  • Summary: The week-ending eve sees various groups in the Tarrace. In addition to regular diners, <Band Name Here> is on stage, performing light instrumental dining music. The number of Inquisitors is down from the day prior, but there are two in bad disguises, and a gnome who isn't making any pretense about it. Morgan the Witch hovers in, taking a seat. She is soon joined by Cryosanthia and Little Fang. Morgan's activities are discussed, she's been seeking knowledge of The Planes in the great wizard library. Cryo asks how she travels, stating a wish that she had a method, or the Plane Hopping House under her control. Jinks meanwhile, headed straight for the bar, and drew Rupi, the local good-for-all-things outsider after. She expresses, or feigns expressing with expert skill, concern for Jinks' overdrinking, advising him that Sabina would be sad if he died, and she can't have that. He explains that it's part of a process of dealing with his encounters with demons. Hint. Hint. Lysos slips in but no one notices. Mercy Hjarlhunr, whom Rupi dubs 'the Sheepdog of Justice', increases the count Inquisitors looking for a demon in the Tarrace to four. She also enters, and heads straight for Jinks and the woman, and interrupts their conversation and also calls out the false-noses. Rupi is sent round fulfilling orders. Yolam the gnome inquisitor, asks for something bland, and she goes into the kitchen, prompting an unexpected rise in tension. The whitescale and pinkscale leave the kitchen; Rupi leaves the kitchen, distributing drinks, rejoining Jinks in time to see Mercy bellyflop over the bar and disguise herself and claim to be staff. Jinks leaves, Rupi takes Mercy's disguise as an opportunity to go off shift, and the band plays on.

Inside, this two-story structure has been almost completely opened up. Generous windows on both stories allow daytime sunlight and cooling night breezes to flow in as needed, while the brick walls have been whitewashed - contrasting with the dark-stained beams and supports, and the rich polish on the wooden floor. A broad strip of stone runs from the entrance to a framed doorway set into the opposite wall, with a sign above the lintel declaring that the baths are to be found that way.

The ground floor is sprinkled with tables and chairs of assorted sizes, offering welcome to guests both large and small. One whole corner of the building - into which guests are not permitted entry - has been given over to the kitchen, which serves as the domain of the famed monster chef Ligum Serforus. Mundane meals are available, but the chef delights in offering up obscure dishes made from the freshest of monster ingredients.

Opposite the kitchen a small bar runs in front of an array of shelves, displaying a broad selection of beverages (most of them alcoholic). The bar-top has been fashioned from what looks to have been old pieces of armor, fused and welded together before being polished to provide a near-smooth finish. Set above it, three human-sized statues have been built into an alcove in the wall: Tarien, Rada and Ceinara jointly keep benevolent watch over the room and its occupants.

To the right of the entrance, a small stage offers a platform for a handful of performers at a time. To the left of the door, a spiral staircase of wrought iron winds its way up to a balcony dining area, that is chiefly reserved for special events and parties.

The Tarrace, dinner is done, it's time for a show.

Up on stage are the golem performers, <Band Name Here>, with 733 Vocalizer Unit as lead singer, Panflute as the wind instruments, and Stringbox as the strings. There is a drumkit in the back, but aside from a drinking bird that tips and knocks out a 1:8 time beat, it is not used and underutilized.

733 VU announces, "Greeting protocols biologicals. We provide chamber music tonight. Sith'Machine remains temporarily offline."

The various tables around the TarRaCe are occupied by regulars, and fewer of the mysterious inquisitors in black garb. They are not completely absent, there are two, all in black with a beltcape. There is also a gnome, in pink and grey, with an overcoat in Eluna's colours. He has a handlebar moustache and a gleaming bald pate.

The slinky, occasionally pouty and dangerously curved Rupi remains at her post at the seating podium by the front door.

Morgan is floating in the back watching the show that is going on. Her notice goes towards the Gnome in Eluna style colouts "I wonder if I could make that work for me."

