Supplies. They're always needed for any war effort and the hostilities between Rune and Dran are no exception. And supplies need guards which is where you all come in. You all find yourselves riding an airship towards Rune. Unfortunately, this airship is needed for another mission sooner than it would take to get all the way to Rune and back and no wizards are available for teleportation, so near the border of Dragonier, the airship sets down in a large clearing and offloads the supplies and you. Once you and the supplies are sitting in the clearing, the captain of the airship bids you farewell, "The next airship will be along to pick you up in the morning. You've got supplies enough to get through the night without digging into those meant for Rune. Good luck." He gives you a salute before he turns and gives orders for the airship to return to Alexandria. The sun is nearly below the horizon already and your night begins...

Tim sighs as he settles down, "I love airship travel, its so comfortable." He looks around for a bit, "We likely won't be able to make a fire, probably don't want anyone spotting us from a distance. No warm supper..." he grimaces at this thought.

Tiasa frowns and shakes her head, "Not whatss expect when ssign on for guardss duty." she says as the large sith takes a look around the clearing. She moves through it checking for tracks and such, as just their luck they were set down in some nesting grounds or something.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Perception or Survival check, Tiasa."

GAME: Tiasa rolls survival: (5)+9: 14

You paged Tiasa with 'You don't notice any tracks in the clearing. The ground is rather firm and covered with low grass.'

"Charming" drawls Rakim as he glances at the retreating airship "...and I had a date with a most delightful young acolyte this evening" he laments, his rich tones dripping with theatrical lamentation. His eyes do not match his general demeaour however, they are faintly cold and hard as they scan the area, one hand dropping down under his leather coat.

GAME: Rakim rolls survival: (10)+11: 21

Terewin finds a comfortable perch between some of the boxes and lounges about, not really looking all that prepared for anything other than a suprise attack from an errant nap. "Easy job, nobody to yell at, no tunnels or monsters to go slay. Wait and sit around and wait for trouble to come to me. Its the way things should be, wonder if its asking too much for thieves and bandits to impale themselves on my sword? Save me the hassle." he notes looking up at the sky.

Tim chuckles, "I had a date with a fine resteraunt, had to wait weeks to get a table." He sighs, "Ahh, the chef was consider a master." He shakes his head, "I need to learn to cook for myself honestly, magical food tends to end up bland."

Supplies are vital, especially those people can't easily find on their own, like medical supplies. All the more reason Kira came to help. Getting the supplies there means many, many helped, and maybe ease some of the suffering from the useless war. "Hopefully no trouble comes to us," she offers up to Terewin. "It's better for everyone that way."

You paged Rakim with 'You find signs of wildlife having passed through within the last few hours. Nothing that would be threatening to a group of adventurers. There're also some faint boot prints, several days old.'

Tiasa shakes her head, "At leasst doessn't sseem like is nesssting groundss. Wouldn't be bad if was, would get good eatins tonight. Just have to work for dinners." The sith stretches, her dark armor swirling like a stormcloud occasionally crackling with electricity across it. "Ssoo. Tiassa I am." she offers as she doesn't think she knows most of them.

Vodrick clambors along the tops of the boxes and crates to get a look at the area around them. He had never been this far from home before and his excitement was easy to see on his face. "I knew sticking with you guys would lead to new and exciteing places but this....I had never been in an airship before this!" he says with a wide grin. "I wonder what the people of Rune will be like in person. OH! I wonder what kind of stores and shops they have!" He rambles on like this for a fair while occationally hopping from crate top to crate top. Near the end of the line his foot slips, however, and with a whirling of arms and a sudden yelp of surprise he falls from the edge and into a crevace between two of the larger ones. A small voice replys from within shortly there after "I'm fine......ow"

Rakim's long lashes flutter as he glances downwards to Tim's ample girth, then up with a sardonic smile "A few days on short rations might prove beneficial Master Elf" he drawls as his gaze shifts back to the ground. His sardonic smile fades as he hmms "Some wildlife, and boot prints from a few days ago" he drawls a little whilst squatting and moving along to trace them "Hmmm..." he muses thoughtfully.

Terewin shakes his head at Kira even as he lays on the box staring into the sky "Oh there will be trouble, there always is. Its the curse of being a handsome, heroic knight. Trouble always follows, demanding heroism." its not clear wether he is joking or not.

Tim grunts, "I work hard to carry my own rations, I'm going to make a few of those magic bags or backpacks for myself. Never be without two weeks worth of food...for me." He grins.

The sun continues to sink below the horizon and soon the clearing is plunged into darkness. The only source of light are the stars in the clear night sky as the moon hasn't yet risen. Unless, of course, someone has their own source of light they wish to employ.

