  • Summary: The Explorer's Guild is sponsoring another training session in the Colosseum. Lars the Charming Bard, Platinum Member and Expert Instructor will be on hand to show new adventurers the ropes and the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. The challenge is to take a tower defended, and there are some direct assault and stealth options available. All are good, all are chosen, and the party both rushes the front doors, sneak around the back, and find secret tunnels underneath. Zofija's mount, Screech, is felled by arrows and Kard is downed once the door is breached. The party presses the assault, managing to disable all fighters and successfully capture the tower.

Crafted largely of stone, the Colosseum sits heavily in the midst of the district. Effectively a giant arena, seats form its sweeping sides like the forefront of a great stage. At its center is a stained, stone floor. Each end is overseen by the opposing statues of Kor and Angoron, their arms raised and each holding weapons in gestures of triumph. Staged at a crossroads, their stone gazes stand in eternal challenge over the battlefield floor. Angoron's statue appears to have something of a smirk, opposing Kor's dreadful scowl.

Construction here is on the massive scale. The Arena's stone form was carried piece by piece from the Redridge. Borne on the shoulders of ancient oruch and formed by the tireless hands of the khazad, it is second to none in ancient craftsmanship. Old tribal and clan symbols, nearly worn away, reveal themselves when blood and sweat pools in their minor crevices. Their unusual display brings to life, if only for moments, memories of warrior traditions past. It is for this reason the Arena serves as a diplomatic grounds for some cultures, as well as sport and competition.

Beneath the arena's stage are preparation rooms for competitors, and retiring areas for the wounded. Here, warriors are tended to by aids and medics, by coaches and priests. Tarianic laughter echoes from the chambers on the Angorite side. These unseen areas run alongside a cleverly, khazad-designed system to flood the arena's floor for certain performances. When flooded, the arena draws waters from the nearby Tornmawr. During these occasions anything is possible, as even the Nar-Sektoth have been known to visit from far off Am'shere, and display their powers beneath the gods' banners.

The encircling seats provide a grand view, while vendors often walk the aisle ways between, selling food or taking bets. Clear as blood is the single, red line drawn down the arena's center between the twin statues, daring an opponent to cross.

Adventurers have a bit of a reputation in Alexandria.

The Explorer's Guild is making an effort to address this. The particular point they are working on today is their members' familiarity with each other and working as a team. They've arranged for a short combat course in the Colosseum, a meet and greet with live weapons.

What could go wrong?

A small wooden structure has been erected. Waiting out front is a sandy-haired human, on the dirty blond side. He wears leather armour with some flashy sashes and a cape. He waves, "Hello! Welcome students. I'm Lars. Why don't you introduce yourselves and... uh... one thing you hope to learn."

He smiles and one of his teeth glints in the afternoon sun.

Rocky chuffs quietly. Lars... Lars... he's heard that name somewhere... oh, right, the guy leading this thing. Of course he heard of who's in charge. Obviously. Glancing to the others, the greyscale shrugs. "This one is called Rocky. Hope to learn what others need shielded, and what other can shield self."

Kard, who is never seen without helmet and spiked armor cuts a recognizable figure. He is new though, which may explain why he so quickly steps forward and does exactly as instructed. "I am Kard the ... Explorer." That's what you call a member of the Explorer's guild, right? "I would like to learn the weak points and strategies commonly employed to defeat undead. Other than holy water. Drinking holy water has no effect on my fighting skill against those for some reason."

As a relative newcomer to the Explorer's Guild, Taran was more than happy to sign up for the course but upon arrival, walking into the arena such as it is, looks around to see just how populated the stands might be, if at all. "Well, not what I was expecting." He voices in a rather smooth and smoky deep baritone, "I thought it would be more a bit of a social gathering... meet and greet." A chuckle follows.

Moving over towards the sandy haired human that is their instructor, Taran unslings the rather stupidly large hammer off his shoulder and thumps it into the ground so he can lean lightly against it. "Taran." The flame haired Giantborn introduces himself. "I'm hoping to learn about my fellows, not any specific thing."