The greeter smiles pleasantly at Morgan, "Ooo, floaty. Take a seat anywhere luv." She waves behind her.

The hovering arrival gets the attention of the beltcapes, their heads immediately whip around to focus on her. They scribble some notes. The bald gnome is a bit more discrete, nods at Morgan and wiggles his fingers in greeting before going back to his meal.

Up on stage, the band starts up, playing a pleasant ambiance.

Jinks fares better with the doorframe today than he had the previous evening, navigating in behind the opened door with an almost professional aplomb. He rubs his gloves hands together vigorously and his ears, nose, and cheeks are red, his lips chapped. His coat is long, fine, and furlined, snug around the trunk but cut to move at the hips and legs. His onyx-black eyes are set into deep, dark rings, and he's mustered a few sparse bits of jewelry in the wake of his recent firesale.

"Hey Drinky-poo, you feeling better today?" Rupi asks sweetly, "Would you like a Drinky-poo?"

Morgan nods as she lets her feet on the ground as she makes her way to a seat. She sits down and tucks her feat a bit under the bench seat. Reaching in her haversack she gets a small bottle with a cork in it and a apple.

Cryosanthia descends from upstairs, with her is a small kobold youngling riding on her shoulders. The youngling has a leather dress, while Cryo is wearing her swashbuckling ensemble of mithril armour, cape and blouse, as well as a leather skirt. Her clothing is primarily a stark white with pale blue highlights and her corset is patterned with pale ovals.

At first glance, she seems normal, a second glance a lot thicker in her midsection and disguising it with an optical illusion. She glances about the Tarrace, her expressions are difficult to discern, but the beltcapes get an intense but brief stare.

She notices the half-elf first, and Jinks second. Lily notices Jinks first and stares at him, while the whitescale approaches, "Morgan! Peace on your Nest! How are you? It's been ages. Tell me what you've been up to."

"Hair of the dog," Jinks croaks in agreement. He half-turns and sidles past the milling crowd on the way to the bar, already plucking at the fingers of his gloves he'll soon shed. He still has sleep in the corner of his eyes but the glittering gold chains that dangle between nose and ear piercing distract from it. He looks about for Sabina and then back to Rupi, observing in the same hoarse rattle "Unsupervised tonight." He licks his lips to the sound of sandpaper dragging.

Morgan smiles to the lizard folk "I am well and I was gone for a few weeks lost in the great libary looking for wizard stuff." she gives the little one with Cryo a smile and offers a slice of apple before looking to the Goblin ording a drink.

Gnome, she meant gnome. Not goblin, not halfling, not dyno-mite. All small folks are the same.

"Peaasssce." The little kobold says, plopping on a seat beside Morgan and watching her with unblinking eyes. The apple slice is snapped up and swallowed, she seems ready to swallow another, should it be offered.

Cryo gets a bench and slides in, leaning an arm on the table. "You've met Little Fang, yes? Lily. She's my foundling."

The whitescale tilts her hear, also lavishing a long look at Morgan, "What were you seeking? Were you lost-lost, or lost in books?"

The gnome's response seems to be enough to draw Rupi away from her seating podium. She nods at a few of the other servers as she passes them, then sits at the bar beside Jinks. She teases, "You can supervise me if you like."

She leans a little closer, her voice going husky, "If you like. How about some coffee."

Morgan nods as she lets the little one take the whole apple as she gets a book out "This book is full of astral maps to other planes. I am looking for a well traveled one so I can hope to find new things to study."

"How do you get there? This one has investigated plane shifting items." Cryo says, looking at the book, "Oh, may I see? I was considering a Wondrous Figurine, but the horse tends to drop one in the Hells and that is the place this one wishes to avoid."

Lily takes the apple, "Thanssss." There are cruching noises.

On stage, <Band Name Here> switches to something uptempo but still heavily electronic.

The gnome in Eluna's colours casually observes Jinks, while the beltcapes are staring at the waiters and waitresses.

