  • Summary: It's a rainy day at the Northern Banks of the Tornmawr, but some people are out to fish. Stjepan, Dax, Paenitia, Seyardu and Merek are there. Stjepan is relaxing, Dax sets up and starts drinking, Seyardu and Merek arrive and he starts fishing, while Paenitia is attempting to convince her hippogryph, Ramirez to come back to shore. The peacock-andalusian has decided he will fish also, and has swum out to float around, but is not strong enough to fly or get back against the current. Dax hears his loud noises and mimics them back, which makes the headstrong hippogryph believe he is being challenged. Seyardu swims out, gets a rope and assists Paenitia and Stjepan in pulling the bird-horse back to shore. Once on shore, they must have a tug-of-war, Ramirez vs everyone else. It turns into Stjepan vs everyone else, as the Jotun anchor of the humanoid team yanks them all back so hard they land in a pile, Ramirez on top. Merek swoops in with plates of food, and fish is had.

In the shadow of the great Highbridge, and beneath the guardhouses, a stretch of river has been laid out as a public park and fishing area. Here, the descending landscape of Alexandria folds into the river and crafts a comfortable view. On a typical day, a number of small boats and picnic blankets dot the landscape. To the side, a small shrine to Rada the River Serpent, as well as a dual shrine to Althea and Daeus, in their guise as Mother and Father of the world.

It's a warm day, spoiled by a light rain and a grey sky. A pleasant wind blows from the southeast. The drizzle has kept most of the Alexandrian crowds that would relax here, or fish here, away.

Although the recent night-time fires and rumours of Infernal battles down at the south banks, have shifted those who appreciate the riverside up here. Just in case.

So, it's an average sized crowd filling the fishing area. Each set up with their own space and a far enough from other fishers to afford the pretense of privacy. Of course, some are better than others, and some are louder than others.

Stjepan has a blanket, and a basket, and a bag of what just might be practice swords. They are, however, not in used. He's got a hand-held telescope resting on a leather notebook, also not in hand but rather under his cloak. Instead, he's stretched out on the blanket, hands folded behind his head, eyes heavy-lidded up looking up into the rain.

It looks like Dax is showing up to be just one of a few who are going to be fishing here today. She's got a wooden fishing pole along with string on it and then some kind of pouch that is squirming around. When she sees that there is a couple who just caught a fish, she saunters up to that area. Settling down in front of them and sticking her pole into the ground, a jug of some kind of alcohol, and letting her squirming pouch drop to the ground from a few inches above.

Turning back to the couple she gives them a 'shoo shoo' motion with her hands, and then grins with her upper lip on one side getting a bit bigger, "Now yer jus' gonna have to get outta here. Yer invadin' my space." And she stands there, all 5 feet of her passive anger being used to make this regular couple scramble, taking their stuff, and heading to another portion of the river for fishing.

"No! Ramirez! That is not how to do the Fish!" Imagine a peacock with their typical long tail-train of feathers, a brilliant white except for crimson eyespots. Next, imagine it attempting to fish, like a swan or comorant, diving deep in the water or floating about casually like a boat. Make it horse sized, add a horse-hind that blends with the tail so well it's often overlooked.

Now imagine a rider, one-twentyfifth the size and mass, attempting to stop him. While wearing heavy armour, and a mask, from the shore.

The Red Knight is standing on a rock, to be a little taller than her usual three feet. She stamps her foot. "Ramirez. Come back."

Her hippogryph, the wildly headstrong peacock-andalusian, does not. Instead he calls for his mistress to come in. 'Ruuaaaah!' It echoes up and down the bank. Peacocks are loud, horse-powered peacocks even louder.

Despite how the sith'makar normally acted to those who knew her, Seyardu did not have to force herself to relax this day. Not wishing to return to the south river that day, instead she was at the north beach. Dressed instead in the leathers commonplace in Am'shere than her usual vest and skirt, stretched out on a large towel on the shore and resting despite the gray sky and light rain with her eyes closed. She was given a wide berth however. Word travelled quick, and a silver sith'makar stood out, especially one who may have been involved with events the other day. She looked more tired than usual, her scales duller, eyes slightly sunken. But she sat up a bit, and waved to the small knight.