A massive work of artifice has been lumbering in a wide circuit, crashing and clattering around in deliberate laps like a wargolem runner practicing for an exhibition. The armor is masterfully-crafted (if a bit patchwork) and covered with exposed tubes, long threads of copper inlay, and set with dull aetherite crystals. Its wide domed helmet is down, like a massive steel punchbowl overturned with eye slits cut into it.

The final lap resolves as the call to assemble comes, the stomping slowing as heavily-armored boots clamor to a halt amid a rising cloud of red-brown dust. Panting echoes from inside the helmet and the whole contraption bends forward with massive titan fists resting on the reinforced poleyns.

"I swear this thing is getting heavier..." Robert complains between ragged breaths, forcing himself to stand back up. The bowl-helm is pushed up and back and he produces a waterskin from his hip pack, squeezing a cool drink messily at his face. Little blue arcs of arcane energies spzzt and sprk and grt around the gorget.

The Cerenzan's hair looks even thinner soaked with sweat and he's got little bags under his eyes. He stops panting long enough to swallow, smile, and wave. "Bob," he offers simply along with a familiar nod to Kard and Zofi.

The sandy fields of the colosseum were an excellent place to train, for so many martially inclined minds.

And if they were paying you to train there? Even better. From where the mounts were prepared the gates are pushed open, and out strides a large brown griffon, with an Arvek-nar in full uniform atop. The bird-lion stops near where the others were gathering. "Well, there's only so much you can learn standing around and talking." She grunts, adjusting her hat some. "That's why they have us actually doing drills and the like. Best way to learn, really."

When Kard speaks again, it is in an even lower register. Like he's competing to match Taran's baritone. He returrn Robert's nod though. "Bob." He says. His own armor is unlikely to have been crafted by him. His gaze lingers on what Robert has though, wondering which parts he can inquire about later and hope to understand.

"Wow you're a biggun," Lars says, involuntarily taking a step back as the hammer hits the ground. He looks momentarily thoughtful, then grins widely, "I know just the woman for you. Talk to me after class."

Turning to Kard, the instructor takes a moment to examining his gear and spikes. "Well, Undead are a more advanced class and it takes a ... biiit... of effort to get them. So, we won't be engaging undead today, but I'll note there's interest."

Rocky gets a salute in the form of a chest thump, "Peace on your Nest."

Lars examines Robert next, nodding in approval, "Interesting choice. I like the tubes."

"Exactly!" The man says as Zofija arrives, "that's an impressive mount. Well, welcome all."

"So, your task is to take that tower." He points at the wooden structure behind him, "There are a few options, a direct assault, some stealth options, there might even be a back door! You have a moment to organize yourselves, and once you step across the line they'll start shooting."

There's a line. A red line. There's also a few odd looking bushes.

GAME: Robert rolls Knowledge/Military Theory: (20)+10: 30
GAME: Zofija rolls knowledge/military theory: (1)+7: 8 (EPIC FAIL)

Of all the things Taran might have been expecting to see at this social gathering, a griffon was not one of them. Even more so than Robert's mechanical contraption which had done a fine job of distracting him as well. It's enough to even make the wry amused smile at Kard's tonal change slip from his lips into an open look of surprise as his red eyebrows climb up his dark forehead towards his hair line.

After a moment he looks over towards Lars, "Mmmmm." He murmurs at the mention of just the lady, but his attention shifts to the tower. "Smart move would be to /not/ assault in the middle of the day with clean and unobstructed fields of fire." He chuckles, "Just a thought." Picking up the hammer he slings it up against his shoulder and there's the soft clink of the chain shirt hidden beneath his tunic, so he isn't completely unarmored it seems. "Take control of it." He smoothly rumbles to Rocky, "So I imagine."

Kard has tubes too. He tucks his gloved hands into his gauntlets. "Control, not destroy. There is no obstructed sightline, and we don't know the defenders. Resources? I can carry a lot and I'm armored enough to play decoy." He is definitely lowering his voice to match Taran's vocal inflection. "Scouting?"

The tower structure is flimsy. The bushes would provide decent cover, and their location suggests there might be trap doors to get under the colosseum floor. Up near the tower, the terrain is a lot rougher.

