  • Title: Making a Splash
  • Emitter: Aryia
  • Characters: Aryia, Irshya
  • Place: TarRaCe Bathhouse
  • Time: December 29th, 2021
  • Summary: Aryia seeks out Irshya, the TarRaCe proprietor, to make good on a promise she made some time ago. She finds the pool shark, and shows her tailoring supplies, ready to make whatever Irshya wished. Though, Aryia shows off her new amulet and lets Irshya try it out, the amulet imbuing punches and kicks with bursts of moonlight. She gets to working on a new outfit for Irshya, some choice words getting the mute teary eyed before taking the time to finish it right then and there. Irshya approves, and suggests a special dinner for Aryia and Violet as payment for a future attire. They head off to get some curry.

The TarRaCe Bathhouse, Evening

It's a cold day outside. But that doesn't stop a green jacketed elf from her mission.

The door to the bathhouse is firmly shoved open, torch-bright eyes scanning the pools for a certain someone. A certain... sharky... someone.

The mute is armed. She has... a large basket in hand. She whistles loudly. Three notes. Mid. High. Low.

From the lady's side, a little splash is heard, followed by the sound of wet feet running. From the doorway, Irshya's little face peers, her ears perked up. "You rang?", Irshya intones. She blinks a few times and waves! "Aryia! Irshya is pleased to see you!"

Aryia grins as she sees the pool shark pad towards her. She raises a hand in greeting, and hefts her basket to show it. Bolts of cloth and loose threads hang from it. The mute gestures towards the ladies side once more and starts walking that way.

The Mul is in serious danger of a sopping wet hug, but the sharky-one is beneficent and follows along behind Aryia. "You've brought a basket of cloth for Irshya?", she wonders. "Oh! Irshya asked about clothes before!" This brings a broad grin to her face. "Irshya has coin, even!"

Aryia nods sharply, the grin still on her lips as she drops her things down on a bench. She holds up a finger, doffing her jacket. Pants, shirt, shoes. Down to her chest wrap and swim trunks (she had them on under. She was prepared!) The mute sports three necklaces. A shark tooth, a platinum ring, and a circular silver amulet that sparkles faintly in the ambient light. Pushing the backwards headband back into position on the back of her skull, she shakes her head at the mention of coin.

"Free pass to the baths, that's all I want," she signs with a raised hand. She beckons the shark closer, and opens an arm up for a hug. <Handspeech>

The Shark is sporting a bathing suit this time, one that is closely matched to her skin tone. Aryia gets the sopping wet hug she asks for as Irshya practically throws herself into the Mul'neissa's arms. "You silly, you already have a free pass to the baths. Irshya would be hard pressed to say no."

The Gobbo's grin is marred by a number of missing teeth this time around, with their replacements partway into place. She's distracted then by the sparkly amulet. "This is pretty! What does it do?" Irshya's hands reach up to catch some of the sparkle, being reflected onto her palms.

Aryia was prepared, her stooping down to hug Irshya tightly. She gives the gobbo a rub on the top of the head before letting her go to silently chuckle. "Looks like I've been paid already then," she gestures with a sly grin.

She looks down, and her grin morphs into one of excitement. "Oh! It's really neat. Do you have something around that you don't mind me punching?" she requests, cracking her knuckles. <Handspeech>

The Gobbo cackles, pausing only to revel in the headpat, before giving the Mul'neissa another squeeze.

"Hmm, something to punch... well, how about the water? You can't really hurt it, it can't really hurt you, and the place is designed to be splashed. Safest thing to punch, Irshya thinks!"

Her hands go up again, to touch the tooth and ring. "Irshya has seen this tooth somewhere before.", she says, with a cheeky tone in her voice. "The ring... hmm. A treasure from a loved on? Oho! Violet?"

Aryia blinks, then her face grows crimson, hands quickly allaying, "What? No no no no, i-it's from Seyardu! She has a spell that needs a certain ring on the person!"

Flustered, she heads over to the pool and shakes her frame off to rid the embarrassment. She rubs her hands together, then assumes a stance. The amulet shimmers, and her fists gain a bright, bright hue to them. Silver moonlight, like two mini twin suns in her hand. Without warning, she jabs downwards in a flurry of blinding strikes. The water splashes and sprays upward in a large mist. And each impact makes a flash of bright light appear on every hit.

That would be... very, very disorienting if someone was hit by that.

