PrP: Vadran Patrol

A message arrives from the Mayor of the Village of Vadran, to one of the officials at the adventurer's guild in Alexandria, asking for a group for a patrol around the city. Interested parties should inquire with the Mayor. Being as you're all here, it's presumed that you're interested, and so the Mayor of Vadran meets you in one of the village's taverns, "Welcome, welcome. Have a seat then, and we'll get started."

Tak smiles and takes a seat, "I am happy to help, I have heard of the troubles here in the village."

Elessa steps into the tavern, looking around for a few moments as the Mayor greets those that have come as well for the task. Ready for trouble, she has her armor on, sword in hand, a quiver over her shoulder with her unstrung bow in it just in case. She does have one headscarf tied around her head, going down her back and dangling longer than her hair. She looks over and smiles at the Mayor as she takes a seat, not saying anything just yet.

Rogun has included Vadran in his frequent travels outside of Alexandria ever since the giant wasp incident. When a call went out for adventurers he, indeed, responded but has otherwise kept out of the way as others trickled in.

When the Mayor arrives and bade him to sit he did so nodding in affirmation to Tak's words.

Sebropert really hadn't left Vadran since things began, and any opportunity to clear the scene was welcome. The black scaled Sith'Makar scratched at his own leathery hide as he made himself a space to rest. Pushing aside a chair he squated down, making a tripod with his tail. He nods his head and bares his sharp teeth in greetings to others who have chosen to step up.

Clearing his throat, the mayor offers a brief nod to those gathered, offering a smile to those he recognizes from previous encounters, "Welcome, welcome. I'm sure you all know that Vadran has been having.. issues. Well, nothing much has changed. But, with the help of some of the adventurers from Alexendria, we've gotten to the point where we've got decent defenses around the village, and we're wanting to take a.. shall we say.. more proactive approach. And that's why you're here. We need some people to do some road patrols. For the most part, it's the usual. Sightings of some sort of humanoids running off at night with livestock." He pauses for a moment, "But... well, a few of the local sons of some farmers have gone missing, too." He takes a pained expression and shakes his head, "Nasty business, that. Young lads, and typical for them to get into mischief, but they've been lost a week or so now, with no sign."

"A week.." Rogun repeats the words calmly and with a tone that sounds like he considers that an exaggerated period of time for any number of youths to go missing before search parties are gathered, "..are we the first to venture after them..?" He makes an offhand gesture towards Sebropert as if such information might be of particular concern to the Sith'Makar.

Clearing his throat then he manages himself to his feet without much difficulty.

Elessa listens to what the Mayor wants them to do. Patrols? That's it? Patrols? "How long do you want us doing these patrols?" she asks, a little after Sebropert says his question. The boys are important to, but how long they have to be at this... Well she'd rather know before she really agreed to being stuck on a road for a month doing nothing but watching for criminals.

The dark Sith'Makar's large skull-like head nods slowly the frills down the back of his neck rising and falling slowly. "Week ago, maybe more. Killed death walkers near here." His large nostrils flared as he breathed deeply. "May be more," he warned before going silent and letting the Mayor answer the other's questions.

The mayor looks at Rogun with a frown, "Well of course you're not. We sent out search parties, and there was no sign of the boys. Just rumors here and there. Something about ghosts at one of the old farms that's been abandoned for several years. It's been the type of place where young lads will dare each other to go spend the night." he chuckles, "When my own son went, when he was younger, he only made it until nightfall, then spooked himself and came running home."

The mayor shrugs, then, as he turns to respond to Elessa, "Couple days? If there's something out there, we just need them to know that we've got patrols going around, so they won't think they've got free reign, anymore, with the troubles we've been having. It'll do some of the farmsteaders good to see you out, too." The mayor shakes his head once more, "I don't expect you to find the boys... but if you can find out what happened to them? It'd be a mighty big help to put the family's minds to rest."

Turning towards the Sith'Makar, he nods slowly, "And maybe the bodies of the boys to rest, too. Yes."

Rogun accepts that answer though he doesn't seem to like it. His bushy brows furrow and he regards both Seprobert and Elessa for a moment before nodding, "Very well.." He says and seems prepared to journey.

"I'll leave it to you all to decide..." The mayor adds as the group gathers to go, "The Hallstead farm, the one that's rumored to be haunted? That's up north. Off to the west of here are the farms where people have had livestock go missing."

Elessa nods as her question is answered and she hears about the others in turn. She falls silent, not having much else to ask at this point, just waiting to get started.

