  • Title: Funeral for a Nar-sektoth
  • Emitter: Cryosanthia
  • Characters: Cryosanthia, Aryia, Seyardu, Sjach
  • Place: The Inmost Sea
  • Time: Wednesday, June 23, 2021, 2:16 PM
  • Summary: The Vardamans are sending their funeral boat out to perform a burial at sea ritual for the Nar'Sektoth that was killed earlier. Several who were involved, either in the killing or the researching of funeral rites, appear. Sjach also, for personal reasons and a deep distrust of the Sahuagain. Even dead, he's concerned and objects to what is a King's Funeral for... what might be an exiled raider. The Vardamites demur that ceremonies are for the living, and Seyardu was interested in paying respects to one of the Children of the Flame. Cryosanthia appears to say she's got other priorities and wishes them well, then leaves quickly. The grey ship sails out, an hour from Alexandria and starts the funeral. They are interrupted by several Sahuagin and a Sea Elf leaping aboard. The Sea Elf, actually a Malenti mutated Sahuagin herself, says they will be his honour guard in death. Battle ensues, with close quarters fighting around a funeral pyre. Seyardu implores everyone to be merciful, but it lands on largely deaf ears. The Sea Elf and the old oruch priest engage each other, while Aryia, Seyardu, Sjach and the Lancers fight the rest. They are trading blows until the Sea Elf downs the Oruch priest and the party, spurred, takes down the rest. The Sea Elf is brought round and is angrily uncooperative until Sjach threatens her, at which point she explains that a proper Sahuagin funeral involves stone fish, removing their teeth, and sending them down with an 'honour guard' of kills to the depths where the Grey Leviathan will eat them. If they were worth eating. Frustrated, all the Sahuagin are told to avoid fishing boats and thrown overboard and the Grey ship turns back. The only one that seems happy with things was the oruch, who died.

It's a great day for funeral.

It's overcast, grey skies as far as the eye can see. A light drizzle that starts and stops. There are few shadows, and the water has a way of blending with the sky. The horizon has vanished, there are only a few small whitecaps curling in the distance to hint at the water. When it is raining, the water is quelled and covered by ripples everywhere. If it was spring or fall, it would be perfect. The humid air and heat detracts from the overall ambience. Death is seldom warm.

The Temple of Vardama has a boat. A large, ocean-going barge. It doesn't get out much. It usually has no place to go, much like the Mourners of the Temple. It's last use was to transport plague victims around Alexandria so they could be brought in directly to the temple. It's been cleaned since, several times. It is dark grey, painted with eyes and wings, as well as the scales of Vardama. It has oars and a single sail. More often than not, magic is used to help move it about. Because of this, and the association with the Grey Lady, other ships stay away.

It's been loaded up with the remains of the Ner-Sektoth. Incense fires have been lit fore and aft, and the boat pulls away from the dock. A Mourner is present with the body, and has two Lancers as an honour guard.

Overcast. Grey skies. A perfect day for boat work. It didn't matter what the occasion was, she was working. And when she heard about the funeral taking place, she might as well lend a hand with that.

So Aryia is there, loading the boat, crossing the gangplank with a box hefted over one shoulder. She had no particular attachment to the funeral rites, but this was an overcomplicated solution to her original idea. Oh well. Not her worry.

Cryosanthia has appeared, in clothing that suggests she's attending. She has robes that are suitable for a Sith'Makar frame, something between a wizard's and clerical vestments. Atypically, they are a light grey instead of the usual gleaming white. Her scales also appear duller, they're still white but without any lustre. While not exactly a disguise, her mask was put to good use to create the effect.

She's waiting at the dock, watching the preparations. Lily is not with her. She nods to Aryia when she spots her, and otherwise stands around with a mournful attitude.

Sjach has no love for his Aquatic cousins, as he will have made clear- or at least, as clear as he makes anything, given he is not prone to an excess of verbosity. But, still, he is here. A curiosity in itself, but having heard Seyardu planned to attend, the greenscale would have tersely insisted that he would as well. He has kept his reasons to himself, but given he has come wearing his usual breastplate, glaive slung over his back and bow strung, it seems he expects trouble in one form or another.

