The call went out for some people to investigate a tower that just suddenly appeared not far from a village outside of Alexandria. The sun set on a clearing with no tower and when the sun rose the next morning the tower was there. The locals are leary and wary of approaching the tower so they have hired others to do it for them. So that is your mission, to find out what you can about the Tower. The tower can be seen from the village you were called to, as it looks to reach quite high into the sky.

Kroth, the mighty oruch monk of angoron, has answered the call. Once they have reached the village, he is quick to observe the tower, his forehead furrowing as he contemplates its height.

Mel is here. He's often involved in local events, when he can, so he was pleased he was able to take part in this. He adds a little local flavor as they make their way to the village, then pauses to take in the tower.

From afar, Mel nods.

Given the size of the tower apparently, it looks like it is some distance still, at least a couple hours travel.

Rourn is fairly mercenary, so the thought of some magic tower full of valuables and magical trinkets for the taking sounds too good to pass up, so the Hob is there with bells on. Any by bells, I mean, all sorts of delving and adventuring accoutrements, most hanging from or stuffed into the arcane quiver/bandolier/pack harness strapped across his shoulders and waist. For the time being, he has a spear out as a walking stick and poking stick. "Anybody know anything about magic?" Rourn queries the other two, eyes fixed on the tower in distance.

Mel mutters, "Dunno what makes this place special, for this to show up here. ... Lots of places on the trade road." He shakes his head to Rourn. "I know you need a wizard or a priest." He'll continue moving if it's so far away.

Kroth shakes his head, "I know nothing of certain about magic, just tales and rumors."

<OOC> Tiasa says, "continue posing, well do another set in a moment."

"Well, shit." Rourn grumbles, digging a small cigar from a belt pouch and lighting it with a nearby torch or lamp, "I know how to mess with magic traps a little, but it takes some serious mojo to hide a tower. Or make one out of nothing. Guess we'll play it by ear." He opines through the haze of smoke.

Mel walks along towards the tower, watching it to see if there's any activity there or anything that can be seen to be going on. He squints into the distance as we steadily walk closer. "Play by ear," he says with a wince to Rourn. "When I was in the army, playing it by ear never went well."

The Tower just sets in the distance, though as you walk it starts to seem a bit closer.

Kroth grunts faintly, "Plans often change, no sense making too many when all of them fall apart. You must rely on your strength of arm and wits instead."

"Well, we ain't in no army now, and nobody makes a tower like that without putting some rich stuff inside." The hob replies as he walks, walking along at a decent clip when he suddenly stops and hurls his spear at a rabbit, catching it in the back leg. Before it can limp away, Rourn is on the thing, pulling it out a patch of thick grass and twisting it's neck. He retrieves his spear and grins toothily and looks rather pleased with himself as he falls back in line, "At least we'll have a hot dinner if we get out." The spear is tucked away in his quiver and Rourn starts skinning and gutting the critter on the move,

Mel nods at what Kroth and Rourn say. "Working for the Guild is a lot different than soldiering, that's for sure," he agrees. He watches Rourn nail the rabbit, and agrees, "Yeah, a fresh dinner will be nice. I know a few tricks with rabbit," he says smiling widely.

Eventually the base of the tower is in sight. The tower almost looks like it grew out of the ground. The stone blocks quite large and seams smooth. THe tower looks new. The ground around the tower is undisturbed. It rises almost a hundred feet into the air.

Kroth looks at the tower a moment, studying the ground around it and the structure itself. He then circles it to try to find a door, if their is one.

Mel follows Kroth around, searching for a way in. He looks up and down the surface in case there are windows or anything. "It's weird that nothing around the area is undisturbed. I wonder if it's someone's magical tower?"

Rourn goes the other route and tries to look for any windows or potential handholds in climbing the tower. "Well, it didn't just grow up like a stalk of corn."

The tower looks completely smooth, no hand holds, no windows that can be seen.

You paged Kroth with 'you can barely see a couple windows near the very top. There doesn't seem to be any other way into the tower.'

Kroth points up, "Windows....can we climb this?" He looks to examine the stone, making sure there would be handholds.

Mel sighs heavily. "Well, crap. Nothing. Now what?" he asks the others. "I didn't bring a hammer or pick to break into it."

Rourn frowns, his attention split between finding a tree of sufficient height nearby to hang the rabbit carcass from. Once he returns, "Dammit, I have a crowbar in my pack, but I didn't bring a sledge." He does put his ear up to the tower and raps on the wall with a gauntleted knuckle to listen for a change in sound, something to indicate a secret door.

