"Thank you all for coming." Mikilos greets the group. "In case you weren't informed, I'm going to be casting a spell that will hopefully shed some light on some of the city's recent problems, in particular the vampire Kol Demontry. If all goes well, I'll do my castings, get some information, and all will be well.

However, Kol has a power Mistress, and the spell may attract attention. Servants of the Mistress might be sent to stop me. Kol himself might show up. Honestly, I doubt it. But the risk is too great to not have a reply of had, just in case.

The casting will take an hour or so. To make sure of my information, my current plan is to try again tomorrow, and again the day after, to check and double check the information.

So in short, I'm going to cast some spells, demons and vampires might show up. Questions?"

GAME: Merek rolls will: (8)+13: 21

Azog nods slowly about questions. "We're allowed to kill them?" he asks, drawing his blade and resting it point-down on the ground. "This isn't one of those group-hug missions? Only I've been on those before, where we make friends with devil spiders and whatnot." Not the most unbiased characterization, but Azog lives in a black-and-white world.

Morgan shakes her head "Normally spells like this is part of a casting circle." she then trails off about magic and so on. The half elf stops when she realizes not many casters here care to hear about this stuff.

The recent dwarf berserker known as Volund was in the back of the room, arms crossed as his light pipe surrounded him with swirling smoke. With all of his armor equipped he looked garish and dangerous all at the same time...whether he actually was worth the gold that was offered, well that remained to be seen.

"Yeah, I gotta question, chum. A guy's gotta last name like 'Demontry', like 'Demon Tree', could this chucklehead be any less subtle if he tried?"

Giving a sly grin that was visible under his short black beard, the wildman looked around at the rest of the group as he made himself comfortable.

Merek is assisting in protection, while he wears his dark attire with his scarf which he has on. Most of his equipment has been enchanted into looking nice, while he takes a moment to adjust his goggles about the neck. "I have dealt with both of them, if you engage with them, your goal should be to make it difficult for them to get to Mikilos. You won't be able to win."

Skribbles shakes her head, "Nah, it's all good." She points to herself and smiles, "You got a certified insane Goblin here with you. You'll be perfectly safe as long as the explosions don't get too close."

Zapolklnex removes his hood to listen just that much better. "I will assist as I can. I have never fought such a creature before."

Faranmidahn stands by next to her giant, glossy black spider, a hand resting against his carapace, and her visor drawn down over her features. She carefully draws her longsword once the explanation is given and she simply nods, trying to get into the 'business' mindset, which fails miserably as the quip from the barbarian drags a giggle kicking and screaming from her lips despite her best efforts.

Mikilos nods to Azog. "If anything show up, assume they're here to kill or be killed. I'm sort of kicking a planar hornet's nest, so I suppose is a chance something friendly comes to check things out, but I very much doubt it. With luck, nothing will show up at all, and this will be boring."

Azog hrms, nods to Mikilos. "Kill everything. Challenge accepted." His voice is steady, almost leaden, his accent still thick after all these years. He puts on his helmet and takes up his shield, getting everything into place.

GAME: Merek casts Glyph of Warding. Caster Level: 7 DC: 16

As the others in the room prepare for demons and prepare for magic spells, Volund glances around and spots the woman...and spots the eight legged creature she arrived with. The short stocky bearded man did a double take when he saw it, nearly dropping his pipe before he recovered it with his incredible barbarian reflexes. As he adjusted his gloves to make sure they wouldn't block his real weapons, the dwarf in the tan and brown armor sidled closer to the albino and muttered.

"Darlin', please tell me that thing is housebroken. I don't wanna send a buncha demon punks back ta wherever only ta find this thing makin' an unholy mess of everything."

Merek takes a bit of chalk he has with him, then he begins to encircle them all while he checks them. Then he begins to weave a divine spell into the device, then he spins about in a circle while he begins to draw amidst them all a Lunar Symbol for Eluna.

Azog eyes Merek skeptically, and he wonders aloud, "What's that you're doing? Are we gonna be stuck fighting in some circle?" he wonders, sounding more concerned with that than with what we may be facing.

Mikilos has very little by way of preparation, really. Just a clear spot on the floor, a quill and some paper. And his regular assortment of adventuring gear, of course. If something violent should happen, he doesn't plan to just sit there. "Looks like a Warding Glyph. A boobytrap for whatever comes at us, I assume. Any case, I'm ready. Is everyone else prepared?"