She turns to Irshya, her now dripping water, and grins. <Handspeech>

Irshya giggles at the sudden blush from Aryia, and she cants her head to one side. "Oho, what sort of spell?"

She moves to stand beside the Mul, eyeing the stance, and then the shimmering amulet. The splashing that hits her goes unnoticed, but the splash that stretches upwards with bright flashes of light has her staring, transfixed.

When Aryia turns to her, she squeals and clings to the Mul. "Again again!"

Aryia shrugs. "Something to help me if things get bad. I didn't ask, I trust her."

The mute grins, her patting the pool shark with a glowing hand. She carefully peels her off so she can do it once more.

More strikes, punches, kicks, elbows against the water. Each one makes a bright flash of silver-hued light, making the sprayed mist sparkle and shimmer like crystals in the air.

It's probably making spots on eyes if one stares too long.

<Handspeech>

"Aww. Irshya is proud that you are wearing her tooth among gifts from other friends." She is rather good at being clingy, but is convinced enough to let go to watch the show.

Irshya revels in the bright flashes and fountains of water. "Irshya shall ask you to come when Irshya is cleaning. This would make it fun!" The Gobbo eyes the amulet, and then Aryia. "Could.. could Irshya try it?"

Aryia gestures, "It is a good gift, and it looks nice," before giving a thumbs up. She'd help clean, it was the least she could do.

The question makes her think about it, then she nods. The mini-moonbright hands return to normal grey as she pulls the amulet off and holds it out to Irshya.

Upon closer inspection, the circular amulet isn't flat. It has tiny pock marks on it, similar to the surface of the moon. "Just start punching stuff and it'll kick on." <Handspeech>

The Gobbo holds the amulet reverently for a moment, squinting at the surface of the object, her fingers feeling out the pockmarks. "Is this the moon?", she wonders, eyeing Aryia for a moment.

The amulet is carefully draped around her neck, and she turns to face the pool. A little foot comes up and smacks the surface of the pool. Irshya's eyes widen as the magic happens, a bright light, and an impressive splash (for a Goblin). Many more kicks follow, ensuring that both are probably dazzled by the time the Goblin's tired herself out.

Aryia gives a light nod. "Yes." Though, despite the imagery, it looks very carefully made to /not/ look like a symbol of Eluna.

Each smack and splash emits a micro-flash of light on the impact. The limb used to hit is wreathed in brilliant moonlight and throws shadows in all sorts of directions in the bathhouse.

The mute watches on, amused. <Handspeech>

Her eyes wide, the Gobbo hops about, then turns, and dives into the pool. Her progress is easily followed, her feet lighting up the depths of the pool nicely. Irshya emerges a short time later, giggling. The wet amulet is handed back over, and awws at her feet returning to their normality.

"That thing is amazing!"

The mute grins, a hand on her hip as the pool shark has some fun with the trinket she got a bit ago. She takes it back, twirls it on a finger, then slips it back on over her head. "It's wonderful. Has a little bit of me in it, since I do all that light stuff."

The mute squints a bit, then bends forward at the waist. "Okay! Fetch us some towels and lets get you measured!" she requests, patting Irshya atop the head and moving to her basket. <Handspeech>

Two towels are quickly fetched, the Gobbo seemingly bursting with energy. She launches a folded up towel at Aryia's behind while she's turned away, and then begins to rigorously dry herself. "Soso Irshya was looking for a nice little skirt and blouse. Something in a green or blue. Maybe different colours so they don't blend in together? Maybe some pockets on the skirt?" The Gobbo chatters away while drying her hair, head buried in the towel.

Aryia is caught off guard at the towel hitting her backside, her making a strange sound that should be similar to 'ack!' but comes out as a 'pbbptpt!'

She turns, picking up her towel and giving a light huff as she dries herself off. She listens quietly, sitting down and pulling out her journal to jot some notes down. Skirt and blouse? Those could be done right here. Not hard at all.

Once the gobbo was dry, she beckons her over with a finger as she pulls out a marked length of twine from the basket.

Irshya steps over and stands at attention, peering at the twine. Her stubby little tail begins to sway back and forth slightly, and she blinks. "Ah, for measuring Irshya?" She lifts her arms up and straight out from her sides. "No tickling."

Aryia snickers and shakes her head. No tickling here, it'd be unprofessional. Setting her journal aside, she wraps it around her fingers and nudges the gobbo into various positions. Arms out, arms down. Legs spread a bit, standing straight. So on and so forth.