Vodrick crawls out from between the crates and stands to pat the dust off of his cloak and looks over towards Kira. He offers a smile and wanders over towards her with a friendly wave "So, I had heard a few rumors about Rune, but I have to say I don't really have a whole lot of solid information. Is there anything in particular I should know? perhaps about the people or the area in general?" he asks attempting to make coversation

Kira looks to Rakim, now. "Anything recent? Do we know how long until they pick up the supplies."

Tim rests, waiting for the arrival and hoping nothing happens. He did pull out some of his personal food to eat for himself, and some of the rations left for them. He only takes a fair share, his excess food, that he brings himself.

Tiasa shrugs and stretches a little. She looks at each in turn as if sizing them up before she finds a good spot and plops down onto the ground. Her tail moves back and forth a bit once she does.

"And so modest as well..." stage whispers Rakim in reply to Terewin. He frowns again down at the boot prints, lips pursing in thought. At last he straightens "Speaking of food we should get a fire going, and set up some kind of watch system." He suggests whilst drawing his crossbow from beneath his coat and engaging the various mechanisms until it is read to fire if needed. That done he looks to Kira and arches an finely scupted eyebrow "As I said..." he begins with a faint frown "...nothing recent of note"

Vodrick perks up at the mention of watch and raises a hand. "I could manage that for a time. We had archers back home in the shires stationed to keep an eye for trouble. I....may not have made it into their ranks before leaving, but I did try. If I maybe got into a high spot like a tree and kept my back to the campfire...or at least when we get one, then I should be able to make out any strange movements. Though, not for too very far in the dark admitidly." he adds

Tim shakes his head, "Fire would ruin your night vision, and with the cargo can block any wind for us. I think we will be fine. Fire also gives us away, drawing any bandits for miles at night."

Kira nods to Rakim, then to Tim. "He does have a point, and it isn't cold. I wouldn't mind the fire for light, but no reason to draw attention to ourselves or the supplies." Her smile pans to Vodrick. "I can relieve you if you want to take the first watch."

Tiasa nods her head, "I can watch when it iss my time. Fire or not, I can eatss my meat raw." she nods, "Well watch would be besst to sstand away from light anyway, eassier ssee thingss in the dark that way." she stretches as she sits there and digs into her pack and pulls out a small bag and starts to munch on whatever is inside.

"It also allows us to cook food, and scares away most wild animals. And this is why when you watch you keep your back to the fire" Rakim explains, his voice sounding a little exasperated as he adds "On the chance anyone missed a airship descending and unloading both cargo and humanoids, certainly a fire will be so much more obvious. Still if folks insist on cold rations and a cold night don't let logic deny you" he drawls with a shake of his head as he wanders towards a perimeter.

Vodrick pulls the hood of his cloak up and gives a short (no laughing) salute and a sure grin "Leave it to me. If I see anything I will whistle, in the meen time I should probably get into possition." he says before running off to a nearby tree to take up his post. He figured the leaves would hide him while the elevation would give him a decent view

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Give me an Athletics check, Vodrick. ;)"

GAME: Vodrick rolls athletics: (6)+5: 11

You paged Vodrick with 'You have trouble getting very far off the ground on your first attempt. If you want to Take 10 on your next attempt, you would be able to make it. Barely. ;)'

Vodrick reaches the tree he decided to claim as his perch and glances up at the branches. He rubs his hands together in anticipation for the climb and leaps for one of the lower branches. He grasps on firmly and smiles at his success. As he goes to pull himself up, however, He failed to realize that the branch was rather wilted, and the shift in his minor weight was enough to dislodge it from the tree. With yet another yelp he falls back to the ground and curses in Lucht under his breath. He stands and dusts himself off for another try after he catches his breath a little.

Vodrick pages: I shall do that, and as far as prepareing the arrows, it is a simple modification with common items. Just prepareing 3 incindiary arrows with a vial each of lamp oil tied off just behind the tips if possible. Just for added "oomf" I would normally use alchemist fire, but I don't have any yet x_x

When Tim has finished eating enough to fill himself, tonight only enough for two men. He doesn't need much rest, so he will be one of the watch shifts tonight, easily taking several hours if necessary.

Kira sets her stachel down and pulls some trail rations from it. Before she really digs in, though, Vodrick's yelp gets her attention. She stands up to head for him and his choice of tree. "Would you like some help?"

Tiasa cocks her head to the side, "Could just throw him into tree. Good for him." she hasn't gotten up yet after all two on watch is good enough for now. She looks at the othes for a moment.

