A village not too far from Alexandria has run into trouble. One of the grandchildren of the village elder has gone missing. Like other villages in the area it has been plagued recently by strange occurances. The child in question is one of the good ones and had been in the forest looking for mushrooms. He has been missing for over a day. The villages have requested aid and it fell to those of you who answered the call. Directions were given to the boy's usual gathering grounds along with begging to please find him. You stand at the edges of the forest.

Rakim has changed into his adventuring clothes, those being very slightly more practical and with a little bit less lace. Also he is sans perfume and makeup, but has the addition of his rather pretty and fancy repeating crossbow. He holds the latter in one hand as he squats down, eyes glancing around for any tracks or other things of note.

Kalkorth hmms as he is look around the area with mushrooms in it. He is eager to get to finding this child as who know what could happen. He kneels down to look over the part that leads deeper into the forest.

Fayde is sporting a simple robe nowadays, representative of his small order. He bears his usual dagger and sling in the belt alongside his component pouch, but little else. His gaze is keen as he keeps a sharp eye out for what the child was hunting in this neck of the woods.

Aevarr is always in adventuring clothes. It would be a terrible gaffe to be caught ill-dressed. "So, this is one of the good children, eh? In that case, I daresay we're chasing a figment, a shade, or some other imaginary thing..." A chuckle follows, though he does look over the foliage for any obvious signs of travel.

Rakim shifts along in his squatting position, following the tracks. A faint frown hardens his delicate face as he measures things out with his gloved fingers "Like wolves but...not" he mutters mostly to himself as he looks for human tracks.

Fayde raises his hand at the tracks being pointed out,"Watch for hellhounds, those are no wolves. Notice the darkening in the indentations." He nods with certainty at that.

Taidan had been silent during the entire expedition. On finding the tracks, his hands begin to shake uncontrollably. He had to use his other hand to grip it and steady it. His face has turned pale, and cold sweat trickle down his forehead.

Kalkorth looks over the tracks and he hmms a little bit, "Hell hounds huh that's not good, we better get going before those hellhounds eat the poor lad."

Rakim nods very briefly at Fayde as his sharp and faintly chill dark eyes follow the tracks on further. He hmms softly as he duck walks over "Human, child. From the spacing he was running" he annouces then with a nod to Kalkorth starts off following the tracks.

Fayde glances to the others as he inquires,"Anyone got Protection from Evil or Chaos spells handy? Scrolls or Potions perhaps?" His gaze flickers between the others.

Taidan shakes his head in answer, nervously eyeing his surrounding.

Kalkorth shakes his head, "Sorry just my greataxe." He says as he goes to follow after Rakim and he takes out his greataxe.

Aevarr arches a brow and looks over after discovering an utterly track-free area. "Well, well. I suppose that mundane hounds would be far too ...mundane. Any sign of a houndmaster?" He begins to follow the others, minding the steps ahead in attempt to better place his feet more quietly.

THere are more tracks, signs of a chase, now and again there are signs of burned foliage.

"No, also rather too early for such" Rakim calls back softly. He makes some effort at stealth but speed seems to be his priority as his lean and elegant form slips through the semi-wilderness with more skill than many may assume the foppish and rather urbane Tsurani would have.

Fayde follows closely behind,trying to stay roughly in the middle of the group. The young lad squints his big eyes a little as he casts a magic detection cantrip to aid at this point.

Kalkorth goes to break out into a run as he hears the canine sounds. He lets out a warcry, "Come and face me you vicious hellhounds!"

Kalkorth looks back and grins, "You are wrong this is when the fun begins."

"Silver lady, grant unto us your blessing" Rakim intones, his usual sardonic drawl replaced by a genuine piety. Of course he is levering down a bold and moving forward as he prays. Once the prayer is done he moves as fast as he may, eyes scanning ahread for a target.

Aevarr is perfectly content to let others charge ahead. Who is he to steal another valiant hero's glory? There is no shame in arriving after the foes are vanquished when rewards are not stipulateed per head.

As you run, you come into a clearing. In the center is a massive tree, probably one of the first and oldest trees in this forest. There is a boy near the top of the tree crying out. Circling the base are four hellhounds as they go around, the folliage and base of the tree are burnt.

Taidan falters in moving forward and nearly comes to a complete halt, fear evident in his face. He grits his teeth hard, willing himself to come on moving. His buckler and scimitar are drawn but are far from ready...