GAME: Merek rolls survival: (17)+4: 21

Merek has taken the time to put on his casual attire for the city, which is a nice golden and black trim. The man keeps a fishing pole with him while he notices the people. He nods a bit to the sith'makar, then to everyone else. He doesn't seem to recognize anyone all that well aside from Seyardu. He then finds a place to begin the fishing.

The small person, smaller than herself, is getting sass from a weird big bird thing. Dax takes a long look, then lifts up her jug and shakes it, like she is weighing that potent alcohol. Anyone within a few yards of her would be able to easily smell that ether permeating from the jug, but for now she settles it back down on the ground and starts to grunt a bit as she stands. "Oi! You, the small one wit' yer bird of wonder over thar?" She has more a pirate-y cliche accent than, say, a dwarven one, but these days who can tell? She is loud though, and she's starting to stomp-walk her way toward the halfling.

"Do ye need help wranglin' yer ... dinner? Lunch?" Eyes sizing up the halfling, then the bird, "Whatever yer havin', its scarin' the fish away an' we're all gonna need it ta calm down. I'm willin' ta help." She offers a big smile showing teeth.

Stjepan's eyes crack open more fully, and he levers himself up on his elbows. It's very lazy interest, but it's there. Rain dampens his forehead and hair, and he blinks it away as he tries to figure out what jarred him out of his reverie.

The small one with the bird of wonder hears herself called out. Her head turns, she looks around. She is almost as absurd as her mount, wearing a red, wide brimmed hat with one of his gigantic peacock feathers. It trails the ground. Heavy black curls of hair hang past her shoulders, and frame a mask. A metal mask with a stylized man's face in a wide grin, complete with mustache. The rest of her garb is a heavy, well-rusted, kilted breastplate with gauntlets, plus some odd greaves and sabatons that leave her feet bare and her halfing fetlocks free.

She spots the pirate-y one in the interesting bodice with the alcohol smell. "Hola! Ha, he is my mount, not the meal. He must learn to obey. I will make him move!"

Turning, she calls out across the water, "Ramirez! Further Out! Fishhooks are in your feathers! You know they tear them. You will look the mess." This gets through to the bird-brained, bird-horse. 'Ruaaaah!'

He turns and ... horse-paddles further out into the river, almost dragging several fishing poles with him. This will not do. He stops and preens himself free of hooks, slowly drifting away.

It seemed the relaxation was not meant to be, as Ramirez floated out further and further from the shore, and Paenitia likely not wishing to go swimming in full armor and mask. So she sat up, stretched, and walked over to where the lucht-knight, and other woman was.

"Peace on your nest, Paenitia, and you as well." She greeted the two with, her voice slightly hoarse still. "I can go out and recover Ramirez, if you need."

Placing a hand against her forehead, Dax groans and then shakes her head, "That ain't the direction I was tryin' ta get it ta move." She runs her fingers through her tightly braided hair, moving large groupings of strands since they are all caught up together. With a big breath in she lets it out in a huff. "Ruuuuaaaaaah!" She lets out a big loud roarish scream in the horse's direction.

Without waiting to see if the bird brained horse was going to listen to the angrier of the two women, Dax offers a squinty eyed look over the armored short stack of a woman. This takes longer than it should, creating a bit of silence as the redhead is reaching up to scratch at the side of her head, "Are ya performin' or somethin'?" Now she's looking around more curiously, "Is there ta be some kind of circus 'ere? I bet ya got jugglers or somethin' just waiting ta pop outta the ground and start... well, jugglin'. Knives? Fire sticks? Which one it gonna be?"

This line of thinking is drawing a bigger smile on Dax's face as she's getting herself excited, reaching up she palms the underside of her bosom and hefts a few times like she's fluffing a pillow while looking around. When the silver scaled sith-makar comes up to Pae and Dax, Dax grins a bit bigger, "What's yer talent? That one's clearly the comedy, yer maybe... the... juggler?"

Merek keeps fishing, while he takes the time to begin reeling in what he finds. While he does that, he does watch the people and all of the place. He then begins to check on the fish which he will place into a bucket, then he begins to work on it.

