  • Title: Elementary
  • Emitter: Zyla
  • Characters: Hun'rar 3, Arisha 3, Jokul 3, Leonis 2
  • Place: Mountains outside Alexandria
  • Time: Mar 20, 2016
  • Summary: Hired by the Guild of Adventurers, to look into strange lightning strike.
  • APL: 3
  • Encounter 1: 2 CR 3 Small Lightning Elementals, CR 5 Encounter

You all were gathered by the Guild. They had someone who hired them for a mission and you were the first names that came up as being available. The mission involves going into the mountains outside of Alexandria so a location given by directions. Apparently a strange lightning strike happened the day before and you are to investigate the area. After getting the directions you set out. The location given is about an hour further into the mountains from where you are.

Hun'rar is all grins, his first proepr mission witht eh guild sicne he arrived in town and its in his favorite place! Out in nature! Despite the heavy armor and shield he seems to be enjoying himself immensely. "I am sure the lightning strike is some kind of smiting from Dana or similar, nothing to be too worried about. If she smites someone, they deserved it." he notes happily. "Don't you just love the outdoors?!

Leonis shrugs indifferently as he keeps pace. "It's the outdoors. It's not good or bad." he reasons. "The lightning could of been a lot of things." changing topic as he lets out a sigh and stretches. "I don't like to guess until I have some facts though."

Following the trail given, Arisha is out in the woods again. Her main way to find where the lightning struck has been using her nose. No mistaking where it could've hit once you catch the scent of charcoal. "We'll have our facts soon enough guys."

"There's always the one sure way to find out," chimes Jokul from his spot in the very rear of the group -- he's not much of a tracker, and with the amount of heavy hitting power already presenst otherwise, he apparently decided to volunteer himself to keep watch from the six. Prowling along to follow the others, casually enough in spite of the heavy armor and sword alike.

It is pretty quiet as you all head along the trail, you are easily able to find the directions to where you are going. Shouldn't be much longer.

Hun'rar grins "Well we will see indeed, perhaps someone pissed a druid off and they invoked the wrath of Dana. Either way! We are hunting and in doing so are blessed by the Great Hunting Dragon Gilead! For clues that is, not all hunting involves killing afterall." he adds to be perfectly clear.

Leonis raises a brow, following towards the destination he disturbance supposedly came form. He refrains from talking, and just keeps to himself with his thoughts.

Also mostly quiet, Arisha looks about for where the disturbance came from. "We're almost there I believe, We'll have to keep quiet for the time being." She says coming up the ridge....

"...And if it's something other than Dana...?" Jokul wonders out loud after Hun'rar's speculations, though he doesn't really raise his voice enough that he might actually be heard properly. He just seems bemused, mostly.

Hun'rar shrugs "Or some other God out to smite folks, just be glad if your not one of the right now!" he says with a smile. "This is why we are hunting no? To find our for sure what it was?"

You are pretty sure that you are getting close now, and there is litte sounds around here. There looks to be a few burned trees, maybe the lightning caused a small fire.

Arisha looks about at the burned trees. "More than likely scared off by the lightning." She says softly as she looks about......"Anyone see anything?"

Hun'rar starts looking around the area, moving some twigs and so forth with his foot for clues "Dunno, looks like fire and probobly from lightning."

Leonis moves to look about, taking in the scene and trying to find what looks like the epicenter of this small charred out bit of woods. "It could of been, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. The strike should of happened near by.

"If it was going to be that simple..." Jokul mutters - as if though gods smiting things should be considered 'simple - while he pads along the clearing slowly, in a self-imposed perimeter of sorts. "...You think we would have been paid to come up here to check it out in the first place?"

There is crackling from nearby, but can't exactly pin it down at the moment. You paged Arisha with 'its coming from the other side of a big rock formation, probably a bit of a clearing.'

Arisha waves for everyone to follow her. "This way." She says as she starts around a rock clearing....and she draws her pistol.

Leonis notices Arisha touch her weapon, his mace taken from it's ring, and moving to follow Arisha as she starts to circle. He follows, trying to be quiet, and stay out of sight of eyes that might peek at them while they creep.

Leonis pages: Would you like Stealth? You paged Leonis with 'if you are trying to be sneaky yes.'

Hun'rar dons his helmet and readies his sword and shield "Right, perhaps a pissed druid... be warry of racoons." he notes as he follows Arisha.

GAME: Leonis rolls stealth: (20)+6: 26

"...Why raccoons?" Jokul asks of Hun'rar wit another brief, bemused glance sent the man's way. The thought of raccons themselves doesn't really seem to really discourage him all that much, seeing as he's following along into ARisha's general direction. Very much un-stealthily at that, mind you.

As you come around the formation you see...two storm clouds. Only these stormclouds are in the shape of wolves or something like that. They are dark and ominous but definitely clouds. Where one would expect eyes are flashes of lightning and lightning crackles along their legs. They are also hovering off the ground about 5'.

<OOC> Arisha says, "What knowledge do I roll to know what these things are?" <OOC> Hun'rar has religion or arcana to throw at it? <OOC> Leonis has religion, Arcana, and Nature. <OOC> Zyla says, "hmm...arcana or religion at penalty, the planes at full." You paged (Arisha, Leonis) with 'elementals, air...maybe something else.'

Arisha peeks around the corner quickly, then ducks back. "You have got to be kidding me." She groans as she pulls her hood back. "Air Elementals. There's something else there, but I don't recognize it.

