  • Title: Rocs Fall Everybody Dies, part 4
  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Braelnoir, Cryosanthia, MAC-B1G, Nels, Pelka
  • Place: Redridge Mountains
  • Time: Monday, August 17, 2020, 9:37 PM
  • Summary: The battle continues! Pelka avoids a leaping troll, then Nels is severly injured. Cryosanthia continues to press the Creepy Guy, ruining his spells, as Braelnoir is heavily wounded. Alchemical fire is used on the corpses to keep them from rising again. Pelka heals Nels, Braelnoir manages to land some damaging blows but the Trolls continue. MAC-B1G determines they are vulnerable to fire and switches to incendary pistons. The Creepy Guy finally tires of Cryo interfering with him and Wild-Shapes into an Air Elemental. Nels blasts Braelnoir's troll to pieces, and the acanian moves to assist the construct. Cryo tumbles into a position where she can use her breath weapon effectively, and nails the druid with it. Pelka and MAC land several death rays. The Druid taunts all and flees, chased by Cryo's dragon fireworks. The battle is won, but there are questions, heavily wounded and the strange significance of the number 16.

The party continues fighting the snow trolls and the Creepy Guy leading them.

Pelka spreads his wings and pushes off of the side of the mountain. He catches the air and sails over the troll that jumped to reach him earlier - and narrowly missed. But Pelka keeps himself carefully out of reach. The troll will have to try another leap. His large bulky deathray appears seemingly out of nowhere. A bolt of Egalrin-made electricty crackles into and through the monster.

GAME: Nels used a Alchemist's Fire.

Nels roots around in his pack, pulls out a flask. He snaps the top off, lighting the fuse, and hurls it at the downed troll, taking a step back as it shatters, spreading flaming goodness over the troll and giving Nels a nice toasty warm feeling.

As the troll switches targets and advances on Braelnoir, Cryosanthia lunges around her scale-sister and swipes at it. Her claws opening up a significant wound. "Watch your back Brae, incoming," she hisses at her fighting partner.

Then her attention turns to the Creepy Guy. She presses close to him, leering with her mouth full of wicked teeth, claws dripping, ready. Conversation is pointless, really, at this point, but a little taunting couldn't hurt. She growls, "Sure you planned this out correctly?"

Perhaps it will distract him.

The troll rushes in, and indeed, takes a painful strike from Cryosanthia. It's regeneration already seems to be working, of course, but it backpedals a step from the flames that Nels' action creates. Still, Braelnoir is injured by it.

There's a certain satisfaction drawing Brae's lips back from her teeth as she one-shots the troll. Her angle is such that she doesn't notice the second coming until after Cryo's snaked a claw swipe around her to try and interdict those that ultimately rake her back, regardless, drawing a gasp of pain. She turns with a snarl, bringing the scythe forcefully up past the creature's head "Keep" another swipe clears a leg, "on, " and the last rips the troll across the gut, "Brainy!" That said, the silver haired merc sidesteps back with a half turn to keep both of them in her sight, intending to help Cryo keep the presumed leader under pressure, ignoring the pain in her back for the nonce.

GAME: Creepy Guy rolls 1d20+16: (2)+16: 18 (Concentration check)

Displaced as he is, the creepy-fellow with the gangly limbs and robes skitters back another step, trying to get himself out of reach. He's cackling, seeming relatively sure of himself, even as he's unable to bring his magic to bear for the moment.

The gun goblin brought fire. Troll does not like fire. Fire bad! Gun goblin bad! Roawr! The snow troll turns on Nels and flails with it's long arms, reaching to slash and rend him. He is barely standing when it finishes its onslaught.

MAC-B1G notes the creature recoiling from Nel's incendiary alchemy. "Hypothesis: threat is flammable." Its manipulators begin to glow as power is redirected to the extremities and extrnal chassis, until they are red hot. These are then thrus at the threat in question to conduct testing of its hypothesis.

Pelka banks a wide swooping turn, running his sharp eyes across the battlefield. Then he turns his head back to look at Nels, who looks to be injured. Pelka tucks his wings and dives. He spreads them again to catch the air and skim across the ground, reaching out a hand...that holds a large syringe filled with a green substance that glows faintly. He barely avoids a swipe from the claw but manages to inject Nels with the healing mixture. "...it's a clean needle," he chirps, after the fact. The tiny ports in his boots flare and the Egalrin flips end over end, to land on the other side of the troll. At sometime in all the acrobatics his deathray disappears and a large wrench slides off of his forearm and into his waiting, now-empty hand.

Another swipe across Brael's back leaves her wounded but it doesn't do much more than that.

Fortunately.

Still, the other troll's efort on Nels is paid off as it rips into him, leaving him with streaming gashes through his armor and being more worn down. His healing is noted and the troll grunts in frustration.

GAME: Nels rolls craft/gunsmithing: (15)+12: 27

Nels is suddenly the main attraction at the troll buffet, and he is not pleased with this. But Pekla flies in and saves him, and he gives the Egalrin a thumbs-up. For his own part, he backpedals hastily to get some space, fiddling with his thunderbelcher to clear the misfired round and clear the action. He's quite adept at this, and manages to clear the round.

Cryosanthia is whip-like and difficult to shake, she's picked out an area and nothing is going to happen in it without her interfering. She hisses, lunging and circling to stay close to the Creepy Guy, while eye-ing the troll on Braelnoir. Just a little closer and you'll get some too.