As you all are inspecting the Tower, and the tower itself is touched, there is the sound of the displacement of air. Turning there are two three headed hounds suddenly standing not that far behind where you were. The hounds are hideous as it looks like very inch of skin has been peeled away, leaving them as hounds of wet sinew and bulging tendons.

"Taara's Cunt! Whatfuckisthat" Rourn sputters out as he catches the sudden appearance of the skinless hounds in the corner of his eye. But his reaction is fast, though not that accurate. The hob springs from the tower and gets a running to start to hurl his spear at one of the creatures, but it sails overhead with just a little too much juice in the throw.

The two hounds charge forward one of them biting Mel, the other trying to bite Rourn but missing.

Kroth reacts quickly as the thing approaches mel. He moves to the wall, leaps up against it and then pushes off it. He comes down with a kick at the creature and rolls to stand up with it between him and Mel. In one hand is an enchanted weapon, he swings it around slapping the wood against the creature twice.

Mel aiyeee! He jumps up and starts as the hounds appear and he gets a look at them. Shakily drawing a javelin and buckler, he pants hard as events unfold, pulling free from the attacks. Clearly war-surplus, his gear screams ex-soldier for what little that's worth. "I was in the army, but I only cooked. We almost never fought," he explainsas he's got a hound in his face. The javelin is dropped, and he draws his issue shortsword. He sees Kroth's attack distract the creature, and thrusts hard with the sword while the monster is dealing with Kroth.

<OOC> Rourn says, "Hmm. If I can use acrobatics to avoid an AoO and get into a flanking position to gang stab the one Mel and Kroth are working, I'll do that. Rourn ducks and rolls out of the way of the hound that lunges at him, coming up in a roll to land near allies. Before the other hound can react to the kicking and nunchucking, the hob plants his dagger down to the hilt in it's back, opening up several veins that leave an outpouring of blood once he frees the long knife from it's back.

Kroth narrows his eyes, drawing his empty hand up and then down swiftly to slam into the creatures head. The blow is so well aimed the creature simply crumples under it, to the surprise of Kroth himself.

Mel whews as Kroth takes out the beast that had mauled him. He looks around and sees Rourn facing the other one-on-one, and shouts out, rushing over to take it from behind, slashing at the back legs and leaving a bloody slash.

Rourn's gets his dagger arm caught in the jaws of the freakish hound. A nerve strike right in the throat shatters a few blood vessels opens the jaws long enough to free his arm, but not catch it in the mouth on the way out. He shakes the pain off and flips his dagger to change the direction of the blade for optimal stabbing.

Once more the Oruch takes to the air, another leaping kick at the beast and then quick rapid strikes form the chained pieces of enchanted wood. One across a foreleg and then the other cracking the skull enough to drop the creature. Kroth stands still as it falls, waiting to make sure nothing else is about before he relaxes.

Mel gasps as the second thing drops. "Whew! Lucky the farmers were smart enough not to come out here. What /are/ those things?" he asks, eying the dead creatures even as he cleans up the light mauling on his arm with a wince.

"Not a fucking clue. Probably some godsdamned failed wizard's experiment." Rourn grumbles as he rolls his sleeve up while stepping on the throat of the quickly downed beast to completely finish it off. He applies a small amount of balm and clean bandages to the bite, tossing each over to Mel to use as necessary. "Did touching the tower make them appear?"

GAME: Tiasa removes the timestop. Timestop by Tiasa has left. GAME: You remove the timestop. <OOC> Tiasa says, "free poses"

Kroth shrugs and looks back at the tower. "If we want to get inside, we would need to climb it, and without proper tools..." he shrugs a bit. He then walks over, and puts a hand on the side of the tower, and waits.

Mel shrugs to Rourn about touching the tower. "We can try it again and see?" he suggests. "Now that we're ready for it. We're gonna have to touch it to get in anyhow, clumbing or breaking in." He'll look at the tower and see if he can maybe guess how hard a climb it would be.

Rourn reclaims his spear once he's finished and rolls his sleeve back down, concealing once again the small dagger sheathed up his mid forearm that shielded the bite from being any worse. "Do it, I'll stand watch this time."

This time, the Tower starts to shimmer, glow and fade. Its as if it were slowly teleporting or moving to a different plane, or maybe just going invisible. You paged Rourn with 'you notice three firey shapes in where the tower was.'

<OOC> Kroth says, "Am I looking like I'm going to go with it?" From afar, Rourn will throw a spear! <OOC> Tiasa says, "nope" You paged Rourn with '1d100 call high or low before you roll'

Mel peers critically at the tower. "I think if it's fading away, or even just turning invisible, then we call that a win and get back to the village," he suggests.