Morgan makes a small nod as the book moves over to Cryo on its own "I would use a plane shift spell, I can go to any if I have something to connect it to. I use the standard tunning rods." she gives the little one a smile "And there is a easier way but I have not figured how to open Gates yet."

Jinks folds his gloves together and stuffs them into a deep coat pocket, flexing freed fingers fretfully. He curls his fingertips together and examines the angry red skin around the polished nails. "Thk," he begins, sucking his teeth and glancing at Rupi, "no. Thank you. Not my type. I'm also not a portly watch commander, wondering what terminal lack of imagination led me to my miserable career choice." He clears his throat and shakes his head, "So I've no use for coffee."

He forces something approaching a genuine smile, trying to take some of the unintended venom from his words. "Sorry. Thank you. No thank you. Whiskey, neat. Something old enough to work in this child labor-free civilization of ours." He scoops an assortment of coins from his belt area and sets a neat stack on the bar.

"That's... all beyond me." Cryo admits, although she does have some knowledge of the planes. Intrigued, she flips pages, looking for diagrams first then reading out them to see what they're all about. "This one found a plane hopping house. I crashed it softly on a mountain. I saw Kor's heaven before then."

She pauses, looking distant, then looking at her youngling. Lily wears an earring on one of her horns, Braelnoir's earring, the dancing skeleton that belonged to Rolson. Cryo chuffs, "Kor's heaven with three Korrites, that was something."

Lily bites another piece of the apple off.

Rupi sits there with a pleasant smile, lounging and straining her uniform in ways it wasn't meant to handle. It may all be an act, knowing what she is, it likely is. Somehow she still sounds seductive while her words are cold, "So, I don't care about you. Sabina does. If you died that would make her unhappy, and I want her to be happy. So if you want to drink yourself to death, well, I can't stop you, but if you want to talk I can listen."

She holds her hand up to halt the whiskey which has arrived, a glass and a bottle, and rubs her finger around the glass making it sing, "We've got juices and weaker things." Great, she's touched it.

Morgan ears perks up at the mention of the house "Oh is the house still there?" Said in a voice that really hopes she can get it.

"Yes!" Cryosanthia laughs, leaning forward, "It is, or it should be." She wiggles on her seat, rubs her hands down her belly twice and teases, "It's myyyy house. Mine, and Braelnoir's and Baz's and Edinaz's and Mac Bee one Gee's, but it has lots of rooms. We can share it."

She leans back, sighs, "Only have to get back out to it, which I never seem able to."

GAME: Jinks casts Prestidigitation. Caster Level: 5 DC: 15

"There is a refind process at play..." The gnome begins, reaching out to set his frost-kissed fingers against the glass. Lightly but deliberate. "And neither the road nor the destination involves the hat trick display of mine own mortality." He pulls the glass slowly across the bar, easing back to sit firmly on the stool; he'd had to stand on the rungs to reach. It takes a few attempts but he manages to finally hum the bars of his bard's trick, wiping his own finger around the lip of the glass to leave a rapidly fading pink glow. "I'd just like to quiet the pulsing thunder from last night."

"I see." Rupi says, blinking slowly and sitting back, "Well, hopefully not, for the sake of those that care about you."

She smiles eagerly, "Mind if I watch the process?"

Meanwhle, Cryo and Morgan continue their conversation about the planes.

Jinks uses his free hand to gesture that Rupi is welcome to keep her place as he lifts the glass. He lingers with his lips just touching, nostrils flaring wide as he inhales the warm, woody scents. His eyes close and there's the briefest delay, the self-inflicted torment of restrained gratification. Then he takes the first modest mouthful, cheeks flat as he savors that first, burning kiss. He almost looks asleep-- the illusion shattered when he speaks; the frogs drowned and his breath warmed. "If I wanted to die I wouldn't be hiding here. I'd have kept my word and done as promised." He takes a second drink, enjoying it as much without belaboring the process the second time. Goosepimples ripple on the back of his neck and he gives a little shiver. "Why are you infested with black cloaks?"