Rakim moves foward with a surety and swiftness that puts lie to his usual langour. His eyes focus a moment as he murmers another prayer "Eluna strengthen my bolts with your light" he says then slowly squeezes the trigger, the bolt flying out to sink into the hellhound who lets out a loud yelp.

The hellhound shot by Rakim turns and heads towards where the shot came from though it doesn't cross the whole distance. One of the others turns and follows with it.

THe other two hellhounds still try to keep the kid up the tree. One of them has smoke coming from its nostrils.

Aevarr, humble and modest as ever, allows others their glory. Whilst scars do make for engaging hooks for conversation with the maidens, he feels he can do just as well unmarred. A quick utterance and he vanished from sight before moving towards the Great Tree of Child Protection.

Taidan casts a spell that causes three more Taidans to appear.

Fayde raises his left hand, arching his fingers in an arcane manner towards the hound that was shot moments earlier. The air shimmers silvery around them and a lance of light dances forth.

Kalkorth lets his rage off the leash and he roars as he charges at the uninjured Hellhound. He slams his axe into it and almost lifts it off the ground. His muscles bulge as his skin is flushed. "Come and fight me you miserable dogs."

Rakim tips the brim of his hat in a polite gesture to Fayde as his fellow Elunite zaps one of the hellhounds bearing down upon him "My obliged...and there goes Kalkorth" he says as the towering man tears into the other one "Always handy at parties." The smartarse portion of his round done he murmers another prayer to his goddess at the bolt glows bright. He inhales, holds his breath and squeezes the tigger. The bolt flies out in a blur of silver and with a nasty crunch sinks into the demonic beasts skull and sends it down to the ground. Calmly the nonquisitor levers down another bolt and scans the clearing.

The one that Kalroth hit turns around and attacks Kalkorth with flames in its mouth and takes a bite, burning at the same time as well.

Taidan seems to be holding his breath as he waits for one of the monsters to attack.

The other two are still after the boy. One sets the base of the tree on first with a fiery explosion of flame.

Hell hounds. Fire. Who might have surmised the two were related? The burning tree certainly serves as a strong implication. Stepping around the not-so good little pups, he calls upon a touch of resilience from on high before briskly moving through the embers to ascent the tree.

Fayde gestures in the sign of the Initiate towards Rakim in reply, a two fingered wave as he replies,"Any time, friend." He then makes an arcane gesture with that same hand to send another lance of light to the next nearest hound with unerring accuracy. Noticing the tree about the same time as he attacks,"They're burning it down, we should advance so I can frost ray it!"

Kalkorth slams his greataxe through the middle of the hellhound and he kicks it aside. He looks around to find the other ones and he sees that they are near the tree that's on fire. He will go to move closer towards the hellhounds.

Rakim's sharp eyes scan the battlefield, consiodering everything quickly. As Kalkorth takes down the other Hellhound he looks at the tree on fire and the hellhound trying to leap up it. He shifts foward further into the clearing, and away from cover and aims down the intricate sights of his fancy bow. Another breath and squeeze and a silvery bolt arcs out to sink deeply into it "Pick on someone your own size" he calls out mockingly.

The one that was just shot by Rakim whirls and charges at him, biting and missing. The other is trying to jump up the tree now.

Taidan does not move from his spot, the mere image of the he'll hounds rooting him in place. He is breathing deeply, his eyes wide with fear bordering on panic.

If Aevarr falls in the forest, and no one can see him... does he make a sound? He hopes not to find out today as he struggles some with scrambling up the trunk to the more stout branches.

Fayde is on the ball today with the blasting. No sooner than the hellhound turns to snap at Rakim, than he aims his hand at the beast to send a bolt of light at its face."Down! Down, you!"

Kalkorth lets out another roar of rage and he charges at it. He slams his greataxe down across it's back and he severs it in to. He kicks it away and he looks around for the last one.

"He does rather make a mess" Rakim drawls as he watches Kal messily dispatch another. Despite his superflous witticism his eyes remain on the opponents and the last one up. A faint smile holds scant humor as he squeezes the trigger again and a silver bolt streaks out to sink in deep.

The remaining hellhound turns and charges, though Kal is there so it tries to take a bite out of the barbarian and doesn't.

Fayde moves up while the remaining hound is preoccupied. He moves at a reasonable clip for a lad in robes to within reasonable distance of the burning tree, then rubs his hands together once and makes a minor gesture, the familiar silvery shine coming over his casting hand before a thin strand of cold dances forth to smother the flames with arcane chill.