The mute is very fast at this. She mentioned she was a seamstress in her past life, and it looks as if a lot of those memories associated with it have come back in full swing, as she scribbling down a list of measurements in her journal.

A spare hand opens up the basket, and she points inside. "Grab whatever colors you want, I should have those you mentioned in there."

There is an array of green and blue bolts of cloth in the basket, as well as some accent colors. She came prepared. <Handspeech>

Irshya goes along fairly amiably, being nudged into different positions without much difficulty, though she insists on seeing what is being recorded. Her eyes widen at the basket of colours, and she begins to dig through them. Each one is compared to her own hue. It might take a while.

"Which ones would you pick?", she wonders along the way.

Aryia shows the list once she was done writing. It's a series of numbers, along with her writing down things like 'shoulder to wrist: 11. Hips to bust: 8. Etc, etc'. It's orgniazed neatly, where one could rattle off the numbers from top to bottom and have all the measurements needed to make clothes. Though, there are some additions at the bottom where it details numerically where the base of her fins and tails were.

She points to two bolts of fabric: a seafoam green, and an azure. Both were pastels, and easy on the eyes.

She reaches in and grabs a few more tools: thread, needle, scissors, some paper.

The Gobbo is very attentive at this point, eyeing the details and numbers at length. She giggles suddenly, and grins at Aryia. "So somewhere in your life, a decision was made, and you punch things for a living instead of making nice clothing. Life is strange, isn't it?"

The observation makes Aryia's light smile in her work waver slightly. "... wasn't my decision, but I'm glad I'm not making clothes where I once was," she answers, the smile resuming to its previous strength.

The mute sticks a foot out and drags another bench over with it. She sets her things on it, and pulls out a bolt of cloth. A pen scratches against a piece of paper, the seamstress starting to sketch out a blouse. <Handspeech>

Irshya pats at Aryia's arm lightly. "Irshya did not mean to pick at a wound.", she says softly. "Apologies." She goes silent as the blouse begins to take shape. Part way through the design process, she grins again. "And you can draw so neatly." The Gobbo eventually settles down next to the Mul'neissa. "Irshya would pay money to watch you do this for other people."

Aryia shakes her head. "You're fine. The decision was shit to go through, but I'm better off here than making clothes for nobles."

The seamstress grows a little bashful, her scratching her cheek with the side of her pen. Her spare hand gestures, "Really? I've just done it for a while is all. And you're small, so it's a little faster to do."

The blouse is sketched out. It looks loose fitting, with two little ribbons of fabric near the neck that keep it open for gills. The back has a curve at the lower hem, keeping the tail in mind so it won't chafe. And a slot for the fins to slip through with ease.

She gets started on the skirt. Easy to do, though the back side of it takes a little bit more, the mute working on tackling the tail problem. <Handspeech>

"Yes, Irshya is enjoying this. Seeing it as a thought become drawing, and then drawing become thing." She grins. "Makes Irshya want to try it herself. It feels very much like cooking, you know? The magic of knowing that you can turn a bunch of ingredients into something tasty is powerful magic indeed. And this..." The Gobbo gestures at the fabrics and notebook. "Gives me the same feeling."

"Irshya feels like she has a big sister now."

Aryia bobs her head in agreement. "Sort of like that, yes," she motions slowly. <Handspeech>

The pen starts to put some finishing touches on the skirt, but slows to a stop as it's at some buttons.

The mute's glowing gaze starts to warble some from a film covering it. She sniffles some, and wipes at her eyes. "Y-... y- d-n't m-n th-t..." she hisses out faintly.

The Gobbo watches the sketch not progress for a few more moments, and then looks to Aryia. Irshya's ears perk up and she leans in to hug at the Mul. "Irshya does mean that." She also sniffles, squeezing gently. "Irshya is alone in the world... well, that is to say, she has no family by blood. Only family by choice. And Irshya is lucky to have Aryia in her life."

Aryia takes a moment to center herself, breathing evenly before finishing one last wipe at her eyes. Her hand gestures slowly, letting herself be hugged for the moment. "I have some family by blood. My parents. But no siblings. My sister is a choice, but she's been gone for months..." Her visage softens to a sad frown.

In. Out. She returns the hug briefly. "You're not alone. I'm your friend. I... I don't think I can call us sisters. I'm sorry. That's sort of... a very... it's like... you know... when.. it's..."