Rupi watches, making an effort to sniff when the gnome does, perhaps her senses are strong. While she has adopted the posture of interest, or perhaps of a working girl, there's a predatory aspect to her gaze. Her smile, her eyes, they way they blink and move betray an odd curiosity. She sits up when he tastes the kiss of the whiskey.

"Well, we're happy you choose this as your place of refuge," the woman says cheerfully. Her voice lowers to answer his question. "Well. They are investigating a rumour that there is a demon hiding here."

She makes an odd sort motion with her hand, thumb rubbing against her fingers.

The investigators continue watching the Tarrace and each other, and slowly, slowly, eating the cheapest item on the menu.

Lysos invisibly slips in the door. She walks past the blackcloaks, none raise their false noses to look at.

On stage, Panflute goes into a solo of rapid fire beats, like pips of peas out of a pod, while filling the air with a droning noise reminiscent of a Hurgy-Gurdy. In this moment, she sounds very similar to that instrument, and a little like bagpipes as well.

In the kitchen there are shouts, then sounds of fire fighting.

"Cowering in the temple-- even Coyote's-- gets old and the luckbringers keep trying to put you to work." Jinks explains his choice, then drains the last of the glass. He looks at the waiting bottle, sucking his top, then bottom lip but pushes the glass a short distance away with three fingers instead. Chin tucked, he turns his head. "They're exceptionally subtle. I don't think I recognize the Person." He uses a pinky to dig the corners of his eyes clean, then turns the other way to glance at the Elunite.

The band plays on.

Cryo and Morgan continue their in depth conversation, drinks are ordered. They turn a page in their book, and examine a plate showing all the spheres of material and alignment. The pink kobold finishes her apple.

Yolam coincidentally stares off into space where Lysos is. He's not looking directly at her, his eyes are watching a place slightly left of centre. He twirls the end of one of his mustaches thoughtfully. He turns his head suddenly and nods in Jinks' direction, giving a thumbs up. Perhaps he misunderstands the situation or the signal.

Rupi nods, as if she's paying attention. "They are." Her voice draws out, "Very." Then, "Careful that might seem like an invitation."

Perhaps he doesn't.

"Here is kind of a temple, to the three. So you haven't escaped. Only one Luckbringer though."

Tall, clad in black and platinum with a white plume above her floppy browed hat, The young warrior is clearly a either A- a servant of Daeus or B- a huge fan of dragons. she doffs her floppy hat with a flourish, waving the plume at everyone in the room as she smiles brightly and says.

"May the blessing of the god of JUSTICE be upon you all. I'm their servant Mercy Hjarlhunr. Which in Aesir means 'shepherd dog'.

She winks openly at the other inquisitors, rolling her yes at their disguises.

"Really?"

Mercy putting her hat firmly back on her head, heads over to the bar and reaches into her coin purse...

Jinks offers a polite smile and a shallow nod. People are People, after all, and deserve the benefit of the doubt no matter how poor their choice of patron. He's reminded of a certain Elunite you could keep in your larder to chill your stores year-round. He turns back to his empty glass-- only to turn again and glance askance at Mercy's arrival. "Fool Gaerth was off by one night," he mutters to Rupi.

The gnome turns back and looks between the glass and bottle, eventually rationalizing himself into pouring that second drink. "The risen horde," he realizes, pointing one finger at Mercy with his glass-holding hand after placing her.

Mercy arches eyebrow at the gnome. "The risen horde? Do I LOOK undead to you?" she then places a small stack of coins in front of the least active looking staff person (Rupi) and says "Give proper drinks and all the answers required of you to those other inquisitors. I'm sure you're figured out who they are."

"You fought against them." Jinks amends, gesturing past Mercy in a easterly fashion. "Near Sage Orum's..." he narrows his eyes, trying to remember through his headaches. "Crossbow?"