The big Cerenzan has another drink of water before corking the skin and putting it back into his pack. "Capture, yes... my goodness this takes me back," Bob laughs, obviously amused. "The shrubs should offer some cover if we can move between them. They appear to be over some trap doors that may lead beneath the main floor of the arena and afford a stealthier entry... though I'm not certain how adept any of us might be at infiltration."

The artificer flexes his fists, raising one oversized and articulated gauntlet to point out the terrain before and beside the tower. "The ground is tossed up; it's loose and mixed with rocks and gravel to slow us down..."

"Yeah, I wouldn't raid a sturdy looking tower in the middle of the day, that's just asking to be made into a pincushion." Zofija nods. "But, sometimes if that's what they ask you to do, you aren't in the place to argue, you know? So if they say take the tower you just have to do it, once you've got a plan. So, we break down the doors before they have a chance to fire too much, and deal with the people inside. Seems easy enough."

GAME: Kard rolls perception: (14)+6: 20

At the top of the tower, peering between the crenelations are two shadows.

Rocky ahs, understanding now, and draws his shield and blade, the later big enough for two hands, but held in one. "This one is well shielded. Many try draw blood, few succeed." There was the time he died, but that's a tale for later. "Ready charge, endure, overwhelm, victory." Simple plan. Straightforeward. Easy to remember. But likely not the best.

Kard uses the butt of his spear to make an impromptu map on the ground. "We are forced to approach from one side, but we spread out, move in unison. Take position behind the shrubs here and here. Count of six, move again."

"Sometimes there isn't an option, like there's lava or something." Lars shrugs.

Taran looks at the others, "Well," He rumbles, "Distract them a bit, but don't get pincushioned. Just give me a chance to slip over there and see if they've got a door in the back." He grins broadly with an amused smile, "If I can get in and distract them, give all of you a chance to get to the front door without getting big rocks and burning oil dropped on your head maybe."

"Well, whenever you're ready." Lars smiles, his teeth glinting again, and steps away, "first one to step across starts the engagement."

"I'm armored, not quick. Fastest takes the closest shrub. Doesn't look like enough room for more than one per shrub, two if you take good cover." Kard says, he'd be more convincing if he weren't shifting octaves mid sentence. "First to the door makes a hole. Second provides cover with their shield. If we threaten the door, they won't look for the big guy, but there are two of them, so don't draw too much attention to yourself." Kard warns.

Rocky is a quarter ton of armored lizard. That's not the typical letters in 'distraction', but still spells it out.

Kard says, "Farthest shrub. Bob, you can have that one. Rocky, no offense, but you'll take fire the best. You lead."

GAME: Cryosanthia rolls 1d20: (11): 11 (Caltrops Attack)

Things crunch under the granite-scale's feet.

As the plan to all move as one quickly goes out the window, Taran chuckles and he starts to run, cloak fluttering over his shoulder as his long legs eat up the ground and he tramples over the rocky ground just before them. Once he gets clear of it he puts on the speed and then skids to a stop behind one of the shrubs as he starts to make his way towards a corner of the tower they're 'taking', and most definitely not charging the door.

Rocky charges forward. Though not the fastest, especially weighed down by his armor, the heavy lizard is still fairly quick, covering a fair bit of ground. Ground that crunches oddly beneath his feet.

Kard bursts into a run. His speed isn't reduced by his armor, possibly just because he seems to be missing all the bits below the waist. With his hands in his gauntlets he posts up behind a shrub, at least part of the plan was effective, the fact that no one shot at them has him actually nervous though. "Sally forth." He shouts in a deep bass voice. He's what is called a wandering tenor, very rare, bards hate him. "Watch for traps at the door!" The lack of covering fire doesn't mean they don't have archers, but it strongly implies that the defenders took a different tack.

<OOC> Zofija says, "Double moving to beside the doors since I'm on them"
GAME: Cryosanthia rolls 1d20: (1): 1 (EPIC FAIL) (Caltrops attack on Screech)

The ground crunches under Screech's paws.