He has yet to board the boat, staying clear of the profusion of people that surround it during the loading and boarding, though he regards it dispassionately from the dock.

It had been a bit of a time coming. Thankfully, the temple of Vardama had numerous ways of preserving a body while they worked out what to do with it. The Ner-Sektoth were fairly secretive, or at least, not in contact to share more about their culture. But it was a safe bet that something more involving the sea was a good place to start, and at the very least, they could try to do something respectful. Seyardu had taken a set of Althean cleric robes for the journey, and she was speaking with the mourner as the others join. The silverscale turned, and waved to those who came on.

"Peace on your nests! Thank you for joining us on this voyage, I appreciate it greatly." She called out to the group.

Aryia just nods at people that she recognizes, the somber mood not reaching her. It looked as if she didn't really care, or fully grasp the importance of such an event. She finishes with the last bit of loading, waffling about aimlessly as per usual when she didn't know what to do with herself.

The Mourners have their ways. The Ner'Sektoth has been cleaned up, restored and looks unsettlingly alive. The evidence of his injuries, crushing impacts, have been minimized. Good makeup, some reconstructive wire, glue, spells that restore. Best not to ask the Mourners about their methods.

The body is on a pyre, which is over a casket that's inside a rough stone sarcophagus. One of the Temple workers is checking the mechanism that will close the lid and move it all over the side. The Mourners have made something up, that much is clear to the Silverscale in her discussions with them. They're open to suggestions, alterations to the ceremony.

Cryosanthia nods slowly, working her lips and squeezing them together. "Peace on your Nest, Seyardu. Sjach. This one came to attend the launch, but can not accompany you out to sea." Her tail is hanging still and low, her hands are clasped in front, also low. She's acting very formal. "Cesran has asked this one to assist him, there is an issue we must look into. This one is tasked with gathering the others. It's an outstanding one this one has waited on for a while."

"So I came to give my regrets, I can't attend." She looks over at Sjach, "This one is glad you're here."

Sjach finally begins making his way towards the boat. He briefly signs a greeting to Aryia as he passes her on his way up the gangplank and onto the boat. "Peace on your nesst." he offers Seyardu, in return for her own greeting. Like Aryia, he doesn't seem to be in a particularly mourning mood, but he's here, at least. Once up the gangplank, he moves aside so that he doesn't block it.

He offers a dip of his head to Cryosanthia, "Thiss one does not understand. Thiss is a king's ceremony." he says absently, gesturing to the large boat they are on. Maybe he thinks they are going to burn the whole thing. "Thiss one feelss... it iss better to give the body back to the wild." he says frankly.

"It does look like much. But it is better to be safe than sorry." Seyardu replies to Sjach, with a glance back to the whole thing. "I understand Cryosanthia, though I appreciate that you have come out to see it off, at the very least."

Back to Sjach. "Of note, the ner-sektoth had an additional pair of arms. While I do not care myself for one being treated differently due to birth, if there is a chance that they are of some form of nobility, then their customs should be reflected in some way for that. Hence the extra things. And it is felt important it reaches the bottom of the sea."

See, Sjach agrees with her! And she didn't even mention it to them yet! Aryia signs a greeting back as well before her hands find themselves on her hips. The pair of cestus tied off to her hip on a string clack with the small movements of the boat, straw hat flittering on the wind.

"It's fine," she signs to Cryo. "Can't be everywhere." <Handspeech>

"The Vardama Temple only has one boat." Cryosanthia says, "I don't think they use it much. They're going to row out, perform the ceremony, then row back."

"Yes." The Mourner says, appearing near the group. He's an oruch, at the end of his string of life. While still muscular, he seems deflated, hunched. He uses an axe as a walking stick, his grey fingers curled around the head. He seems content to let the lizards talk amongst themselves.

"Well, ah, Peace on... Peace to you." The whitescale turns a little, adjusting so the oruch is part of the conversation. The one she knows well insisted she modify her greeting for him, a change she uses with the old priest. She turns back to Sjach, "As Seyardu says, more ceremony than less. I guess."