She fumbles for words.

"... I hurt too much right now, and I want my sister back before I consider expanding my family. But I will gladly be your friend." <Handspeech>

Little hands caress at Aryia's cheeks. "Irshya understands. Irshya seems to be good at pulling open wounds, new and old." She straightens. "Irshya will make up for it with something comforting and delicious for dinner, yes? And Irshya is happy to be called friend."

Aryia shakes her head in the hands. "No, you're fine. I am a walking casket of scars. It's impossible not to. But I won't say no to food," she gestures lightly with a weak smile. She pats Irshya's head and pulls back, her fixing the ivory band on the back of her head with a little push.

She scribbles down a few more lines, looks it over, and nods to herself. The mute picks up her scissors, and gets to cutting fabric... <Handspeech>

GAME: Aryia rolls craft/tailoring+2: (7)+12+2: 21

"Hmm, but you are... what is a good word. You are getting better, yes? Moving forward?" The Gobbo stands on the bench, and leans in to peer at the ivory band. "Your headband is on backwards?" Irshya lightly touches at it, adjusting it slightly on the Mul'neissa's head. "There! Perfectly centered."

The ivory band is very, very ornate upon closer inspection. One end has onyx, and the other is a quartz. Both put pressure on the sides of her skull to stay in place, but her hair likes to move it out of the way. It looks like it is supposed to be worn like this.

Aryia nods. "Yes, better. And moving forward." The fidgeting with the ivory band makes the mute grin slyly. "... oh that...? That... I'll show you later." <Handspeech>

About an hour passes.

The sounds of snipping scissors, cloth running across itself, and poked 'ows' on fingers come from the elf. Slow is smooth. And smooth is fast. The attire being so small helped with making it quickly, but the additions slowed down the work. And eventually...

Aryia puts her tools away, and picks up both pieces of clothing.

The first is a blouse in that seafoam green. It has a wide collar to give Irshya's gills room to breathe, as well as little strands of ribbon-like fabric to pull it closed if she wants. The shirt hangs loosely, though doesn't have much dangling from sleeves or the hem to get caught on anything. There are also slits that are reinforce as a hem for the fins.

The other is a azure skirt. It's simple with a little frill on the bottom hem and some extra stitches to make it look wavy. There's also a slit on the back for a tail, as well as a fastener to go over the tail and button it closed to accommodate for it.

She holds up a finger, gets a rag, and pops some alchemical solution from a bottle and soaks the rag in it. Wiping it over the clothes, it gets a faint sheen before its soaked into the threads. "There. Now its waterproof. Have at it." She grins <Handspeech>

The Goblin gets quieter as the garments begin to take shape. She also becomes a bit intrusive, watching how all the little details are created. Aryia probably nearly pokes Irshya in the nose several times. She cants her head in different directions to see things from different angles.

"Waterproof? How.. how do you do that?", the Gobbo wonders. She grins, and strips out of her bathing suit, and begins fussing with the blouse and skirt. Eventually, she gets them situated, the hardest part is getting the fin into the right place. Seems as though it is firm, but flexible, and so bends when it gets caught in things.

"So... how does it look?" The Gobbo does a little pirouette.

The snooping snoot is poked away several times so Aryia could see. Though, she labors through it with a focus and muscle memory that had been built up for years.

"Alchemy thing, a friend uses some to keep their clothes dry when it rains. Shouldn't affect how it feels on you." She watches Irshya put the clothes on, her squinting as she sees how the fabric lays upon the gobbo's frame. She makes a few quick adjustments, makes it sit more even before taking a step back. She smiles lightly at the spin. "It looks cute. Here."

She fishes into the basket, pulls out a hand mirror, and turns it around to reflect the pool shark back at herself. <Handspeech>

"Oh, you have a mirror!" The Gobbo bounds over to peer at her reflection. First, she gets up close to peer at her face and hair. Fusses with the hair a little.

Then she takes a few steps back, and squints, moving around to get different parts of the clothes into view.

"Irshya really likes them! My tail fits nicely, and my fin doesn't feel squished any more. Irshya knows that you said Irshya didn't have to pay. But. Could Irshya commission you to make her a new set of robes? Nothing fancy, but, with good adjustments for her fin and tail? Irshya would pay for the fabric and anything else you need."