"Well, I can't fit Screech through those bushes, so front door it is." Zofija grunts, shouldering her hammer and spurring the griffon to bound towards the door as quick as could be mustered. "Hey, watch it!" She shouts up the tower when she sees the arrows coming down. "Well, watch your step. Ground is unstable here." She warns the others as she guides the mount around some of the cracking ground.

Robert is an old man. Well, really, not THAT old but he has been around awhile. Exploiting every tactical advantage is a lesson that he learned early on-- back in his Dragonieri officer corps days-- and it's stuck with him in the decades since.

The domed helmet is down and he comes crashing across the line, slow to start in the wake of the other, more youthful combatants. He kneels behind the brush and sets to work around the seam he quickly locates. He lifts a pin that sets slack the tripwire and opens up the trapdoor. Success!

Kard moves without the experience of a trained soldier. Instead he scurries like he can avoid attention from above. The cracking blue energy that flashes around his torso may provide the protection his movement does not. However, he yelps and curses in a high-pitched voice when he sets foot on the rough terrain by the door. "Dammit! Spikes by the door." He limps on one foot and thumps the butt of his spear on the ground. "You could have told me about the caltrops." He complains to Rocky.

Rocky blinks at Kard, and glanes to the ground. "...oh. Hey. Um... get stronger feet?"

Rocky checks for traps fighter style. Which is to say he slams into the door with his shoulder. But the broken ground shifts beneath his feet, and the warrior gets little force behind his effort.

<OOC> Taran says, "double move wide of the rough terrain to swing left to x6, y1 to the back of the tower."

While the distractions be distracting, I mean there's a GRIFFON and a huge dragon guy... right at their front door, and a dude trying to have his voice be deeper than it oughta be. That's distracting right? Taran makes use of the distraction.

He tears off to the side of the tower and bolts to the left. The giantborn runs with his cloak and hair streaming behind him, not trying to be stealthy just using speed to get hopefully out of the line of fire as he rounds around the back of the tower.

Catching his breath Taran smiles, "Now, let's see if there's a door, and I can get in before they smash the gate."

When they reach the door, more of the arrows come down, and the Cavalier attempts to navigate out of the way, but finds the unstable ground too difficult to maneuver, and her mount is hit by them.

Zofija is sent tumbling off, and she's moving just as quickly to kneel down by the side of her mount. That was a lot of bleeding, too much to staunch quickly. The Arvek-nar looks up at the tower. "OI, YOU FUCKERS USING SHARPENED ARROWHEADS? WHO THE HELL SET UP THIS TRAINING EXCERCISE? WHEN THIS DOOR IS DOWN, I'M COMING UP THERE AND SHOVING THIS 'TRAINING ARROW' UP YOU, SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT!" Kard says, "MY feet are not detachable." Kard points out. "I'll be happy to take yours if you are offering." He looks over the door, looking for a weak point in the device that he might disable. He has a metal shaft on his spear that might serve as a lever if there is space to wedge it into the door somewhere. Two arrows find their way through both his shield and his armor. He isn't going to last long if he doesn't get indoors soon. He notes the arrow sticking out of one of his tall boots. "These feet are clearly defective.""

"It did say 'live weapons'," Lars chuckles from the side, grinning. That tooth glinting in the sun, "If you want to tap out your mount, we have healers on standby."

Healers are standing by.

Robert takes note of the tower's relative distance and frowns at Zofi's predicament, grumbling something to himself that's lost in the reverberations of his helmet. Dropping down into the tunnel, he ducks his head and sprints down not even pausing when he feels the tripwire snap against his shin. The subsequent pinch in his calf is worrisome as is the numbness pouring out. The Cerenzan grits his teeth and steams on, bracing against the far well and looking up.

Kard shoves his hands into his over-sized gauntlets. The meaty titan fists come alive, fingers mimicking human motion and fluid pumping from the armored carapace to the gloves and back out again. Their incongruous dimensions imply a supernatural strength to the wielder, the forearms of an ogre attached to the torso of a human being.

Kard's hands shake slightly, from pain or exertion when he raises the butt of his axe and aims for a knot in the wood that he thinks he can strike through to create leverage inside the door. The armor comes to life, hoses chugging into action as 'something' passes from the bulky back to the gauntletted fists. The feedback is too much however and instead of giving him increased control it drastically increases his blood pressure. The wounds he has taken briefly fountain like a sprinkler around him.