Skribbles whistles a light tune, looking at the back of her hand and fingers as though wondering if she needs to trim her nails. She is waiting for the inevitable doom to come because Mikilos cursed this endeavour, and there's nothing else to it.

Faranmidahn looks at the stocky fellow as he makes his way over to her and replies, "Oh, no, we went before we came." See? No problems! She rubs the spider's carapace and advises, "Just stay away from Torrent's face. He gets excited, sometimes."

Merek looks to the ward while he nods to Mikilos, "Glyph of Warding, won't bother anyone here unless you're secretly on the foe's side, I went with a spell which will target only those coming into it with divine energy," he says.

Volund looks at the spider, then at Faran. "Torrent, uh huh. I'll keep that in mind."

A moment later, the barbarian adjusts his his winged/horned cowled helmet, tightening it extra tight. "I'm ready ta dance if the rest of ya twinkletoes are. So let's get ta two-steppin'!"

Morgan watches the spells being casted and the others here "Well this will be fun." is that sarcasm. She says a few arcane words at it she lifts off the ground a inch "Any one here want a spell to make you stronger?" asked the group.

Azog nods to Merek, shakes his head to Morgan. He's already pretty strong, and, moving to the center of the room, he takes a few quiet moments, and he grows to twice his height and gets a bit stronger. Because magic. Evil is going to have a rough time of it tonight if he has his way.

Zapolklnex has no particular preparations he can make, so he simply nods to the others, and finds what appears to be a safe position, relatively, where he won't be surrounded.

Faranmidahn nods and looks up to the flying lady. Ooooooh! She'll have to experiment with that at some point. But, not sure her strength will be fully needed, she doesn't burden anyone with buffing it. She'll have plenty of chances to regret that, later.

Mikilos sighs, takes a slow breath, and quietly murmurs the words of the spell. For several minutes, nothing else happens, at least to physical views. Then the mage perks slightly, and quietly, but distinctly, speaks a few words, waits a moment for some sort of reply, and asks more questions.

GAME: Mikilos casts Contact Other Plane. Caster Level: 13 DC: 24

There's a moment of silence in the room in the wake of Mikilos' spell. His words resonate in the air and then a voice answers him in the same strange language that he himself asked them in. Only... Halfway through the answer there's a gust of cold air. A chill that strikes into the bones and everyone gets the distinct sense that they are not alone. That there is someone in the room with them that wasn't before. Then, in a flicker of shadow and light there is a figure standing before Mikilos. A tall figure that swings his arms open wide and cries out in a loud voice that obscures the sound of the reply that Mikilos is waiting for. "HELLO! You rang?"

Behind the figure which is clearly that of Kol Demontry, the man whom Mikilos warned might arrive, is that of a slender, petite woman. One who exudes cold as if it were a perfume rather than an element to chill your bones with. She's beautiful, but in a cold way, wearing a blue dress that matches her pale husky-blue eyes that lack the warmth of joy inside them. She blinks up at Azog and smiles thinly to herself. "Oh my, my mistress will /not/ be pleased."

GAME: Merek rolls will: (14)+13: 27

Mikilos sighs, disappointed, but unsurprised as the vampire and... ice demon? show up. "Hello Kol. How have you been? Madam. I don't believe we've been introduced." The elf rapidly murmurs a few phrases under his breath as he stands, drawing a wooden stake from his belt.

Azog likes it when evil people's mistresses are not pleased. He even smiles, just a tiny bit, pleased that this is going to be a fight against very bad people. Kol, he recognizes, but if the woman is his mistress, she's a slightly more important target, and so he'll bound to her, and slash hard with his bastard sword, the faint glow of corpselight hard to see in the room's normal illumination, but his thrust has his determination and zeal into it, and a lot of pent up aggression. He doesn't rage, but he's every bit of ferocious as his brethren when the fight's on. And it's so, so on.

Morgan looks to Kol "It is sad to see you here... I wonder if we made him evil, I so hate time traveling. I was hoping for a outerplane creature so many questions to ask."

Merek looks to the two as the spear swings about into the first one of them to come into the place, though probably it does not do a lot for him. Either way he manages to stay back and not try to fight.