"That's it, you know what the definition of insanity is, right?" She grins, just grins, her mouth so wide and so full of sharp teeth. Beaming raptor-like at the creepy troll-master-caster.

The creepy guy is annoyed.

"...hmm, no. This won't do. It's time to change the game!"

His form ... dissipates.

Just ... dissipates.

Into a swirling vortex.

An air elemental. He just changed into an air elemental. And a very large one, at that.

He just wild shaped. He's a scales-rotting druid! A druid, poisoning rocs.

This might just be enraging.

Chasing the mouthpiece costs Brae more gouges in her flesh, which throws off her swings at the leader of these things, and it's to some consternation, then that she turns again with a snarl, 'Knock it off!" as she brings her scythe accross the troll's pecs. She'll regret that. ...and Brael ALSO regrets it. Mostly because she just got raked and rended by claws significantly enough that she's vulnerrable.

It's not a good look for her for the moment.

MAC-B1G's faceplate rotates 150 degrees at the transformation. "Excessive mana manipulation detected. Engaging countermeasures." The cylindrical device articulates over its shoulder and telescopically extends. The fore end is caught in its cooling manipulator while the other primes the device. "Nethercite concentration: maximum." It then looses a bolt of energy that passes through where the elemental appears to be.

Pelka hefts his wrench. He holds it with one hand and pats the large wrench-head against the open palm of his other. Then he grasps the handle with both hands and swings. A large faintly glowing brick grasped in the teeth gives it more momentum, smacking the troll in the abdomen, the heavy blow bouncing off and partially throwing Pelka himself off balance. Rather than recover he swings again with a backswing, this time slamming solidly against the troll's midsection. Pelka then slowly tilts his head back to look up at the creature's head. "Uh...ah...it's not too late to talk this out."

Nels is back in the groove now. The white lizard dives, ducks and rolls springing back to her feet. Her tail lashes behind her. She had to move, she would have hit the party, but now she can let go. Stance wide, hands clenched at her side, she screams and roars. Her neck lights up with a glacial blue glow, and she drops her jaws.

Yup.

She regrets it...

The troll's assault has the Acanian staggering as filthy claws sheer through flesh and ensorcelled steel with equal celerity as her sister cries out in alarm, and she nearly sinks a trembling knee to the sand in the wake of it, great rivulets of her blood pooling around her feet. She looks up into her would-be killer's face with a sneer as Nel's gunplay suddenly douses her in the troll's blood in fire and thunder. "Hah..! What..." she pulls a small ampuole of alchemists fire to set the creature alight, "HE said!" She pants raggedly two more times, then turns as her eyes slit golen and silver claws erupt from her fingertips and she roars as she moves in to yet still press the elemental, a wounded dragon is an -angry- dragon.

Pelka catches a swirling mass of air out of the corner of his eye and then is sent spinning. By the time he recovers he's forgotten all about the troll and now is squared off with the elemental. "AERIAL COMBAT?!" Pelka shrieks, voice shrill with fear. Or excitement. Or both. Probably both. The artificer pulls his goggles down in place over his eyes. His torso hunches a bit so that his body is almost upright, lower body and legs extended below while his wings are nearly horizontal (and still moving at Hastened speed). Pelka begins to fly backwards away from the alleged druid. His wrench merges with his arm and the deathray appears from nowhere. Pelka slows to fire off another bolt of electricity and then is backpedalling in mid-air once again.

He's not paying close attention to his aim, and one of his shots goes wide, but three out of four hits is not bad. Not full points at the target range, but good enough for adventuring. He sure hopes it's good enough for adventuring.

"Get him Sparky."

Cryosanthia flips her left hand through a quick arcane gesture, there's a swirl of flickering lights along her scales, out along her arm to concentrate on her index fingertipe. A tiny fiery dragon appears, and she points at the elemental druid.

It zig-zags away from her hand, into the air elemental where it explodes in a shower of sparks that are whipped around and around by the wind.

The elemental up-up-and-awaying doesn't help the incensed warrior's mood, and, almost drooling between gnashed teeth, Brae vents her hate in a snarl before her now golden eyes swivel about to seek new meat. With a grunt of effort, she is off like a silver and crimson missile as, with a savage yowl, she cuts the final troll down in a fierce charge.

"Ut-tut-tut-tut, friends! I will see you agaiun, and soon! PErhaps I'll bring a bigger troll next time! And those rejects at the Union will BURN!"

And then he's gone.

Fast.

"You're not my friend! But hey, be friends with sparky!" Cryosanthia shouts. Her fiery little dragon appearing on her hand, streaking off into the distance as she points at the fleeing druid.

He's too fast. He's already out of range. He'll get away.

Exhaling hard, her words are a sigh, "You'll want to step back a little." She points at each of the trolls, sending her little dragon into their corpses to explode a farewell for each of them, then the last two are sent up overhead. It's festive, a victory of sorts.

"Excellent work everyone."

Pelka returns to the party. "That was the strangest druid I've ever met," he says in a subdued voice. Then he looks in the direction of the last Roc's nest they came across. "I wonder if he was serious about coming back. It may not be safe anymore up here. Not even for gigatic flying magical creatures."

In the wake of all the targets taking off, and Cryo's festive solution to the troll's regeneration, Brae tries to rein in the hate. Between blinks, her eyes return to normal and the silver claws retract into nothingness and the woman, barely standing before her rage, is overtaken by the fatigue in it's aftermath and collapses against the sith.