She makes a small bow to all, including a wave to Aryia, and excuses herself, "This one must go. The other needs are urgent and this one would not linger and say mistaken things in haste. I'm sorry." With that said she quickly turns on her tail and retreats, holding back a prayer to her goddess. Asking for drama at a funeral can never be a good thing.

"You ready?" The Oruch Mourner asks, as if saving words will let him endure longer.

Sjach emits a rattling noise which seems to originate in his throat, somewhere between a hiss and a growl. And certainly not possible to replicate with most humanoid vocal chords. "The ner-sektoth would not afford uss the ssame courtessy." he grumbles gruffly, but keeps his counsel on any further thoughts on the matter, simply turning to regard the Oruch with unblinking vertically slitted eyes as he speaks. He offers a terse nod of his head at the question, and moves to lean against the railing of the boat, tail pressed against the ground to steady him as it moves away from its berth.

"Yes, I am ready, mourner." The silverscale replies to the Oruch, with a nod. "It is not about what they would do, but us doing what is right for us. It is not their fault what happened regardless, at least not completely. And as a follower of the celestial mother, it feels like a failure on my own part. Something to make right as best as I am able. If needed, I can assist with rowing the boat until we get out far enough."

Aryia gives a parting wave to Cryosanthia as she heads on out before turning to the Mourner and giving a thumbs up. She adopts a similar stance to Sjach: leaning against the railing, one foot crossed over the other, hat tilted down as she waits. Or until she was needed to do something.

The elf wasn't sure what Seyardu was on about, they tried to kill fishermen. So it seemed justified with nothing to fret about. Aryia supposes this is the different between here and Charn.

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Seyardu, Sjach, if you're helping row, a strength check if you don't have the prof"

"Ok." The oruch grunts, giving a wave.

The morring lines are thrown off, the bow pushed out. The two Lancers, acting as altar girls, dump incense in the bowls at the front and rear of the ship. Scented black smoke drifts up into the grey sky. The sail is furled as the harbour is exited. Other ships keep their distance.

The grey boat heads out to sea. There the sail is raised, the silver scales of the Grey Lady emblazoned on it. There's not much wind to catch, it flutters more than pulls. The progress is dependent on the rowers. Most of whom, like Aryia, were dock workers looking for a little extra. They have no connection to the Temple, although they row in sombre silence.

A few jokes amongst themselves, followed by a few glares from the old priest, and a slightly raised axe, put them in the mood. No one wants to explain 'just being funny' to the Grey Lady today.

An hour goes by. Alexandria has faded from sight.

Sjach is soon enough put to work, there's a spare bench belowdecks, and he takes it without complaint. He does remove his breastplate, however, as it makes it more difficult to row, leaving him in threadbare burlap shirt that looks as though it has seen better days. He rows well- lean as he may be, his reptilian muscles are well suited to bursts of strength and they serve him as he moves in synch with the other rowers belowdecks.

As they row further out, the mul'neissa of the rowers grows more relaxed. She closes her eyes and pulls back on the oar in tandem with the others. Feeling the beat, the rythm, the rise and fall of the waves. It's clear she's done this many, many times. There was a smirk at a joke, but she kept herself from snickering as she matches the others in pace. Less about strength, more about practice.

Sjach found a spot to row. Aryia found a spot to row. Seyardu found a spot to row, for any who did not have a tail to get in the way. Pushed up against a wall, she struggled to get the large oar rowing, getting more and more uncomfortable as she tried until finally they broke into a bout of coughing, still not one hundred percent, and the awkward movements only aggravating the situation. With a few apologies to those downstairs, they left the belowdecks, heading upstairs to rest against one of the rails of the ship.

The boat is rowed a little further before the Mourner grunts, "Stop Here."

The oars are left to drag, the grey ship slows to a stop, rocking gentle. The sea is calm. It's raining again, drizzle that patters all around. Surrounding the ship with tiny splashes.

The Mourner signals to the Lancers, who take torches and stand beside the pyre. He gives one last look at the Sith'Makar, then nods. They light the fires. He's verbose now, speaking prayers in Yrch. This also takes a little while. He's not in a rush.

The fire spreads across the pyre, burning higher and surrounding the body of the Ner-Sektoth. The oruch looks over, "You have any words?"