"It looks like you are having a -little- trouble with that tree Master Lucht" Rakim drawls with a sardonic twist of his lips. With that he pulls a package from one of the many pockets of his coat and unwraps a large bit of pemican. Glancing down at it with a touch of distaste he shrugs and starts to chew on his cold meal stolidly.

Vodrick glances up at the woman offering her aid and blushes slightly beneath his hood. "Maybe a little. I had forgotten the most fundamental part of our watchtowers. ...They had ladders" he grumbles He then looks between her and the tree and thinks "If I could perhaps just get a lift to one of the sturdier branches, I should be fine from there."

Tim chuckles, "I never could climb trees." He winks, knowing the reason is obvios.

Tiasa shakes her head a bit and shrugs, "Trees easy, they have limbs, try cliffs, harder." she shakes her head, "or trees in jungle have to go higher to get limbs."

"Of course," Kira came over to offer her help, so she does. She gives Vodrick interlocked hands to step up on or a full body lift, whatever he prefers to get him up there.

You paged Vodrick with 'You're good now with Kira's help. No need to roll. Just pose getting into the tree and settling in with your arrows.'

Finishing off his supper he washes it down with something from a flask. That done he shifts around and up to his knees. One hand makes the sign of the crescent moon in front of his chest then he pulls out a holy symbol. His head turns to the moon and sky above as he lips move in quiet prayer.

Vodrick allows her to lift him up to one of the sturdier brances and pulls himself up a bit higher to allow the leaves to hide him from view, but not so much so that he couldn't see from them. He smiles down at her sheepishly and gives a quick wave to let her know he is set before relaxing in the curve of a larger branch and drawing out 3 arrows. With a bit of finesse, he begins doctoring the shafts while holding what seems to be a twig of some kind between his teeth. as he works he is continueously glancing around at the surroundings and, once finished, he sets the arrows aside within easy reach and gives his full attention to his watch.

You paged Vodrick with 'Go ahead and roll Stealth to hide among the leaves.'

GAME: Vodrick rolls stealth: (8)+13: 21

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Everyone give me a Perception check please."

GAME: Terewin rolls perception: (15)+7: 22 GAME: Vodrick rolls perception: (6)+9: 15 GAME: Tim rolls perception: (5)+8: 13 GAME: Tiasa rolls perception: (12)+9: 21 GAME: Rakim rolls perception: (8)+13: 21 GAME: Kira rolls perception: (6)+10: 16

You paged (Terewin, Tiasa, Rakim) with 'No sound has reached your ears, however, there is firelight moving towards the clearing from the west. You can't see the source of the fire yet because of the trees, but it does look like several individual sources moving independently.'

Rakim's eyes drop down from the moon as it seems his prayer is over. His lips purse as he catches sight of something out there "Looks like we may have some company" he says quietly, shifting to some cover as he aims down his crossbow.

Tiasa nods, "Someone comesss." she hisses as she notices the firelight in the distance. She is glad that her eyes adjust from darkvision to lowlight easily torches are a pain otherwise. She does get herself up and shakes a bit before the large sith tries to move to the west side of the clearing and get a good stealthy spot to try and see more of what might be coming.

Terewin sits up from his perch near the stash and and draws his sword, looking around to get the attention of the others without making a bunch of noise. "Yeah... lights." he murmers and he gets ready for a fight.

Tim blinks a few times, and struggles to get to his feet, hiding by some of the cargo. He looks around, trying to find what folks are talking about, but he doesn't say anything Except to cast a quick spell.

GAME: Tim casts Mage Armor. Caster Level: 4 DC: 18 GAME: Tiasa rolls stealth: (10)+9: 19

Vodrick makes some final adjustments on his preped arrows and glances around the clearing from his perch. he doesn't see anything out of the ordinary, but hearing the others speak, he looks down at them and blinks in a bit of confussion as they start moving around the camp. Not wanting to give away his possition, he doesn't say anything, but he does begin trying to pay a bit more attention the the surrounding area. He shifts a bit in his little tree nook to try and get a better view of the surroundings.

Kira doesn't see anything, but she can hear the others just fine. She stands up and looks... that way, curious. "Does anyone know who it is?"

With everyone now looking to the west side of the clearing, everyone can now see the approaching firelight. Several individual sources of light moving independently of one another, though the actual source of light is concealed by the trees.

But only briefly. Suddenly, several skeletons emerge from the treeline and start moving towards you. And every single one of them is on fire. The grass singes and blackens everywhere they step. Luckily the grass isn't dry enough to completely ignite the entire clearing.