'Ruuuaaaaaah!' Ramirez answers out on the water. A challenger! Yes! He calls loudly once more, turning towards the shore. 'Ruaaaaah!'

"Ha ha!" The extravagant looking Lucht tells the other woman, "I am Sister Paenitia Snapdragon del Harana. Knight of the Pillar, and Paladina of Tarien. There is no circus, but you are right. I am Tarien's little joke."

And then Seyardu approaches. The little Lucht greets her happily. Her expression is hidden, as always. "Hola Friend Dragon! If he does not come back for the challenge, then the swimming, yes. That will help."

"Do I look that strange again?" The sith'makar said mostly to themself, looking back to the leathers the were wearing. "I should buy another outfit again, then."

"But no, I am just an acquaintance of Paenitia. If he will not come back, I will bring him back. I am sure that I can out swim a hippogryph in the water, and I would not wish for them to get injured."

Challenge accepted. Though Dax's eyes kind of blank over as the incredibly long name comes out from the little knight. Dax grunts an acknowledgment after a pregnant pause once Pae is done, just to make sure there's no more, before she offers, "Dax." It's one word, one syllable.

With that, though, she looks up to the large bird and she squints her eyes toward it, taking a planted position in the ground. Waving the bird toward her, "Ruuuuuuuaaaaaaah!" She shrieks and prepares to accept the charging bird should it come her way. Dax does glance up to the sith'makar and shakes her head a little bit, "Jus' living in disappointment that the little one ain't no circus performer. What with the mask an' bird an' all."

"You are fine my friend!" Paenitia pats at Seyardu's knee. It's easily accessed at her height, "Your clothes are fine. You do not have the build to wear the leathers Dax wears."

She noticed the glance. She did not have to interpret. Lucht Siuils see many things they instantly forget.

Ramirez turns on the water, horse-paddling towards shore. He is not moving all that fast. The current is drifting him down. There's all the water weight in his tail-train, which is easily fifteen feet long. Flapping his wings help, but they are not strong enough to clear him from the water.

The Peacock-Andalusian is ready to fight however. Another loud squawk. Show yourself!

"Friend Dragon, he need the help. Take the rope on his saddle when you get there so we can pull him in." She looks around. There's a big hombre she recognizes, "Stjepan! We have the tug of war with Ramirez, when Seyardu get the rope. Come help, he need to lose the battle."

Stjepan looks up, and starts gathering himself a little stiffly. It was a nice rest. "Right." He looks to Ramirez, "You're going to need more snacks."

"I was not speaking of more leathers, but of another outfit that would be suiting for this place, that causes less looks." She clarified, looking out to the water. It seems some assistance would be necessary, however.

"I will not be long." She assures, stepping off the bank and into the water, before diving in once it was deep enough. It was no issue for the sith to get out to where Ramirez was, where she popped back up out of the water. "Peace on your nest, Ramirez. I will help you get out of here, so you do not need to exert yourself too much." She says, finding the rope lead and beginning to swim back for the shore.

GAME: Merek rolls profession/cook: (17)+8: 25

Merek will watch the sith'makar assist Ramirez, while he smiles a bit, then he takes the time to begin dressing the fish, "Would anyone like a fish meal while I'm about?" the man asks, then he begins to set up the camp flame, while he takes the time to check the shore, and places a few pieces of meat upon it as well.

The bird horse, thing, with lots of big feathers is still getting some eyeballing from Dax but then she starts to get a little impatient. So, she just stands back up straight, without losing her peripheral on Ramirez. "I do have a build fer sure. Orcs I knew called me a breed'r. Sayin' that's what they call pretty humans. It sounds better in Orcish, really." She offers easily as she looks to the large man who gets up to head toward the ropes.

The sith'makar swimming out, the giant prepping to receive the rope, the bird making noises leaves Dax to just look back to the halfling woman. "So, yer tellin' me that you ride that thing? With it being so ... well, loud an' unlistenin'." Turning her head when there's the offer of free food and Dax raises her gauntlet covered hand up about half-way, "If yer cookin' fish I don't gotta catch, an' yer not trying to sneak no peek nor pinches? I'll have one."

"He is hot blooded now, even the water does not cool him down. The snacks may not be enough." Paenitia tells Stjepan, then yells out to her mount, "Ramirez! Hold the rope, do not bite it."