Once they are ordered to stop rowing, Sjach stands to stretch his legs. He makes his way over to the corner of the room belowdecks to fetch his breastplate, which he shrugs back on and begins working the buckles at the sides of it. He makes his way up abovedecks, where Seyardu headed some time before, as he does so, to ensure that the silverscale is alright after her earlier coughing fit. Still working on the buckles as he goes. He has no words, and so offers no response to the Oruch.

After being told to halt, Aryia watches the performed rite with a bit of morbid curiosity. These things made no sense to her, or the rituals she had seen in the past were less than respecful for the departed. She ends up pulling her hat further down as the rain starts back, her attention shifting to the waters beyond.

She didn't think the question related to her, until Aryia looks back and gestures a simple, "Goodbye," to the fire. <Handspeech>

"I do have words, but I still do not know if they are correct." The sith'makar replies, sighing for a moment before she put a hand on her chest.

"Though we do know specifics, know that your life was not taken lightly. I hope that your spirit and memories will find peace and rest beneath the shade of the death singing dragons wings, and amongst the spirits of your ancestors. While we return your body to the sea, to where the physical form belongs. While apart, you were still kin in some form, and deserve respect and peace." <Draconic>

They offer in prayer as the stand near the burning body.

"Good," The Old Mourner grunts. A second grunt is a command to work the mechanism.

One of the Lancers turns the crank. The platform beneath the pyre splits in half, the sides lifting up to make a funnel, dropping the charred body and the still burning fuel into the iron coffin. There's an immense shower of sparks drifting upwards.

At the same time, there's a thump at the side of the boat. Followed by a hand. A clawed talon, scaled like a shark. Many hands.

Unexpectedly, an Elf also leaps aboard. Tall, like a Dawn Elf, she has some unusual features. Wider eyes, ears that are pulled more backwards, streamlined. Webbing between her fingers.

Shark teeth, visible when she snarls, "How _dare you! A warrior like he deserves to be accompanied by his kills! You wil join him in the depths."

Suddenly the deck is quite crowded with shark-like lizard folk.

And the rowers are leaping off their benches. Turning to... scramble belowdecks. They weren't hired for this. "C'mon," One of them tells the scarred Mul'niessa, beckoning from the hatchdoor, "This isn't your fight."

That was the command. The Ner'Sektoth warriors rush the people barge, each one wielding a Trident. Two charge up the fore stairs, one stopping to stab at Seyardu, the other continuing the pin the Lancer against the rail while his teammate also thrusts.

The one who came up on the other side, nearer to Sjach and Seyardu, stabs at the Lancer there.

And Aryia finds herself facing one also. A warrior that resembles her Sith'Makar friends in a rough way, with a lot more fins and spines, and wide eyes that seem unsuited to the surface.

Which they just might be, as almost every single one of them misses.

Except on the Mul'niessa. Aryia gets stabbed.

As the Sahaugin begin scaling the sides of the deck, Sjach quickly reaches for his glaive, and he emits another throaty hiss at them. He's not quick enough to fend off the one coming for Seyardu- but thankfully she's able to avoid the hit herself. He strikes back at her, though the swaying of the boat throws off his aim and he brings it down into the decking, cutting a gouge in the wood. He locks eyes with the aquatic creature, the quills running the length of his spine from pate to tail tipe standing on end.

Aryia was merely admiring the view. And she turns to face the pyre. Her brow furrows at the newcomer, her readying to jump forward. But finds a trident digging into her leg. Her nostrils flare as pain shoots up her leg, her pivoting around to yank it free and giving a blind spinning back fist to whoever thought it would be a good idea to stab her.

She keeps the momentum up, twisting up the stairs and punching straight up at the woman's leg, aiming to snap something. To her surprise, it didn't land, the pugilist dropping to the ground to dodge a swipe directed towards her. Aryia grabs at their ankles, attempting to dislodge them from their sure footing but couldn't seem to find a hold.

The silverscale was caught off guard by the group appearing on the deck, and one of the sahuagin already trying to stab at them suddenly. There was only a brief moment where they were able to pull on the shield they had with them.

