  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Gaerth, Jinks, Lyme, Lysos, Skielstregar, Vaera
  • Place: Forests of Dragonier, Lotch Twinsday's study
  • Time: October 6, 2021
  • Summary: The creature they are fighting has been revealed! A strange mass of black tentacles that are bludgeoning and slicing at all, and many of the tentacles remain hidden while the adventuring party retreats to the doorway. Lysos heads to the back of the group, while granting a boon on Gaerth the paladin as they hold the exit with the others. Those close strike at the tentacles in melee, with some missing due to the difficult to pinpoint tentacles. Vaera ducks behind the door as well, and pulls out her recently repaired thunderbelcher, and with a lucky shot, manages to sever several tentacles in a single blow that leaves a massive whole in the main mass of the creature, slaying it. Though the tentacles unattached are still a threat, which everyone turns to clean up. Lysos burns several of them, and Gaerth, Lyme and Skielstregar all hew through the remainder, while Jinks inspires those present with song, and heals the half-dead sith-makar's wounds. With a final shot from the thunderbelcher, the last tentacle falls still, and the group beats a hasty retreat as the wizard's door mimic shows up. They are sucessful in their quest to find the diviner, and bring them back to the airship with no more trouble.

GAME: Lysos spends ONE use of TOUCH OF DESTINY.

Lysos is getting better at these situations, really, she is. She didn't scream, after all. Not a real scream, anyways. And she's getting better at being unseen... making sure she stays well out of her allies' way as she hurries through the sudden battle field. She heeds Gaerth's call, getting behind him, and as she passes she lays an unseen hand on his shoulder, just a brief touch.. and with that touch is imparted a brief sense of clarity.

GAME: Lyme rolls 1d20+11+2-2: (2)+11+2+-2: 13

Lyme takes a swing, hard and a little panicky. It doesn't go well, and he smacks his own shin with the flat of his blade.

GAME: Jinks rolls 1d20+5+5: (4)+5+5: 14

GAME: Jinks spends FOUR uses of BARDIC PERFORMANCE.
GAME: Jinks casts Cure Light Wounds. Caster Level: 5 DC: 16

Jinks continues to sing and moves towards the door. He tries to find the right notes of the Hymn mid-retreat but a groping, glittering tentacle keeps him from focusing.

The tentacles break free of the writhing mass on the ceiling. One tries to grab at Skiel, wrapping around his neck, while the other simply batters at the hulking Sith's armor unsuccesfully.

Still, he has a tentacle around his neck, and apparently, they can roam free of the mass.

GAME: Skielstregar spends THREE uses of BLOODRAGE.

Skielstregar interposes himself between the others and the creatures as they start to file out, his halberd raised to block anything that dared to try and hit anything behind the raging Forgotten. "Thisss isss one careful!" he growls wetly back at Vaera, mana infused ichor dripping from his maw. Clarity in his eyes despite the ferocity in his actions. The sith twists back, furiously felling the axe end of his pole arm down in a full bodied strike. "Sssa! We leave!"

"And just how is that being careful?" She asks the sith-makar that was nearby while the others were aiming for the door. She ducks out of the way, between those at the door. on the other side, she drops her bow against one of the walls. And from her coat , near the back, she pulls out a rectangular object of wood and metal, flipping a hinge outwards with the movement. A latch pulled to secure them in place, and their is a brief whirring of gears as the barrel extends from the front. The thunderbelcher is shouldered, looking a bit small in their hands, and they aim for the writhing mass of tentacles. And in a moment, she sees several intersecting in their pattern.

With a loud crack, the thunderbelcher fires with an accompanying blue light, piercing through several of the tentacles and directly through the center of the mass, leaving a sizeable hole going most of the way through it.

Seemed her tinkering had paid off.

With the other, less armor-wearing members of the party withdrawing, Gaerth nods in satisfaction. He can concentrate more on the things coming after them. Then, Vaera blasts a hole in the main creature big enough for Gaerth to stick his head through. Another complicatoin potentially solved. But the little monsters are still functioning, and the Dawnblade lashes out with his longsword, delivering a serious cut into on of the glittering creatures. He returns to a ready crouch, preparing for more to try and prevent the party's escape.

With the central mass splattered, the remaining tentacles have broken free. One strikes Gaerth, but the others are unable to bypass Skielstregar's holking presence.

Lotch Twinsday blinks his eyes. "That is quite the strange creatiion. I wonder who made it?" he asks. "I'll have to DIVINE the answer." He blinks at it several times.

"Flambo!" Twin bars of white hot fire lance out as Lysos reveals herself, having kept behind Gaerth... one hand over her eyes, splayed just enough so that one can see through, the other out stretched.. the obvious source of the brief flash of flame.