Terewin bounds across the grass at the skeletons, bringing his sword across the skull of the skeleton and shattering it to pieces. At the last moment he is able to bring up his hand to ward off being hurt when it explodes but still gets burned by some of the flaming bone bits. At least he protected his face.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Miss."

"Possibly something not to hug" Rakim suggests towards Kira. As he gets a better look at what lies under the flames he rests his crossbow and lifts a hand. He chants in some unusual language as a silvery glow forms in the palm of his upraised hand and shines out, to do absolutely nothing to a nearby tree.

Kira rushes over to help Terewin, moving very quickly. "Hold on!" Surprisingly, she ends her sprint with a kick at one of the flaming skeletons. Maybe it surprises her, too, because she kicks for the gut... and her foot goes right past the spine where it doesn't have a gut.

Tiasa roars quite ferally. Her body seems to swell, bones cracking a bit, her fingers extend and turn into wicked looking claws. The sith surges forward and moves between the skeletons and the cargo. She takes a deep breath in and spits a bolt of lightning at the skeletons. She manages to hit two of them though it doesn't do too much.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Five of them are about 30' from the cargo atm, though they're not all bunched up."

Vodrick draws one of his doctored arrows back and takes aim at one of the skeletons that seem to be near one of his buddies. He isn't sure what this will do to bones that already seem to be on fire, but he figured if nothing else he could learn something fromt he experiance. He takes aim Right between the skeleton's ribs and fires away. Sticking the arrow into it's spine he smiles and watches as the vial catches and flashes brightly. He shielded his eyes but when he looked back expecting to see a pile of bones...he instead doesn't seem to have slowed it down at all" ok.....so we learned that doesn't work in the slightest..." He then tucks himself against the tree hoping to hide his silouette a bit among the leaves as best he can.

<OOC> Terewin says, "Don't suppose that hits for the counterattack?"

"Oh..." Rakim starts to swear elegantly in different languages as the flaming skeletons run straight for the cargo they are supposed to be protecting. He glides foward smoothly and lifts the crossbow up to his shoulder. A squeeze of the trigger and a heavy bolt shoots out to slam into one of the damaged creature, the flaming skeleton exploding.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "It does not."

GAME: Aenyn rolls 1d4+1+1d6: (2)+1+(3): 6 GAME: You damaged Kira for 6 points. 38 remaining.

One of the skeletons tries to claw Terewin, but he's ready for it, blocking the claw with his sword, then coming around for a counterattack that glances off the bone of the arm without doing any real harm. Another claws at Kira, finding flesh and searing it in addition to slashing it. Out of the remaining four skeletons, two are still prone, trying to get up in the patch of grease left by Tim while the other two approach the cargo and start trying to smash the crates. They haven't done much damage to the treated wood, but who knows how long it will resist the flames.

It is now Tiasa's turn! Vodrick is next!

Kira is only a little used to skeletons. Not so much to exploding ones. She strikes quickly at the one that clawed her, striking to put body and spirit to rest, where they deserve to be. The flames singe her more, but when she breaks ribs, it explodes. Lucky for her, she ducks aside. Maybe not so much for Terewin. "Sorry!"

<OOC> Tiasa says, "so how far away are the skeletons since they moved past me to the cargo, could I 5'step and be up in face of a couple?"

<OOC> Vodrick says, "first, trying to get out of the tree quickly. and if I have enough time, slingin a bullet at the dome of any skulls I see near the crates."

Tiasa doesn't like that the skeletons get by her. She managed to get a piece of one with one of her claws and then turns and surges forward a bit, whipping claws again at skeletons, one claw at two different ones. She misses the first skeleton but the second rips it apart. She shrugs off the resulting explosion, howling ferally.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Give me an Acrobatics check, Vodrick."

Vodrick brings the handle of his bow up to his mouth and holds the grip in his teeth. He then slides down the branch, and using each limb as a hand hold, he quickly scuttles his way down the side of the tree. He lands with a soft thump and in one Fluid motion, he turns, draws and arrow, lines up a shot, and fires strait for the skeleton attacking the cargo. His aim is true and the arrowflys strait for the skeleton's skull......only to deflect off o the hardened bone and fly off into the night. He fumes and with subtlety whatsoever, all he can do is shout. "Oh Come on!"

<OOC> Aenyn says, "Hit. It's pushed away. The fire on the skeleton isn't extinguished, however the cargo is a bit wet now."

Rakim stands his ground between the burning skeletons and the valuable cargo. His lips move in a prayer "Silver lady bless my bolts with your wrath" he intones and a silvery glow does appear over the intricate filigree of his fancy crossbow. He inhales, holds his breath and squeezes, the bold flying true as exploding another flaming undead.