"Is there not enough death already? We are trying to be understanding and not cause more death." The sith'makar shouts. Perhaps she had hoped it would have given them pause, or that the shield would be enough to cast something, but the trident catches them in the side with a low grunt while they were focusing a prayer. She manages to finish, but her attention is immediately turned to the enemy nearby as the magic takes shape and hold over the crew, filling them with hope for the fight to come.

The Vardamans, bolstered by Seyardu's blessing, turn on the aquatic lizard folk. One drawing and slashing with a falchion in one smooth motion. Lancers are a title, it's more than the weapon they carry. The weapon cuts deeply through scales.

The old Mourner swings his axe, hitting the elf, lightly. Almost as if he's teasing, "Try harder."

The other Lancer isn't as effective, she misses.

The injured saguhain fly into a frenzy. Their blood lust is barely held in check, being injured, smelling blood, it's enough to tip them over. Their thrusts become wild, they snap their necks out and gnash with serrated teeth.

Aryia receives another deep puncture from the trident, her training helping her minimize the wound, but it still hurts. It's still deep.

Sjach is rarely one for words at the best of times, and it seems now the hunt is on. He draws his glaive back after overextending himself to strike at the Sahaugin, and the sahaugin thinks to take advantage of his over-extension. Sjach spins the glaive about, swatting aside the creature's trident with the butt of it, and then using the momentum to bring it in a brutal arc, slicing his aquatic kith from shoulder to hip- a grevious wound, though not quite fatal as the blade of his weapon did not cut deep enough to disembowel the creature, just draw copious blood. Sjach's nostrils flare at the scent of it, eyes wide and pupils dilated.

He takes a step back from the Sahaugin, scaled lips parting to bare his pointed teeth as he hisses a challenge at the creature, taking a step back and whirling the glaive in his hands.

Hearing Seyardu's plea, Aryia gives a huff, her dodging the gnashing teeth and catching the trident with her bare hands. It just barely jabs into her side. Alright. Fine. No death? She can do that. But she was still going beat the reefs out of them.

Teeth bared, she kicks the trident down into the wood and grabs the elf by the shoulders. Her fingers curl into a fist, then splay out into a claw. One palm into the back of the head. Thunk! Another to their spine. Thunk! And another-

Bah, she wasn't that graceful. Aryia ends up grabbing them by the hair and slamming their head into one of the railings, leaving the woman reeling and discombobulated.

The Lancers don't seem to have heard, both swing. although only one connects.

The oruch Mourner grins as his opponent is stunned. He raises his axe. The axe he uses as a can. He needs to steady himself for this swing, so he grabs the nearest support.

The heated metal of the funeral pyre frame.

There's a sizzling noise, he lurches and drops the axe. Growls with resignation, "Wouldn't a been a fair hit anyhow."

The Sahuagin seem undeterred by their elf falling. Whether she matters to them is difficult to discern. The one on Aryia has murder in his eyes, or perhaps a desire to chew on some dark elf meat. His trident thrusts again, draws three parallel cuts on her other thigh. There's a snicker of hissing.

The trio battling the Lancers are less effective, perhaps taller, armoured foes are more challenging.

Though if that was the case, Sjach would be safe. He's not. He's pursued by the fifth one, who has a true sense of security after Seyardu's warhammer misses. He ignores the female. Kill the male. His weapon lands and pierces scales.

They bite, and thrash their necks like sharks, only one hasn't entered a blood fury. Their jaws make little difference.

As the Sahaugin comes at him, Sjach has his back to the other Lancer- the flames are to the side of him. Cornered. Or right where he plans to be. He takes a step forwards, meeting the attacking Sahaugin head on. He twists his body, trying to evade the attack without giving ground- he is only partial successful, and one of its prongs catches him in the flank, sinking deep. His one glaive lunges forwards, coming back up as he steps into the attack, and catches the Sahaugin in the stomach with its tip. He leans into the attack, driving the blade deep inside of the Sahaugins gut, then twists the haft and wrenches the blood-soaked implement of death back out again.

He lifts his head, and gives a bellow of triumph as the sahaugin drops, his spines quivering and making a rattling sound as they brush against one another. He reaches down, grabbing the trident stuck in his side, and yanks it free, tossing it overboard as he turns towards the rest of their assailants.