He squawks back at her. She caws, rrr... calls, "No! The speaking and the holding, they do not dance together. Hold the rope only."

She hears the offer from the man in black and gold, and answers, "Yes. All the fish. My mount is hungry."

"They call you that?" The Dark Lucht asks, sounding amused, then laughing, "We talk about this later. I have the great curiosity."

She waits, ready at the shore, for Seyardu's return.

"Yes. You must show them back at the shore, how strong you are, while remaining in control." Seyardu says to the hippogryph, offering the end of the rope. She swam back to the land, stepping back out and beating some of the water out of the now soaked clothing with her free hand.

"And there we are. Now it is to just help pull them to shore, if I am not mistaken?" She says once back towards the small group that had gathered.

"I ain't a liar, they of course call me such. An' why not? I'm a woman, a good lookin' woman at that!" Dax proclaims to Paenitia, perhaps taking the questioning the wrong direction, "I've got all the things strong fellas like, an' none of the things they don't." Eyeballing now the bird's owner, before she lets out a little huff and shakes her head a bit. "It ain't like everyone can afford a fancy pidgeon to ride around on. Or nice clothes, or the like. We all aren't ... all them things ya called yerself before."

With that done she does take a few steps back towards her little space where she left the jug. She pulls it from the ground, pops the cork from the mouth of the jug and downs some of whatever was inside of it, then puts the cork back in and settles it on the ground. Turning to face the water and the going ons, again, not too far from where she was, she drops to the ground, planting herself hard on her rump and putting her hands up on her knees so she can lean back a bit and not fall backwards.

Merek looks then to Dax and blinks a few times, though he nods while he offers, "Ya, it's food. I don't know about all the other things, all of that." The man then will begin to make plates for all of the people that are about, while he takes the time to put a little bit of spice on it as well!

Stjepan takes up the rope, wrapping his hands around it. Hefting it, he looks at Paenitia. "Ready?"

Paenitia's body is well hidden by her armour. She's female, it confirms that, but she's got a lot of metal overtop of a cloth gambeson, and just about the only skin that shows is through the eye-holes of her mask and the soles of her feet. It's mahogany coloured. She laughs again, "Ha ha! Ramirez was free! I raise him from an egg, that I steal from the gnolls. The armour, this I take from the Iron Baron!"

As the silverscale as reached the shore, and her hippogryph is compliant with her orders to resist biting the rope in half, she stands on a rock right at the edge and picks it up. "Okay! We grab the line. We pull."

"Ramirez, you listen to Friend Dragon. The fight is on shore. Hold and Swim to us."

She faces the others, her mask still in a wide grin, nods at Stjepan, "Yes!"

At least there was that, the conversation about how Paenitia got her armor and the bird. "Well, stealin' ain't a thing that should be done..." She starts off, a little taken aback, and certainly more calm. She's not... yelling. Waiting, though, she watches as the bird is being lightly wrestled to shore via a rope and 3 people managing it all.

"So, wha' yer sayin', is that I need ta find myself an Iron Baron, an' steal some armor from them. Does it all look as bad as what ya have on? I ain't mean no offense or nothin'... jus', it took a long time fer my tattoo, an' well, I don't like ta squish inta things that ain't gonna show off that squishin'. What's the point of that?" She is scratching at the side of her head though, making her braided red hair bounce a bit on that side with the action.

"Do ya think it comes in a more feminine design? Are all barons so, wrapped? Fergive me, I ain't never met a baron. Well, none that I was aware of bein' a baron at the time. I suppose they could go about masqueradin' - but I ain't never seen no one ridin' a big bird in all my life." Dax takes another swig from her jug, "Maybe you an' I can go find us a baron to steal from? Ya look like ya could need the help more'n me." More to herself she mutters, "Who'd of thought barons were fat wit' fancy armors and birds an' things?"

Seyardu has two hands on the rope, helping to pull the hippogryph onto land. It takes a moment for her to get a decent grip, and it is still slightly shaky. "If they came from a gnoll, I doubt they had good intentions for the egg. Though I do not know about stealing armor from barons." She says in a pause to rest from the work."