Leonis nods from where he's hidden. His hand raises in agreement. He can distinguish the elementals, but the other thing is a mystery. He doesn't talk, but he does begin to prepare his gear, looking to the others.

"Elementals," Jokul repeats with a click of his tongue made against the roof of his mouth, in an audible, vaguely annoyed sound. "Do they still get cut by iron, or do we need to come up with something creative?"

Hun'rar holds his shield up and keeps his sword at the ready position. "Creatures of lightning... perhaps we could speak to them? Ask them what is happening?" the heavily armored knight offers as a suggestion.

Arisha gestures towards Hun'rar. "Give it a try. I'm not trying diplomacy again." She then chuckles. "Jokul, keep close....and please don't say anything unless someoe attacks.

Leonis raises a brow, nodding. "Could always let me talk to them. It works sometimes. Other times things try to kill me. So fifty-fifty?" he whispers finally. "Though, we don't know why they are still here. Why haven't they moved since they came here?"

There is more crackling going on, if you peek they are floating into things and zapping them.

Hun'rar shuffles his feet a bit but slowly takes a few steps towards the elementals. "Alrighy Hun, nothing for it..." clearing his throat he speaks up. "Creatures of the storm! I insist you cease destroying the countryside! In the name of the Great Hunting Dragon Gilead, return to your home!" he says quite loudly.

The two creatures turn more to face them and crackle more.

"...Aaaand negotiations break down!" Declares Jokul right before he leaps past Arisha, after the two elementals bearing down on Hun'rar -- coming back down on the ground with a heavy enough downward swing of his sword that one might think that he's carried down by it's weight instead of that of his own. The sword itself goes through the being of lightning with almost no resistance, which leaves the Aesir a little surprised, and looking back up at the floating entity -- flickering as it might be. "...Did that work?"

<OOC> Arisha is gonna try to shoow the wounded one. <OOC> Arisha says, "Shoot that is."

Hun'rar shakes off the shock he recieved and returns the strike he took with a powerfull overhand slash from his bastard sword. "This is easier than talking, I must admit. Nuance can be tricky." the paladin responds.

Leonis comes out of the shadows, moving behind the injured elemental. His swift swing connects with the elemental, the head of which permeates the body, and causes the form to disperse in to near nothingness as his foe falls. "I always disliked resorting to violence. It's a shame."

The remaining storm wolf goes after Hun'rar again but misses.

"Not everything and everyone in this world listens to reason!" Jokul yells as more of an aside to Leonis -- his attention has mostly set itself upon the remaining elemental of a wolf. "Oy, oy! You forget about the rest of us?!" The nearly-challenging growl is followed by him bounding across the ground and effectively *shoving* his massive slab of a sword into the mass of elemental electricity in what was, perhaps, meant to come across as a stabbing motion.

Hun'rar shifts to a flanking position and slashes crossways at his opponent but misses with his strike. "Unfortunate but the easier option."

     Round Three - Init 12.
It is now Jokul's turn! Hun'rar is next!

Leonis moves to the next target, his fighting style filled with grace, as his mace is not used as a club, but an extension of his arm as he swipes the standing elemental with a light blow. "This is not what I expected."

<OOC> Jokul says, "Power attaaaaack!"

The elemental seems focused on Hun'rar and its attack glances off Hun'rar's armor, almost hitting again.

"HEY!" Jokul growls after the elemental -- and he actually sounds somewhat *offended*. "What did I..." He continues, with a spinning motion carrying his sword from the earlier attack into further momentum, up from the ground and swiping the wide blade through the now-dissipating entity from below. "...Just say?!"

With the elemental fading from existence after that blow, Jokul lets his other hand go from the sword while it's still in rebounding motion, and allows it's weight to carry it down to getting stabbed into the ground. "...Seriously, just keep trying to bite the one and same guy over and over..." He mutters, before his gaze finds Hun'rar, dubiously. "Did they not like your dragon friend? Is that it?"

Leonis shrugs. "Not friendly, not friendly at all." his glance going elsewhere as he looks about the scene. "I wonder if there is a reason, or anything to let us know why they are here."

Arisha shrugs and puts her pistol away. "Well....I'm glad I didn't hit anyone else. Everyone okay?"

Hun'rar shakes his head, returning his sword to his scabbard. "Litle beat up, that shock was pretty nasty." he comments as he cracks his knuckles.

THe two creatures seemed to have been lightning elementals now, and maybe had something to do with the lightning. A search shows signs of a ritual, maybe someone summoned them.

Hun'rar looks around and shrugs "Dunno, seems like the wrath of Dana. Perhaps someone in the vicinty offender her?" the paladin proposes as a solution. "She can be scary like that, unlike the Great Hutning Dragon Gilead!"

Leaning over at the ritual place, Arisha seems to find something and follows it.....and looks at it leads back to Alexandria. "I have a feeling we're not going to see the last of this guy." She says softly. "Keep your ears open for more rituals.

"You don't think it's related to the blizzard-breathing wolf from the other day, do you?" Jokul asks of Arisha, suddenly. "I mean, it probably isn't, but still. The last one might not have been an elemental, but that's still two cases of wolf-like things with an affinity to an element..."

Leonis moves to help track and see what he can find in this mess of char. "Nope, because it's not like those elementals were just on vacation." he chimes, sighing as his mace returns to the ring on his belt.

And with that you make sure nothing else is burning in the area and then report back. You are paid and told they were elementals after you give a report, and that the type of elemental likes to take shapes of animals and things and are always agressive. Just another day in the Guild.