"Remember what Sabina said." Rupi whispers quietly to Jinks, then addresses Mercy, "Hi! Welcome to the Tarrace! Sit anywhere, someone will serve you. Or... here, and I guess it's me. Sure, that's fine." She slips off her seat, smiling, "The don't seem to want drinks but I'll answer their food orders, sure."

Off she goes.

Mercy says, "Ah yes! you witnessed the sad sad failure of my precious. The previous number one crossbow in my possession." The inquisitrix of Daeus rufffles her cape causing the three light crossbows hiding beneath to rattle somewhat.

The young inquisitor smiles broadly at the sad looking Gnome. "But yes we did fight side by side there. along with a gloriously mounted palladin. You know I always wanted to be a palladin. IT was revealed to me that my destiny lay... elesewhere. But yes even as I am I can still serve JUSTICE.

Rupi circulates, going to each black beltcaped person and taking an order. She's cheerful and effusive, a regular waitress working hard for tips. The gnome with the gleaming head gets a thoughtful glance, and she approaches him as well.

"Ah, I am not of their like," he laughs, "Yolam Murmurboggle."

"I think the Sheepdog bought everyone a drink if you want it." Rupi purrs.

"Then my arm is bent, the best whiskey, like your friend drinks."

Next it's off to the kitchen.

A halfling in red shorts with a red helmet and a fire axe rushes into the kitchen.

Mercy's eyes wander around the room quickly taking in the scene, developing situational awareness as she engages in light conversation. Her eyes linger on Cryosanthia for a moment as if enraptured. She then looks away and smiles sheepishly while casually stroking the platinum dragon on the front of her tabard. She tips her hat to the last person to speak to the waitress and returns her attention to Jinks. "I am most sorry. I seem to gave forgotten your name."

"Jinks," he offers, "and the paladin was Paenitia Snapdragon (sister)... del Hu--hmm... Haranna?" Jinks offers for Mercy's benefit, he leans back and puts a hand over his eyes as his brow furrows in thought. "... Knight of the Pillar and Paladina of Tarien." There's a lyrical rhythm to it; verse without melody to aid the memory. The gnome uncovers his face and opens his eyes. "And Ramirez, the peacock, of course."

He watches Rupi busy herself, perhaps relaxing after she's taken her leave. Or maybe it's just your imagination. He drinks his drink again and seems oblivious to the large white sith and her ward.

With a snap of her black gloved fingers a and bright smile Hjarlhundr agrees. "Yes that's the one. A true knight of JUSTICE if ever there was. and SUCH a glorious mount." She looks back into Jinks' eyes. "And sirrah do you do for yourself when not defending the city from the ranks of the undead. I do not denigrate your living but I suspect that your days are NOT spent seeking and delivering JUSTICE.

Cryosanthia and her conversation with Morgan comes to a close. The witch floats up out of her chair and drifts off towards the exit. This prompts more rapid scribbling in notebooks.

"No Lily, don't eat that. We'll get proper food in the kitchen." The whitescale admonishes her young charge, picking her up and letting her scramble to her shoulders. She grabs a few plates, might as well help out.

Passing the bar on the way to the back, she nods at Jinks, gives a second nod to his companion, then halts for a moment, examining both. She scans the dining hall, looking for someone, then faces the kitchen door once more.

Cryo resumes moving, elegantly gliding past, tall and in control of herself and slips into the back.

The young inquisitress puts her back to the bar and leans on her elbows. While she seems to be just casually settling herself down as she profiles one leg and bends the other back to put boot sole up against the bar, she IS in fact applying her investigative talents to the bar it's structure it's patrons, it's accessories...everything.

GAME: Mercy rolls perception: (9)+9: 18

The golem band are all golems, as best as can be determined from simple inspection. There are two badly disguised inquisitors, and the gnome Yolam. It' obviously he is one also, he's Eluna's. Everyone else, other than the witch, looks like normal Alexandrians. The witch leaves.

Strange shifts in the dust motes are occurring. Could be strange air currents, or a draft from an open window. Or an invisible Lysos avoiding individuals with uncharacteristic skill.