She does several turns on her heel, apparently pleased by the frill at the hem and how it moves about. "When Irshya went to get measured for her suit, she felt uncomfortable. But you make it easier. Irshya is comfortable here."

Aryia warmly smiles as the gobbo inspects herself, enjoying the fact that her friend likes it so much. It felt nice. "Consider it a gift for Yule, then," she motions slowly, her giving a closed-eye smile.

She nods once more, putting the mirror away and putting her tools up. "I sure can do that. Covering the cost of materials and... let's say... a couple free meals is enough compensation for me," she signs with her free hand. "I'm glad I can make it comfortable for you. I won't have to measure you again, I've got it right here," she taps her journal. <Handspeech>

"A gift? But Irshya doesn't have one in return. Irshya will feed you instead, yes? For uhm. A year. Does that sound good?" Her cheeks flush a light lavender in colour. "And you can stay here whenever you like. In one of the little back rooms."

The Gobbo continues to preen in front of the mirror, her expression one of joy and humour. "Irshya enjoyed the measuring, though. And what if Irshya loses or gains weight? It could change her measurements. Maybe her uh..." She gestures at her chest. "Will change."

Aryia tuts, grins, and shakes her head. "I'm sure you can think of something else aside from free food for so long. I like new things, so maybe you can make a fun dish instead?" she suggests, hoping to take some of the pressure off the gobbo.

The mute laughs, a breathy sound. "I can change the numbers or remeasure you, it's not a big deal." <Handspeech>

"A fun dish? Like what?" She taps her chin a moment. "Oooh, I see. What sorts of food do you like, then?" The Gobbo grins and nods. "I uhm... I also enjoyed my time with you." Irshya blinks. "Maybe we could do this every so often? We do some clothing design, and I make us a fun lunch or dinner? You could bring your girlfriend, too, if she was interested."

Aryia shrugs, grinning as she signs, "I will. Eat. Anything. You know those food vendors that go around? There's some gobbos that sell fried rat on a stick. Ugh, delicious."

The mute had no bars on food.

"Something new, an experimental dish," she finally answers.

Though, the proposition gives her pause, and a warm smile blooms on her features. She reaches out, and hugs the little pool shark. She nods into the hug readily. The idea was a great one, and she agrees. <Handspeech>

"Fried rat on a stick?" The Gobbo makes a sour face. "I must feed you food so delicious that you forget rat on a stick exists." She giggles and snorts. "You mean experimental like... like something Irshya has not made before?"

Irshya squeaks as she's hugged, hugging back firmly. "Irshya did something right at last."

Aryia gives the hug a squeeze. And there's a faint, faint voice. A whisper- no, a sub whisper, just barely there on the wind. No timbre, just hisses.

"You never did any wrong in the first place, Irshya."

She rubs the gobbo's head, then pulls away, the mute beaming. "Something you want to make, but have yet to make it, yes." <Handspeech>

Giggling, she tickles at the Mul'neissa's side.

"Irshya wants to try a few things, yes. But it might be a bit much for a dinner. There's... quite a bit."

She pauses a moment, and suddenly turns and dives into the pool. The colours sink to the bottom of the pool, and then begin to circle it, before she resurfaces. Her exit is a bit awkward, but soon she stands before Aryia once more, water streaming from her new clothes.

"Irshya will think of a dinner and dessert for you and your lover. Irshya will make it a nice evening. How is that for payment?"

Aryia stiffens a bit at the tickling, her cheeks puffing out to stem a sputter of a snicker, but then the pool shark makes a splash.

She rubs her neck, a bit confused by the sudden splash, but she shakes her head and puts the rest of her things away.

As the seamstress said, the clothes were perfectly fine, the water drips away off of them, and comes out dry just a few moments later.

The pugilist was pulling on her pants as Irshya comes back out, the mute smiling and nodding. She holds out a hand, "Deal." <Handspeech>

Irshya sticks a wet hand into Aryia's, and shakes it a few times before letting go. "Excellent! So uhm, today, Irshya has made something called curry. It's chicken in a spice sauce, on rice. It's a uhm... spicy. Not eye-wateringly so, but enough that you know you've bitten something.."

Aryia gives the little wet hand a firm shake and pulls the rest of her attire on. She blinks, then grins. "Oh, I /love/ spicy food," she gestures before picking up her basket. "Let's try it."

She starts to walk towards the exit, a hand on the gobbo's shoulder as she goes.<Handspeech>

-End Scene-