Since they were so kind as to put a big 'S' on it, it's rather easy to spot. Approaching the door he scans it quickly and spots the trap rather easily. He pulls out his tools from a belt pouch and quickly gets to work.

A little tiny bit of tension, a press of some gum arabic, a snip, and he's quietly opening the door and peeking inside. Spotting the other guy through the crack in the door he's opened Taran pockets the tools and reaches for the haft of his hammer. Preparing to enter... but not yet.

There is a bar holding the door closed closed. One of the doors is a bit cracked.

Once someone starts smashing things, other tactics go by the wayside. Kard will wind up and smash the door with those heavy fists. The blood spurting from his legs has slowed again to a trickle, staunched by the arrows still in his legs as they were before his circulatory system went briefly into overdrive. However, not willing to expose himself to more arrow fire, he flattens his body against the wall and swings awkwardly. Hopefully the sheer mass of the titan fists will be enough to help shatter the door.

His foot's asleep! Maybe the armor straps are pinching it. Or maybe he really is getting old and his humors are going out of whack. It's not spreading though... so that's good!

Robert looks through the eyeslits of his helmet and finds the familiar tripwire for the third time. Disarms it correctly for the second time. Then he pushes open the hatch and climbs out. He clambers towards the door and prepares to lift the bar...

When he spots the Mecha-Bob come up from a trap door in the bottom of the floor of the tower, Taran thinks, .oO( That's not very sporting, who would make it that easy to break into their tower? ) and then starts to move in. With Mecha-Bob at the door (And hopefully distracting the guy who is watching the door), he moves stealthily around the edge and along the wall towards the stairs.

When he reaches the stairs Taran looks carefully up the stairs and does his best to stay out of sight as he approaches the man down on the bottom floor. Hefting that huge hammer, Taran swings it hard at first to make sure it's going to hit, but he chokes up on the impact.

Thump.

Love-Tap.

"All fun and games right?" Taran rumbles to the man, perhaps expecting him to take a knee after getting snuck up on and whammered.

"AHH! They're inside the Keep! Get down here." The dervish doorguard shouts after he's knocked into the door.

On the roof, the archer drops his bow, drawing his blade. Before he drops down out of sight, he shouts, "I was aiming for a wing and you dodged him into it. Sorry about that. Healers should take care of him."

"You're next," The man inside says, glaring at Zofija even as he steps up and swings at the artificer. The artificer named Robert. His falchion rings off the cerenzan's armour, but still finds an opening and cuts.

Footsteps on the stairs announce another joining the combat, and a whoosh of air accompanies his swing, which misses the giantborn.

The aging artificer is hidden inside his shell of artifice but he's starting to leak through the various joints in the armor, staining them red. The door bursts open and he grunts in satisfaction, sidling back as he rolls his shoulders and the elaborate pauldrons atop. The aetherite comes to life, blue crystals all across the armor glowing furiously as the copper wires turn red-hot. Steam vents behind him with an explosive hiss and the air takes in a tingly scent.

"Ground floor's contested," he observes, voice echoing hollow from inside the domed helmet.

A soft crackling and another brief psst of steam has him backhanding one of the armed assailants, battering him brutally from his blindside. The other shot comes in awkwardly when a joint locks up at the most inopportune time.

With the front door coming down and the rest of the adventurer's coming in, Taran looks around and then makes some space. Moving away from the one he first engaged, he steps to the side just enough to put the poor unfortunate dervish between himself and Rocky.

With a surprisingly light step, Taran then brings the hammer up and around before slamming it into the man's side with a meaty THUNK of impact, "Or, you can just fall down. Less tiring than breaking your blades on him." The big man even tosses his fire mane of hair with a wink, like it was some sort of shampoo commercial.

"This city is mad," Robert balks from inside his helmet, swimming in the smell of ozone as the armored plates begin to glow around the copper conductors. More and more the aetherite crystals are giving off sparks and arcing across the metal settings. "You practice with PRACTICE WEAPONS!" he growls.