The trident grazes against her leg again, Aryia gritting her teeth and glaring daggers at the one trying to kill her. Frustrated at her efforts, she spins the staggering elf around by the shoulder and goes for a haymaker to finish it. It falls short, she spins around. And the dark elf throws a blind elbow backwards, knocking the sea elf's lights out. The same motion brought a roundhouse around, a blue boot smashing across the Sahuagin's face and dropping them to the ground.

Aryia huffs, wiping her leg off with a hand and bloodying her fingers. She turns to the others, life ichor dripping off her pant leg but looking fierce as she glares at the rest.

There's only one Sahuagin standing. With a snarl he turns on the female as she runs up. She's met with a three-pronged poke of his trident, which strikes her side. He pulls the weapon back with a flourish, moving to snap at her face.

The butt of the trident spinning through the ash of the pyre, disturbing it, launching an ember right as he opens his maw to bite.

It slides down his throat with a sizzle. Interrupting and making him cough. Needless to say, he doesn't finishing attempting to bite the silverscale.

Sjach sees the nearest opponent drop, and his head sweeps around, scanning the deck for any that yet remain. He spies the one still up- he vaults over the elderly oruch, coming to a stop halfway down the stairs. While he sails through the air, the trident chases his tail, but it whips out of the way at the last moment. He turns on the spot once he lands, and lunges with his glaive- but the angle is awkward, the Sahaugin has the high ground, and he tears a gouge out of the wood of the steps instead of his opponent.

The sea elf hisses in unconsciousness.

Aryia hops up a step, two, three, then grabs onto one of the sea-dwellers by the fins. She yanks from side to side, rocking against the motion of the boat before jamming a foot in the back of the leg to tip them over.

Once they hit the floorboards, she picks them up and smashes them on the ground, kicks them in the side, and then rasies a fist. With her other hand, she points a finger at them, and holds their cocked, bleeding hand back.

The aquatic lizard snarls, his eyes going dark with rage and he readies his weapon. Her offers, refused.

There was barely any place to stand without tripping over a body, but she finds a place to see the oruch that was on the ground. Before she can even begin a prayer, it dies in their throat.

They were not moving, whatsoever, not even the faintest of stirring. "The priest has passed." She says simply.

"Raaah!" One of the Lancers says, moving past the Silverscale, hearing her. Hearing some of the things she said earlier. With grim determination she reverses her blade to take the grounded Sahuagin down.

And she beats him, so hard with the back edge. Matched only in her ferocity by her fellow Lancer, who does the same.

He'll live, unlike the old priest, but he will have cramps and trouble swimming for days. Every large muscle charlie-horsed or burst from it's sheath. Including his tail.

"Well shit." The other Lancer says.

The funeral pyre crackles. Raindrops sizzle as they vanish in the flames. The quiet patter of water is all around.

On the deck, lizardy fish-men.

The door below opens, the other rowers peek out, "is it over?"

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "It's #1 6HP, 8 N-L unconscious, #2 -4 HP stable, #3 -5 HP Stable, #4 7HP 30 N-L Unconscious for days, #5 -5HP Stable (after your spell), Sea Elf -3 HP 14 N-L stable. Orc, Dead. Lancer 1 injured."

There was nothing to be done for the priest for the moment, save for pull them away from the rest that were unconcious. "It is over for now, hopefully for good. I will have wordss with the leader after. I take at least as much of the responsibility as taking us out here, but not for the actions that they chose to take. If anyone needs healing then please let me know." The silverscale says simply as she offers a prayer for the remaining one who was still dying on the deck, staunching the bleeding at the bare minimum. She did not feel like doing more. And she takes rope from her bag, already beginning to tie them up.

The dark elf is annoyed. Very, very annoyed. She looks to the dead priest who set out to help with this endeavor, a tired gaze dragging over each of the sea-folk. It lands on the elf. Aryia grabs them and drags them to the side, haphazardly tossing them against the side of the boat.

She jabs a finger at their unconscious body.