Rogun asks, "Is the Hallstead farm abandoned?"

The Mayor responds, "Supposed ta be. One traveller coming by did mention something about hearing some commotion up that way. But, aint nobody lived there for twenty odd years, now, I think?"

Rogun hrms, "Sudden rumors of activity on an abandoned farm could be a ruse for something else." He remarks, "..but rather than chasing rumors I believe we should start where the living are most obviously effected - with the livestock slaughter."

Elessa looks to the others. "Definitely something to check out," she offers to the rest of the 'patrol'. She's up for it at least.

Sebropert offers a silent nod of acquiessence.

Tak nods too

"Well, best of luck then!" the mayor wishes the party, "Stop by and let me know what you've found, and I'll see the contract upheld with the guild."

And with that, the party sets out. It's still early, but the sun is up and bright. 2 poses of RP while travelling on the road, if you like. 5 minutes. Go!

Tak has no horse, but does know how to ride if one is provided. He travels with the others, remaining quiet and introspective most of the time.

Setting out with the others, Rogun bears a small pack and wears a leather vest adorned with various pouches. He picks his way down the trail with a plain looking walking stick although the crossbow attached to his pack seems far more useful should the group find any trouble.

He spends the time mostly by politely interrogating the others and would possibly only fall silent should Tak, or any of the others, tell a story of any interest. Though, if its a factual account, the interrogation is resumed for details he believes may be left out.

If pressed for it he will tell stories of the Golden Coast containing Djinn, Slavers and Elemental Lords in a burning desert.

The group travels its way along the road, chatting and telling its stories, presumably in hushed 'forest tone' voices. To the south of the road, Sebropert scouts, and on the north side, Rogun's thrush hops from tree to tree, keeping a watch out.

You paged Elessa with 'Since you got the highest roll, you're the first to notice... you're not alone. There's a humanoid figure hiding behind some trees (where the first arrow is) and you think you caught sight of some movement where the 'rustle rustle' is. Pose it.'

Elessa walks along with the others, looking around, keeping her eyes on the trees around them. As they go, the young woman eventually slows down and holds up her hand to the others. Not saying a word, she points to her eyes and then off in the direction a bit north of their position, nearly straight ahead of them. This is followed by her pointing to her ears, and then pointing to a distance further off a bit.

You paged Rogun with 'Okay, you hear something where the 'rustle rustle' is on the map, and your Thrush returns as well, whistling and worbling. Can you communicate with your familiar? I'm still new-ish to PF specifics.'

Tak raises a hand to stop everyone, then puts his finger to his lips and points off in the direction of a faint noise. He makes hand speech <<Be wary>>

Sebropert is silent as he moves, the Sith'Makar dropping to all fours as he scouts to the south of the road. His snout snuffles occasionally to see if that acrid scent the last undead carried marked here as well.

As he creeps further along he stops, his framing lowering to the ground. His skull-like head dark against the ground peers out from the foliage, his blue eyes staring pointedly in the direction of a noise he had heard. Pulling back further into the underbrush he makes to circle round to put it between himself and his allies.

When Tak signals for them to stop Rogun obeys. He looks outwards towards the tree line, squinting, as the hair on the back of his neck stands on end. "Something is out there.." He remarks in a harsh whisper but seems to be searching for something, or someone, in the undergrowth.

In any event the Wizard decides its the bai..err...Ranger's job to figure out what's going on so he doesn't violate Tak's non-movement order.


Tak remains where he was when he heard the noise, he carefully draws his bow from his shoulder and readys it in case he should need it, or in case its just food to hunt, that happens too.

Elessa puts a finger to her lips to the Tak and Rogun and she gets her shortsword ready in case she needs to drop it, and she carefully tries to move forward, quietly and sneaking up to this figure, hoping the others will stay back and quiet.

<OOC> Elessa says, "So stealth move closer, that's usually half speed I guess? So a double round of movement."

<OOC> Folkmar says, "Yeah, Seb is moving stealth, too. Where are you trying to move towards, specifically Or, better yet, move your icon where you want to be. xD"

Sebropert continues his way along the western side of the path, slinking along the ground in an effort to stay out of sight. As Elessa slinks her way through the underbrush towards the figure she spotted, there is no apparent reaction. Voices begin to be faintly heard fromt he bushes, now, as some sort of disagreement echoes between two figures in goblin.


Rogun continues to hold his position as others begin to creep forward with care. He is quiet too.