The first titan fist comes across and down, battering the guard with an open-gauntleted slap to his back the blasts the winds from his lungs and sends him crumpling, attempting to gasp out his desire to 'yield' even as he falls unconscious. The Cerenzan pivots, closing his other fist and jamming it in a palm-up jab to stagger the other nimble combatant.

Then he's stepping away from the fight, running his hands over the gadgets around his waist. "Help the other boys," he suggests for Zofija, "I'll get Kard patched up."

Robert takes a quick step over to Kard's prone form, pulling a cylinder decorated with a cogwheel off of his belt. It looks ridiculous in his oversized fist but he manages to manipulate the contraption with practiced ease. The base of the cylinder finds the younger man's neck and the Cerenzan spins the wheel.

The clicking of the cogwheel is replaced by a *PSSSH* and the glow of positive energy bleeds out from the base of the contraption and does its healing work. The doodad itself crumbles into ash. "Muse' grace, brother-in-arms," Bob grins.

Not that you can see it with the helmet on or anything.

GAME: Rocky rolls diplomacy: (14)+3: 17

Rocky nods at the blows, but barely flinches, trusting his armor. "You have done well, but now are out numbered and overwhelmed. Yield, and save yourself some pain."

Kard doesn't know who he has to thank for his return to consciousness, or at least conscious control of his body. He takes a moment to orient himself and then he digs a trough through the dirt pulling himself into the room and resting himself against the remains of the busted door. He shifts the orientation of the hoses in his gauntlets, which shudder to a halt once they lose suction. In the new configuration, the gauntlets form one single cannon with a hungry looking opening.

GAME: Taran rolls Diplomacy: (9)+8: 17

Taran moves over to flank the last man on yet another side, leaving him even less ways to escape. He readies the hammer but doesn't take a swing, "He's right. You can't take us all down before we put you down in this situation sir. We've taken the tower."

CleaveLand looks around, at the sith'makar in front of him, the Jotun behind, and the others in the room. "Yeaaaaah. You're right. You got the exits covered, you've taken the tower. I could drop down the hole and sneak out the passage."

Another look, "Maaaaybe... but yeah. I yield." He drops his greatsword. He calls outside, "they've taken the tower!"

Kard manages to sound weakly disappointed in the surrender. He pulls the trigger on his deathray anyway. Fortunately, the only thing that comes out is a sticky mess of what passes for tanglefoot juice. "Ooops." He says quietly. The tanglefoot is harmless, but smelly and will take a bit to clear off a body.

Rocky chuffs happily, wipes off and sheathes his blade, and extends a hand to CleaveLand. "This One is serious. Well done. My shield is not amor is not perfect, but is strong. Few have been able to pass it." He then looks to the injured, not a healer, but a hand rady to assist where it can.

Clap! Clap! Clap! Applause approaches. It's Lars, striding up and grinning. He stops just at the edge of the broken ground, foot hovering over the gravel... and hidden caltrops. "Congratulations! Good! Good! Good job all. I hope you learned something."

CleaveLand takes Rocky's hand, shaking it firmly with a grin, "are you made of cast iron? I'm impressed too."

With the tower taken, Taran smiles, "Good choice." He rumbles smoothly but he looks over towards Kard, "Put a lot of faith in your healers don't you." He says with a slight frown, walking over to Kard and reaching down to help him up if he wishes the assistance.

Taran looks at Lars and smiles wryly, "A few things. Like..." But his voice trails off and he doesn't complete that sentence, "Now, tell me about this Lady you spoke of earlier." He straightens his clothing.

Being top heavy, it's easier to fall over than to stand up. Kard removes his hands from his gauntlets and takes Taran's offered help to his feet. "Yes. I..." The healers approaching and doesn't say anything while they take care of him. "Thank you." He says, with enough manners to not be rude, but not enough feeling to seem genuine.

"What, you're all giving up? Only happy dishing out bloody wounds, not taking them? I'm not even drawing blood." Zofija grunts. Still, she doesn't move to strike anymore, and even puts away her hammer. "Yeah, learned a lot. Learned not to trust you with any live weapon exercises, since usually you know, that means fighting not to kill someone." She continues with a glare to the man.