The limbs make the tree now much more a ladder, and Aevarr has experience with those. Fair ladies, tall towers, yonder windows, and so forth. Once he nears the boy, he whisper to him. "Psst. Good child. Come here and we shall return you to your good family, eh?" A hand is placed on the child, so the boy will have an idea where to go.

Rakim nods his approval to Fayde, Kalkorth and Aevarr as he carefully reloads his crossbow and scans around just in case "Well done all" he drawls, sardonic tone back. Dealing with children not being his forte he turns his faintly chill eyes too Taidan and arches an eyebrow at the three trembling images.

Kalkorth charges after the last hell hound, "Feel the wrath of the cold north." His greataxe is covered in ice as he slams it into the hellhound. He crushes to the ground, "Die you foul beasts." He looks around for any more and he growls a bit before he manages to get his rage back on the leash. The ice on the axe starts to melt and he takes a deep breath, "Is the boy hurt?" He asks as he visibly sags, "I need a drink."

There doesn't seem to be anything else moving and the remains of the hellhounds catch on fire and then become a pile of ash.

Taidan collapses on the ground, the strain of holding his ground finally overcoming his endurance. He breathes raggedly, his body covered in cold sweat. Early attempts to stand up results in failure, his legs not cooperating with him. Eventually, after mustering enough will power, he is able to sit up, supporting himself on his scimitar.

Fayde nods curtly to Rakim before tending to the spontaneously combusting hellhounds. He moves from burning corpse to burning corpse, chilling the remains of each in similar manner to the tree.

Aevarr now chooses to become visible as he aids the boy in decending. Truth be told, the youth may be more familiar with this particular tree. "It seems not, and I agree, respectively," he answers Kalkorth.

Rakim wordlessly offers Kalkorth a silver engraved flask from one of his rather large pockets then turns to look at Taidan curiously "I don't recall anything getting anywhere near him?" he questions the group curiously.

The boy doesn't make any sense, just stutters and cries a lot. He follows after them though.

<OOC> Rakim will scan around for any other tracks etc <OOC> Tiasa says, "doesn't seem to be any other tracks" <OOC> Taidan says, "So who summoned the hunt on the boy?" <OOC> Tiasa says, "going to just be the one encounter. is fighting tooth pain but wanted to at least do something so we will be wrapping up shortly." <OOC> Taidan nods. <OOC> Rakim says, "Fair enough :)"

Fayde will take his time making sure that all the fires are out. He goes meticulous around spreading cold over things which will take a few minutes.

<OOC> Fayde says, "Meticulously*"

The boy finally calms down enough to thank you all and ask for help getting back to the village as he is scarred.

Kalkorth Takes the flash and he takes a long drink of it before he hands it back, "Good stuff." He says and after a couple minutes of rest he looks better and he stretches out, "Let's get this boy back to his parents, maybe we'll be time in hope for supper."

GAME: Kalkorth ends his rage. GAME: Tiasa removes the timestop. Timestop by Tiasa has left. GAME: You remove the timestop.

Taidan opens his water canteen and drinks thirstily, choking at some point during the drink. With a shakey hand, he seals the cap back into place before placing it in his side pocket. Unsteadily, he makes it back to his feet, although he looks quite exhausted.

Aevarr is delighted that the boy calms and becomes coherent enough to offer gratitude... and not require him to be carried. He offers a deep not and wide grin to Kalkorth. "Indeed! Few things are better than a job well done, a fine meal and a strong drink."

"Well you did you usual good service sir, least I could do is offer you a drink" Rakim drawls to Kalkorth with a warmer smile than his usual sardonic expression. He scans the clearing carefully, and noticing nothing else "It does seem a little random however. To the best of my knowledge Hellhounds do not just spontanously appear. Still let us get the boy home and safe" he adds then glances to Taidan "Sir if you will make it a habit to collapse at the face of danger kindly do it where you can at least serve as bait or at least a distraction" he says with a dry twist to his lips.

<OOC> Tiasa says, "anything else or ready for wrap up?" <OOC> Fayde is good for wrap up. <OOC> Rakim says, "Nothing much to add here :)" <OOC> Aevarr is good.

Taidan looks at Rakim and can only lower his head in shame. "Sorry." He says tersely, as if it is an acceptable explanation for what happened to him earlier. He sheathes his scimitar and moves off, albeit staggeredly, back to the village.

YOu all get the boy back to the village and are rewarded as well as offered a good meal before you depart.
