A Mountainous Exploration Part 6

You has descended, most of you, into a cavern that seems outside of the network of caves you're in, or at least is a large section of it. Dazzling crystals hung amidst the stalagmites above you, and from them descended a creature made from them. Within it swirls a sort of pulsing, living energy as it hits the ground with a crash. It rises up, fifteen feet tall easily.

A pulse of color across its approximate head gives the impression of a smiley as Malik and Seldan look on from above.

Olek rushes at the golem, feet pounding as he charges, bellowing a challenge as he swings with his axe, the blade hacking at the golem, though it doesn't seem to do a lot. There is a pulse of blue fire that seems to burn Olek, or like it might burn him, but he's way past caring at this point. Or past any sort of normal conversation.

GAME: Seldan casts Magic Missile. Caster Level: 11 DC: 16

Surveying the situation quickly, Seldan frowns at the smiley face on the head of the golem below him. He draws a sigil in the air, and a series of blue-white missiles form and arc towards the thing unerringly, vanishing into the creature without apparent effect beyond the swirling of color deep within the crystals. "It absorbs magic," he tells his companion. "We had best join the battle!"

"Perhaps," Malik says, pulling arrows. "But let's see how it likes cold iron. Extra cold." He takes his aim, letting fly a small hail of arrows, the dull gray metal still having a deadly gleam on the edge as a frosty mist trails after them.


When Malik's arrows hit, the cold is diminised by the same blue flames that touched Olek, and the magical energy seems to be abosrbed by it.

"Pack! Get rock!" It's got the stones, she's got the sticks! Together, they'll break some bones! Rocks have bones, right! She urges Gurr forward to the glowing smiley and points her stick at it. "Rhar beat rock! Stick beat rock" Who needs lizard or Spock?

GAME: Munch casts Shield. Caster Level: 6 DC: 13

Munch drops to the floor with a flap of leathering wings, murmuring under his breath. Thousands of tiny scales molt from the golem, falling away, only to swirl in arcane winds into a sofly glowing layer, positioning itself between the Disciple and the rock-thing. Reaver, the massive adamantine greataxe, rolls it's etched eye, and starts to glow. "This might be painful. Let's see if he picks on someone his own size." Munch begins to swell, growing in size, and in moments stands well over 12 foot himself.

Spikes erupt from its all over, each glowing with the same blue fire. It's form seems... mutable, to say the least. It's still having that vague impression of a smiling face, however, as it's blow is deflected by Rhar's assistance in Olek's defenses. It's new spikes make it cumbersome, however, and it's second kick at Olek is a definite whiff. Still, it's blows look... powerful, if the stalagmite it just kicked over and turned to powder is any indication.

Kore nimbly crosses the terrain between herself and the golem and a light run, her attention more on the thing's movements and the strange glowing than the creture itself. Blue eyes narrow as she closes, probing its defenses and narrowly avoiding a swipe thrown in response. The sprouting of spikes causes her brows to furrow.

"That glow... I recognize it. This golem. It isn't just resistant to spells. It feeds on them! If it touches active magic it grows-----"

Kore is cut off by a massive magicite fist slamming into her and sending her skidding across the cavern. She blunts the force of the blow with a counter kick, but it's enough to bounce her a few times along the ground. And for those who stop to look...


Kore's arm. It glimmers like crystal. The same crystal as the golem. It moves down her arm toward her small hands. At least she gets up.

There is a sudden gust of wind. Can wind blow inside of a mountain? Evidently...if it is a magical wind. Garak's hazy form darts across the chamber, propelled by the wind, and he lays an insubstantial hand on Munch's head. "Serriel's rage be with you," his ghostly voice intones.

Stjepan rushes in at the giant, whalloping it with his greatsword -- flames be damned!

Olek braves the flames as he hacks away at the golem, getting right up into it in the golem's face, metaphorically anyhow, and hacking at the artificial creature with heavy blows, or as heavy as the raging dwarf can manage. The burns are pretty superficial, and after a while they may become serious, for now he's just gritting his teeth and sucking it up.

"I cannot aid them from here," Seldan tells Malik, even as a pair of feathered white wings emerge from his back. He surveys the fight ongoing at the bottom, and abruptly jumps, diving downwards and towards the fight raging below. Instead of landing in the melee, though, he lands with a sure touch at its edge, behind the injured Jotun. Murmuring a litany of prayers intended to induce meditation, he places both hands flat on the Jotun's back, silver light building beneath his hands. It is not a lot, but it is something.