"Her name's Thurid, she's a Warrior of Angoron. Impressive woman, saw her hold back a rock the size of that statue's head." Lars points at one overseeing the fighting field. It's insane, if it's true. "Champion of StoneTalon too. You'll find her at the Mountain's temple."

He rubs at his mouth, "Ahhh... don't tell her I sent you."

Rocky taps a clawed finger on the skin of his face. "Is called Iron Hide. All of the People have hard skin. but some are more than others. And magic ring is big help."

Once the healers are through with him, Kard is tired but excited. "When are we going again?" He lowers his voice and says: "I mean, that was enjoyable. I'll do better on the next one."

"The boys are down, and while I think highly of myself, five on one isn't winnable." Cleaveland says, looking at Zofija. "Sometimes the enemy yields the field. Take that into account."

Lars meanwhile, shows empty hands to Zofija and grins. Somehow it's not an appeasing grin.

The promoter inclines his head towards Kard, "Well, how would you feel about being defense next?"

"I have some ideas." Kard says. "Boiling oil is probably a bit much. What about tar and feathers?"

"For some reason I don't think she'd be impressed with me if she could do all that." Taran says with a wry smile, "But I won't tell her." He looks over at Zofija and then asks, "Why not use blunted arrows though?" He rests his maul against his shoulder, looking curiously at Lars and Cleveland.

As others begin to talk of other topics Taran wanders over towards Zofiji, "I hope your companion is ok." He says honestly.

Serene steps into the scenario area, doing a quick survey to identify the participants. She doesn't seem particularly concerned; that is to say, her stern countenance doesn't seem any harder or grimmer than usual, and her pace is brisk as she steps into the midst of the victorious and defeated. "If you would have your injuries tended, gather about.. I will tend to them." She comes to a stop near Zojifa and her winged steed.

Kard doesn't approach Serene, for whatever reason. His injuries were mitigated perhaps. He does watch long enough to find out who she is.

"That's not the gods damned point, and you know that. Of course I know people yield. I also know that people don't shoot real arrows at people they aren't trying to kill. So I should treat you as an enemy." Zofija grunts. "If the healers are capable here, and I hope they are, then they should be fine."

The Arvek-nar passes by the man, resisting an urge to punch him in his insincere smile and sincerely knock a couple teeth loose, and instead she busies herself by standing uselessly by the fallen Griffon. "I'm fine, Screech here took the worst of it, arrow to the neck. But Kard there, think that's their name, they got hurt the worst out of the people."

"Well..." Lars exhales, "This was a while ago, years ago. Alexandria was beset by the Azure Queen. It was before my time, so I'm not sure about all the details, but the Blue Bitch was a demon that tweaked people's emotions."

"Turned little disagreements into screaming matches, sparing into mortal combat. One of the city's mages replaced all the Arena weapons with Merciful. Weapons that can't be lethal."

"Everyone got used to fighting with them, and we didn't have as many healer's on hand. But, it was a long time ago, lot of weapons replaced since then, many people use their own." He shrugs again, "so it's not safe to rely on the weapons always being non-lethal, so we increased the healers again."

The man gazes at Serene, "Oh, they're very capable. Very."

Rocky isn't worried about his hide, the cut isn't deep or wide enough to scar much... but, best be uninjured if possible. Never know when a real monster attack might happen. And so he shuffles over towards the healers, when they have a moment.

The remaining Merciful weapons are stamped with the mithril aspen leaf of Mithralla Merchandisem for all you quality magical needs! Just look for the giant sword on the mountain road!

Taran doesn't approach to get healed, because he wasn't so much as touched during all of this. He does look at Serene though, and it's a curious appraising gaze which gets distracted by Zofija stalking and stomping about. He considers everything. "I wouldn't be opposed to continuing these challenges. Make connections, even if I wasn't all that useful. Maybe I can be more useful next time."

Cleaveland nods, clapping Rocky on the shoulder, "So you are made of cast iron. Heh. We should share a drink. I'll catch up with you later."