Skribbles stands up, drawing her hammer and bringing it in front of her.

Faranmidahn is taken somewhat aback by the sudden arrival by the pair. It's one thing to hear someone may drop by, and, even being mystically (if feebly so) inclined, but another to see someone just 'pop' in out of the ether. She scrambles into the saddle and begins to chant as her empty hand takes to making a polishing motion before lightly touching her spider's shell, "Summer heat and winter tide, with nature's ire I do abide!" She's a sorceress, not a bard. <halfling>

GAME: Faranmidahn casts Endure Elements. Caster Level: 2 DC: 14

"Well, time ta earn my gold."

The two copper dreadfuls enter the room, and Volund feels the chill of despair deep down despite himself. Baring his teeth to reveal some some are silver, he's snapped out of his moment of hesitance when he sees the massive Orc rush in with a viciousness. Nodding, Volund looks down for a moment...then looks back up snarling, with his formerly blue eyes now a static electric glowing white from beneath the eyeholes of his cowled helm.

"Beware The Great Owl's talons, ya vampire F$#&K!"

On the back of his fists were three tattoos, and from them suddenly, three see-through almost ghostly owl talons are suddenly visible. And as Volund flies through the air like a vamp-seeking Dwarven Missile, all six of those talons were slashing at Kol's face and throat. Fools rush in, but the real geniuses fly in face-first.

The vampire moves like lightning, picking the tiny woman up and swinging her away from Azog's attack. It means that Volund is left behind as well, purely because the vampire is no longer where he started off being. The woman seems startled slightly by the fact that the vampire picks her up, but allows him to twist her out of the way and to safety. Relitive safety in any case. "Yukia." She says from where she is, smiling delightedly at Mikilos. "You need to come with us."

"Yes. Come with us my friend." Kol's voice is ernest, but his hand is dripping blood. It seems like it's been bleeding this whole time. Blood staining Mikilos' floor. "You want to come with us do you not?"

Well, if Kol Demontry wants to fight him, Azog will take the man up on it. Something was said about the woman being another lackey, not the mistress, so he'll let the others have at her. If he's going to jabber and yak to Mikilos and do some nefarious magic garbage, he'll make the vampire work for it. He knows he's not strong enough to take the man down in one shot, but hopefully he can hurt him enough to drive him off. So, with the fellow in his face, he bellows an Oruch challenge, deafening in this small room, and lays in with deadly blows from his sword, coming hard and fast, faster for invoking his Boots of Speed to Hasten himself further, and raining the blows down on Kol like the vengance of heaven.

If Volund had a clear mind and was thinking clearly, he'd probably be very embarrassed at landing on nothing, and landing in a rolling crouch. But the dwarf wanted blood...or, whatever these things spilled, in any case. Rising to his feet once more, the berserker was running at full speed toward the undead pair, this time turning and running down the woman in the blue dress. Nothing fancy this time, he just swung out a two-handed combination, slashing diagonally toward the woman's midsection while the group figured out how to deal with the other one.

Morgan sighs as she holds her hands out and says in the arcane language as a blue energy envelopes the ones on her side. Every one notices the world around them slow down just a tiny bit. "You know we could of all talked but now its a cluster fuck. Bloody twits."

GAME: Morgan casts Haste. Caster Level: 12 DC: 22

Mikilos blinks hard as the Suggestions hit his mind, but shakes his head, murmuring under his breath again. "Thank you, but no. Counter offer, Kol, -you- can come with -me-. Miss Yukia, as we've only just met, I don't think it would be appropriate to head off together. The rumor mills are rife enough." As he speaks, the wooden stake in his hand starts to glimmer with golden sparkles.

GAME: Mikilos casts True Strike. Caster Level: 13 DC: 20

Faranmidahn signals Torrent forward as she seizes the reins in her hand. There's a glance upward at the admonishment from above, which she isn't sure she's a part of, but takes the bite of anyway and tries to make sure she and her spider are in a position to support the mage with the stake as it seems he's decided to handle business. Almost as an afterthought, she suffuses her (relatively) long blade with some of her arcane energies should something try to flank them.