"It is armor, I suppose, it does not look bad. It is made to protect at the end of the day, and I have seen it in use, the protection seems quite effective."

"Pull!" Paenitia yells cheerfully, setting her feet on the stone and hauling away. She's well anchored at least, her armour must add something significant to her weight. "He oppress the common people. He trap them with laws and nonsense. He steal from them, their livelihood, their lives."

"PULL!" The Red Knight rapidly grabs ahead on the rope, then throws herself back with arms locked. "He have soldiers big sized and right sized. The armour from one of his men." Ahem, "Women! Himself, he the big triangle of muscle."

"Puu..ULL!" The Dark Lucht rapidly grasps, forward again, back again, "Ramirez have the same love of justice as I. He is the hot blooded man of Isobar! He fight, and we fly, together through the wind canyons. I look for allies. For adventure and for honour!"

She may not be strong, but she is enthusiastic, and has a powerful set of lungs for a Lucht Siuil.

Seyardu was strong enough, while not the tallest of her kind, they were still muscular as most seemed to be. Another pull, and with the help of the giantborn, it was not too much trouble to pull the hippogryph onto the land. Though she still strains slightly with the pulling, in a way one might when their muscles are weakened.

"They sound like a bad person, it seems as if you have poor dealings with nobles often, Paenitia. I do not have any good stories to share of them yet, though I hope there are good ones, like among any other sort of person."

There's just confusion on Dax's face, furrowed brow and all, so she swigs more of her drink while watching all the folks coordinate the rope pulling. This does put a smile on her lips though as she chuckles at the multiple shouts of 'pull' from the little woman and strange mask. "It ain't but on the sea that there's freedom little knight. Everyone is oppressed if they ain't livin' on the open waves. There's rules here, like I'm sure they have. If ya don't like 'em, get big an' strong, stab the feller" a pause as she dips her head in acknowledgment, "Or lady who's at the top. Then change'm."

With another quick nod to the silver scaled woman, Dax offers, "Armor, that it is, an' I'm sure it protects as well against wanderin' blades as it does wanderin' eyes. Too much fer me, though."

Looking between the two women working, as she herself is just sitting on the ground, "Good show, ya got yer Ramirez in. I've met a lot of nobles, or at least folks I'd consider nobles. Fancy, rich, witches, all the kinds. All of them ain't got an understanding of how to do anything but piss on some folk or the other from behind a smile. Wish I had tha' kind of gold."

With Stjepan anchoring the team, it's only a matter of time before the hippogryph is floated towards the shore. He walks through the shallows, avoiding the fishooks of the other fishermen. Mostly by luck, although the rope was well placed. Water streams off him as he climbs ashore.

Paenitia could walk right under him, hat and all. She pats at an avian foreleg. "Yes. You are good! The swim has tire you out?"

'Ruaaah!' No. He still wants to fight. Yes.

The Dark Lucht pulls on the foreleg, waking him forwards, commenting, "The armour keep the skin free of scars. And life is too short to live as slave. Do not like the rules, break them. This I agree, but always act with honour. This is my vow."

Ramirez snuffles at Paenitia's hat, chewing the rim which must have some metal in it. "Okay. We do the rope for you. Then you eat fish, watch me fish. Yes?"

They have an understanding.

Merek looks to the party and will begin to place the plates about for the people. When they're back along to shore they will need to eat!

Standing up, once the bird mount is back on shore and out of the water, Dax claps a few loud times, "This was great. Yer all better'n a show or circus." She smiles, and claps a few more times. There's no mocking tone in her voice but she does get distracted by a plate with cooked fish being brought her way. "Thank ye, mister. Ain't every day ye find someone willin' ta share their food fer nothin'."

Not yet taking the food to devour it, she does start walking in the direction of the bird and its rider, "I saw a man ride an air beast once, wit' feathers an' all." Then she's up closer, "Do ya all still need help?"

"Yes." Paenitia says happily, turning her grinning mask in Dax's direction. "He must win or lose, and then he get the fish."

She looks at the team, "Ready. Pull!" She pulls.

Her bare feet slide on the grass. Her sabatons tear it up, which isn't helping. It's wet, slippery. Her efforts are ineffective.