Serene kneels beside Screech to examine the animal, removing a glove to carefully check the wound like a woman who knows here way around a gryphon. She looks to Zojifa briefly, likely unreadable, before she looks to see who has gathered close.. and when she's satisfied that those who want it and haven't gotten their healing from someone else, she touches her crescent moon.. then carefully, yet firmly, once again with a hand that is sure and steady, she pulls the arrow free from the gryphon's neck. A moment later a pulse of cool, yet soothing energy emenates from her. Bleeding slows, bruising fades, aches lessen. She pats the beast's neck once, then rises. "That should do for now. But bear in mind that such healing is no replacement for rest. Be sure to get as much as you can tonight."

GAME: Serene takes ten on heal: (10)+13: 23

"I can't say I want to do more of that training, but you're all welcome to continue if you want. Don't know why you'd continue on like you still have non lethal weapons though." Zofija grunts. "You did fine. Snuck on that one and took some good blows out of him."

Her attention was more on the griffon, and the paladin who was tending to them. "Yeah, healing doesn't do much for blood loss." Zofi sighs. "I'll make sure they get the sleep they need and what food they can manage tonight. Thanks, healer."

"I've seen some things," Taran muses softly to himself in his deep baritone, soft but it still carries, "But I've never seen anything like that before." He looks rather amazed after that pulse of healing energies that had flooded over so many people all at once. "Really quite remarkable... makes me wish I knew how to do any sort of magic myself." He smiles a little and shakes his head wonderingly. "I definitely need a drink after all of this. Time to head to a tavern I think." And he offers a nice bow to all and sundry before stepping out of the tower and re-orienting towards the exit.

Serene nods once to Zojifa, then offers a small smile. Despite it being a thing extremely rarely seen on her face, it doesn't seem unnatural either. "I am sure you will. This is a fine companion.. I can tell you take care of them." Then she looks past those who remain, gives a small sigh, and moves off to help another group with some healing.

Tutorial stuff and scene intro
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Hi, thanks for coming. I'll set pose in a little bit. We have some new players (alts?) so combat might go a ilttle slower as 'how-to' is explained. Typically, once we're into rounds, if we aren't working on your turn within 5 minutes, I'll move to the next and you'll move down the init order. This is to keep things speedy and respect the other players' time."
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Also, everyone present at the start of one of my scenes gets a free re-roll, because the dice suck. This is a 3RPP deal, as that what it typically costs in other scenes. Please keep track because I generally don't. :)"

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Well the shrubs break line of sight, and Robert has said there may be trap doors under them, so that would be likely it"
<OOC> Taran says, "I mean beyond the trap doors, seems like using the arena itself betrays the spirit of the challenge."
<OOC> Kard says, "Are the large boxes sidewalks or eaves?"
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "the blue lines are 'these are higher elevations and I only have many brushes on this map'"
<OOC> Kard says, "I mean the brown boxes around the ground floor."

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "that's 'difficult terrain', rocks and gravel and stuff. movement is 1/2"
<OOC> Kard says, "Got it."

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Taran, it looks like you have your armour equiped. You can check by typing +inv, you will see a 'y' in the column if it is. Same for weapons. You can see your weapons by +csheet"

Lost Lore
Rocky pages: Mikilos is going to have WORDS with Lars about this... if he wasn't already past words anyway...
Long distance to Rocky: Cryosanthia nods! and laughs, "I'm so glad you hate him. "
Rocky pages: Were you around for the Azure Queen plotline?
Rocky pages: It was a while ago. Blue Bitch was a demon, I never learned full details, but tweaked peoples emotions. Turned disagreements into screaming matches, sparing into mortal combat. Mikilios replaced all the Arena weapons with Merciful. CANT be lethal. But, was a long time ago, lot of weapons replaced since then
You paged Rocky with 'Aaaaah. Did not know that. at all.'
Rocky pages: lost lore. Held until the end of the plotline, then forgotten. Enough people fightn with their own weapons anyway, and the shows still used sharp weapons, so no worries
You paged Rocky with 'i'll use it later. this was very ad hoc. I nearly had N'tssa in Lars' role'