Lyme swings again, and this time, he hits the tentacle grabbing Skiel's neck with a clean downward cut. It just parts. Edge alignment!

Jinks remains in the second rank, song bolstered by the Hymn. Safe from the press of the monstrous invader he manages to look through the tangle of reality's weave and find a version of the grim sith that isn't wounded. A quick flick of the wrist and, like a card trick, reality alters. It may lack the warmth of a god's touch but bardsong comes judgement-free.

Skielstregar whips his head back to Vaera. "How isss thisss one sssure? Thisss isssn't the time fo- *gak*" The Forgotten is seized by the throat. Lyme aids his release, a snarling sith snapping over to his direction, then to the healing magics of Jinks. "Thanksssss," he hisses out, smiling slightly. Double fangs on display, dripping mana laden ichor onto the floor, eyes glowing crimson. Oh gods that's terrifying. The smile doesn't stay as he is slammed hard. Unphased, and little pissed off, he smashes his weapon hard into the next tentacle with impunity, him backing up some to afford the others to make a break for it. But it seemed as if the tide was slooowly turning in their favor.

Vaera pulls a jagged looking bullet out of a loop on her belt, sliding it into the side of the firearm with magical alacrity. She looks over to catch Skielstregar caught by the tentacle, and before she can do anything it is sliced off by Lyme. She glances at the dripping blood for a split second before her attention turns to an empty spot of the area that did not look quite right. Pulling back a switch on the side, she fires the thunderbelcher with another crack, cutting the tentacle in two.

It's then that the mimic arrives, of course. A moment too late, but it's in the shape of a door that's... got legs sticking out of it, and it's horizontal. Anyway, Eye stalks grow out of the top and look at the lot of you, before Lotch climbs aboard its back.

"...lets get out of here. My sanctuary is spoilt! I am incensed over this." He helps Jinks onto the back of the thing -- small people have to stick together -- and leads you back out the back door.

"I was thinking about who would be able to create someting like that and I've come to a conclusion: I have no earthly clue."

Vaera undoes a latch on the side of the firearm, and there is another whirring of gears as the barrel shrinks back and the stock recedes, before it is folded again and stowed back in her coat.

"Is everyone alright?" She asks after picking up her arrows, and turning to, the door?

Seems they were no longer content to wait for the adventurers to come to them. "Do you need anything from this room before we go?" She asks the wizard. "And Skielstregar, are you going to be alright to move?"

Lysos puts her hand over her mouth and turns away from the carnage. Just in time to see the door charging in at them. She sways dangerously before putting a hand out to a wall to catch herself... which she immediately snatches back, likely fearing more tentacles. "Alright?" She laughs borderline hysterical. "Are we alright? No, I don't think any of this is alright! We almost got tentakilled!"

Lyme gets ready to trot along. "Lysos. You lived. It's alright."

Skielstregar, once the fighting was over, collapses against the wall as he clutches his head. His eyes dull, fangs receed, and he stops leaking mana. "... this... this one is fine... s... sssurprisingly..." he tiredly rumbles. "Good job... everyone..." Slowly, he lumbers towards the group. Timid once more as he follows close to his kin.

Once you're back outside, Lotch looks around for a moment, breathes in.

"Fresh air," he announces! "What were the odds that it would get revealed like that instead of just asssassinating me after you left?!"

A pause. He looks around slowly. Sees Lysos. Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaares at her.

Gaerth takes a brief momnet to clean his sowrd on some spare cloth before returning it to it's sheath. He jogs for a bit to catch up with the others. "Good job, indeed," he says to Skielstrengar with a smile and a nod. As he moves towards the fron, he gives Lysos a smile and a gentle pat on the shoulder. "You did well, also." he gives her a confident nod, resuming a place in the front to be the first to challenge any threat to the group. "Now, shall we return to Alexandria City? I don't think that the captain intens to wait for us forever..."

"You were fine, Lysos, you were barely harmed." Vaera states simply once they were out. "And that creature is gone, with all of us still here. So I would say that is alright. Any with wounds can be tended too back on the airship."

"So, you were not planning on joining us, then?"

Lysos covers her face in her hands, shrugging only slightly at Lyme's reassurances and Gaerth's encouragement.. then dropping them when Vaera's comment reaches her ears. She looks at the red sith'makar... and can't come up with a response. Vaera's not wrong, after all. So she just sighs instead, still a little shakey.. when she finallynotices Lotch staring at her. She stares back, then everts her eyes. Left, right. Then, finally, "What?" she demands. "You don't have to make a big deal about it!"

Lyme waves a hand. "So let's not, and keep doing, right?"