"-'ve g-t t- b- f--k-g k-dd-g -, s-s-? - d-g - k-d - f-k-g f-v-r -d - j-st g-g t- c- -p - -d k-? F-ck -, f-ck - f-sh-s, f-ck - f- -v- tr-g t- d- s-th-g -f- r-ht. -t's th- - p-t -n s- di-s -s. - - d-t I j-st k- -? Th- w-n't ch-g sh-t, -ke - j-st d-d - st-p-d b-tch. F-r f-ck's s-k-!"

She coughs into her hand and rubs her throat, looking throughly pissed.

Sjach scans the deck once more, to make sure the felled Sahaugin do not stand again. He lets out a low, slow hissing rumble through his nostrils as his spines finally relax against his scaled hide. He sweeps his blade one last time, casting some of the blood off it to splatter against the deck, and then hoists it over his back.

"The ner-sektoth are honorless." he says then, eyes dispassionately watching as Seyardu tends to the wounded Sahaugin, before finally coming to rest on the dead Oruch. It is difficult to say it was not his time, but it was still a needlessly violent death. "You ssaught to honor them, and thiss is the payment they give in kind." he says, gesturing towards the priest.

"They will not speak while unconcious, or understand what you are saying. I will wake them up. And I will speak to them." Seyardu says as she steps to where Aryia was with another length of rope to tie up the sea elfs arms and legs. "Celestial mother, please heal the wounds of this one, so they may answer for their actions, and explain themselves." <Draconic>

And they waited in front of them with warhammer in hand, until they were concious enough to listen.

"N- sh-t, S-d-," Aryia hisses towards Seyardu, not happy in the slightest as she crosses her arms and stands behind the sith-makar to keep an eye over the exchange.

The first Lancer listens as Aryia sputters and hisses, comprehending perhaps a third of the words. Her meaning is clear. Blood is slowly soaking into her vestments, making the grey a darker stain. She'll ask the silverscale for healing soon. Not yet.

She hesitates before speaking, lowering her head, although her words are clear. "All come to the Grey Lady, and she embraces all equally, making no favourites. The ceremonies are as much for us, as they are for them."

"It's what he wanted." She sighs, exhaling, helping Seyardu move him to a more dignified position. "He knew there was a risk. He volunteered. Oruchs like to go out fighting. He wasn't going to do anything foolish, but he wasn't going to be that careful if something happened."

"He told us to let him fight, no matter what." The other Lancer says. She's uninjured, "There aren't many opportunities at the Temple, and he was very old." For an Oruch. In his forties.

"We felt it would impair what you wished to do, if this was shared, and you seemed ready for the possibility." The first Lancer fills in.

The sea elf comes round, the healing magic soothing the beating she took, although doing nothing for her mood. She glares angrily at Seyardu, remaining immobile now that she's out-numbered, and glares at her fallen companions.

She blames them. With a sneer she asks, "Well? What is it? You should have killed us when you had the chance or died so you can sink with him."

GAME: Sjach rolls intimidate: (19)+7: 26

Sjach looks to the Lancers, as they explain things, regarding them with stilness and silence, and then as Seyardu works on waking the elf, he takes out his bow, knocking an arrow, though not drawing it back, and watching, carefully. At the sea-elf's words, Sjach just shakes his head. "It iss not too late to kill them." he offers, finally drawing back the arrow and leveling it on the bound ringleader.

"You are not in any position to be speaking as you are. We come out here, because no one can find any information about how to treat your dead due to lack of documentation and willingness to share. So we come out here to do our best to give them funeral rites, and you think the best course of action is to interrupt them and attempt to kill us? You lead a group with you, and if I was less merciful, you would have led five to their death to avenge someone who a group is trying to respect already? The logic of your actions is nearly impossible for me to comprehend. I do not get it, truly. You do not stop to speak when a group is very clearly trying to understand what you do not even begin to explain. So please tell me, so you do not throw lives away stupidly again like this. How do you treat your dead?" She explains at eye level with the elf, coldly.

Aryia eyes the bow, but doesn't make a move to stop it. She's frowning, still slowly bleeding on her leg and side. Picking up one of the sea-people with a singular arm and moving to toss them overboard.

The sea elf glares. At Aryia, looking tough, at Sjach, whom she looks away from rather quickly. To stare at Seyardu as she speaks. More angry glances are shot towards the Lancers, and the unconscious with her.