GAME: Merek casts Prayer. Caster Level: 7 DC: 16

Kol seems surprised by Mikilos' suggestion, but he grins at it. "Yes. I will go with you. This is good yes?" He's distracted enough by his wait for a reply that he doesn't even notice Volund attacking the woman he set aside a moment ago. She however /is/ paying attention, and neatly sidesteps his attack, disappearing and then reappearing halfway across the room beside Morgan.

"If one mage will not aid us, perhaps you will dear?" The woman with her pale eyes looks into Morgan's and smiles at her, emitting a cold burst of air that causes everyone in the room to shiver. Meanwhile Skribbles lands a solid hit on Kol, which... he seems not to notice even a little bit.

Merek looks to the woman, then to Kol, and back to Yukia. "It is nice to see you both," he mentions, then he takes a moment to look to them, lifting up what looks like a staff while he places that next to him, lifting two fingers while he chants an ancient prayer in Celestial, then he twirls the staff while he points that forward, "Kol, Yukia, it's been a while. You will not be taking anyone in this place today." He speaks with the assurance that only the divine can offer their servant.

Skribbles looks at her warhammer and says, "Huh...well, that didn't go nearly as well as I planned." She sighs a bit.

Mikilos holds out his hand, the glowing stake flying towards Kol by arcane forces (Apprentice's Hand). "Easier if you hold still." But the wizard keeps his hand out, willing to either try to take the vampire's hand, or let the vampire take his.

Morgan looks to the woman as she takes a step back "Hello, shame we all can not talk like adults." she then follows with a few more arcane words as she flickers out for a second and seems to now be a foot from where she was.

GAME: Morgan casts Displacement. Caster Level: 12 DC: 22

Azog grunts as his own mighty blows are ineffective, and with a grimace, he sloughs off his shield and drops his sword and he'll try to wrap up Kol in a tackle, though there's probably not much chance of that. On the other hand, he's Large, and very strong, and entirely determined to do something that's effective.

Well, Volund was 0 for 2, but he didn't strike out just yet. As he swings wildly at empty air, the stout dwarf looks out the corner of his eye and notices Azog attempting a classic mudscrimmage tackle that would even make a pro player proud. Reacting purely on instinct, Volund leapt up even as Azog was moving down, and the barbarian's plan was to slash at the back of Kol's neck and skull as the vampire was occupied with the giant Oruch trying to bring him down to the ground. A bit of unintentional teamwork, hopefully it would help slow the undead creature down a little…

GAME: Merek casts Summon Monster IV. Caster Level: 7 DC: 17

Faranmidahn wheels Torrent about to get a better pincer on the vampire with the most important figure in the room. On her signal, the spider rears up to take a bite, as she rears back with her infused blade to land her blow in time with his, "HAVE AT YOU!" she cries in challenge! Fierce! Halfling! Knight!

Is probably about to catch a yeet across the room.... <halfling>

Merek begins chanting while he spins his gestures within an arc, shifting forward while he pulls a candle to bring a light upon it, then a circle begins to appear, while thin black armor like plate looks like it shimmers upon him, then he opens up his own portal to the Planes. From before him a circle an archon in the form of what looks like it's from Veyshanti begins to come from it, a greatsword in those hands while it settles before him.

GAME: Zapolklnex casts Acid Splash. Caster Level: 2 DC: 14

It's a full on brutal attack on the vampire by nearly everyone. Azog grabs him from behind, holding him in place as Volund attacks viciously. The vampire barely moves in Azog's arms, but it's just enough to muss Mikilos' efforts to stab him in the heart. The stake hits Kol in the shoulder rather than the heart. Blood pours from the wound on his head and the spider adds its own attack as well, but Kol holds Mikilos's hand stubbornly. Showing just a touch of his vampiric strength in the way he clings to the other man. Blood splatters down the front of his shirt, drips around his neck. "Such passion, take me now Mikilos. Take me from temptation."

Again the image of the ice demon flickers, and she disappears before the archon can attack her; reappearing beside Morgan once more. "You can not escape me so easily. Come, serve my mistress, and all you seek will be revealed."

Mikilos grips the hand, and does as he asked. Or at least, attempts to. Murmuring rapidly, the elf casts his spell... and teleports, trying to take just the vampire with him.