Malik watches as Seldan jumps from the perch, taking off as he spreads his wings. The wizard make a face, shaking his head as he mutters something under his breath in Tsuran -- probably not something one would repeat in polite company. But a whisper of a spell later, and a burst of speed, puts him hovering over the party, bow still in hand as he watches the action.

"Go for eye! Go for throat!" Rhar does! Gurr would, but at least HE realizes that rocks really don't have eyes, or throats, or other soft spots. So he snaps his jaws at rock, instead. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any better fortune than Rhar.

"HEY! Pick on someone your own size!" The now massive Munch moves in, the muscles rippeling with alchemic power. The giant sized Reaver whistles towards that stupid smiling face... and wiffs.

The spiked with ice and blue flame creature lashes out, striking with massive claws across Munch's frame, leaving crystal sealing the gouges in its wake, hardening and leaving Munch's body less flexible than before. It seems its touch spreads magicite everywhere, at least on flesh.

Still, those wounds look rather grievous and there's a flow of magic from /him/ to it, leaving it growing in size. Great.


Munch blinks his magicite eyes with a soft click. "...well, I did literally ask for that..."

Stjepan is now stuck in, and sweeping his greatsword through momentum-conserving big swings. He keeps chopping, though only one of the cuts really seems to find purchase.

Olek crabs over as the golem's attention drifts away from him to others that are doing more damage to it. It's a tough nut to crack, and he focuses on making sure his blows strike true rather than hitting for power. As a result, his blows don't chip away quite so much of the golem, but he's still able to do a bit of damage.

Thinking fast, Seldan takes a step back, and ignores his pounding head for long enough to draw a series of sigils in the air. These, unlike many of his spells, do not glow at all - in fact, they appear to do the reverse of that, and instead of moving in any way as he speaks the final phrase, hang motionless in front of him. Instead, the giant fire shield surrounding the thing dismantles from the golem, seemingly inexorably drawn to those diagrams of power hanging before the paladin/sorcerer. The energy crumbles as it meets the sigils, and both the shield and the sigils are gone in a matter of seconds, leaving Seldan to flash a relieved grin.

Seldan isn't only one doing some quick calculations. Malik gives a quick glance from where he hovers, eyeing distances as he makes a quick, almost convulsive gesture with his hand, tossing something from the back of his nail onto his tongue. Whatever it is causes him to winces, but the magics he works take effect, wrapping around the other adventurers and seeming to guide their limbs faster, easier, time moving somewhat differently around them than for the lumbering monstrosity.

The golem's colors swirl even brighter as it grows severawl feet -- it's reach seems longer, now, as well. It lashes out, striking Rhar twice powerfully and leaving significant crystal in its wake that spreads across her wounds.

It's cracking, however, in places. The colors leak from it in sparks and flows.

Stjepan splits off, circling around the crystal golem in the opposite direction to Olek. He moves as he strikes, one cut per step -- cracking it further, causing little rainbow sparkles to follow his sword!

Olek is glad not to be the focus of its attacks anymore, but he still keeps his shield up, taking advantage of the magical haste and Rhar's tactical skill to bring the hurting to the golem. Or at least as much hurt as he can. Swift blows with his axe, struck one handed, but as strong as the dwarf can manage, relentlessly chip away at the golem's strength.

Seldan will be of little aid to the pure fighters here, he knows, and targeting the thing will a spell will bear no fruit ... but there is yet a means for him to help. He draws another sigil in the air, this one golden-white-silver, and speaks a word to it, stabbing a finger at the rock beneath the golem. The sigil vanishes, and the very rock at the creature's feet gains a slick, silvery coating.


The bigger they are, the harder they fall. The golem slips on the unexpectedly slick rock and slams into the rock at its feet, landing prone.

Malik rears back, once again letting loose a volley of arrows, aiming for the newly formed cracks in the thing's structure. The first drives deep, a fracture spreading like a lightning bolt as the follow-up arrows find their way into the newer cracks, spreading the damage further.

Stjepan sees the golem totter, and follows it down, hammering at it with another cracking blow. Rainbow!

They flare up brilliantly as it sits up and then explode outwards from it, shredding into anyone close to it. While Rhar and Olek are able to dodge the worst of it, Stjepan, Gurr and Munch have ice spikes in their bodies. Burning with magical power.