On all fours Sebropert slithers, his way through the underbrush to a set of bushes. Using them as cover along with the rain, his shadowy frame creeps along further as he aims to get behind whatever it may be. Eventually. The arguing gives him excuse to move slightly faster until he stops at the full branches of a tree.

Tak remains with Rogun "You know, sometimes this kind of story turns out to be nothing but a rabbit, but when it isn't, your glad you prepared." He holds his bow at ready, trying to look casual with Rogun, apparently they are bait?

Sebropert pages: Yeah, I don't want them to know I am there. Can't cause fear if they know what is doing it.

Elessa continues to sneak up, cringing as she is sure that she can be spotted and heard by everything in this damn forest. She's not used to moving through this. However, thankfully it seems she's not spotted as she gets up closer. She doesn't draw her sword yet, but tries to make an observation to who this might be, and if they might be a threat to them.

Into the brush Sebropert stalks the squabbling creatures, his eyes catching sight of several hobgoblins about a campsite. He waits to pounce, his tail shifting back and forth in anticipation. Shifting his head up he looks for the mage's thrush to signal the others in some way. He waits for the time being, but he is already taking deep breaths as he prepares to let out a frightening roar.

The hobgoblins continue their yelling whispers, back and forth, and Tak and Rogun can now definitely identify where the two sounds are coming from. Elessa is within all but striking distance of one, as it stands near a tree, and Sebropert is behind the other.

In addition, Sebropert spots a small path, covered with bushes and foliage, heading north off the main road, where a low and all but smokeless camp fire has been set up in a small clearing. A tent is set up as well, and the stench of blood permeates.

<OOC> Sebropert says, "What about the thrush, can Rogun see through that?"

Rogun pages: Is it conceivable that the thrush would recognize allies are staking out the area and thsu return to me?

<OOC> Sebropert says, "Oh, and my general plan is to toss a smokestick in the direction of Hob 1 and roar like the dickens to scare the bejebus out of Hob 2?"

<OOC> Sebropert says, "That space right of Hob1 is a good spot for it. Block the line of sight of Hob1 and captain."

<OOC> Elessa says, "I'd hate to wave them over, for fear the dark hobgoblin is going to spot me, since it's 70 ft away."

<OOC> Rogun poses.

Although their communication is limited by emotional perceptions of one another, Rogun has not known Seprobert's movements as he has appeared and disappeared constantly throughout the journey. The conjurer has kept an eye upon Elessa though and benefits from having known of her presence prior to her stealth such that he still has a line-of-sight upon the woman.

This unease for her safety is communicated to the tiny familiar overhead in the woods. The small bird shakes itself and then looks down at the slinking Sebropert tilting its head and recognizing this creature as an ally and then the source of the Wizard's worry.

Not unaccustomed to conflict the little Thrush takes wings from the tree limbs and flutters down amidst Rogun and Tak eventually landing alight the Wizard's pack. Rogun's gaze immediately goes to Elessa as if his acute knowledge of the bird's behavior granted him some foresight into what was occurring he lifts his walking stick and points towards Elessa and then nudges Tak forward.

He follows.

<OOC> Folkmar says, "Though, they've been whisper/yell arguing, so Hob1 has probably heard it."

Elessa turns back to look back and attempts to encourage the other two forward, hopefully if she starts anything like fighting, or gets involved, they aren't that far away in order to join in and help when it gets down to it after all. She quietly tries to ease her sword out of her sheath, taking several deep, quiet breaths, just waiting for the strike.

The hobgoblins still seem mostly oblivious, though their arguing has stopped. The Lieutenant begins to turn around, intending to return to watching the road, as he's supposed to be.

Elessa gets up, exposing herself to the whole of the hobgoblins and praying to the gods that the others are right behind here. She then slashes at her sword at the particular hobgoblin. However, while she thought she had the hobgoblin for sure, he then suddenly bends down while he was turning around to face her. Her slash completely misses, but thankfully she keeps her footing and not spinning around.

<OOC> Sebropert says, "It is ten foot cube. Treat as Fog spell. Takes a minute to dissipate."

<OOC> Folkmar says, "Don't forget, too. This is 'surprise round'. Hobgobs get no action."

<OOC> Sebropert says, "It is a thrown, so I guess it could scatter."

<OOC> Folkmar says, "Ah okay. Eh, I think scatter is all of 1d6 ft, so it'd still be in that square."