GAME: Mikilos casts Teleport. Caster Level: 13 DC: 24

Volund lands after tagging Kol, and immediately the frenzied dwarf warrior is to his feet again and is running toward the ice demon with a blur of ground speed. Knowing the girl likes to teleport, without having any time to think about the strategy, Volund rolls behind the woman in the blue dress and slashes out with his talons, aiming to slice the back of the demon's hamstrings if she had any. That might ruin her day some. "HRAAAAAAGH!"

Merek looks between those that are fighting, while he notices that no one is winning, like he said it would be. Then he remembers those people with the illness, the words then from his friends. He said he would learn, would do what he can. He lifts up a hand while he begins to chant, looking then to that Archon, "NOW!" he calls to them while she nods, then she maneuvers to Yukia.

The Theurge begins to shift a whole creation of water which shimmers along things, then as the dogwoman comes to her, he comes from another side while he waits for her to attempt teleporting, swinging not to actually fight, but to take ahold of the woman, "You will take me with you!" He looks then to Morgan, wondering what she will do, but it looks like he's asking to come with them.

Skribbles realizes that she's not going to be able to do much hurt-wise in regards to the vampire so she raises her hammer again and swings as hard as she can at the vampire's knees, because no knees is the bee's knees..as the saying goes.

Azog is actually useful with this, so he'll continue to grapple the vampire, with thoughts toward breaking off pieces bit by bit, though he'll settle for trying to hold him still for the others to attack. It's the most effective he's been yet, and totally vindicates the training he'd discussed at the Temple of Angoron with Kravar and Arngrim just a couple weeks ago. -This- is why he needs to train harder in unarmed combat. And then suddenly, he's holding empty air. "Damned wizards," he grumbles. "They ask for your help, and then don't want it." He looks around for someone else to hit. It's gonna be a bad day for second banana.

Faranmidahn recoils as the odd... bonding moment ends in a teleport spell. Vaguely confused, she comes about, seeing the flying lady has a friend. A shiny ball is drawn from a pouch as she briefly releases the reins. With a mote of concentration, she infuses the ball with her magic as she had the sword, previously and in a notable case of potential -are-you-NUTS?- HUCKS the infused skipball at the icy lady's bean, just in time for, "Merek!" to try and glom onto her target, "-don't!"

The demon... has no intention of dealing with this without her ally, and instantly teleports herself... elsewhere. It's clear she's injured when she leaves though, a splotch of red blood touching her blue dress. She seems, to be smiling though. Smiling much the way that Kol is smiling when he disappears with Mikilos.

Zapolklnex sighs, and slumps back. Pulling the hood back off. "I was not particularly effective against threats that powerful. I could not even hit one. The caster is gone. Was that intended?"

For a few moments, Volund is still there on one knee, claws in the air as he breathes heavily. He turns his head looking for any trace of the threats. When he doesn't see anyone, the mystical talons seem to evaporate back into thin air, and the blood they were covered in fall to the ground and splatter across the back of the dwarf's bare hands.

After a moment the lightning fades from his eyes and he flops on to his backside in a sitting position, pulling that helmet off of his head to let his messy black hair hang wild and free. Covered in sweat, the pint-sized slasher looks around and speaks somewhat weakly.

"We're all safe, don't worry...I think I scared 'em off...It's hot as hell in this room, anyone notice that?"

Azog grumbles, but looks slightly pleased. "The fight did not end as I had hoped it would, but this vindicates my training goals. In that much, I am pleased. The rest, well, this is why wizards have no honor."

Morgan looks to Azog as she has wounds on her body from the combat that was going on "Do you think that of all Wizards, even the ones that fought by your side many times."

Merek does give a look to Faran as the ball comes their way. He gives a two-finger salute, perhaps a note that he's looking for a cure, to protect all those people, no matter what it brings to him. Which, he teleports away then with Yukia, the location, unknown.

Skribbles throws her hands in the air in a cheer, "Woo! We didn't die! Yeah!" She slings her hammer on her back and nods her head, placing her hands on her hips. "That was so...bad..."

Azog peers at Morgan, nods succinctly. "Spells are for those not brave enough to fight with steel." He's just a dinosaur, morals-wise. "And you see what good it's done. Our wizard is gone, and to who knows what end. If he'd just stabbed the man, this wouldn't have happened." Of course if he wasn't a wizard trying this spell, none of this would have happened. He shrugs again. "I am sorry if this makes you feel bad, this was not my intent. It's just how things are." At least in Azog's world.

