dives back into the fray, making another slash at the Iron King's legs. She masterfully slips her blade past his protective plating, right in the spot where there's... absolultely nothing important. "Take that!" she declares triumphantly. "That was for DONNA."

Rakketh, it seems, has developed a taste... for a certain Mourner. As her flesh is knit by the Mermaid's holy skills, the feline licks its lips and lunges, sinking its teeth very, very deep indeed, and leaving Ashes with a wound the type of which people show off in bars and brag about when they want everyone to know how tough they are.

Elyanna is not having the most luck with this, as her blows simply pass by the errant displacer, and so, she turns her focus back toward the cantankerous clanker in time to see Donna get driven to the floor.

She'd taken a hit like that...

...in...

Her grip tightens on the flachion's hilt, and with a snarl, she brings the blade down into the golem's side with another somewhat biting clang, "Bastard!"

Another term of endearment she doesn't use lightly...

Her indignant followup stroke passes near enough to trigger his defensive incandescence, though the Keeper deftly twists aside from it's reactive flare.

"Get the boy!" she snarls. <goblin-talk>

Then, in a bout of errant, desperate inspiration, "Would the death of heroes be so effective against a villain, fool?" she chastises the construct in effort to draw attention from the felled brawler and the others.

"Bad Kitty," Ashes grunts, actual pain in her words as she staggers. She takes a step closer to Donna and reaches out, "Feiu of the Tears, she needs to fight more."

It's a cool touch, a cold touch, a death-like touch, so much like the Grey Halls. A place where there's no suffering, no pain, beyond death. The brawler has been there, under Ashlee's guidance, and brought close by that hammer, but the Grey Lady refuses another tenant. Donna's condition improves.

"This cat is hard to ignore." She states, returning to her monotone, "We're losing ground."

The King turns and lashes out with his hammer, swinging it through the air at Elyanna and just barely missing the Keeper with the imposing weight of it. "YOUR TURN WILL BE NEXT!" he roars, as the skulls rattle against one another. "I shall add your HEAD to my trophies!" Heedless to the fact that Donna is not, in fact, staying down on the ground, he turns again and drives his hammer down mercilessly, smashing the space that moments earlier had been occupied by Sirri. "There shall be no comfort for the fallen!" he snarls, "But you shall ALL join the bitch in death!"

Kessa, meanwhile, is wasting no time; she has been ordered to devour Elyanna a bite at a time, and it seems that this is her sole, single-minded intent. She lashes out with her tentacles, whipping them across Elyanna's back and leaving deep gouges that tear and bleed, exulting with a roar as blood is drawn.

As Illira's healing washes over them all, and Ashes' efforts target her directly, Donna's eyes snap open, bleeding pale blue fire.

"Oh you *motherfucker."

Her gauntletted hands *slam* against the ground, the brawler using the recoil to help push her up enough to get her feet under her. The hammer dings off the side of her head, but not even a concussion can deter her focus, as she grabs hold of one wrist.

"YOU CALLIN' US PEASANTS, LIKE WE'RE BENEATH YOU?! YOU TRY'NA BEAT US INTO THE DIRT?!" With a sharp jerk, the *pop pop pop* of dislocated joints rings through the chamber as arcane fire flares up to cover an arm that is now noticeably longer than its twin. Rearing back, she whips the arm around and, rubberlike, it wraps around the Iron King's ankles.

"HAVE A TASTE THEN, YOU SONOVABITCH! SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT!"

The brawler sets her feet and hauls backward, and the Iron King tumbles to the ground with an almighty crash and clatter of iron plating.

With the King down, Illiria makes her move; she drags herself across the floor, shuffling between Elyanna and the King to get to Donna. "Let the Goddess soothe you," she whispers, sitting up straight and pulling herself up high enough to kiss the Brawler on the hand. "Let your wounds knit, and may you fight until the victory you so justly deserve is yours.

As Donna's wounds are being even further knit, Sirri is looking like she really is about to run away -- but the King is down on the gorund, and this opportunity cannot be missed. "AND THIS IS FOR PEASANTS EVERYWHER!" she yells, as she runs up and jams her shortsword into a part of the King she hasn't yet been able to reach -- his crotch. And perhaps he doesn't have any particular equipment there, but it still connects and it still breaks something inside.

Rakketh is as single minded as Kessa. The Displacer Beast jumps to the side and whips his tentacles, leaying both of them into Ashes and leaving her ragged and bloody, but still standing. His lips peel back as he snarls, his head bobbing like a cat watching a mouse.

"Ahhhh!" Ashes screams as the displacer rips into her. She pants, feeling the blood slicking down her back and her thighs. "Someone kill that cat."

She touches her holy symbol, murmuring and glaring at the Iron King, and the cat. It grows dark around her, and cold, the balance of scales tipping towards as the life energy is sucked out of the displacer and the golem.

Everyone is equal in death; the king that crows so much about peasants will discover that. Maybe his previous victims will be there to greet him. Funny how the same situation can be both heaven and hell, were his victims to torture him for eternity, let's say.

The silvery strands of their lives are sucked into the Mourner's holy symbol, not enough to kill them, but enough to give a taste. This is what death feels like.

Hauling the healing fish all the way here from the Fisherman *really* was a good thing.