<OOC> Folkmar says, "And since it's a 10' 'cube'"

Sebropert pulls out a smokestick from one of his pouches, his arm cocking back as he prepares to throw it. Letting it go, he aimed for the right and forward from what he can only mark in his own mind as hobgoblin one. Billowing smoke spews forth from the stick as if the underbrush itself breathed life.

As the combatants edge closer, it becomes visible that the Hobgoblins on watch are holding longbows, with arrows knocked but not drawn, expecting to shoot at people on the roads.

<OOC> Rogun says, "I'll move and acid dart."

<OOC> Rogun says, "The Lt."

Rogun remains in cover for a moment watching as Elessa swings and misses. Whatever hesitance he had dissolves a bit when the smoke stick goes scattering through the brush.

Moving from his position he circles a bit wide and closes in but tries to appear less threatening than the woman holding the sword. Reaching outward with his free hand he traces a simple symbol through the air "Dewak." He intones at precisely the right moment.

The symbol flares an oozing green color before darting forward and striking the lieutenant. His skin, in the area struck, begins to bubble and melt with a hissing sound.

<OOC> Sebropert ponders. "Still gunna roar my head off and shake that bush. Combined with the smoke maybe I can scare Hob 2 now that he can't see his buddies."

<OOC> Tak says, "just hve me shoot things, +7 to hit, no damage bonus, gah!"

<OOC> Folkmar says, "+init Tak"

A creature of the wild Sebropert releases his fury at the interlopers in his domain. His massive chest expands and his jaws spread wide as he lets forth a bestial roar. Though concealed within the bushes the sound was fierce, and spittle spat forth and clung to his maw. His claws shook the branches and trees about himself, making sure the hobgoblin knew the wld was coming for it.

<OOC> Elessa says, "I'm going to try and hit this damn lt again for my turn"

<OOC> Folkmar says, "Roll it"

Elessa watches the attack from Rokun and gives him a quick look with a smile as she now takes the opportunity and slashes at the hobgoblin. There is a bit of satisfaction as she feels it hit and cut into the creature, and into a nice decent chunk of him too.

<OOC> Elessa says, "Rogun, damn I misspelled your name, sorry :("

Tak, from his position of hiding, lines up a shot at the Hobgoblin that Elessa and Rogun had been assaulting, but his shot goes just wide.

The same hobgoblin's eyes go wide as Elessa's slash attempts to disembowel him. Blood oozes from a deep gash in its gut. "GRAAAAR!" the creature bellows. It drops its bow, drawing a longsword, and lunging at Elessa in the same motion, slicing a furrow down her upper arm.

Hobgoblin 2, hearing Sebropert's bellow, is startled, his nerves shivering as he believes there to be some manner of wild beast behind him. And.. in a manner of speaking, there is. All the same, he too drops his bow, and swings his sword, though it sails over Sebropert's head as the sith'makar keeps his position near the ground.

Scales and claws tear forth from the brush as Sebropert rises onto his hindlegs, his teeth nashing and claws flying a flurry. With the blood and gore dripping and draining from the hobgoblin, the large Sit'Makar growls and speaks. "Should have ran."

Elessa hisses in pain as the hobgoblin slices into her arm, but she's not going to back down, nope not yet. And that's evident as she slices into the hobgoblin. It's not as good as before, since he's focused on her, but she slashes across, getting a nice gash to his shoulder.

From behind the smoke, hobgoblin 1 senses a fight. He comes around the cloud and raises his bow as he spots Sebropert flaying his ally. Between the cover, and his ally being in the way, the shot sails somewhere into the distance.

Not one to let something flee after it had the gall to face him, Sebropert takes a swipe at the Hobgoblin as he attempts his escape. Massive claws tear through the back of the Hobs neck, tearing the exposed flesh and dropping the creature to the forest floor.

Obviously not scaring his prey before hand had major drawbacks as the sweeping strikes of his claws swipe air and squeal as they scrape across the Hobgoblin's armor. But blood still spilled as Seb's huge jaws clamp down into the Hob's tender flesh.

The last hit across her chest causes Elessa to cry out in pain. Quickly she pulls out one of her potions and drinks it down. Her wounds close up a bit more and she gets a bit of strength. She watches the hobgoblin lieutenant, hoping he doesn't quite come after her though.

Seeing Sebropert occupied with its underling, the Captain moves around behind the tree to flank the ranger. The Sith'Makar senses the movement, and turns his head just in time to avoid a swing, but the other hobgoblin, having been waiting for just this opportunity, lunges with its sword, biting across Sebropert's thigh with the tip of its blade.