"On the contrary." Jinks challenges, tenting his fingers over the glass and tapping one lightly against the rim. 'When I'm not earning my coin I try to find another pretty Person-- a gnome like me-- and find a quiet place for Just-Us.'

"Or drink to try and forget the unstoppable forces lurking at the edges of perception." He mutters the last bit into his glass, clipped, rapid-fire syllables of his native language. <gnome>

GAME: Mercy rolls athletics: (2)+5: 7

Mercy nods "I see. well we all find our joys where we may. Myself I enjoy my work. although not necessarily my colleaugues. She takes off her hat with convoluted evolution of one hand that leaves it atop the bar. She winks and smiles derisively at the two badly disguised investigators. Struggling a bit she drops her kilted mail shirt out from under he black clothes. along with a small iron mongery of weapons...

Oddly, there's a sudden sense of tension in the air. It's source, unknown. Nothing seems amiss.

The kitchen is quiet, the ring of pots, pans and other activity seems momentarily quelled.

Rupi emerges, with a tray of drinks, moving to distribute the orders. A glass and some appetizers are set down at each table. When she reaches Yolam's table, he accepts the drink but waves off the food, "Oh no, my stomach, it is delicate. I will stick with the rice."

Rupi ends up back beside Jinks and Mercy, setting the refused appetizers down, "Here you go..." She pauses, watching the contortions Mercy is going through, "Ah... you need help with that? We usually disrobe in the baths."

Jinks sighs and glances again at the black cloaks, the timid mirth what crept into his features retreating behind a dour cloud. "There are forces turning the city and its people against the adventurer's guild." He lowers his voice, speaking into the glass. Not a whisper but nothing that should carry past the bar with the band playing in the background. "There are powerful demons and their agents everywhere. You may seek justice but the ones in black are likely just terrified and making a show to try and deny it." He drains the glass in one go and then slides it down the bar and out of reach. "Best not to draw too much attention to yourself," he offers the last bit at a normal speaking voice around the time Rupi arrives.

GAME: Mercy rolls disguise: (11)+9: 20

Mercy's attempt to flip graciously and suddenly over the bar turns more into rolling over top an behind it. From behind the bar she says..."That didn't go as well as expected... anyhow...

"So... don't do that." Rupi asks Jinks, as Mercy goes over the bar.

White-blonde hair now more natural blonde due to the quick application of a coloured hair cream, Long fall of hair now tied back in a high pony tail, her black clothes shifted about to look more buxom civilian and -employed here- Mercy stands up again, with an expression on her face of being in the middle of chewing gum. She eyes her own stuff as if it was dropped there by a stranger and tucks behind the bar. Then she Turns to Rupi and says. "Don't do what Hon? Someone's gotta work da bar."

Jinks smiles faintly, down off the stool and standing next to it as he pulls his gloves back on. The gnome turns up the collar on his longcoat and sighs. "Just... be careful," he requests, turning to look around one last time before heading to the door.

Somewhere in all the fuss the bottle from the bartop went missing; maybe Mercy knocked it over with her acrobatics? Maybe an extra-dimensional space opened up and closed immediately? It's quite the mystery.

Mercy waves "Come again dear sir." - she smirks at the two inquisitors with bad fake noses. and mouths. "In your facce"

Lysos is good at being invisible, yes.

"You too Drinksy," Rupi says, sounding convincingly concerned. She leans towards him, does not touch, "Don't make 'Bina sad."

Straightening up, she nods at Mercy, "Well, I guess that's me off shift then. Try to keep up with the orders." She glances out, at the very unresponsive crowd, "I'm sure they'll have you jumping."

She turns and heads upstairs.

Lysos drifts out, following Jinks.

Mercy shrugs and with a gum chewing 'jersey' accent proceeds to hold down the bar for a couple of hours while smirking at the other inquisitors the whole time.

733 and the band continued to play until the very end.