"YOU DARE!?"

The King lays on the floor, receiving a multitude of blows from those around him, as he rolls to his side, plants the hammer, and hauls himself up to his feet, receiing even more blows as he rises. "YOU *DARE?!*" The hammer is raised high before he spins, swinging it and winging the cage that contains the crying Alvin, as he smashes the former hard into Elyanna's chest, knocking the Keeper back and leaving her winded. "YOU SHALL PAY!" he roars, and swings the weapon around again, destroying a portion of floor where Donna had been standing moments earlier. "I SHALL KILL YOU ALL! Then I shall Pursue you into the Grey Halls and END YOU AGAIN!"

With Elyanna staggered, Kessa makes no hesitation, as she lunges in and clamps her jaws down on the Keeper's side; and this is the moment where it is all just too much, and she finds herself in the position Donna was in moments earlier; on the ground, with the light fading, and a Displacer leaning down close over her face. The snarl of bloodied teeth is the last thing she gets as consiousness fades.

<OOC> Delilah says, "Kessa is still up but looking kinda bloody."

"Gonna need you to hold on a sec," Donna says dismissively, raising a shooshing finger at the King then *turning her back* to the Iron King and taking a single hop-step to Elyanna's side. "THAT'S A *BAD.* *KITTY.*" she roars, her fists lashing out at her chosen target. The first time her fist collides with flesh, the brawler grins savagely, able to aim her next blow all the better. "NOW GIT, OR YOU GET ANOTHER ONE."

The fight, it seems, is not going entirely well. Elyanna is on the ground, clinging to life by a thread with a Displacer Beast standing over her that, even after Donna's ministrations, is still intent on doing as it was bid -- killing ELyanna and eating her. Ashes, likewise, is looking rather worse for wear, and Illiria is plainly torn between which to help, though she is already edging towards Elyanna, given that she's already down. Sirri, likewise, looks like she's close to her breaking point; one little gnome who's clearly not experienced enough for this can only handle so much.

Around Ashes, everything distorts; or rather, it slows down. The King is rounding on his next target. Illiria is chanting, Donna is punching, but it all grinds to a halt, leaving everyone frozen in place -- at least, to Ashes' eyes they are.

"Is this a bad time?"

A familiar voice is heard from behind the Keeper, and a familiar psyhopomp steps in from the hallway. Or, perhaps straight fron the Grey Halls. One can't really say.

"I thought we might just... slow things down, for a moment. This looks rather difficult, and since Mr High and Mighty here went and threatened to attack your *souls*, well, that... that just can't be let lie."

"Oh. Hello." Ashlee glances at her displacer, a hand touching her back as she wonders if she missed an attack landing. Not yet, it seems. She turns to the psychopomp, skull face to spiritual one. She nods once, "I'm having a bad time."

She gazes at the battle, "I have the spells but I prioritized poorly." There are other observations, reasons, excuses which she doesn't get into.

She shrugs a little, "He is a mote in the Feiu's eye, like the slug. I don't fear the boast but he should be punished for it."

There's a coldness in the Mourner that's been there since she was born. "I am a conduit and a vessel, whatever you need to me to sacrifice to save them, punish him. Yes. We need the help. I linger at Her pleasure."

"There's nothing wrong with your prioritization," Tessa counters. "Sometimes bad luck is just bad luck, Ashes. Believe me, I know, I did the same thing when I was still, well, mortal." She picks her way around the Iron King, and kneels beside Elyanna. "Your friend will be alright. The mermaid, Illiria, she's such a darling. She'll have her up in no time." She stands, and meanders her way around back in front of Ashes. "And you've all done such a wonderful job of keeping Delilah, that bubbly sweetheart that she is, alive through all this. Really, nobody thought the lot of you were going to manage it. So, it'd be a shame to see things all come unglued now."

The Psychopomp claps a hand on Ashes' shoulder, and the Mourner will feel her body knit back together; wounds disappear, and she feels expended spells return to her memory.

"Oh, here... give this a try." Tessa draws her greatsword from the scabbard on her back, and offers it to the Keeper. "You'll find it easy enough to wield. It wants to be wielded, by you, right this moment." She pauses, and smiles, "Of course, you'll have to give it back afterwards, but for now you are welcome to wield Arreth, the Last Sunrise."

Confidence fills the Mourner, rushing in where her wounds were. She straightens, taking Arreth, hands around the grip of the great blade, feeling its weight, feeling its want. The blade wants to be swung. The blade wants her to do it. "I feel it."

She does. "I'm ready." She is.

Mourner Ciaradh, whose name means: 'the time between daylight and dark', Dusk, twilight, is ready. The Ashes of Twilight will weild the Last Sunrise.

And it will be so, for the Iron King.

Tessa smiles as Ashes takes hold of the weapon, and moves to step past the Mourner as time starts to wind back up again. "Let the Iron King feel your wrath, Ashes. He has existed for hundreds of years, in the dark and discarded places of the world. He is a locust who feeds on the dead, and nothing more. Smite him like the filth he is."

And then Tessa vanishes; time snaps back to its usual speed, and the din of battle returns; the sounds of pain and the clash of steel, the Iron King's shouting and the snarling of felines.