Rogun continues his surreptitious movements through the forest. Two fingers move into one of the pouches upon his chest and when they come outward they are slick from a greasy coating within. Moving those fingers he chants softly and then gestures towards the Hobgoblin Captain.

The greasy substance glitters upon his fingers and then trans-locates through an tiny arcane tear in the material plane gaining mass and covering the ground beneath the Captain making footing there quite precarious.

The intervention of the mage may have just saved the Sith'Makar, the hobgoblins finally flanking him. A sword bites his thigh, but as the hob captain falls, Seb is sure to bury tooth and claw deep into the rapscallions hide. "Surrender or this day you die," he growled.

Elessa takes a deep breath as she feels a lot better, and watches her target go down. Taking the opportunity, she takes her sword and slashes down onto the hobgoblin. She gets a good shot on it, along it's own middle, similar to the blow it got her.

This time, the Captain scores a hit, even laying on its back. It snarls viciously around yellow and ugly teeth, flailing it's sword about with surprising skill. "Surrendah? I accept joo surrendah!" it leers as the sword scores a shallow wound across the ranger's shin.

The other hobgoblin has less luck, however, swinging its sword futilely over Sebropert's shoulder.

Tak circles around behind Elessa, still watching the hobgoblin that is trying to fight from the ground. "So, as I was saying, these two fighters had a competition. One of them wielded a longsword and shield, and the other a pair of short swords. I'd estimate they each killed nearly a hundred hobgoblins."

The captain's smart mouth and lucky sword earns him a severe mauling by Sebropert's claws, his swipes digging deep furrows into the Hobgoblin. He lets out a slavering roar as he fights, his movements feral and swift.

Hobgob 1 is, thankfully, made of fail. The Captain is a trooper, though. He rolls over after Sebropert's onslaught, laying on his hands and knees. He begins to rise, sword in hand, but then his feet slip out from under him again. As he goes down, however, he lunges with his sword, sinking it into the sith'makar's guts.

Hobgoblin 1 has, in fact, seen enough, with his Captain getting shredded. He begins making a run for it, off to the north.

Elessa growls at the hobgoblin at her feet and then manages to get at it's throat which makes it flail in death throws. The young woman lets out a sigh, and then glances over to Sebropert. Time to go start helping over there. You paged Sebropert with 'That should speed it up a bit.'

Tak hangs his whip from his belt, then brings his bow up as his right hand draws an arrow from a quiver on his back. He pulls back the arrow, takes aim at the fleeing hobgob and fires true. The arrow strikes the creature, wounding it.

This hobgoblin held luck by the short hairs, and it was draining it for all it was worth. Slipping and sliding and still its blade made to empty Sebropert's stomach on the ground. Despite the pain, the massive Sith'Makar continues to rip chunks from the hobgoblins body. "Surrender!" He howled as he tore yet another bit away with his sharpened maw.

As Sebropert claws and mangles the Hobgoblin, he throws his sword aside, deep furrows of bites and scratches covering his face and arms. It whines piteously, bringing its arms up to cover its head. "Surrender! Surrrrreeeeeendeeer! I geev up!"

Tak lets the last one run away, then takes a moment to sling his bow back over his pack again, and coil up his whip. He walks over to look at the wounded hobgoblin, then crouches down, tilting his head to the side. "I always find it fascinating that one who would not give mercy, asks for it when the situation is turned around. So tell me, have you encountered many others out here? We are looking for some missing people."

<OOC> Folkmar says, "Tak, the other one was bleeding pretty good, and wounded, in a forest. If predators don't get him, bleedout prob will."

Elessa seems to start after the one, and hears Tak talking to one of the others. She lets the others in their party handle things elsewhere as she comes over to Tak and the hobgoblin. Taking a moment to wipe off the blood on a cloth, in a rather showy way, she sheathes her sword as she looks at the creature.

The hobgoblin looks shifty-eyed, left and right. "M.. more people? Hoomans, like you? Ahh, yes... yes! If you let me live, I tell you all! Please, do not kill me!"

Tak nods, as if he accepts it, but instead switches his question. "So, are you alone out here? Do you have a tribe nearby, what brings you to these woods?" Apparently he is just going to keep asking questions and see which answers he likes

Elessa raises an eyebrow at the creature. "Lies aren't going to help you live creature," she just adds, staring at him, her thumb running along the guard to her blade.