Kroth frowns, looking up and shaking his head. "Its going to leave, but no telling if it will come back or not. Nor if it leaves while we climb if we will fall down."

Rourn spots something in the fading tower and hucks a spear at it, to no apparent effect.

The Tower finally vanishes and where it was, are three massive figures of burning flames. Each stands over 16ft in height. They start moving towards you.

Two of the flaming figures move closer, the grass under them burning with their movements. They are only about 20ft from you all now. There is still one about 70ft from you. The tower was that big.

Rourn says, "Figures." As the three towering infernos appear and start closing in. Luckily for him, he has a potion he found in a troll's backpack that protects from fire. So he opens the small gourd and pours the clotted, disgusting mess inside down his gullet, choking it down and blinking back a tear while he does it. Delicious swamp witch mystery potions."

Mel tries to work his way around the flame monsters to back up Kroth. Unfortunately, he's not fooling the flame monsters for a moment. He whimpers as he's burned in passing and strikes with his sword, but it's a very weak blow, and doesn't seem to really affect it.

Rourn is as safe as the potion can make him. Fire creatures don't bleed, so his lighter arms are going to be worthless. Left with other options, he pulled the sickle-like polearm from his quiver and takes a wild swing that catches nothing as he moves in to attack.

Mel takes a deep breath as he dodges the second elemental, and concentrates on his original target in an effort to take it out quickly. His blade reflects the flames as he brings it in to strike, hacking as best he can at the huge creature. It turns out to be not very effectively at all, and his coat is on fire in a couple places as the flames engulf him.

Kroth is on fire, the oruch roars with his anger and fury, but seems still to control his movements. Around his left hand there is a hissing and smoking as it seems covered in green acid which he thrusts into the elemental. Then swings his nunchuku rapidly at the flames to try to keep doing more damage. The oruch...is pissed.

The oruch is still screaming, in pain and rage as he fights the burning elemental. He punches again with that fist that hisses with acid, then continues to swing the enchanted nunchuku at the creature. As his last blow hits, the fire starts to fade and blows up like a candle in the wind.

The one chasing Rourn has gotten closer, its pacing back and forth at the edge of the pond.

Rourn stands up and begins taunting the fire creature at the shore, getting it as close as possible and luring it in, "Orc, kick him in!" He says as he uses his guisarme to distract and disrupt the fire elemental.

The oruch turns towards the voice, then his feet are a blur as he is suddenly rushing forward. He roars at the elemental and it swipes him with a flaming hand, but it does not stop him from barrelling into it and carrying himself and the elemental into the water.

Rourn wades through the steaming, boiling pool/remains of the dissipating fire elemental, getting some use out of that potion. "Not my finest moment..." He mutters under his breath, cupping his hands and splashing water at his incendiary opposition. Enough to keep it mildly pained and distracted to try this one more time...

Kroth rises from the water, growling and cracking his neck from side to side. He speaks a word and some of his wounds seem to close about him and he stalks forward towards the elemental, the nuchuku already whirling in his hand, ready to fight again.

Kroth takes the burning strike from the elemental and simply glowers back. He punches again with the acid hand, and then swings twice more the weapon in his other, tearing through more of its essence.

The oruch staggers slightly, noticing Rourn from the corner of his eye. A low growl from his throat and he steps and charges at the fire elemental, he manages a grip on it for a few moments, pushing it back into the water with a hiss of steam. Then the oruch takes a step or two and falls into the water face first.

Rourn kneels over and catchs his breath, gasping. Though he is thoughtful enough to grab Kroth, flip him over in the water, and drag him to the muddy shoreline before clambering over to Mel and making sure he's breathing before he collaspes flat on his back. "Fucking....tower.....fucking wizards..."

Rourn patches the other two up to stabilize them, and then goes about making that rabbit stew dinner, a happy punctuation on what has been a rather shitty day for Roun. The wounded get hoisted next to the fire and onto makeshifting bough beddings to lie down on and recuperate. And of course, a search for any signs of what happened to the tower or if left anything worth hauling back behind.

Kroth will take a bit of time to recover, when he does come too, he will use some energy left in his body to heal himself a small amount. Then rise to his feet and be ready to move. If he has to carry Mel, he will do so, without word. As for the tower, well, they can report that to those who hired them.

They are able to get Mel and back to the village. They get paid and that the tower is gone, but the villagers say they will keep an eye out.