The ones that were cut and bleeding get a much longer stare. Finally she steels herself and looks back at Sjach, "You can kill the three that bled. They're weak."

She faces Seyardu, "Listen to him. He's dangerous. That makes him a good leader."

Her expression doesn't really soften. She's not very elfin at all, and her attitude is overflowing. She looks around the barge, "Oh that's what this was meant to be."

"Fine. To answer your questions. The strong and powerful are honoured by the corpses they take with them. They aren't burned. They aren't put in a box. They're given a last meal of stone fish, so they will dive fast."

"All their teeth are pulled, so if they come back from the dead they will be a toothless disgrace. These are kept by warriors that respected them. Their names and deeds are carved on bracelets fastened around wrists and ankles, so they will be known."

"Their kills are likewise weighted to dive with them, then they are dropped over the deepest parts to swim down to the sunless depths, contesting the creatures of the dark until the First Leviathan takes them to her belly."

She shoots another look at Sjach and the bodies around her, "If they're worthy. Otherwise they're food for sharks."

"We are all food for ssomething." Sjach says, simply. His bowstring still taut, his eyes fixed on the sea elf as she speaks her piece. He looses the arrow rather without warning, and it strikes the wood of the railing next to her head. Close enough that she'll feel it graze her cheek, not close enough to remove an ear or give her an extra wide smile. Sjach then turns away from the others, "Thiss one returns belowdecks. Call if there are more attackss..." he says, and then pads away from the group towards where the rowers are huddled away.

"The onese who are not bleeding are not better than the others." The silverscale states bluntly as she continues and lingers. "The only reason they are in better shape is due to the one here with me taking pity on them as well. And If I am not mistaken, you were the first to be knocked out. The fact that the gap in skill was so pronounced that they were knocked out is worse. But you should not think the worst of others without even attempting to speak."

They spoke in draconic, finding it much easier to speak freely and get their point across. "We have no stone fish, but the sarcophagus is a stone fish which will swallow them. We will extinguish the fire. Give you the teeth. And be on our way. I was hoping to gain a better understanding of your people, but this is twice you have decided to answer with violence before anything else."

Aryia just spits on the floor at hearing the explanation. She was right, literally just dump them overboard. And everyone talking with her half understanding was just making the dark elf frustrated, feeling like all of this was a waste of time and life.

She unceremoniously tosses the unconscious body overboard and makes for the next one. Mixed trail of blood following her all the way.

"Kill me or throw me overboard, but do not mock my weakness and pretend you are doing me a kindness." The sea elf snaps back at Seyardu, also in draconic.

A draconic that seems to be missing some of the words and phrases for community, and is always conjugated in a way that indicates who is subordinate and who is dominant. She gets a curious blank stare at words that suggest equality.

Mercy may be a word she literally doesn't understand, thus she listens to Seyardu, both comprehending and not the meaning of her phrases, and her true intentions.

"Violence is always first to establish who will obey." The sea-elf smiles with shark teeth. "Do what you're going to do. I'm powerless to stop you. You should have killed me when you had the chance."

"I am not mocking you. But you should look inward some time before jumping to the others deserving death." They say before turning to the pyre. A hand reaches into the blaze near their skull, and a few movements snap most of the teet of the smoldering body. They are waved out, and put in a bag that is slung unceremoniously around the elf's neck. before she finished the contraption, sending the stone container to the bottom of the sea with any luck.

"Do not attack boats coming out here so readily next time. Some are simply trying to understand better." She says, carrying them to the rail and setting them down on it unceremoniously. the rope around their legs undone, before being shoved overboard.

"Let us leave this place then." They say, addressing the rowers still in the boat. Seyardu didn't want their tiredness to be too apparent again, so they went about, tending to everyone's wounds as quickly as possible.

Aryia didn't understand what they were going back and forth about, but she went about the deck, throwing the rest of the offending sahuagin overboard. The one she went toe to toe with gets a loving punch in the unconscious face before tossing them overboard and 'accidently' knocks their head against the side. "F-ck -ff!" she snarls over the edge before storming down stairs to get ready to sail back to port.

The grey ship turns back, sails back, still carrying a corpse. A different one, who gladly died in service to his mistress of ash and Feiu of the Tears.