Morgan shrugs "You can say what you want as for I do not care, words only harm me when it comes from a caster."

Zapolklnex clears his throat and walks right up to Azog. Looking WAY up to the large Orc, he folds his hands in his sleeves. "Spells are also for those who bide their time to take down evil empires that hide the truth and engage in unspeakable terrors, where brute force would just lead to your head on a dinner platter."

Volund eventually looks around at Azog's words, the stout warrior climbing to his feet slowly as opposed to his earlier energetic bounding and leaping. The expression on his now exposed face is one of disgust and disapproval.

“Waitaminute, wait a flamin' minute...the wizard is gone? Aw hell, how are we gettin' paid fer this then?!"

This is where Volund would turn and dramatically break or throw something valuable...but this room was empty and barren. Yet more frustration in the young dwarf's life.

Faranmidahn's skipball bounces off the wall to thud on the floor in the wake of more mystical displacement. The halfling herself stares in confused horror at the place her friend stood mere instants before. It takes her several more to utter a tight, whispered, "...no....!" as her sword falls from her hand to stick pointfirst in the floorboards. <halfling>

That Archon looks between them all, and uses teleportation to check up on things from its summoner before it always back into the Planes!

Mikilos hits the freezing water in the dark. He knows where he is, roughly at least. The river. In winter. At night. Being grabbed by a vampire. Though knocked about, the archmage manages to spit out a few arcane words and make the right gestures, the waters of the river moving with intelligence now, with two large whirlpools trying to drag down the vampire into the dark rushing depths.

But Kol is too strong for such efforts, swimming out of the elementals pull with relative ease, dragging the elf along behind him to the shore.

The vampire is... changed. As if the moments in the river had scoured the flesh from his bones. He's a horror to look at, but he grins at Mikilos. "Good, good! Is this what you wanted to share with me my friend?" Even as he speaks he begins to heal. Begins to repair himself. He holds Mikilos tightly to himself, hugging the elf.

Mikilos coughs, sputters, and shivers a little. "Mmm-mmmostly tto sssshare a mmmidnighttt ssswim. Butt I ddddo wonddder hhhow much yyou recall of thatttt nighttt all those yyyyears agggo, w-wwhen you wwere a bbboy?"

"Boy?" Kol leans in toward Mikilos, looking at him curiously then laughs. "I do not think on the past. Why would I? It can not give me the pleasure of the moment. What does the past have for me my friend?" The vampire does not release the elf, and yet his body does nothing to sheild from the cold. An undead body has no warmth to offer.

Mikilos nods, unsurprised, and tries to focus. He's an -elf- darn it, they're supposed to be good with nature! ...admittedly, frozen rivers are a bit much. "Too bad. You were a nice kid." Tucking a hand into his pocket, the wizard draws out glittering dust, letting it fall from his numbing fingertips as he tries to spit out the required words without stuttering.

As once before Mikilos' name is inscribed there, healed now. A scar. "You are Mikilos. You need to come with me..." The words make his green eyes glow, but there's no effect on Mikilos who is protected against such things. "My mistress wants you."

Mikilos tsks. "She had me before. I don't think I liked it. Though I don't recall much." The wizard throws himself against the grip holding him, not really expecting much of a result, but maybe it will distract from the two waves surging up from the river.

"My dear friend." Kol touches Mikilos' face, smiles at him kindly. "It will be different this time. Say yes, Mikilos, I do not want to kill you." Indeed the very thought makes Kol's slight smile become very small. Just the barest hint of a lift to his lips.

Mikilos considers a long moment, then tsks, glancing to the elementals. "Dig into the shoreline." Not much use at the moment, but it will help mark that -something- happened here in the dark. "Let me dry off before I freeze, and I give my word I will willing go along to your Mistress without further shenanigans."

Kol seems to consider this for a moment before his smile returns, broadly stretching across his face. "Very well," Kol shifts slightly, offering Mikilos his hand. "Come with me, I will see to it that you are made warm once more before you see her."

Mikilos tries to cast a simple cantrip... because everything is done better with magic. Just a minor cantrip to dry himself off before taking the vampire's hand, as promised.