The sith makar was not ready. Still damp from the swim, her hands having trouble finding purchase on the robe. And then the rope was yanked. Her footing came out completely from underneath her, the silver sith'makar dangling from the rope and dragged along for a moment against the ground as she let out a dissapointed puff of air.

"A moment!" She said loudly as she struggles to find purchase again.

The Jotun winds the rope around his forearms. Takes a good grip. As the anchor, he's not going anywhere. With a solid yank he pulls everyone towards him. Silverscale, little lucht, big bird-horse. He's a giant. There's no contest. He laughs, "Okay, get your feet under you."

Dax comes in to help the others, she's really aiding those who are attempting to pull on this bird's existence and keep it down. She's not sure where to get the grip going, but wraps the rope a bit around her leather vambrace for a better spot that won't cause rope burn. Then she turns and starts working her way backwards, grunting, digging feet into soft ground. Though it likely would've helped if she waited till everyone was pulling.

Paenitia is having issue with purchase. When the rope goes taut she's lifted off the ground. She's serving more as a red flag than a puller. She's determined to help. Instead of holding onto the rope, she approaches Seyarud, "Friend dragon, can I pull your tail or push your legs?"

A bit rude. Perhaps a lot rude. Very forward at least. She's makes light of it, "The allies have to fight very close at times. It is good practice."

Despite her grinning mask, she seems serious.

Seyardu was already scrambling to find purchase on the ground, but the loos soil, but clawed feet almost acted like a plow through it, leaving the sith'makar struggling to regain her footing. It was certainly an awkward looking attempt, but she just chuckles and shakes her head.

"Please do not pull on my tail, it would be quite painful. If you cannot reach the rope, then helping keep me from being pulled back is good, since I am clearly not doing the best." She says weakly.

Paenitia nods, "Okay. I do that!" She is in front of Seyardu, pushing on her knees, digging her toes in on the grass. She's surprisingly good at preventing her from moving forward.

Ramirez meanwhile, hits some of the churned earth, and his front talons are even worse with the wet ground than the Sith'makar's claws. He's backpedalling also. 'Ruuuu?' This shouldn't be happening.

Dax has the rope over her shoulder and is just pulling, as hard as she can. Though, it seems like she's just digging like everyone else. "This bird is a beast, fer sure!" She offers in a loud groaning voice as she heaves in deep, and then tries to pull even harder. Though she's not looking behind her where the bird is, she's just trying to, essentially, run into the sith'makar's direction with strong legs albeit nothing compared to the jotun.

Finally it's Stjepan who breaks the slippery tie, giving one more solid yank that hauls all participants into a pile. Ramirez flops forward, getting muddy, and with the wet grass, sliding forward to bowl over Dax. She's engulfed in wet, white feathers. Paenitia pushes so hard on the Sith's legs that when she moves the Red Knight falls flat in the mud too. If the Sith'makar remains standing it will be a wonder.

"Ole!" Paenitia calls out loudly, mask first in the mud.

Merek is ready at the sidelines with the plates of food.

GAME: Seyardu rolls 1d20: (16): 16

The sith'makar, combined with everything else that had happened, the fully armored lucht pushing on her legs, the hippogryph losing their footing was the last straw. Paenitia took the sith'makars feet out from right under them, and Seyardu falls over them, grumbling just a bit.

Tumbling forward, Dax didn't expect the bird to come with her, but there she is... getting a heavy beast toppling over her in the last few moments. She's laying there, hard to breathe, groaning, and then notices... ah, her fish. She reaches out and grabs that, starting to bite chunks from it, might as well make this a useful time while laying on the ground, until folks help get the bird up and off of her.

Seyardu takes a plate of fish too!

As does Paenitia.

And Stjepan. Stjepan takes a lot of fish.

But the most are taken by Ramirez.

Fade to Fish.

<OOC> Paenitia says, "so if you wanted, round 1, we can roll separately and round 2, can do aid another, and Ramirez will roll against both in round 1,and the highest CMD in round 2, and we can assume Stjepan wins all the time because he's a jotun. :) I think it's just me and Seyardu, so make a +roll CMB, Ramirez's is 20+4 for 4 legs for the pulls."