The skeleton rakes at Kira, but she's too agile for it to hit this time. The other two skeletons continue to have problems with the grease. One nearly makes it back to his feet only to fall back down again. The other seems about as coordinated as a turtle on its back.

Tim notices that the flaming enemies are dwindling, then he focuses on the remaining one and charges up some magical juice. A few arcane words and a bolt of force energy is hurled at the skeleton. It goes up in its usual fireball.

GAME: Tiasa ends her rage. GAME: Aenyn removes the timestop. Timestop by Aenyn has left. GAME: You remove the timestop.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "The last skeleton is destroyed. Free RP."

Vodrick grumbles to himself at the failure of his arrows he figures the bone is just too hard for him to get any sort of penatration. He thinks a moment and reaches for his sling hoping a bullet would be a bit more effective then the points of his arrows. He winds up the sling and lets it fly....only to watch the bullet fly harmlessly into the dirt beside the skelotons head. "For the love of!.......I need to practice with this thing more.."

Rakim's faintly cold gaze sweeps the remnants of the battlefield as his gloved hands automaticaly reload his crossbow "Rather curious timing" he drawls, his voice languid but his gaze is intent as he looks around "To point out the obvious someone sent these creatures of dark magic. Someone who knew we would be here. This was set up ahead of time..."

Tiasa Growls and roars and leaps out of the grease. She lands and then her claws change back into fingers and her muscles seem to shrink a bit and she calms. She looks around, "I hate undead, can't eat them." she growls.

The grease vanishes after a bit, and Tim looks around to make sure nothing else is coming. Then he calmly sits down, and opens a pouch to pull out some bread, taking a bite.

"Is everyone alright?" Kira asks as she walks back to the others and the supplies. "I have some potions to heal if anyone needs them." She gingerly goes through her satchel with burned hands.

Vodrick sighs and pulls himself to his feet before replacing the bow and his sling to their respective places. he grumbles to himself about "damned skeletons" and wanders over to where tim is and plops himself down beside him in a huff. "I got 3 silver with your name on em if you happen to have any wine" he mutters

With the last of the skeletons gone, silence falls on the clearing, the sounds of battle having scared away the nocturnal wildlife nearby. There are no signs of further flames in the surrounding woods. At least the moon is out now and its full glow offers ample light in the clearing.

Tim does have a winskin on him, which he hands to Vod. "No charge."

"No hugs tonight Sister?" Rakim drawls towards Kira, unable to resist needling her a little. He saunters over towards the skeletal remains of skeletons and squats down to examine them "I would consider following the tracks, but I would guage is best to stay with the cargo no?" he says, rather more seriously.

Tiasa nods, "We are here for the cargo, not to go hunting." she shakes her head a bit.

Kira pulls out a kit to bandage her hands. "I hold life sacred. Those things were not alive. They were just shells, bodies that deserve rest." She explains, but also adds a bit of smile. "If you didn't notice, they were one fire, too."

Vodrick accepts the wine skin with thanks and takes a good long pull from the skin. It was a bit bigger then one meant for his size, so it was a bit of a struggle, but he still managed to leave a decent dent in the contents before he removes the end from his lips with a deep breath "Well, for all the good I would do against those things apparently. My arrows didn't even scratch them! And I know my aim was right on target. I don't know where they came from, but as far as I am concerned, they can stay there. I want as little to do with more of them as possible." He then hands the wine skin back to Tim and reaches into his vest for a pipe he keeps on him for just such occations.

Tim will shrug and take a drink from the wineskin. "You lived, you learn. Lessons for all of us here. The least of which is its not easy to hurt a skeleton."

"You hold some life sacred, not the many lives that things like Ogres take" Rakim points out as he drifts along the tracks slowly, but not getting out of sight just yet. A frown darkens his face as gloved fingertips trail along the dirt beneath "I do have a duty to root out dark magic, but..." pausing he looks down at himself then the others then back to the darkness and with a sigh starts back towards the cargo.

The skeletons' tracks are very easy to follow back towards the treeline considering they scorched the grass with every step.

Kira sighs. "Yes, some people do bad things. That doesn't mean all people are bad, whether they're human, khazad, ogre, bugbear, wolves, or anything else. "

Tiasa has disconnected.

<OOC> Aenyn says, "We can call it here. Nothing else will attack before the next airship arrives in the morning."

"That presumes one thing..." Rakim replies as he folds his hat brim back down "That Ogres and Bugbears are actually people. Not carnivorous evil monsters" with that he settles himself down on some of the softer cargo and wrapping his coat around him settles in for the night.

Vodrick has left.

Tim has left.
